GREMLIN GIRL (SHORT)

FADE IN:

EXT. SCHOOL - DAY

Kids walk to class as the bell rings.

INT. BASHIEL'S CLASSROOM - DAY

                       BASHIEL
Give me that! Another poem?

Rayne does not respond and only looks away muttering stuff
such as "Whatever" and "Who really cares?" Then she looks at
the empty desk next to her.

                       BASHIEL
Grey, more of a shade, but yet a
color, nonetheless. It is a
mischievious color. Hidden, but
not yet malevolent. Like a shadow,
but incomplete. Almost a void,
still ununique. Blank. A turned
off screen, still not black. Grey
isn't innocence, it isn't
corruption. Grey is the world.
Birth is white, death is black.
Everything else but grey. Through
color blind eyes, through untold
lies. Grey is a color that in
inbetween everything.

Rayne shrugs as the bell rings. Mrs. Bashiel plants a
detention on Rayne's desk and hands her a pen. She signs her
name and then Rayne grabs her book bag and walks out.

                       STUDENT(S)
Gremlin girl! Go home! Freak!

INT. LUNCHROOM - DAY

Rayne sits at her regular spot for lunch. Alone at a lunch
table with kids laughing nearby. Rayne pulls out a paper bag
filled with a sandwich and chips. She begins her "feast".
The camera changes to just the sandwich. Then it goes back
to Rayne as a boy is now sitting next to her. Noticing, she
turns and looks at the boy.

2.

                       LEON
I liked your poem.

Rayne looked up to the boy.

                       RAYNE
What are you talking about? Are
you even in my class?

                       LEON
I sit right next to you.

Rayne thinks about it and flashes back to class. She doesn't
exactly know what she was looking for. Then she looks at the
"empty" desk and see's the boy.

                       RAYNE
Oh yeah! I never noticed you. I'm
Rayne.

                       LEON
I know. You're getting in trouble.
Bashiel doesn't underdtand. I'm
known as Leon.

                       RAYNE
Wow, and, thank you. Do you write
any poetry?

                       LEON
Yeah, a little. I'm no where near
as talented as you, although.

                       RAYNE
Thank you. I'd like to hear some
of your poetry. You must be really
good!

                       LEON
So, do you write a lot?

                       RAYNE
Yeah, kinda.

Rayne finishes her lunch as the bell rings for class. They
exchange information such as phone numbers and e-mail
adresses and leave for class.

EXT. ALISO NIGUEL - DAY

Rayne walks out of a class.

3.

                       RAYNE
No. Not Bashiel again..

Rayne walks past a few halls and gets to Bashiel's class,
and slowly walks in.

INT. BASHIEL'S CLASSROOM - DAY

                       BASHIEL
Your homework for tonight is to
read chapter seven.

Mr. Bashiel holds up To Kill a Mockingbird.

EXT. ALISO NIGUEL - DAY

Rayne turns to Leon and just jumps him a hug.

                       LEON
Umm, I kind of really like you.
Um, would you like to be my
girlfriend.

                       RAYNE
Yes, yes I would.

Leon turns to Rayne and smiles.

INT. BASHIEL'S CLASSROOM - DAY

                       BASHIEL
Why does Nathan Radley fill the
hole in the tree with cement?

Rayne raises her hand.

                       BASHIEL
Yes, Rayne?

                       RAYNE
So that "Boo" can't communicate in
anyway with anyone outside the
house.

                       BASHIEL
Correct. But, if it doesn't bother
in anyway Jem, why does he begin
to cry.

4.

                       RAYNE
      (Without direction)
Because he hates how Nathan Radley
is not allowing anyway of
contacting the two children. Even
if he wasn't giving them presents,
but instead paper with words, it
would have been no different. But,
Boo chose the presents so it would
catch their eye rather than paper.
Also, he may not even know how to
write anymore, being alone inside
everyday. Jem doesn't want Boo to
be a freak, Jem wants Boo to be
allowed more freedom.

                       BASHIEL
      (Surprised)
You did some reading.

Rayne turns to Leon.

                       RAYNE
A little.

The bell rings signifying the end of class. Rayne packs up
her stuff.

                       BASHIEL
Rayne, come here a minute.

Rayne walks to her teacher.

                       RAYNE
Yes?

                       BASHIEL
You are very intelligent. Why
don't you use that for the better.
You're getting in trouble so
often, you make yourself seem like
such a bad student. Why do you
give yourself such a bad fame?

                       RAYNE
I only write when it comes to me.
I don't care what time it is, or
where I write it. If it comes, it
comes. I need that time as much as
possible.

                       BASHIEL
You are dismissed.

to the bathroom.

Leon gets up, and walks away.

Rayne looks to her lunch.

                       STUDENT(S)

Hello?

                       LEON
Rayne! You have to come over, now!

                       RAYNE
What is it?

                       LEON
Rayne, you seriously have to come.

EXT. EMPTY STREET - NIGHT

Rayne walks to Leon. He is standing alone. She walks to him.
He turns to her.

                       LEON
I'm sorry. Had to see you one last
time. Good-bye.

Leon runs off through the gate. Rayne follows him. Once she
gets to the gate, she stands there. She looks around. Then
she trips.

INT. RAYNE'S ROOM - DAY

                       STUDENT(S)
