RATED

A painfully average young man that struggles to deal with the maturity and settling down of life. The protagonist, Jimmy Stewart works as a cubical rat in a small accounting firm. He is forced to take mandatory counselor meetings as an office policy. Jimmy thrives towards the therapy providing a hope for himself to discover the true meaning of his life and depression. Simply, it is a story of a man's search for self actualization and obtaining a normal life that he has yet to have received; while grueling with the misfortunes life has thrown at him.

FADE IN:

INT. GUIDANCE OFFICE - DAY

A young man walks into a well furnished counselor office. He
is lanky and skinny. He has a hint of a balding hair line
and is slightly unshaven. His name is JIMMY STEWART. He sits
down in a musky leather chair across a man who is a guidance
counselor.

                       COUNSELOR
Thanks for coming, Mr.Stewart.

                       JIMMY
Thanks for having me.

Jimmy slightly turns in view of the door. The name reads
BILL MURKOVICH, with PSYCH. COUNSELOR printed neatly
underneath it. Bill, the counselor, is a stocky, elderly man
with glasses.

                       JIMMY
Are you a doctor?

                       COUNSELOR
There's no MD's on my wall.
(smiles)
You can just call me Bill.

                       JIMMY
Okay.

Bill seems to be flipping through pages of a file.

                       BILL
I've been reading over your file
and to be honest it's really quite
interesting.

                       JIMMY
Thank you, I'm not sure if i'm
supposed to be proud of that.

                       BILL
The one thing that really struck
me is when you were asked where
did you see yourself in the
future.

Jimmy tightens up in his chair.

                       BILL (cont.)
You answered.
(stares back down at file)
If I knew that I wouldn't be here
in the first place.

They both fall silent. Bill chuckles.

                       BILL (cont.)
You have a good sense of humour.
Do you know that, Jimmy?

2.

                       JIMMY
Well, I never really meant for it
to be a joke.

                       BILL
So, in all honesty you have no
idea what your going to do with
the rest of your life?

                       JIMMY
I mean that's why i'm here.
Lately, that's all i've been
worrying about.

                       BILL
Who says you have to know in this
stage of your life?

                       JIMMY
It really hadn't entered my mind
until about my fifth grade
graduation. Our principal told
us...

INT. AUDITORIUM - 1986 - DAY

We notice a formally adorned auditorium swarming with
parents and teachers taking photographs with large 80's
vintage cameras. We notice CLASS OF 86'and a row of children
dressed in robes and caps. Young Jimmy Stewart, sits
absolutely quiet as he stares at the tall, fat principal
that stands over the children at the podium.

                       PRINCIPAL
Today is the day of the rest of
your lives. You're either going to
suceed or become a failure. I
know, you think, that the world
is full of options, but America
wasn't built on options. You
better know what you want to do
because before you know it, you're
thirty, and all you're potential
you thought you had is gone.
(pause)
Welcome, to the disease I call
maturity. It will slowly eat at
you until your nothing. Good luck.

We notice young Jimmy's face flush as the rest of the kids
giggle to themselves.

                       JIMMY (vo)
I think that kind've scarred me
for life.

INT. GUIDANCE OFFICE - DAY

                       BILL
How old are you? You don't seem
old enough to be having a mid-life
crisis.

3.

                       JIMMY
I'm thirty years old.

                       BILL
Do you work right now?

                       JIMMY
Yeah, I work up at the the new
Micro precision. You've probably
never heard of it. Nobody's ever
heard of it.

                       BILL
Well, there's a start.

                       JIMMY
I don't consider that quite a
future.
(shuffles closer to Bill)
See, I hate my job and I hate
everyone that works there. I'm
pretty sure my position is
completely useless.

                       BILL
Why don't you get out?

                       JIMMY
That's where I think the problem
is. I wouldn't know where to go
from there. I'm kind've at a
standstill right now. I have been
for the past ten years.

                       BILL
What does your family think about
that?

                       JIMMY
My family?

                       BILL
Yes, your family.

                       JIMMY
That's kind've a soar subject.

                       BILL
Well, I thought I should get to
know you first before I start to
make judgments about your life.

Jimmy takes a deep breath and exhales slowly.

                       JIMMY
Well, I have a mother who as far
back as I could remember was
always ill. Until, I was about the
age of sixteen she was diagnosed
with pulmonary fibrosis. Shes
probably not going to live for
long.

4.

                       BILL
I'm sorry and the relationship
with your mother?

                       JIMMY
Lacking, to say the least.

Bill writes a few things in his file.

                       BILL
I assume you are closer with your
father?

                       JIMMY
No, I don't know anything about
him. He was shipped to Vietnam
before I was born.
(stares away from Bill)
According to my mother he died
honorably.

                       BILL
Oh, how so?

                       JIMMY
He was run over by a tank.

                       BILL
I see.

Bill marks a few things on the report and it becomes silent.
He looks up at Jimmy.

                       BILL (cont.)
So, you were the only child?

                       JIMMY
Oh, no. I have a brother. His name
is Frank.

                       BILL
And what does Frank do?

                       JIMMY
Well, in his own way. He's an
artist.

                       BILL
Artist? Paint or Abstract?

                       JIMMY
Scam.

                       BILL
He's a scam artist?

                       JIMMY
Well, I guess he considers it an
art.

5.

                       BILL
Could I speak off the record,
Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
Yes, please.

                       BILL
I'm a personal counselor. I'm not
here to rearrange your life. I'm
getting paid to make sure you
don't kill yourself. And yeah i've
worked with alot of nutcases and
to be honest your kind've messed
up too.

Jimmy is surprised.

                       BILL (cont.)
You clearly have many indirect
issues that you have to take care
of first before you can even begin
to dictate the rest of your life.

Jimmy slumps in his chair.

                       BILL (cont.)
That's okay, though. I guess
that's why your really here isn't
it?

Jimmy becomes silent as he stares at a brilliant ink
menagerie, with a moving ferris wheel which seems to
distribute ink blobs within it.

INT. BUS - DAY

Jimmy is quietly sitting on the bus gazing out the window.
People are coming and going. Jimmy notices a gothic girl
near an outside bus-stop and he begins to stare at her for a
moment. They connect gazes. Suddenly, she gives Jimmy a
middle finger. Jimmy turns away.

INT. JIMMY'S APARTMENT - DAY

Jimmy walks down the hallway and drops a few things, but
crouches down slowly and picks them back up. Jimmy goes to
unlock his door when he notices that it is unlocked already.
Jimmy slowly enters the apartment and notices that it is
quite messy.

                       JIMMY
Hello?

As Jimmy quietly moves around his apartment. He hears a few
noises from the next room. Jimmy walks towards the next room
and enters. We notice Jimmy's brother FRANK STEWART. He is
bigger than Jimmy, with dark short hair and a five o'clock
shadow. He is slightly out of shape.

Frank, dressed in only a dress shirt and underwear, seems to

be punching randomly in the air while large music earphones
are strapped against his ears.

                       JIMMY
Frank?

Frank continues unable to hear Jimmy. Frank turns and
notices Jimmy. Abruptly. in FEAR. Frank throws his earphones
off his ears.

                       FRANK
Oh man!
(deep breath)
I thought you were a ghost.

                       JIMMY
What are you doing?

                       FRANK
You like what you saw, didn't you.
(throws a few punches in the air)
They call that jiu jitsu bitch.

Jimmy nods his head.

                       JIMMY
That's good to know that you were
productive today.

Jimmy walks out of Franks room to the family room. He
notices that it is absolutely filthy. Frank follows Jimmy
from behind.

                       FRANK
How was work?

                       JIMMY
It's sunday, Frank.

                       FRANK
Really?
(flips through calender on wall)
Why did I think it was Wednesday?

Frank sits on the couch and turns the television on.

                       JIMMY
Did I miss the memo on how were
not locking our doors in the
middle of day now?
(pause)
I'm not sure if you knew, but the
rate of burgluary/kidnapping has
gone up in the last year.

                       FRANK
      (laughingly)
Listen here señor safety. When was
the last time you heard of a
thirty year old balding man being
kidnapped?

7.

Jimmy begins to look through the mail. As Frank chuckles at
the cartoons on t.v.

                       JIMMY
In case you were looking for a
job. Taco Villa, is hiring for the
fall season. You should hand in a
resume.

                       FRANK
I tried Taco Villa last year. I
wanted to negotiate a reasonable
contract, but apparently i'm not
worth more then miniumum wage. I
mean, I almost got a broker's
license. I could've done great
things there.
(laughs)
So, let's just say I've been
working on a few things.

                       JIMMY
What kind've things?

                       FRANK
      (hesitantly and
       ad-libbed)
Don't you worry about, Frank.
Frank's making moves.

                       JIMMY
Is it legal?

                       FRANK
It is, if my parol officer doesn't
hear about it.

Frank begins to walk to the kitchen.

                       JIMMY
Evidently, you've barely
accumulated a net worth of three
hundred dollars.

                       FRANK
      (turns to Jimmy)
I'm taking care of that.

                       JIMMY
Robbing blind people?

Frank enters the kitchen.

                       FRANK (os)
What kind've low life do you think
I am?
(pause)
Fake pention benefits, whole
different system.

                       JIMMY
Do you plan on cheating the system
forever, Frank?

8.

                       FRANK (os)
It's crossed my mind.

INT. JIMMY'S KITCHEN/BALCONY - DAY

Jimmy walks into the kitchen and opens the fridge. He
notices that it's completely empty. Suddenly, a loud BANG is
heard at the balcony window. A LARGE SNOW cluster is
plastered over the window. Jimmy, goes onto the balcony.

Jimmy, stares down the balcony and notices DANIELLE DONAHUE
standing below in the parking lot. She is Jimmy's best
friend. She is a pretty girl with rosey red cheeks and hair
of brownish-hazelnut color. Danielle is wearing a large
winter coat and a beanie hat tightly mounted on her head,
with large ear flaps. She softly waves to Jimmy as she
smiles.

                       JIMMY
It's fall, where did you get the
snowball?

                       DANIELLE
Manifested it from my mind.
(chuckles)
I collected it from the freezer.
It took me a while to get it to
the right size.

                       JIMMY
Was it worth it?

                       DANIELLE
Well, from an areodynamic point of
view the flight was a little off,
but it got your attention.

Jimmy slightly chuckles.

                       JIMMY
Did you want me to come down?

                       DANIELLE
I was getting bored just sitting
by myself on a bench.

Danielle smiles.

                       JIMMY
Alright.

EXT. PARK - DAY

Jimmy is leaving his apartment building and begins to walk
towards the busy street. Across the street we notice
Danielle sitting at a nearby bench feeding bread to the
birds. Jimmy, finally walks across the street and sits next
to Danielle.

9.

                       JIMMY
Is all you do, all day, is wander
the park and wait for me to come
home?

                       DANIELLE
It happens to be a hobbie of mine.

Danielle begins to hand little pieces of bread to a group of
birds near her bench.

                       JIMMY
What did the adventures of
Danielle toll today?

                       DANIELLE
Well, I woke up this morning and
for some odd, off-beat reason I
went to an art museum. I don't
know why to be honest. I never
really had a flare for the arts. I
enjoy those mornings of
spontaneous creativity. I was
really blown away by Mexican
printmaking.
(quickly smirks)
I came here to feed the birds and
now i'm here with you.

                       JIMMY
Is that all?

                       DANIELLE
      (sarcastically)
Oh, how could I've forgotten? I
travelled to the center of the
earth too.

Jimmy stares at Danielle.

                       DANIELLE
It wasn't that great. The outside
is much better.

                       JIMMY
I have to go myself, sometime.

                       DANIELLE
I'll show you around.

Danielle chuckles to herself.

                       JIMMY
I saw my counselor today.

                       DANIELLE
Your seeing a counselor?

                       JIMMY
It's cheaper than a psychiatrist.

10.

                       DANIELLE
What's it like? Do you lay on some
couch and talk about how weird you
are?

                       JIMMY
No, I don't lay on a couch.

                       DANIELLE
But you're weird, right?

                       JIMMY
No, not really.
(sighs)
It's office policy. We have to
visit a guidance counselor for
twenty-five hours every term.
Apparently, they think it will
make us happier individuals,
within society.

                       DANIELLE
Well, is there something wrong?

                       JIMMY
I don't know. Maybe nothing. I
have a strong suspicsion to
believe there might be, though.

                       DANIELLE
You're probably crazy.

                       JIMMY
I guess that explains why I'm
going.

Danielle throws her last pieces to the birds and stands up,
while Jimmy stands next to her. We see a smaller bird
salvaging small crumbs that have been eaten by the larger
birds.

Suddenly, Danielle crouches down and takes a larger piece of
bread from her pocket. Danielle feeds it to the small bird.
Danielle stands up next to Jimmy. The forest is riddled with
fog.

                       DANIELLE
You know what they say about fog?

Jimmy stares at Danielle.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
It's the clouds that got sick of
the sky, so they let go and fell
down back to the earth.

Jimmy and Danielle share a small smirk.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
If only we were clouds.

Jimmy and Danielle continue down the path as they disappear
into the fog.

11.

INT. GROCERY STORE - DAY

The local grocery store is quite small and conists of a few
isles. Jimmy and Danielle both stand staring at a wall
ornamented with neat, well drawn pictures. Pictures of
rainbows, heavy tides and young children. An YOUNG ASIAN
GIRL sits quietly next to them, jaunting her legs across the
chair.

                       JIMMY
You drew these?

                       YOUNG ASIAN GIRL
Yes, two dollars for one.

Danielle points to a picture which depicts a small boy and
a small girl purched up on a bench resting their heads
against each other. Jimmy and Danielle stare at the picture.

                       DANIELLE
I like that one.

                       JIMMY
      (hesitantly)
I wonder what they see in us. Lost
expectations?
(pause)
I like it too.

Danielle hands two dollars to the nodding child. Danielle
grabs the picture from the wall, folds it an places it
within her pocket. They continue down the isles.

                       DANIELLE
Have you seen you're mother in the
hospital, lately?

                       JIMMY
I was going to today. It's just
kind've hard for me to go.

                       DANIELLE
Just take the twenty-four bus.
What's the problem?

                       JIMMY
It's difficult to go visit and
take care of someone that wishes
they were dead.

                       DANIELLE
She'll be okay. You know, she's
strong.

                       JIMMY
She's a travesty.

                       DANIELLE
I know that she hates me, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
She always has.

12.

Danielle smiles and places a few things in the basket. Jimmy
notices and becomes cofused.

                       JIMMY
Why do you do that?

                       DANIELLE
Do what?

                       JIMMY
You've just came to the decision
that a human being who, happens to
be my mother, hates everything
about you and all you choose to do
is smile. All the time.

                       DANIELLE
I find it clouds my judgement.
It's a simple side-effect to
avoiding how I feel.

                       JIMMY
Maybe you should feel.

                       DANIELLE
That's much too practical.

Jimmy seems to frown as he stares at a can of soup.

                       DANIELLE
Look at you?

                       JIMMY
What?

Danielle begins to frown like Jimmy to mock him.

                       DANIELLE
Your completely invisible. A blank
expression of human existance.

Danielle places her hands on Jimmy's face forcing a fake
smile.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
Why are you incapable of smiling?

                       JIMMY
There's probably some sort of
medication for that, but it
wouldn't work for me anyways.

                       DANIELLE
Why not?

                       JIMMY
I might look like everyone else,
but i'm really not human at all.
I'm actually a drone.

Danielle slightly chuckles.

13.

                       DANIELLE
A drone?

                       JIMMY
That's right. I wasn't built for
emotions. It's not an objective of
mine. I wasn't meant to be
assertive.

                       DANIELLE
Can you keep a secret?

Jimmy nods to Danielle.

                       DANIELLE
Were all drones.

Jimmy and Danielle both smirk at one another. Jimmy grabs a
few of his favoured items and throws them in the basket.

cut to: Jimmy and Danielle are standing in the line to pay
for groceries. They all stand in silence staring at a child
who rides quietly on a pulsing mechanical pig.

INT. JIMMY'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Jimmy and Danielle enter the apartment with grocery bags and
place them at the side door. Suddenly, Jimmy and Danielle
notice a young woman sitting on the edge of the couch taking
a large hit from a bong that sits on the coffee table. She
seems dazed and high. She has blonde hair, with a pink
streak receding hairline from the roots. Her name is KRISTA.
She smiles as Jimmy and Danielle stare quietly confused.

                       KRISTA
Hi!

                       DANIELLE
Hi, I'm Danielle.

Danielle and Krista shake hands.

                       KRISTA
Danielle? That's a nice name. One
of my cats are named, Danielle.

                       DANIELLE
Oh-

They all become awkwardly silent.

                       JIMMY
      (to Krista)
Who are you?

                       KRISTA
You mean that son of a bitch
hasn't told you yet.
(quiet chuckle)
I think I might be you're
sister-in-law.

14.

Suddenly, Frank appears from the hallway also dazed and high
himself.

                       FRANK
      (to Krista)
Only if you're lucky.

Frank and Krista begin to cuddle.

                       JIMMY
      (to Frank)
Frank? I was unaware that you had
a wife.

                       FRANK
She's just being an idiot. We
actually met on the internet
awhile ago. Her profile seemed
legit and we got to talking and
uhhm I knew
(smirks at Krista)
I knew I was gonna like this
chick.

                       KRISTA
      (to Danielle)
Oh, wait you're the girl. Frank
told me that uhhm you worked with
animals or something.

                       DANIELLE
I groom them.

                       KRISTA
      (to Danielle)
I admire that, right on.

Frank points towards Jimmy as he quietly stands next to
Danielle.

                       FRANK
That's my bro, Jimmy.

Jimmy and Krista shake hands.

                       JIMMY
It's nice to meet you.

                       KRISTA
Jimmy? Yeah, sorry, I don't have
any pets named after you.

Jimmy is confused, while Frank laughs.

                       JIMMY
That's alright.

They all become silent standing in the middle of the family
room.

cut to: They are all sitting down at the dinner table
eating, still awkwardly silent. Frank seems to be eating
everything.

15.

                       KRISTA
These pea pods are really good.

                       DANIELLE
Thanks, I just kind've...boiled
them.

                       KRISTA
Ohh, I would really like the
recipe.

                       FRANK
That's so cute honey. Acting like
you can cook.

                       KRISTA
I can cook, Frank.

Frank begins to laugh.

                       FRANK
You'll have to exuse her. She took
some X before we got here.

Krista softly chuckles as she looks at Frank.

                       DANIELLE
So, how long have you been
together for?

                       JIMMY
Yeah, how long?

Frank and Krista laugh at each other like a couple.

                       FRANK
What is it? Like three weeks?

Suddenly Krista stops laughing and turns to Jimmy and
Danielle.

                       KRISTA
Two months.

She seems upset at Frank. He chuckles.

                       FRANK
      (embarrassed)
Wow, really? I've just been so
busy. You know, what business is
like.

                       JIMMY
Oh yeah, Frank. What kind've
business are you in?

Frank becomes silent.

                       FRANK
You know business.
(coughs)
As in taking care of it!

16.

Frank awkwardly laughs. Frank gives Jimmy a dirty look and
begins to stare at Krista.

                       FRANK (cont.)
You look hot, baby.

                       KRISTA
Frank, stop.

                       FRANK
No, seriously.
(turns to Jimmy and Danielle)
Don't you think?

Jimmy and Danielle awkwardly nod.

cut to: Jimmy and Danielle are sitting in the family room
quietly staring out the balcony window watching Frank and
Krista french kiss on the balcony.

                       DANIELLE
They look happy.

                       JIMMY
Yeah, I guess so.

                       DANIELLE
She's nice.

                       JIMMY
Yeah.

Jimmy stares at Danielle. Jimmy places his hand on her knee,
but she quickly moves her knee from Jimmy's possession.

                       JIMMY
You look good today.

                       DANIELLE
Your pretty put together yourself
today too.

Danielle glares at the coffee table and notices the
biography of VINCENT VAN GOGH.

                       DANIELLE
Van Gogh? I never knew you liked
Van Gogh.

                       JIMMY
I don't know much about him but,
apparently the man was a genius.

                       DANIELLE
He cut off his ear and sent it to
Picasso's girlfriend.

                       JIMMY
I'd call that artistic license.

Danielle smirks and becomes silent.

17.

                       JIMMY
I know this seems off topic from
eighteenth century post-
impressionism, but I wonder why we
haven't become serious.

                       DANIELLE
Jimmy, please.

                       JIMMY
You perfer the position your in?

                       DANIELLE
Dating is for suckers.
(smirks at Jimmy)
Me and you are like an underground
tag team. We can't buy into this.
It's ruined many ingenuous lives.
We can't be swallowed up like the
rest of these people.

                       JIMMY
People are idiots.

                       DANIELLE
Yeah, we are.

Jimmy and Danielle chuckle.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
It's better this way, being really
good friends.
(looks away from Jimmy)
It's less complicating.

                       JIMMY
      (quietly)
Yeah...

Jimmy becomes upset, but Danielle doesn't notice. Jimmy
attempts to say something when suddenly. Frank STORMS
through the balcony door with Krista. Frank and Krista
giggle at one another.

                       FRANK
Thanks you guys for a wonderful
evening, but I think it's time for
me to take this
(slaps Krista on her behind)
trouble maker home.

                       DANIELLE
Alright, sure.

Jimmy and Danielle stand to bid them farewell.

                       KRISTA
Bye! Thanks for everything!

18.

                       FRANK
Oh, Danielle. Do you need a lift
home? I'm driving right by your
place.

Jimmy and Danielle stare at each other.

                       JIMMY
No, you co-

                       DANIELLE
Yeah, that would be great Frank.

Jimmy seems upset, but hides it with a smile.

                       JIMMY
Yeah, alright.

                       DANIELLE
Let me just grab my coat.

                       FRANK
Alright.

Danielle grabs her coat from the closet.

                       DANIELLE
Bye, Jimmy. I'll call you or
something tommorrow.

and grabs one. He is dressed in black pants and a plain

running by him.

                       RUNNER #1

                       STARBUCK'S CASHIER
Hi! Welcome to Starbucks! What
would you like this morning?

                       JIMMY

(displays wet side of pants and
briefcase)

                       STARBUCK'S CASHIER
Well, doesn't that suck.
(smiles)
Would you rather be interested in
the triple frappa-rasberrie triple
cappacino?

20.

                       JIMMY
      (sighs)
I just need napkins.

                       STARBUCK'S CASHIER
Are you sure? Their pretty good.

Jimmy sighs as the cashier nods his head smiling.

off his pant leg and his breifcase with the napkins from the
water that was sprayed on him by the on-coming car.
Suddenly, someone stands next to Jimmy. It is his old friend
from high school, NICK CLAIR. He is exremely well built, yet
ditzy as a jock.

                       NICK
Jimmy?

Jimmy turns to see it is Nick Clair.

                       NICK
Holy Shit! I haven't seen you for

Nick hugs Jimmy and tries to wrestle with him, but Jimmy
feels uncomftorable.

                       JIMMY
Nick?

                       NICK
Nick? Come on man. It's the Clair
Bear!

Nick laughs while Jimmy fakes to laugh.

                       JIMMY
I remember that and I was-?

                       NICK

                       JIMMY
That's right.

                       NICK
What have you been saying with
your life man?

                       JIMMY
Well, Nick.
(sighs)
I'm actually a medical science
professor at Northern Arizona
University and you also might have
know that i'm vice chair of
student relations.

                       NICK
Really? Is that true, Jimmy?

21.

                       JIMMY
No, that was a complete lie. To be
honest I don't even known where
Northern Arizona is.

                       NICK
Ok? Well, what have you actually
been doing?

                       JIMMY
I just work at Micro precision.

                       NICK
Really? I've never heard of it.

                       JIMMY
Other than that i've been sleeping
alot lately.

                       NICK
I'm a stock broker.

                       JIMMY
A stock broker? Didn't you have
one of the worst SAT scores?

                       NICK
Yeah, I'm not that good at it.
The only reason I got hired was
because I played golf with the
head owner. I shot a seventy-six.
I was on fire.

                       JIMMY
That's good.

                       NICK
Hey man. We should get together.

                       JIMMY
Get together?

                       NICK
Yeah, lets rally the troops up.
You know get drunk, maybe shoot a
few paintball guns while were at
it.

                       JIMMY
Nick, were thirty. Half of the
guys must be married and have kids
by now.

Nick nods.

                       NICK
Oh, man! I can't believe I totally
forgot.
(chuckles)
I'm getting hitched on the
twenty-third.

22.

                       JIMMY
      (quietly)
Oh, Congratulations.

                       NICK
You got to come. You will come.
I'll send you an invite and
everything.

                       JIMMY
The twenty-third? The twenty-third
is going to be really busy for me.

                       NICK
Come on. You can bring a girl if
you want. You're not shelling
another lie at me are you?

                       JIMMY
Actually, I am. I'm not going to
be busy at all.

                       NICK
Great, I'll see you there?

                       JIMMY
      (hesitantly)
Okay...sure.

                       NICK
Nice! Look, I've got to jet to
work. I'll catch you later.

Nick puts his fist out and Jimmy hesitates, but knocks fists
with him feeling embarrased. Nick runs out of the Starbucks.

We notice Paul, peaking from his office window blinds.
Suddenly,Paul comes from his office and stands infront of
Jimmy tapping his watch continuously as he holds it up in
Jimmy's face.

                       JIMMY
Hi, Paul.

                       PAUL
Do you know what time it is?

                       JIMMY
Yeah, we-

23.

                       PAUL
Do you know what time it is?

                       JIMMY
I'm late, okay. I know. I was
going to take the elevat-

                       PAUL
Shut it.
(pause)
You're fifteen minutes late. So,
now I have to get out a calculator
and deduct fifteen mintues off
your weekly paycheck. And you know
that i'm not good with numbers.
That's why I got this job. So,
it's a pain in my ass.

                       JIMMY
Okay.

Jimmy notices Paul wearing a black and orange tie, with the
BEARS insignia all over it.

                       PAUL
Sweet tie, isn't it?

                       JIMMY
Yeah, it's...

                       PAUL
Big win for the Bears last night.
Supporting the team, you know?

                       JIMMY
I don't kn-

                       PAUL
      (confused)
Good old American brown-ball,
football?

                       JIMMY
I don't...watch football.

                       PAUL
What are you? Queer?

                       JIMMY
      (sighs)
I'm going to..go..sit.

Jimmy attempts to walk past Paul, but paul steps in the way.
Jimmy attempts again, but Paul again stands infront of
Jimmy. Suddenly, Paul laughs and slaps Jimmy on the
shoulder.

24.

                       PAUL
Just kidding.

Jimmy takes a seat and places his briefcase on the ground.
Jimmy takes a few papers out from his breifcase. Noreal
peaks his head from his desk towards Jimmy.

                       NOREAL
Did he show you his tie?

                       JIMMY
Yeah.

                       NOREAL
I like it.

Paul stands infront of the office.

                       PAUL
Alright! Yay for Monday!
(stares around the room)
Okay, I'm going to need you guys
to shut your pie holes for a
minute and give me an ear.

It becomes silent.

                       PAUL
The boss upstairs has been
complaining about total work
hours. Some of you have been
punching out later then you have
actually have worked. I don't want
to embarrass anyone here, but you
know who you are.

The employees begin to look at each other.

                       PAUL
And Manny I'm going to need to see
you in my office.

                       MANNY
      (whispers)
Dammit.

Manny gets up and walks to his office. Everyone begins to
work. Jimmy turns on his computer and stares at his screen
saver. It is a hang on kitty poster. He sighs and begins to
work.

INT. MCMASTER HOSPITAL - DAY

Jimmy is sitting in the waiting room with bright yellow
tulips in his lap. Jimmy glances at an elderly woman who
chuckles at a Jerry Springer segment on the mantled T.V set.
Suddenly, a nurse comes from one of the rooms.

                       NURSE
Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
Yes?

25.

                       NURSE
You're mother is ready to see you.

Jimmy stands and walks towards the room.

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - DAY

Jimmy enters the hospital room that seems very bleak with
plain blue walls and adjustable curtains. We see STACY
STEWART, Jimmy's mother. She is very bitter and negative.
She lies in her bed staring at the curtains. Jimmy notices
the flowers that he have given her in the past on the corner
table dead.

                       JIMMY
Hi, Mom.

Stacy turns to Jimmy. She fakes a smile.

                       STACY
Hello, Jimmy. Thank you for
coming.

                       JIMMY
How have you been, mom?

                       STACY
We have past that point of
adolescence, Jimmy. My name is
Stacy. I'm not mom anymore.

                       JIMMY
I've brought you flowers.

Stacy quickly glances at the flowers as Jimmy holds them up.

                       STACY
Yes, their nice.

Jimmy goes to place the flowers next to her table.

                       STACY
But keep them, please.

                       JIMMY
But tulips are your favourite.

                       STACY
Yes they are, but when they die
they leave a very unsettling
smell.

Jimmy grabs the flowers back.

                       STACY
Give them to Frank or something
(pause)
Or to that girlfriend of yours,
Danielle.

                       JIMMY
She was never my girlfriend.

26.

                       STACY
You finally realized that she was
actually a voodoo priestess like I
predicted, didn't you?

                       JIMMY
She's a veterinarian assistant.

                       STACY
What do you think they do with the
animals when they die? You think I
don't know?

Jimmy sighs and sits in a chair next to her.

                       JIMMY
Frank was going to come by, but
he's been busy.

                       STACY
How has Frank being doing?

                       JIMMY
He's been okay.

                       STACY
My boy, is he still doing well as
an accountant?

                       JIMMY
Sure.

                       STACY
Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
Yes?

                       STACY
Do you know what day it is today?

                       JIMMY
It's monday.

Stacy nods her head.

                       STACY
This is pretty sad don't you
think, Jimmy?
(wraps the blanket tightly)
That the single occurence I look
forward to is the date passing by.
Every other aspect of my life
remains in suspended animation.

                       JIMMY
That's not true.

                       STACY
You wouldn't have any idea, so
your opinion is invalid.
(sighs)
Everytime I wake up, I look up and
I see that broken fucking fan. It
hits me like a brick because it
            (MORE)

27.

                       STACY (cont'd)
reminds that i'm still here,
laying in a bed much too small, in
a sterile cold room which only
lends itself to the smell of
intravenous fluid. So, I spend
most of my time unconscious.
Do you know they don't even change
the sheets here?
(sighs)
Other then that everything has
been okay.

Stacy covers herself in her sheets. As Jimmy stares up at
the broken teal fan hung over her bed.

                       JIMMY
You should open your blinds.

                       STACY
You're right, Jimmy. How about you
open them up?

Jimmy walks towards the blinds and opens them. There is a
wall behind the blinds. The room has no windows.

                       STACY (cont.)
Breathtaking, isn't it?

                       JIMMY
I can move you to another room.
(stares at the bleak wall)
A room with a window.

                       STACY
That's okay. I happen to like this
room.

Stacy begins to turn away and cover herself in her sheets.

                       STACY (cont.)
I appreciated your company Jimmy,
but I think i'm going to bed for
another twelve hours.

                       JIMMY
I just came.

                       STACY
And thank you for coming. Now,
it's time for my beauty sleep.

Stacy shuts her eyes. Jimmy stares at Stacy. Jimmy then
grabs the tulips and leaves the room.

INT. DANIELLE'S HOUSE - DAY

Jimmy is standing on the porch of Danielle's house. Danielle
opens the door and Jimmy gives her the tulips.

                       DANIELLE
Are you proposing to me, Jimmy?

28.

Jimmy enters the house quietly and upset.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
Why are you upset? I was going to
call you.

                       JIMMY
I feel terrible.

                       DANIELLE
Who were these actually for?

                       JIMMY
They were for my mother. I visited
her today.

                       DANIELLE
Oh, how is she?

                       JIMMY
Am I bad person, Danielle?
Do I give some kind of aura
off that makes me unlikable?

                       DANIELLE
No, but you could take a shower.

                       JIMMY
All this time I thought I was
helping my mother, but in
actuality I have her living
in a glorified bomb shelter.

                       DANIELLE
Why don't you move her to a room
with big windows or something?

                       JIMMY
I told her that, but you see
that's how sick she's gotten that
she actually prefers to live in
what some would consider a fruit
cellar.

Jimmy sits heavily on Danielle's couch. Danielle sits next
to Jimmy.

                       DANIELLE
Well, my day wasn't great either.

                       JIMMY
What happened to you?

                       DANIELLE
There was a pet pug that came in
and...

                       JIMMY
What happened?

29.

                       DANIELLE
A coral snake bit it, uuhm, at the
back of it's head.

Jimmy and Danielle both slump in the couch.

                       DANIELLE
I'm just an assistant, but we
worked really hard. Apparently,
the pug didn't feel anything when
it died, so I guess that's okay.

                       JIMMY
Our vision is so oddly blurred.
All you see is optimism and all
I see is impending doom.

                       DANIELLE
I guess we both don't believe in
the truth.

                       JIMMY
I guess not.

Danielle's dog walks in the room, the dog's name is SAMSON.
He begins to chew on his toy. Samson seems as if he is
trying to swallow the toy.

                       JIMMY
Are you sure he should be doing
that?

                       DANIELLE
Samson! Don't worry about him.
He's just and idiot.

Samson places his toy down and begins to stare at the VCR
propped up on a shelf.

                       DANIELLE
Sometimes I think when I'm not
home that he smokes crack or
something.

Samson begins to bang his head against the wall and suddenly
scatters out of the room.

                       DANIELLE
Are you hungry?

                       JIMMY
I could eat something.

Danielle leaves the livingroom and goes into the kitchen.
Jimmy looks at the side table and notices a picture of
Danielle when she was young. She is crying with a scraped
knee. Jimmy smiles.

INT. DANIELLE'S KITCHEN - DAY

Danielle is sorting through a few things in the fridge.
While, Jimmy walks into the kitchen.

30.

                       DANIELLE
There are a few things I can make.

Jimmy notices a room next to a kitchen full of books. He
enters the room.

INT. DANIELLE'S DEN - DAY

Jimmy notices a large selection of chidlrens books. As
Jimmy's eyes pans over the large collection he notices the
series of the TWIGHLIGHT ZONE BOOKS.

                       DANIELLE (OS)
Jimmy?

Danielle enters the room and notices Jimmy looking through
the books.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
Where did you get all of these?

                       DANIELLE
Oh, well my aunt used to be a
librarian for a few primary
schools.
(looks around the room)
I just dragged this stuff out of
the crawl space. I guess she was a
part-time criminal too.

Jimmy sorts through the books.

                       JIMMY
The Painting, To serve man, the
stranger.

                       DANIELLE
I remember those. They weren't
that great anyways. They all ended
the same way.

                       JIMMY
That's what I liked about it. I
think it kind've warped my sense
of what society is really like.

                       DANIELLE
And what's that?

                       JIMMY
That ultimately, we live only to
gradually downfall.

                       DANIELLE
I just thought they were crappier
renditions of the t.v show.

                       JIMMY
I had a whole bunch of these when
I was younger.

31.

                       DANIELLE
Where are they now?

                       JIMMY
The funny thing is I don't
remember.
(flips through book)
I think my mom threw them out
because she believed they were
sacreligous.

Danielle grabs one of the books and checks the cover.

                       DANIELLE
      (sarcastically)
Oh, yeah. I can't believe I missed
that. Published and edited by
Lucifer himself.

Jimmy and Danielle both laugh

                       DANIELLE
I was going to give them out for
the waiting room, but if you
really want them you can have
them.

                       JIMMY
No, that's alright. I guess I
passed that point of adolescence a
long time ago.

Jimmy neatly places the book down.

                       DANIELLE
So?

                       JIMMY
We should eat.

EXT. DANIELLE'S PORCH - NIGHT

Jimmy walks out the house and stops at the porch turning to
Danielle. Due to the porch light the leaves seem to be
falling.

                       JIMMY
Thanks, Danielle.

Danielle hands Jimmy the tulips.

                       JIMMY (cont.)
You can keep them.

                       DANIELLE
I love tulips.

                       JIMMY
Just make sure to throw them out
before they die.

32.

Danielle places the tulips in the house. Jimmy turns to walk
down the stairs. Jimmy begins to walk down the stairs, but
turns to Danielle quickly.

                       JIMMY (cont.)
What are you doing on the
twenty-third?

                       DANIELLE
The twenty-third?

                       JIMMY
This Friday.

                       DANIELLE
      (sarcastically)
Oh, Friday. Well, uhhm, i'm going
to be really busy. I was planning
on, uhhm, refilling my ice cube
trays and....important things of
that nature. Yeah pretty crazy
stuff.

                       JIMMY
I don't think I can top that.

                       DANIELLE
Let me here you out.

                       JIMMY
My friend from high school is
getting married. Nick, the person
I lied too.

                       DANIELLE
Nick Clair? Oh, is it the Clair
bear? Call me the Clair bear!

Danielle and Jimmy laugh.

                       JIMMY
Yeah, that's him. Well, he wants
me to attend his wedding.
(hesitantly)
I was wondering if you would
possibly consider coming with me?

Danielle becomes quiet and smiles at Jimmy.

                       DANIELLE
I think I could put that off.

Danielle and Jimmy fall silent, again.

                       JIMMY
      (smiles)
It's a good thing to know that i'm
rated higher then ice cubes.

Danielle smiles back as Jimmy walks down the stairs into the
night.

33.

                       DANIELLE
This isn't a date, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY (os)
I know, it's a wedding.

INT. MICRO PRECISION - OFFICE - DAY

Jimmy seems to be typing figures into his computer and is
concentrating on his work. Suddenly, he feels a presence
behind him. Jimmy turns off his monitor and is slightly
startled to see the reflection of Paul behind him.

                       JIMMY
Paul?

                       PAUL
What's up, Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
Just punching in the numbers.

                       PAUL
I'm concerned, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Did I screw up the journalizing
reports, again?

                       PAUL
Lets leave the journalizing
reports out. Their fine, i'm
kind've worried about you and us.
Well, more you.

                       JIMMY
What is it?

                       PAUL
Well, as you are well aware of our
twenty-five hours of mandatory
counselor service policy.

                       JIMMY
Yeah.

                       PAUL
And I'm happy, Jimmy. Don't get me
wrong. You've seemed to be quite
involved in that policy, but what
worries me is. Well, it seems that
you're having doubts of continuing
a career with Micro Precision.

                       JIMMY
My job is fine.

Paul reveals Jimmy's personal counselor file.

                       PAUL
Well, it states here-

34.

                       JIMMY
I'm not going to quit, Paul.
(looks towards his file)
Aren't those things confedential?

                       PAUL
I don't see anywhere where it
states confedentiality.

Paul begins to flip over the file. Suddenly, we notice a
large stamp on the back of the folder which states
CONFIDENTIAL. Paul becomes embarassed.

                       PAUL (cont.)
No, see this is confidential to
you.

                       JIMMY
Why would it be confidential to
me? I mean, it's my own profile.

                       PAUL
Well put, Jimmy.
(silent)
I didn't mean to come down here
and bust your balls. I just wanted
to see if we were on the same
wavelength.
(coughs)
And we are, so it's okay.

                       JIMMY
Okay.
(points towards a pile of folders)
Well, I have to get these numbers
in before twelve.

                       PAUL
Yeah, that's great.

Jimmy begins to type in numbers in his computer.

                       PAUL
It would probably be better if you
didn't tell anybody about this.

                       JIMMY
Alright.

Manny overhears and seems suspicious. Paul walks back to his
office. Manny and Jimmy share gazes, but quickly continue to
work on their computers.

INT. PAULS' OFFICE - DAY

Jimmy hurries to Pauls office and checks his watch. He
places his files on his desk and leaves the room. Suddenly,
he is confronted by Manny.

                       MANNY
Jimmy.

35.

                       JIMMY
Manny?

Manny rubs Jimmy's shoulder.

                       MANNY
Is everything with you, okay?

                       JIMMY
Yeah.

                       MANNY
Look, I heard a few things today
in the office and it had me
(quietly)
Suspiscous.

                       JIMMY
Like what?

                       MANNY
I don't feel like saying anything,
but maybe you should take this
card.

Jimmy glances at the card and it his a office help phone for
people that are being harrassed.

                       JIMMY
You think I'm being harrased?

                       MANNY
It's nothing to be ashamed of.
Look, I have to get going.
God's speed, brother.

Manny walks out of the office. Jimmy stares at the card.

                       JIMMY
      (whispers)
Dear God.

INT. BILL'S WAITING ROOM - DAY

Jimmy is sitting in the waiting room. Suddenly, Bill and
another man exit Bill's office.

                       BILL
Listen to your doctor. Just
continue taking your daily amounts
of Celexa and you should be okay.

The man nods to Bill and walks out of the building.

                       BILL
You're next, Jimmy.

Jimmy and Bill walk into Bill's office.

36.

INT. BILL'S OFFICE - DAY

Jimmy and Bill sit down to Bill's desk. Bill begins to file
in his cabinet. Jimmy stares at Bill.

                       JIMMY
Do you do this all day?

                       BILL
Do what?

                       JIMMY
Try to help every single person
that comes through that door?
Everyday?

                       BILL
Well, I try, but i'm not paid on
commission Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
How do you know someone needs help
and someone who doesn't?

                       BILL
You can tell. Well, I can tell.

                       JIMMY
So far, can you tell that I need
help?

                       BILL
We all need help. Some way or
another.

Bill opens Jimmy's file and begins to mark a few things
down.

                       JIMMY
So, what am I supposed to learn
today?

                       BILL
No lesson, just a simply question.
A truthful awnser.

                       JIMMY
Okay.

Bill coughs and stares at Jimmy.

                       BILL
Imagine a thousand story building
and you were standing on top of
that building.

                       JIMMY
Okay.

37.

                       BILL
And lets just say across from you
there was another thousand story
building, with a small pole
connecting both of them.

                       JIMMY
What's the reasoning of me
standing on top of the building?

                       BILL
A hypothetical one, Jimmy.
(smirks)
What would take you to cross?

                       JIMMY
Truthfully?

                       BILL
The truth.

                       JIMMY
Well, I would probably be so
overcome with fear that I would be
too crippled to think.
(places head down)
I would probably crouch down in
the fetal position and except my
fate.

                       BILL
You would never cross?

                       JIMMY
I know its selfish and cowardly,
but sadly it is the truth.

                       BILL
That's all I can ask from you,
Jimmy.
(looks down at the file)
So, you don't care for chances?

                       JIMMY
I don't care for uncertainty.

                       BILL
What if the building were too
collapse?

                       JIMMY
Well, atleast I know death is
certain and I can attempt to
accept it. If I cross there is
glimmer of chance, but I wouldn't
be prepared to die. There lies the
uncertainty.

Bill smiles and begins to write a few things in his file.

                       JIMMY
What about you?

38.

                       BILL
What about me?

                       JIMMY
What if you were on that building?

Bill chuckles.

                       BILL
I wouldn't be.

                       JIMMY
Why not?

                       BILL
I'm afraid of heights.

Bill smiles and continues to write in his file. Jimmy
chuckles aswell.

INT. JIMMY'S HALLWAY - DAY

Jimmy enters the hallway walking slowly. Suddenly, as Jimmy
goes to unlock the door. Frank opens the door.

                       FRANK
Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Hey, Frank.

                       FRANK
Can you come back later?

                       JIMMY
Why?

                       KRISTA (os)
Frank!? Who is it!?

                       FRANK
You know.

                       JIMMY
Is that, Krista?

                       FRANK
Yeah.

                       JIMMY
What am I supposed to do?

                       FRANK
I don't know. Why don't you go to
the arcade or something?

Franks shuts the door in Jimmy's face. Jimmy stands at the
doorway.

39.

                       JIMMY
      (quietly)
The arcade is closed.

INT. JACK IN THE BOX - MOVIE STORE - NIGHT

Jimmy and Danielle stand at a shelf staring at movies. Every
film happens to be a sequel or some sort of trilogy.

                       JIMMY
Everything has a sequel.

                       DANIELLE
Welcome to American culture.

                       JIMMY
I hate sequels. I mean all it is,
are other parts of someones life
that try to out-due their previous
life experiences, which never
happens in reality.
(pause)
Essentially, life is just one
severly tedious, drawn out movie
with no point. You already know
what's going to happen in the end,
half way through and when It is
all over you still don't get your
money back. Sequels don't exist.

                       DANIELLE
      (sarcastically)
Not necessarily. In my opinon,
world war two kicked world war
one's ass and that was a sequel.

                       JIMMY
      (slight chuckle)
My mind flees me.

Suddenly, a man walks next to Danielle. His name is PATRICK.
He is dressed in a rediculous pink and yellow JOKER costume.
He is tall in stature and is quite good-looking.

                       PATRICK
Danielle?

                       DANIELLE
Patrick? Oh, my God!

Jimmy is confused.

                       PATRICK
Wow, I mean it's been like since
ninty five.

                       DANIELLE
Yeah, God I know.

Danielle and Patrick hug.

40.

                       PATRICK
So, what have you been doing?

                       DANIELLE
I've been here doing my thing.
I nurse pets. Well, I kind've
groom them more.

                       PATRICK
Pets?

                       DANIELLE
Yeah, It's a living.

                       PATRICK
Yeah, I know what you mean.

                       DANIELLE
You look great. Is this what you
do now?

                       PATRICK
Oh, yeah well This is only
temporary. Paying my dues.
(plays with clown hat)
Things are good. I'm still acting.

                       DANIELLE
Really? That's great.

                       PATRICK
I'm auditioning for a role on CSI.

                       DANIELLE
No way!

                       PATRICK
Yeah, forensic assistant number
two . "It seems to be a toxic
substance." I'm one of those guys.
He could be a regular character

                       DANIELLE
That's really great. I'm real
happy for you.

Jimmy interrupts.

                       JIMMY
Hi.

                       PATRICK
Hey.

                       DANIELLE
Oh, this is my friend, Jimmy.

                       PATRICK
Nice to meet you, Jimmy.

41.

                       JIMMY
Yeah.

                       PATRICK
Well, it was great talking to you,
but I better get going.
(checks his watch)
My break seems to be done.

                       DANIELLE
Yeah, well you should give me a
call.
(friendly smile)
We can catch up.

Danielle takes a card and pen from her purse and rights her
number down. Danielle gives her number to Patrick.

                       PATRICK
Yeah, alright. I'll talk to you
later,then.
(turns to Jimmy)
Bye, Jimmy.

Patrick walks into the employees lounge.

                       JIMMY
Yeah, bye.
(turns to Danielle)
Who was that?

                       DANIELLE
When we were younger we went to
acting class together.

                       JIMMY
I didn't know you went to acting
class.

                       DANIELLE
That's before I knew you. I wanted
to be an actress, but I settled
with being a veterinarian
assistant. Patrick, dropped out in
freshman year.

                       JIMMY
Well, that's very aspiring of him.

                       DANIELLE
He thinks he's a good entertainer.

                       JIMMY
I'm sure he does.

                       DANIELLE
Don't be jealous because he
accomplished something.

                       JIMMY
He's an alernate to an extra. I
don't even think they get paid.

42.

                       DANIELLE
He still has his ambitions.

                       JIMMY
So did I, now I see a counselor.

Jimmy and Danielle both become silent.

EXT. OUTSIDE MOVIE STORE - NIGHT

Danielle and Jimmy walk from the store. They ponder on the
front steps of the store.

                       DANIELLE
Where are we going to watch these?

                       JIMMY
No, can't. Frank's having Krista
over.

                       DANIELLE
Well, we can't go to my house. My
aunt and uncle are having a euchre
tournament in the family room.

Danielle looks in the movie store bag.

                       DANIELLE
This was pointless.

                       JIMMY
Well, I'll see you later.

Jimmy jokingly begins to walk away.

                       DANIELLE
Want to get some coffee?

Jimmy slowly turns back to Danielle.

                       JIMMY
Yeah, alright.

INT. COFFEE SHOP - NIGHT

Jimmy and Danielle are sitting next to the large open window
of the coffee shop. They are the only one's in the shop.
Jimmy takes a sip of his drink.

                       JIMMY
I saw someone who I used to go to
junior high with, yesterday.

                       DANIELLE
Yeah?

                       JIMMY
He asked me how I was doing.

                       DANIELLE
What did you tell him?

43.

                       JIMMY
I lied, I actually lied right in
his face. I said I was a professor
at some university in Arizona.

                       DANIELLE
Why? And Arizona of all places.

                       JIMMY
I don't know, there is always a
need in me to have the people from
my past believe that i've moved
on. I don't know why i'm so
desperate on showing a sense of
change.

                       DANIELLE
It's in all of us, Jimmy. Maybe we
liked our old selves, but the fact
of the matter is no one wants to
be the one left behind.

Jimmy takes a sip of his drink.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
Oh, you have some of...

Jimmy believes he got some of his drink on his face. He
begins to rub his lips.

                       JIMMY
Where?

                       DANIELLE
Right there.

Jimmy rubs his face again.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
Yeah, there.

                       JIMMY
Right here?

                       DANIELLE
No, right there.

Jimmy continues to rub his face, while Danielle smirks.
Jimmy notices that there is nothing on his face.

                       JIMMY
There's nothing on my face is
there?

                       DANIELLE
Nope.

Danielle chuckles. She stares out the window and they both
become silent.

                       JIMMY
Do you find me attractive?

44.

                       DANIELLE
      (laughingly)
What?

                       JIMMY
No, seriously.

                       DANIELLE
      (laughingly)
How do you expect me to answer
that with a straight face?

                       JIMMY
Alright, fine. You know I thought
we could be adults, but I quess I
was wrong.

                       DANIELLE
Define attractive.

                       JIMMY
You know, devilishly good-looking,
extremely intelligent, emotional,
throws caution to the wind, the
whole bit.

                       DANIELLE
Then no, definetly not.

Danielle laughs.

                       JIMMY
I didn't think so.

                       DANIELLE
Why? Do you think i'm attractive?

Jimmy and Danielle stare at each other. They both smile at
one another.

                       JIMMY
      (sarcastically)
You're okay.

                       DANIELLE
Thank's, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Do you think Patrick is
attractive?

                       DANIELLE
Why do you care about some guy I
used to go to acting classes with?

                       JIMMY
I don't.

                       DANIELLE
Alright?

45.

                       JIMMY
It's just. Well, you gave this guy
your number. I don't remember you
ever giving your number to me.

                       DANIELLE
You know my number.

                       JIMMY
I've known you since sophmore year
at Kennedy and I had to find your
number in the phonebook, but
that's still not the point.

                       DANIELLE
What's the point?

                       JIMMY
The point is
(pause)
I don't think you should get
together with this Patrick guy.

                       DANIELLE
Why do you sound threatened?

                       JIMMY
Threatened? I'm not threatened.

                       DANIELLE
Then what is it?

                       JIMMY
I just think.

                       DANIELLE
He's no more of friend then you
are.

                       JIMMY
Why do you always feel the need to
place a limit between the people
you know?

                       DANIELLE
      (hesitantly)
I don't know what you mean.

                       JIMMY
It's like this invisible barrier
you put over yourself to protect
yourself from relationships. For
some reason, you stay away from it
as much as you can.

                       DANIELLE
I figure that if you never want
one to end then why let one begin,
right?
(moves closer to Jimmy)
Don't you think were too young to

                       JIMMY
Were getting old quick, Danielle.

                       DANIELLE
      (sarcastically)
You're right. This morning when I
got out of bed my hip came out.
(chuckles)
I mean for godsakes you worry too
much for your own good, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
It's not that I worry. It just
seems like everyone's establishing
their lives now and i'm still here
wandering the state of immaturity.

                       DANIELLE
It's better not to think about it.
(looks down)
Not now.

Jimmy takes a sip of his drink.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
      (friendly)
I find you attractive, Jimmy.

Jimmy lifts his head from the drink and smiles.

                       JIMMY
      (slight chuckle)
The sympathy card always rubbed me
the wrong way.

                       DANIELLE
Your welcome.

Jimmy and Danielle continue sipping their coffee.

INT. JIMMY'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Jimmy enters the apartment. It is very dark and quiet. Jimmy
enters the kitchen and looks through the fridge. Jimmy
glances at Frank's room and notices that no one is in the
room. Jimmy goes enters his room.

INT. JIMMY'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Jimmy enters his bedroom and turns on the light. He notices
that Frank and Krista are kissing each other naked in
Jimmy's bed.

                       FRANK
Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
      (nervously)
Yeah, okay.

                       KRISTA
Hi, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Yeah-

Jimmy shuts the door to his room and has a stunned look on
his face.

INT. FRANK'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Jimmy enters Franks bedroom and notices that it is a total
disaster. Everything is thrown around. Jimmy grabs one of
Frank's blankets and leaves the room.

INT. JIMMY'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Jimmy sits on his couch in the dark and places Frank's
blanket over him. We notice Jimmy's face is still in
disbelief which is illuminated by the moon. Jimmy begins to
twist and turn on the couch, while he covers himself with
the blanket.

INT. MICRO PRECISION. - DAY

Everyone is hard at their work. Suddenly, Paul appears from
his office and stands by the cubicals.

                       PAUL
Listen up, you bunch of bozzo's.
It's Friday today! T.G.I.F!

Jimmy stops his work and looks at Bill.

                       PAUL (cont.)
Does anybody here care to tell the
office what T.G.I.F stands for?

The office becomes silent.

                       PAUL (cont.)
Okay, well. T.G.I.F stands for
(stalls in anticipation)
terminating guarded inventory
financials! Oh yeah!

                       MANNY
Wait, doesn't T.G.I.F actually
stand for thank God it's friday?

                       SAM
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what
it means.

48.

                       PAUL
It could, but it also means that
some of you are going to have to
work the nightshift tonight.

The office sighs and angry rambling occurs between cubicles.

                       PAUL (cont.)
I guess you're going to have to
thank God another night people.

Paul takes out a clipboard.

Why not, Manny?

                       MANNY
I have things to do, Paul.

                       BILL
Like what?

                       MANNY
That's my privacy, Paul.

                       PAUL
Come on, fill me in.

                       MANNY
Well, I was planning to... the
thing and stuff for.

                       PAUL
Mhmm, I'll see you here tonight.

Manny slumps in his chair.

Sam and I believe...Noreal.

                       NOREAL

Jimmy begins to work again, when suddenly he notices Paul
standing next to him.

                       JIMMY
Hi, Paul.

                       PAUL
Jimmy, what are you saying
tonight, my man?

Ahh, nothing really, I migh-

Doesn't sound like much of a plan.

No, well I wa-

                       PAUL
Good, so you can stay in for the
night shift? That's great.

                       JIMMY
No, actually.

                       PAUL
Actually?

                       JIMMY
I have a wedding to attend to.

Paul chuckles mockingly towards Jimmy.

                       PAUL
Waseam used that one last week.
Besides, who in their right mind
would want to bare your children?

                       JIMMY
It's not my wedding. It's a friend
of mine.

                       PAUL
Jimmy, let's get serious. You
don't have friends.

                       JIMMY
Yeah, we-

                       PAUL
You know what? I'm in a good mood.
Have the Friday off. You're a good
man, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Thanks Paul.

                       PAUL
I'll just pencil you in Sunday.

Jimmy sighs in disappointment as Paul walks into his office.

INT. JIMMY'S BEDROOM - DAY

Jimmy is placing on his suit. He places on his jacket and
tightens his tie. He stares at himself in the mirror.
Suddenly, Frank walks into Jimmy's room.

                       FRANK
Are you ready?

50.

                       JIMMY
I should be.

EXT. OUTSIDE DANIELLE'S HOUSE - DAY

Frank stops the car and Jimmy exits the car and walks to the
edge of Danielle's steps. Suddenly, Danielle walks out of
her house. She looks absolutely gorgeous wearing a dark
maroon dress reaking of the 60's. Jimmy smiles as they share
gazes.

                       DANIELLE
It was my grandmothers.

                       JIMMY
She wore it for her wedding?

                       DANIELLE
No, for her funeral.

                       JIMMY
I like it.

Danielle and Jimmy walk side by side to the car.

INT. WEDDING HALL - DAY

The wedding hall is swarming with young happy people, while
Jimmy and Danielle both seem less enthusiastic. Jimmy and
Danielle notice Nick and greet with him.

                       NICK
Jimmy, you came!

Nick tries to wrestle with Jimmy as a joke, but again it
bothers Jimmy. Danielle chuckles.

                       JIMMY
Congratulations, Nick.

                       NICK
It's nothing big man.

Nick glances at Danielle.

                       JIMMY
      (turns to Danielle)
Oh, this is-

                       NICK
Christine, right?

Danielle and Nick shake hands.

                       DANIELLE
Danielle.

                       NICK
      (laughs)
No, it's Christine.

51.

                       DANIELLE
I've never met you before.

                       NICK
Well, you look like a Christine.
Danielle is a fat girl's name.
(pause)
Do you guys want to see the bride?

                       JIMMY
      (and Danielle)
Sure

Nick reveals the bride, but she is crying profusely, while
she is surrounded by her bride maids.

                       NICK
What's wrong, honey?

                       BRIDE
      (crying)
I told them not to put the pink,
but they go and do it! It's all
ruined! I hate everyone!

                       JIMMY
Congratulations!

                       DANIELLE
You should be happy together!

                       BRIDE
      (crying)
I'm miserable!

                       NICK
Well, I should take care of this.
I'll see you guys in a bit.

Nick walks away with the bride. Jimmy and Danielle share a
laugh.

                       JIMMY
I thought we were supposed to be
the happiest on our wedding days.

                       DANIELLE
We were lied to.

INT. WEDDING HALL - DINNER - DAY

The hall is packed with people. It is very nicely decorated
and formal. At the front of the Hall there is the head table
with all the groomsmen and maids. Gerald and Danielle sit
near the front tables, while Homer seems to be speaking with
a few older people at the neibouring table.

The MC stands up in front of the microphone.

                       MC
The groom would now like to speak
and if we can have you're
attention that would be great.

52.

Nick stands up and grabs the microphone. He pulls a folded
up letter from his pant pocket.

                       NICK
I would like to thank you all for
coming today. My friends.

All of Nick's friends lift their drinks as they stand by the
bar.

                       NICK (cont.)
My family. My in-laws and my real
family
(points to both families)
Were just one big happy family,
now.

Nick coughs and sorts through his wrinkled paper.

                       NICK (cont.)
I feel very special today because
today I get an opportunity to
marry that special lady over
there.

Nick gestures to the bride.

                       NICK (cont.)
That's you! Times are getting
better from now on. I can feel it.
When we went to the Whistling
Walrus on our ninth date. I knew
she was going to be my wife.

Nick again looks over his wrinkled paper.

                       NICK (cont.)
If anyone thinks i'm soft! We can
take it outside!

The guests laugh as well as Nick. Nick takes out a shot of
rum and drinks it.

                       NICK (cont.)
I love you, baby!

Everyone begins to clap, while the bride is in tears of
happiness. Suddenly, Nick's brother CHRIS, who is completley
drunk tries to grab the microphone from Nick.

                       CHRIS
Give me the mike, Nick.

                       NICK
And I guess my brother Chris would
like to say something?

                       CHRIS
Hello! Everyone! I am so happy
today.
(takes sip of drink)
But that's not all that makes me
happy. Life makes me happy. This
in my life makes me happy, but you

There is a loud gasp from the guests. Danielle begins to
laugh hysterically.

                       CHRIS (cont.)
Things have sucked lately, since
I've relapsed again last
september. I'm not sure if you
knew, but I tried to throw myself
into on-comming traffic a few
weeks ago.
(takes a large sip from drink)
To Nick and Katie.

                       MC
      (whispers)
Karley.

                       CHRIS
Yeah, Karla.

The family is shocked and not many people are clapping. The
bride is crying again in sadness. Danielle is still laughing
hard.

                       CHRIS (cont.)
You're too kind.

The music begins to play and Chris tries to walk back to the
table, but falls down. The MC helps him up.

                       NICK'S MOTHER
Did you tell him to drink?

                       NICK'S FATHER
It wasn't so bad.

                       NICK'S MOTHER
Are you kidding me? It was
embarrassing. I told him not to
drink.

INT. WEDDING HALL - NIGHT

All of the wedding guests are dancing, while the band plays
music. People are drinking and having a good time. Jimmy and
Danielle sit quietly in the foyer staring at a roughly made
marble statue and having a drink.

Suddenly a young teenager appears from the washroom who is
completley drunk. He seems very disoriented and stumbles.
Danielle begins to chuckle.

                       DANIELLE
Do you ever think your going to
get married?

54.

                       JIMMY
Ideally.

                       DANIELLE
      (sighs)
Me neither.

Jimmy notices Danielle is slightly drunk.

                       JIMMY
Are you drunk?

                       DANIELLE
Just a little bit.

                       JIMMY
That's good.

                       DANIELLE
Yeah.

Danielle takes a sip of her drink.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
I like this.

                       JIMMY
Really?
(takes sip of drink)
My drink's alittle watered down.

                       DANIELLE
I mean this.
(turns to the wedding hall)
The bridesmaids, the grooms, the
flower girls and the cheap
alcohol. The drunk people and the
fake plastic flowers. This fake
happiness. I know it's incredibly
misleading and tacky, but it's
fulfilling.

                       JIMMY
I think fulfillment is all were
looking for.

Danielle begins too laugh.

                       DANIELLE
Do you want to just go?

                       JIMMY
What, right now?

                       DANIELLE
Lets just get the hell out of
here.

                       JIMMY
Where do you plan on going?

55.

                       DANIELLE
Probably anywhere, but this place.
I'm going to need a side-kick for
this mission.

                       JIMMY
      (smiles)
I think I can qualify.

Jimmy and Danielle leave the wedding hall.

INT. BUS - NIGHT

Danielle and Jimmy enter the bus. There is no one on the bus
other then them. Danielle races to the back of the bus as
Jimmy chuckles. Danielle and Jimmy sit quietly as they
notice a BILLBOARD with a small child pulling his parents
pant leg with I WANT TO BE A DOCTOR, written next to it. An
early educational progam advertisment.

                       DANIELLE
Maybe it's better to be lost.

                       JIMMY
What do you mean?

Danielle begins to swing on a bar.

                       DANIELLE
I always heard at one point we
evolute into responsible people. I
think that's just a fairy tale for
grown-ups.

                       JIMMY
I think when you find out what
your role is, you won't have to
worry about those disrupting
events, like turning thirty.

                       DANIELLE
It didn't scare me. Sure your not
the person you used to be and your
not sure who your going to become,
but were here. Were not dead.
(pause)
Don't under-estimate the power of
confusion. It effects facets of
our lives that it never would've
it was already planned out.

                       JIMMY
Could be.

                       DANIELLE
I'd say we were lucky.

                       JIMMY
I highly doubt that.

56.

                       DANIELLE
      (smiles)
I have an idea.

                       JIMMY
Should I be worried?

Jimmy glares at Danielle as she grins.

INT. OUTSIDE MOTOR SHOP - NIGHT

Jimmy and Danielle make there way to an old delapting motor
shop shed surrounded by absent roads. Danielle begins to
rummage around the shed while Jimmy stands cautiously by.

                       JIMMY
What are we doing?

                       DANIELLE
      (whispers)
Shhh.

                       JIMMY
I don't really feel like going to
jail today.

Danielle begins to rip off covers.

                       DANIELLE
Don't worry. No one is ever around
here, anyways. I know a guy, Luiz.
He used to work at this place
part-time and told me the older
models with crappier motors were
always kept outside.
(rips off sheet)
That's it.
(smiles and turns to Jimmy)

We notice a row of dusty and aged VESPAS from the 1960's.
They seem rusted, scratched and display a dark tinge to the
outter shell. Danielle takes a seat on the vespa.

                       JIMMY
You're not serious, are you?

                       DANIELLE
Follow my lead.

                       JIMMY
      (sighs)
I guess i'm unfortunetly in.

cut to: The distinct vespa lights make their way down the
empty road. Jimmy and Danielle carelessly change lanes and
attempt jokingly to kick one another off. They both seem to
smile with such pure gleams. They continue down the road.

57.

EXT. OVER-PASS BRIDGE - NIGHT

Jimmy and Danielle, with their vespas, make it up onto the
bridge and come to a slow halt as they make their way on an
over-pass, which is bare with any cars.

cut to: Jimmy and Danielle silently lay flush on the
cemented overpass and stare towards the sky.

                       DANIELLE
The Iberian Lynx. The closest
mammal on the brink of extinction.
It will be forced to wander the
Portugal valleys, until it finds a
way not to exist anymore.
(pause)
The decline has been caused
cheifly by agricultural and
industrial development intruting
on woodland and thicket habitat.
(pause)
I read this in a brochure.
Seemingly, they chose to fund a
super highway instead.

                       JIMMY
What mediocre times we live in.
(pause)
Where we progressively belittle
the status of everything else, but
ourselves.

Danielle turns to Jimmy.

                       JIMMY (cont.)
The world is just this place where
we build things over-top of it to
trick ourselves into believing it
was never there to begin with.

Danielle and Jimmy become silent.

                       DANIELLE
What are you afraid of, Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
What?

                       DANIELLE
What's your fear? What are you
afraid of?

                       JIMMY
I don't know.

                       DANIELLE
What do you mean, I don't know?

                       JIMMY
I guess I never really thought
about it.

58.

                       DANIELLE
That's such bullshit. Everyone is
infatuated with their own fears.
It's the human condition.

Jimmy sighs.

                       JIMMY
I don't know. Bad dreams, confined
spaces...uhm-

                       DANIELLE
      (laughingly)
God, that was a real poor attempt.

                       JIMMY
I tried.

                       DANIELLE
      (laughingly)
Clearly, not hard enough.

Danielle and Jimmy become silent.

                       JIMMY
Who are you?

                       DANIELLE
I'm a figment of your imagination
and who are you?

Jimmy becomes silent and stares back at Danielle.

                       JIMMY
I'm still trying to figure that
out.

Jimmy and Danielle smile at each other. Danielle stares off
at the VESPAS.

                       DANIELLE
I have a flare gun.

cut to: A BURSTING FLAME OF RED FLYS OVERTOP OF THEM
EMITTING FROM THE GUN. Another flare is fired.

Jimmy and Danielle stare from the bridge nodding their
heads.

                       JIMMY
Where did you find the flare gun?

                       DANIELLE
Luiz.

Danielle hands the flare to Jimmy. Jimmy holds out the gun
and hesitantly FIRES A FLARE. Illuminating the sky. They
stare.

                       JIMMY
We should never do this again.

                       DANIELLE
We will.

59.

cut to: Jimmy and Danielle return onto their Vespas and
continue to ride down the bridge.

INT. JIMMY'S APARTMENT - ELEVATOR - DAY

Jimmy and Danielle enter the elevator and stand silently.

                       JIMMY
What are you afraid of?

                       DANIELLE
I guess you could say I'm afraid
of death.

                       JIMMY
That doesn't count. Everyone's
afraid of dying. If they weren't
their already dead or their lying
to you.

                       DANIELLE
I don't mean the process of dying,
really. It's more of the following
days after I've died.

                       JIMMY
What's to worry about when your
already dead?

Jimmy chuckles.

                       DANIELLE
I will die and all the people that
i've ever known will, someday, die
as well. There will be no
resonance of me ever existing. I
would've held no significance at
all.

Jimmy's face sinks.

                       JIMMY
I've never thought of it that way.
It's oddly depressing.

                       DANIELLE
No, not really. You just hope for
the day to come where you do
something extraordinary and become
remembered forever. Like
Christopher Columbus or Jesus.

Jimmy stares at Danielle.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
Okay, maybe not Jesus, but
discovering a new land would
pretty sequential.

The elevator door opens.

INT. JIMMY'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Jimmy and Danielle are sitting on the floor of the family
room drenched. There is only a sole light in the house,
which is being ommitted from Jimmy's desk light. Danielle
shivers and grabs a blanket from the couch and covers Jimmy
and herself.

                       DANIELLE
It's freezing.

                       JIMMY
The furnace will come on soon.

Suddenly, the furnace turns on. Jimmy and Danielle are
silent, but suddenly Jimmy chuckles.

                       DANIELLE
What?

                       JIMMY
Nothing.

                       DANIELLE
What is it?

                       JIMMY
I just thought of something,
forget it.

                       DANIELLE
Tell me.

                       JIMMY
It's stupid.

Danielle becomes quiet.

                       JIMMY
When I was little. I mean like
when I was really young like six
years old. I was in love with this
girl.

                       DANIELLE
You were what?

                       JIMMY
I was in love with Shaye
Wilkinson.

                       DANIELLE
Shaye Wilkinson?

                       JIMMY
She was the prettiest girl in
grade one. She and I did
everything together. We shared our
lunches, we played at the park and
in the sand. We were kids.
(beat)
One day, I decided for some
reason, and my mom still gives me
shit for this. I took a ring from
my mother's jewellery box.The next

                       JIMMY (cont'd)
day I gave the ring to her at
third period recess. I slid it on
her hand and everything, except I
had to put it on her thumb because
her fingers were too small.

                       DANIELLE
And then what?

                       JIMMY
Well, the next day I guess she
thought it was time for a break
and she left me for the kid that
had the new yoyo.

                       DANIELLE
A yoyo?

                       JIMMY
We were just kids. I guess at the
time a circular peice of shiny
plastic with a string attached to
it was more important then if
someone actually cared for you.
(turns away from Danielle)
And that was the first time I had
my heart broken.

                       DANIELLE
You're heart was broken because
she left you for someone else?

                       JIMMY
She never gave the ring back.

                       DANIELLE
I see.

                       JIMMY
I told you it was stupid.

                       DANIELLE
It wasn't stupid. You were young
and you were in love. There is
nothing stupid about getting
you're heart broken.
(beat)
The sad thing is that it's almost
like a practiced ritual when you
fall in love with someone. It's
probably happening at this very
moment, right now. Everyone gets
their heart broken and there is no
way you can prevent it from
happening.
(beat)
Someone, someday is going to let
you down.

Danielle becomes silent.

                       JIMMY
What about you?

62.

                       DANIELLE
I've had my heart broken.

                       JIMMY
When?

Danielle looks away.

                       DANIELLE
When my brother died.

Jimmy falls silent.

                       DANIELLE
My older brother Brian. He always
protected me. The thing is Brian
had leukemia. It didn't seem that
bad to begin with, but he started
getting worse and worse. He became
really sick. No one was able to
help him anymore.
(sniffles)
He was going to die. There was
nothing I could do. Nothing I
could say.I was going to have my
heart broken one way or another.

Danielle begins to tear up.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
It was so hard to let someone into
you're heart like that and to
watch them helplessly
self-destruct.
(places her hands over her eyes)
I think my innocence diminished
within a few days. I've been
struggling to find it again.

Danielle begins to cry. Jimmy gently grasps Danielle's face
and wipes her tears off softly. Danielle and Jimmy console
one another and suddenly Jimmy attempts to akwardly kiss
Danielle, but she moves her face away.

                       DANIELLE
What the hell was that? You can't
just do that?

                       JIMMY
What?

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
      (angrily)
I have to go.

                       JIMMY
Why?

                       DANIELLE
      (hastily)
Because I fucking do.

Danielle grabs a few things and goes to the door.

                       JIMMY (cont.)

Danielle leaves the apartment. Jimmy sighs and walks toward
the window. He stares down in the parking lot and watches as
Danielle hops onto her Vespa and rides off. Jimmy sits next
to the furnace.

INT. JIMMY'S APARTMENT - DAY

As Jimmy pours a bowl of alphabets into a cereal, we notice
Frank speaking on the phone, surrounded by piles of papers.
As Jimmy glances at the bowl, the word LOSER is spelt out.
Jimmy quickly eats a small scoop of the cereal, ridding the
word.

                       FRANK
Hi, is this Sarah?

Jimmy stares at Frank.

                       FRANK (cont.)
Okay, great. I was the broker that
came to your house the other day.

Jimmy and Frank share gazes. Jimmy is confused.

                       FRANK (cont.)
Alright, I'm just letting you know
that my employees and I have held
a draw from our prospective
buyers. You have happened to win
from over thr- five thousand
people.
(looks over scribbled piece of
paper)
You won't believe it i'm looking
over the list right now. A cruise
to the Bahamas, a car, a life
supply of...things. Oh yeah, I
know. It's almost unbelievable.

Jimmy chuckles. Jimmy then begins to look through a swarm of
catalogues and papers on the kitchen table. Suddenly, he
notices several letters assigned to a STAN WOOLNER.

                       JIMMY
Who's Stan Woolner?

                       FRANK
Okay, just a second Sarah my
secretary needs me.
(turns to Jimmy)
What?

                       JIMMY
      (holds up mail)
Who's Stan Woolner?

                       FRANK
Oh, the letters? Yeah, I guess
they still think he lives here.
I've been meaning to do something
about that. It's been clogging up

our mailbox for a while.

Jimmy opens the letter, which seems to be sent from a
JESSICA WAYWORTH. As Jimmy glances at the letter we notice a
few sentences; STAN, I'M SORRY. MAYBE IT WASN'T THE RIGHT
TIME TO TELL YOU. I COULDN'T GO THROUGH WITH THE ABORTION.
I'M DOING GREAT WITH THE CHILD. YOU SHOULD COME AND VISIT.
TIMMY'S FIRST WORD WAS "DADDA". Jimmy closes the letter and
seems to fall silent.

                       FRANK (cont.)
Sorry, about that. My secretary
had a payroll question.
(beat)
Sure, will have it sent to you
after we rough out a few edges.
All we need know is if you're
going to sign on.
(beat)
Sarah, come on. This is foolproof.
This is a gift. If my boss knew I
was providing this too you it
would be my job.

INT. JIMMY'S APARTMENT - JIMMY'S DESK - DAY

Jimmy sits infront of a crisp, clean paper as he glares at
the letter to Stan. Jimmy, grasps a pen and boldly writes on
the paper. STAN DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE. Suddenly, Jimmy
stares back at Stan's letter, which seems to display a stale
tear mark on the end of it, wiping out the ink on part of
the signature. Jimmy quickly scribbles SORRY, next to his
statement.

As Jimmy folds the paper and envelope, he turns to the box
with STAMPS written on it roughly. Jimmy, opens the box
which seems to be empty. As Jimmy sighs, he grabs the letter
and places in his pocket. Jimmy then walks towards the
closet fetching his jacket. Frank notices and stalls his
conversation on the phone.

                       FRANK
Before you go, do you think you
can do something for me?

                       JIMMY
What?

                       FRANK
I don't want to impose.
(pause)
I'm going to need you to score
some weed for me.

                       JIMMY
You want me to score you weed?

                       FRANK
Yes. Not alot.

65.

                       JIMMY
Sorry, i'm not involved with drug
dealers.

                       FRANK
Where are you going then?

                       JIMMY
I ran out of stamps
(pause)
and it's our mother's birthday
today.

                       FRANK
I'm surprised she's still alive.
If she is going to ask about me
tell her i'm on a business trip.
(pause)
Singapore or something in that
vicinity.

                       JIMMY
Alright.

Frank continues on the phone.

                       FRANK
Oh! Well you want to talk to my
boss? Just a second.
(to Jimmy)
Jimmy I need you. Just say you
like the way the enterprise is
going and..

Jimmy leaves the apartment.

                       FRANK
Okay, Larry? Yeah, my boss just
stepped out of his fucking office.

INT. STORE - DAY

Jimmy is standing in line in the convenience store. Jimmy
reaches the cashier who happens to be a very dark, stocky
european man.

                       JIMMY
Hi, can I buy some stamps?

                       CASHIER
We sold all out yesterday.

                       JIMMY
You sold out?

                       CASHIER
Yes.

                       JIMMY
Of stamps?

                       CASHIER
Yeah.

66.

                       JIMMY
Well, are you going to get anymore
today?

                       CASHIER
Not that I know of.

                       JIMMY
Well, maybe there are a few back
there or something.

                       CASHIER
No.

                       JIMMY
Well, what am I going to do? I
have to mail something out today.

                       CASHIER
Go to the post office.

                       JIMMY
Do you realize that it's all away
across town?

                       CASHIER
That's not my problem.

                       JIMMY
It should be. You know that big
sign infront of your store that
states convinience. Your
contradicting yourself.

                       CASHIER
Contra who?

                       JIMMY
      (sarcastically)
Okay, thanks. You've been real
convinient.

                       CASHIER
Eh, I don't need any of that
sarcasim.

Jimmy walks out of the store.

INT. OUTSIDE DANIELLE'S HOUSE - DAY

Jimmy walks up Danielle's stairs and stalls at the door.
Jimmy hesitates to knock for a moment then knocks. Danielle
awnsers the door.

                       JIMMY
Hi.

                       DANIELLE
Hi.

Jimmy and Danielle become awkwardly silent.

                       JIMMY
Do you have any stamps?

                       DANIELLE
Stamps?

                       JIMMY
Yeah, I know.

                       DANIELLE
Just a second. I think I have a
few inside.

Danielle disappears inside, while Jimmy stands on her porch.
Suddenly, Danielle appears from her house with a stamp.
Jimmy holds out his hand, as Danielle places the stamp on
the back of his hand.

                       DANIELLE
I only had one left.

                       JIMMY
Thank you.

Jimmy and Danielle both become silent.

                       JIMMY
I know this is a little awkward
after what happened last night.

                       DANIELLE
A little.

                       JIMMY
I came here to say that i'm sorry.
I didn't me-

                       DANIELLE
You don't have to be sorry. It
didn't mean anything to me.

                       JIMMY
I'm not really doing anything
right now, maybe we could talk?

                       DANIELLE
I don't know, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
I promise I wo-

                       DANIELLE
I'm just...kind've busy.

                       JIMMY
I can wait.

                       DANIELLE
Patrick's going t-

                       JIMMY
He's here now?

68.

                       DANIELLE
No, but he will be soon.

                       JIMMY
Oh..

Jimmy and Danielle both become silent.

                       JIMMY
I was going to visit my mother.
It's her birthday today.

                       DANIELLE
      (looks down the
       road)
I still see you have your Vespa.

                       JIMMY
Yes.

                       DANIELLE
Mine broke half way.

                       JIMMY
I'm sorry to hear that.

                       DANIELLE
I'm sure you'res will too
(attempts to close door)
Tell her I said happy birthday.

                       JIMMY
Alright, goodbye.

Jimmy begins to walk away. Danielle closes the door and
retreats back into her house. Suddenly, Jimmy stalls and
turns back to her house. There is a sense of sadness on his
face. Jimmy notices a car pull up to her house. It's Patrick
and he has brought her flowers. Jimmy turns on his vespa and
drives off.

INT. HOSPITAL- RECREATIONAL HALL - DAY

Jimmy enters the rec hall of the hospital. There are several
amount of elderly people huddled around a television, some
are playing ping pong and some are reading. Jimmy notices
Stacy sitting by herself gazing out through a large open
window. Jimmy is carrying a birthday card and wrapped muffin
for stacy's birthday. Jimmy approaces Stacy.

                       JIMMY
Happy birthday.

                       STACY
Birthdays are over-rated.

                       JIMMY
I brought you a few things.

Jimmy hands the card over and on the cover reads TO THE BEST
MOTHER IN THE WORLD. Stacy grins and places the card down.

69.

                       JIMMY (cont.)
I thought there was some
significance that today you were
conceived.

                       STACY
Please, don't remind me.

                       JIMMY
I also got you a muffin. They
didn't have anymore cake.

Jimmy displays the muffin while Stacy glances towards it.

                       STACY
You know I can't eat this. My
blood sugar is high.

                       JIMMY
It's from Frank and I.

Stacy glances back at the muffin. She places it next to her.

                       STACY
I guess i'll have some later.

                       JIMMY
Frank is in Singapore.

                       STACY
What the hell is he doing in
Singapore?

                       JIMMY
      (hesitantly)
I don't know
(looks around room)
Why don't you go talk with some of
your friends? They seem like their
having fun.

                       STACY
Please Jimmy, friends? Half these
people here are mentally retarded.
Besides, I find nature much more
exilerating.

Stacy quietly stares out through the window. Jimmy begins to
look around the hall and notices the other patients smiling
as they enjoy themselves.

                       STACY
You see that leaf out there on
that absent tree?

Jimmy turns to the window and can't see the tree.

                       JIMMY
No.

70.

                       STACY
That one, right there.
(points outside)
Over by the garlands.

Jimmy notices the tree. The tree seems to be bare except for
a single leaf that is hanging on to the tree, which is
being blown by the wind. Jimmy is hyptnotized by the leaf.

                       STACY
I don't understand. Why do you
think it is so adamant to stay
with the tree? When the rest of
them haven either fallen off or
been blown away by the wind.

                       JIMMY
Maybe the tree doesn't want to let
it go.

                       STACY
Why? It left all the other ones
go. It will grow back.

                       JIMMY
It may feel desolate, through the
winter. Maybe it will have
something to show for if it could
keep one. Even if it is just one.

                       STACY
That's rediculous.

                       JIMMY
Or maybe the tree wants to let it
go, but it's not ready to let go.

                       STACY
It won't last through the winter.

                       JIMMY
They won't without each other.

Suddenly, we notice the leaf fall from the tree. Jimmy
almost displays a face of dissapointment.

                       STACY
But then again. They are trees.

Jimmy and Stacy share a glance. Suddenly, the nurse enters
the hall.

                       NURSE
Okay, folks! Rec time is over! Were
going to need you to return to
your rooms!

One of the male nurses begins to push Stacy's wheelchair.
Jimmy is still sitting next to the window.

                       STACY
Thank's for the card.

71.

Stacy is driven off from the rec room. Jimmy continues to
stare from the window.

EXT. OUTSIDE STREET - DAY

Jimmy drives slowly down the road on his Vespa. Suddenly,
the MOTOR BURSTS IN FLAMES causing Jimmy to swerve to the
side of the road. Jimmy gets off the bike and kicks it a few
times.

Jimmy roles his eyes and continues to walk down the street.

INT. JIMMY'S APARTMENT - ELEVATOR - DAY

Jimmy enters the apartment building and presses for the
elevator. The elevator opens and Jimmy stands inside. He
notices his neighbour a young full haired charismatic man
named DAVE. DAVE hurries to catch the elevator. Jimmy
pretends that hes going to press the hold door button
because he doesn't want him inside the elevator. The door is
closing when suddenly Dave holds the door back and gets
inside.

                       DAVE
Almost missed that, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Yeah, they should really fix these
buttons.

There is silence between them.

                       DAVE
Are you coming back from work?

                       JIMMY
No.

                       DAVE
Yeah, well I was just coming back
from the mall. It's a zoo in
there. I mean there really pushing
back this Christmas rush. I was
shopping for little Michael's
sixth birthday.

Dave smiles.

                       DAVE (cont.)
You should see what I got him.

Jimmy turns to Dave.

                       DAVE
A unicycle.

                       JIMMY
Nice, Dave. Are you hoping for
your son to become a clown?

72.

                       DAVE
      (laughingly)
Yeah.

The elevator doors open and they begin to walk down the
hallway. Jimmy stops at his door.

                       JIMMY
I'll see you around, Dave.

                       DAVE
Yeah, oh hey! If your not doing
anything this Monday you and
Danielle should stop by for
Micheal's birthday.

                       JIMMY
I'd love to Dave, but I really
feel a sickness coming on in the
next few days, probably a fever.

                       DAVE
Okay, well if you feel better you
know where to come.

                       JIMMY
I'll be the first one there.

Jimmy enters his apartment.

INT. BILL'S OFFICE - DAY

Jimmy sits still as Bill writes drastically in Jimmy's file.
Jimmy notices a picture frame hung next to a near by window.
It is a young Bill and a very pretty woman with flowing
blonde hair.

                       JIMMY
Is that your wife, Bill?

Bill stops his writing and stares at the nearby picture.

                       BILL
Yes, uhhm well
(silent)
She was before.

Jimmy feels embarrased and upset.

                       JIMMY
I'm sorry.

                       BILL
She's not dead, Jimmy. Were
divorced. I'm just dead to her.

Bill grins. Bill begins to write again.

                       JIMMY
How did it end?

73.

                       BILL
I just finished school that year
and she was a writer. We were
both Ohio natives. We married
young and like every other naive
couple we were struggling to keep
our heads above water.

Bill stops to write and looks up at Jimmy.

                       BILL
I had a placment. I had no choice,
but to move out here and she
was to follow soon after, but
ofcourse she never came. A few
days later she called to inform me
that she was never going to come.
Soon after that the divorce papers
arrived.
(stares away from Jimmy)
I've been living here ever since,
happily ever after.

Bill smiles and begins to write again, but suddenly stalls
again.

                       BILL (cont.)
The straingest part is that I
always waited for her to tell me
something or anyone for that
matter.

                       JIMMY
Like what?

                       BILL
      (angirly)
Something, to console me. To say
it's okay. All I got was a goodbye
and goodluck like I was on a
gameshow and I lost on the million
dollar question.

Bill becomes silent and smiles.

                       BILL (cont.)
I apologise, Jimmy. I
occasionnally tend to vent.

                       JIMMY
Can I ask you why you still have
her picture up?

                       BILL
Well, I could lie to you and tell
you that i'm too lazy to take it
down or that I still have feelings
for her, but in all honestly I
really have no idea.

Bill stares at it with Jimmy.

74.

                       BILL
You'll be surprised, Jimmy. The
things that gain substance when
your in despair.

                       JIMMY
Yeah.

                       BILL
Are you married, Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
No, im not married.

                       BILL
It's better that way, Jimmy.
When you make a commitment to
someone else. You're own self
ambitions are lost in the seams.
(stares desperately at Jimmy)
Relationships are mello-dramatic
at their best. That's not a real
nourishing environment for the
heart. It begins to deppreciate.
(stares away from Jimmy)
Your young, Jimmy. Enjoy the days
you have where the heart is
invincible, but ill tell you. It
doesn't last very long.

Jimmy ponders the statment by Bill.

                       JIMMY
I have a friend. A really good one
who happens to be a girl.

                       BILL
What's her name?

                       JIMMY
Danielle.

                       BILL
When you tell me that you're best
friend happens to be a girl. It
seems to me at your age. That you
and her are at a juncture. In a
way it's societies no man's land.

                       JIMMY
I've known her for a long time.

                       BILL
Do you plan on knowing her
forever?

Jimmy ponders again.

                       JIMMY
Forever? Well, forever, is a long
time. Maybe, twenty more years
give or take.

75.

                       BILL
Do you think she feels the same
way?

                       JIMMY
I don't know
(sighs)
I don't think so.

Bill attempts to utter something, but quickly reverts to his
file. Jimmy, glances again at the picture of Bill's previous
wife hanging over-top of him.

INT. MICRO PRECISION. - NIGHT

The office is pitch black, which are aligned with two rows
of desks. Suddenly, a light turns on and off at one of the
further desks. The light turns off and turns on. It is
continuously going on and off. Jimmy is sitting lonely and
bored at his desk switching the light on and off. Jimmy
stands and looks out the window. He stares at his
reflection. He seems quite depressed.

EXT. STREET - NIGHT

Jimmy is walking quietly down the street. As he attempts to
walk down the crosswalk, the DON'T WALK sign quickly
signals. Jimmy stalls on the crosswalk as a few people walk
by him quickly to the other side. Jimmy stalls in the middle
of the cross walk. He shuffles forwards and backwards when
suddenly a car appears, BEEPING it's horn. Jimmy quickly
runs back.

Jimmy continues to walk down the street randomly staring at
the windows within the shop. Suddenly, he notices Danielle
and Patrick sitting down drinking coffee next to the front
window. Jimmy stalls and stares at them laughing and having
a good time.

Jimmy attempts to knock on the window, but they do not
notice him. He places his hand down and begins to walk down
the street. Jimmy quickly appears back at the window and
knocks. Danielle and Patrick stare at Jimmy. Jimmy waves his
hand. Danielle hurries from the booth outside. Jimmy and
Patrick stare at each other. Danielle exits the store.

                       DANIELLE
Jimmy, what are you doing out
here?

                       JIMMY
I was walking.
(looks down street)
I was just coming back from work.

                       DANIELLE
Work?

                       JIMMY
Yeah.

76.

                       DANIELLE
It's sunday.

                       JIMMY
You're point?

                       DANIELLE
You don't work on Sunday's, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
My boss is the anti-christ.

Danielle looks at Jimmy with sympathy. She suddenly, rubs
her shoulders from the cold.

                       DANIELLE
How about you come inside?

                       JIMMY
No, I'm kind've tired. I'm just
going to go home.

                       DANIELLE
I was going to call. I was just
taking a breather, but please just
come in.

                       JIMMY
Apparently, I smother you now.

                       DANIELLE
      (quietly)
It's not what you think.

                       JIMMY
Of course not. It's never what I
think it is.

                       DANIELLE
He's just a friend.

                       JIMMY
      (hastily)
I know.

                       DANIELLE
Whats wrong? I mean ever since
you've been to your so called
counselling meetings, you've come
out much more dejected.

                       JIMMY
Okay, yeah i'm dejected. Remember
when you ran for the hills like I
was a fucking stranger. I mean
your weird too.
(sighs)
Who knew I would be beat out by a
highschool drop-out.

                       DANIELLE
He's an actor.

77.

                       JIMMY
He's a movie store mascot. Your
process of avoiding me because
what I did might have been
awkward, is really screwed up.

Jimmy begins to walk away. Danielle glares at Jimmy as he
walks past her.

                       DANIELLE
Why did you knock on the window?

Jimmy turns to Danielle.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
If you were just looking to reject
me. Then, why did you knock on the
window?

                       JIMMY
I just want to go home, Danielle.

                       DANIELLE
If you really wanted to go home
you would of been home by now.

                       JIMMY
You looked like you were having a
good time. I just thought I
should've addressed myself.
(quietly)
I'll see you whenever I can, okay.

Jimmy nods and continues to walk away from Danielle. Jimmy
approaches his bus when it begins to drive off. Jimmy
frantically knocks on the side door. The side door opens and
Jimmy enters.

Patrick knocks at the window. He seems to be signaling for
another cup of coffee. Danielle slowly enters the store.

INT. JIMMY'S BEDROOM - DAY

Jimmy quietly awakes in his bed, lying completely still
within his sheets. He blinks his eyelids as he stares upon
the clock which displays 7:32 am. Jimmy turns his head and
shuts his eyes in thought.

cut: Jimmy is on the phone.

                       JIMMY
No, it's not a tumor. No, I'm just
not going to be into work I have a
cold.
(pause)
I'm not quitting. Yes, I know. I
won't be in tommorow either.
(pause)
Yes, it's a forty-eight hour
thing.

78.

cut: Jimmy sits quietly on his couch when suddenly a bright
yellow paper is slid under the door. Jimmy approaches the
door and notices that it is a FLYER for a fair that will be
in town. Jimmy notices a small ad, displaying a blonde
haired woman with a magic ball, underneath a caption of THE
AMAZING TAROT READER.

INT. PARK - DAY

Jimmy is walking through the park, which is populated with
families and children due to some gathering. There are
plenty of stands within the park. Suddenly, Jimmy halts and
notices the tarot reading booth.

Jimmy approaches the stand and notices a normal looking
woman in her fifties with blonde hair and long fingernails.
She folds her cards and stares up at Jimmy. Jimmy holds out
the flyer and points to the bottom tarot reader ad.

                       JIMMY
Is this you?

                       TAROT READER
Yes, that's me.

Jimmy places his hands in his pocket and reveals a few
bills.

                       JIMMY
Fifteen dollars.

She quickly grabs Jimmy's money.

                       TAROT READER
That will do. Take a seat. Three
questions.

Jimmy slowly takes a seat next to her. Suddenly, she begins
to rapidly fold the cards.

                       TAROT READER
Cut it.

Jimmy cuts the cards and gives it to her. She folds the
cards again and cuts it herself. She places three cards face
up. Jimmy looks at the cards in anticipation, while the
tarot reader becomes silent starring at the cards.

                       JIMMY
I've never really done this
before.

                       TAROT READER
Neither have I.

                       JIMMY
Exuse me?

                       TAROT READER
It's a joke.

79.

                       JIMMY
Oh-
(stares towards the cards)
So, what do you see?

                       TAROT READER
I don't know, it takes a moment.

The tarot reader straightens a few cards.

                       JIMMY
Will I be, in any some what,
wealthy financial position?

                       TAROT READER
Probably not.

                       JIMMY
What kind've anwser is that?

                       TAROT READER
      (sighs)
Okay, fine.
(sarcastically shuffles the cards)
The gods are telling me that
theres no chance in hell.

                       JIMMY
So, you talk to like spirtual gods
of some sort? In some aleranate
type of universe?

                       TAROT READER
Something like that.

                       JIMMY
I was wondering. I have a small
family, I know that and I'm not
really close to them. Do you see
us, ever being happy?

The tarot reader stares commandingly into the cards.

                       TAROT READER
There is a strong sense of
disfunction and uhhm, repulsion.
I'm not sure if you knew.

                       JIMMY
Yeah, I'm already kind've aware of
that. I was just wondering if it
would ever stop.

                       TAROT READER
It's kind've a hard thing to stop
and in your case your family is
kind've adament in keeping it that
way. I wouldn't think your really
missing out on anything. I ran
away when I was sixteen and now
i'm awesome.

80.

                       JIMMY
      (looks down)
Uhhm. Is there anything to look
forward to?

The tarot reader sighs.

                       TAROT READER
The death card seems to worry me.

                       JIMMY
My mother is really sick right
now.

                       TAROT READER
I don't think it involves your
mother.

                       JIMMY
I'm sorry?

                       TAROT READER
I think you're going to die.

                       JIMMY
      (sighs)
Well, that's something to look
forward to.

                       TAROT READER
It must just be a bad reading.

Jimmy sighs as the tarot reader seems confused.

                       JIMMY
If this is true. Is there ways I
can change the outcome of the
future?

                       TAROT READER
Sure.

                       JIMMY
Okay, thank you.

Jimmy stands up to leave.

                       TAROT READER
Tell you're friends.

                       JIMMY
I don't have any.

Jimmy nods to the tarot reader. Jimmy continues to walk down
the park.

INT. VETERINARIAN OFFICE - DAY

Jimmy strolls inside of the veterinarian office. The lobby
is swarming with pets. It is very loud with the pets

81.

scuffling and barking. Jimmy walks towards the secretary.
She seems very busy. Jimmy stands until she takes notice of
him.

                       SECRETARY
Yes?

                       JIMMY
Yeah, hi. I was wondering if
Danielle was in?

                       SECRETARY
Yes, she is.

                       JIMMY
Okay...well can you tell me where
I can find her?

                       SECRETARY
I can't do that.

                       JIMMY
Why not?

                       SECRETARY
I can't just let intruders walk in
here.

                       JIMMY
Intruder?

                       SECRETARY
Yeah, how do I know that you don't
want to cause harm to her.

                       JIMMY
Is there anything about me that
seems threatening to you?

                       SECRETARY
They tell us to look out for the
un-suspisous ones.

                       JIMMY
I'm a friend of hers.

                       SECRETARY
And your name is?

                       JIMMY
Jimmy. My name is Jimmy Stewart.

                       SECRETARY
Sounds made up if you ask me.
(stares at Jimmy)
But alright.
(points down hallway)
Third room on your left.

Jimmy nods and continues down the hallway.

INT. VETERINARIAN OFFICE - ROOM 3 - DAY

Jimmy enters the room and notices Danielle roughly combing
through a small terrier. Jimmy stands at the door behind
her.

                       JIMMY
Hi.

                       DANIELLE
Jimmy, Hi. What are you doing
here?

                       JIMMY
      (stares at terrier)
Don't most shed when they become
dismayed.

Stares back at terrier, then down to her feet.

                       DANIELLE
Most would think it's a myth, but
it's true.

                       JIMMY
I was planning on calling sick
for a couple of days. I woke
up alittle addled this morning.

                       DANIELLE
Don't we all.

                       JIMMY
I think you should move in with
me.

                       DANIELLE
What makes you think that?

                       JIMMY
I've rendered the fact that my
life kind've fucking sucks right
now an-

                       DANIELLE
Don't waist my time, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
      (sighs)
I'm serious.

Jimmy falls silent as Danielle checks the puppy's paws.

                       DANIELLE
      (condesending)
Really? What about Frank?

                       JIMMY
What about Frank?

                       DANIELLE
What about you're brother? Where
is he going to live?

83.

                       JIMMY
I haven't figured that out yet.
It's kind've a surprise for him
too.

                       DANIELLE
You can't just abandon him. He
needs you.

                       JIMMY
You know who Frank is right? The
person who's life is based on one
enitre lie. Half the time he
doesn't even know what day it is,
spending his whole time finding
ways to cheat society and talking
to weirdos on the internet. It's
time for him to grow up now.

                       DANIELLE
Don't you think your being
unreasonable?

                       JIMMY
I'm financially supporting an
aspiring criminal. Please, spare
me the moral points.

                       DANIELLE
You can't throw him out. What
about Frank's priorites?

                       JIMMY
Well, let me tell you alittle
about Frank's priorities. He plans
on conning innoncent, hard-working
bi-standards in hopes of never
establishing a legitemet career.

                       DANIELLE
However wrong and twisted it is.
You still have to support your
only brother.

                       JIMMY
      (quietly sighs)
What do I have to do to make you
head over heals for me?

                       DANIELLE
That's kind've a stretch, don't
you think?

Danielle and Jimmy both become silent.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
I'm getting off work soon. What
about you?

                       JIMMY
I think i'm running on empty.

Jimmy seems upset.

84.

                       DANIELLE
David came by with his snapping
turtle the other day. It's
staying here over night. His son,
Michael is having a birthday party
today.

                       JIMMY
Who are these people?

                       DANIELLE
You're neighbours.

                       JIMMY
I think i'll pass.

                       DANIELLE
Please.

                       JIMMY
What are you to gain from this?

                       DANIELLE
My childhood.

                       JIMMY
You're not missing much.

                       DANIELLE
      (turns to Jimmy)
We won't stay for long.

Jimmy and Danielle both turn their heads from one another.

INT. DAVE'S APARTMENT - DAY

Jimmy and Danielle enter Dave's apartment. The place is
littered with children, who are screaming at the top of
their lungs running around. Dave greets with Jimmy and
Danielle.

                       DAVE
Hey, thank's for coming. Jimmy? I
thought you were going to be sick.

Jimmy turns to Danielle.

                       JIMMY
I thought so too.

                       DAVE
Nice, well the food is on the
table and the drinks are in the
kitchen.

                       DANIELLE
Where's the birthday boy?

85.

                       DAVE
Running around somewhere. I'm sure
you'll catch him.

Dave disappears into the kitchen. Suddenly, Danielle and
Jimmy notice MICHAEL. Michael is a pudgy kid with freckles.
Danielle and Jimmy approach him.

                       DANIELLE
Happy birthday, Michael.

                       MICHAEL
Who are you?

                       DANIELLE
I know you're father.

                       MICHAEL
You're really pretty.

                       DANIELLE
Thank you.

                       JIMMY
Happy Birthday.

                       MICHAEL
And who are you?

                       JIMMY
I'm your neighbour. I've lived
beside you for three years.
You probably don't remember me
since I never leave my apartment
because I kind've don't like the
people that live in this building.

                       MICHAEL
Wait, I know you. My father
think's your retarted.

                       JIMMY
He think's i'm retarted?

                       MICHAEL
Or on drugs. I don't quite
remember. He didn't want me to
tell you.

                       JIMMY
What like retarted-retarded or
autisticly retarted? I mean sure I
can be introverted, but I don't go
around drooling all over-myself.

                       DANIELLE
You're a real idiot, you know
that?

Jimmy seems upset as he stares at Danielle.

                       DAVE
Who wants cake!?

86.

All the children swarm towards the kitchen yelling and
screaming in excitment.

INT. DAVE'S BALCONY - DAY

Jimmy and Danielle are gazing out on the parking lot as the
party goes inside.

                       DANIELLE
This was fun.

                       JIMMY
I can't believe you dragged me to
this.

                       DANIELLE
Remember when you had birthday
parties and all your friends would
come over and you'd have so much
fun.

                       JIMMY
I never had a birthday party. My
mother didn't believe in them.

                       DANIELLE
You should ravel in this then.

                       JIMMY
No, this is unforgivable.

A little child runs on to the balcony and grabs Danielle's
pant leg from behind. Jimmy and Danielle turn around.
Danielle adores the little child.

                       DANIELLE
Look at this little munchkin.

Danielle cuddles the little child. Jimmy is less enthused.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
Say hi to him, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Hello.

Jimmy nods to the child. The child runs back into the
apartment.

                       DANIELLE
Are you hostile or something,
towards little kids?

                       JIMMY
Hostile is a little harsh. I just
can't stand them. So, I'd guess
that's a something.

                       DANIELLE
Why?

87.

                       JIMMY
Well, because in order to talk to
them you have to act like you have
down syndrome. Other then that
fact, they always want something.
They always need something. It's
irritating.

                       DANIELLE
You have lots of issues, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Well, that's kind've erroneous.

Suddenly Dave pops from inside.

                       DAVE
Hey guys you want to come inside?
Were opening up the gifts.

Dave enters back inside. Jimmy ponders over the balcony as
Danielle walks towards the balcony door.

                       DANIELLE
Let's go.

                       JIMMY
Do you think I'd live if I jumped
off this balcony? I think I could.
I might have a sore ankle.

Danielle breifly smirks at Jimmy as they enter back into the
apartment.

INT. OUTSIDE DAVE'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Jimmy and Danielle are leaving the birthday party. Dave is
saying goodbye.

                       DAVE
Thank you so much for coming guys.
I really apprieciated it.

                       JIMMY
That's alright, Dave.

                       DANIELLE
Yeah, it was good.

                       DAVE
Really? Hey, if you two one day
decide to have a kid. Then don't
hesitate to call us, Okay? I'll
see you around.

Jimmy and Danielle stare in awkwardness as Dave shuts the
door. Danielle. attempts to speak.

                       JIMMY
It's okay.

                       DANIELLE
What are you going to do now?

88.

                       JIMMY
Well, I was planning on staying up
all night watching infomercials.
Why? Would you join?

                       DANIELLE
No.

                       JIMMY
So, you just wanted to see how
pathetic I really am?

                       DANIELLE
Basically.

Jimmy nods his head slowly and hides his disappointment with
a smile.

                       JIMMY
I think you're pathetic.

                       DANIELLE
      (angrily)
What's that supposed to mean?

                       JIMMY
      (hesitantly)
Exactly what I meant. That's why I
chose the words.

                       DANIELLE
Tell me why?

                       JIMMY
I gave you a kiss.

                       DANIELLE
You tried to kiss me.

                       JIMMY
I put my lips on your facial
region. To most that's a kiss. So
please don't try to trample that
fact.
(pause)
Just because of some harmless,
random act you retreated, on your
own terms. Your throwing
everything off-kilter because of
this bull-shit emotional chokehold
you have me in. You never used to
do that. Don't just freeze up
because something you didn't
expect happened.

                       DANIELLE
      (angrily)
Just because you're not satisfied
with your life doesn't mean you
can attack mine. You think there's
no meaning in your life and your
confused because you're job sucks?

89.

                       DANIELLE (cont'd)
Your downcast, so you try to make

      (upset)
I don't understand.

                       JIMMY
Were anchors in each others lives.
We only pull ourselves down
together. We all had hope, but
since then it's been dashed.

                       DANIELLE
I wanted to be actress.

92.

                       JIMMY
Now, you're a nurse for pets.
Doesn't it worry you the slightest
bit that I could've held a hand in
deciding you're fate.

                       DANIELLE
I'm satisfied with my career
decisions and what hopes did you
have?

                       JIMMY
The expectation of having
something to look forward to.

                       DANIELLE
That's a delusion.

                       JIMMY
It doesn't make much sense now,
but it will.

                       DANIELLE
      (quietly)
I was hoping we wait it out a
little bit longer and see what

                       DANIELLE
I really don't care, Jimmy. I
anticpate the day when you wake up
and realise the world doesn't
haven't time for the chronically
depressed.

                       JIMMY
Look at us, were thirty years old
and we haven't advanced anywhere
on the scale.

                       DANIELLE
I'm sorry, but my life doesn't
revolute by some imaginary fucking
scale of existence.

Danielle scruffles a few things from her pocket in distress.
She stares back at Jimmy.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)

Doesn't that count for something?

                       JIMMY
Hardly.

Danielle attempts to wipe here tears from her eyes.

                       JIMMY

                       NURSE
I brought books. If you would like
to read something.

                       STACY
Everyday, this place feels more
and more like prison.

                       NURSE
I'm sorry to bother you, Mrs.
Stewart.

                       STACY
Wait!

Stacy grabs her glasses from the side table and places them
on. She notices the ANNE BRONTE book.

                       STACY (cont.)

It's a good read, Mrs.Stewart. I'm
sure you'll like it.

Tell me the events of the last few
of your days, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
None of them were good, so I don't
feel like feeling sorry for
myself.

                       BILL
It's my job to understand.

                       JIMMY
What's the point? How is weeping
in my self pity going to help fix
me? It's much easier to forget it
ever happened.

Bill marks a few things down on the file.

                       JIMMY (cont.)
What do you write in my file
anyways? Do you say how big of a
fuck up I really am and how
there's no way i'm going to get
out of it? Well, I already know
that.

                       BILL
You're hopelessly falling on
sleep, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
I'm what?

100.

                       JIMMY
It's a term I like to use when
someone like yourself slips into
the abyss of a depressed state
and no matter what anybody can do
for you. You believe nothing will
save you.
(beat)
So, you decide ultimately to
hinder the state and barely eak
through any decision that may
effect an outcome in your reality.
(beat)
Your hoping to mentally sleep
through life when anything
unfortunate occurs.
(beat)
I think we've all fallen on sleep
in one point of our lives.

                       JIMMY
But, I'm the only one that
struggles to get out, right?
That's kind've been a pre-curser
of my entire life.

                       BILL
You don't believe that I have
problems?

                       JIMMY
I'm sure you do, but i'm not here
to pay for your problems.

Bill laughs and places his glasses on the table.

                       BILL
I think it's only customary. That
we inflict each other with our own
issues. We can hold each other
with equal liability.

                       JIMMY
What's you're problem?

                       BILL
One of my problems were that I
used to drink.

                       JIMMY
You're a drunk?

                       BILL
I was an alcoholic, yes.
(knocks on oak desk)
Knock on wood.

                       JIMMY
How did you realize that you were
an alcoholic?

                       BILL
I didn't realize it. I was
confronted with it.

101.

                       JIMMY
A Doctor?

                       BILL
An intervention.

Bill chuckles.

                       BILL (cont.)
It made me furious. I tried to
explain to them that they were
crazy. I would only have a few
glasses one day and some days I
would have none. Some days when I
would get angry I would down a few
bottles, oh well.The problem was
that I found too many ways to be
angry to justify those few
bottles.

                       JIMMY
You look good now. Well, I assume
that you look better than before.

                       BILL
I would like to think so.

                       JIMMY
My mother never touched a drop,
but in some way she always found
reasons to be angry at us. Maybe,
If she resorted to the bottle she
wouldn't be in the hospital. She
might have been better off then
she is now.

                       BILL
I doubt it. She would be dead.

                       JIMMY
Being dead is much better then
being in the process of dying.

                       BILL
At least you learn a few things on
the way.

Bill and Jimmy share a laugh.

                       BILL (cont.)
Look, Jimmy. Sure you telling me
all this may not repair you, but
it helps. Not everyone repairs
quickly.

Bill takes out his garbage can and places it on the desk.
Jimmy notices the wine bottle.

                       BILL (cont.)
That took me a week and a half,
but it used to take me a minute
and a half.

Jimmy stares at Bill as he places the bin down.

102.

                       BILL (cont.)
And that's one of my problems.

Bill chuckles as Jimmy seems sympathetic towards Bill.

                       BILL (cont.)
You should get going.

Jimmy gets up and walks out of the room. Bill takes a seat
down and stares at the wine bottle in the garbage can.

INT. JIMMY'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Jimmy enters his apartment. He notices that the number on
his door is crooked. Jimmy continues to play with it, but it
stay's crooked. Jimmy stares around his family room and
approaches the phone. Jimmy presses the phone to hear his
messages.

                       VOICE MESSAGE
You have zero messages.

                       JIMMY
What's new?

Jimmy notices next to the phone the book that he bought " 50
WAYS TO INSPIRE YOURSELF." Jimmy grabs the book and glances
at it.

cut to: Jimmy is sitting down reading the book. Jimmy
notices a quote with in the book stating " In order to be
successful one must gain love. Not lose it". Jimmy sighs and
shuts the book. Jimmy stands up with the book and walks
towards the balcony. Jimmy chucks the book off the balcony.

Jimmy returns to the couch where he continues to sit in
silence. Suddenly, Frank enters the apartment. Frank seems
upset as well as he sits quietly next to Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Where's Krista?

                       FRANK
Oh, yeah...well. That kind've
derailed.

                       JIMMY
Why?

                       FRANK
She felt it was time for her
"Spiritual journey. Expanding her
horizons." I believe she's joining
a cult.

                       JIMMY
Those always turn out good.

                       FRANK
I'm always that last guy before
they "expand their horizons". I
don't need to expand anything. I'm
great as it is.

103.

Jimmy and Frank fall silent.

                       JIMMY
She was a nice girl.

                       FRANK
Yeah, she was.
(pause)
You wouldn't tell by looking at
her, but she was incredible with
schematics.

                       JIMMY
Oh...really. That's interesting.

                       FRANK
I mean I don't even know what the
hell that is, but when she talked
about it. She zoned right in. She
was kind've like rain man, except
for the autism and getting all the
awnsers right.

                       JIMMY
So, she's nothing like rain man.

                       FRANK
Well, yeah..but she zones in.

Jimmy and Frank both become silent.

                       FRANK (cont.)
It's hard to know this now. I'm
probably to careless to realize it
myself, but in all likely hood she
was that one girl for me. Everyone
has one. She's the one that got
away. I was just too stupid to
know it.

                       JIMMY
Why don't you call her?

                       FRANK
She's already on a plane to
Boston.

                       JIMMY
She's on a spiritual journey to
Boston?

                       FRANK (cont.)
Well, she was severly high when
she made that decision.
(pause and stares at Jimmy)
This last little while you've
seemed down yourself.

                       JIMMY
I don't know. I kind've through
Danielle out of my life.

                       FRANK
You were something with her?

104.

                       JIMMY
We were really good friends,
Frank.

                       FRANK
You can't throw friends out of
your life.

                       JIMMY
The really good ones, you can.

                       FRANK
Did she put out?

Jimmy stares at Frank.

                       FRANK (cont,)
Sorry, do you know what we should
do?

                       JIMMY
What?

                       FRANK
Strip club.

                       JIMMY
Alright, well i'm going to go to
bed.

                       FRANK
Come on, Jimmy. Sure you have to
pay, but its a great rebound tool.

Jimmy stands up and walks next to Frank. Jimmy rubs Frank's
shoulder.

                       JIMMY
Goodnight, Frank.

                       FRANK
Suit yourself.

Jimmy leaves to his room. Frank is left sitting on his
couch. Frank's face aswell sinks into lonesomeness.

INT. VETERINARIAN OFFICE - ROOM 24 - DAY

Danielle is checking a kitten. Danielle flips her chart and
sighs heavily. An old Jewish lady sits next to Danielle
watching her kitten. Her name is MRS.SCHNEIDER.

                       DANIELLE
I'm sorry Mrs.Schneider, but
Dr.Salinger has confirmed that it
is suffering from severe liver
failure.

                       MRS.SCHNEIDER
Well, is there some way we can
replace it?

105.

                       DANIELLE
Yes, but I th-

                       MRS.SCHNEIDER
Well, good then.

                       DANIELLE
It will cost more then four times
then what the pet is worth.

Mrs.Schneider sighs and stares at the kitten.

                       MRS.SCHNEIDER
I can't afford that.

                       DANIELLE
There is nothing else we can
really do, but to put it to sleep.

                       MRS.SCHNEIDER
It's the only thing I really ever
had.

                       DANIELLE
I know.

Mrs.Schneider stares around the room to other caged pets.

                       MRS.SCHNEIDER
Is there any which way I may be
idemnified for this loss?

                       DANIELLE
I only really groom pets,
Mrs.Schneider.

Danielle stares at the tag of the kitten. Written on the
collar is PEATIE.

                       MRS.SCHNEIDER
Do you know why I called it
Peatie?

                       DANIELLE
No.

                       MRS.SCHNEIDER
I named it after my husband. He
reminded me of him alot. All he
did all day was watch t.v and eat.
He never noticed when I was or
wasn't at home. He past away a
year ago.

                       DANIELLE
I'm sorry.

                       MRS.SCHNEIDER
Don't worry. You didn't kill him.
He was a heavy drinker.

Mrs.Schneider pets Peatie gently.

106.

                       MRS.SCHNEIDER (cont.)
Do you believe in divine
intervention?

Suddenly, a knock is heard at the door. Danielle turns and
notices Patrick through the glass door window. Danielle
fakes a smile and turns back to Mrs.Schneider.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
God, No.

INT. BILL'S OFFICE - DAY

Jimmy is playing with an ink menagerie, while Bill grabs a
few pieces of paper. Jimmy is amused by the menagerie,
suddenly Bill stares at Jimmy and he briefly smiles aswell.

                       BILL
I'll ask you a few basic questions
today, Jimmy. Nothing challenging.

                       JIMMY
Alright.

Jimmy places the menagerie back on Bill's desk.

                       BILL
Are you ready?

                       JIMMY
Sure.

                       BILL
Ten years ago, is this where you
thought you would end up? Is this
where you saw yourself?

Jimmy takes a moment to sink in the question.

                       JIMMY
Sometimes, I wake up and I think
to myself. Is this it? Is this
what I worked my whole life to
become?
(beat)
A thirty year old with no
direction, who works at a dead end
accounting firm which holds no
purpose to society. Who
financially supports his brother
who will most likely become an
enemy of the state within the next
few years. Also, pondering female
relationships that might not have
been relations in the first place.
(pause)
So, no. Not ideally.

                       BILL
You seem to be down on your luck,
lately.

107.

                       JIMMY
I didn't even mention my mother.

                       BILL
You're mother. How has that been?
Have you found a way to become
closer to her?

                       JIMMY
I've tried, but she likes to keep
a healthy distance between
individuals.

                       BILL
What else do you know about your
father other then the fact that he
was crushed by an all-terrain war
vehicle?

                       JIMMY
I would say that's the extent of
it.

                       BILL
These unfortunates that you have
had. This reality you have seemed
to set for yourself. You don't
seem to believe that you're
entitled to a normal life.
(beat)
I would like to think you're
mother had a healthy contribution
to that, but maybe the reason why
she phased out your father is
because life would've been a lot
less normal then it already was.

                       JIMMY
I've looked for answers, believe
me.

                       BILL
She's sick, Jimmy. People tend to
divulge more of themselves when
they become vulnerable.

                       JIMMY
What am I supposed to search for?

                       BILL
You sbould search for your mother.
A truth, that she hasn't provided
for you.

Suddenly Bill's secretary interrupts by entering the office.

                       SECRETARY
Sorry to interrupt, but you told
me to advise you when Mr.Connolly
arrived.

                       BILL
Thank you.

108.

The secretary leaves the office.

                       JIMMY
I guess I'm getting cut short.

                       BILL
I'm afraid so, but come when you
like next time. Okay, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Okay.

Jimmy gets up and leaves the office. Bill takes his glasses
off and stretches his neck. He slants next to his window
gazing as Jimmy walks away from the building. Bill smirks.

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - DAY

Jimmy enters quietly with in the room. He notices Stacy
lying on her side. Jimmy stands next to her bed.

                       JIMMY
Hi.

Stacy turns to Jimmy.

                       STACY
Jimmy? You don't visit on
Tuesdays.

                       JIMMY
I know, I just came to ta-

                       STACY
What did you do? Did you do
something wrong?

                       JIMMY
No, look I've been talking to my
counselor lately and-

                       STACY
It was about time. What are you a
drug addict? Where did I go wrong?

                       JIMMY
I'm not a drug addict. It's more
for life purposes.

                       STACY
Life purposes? When you begin to
understand what I'm going through.
Maybe then you should consider
seeking a counselor.

109.

                       JIMMY
He's been telling me to take it
upon myself to understand and
learn a few things. Understand the
truth.

                       STACY
The truth?

                       JIMMY
Yeah.

                       STACY
About what? What are you looking
for?

                       JIMMY
Our family, you and my father.

                       STACY
There's nothing to take it upon
yourself to know. The conclusion
is that were a weird fucking
family.

                       JIMMY
If I knew you were going to
patronize me then i'm probably
woudn't of came.

                       STACY
I love it how everyone tries to
convince you about what the truth
really is. The truth, it's
impossible to ever get there and
if you ever do the truth is
amazing. The truth is beautiful.

                       JIMMY
Some what.

                       STACY
Do you want to know the truth
about that statement? The truth,
is the worst thing your ever going
to hear.

                       JIMMY
Is there anything i've ever done
to you to make you hate me as much
as you do?

                       STACY
Don't be silly.

                       JIMMY
I feel like every time I walk in
here you wish it were the nurse,
or Frank or someone other than me.

110.

Stacy turns away from Jimmy.

                       STACY
No I don't.

                       JIMMY
You won't even look at me.

                       STACY
I'm sorry, Jimmy
(turns into her covers)
But I think it's time for me to go
to bed.

                       JIMMY
See, every time I try to reach out
you crawl back into the covers to
go to bed. It's like you despise
me. You despise that I care for
you the slightest bit.

Stacy ignores Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
I'll always care for you mom, but
with out me. You've already seem
to be forgotten.
(apologetic)
I'm sorry

Stacy becomes quietly upset. Jimmy slowly gets up from his
chair and begins to walk away.

                       STACY
You want the truth?

Jimmy turns back to Stacy.

                       JIMMY
What?

                       STACY
That's what your looking for isn't
it?

Jimmy stands quietly next to his mother.

                       STACY (cont.)
You're father wasn't crushed to
death.

                       JIMMY
Exuse me?

                       STACY
Not a day goes by that I solemnly
wish he did.

                       JIMMY
Where is he? Is he dead?

111.

                       STACY
He could well be. He left after I
gave birth to Frank.

                       JIMMY
I don't understand.

Stacy slowly sighs.

                       STACY
I've never meant to tell you this,
but you came looking for it.

                       JIMMY
So, what does this mean? What is
it that you never meant for me to
know?

                       STACY
Jimmy, It means
(sighs)
You're an illegitimate child,
Jimmy. That's what it means.
(beat)
I know this is hard to believe,
but-
(looks away from Jimmy)
One night after working my late
shift I was taken advantage of by
a man-

                       JIMMY
Didn't they reduce the intake of
your daily tylenol threes?

                       STACY
I was raped. Okay, Jimmy. I was
raped. I never meant for anyone to
know. I found out a few weeks
later that I had become pregnant.
(quietly)
In those days you know I was
basically forced to have you.

                       JIMMY
Your hallucinating.

                       STACY
You've always wondered why I
didn't care for you? The truth is
the reason I can't even look in
your face sometimes is because
your the spinning image of the
same man that has ruined my
goddamn life.

Jimmy's face sinks into the deepest sadness. Jimmy's posture
seems to sink aswell.

day.

Patrick stands beside her.

                       PATRICK
They've been dead for a while now,
Danielle. I think it's time you
threw them out.

it's stem and smells it.

                       GAURD
If you'd like to make one, yes.

                       JIMMY
Can I make it some other day?
(beat)
I'm still not sure what I'm going
            (MORE)

123.

                       JIMMY (cont'd)
to say yet.

                       GAURD
Sure.

The guard departs from the cell. Jimmy turns to his bed and
takes a seat. He is very sad. He lies on the bed to attempt
to sleep, but he is distracted by the writings on the wall
written by the past inmates. Jimmy turns to his side towards
the wall, but notices writings on the wall again. Jimmy
turns again towards the cell and sighs.

                       GAURD
Jimmy, you have a visitor.

Jimmy places his breakfast down and looks to the guard.

two glasses. He sees Frank, but doesn't make an emotion.
Frank picks up the phone.

                       FRANK
Pick up the phone.

                       JIMMY
I can hear you through the glass.

                       FRANK
It looks cooler this way.

Jimmy picks up the phone.

                       FRANK (cont.)
Things are looking up. I'm going
to Seattle today.

                       JIMMY
Okay.

                       FRANK
One question. What's your account
number?

                       JIMMY
      (sighs)
Are you out of your mind?

124.

                       FRANK
These guys aren't reasonable,
Jimmy. I can't show up with
nothing.

Jimmy begins to BANG the glass with his telephone as hard as
possible. Jimmy stalls and stares at Frank.

                       JIMMY
It's all ones.

Jimmy gets up and leaves.

                       FRANK
I'll have you on the street by
lunch time!

The people in visiting room stare at Frank. Frank seems
embarrased and quietly leaves.

INT. JAIL CELL - DAY

Jimmy is sitting on his bed with a paper and pencil. Jimmy
is attempting to write something for Danielle. He is having
writers block. The gaurd appears at Jimmy's cell again.

                       GAURD
Free time!

The guard opens Jimmy's cell.

EXT. JAIL - OUTSIDE - DAY

Jimmy is sitting on the stands in the jail field by himself.
He is still attempting to write, while scribbling a few
things down. The rest of the inmates are playing basketball.
Suddenly, an inmate sits on the stands near Jimmy. He is
older than Jimmy, but seems to be very quiet and kind.

                       INMATE
What did you get in for?

                       JIMMY
I was...
(pause)
I was caught for getting people to
sign on fake, no-risk investing
plans.

                       INMATE
Boiler room?

                       JIMMY
More of a ponzi scheme, but it
doesn't matter. The thing is i'm
innocent.

The inmate chuckles.

                       INMATE
Of course you are.

125.

                       JIMMY
No, my brother started the whole
thing. He would've been thrown in
prison if he took the blame.

                       INMATE
How long are you in for?

                       JIMMY
One more day.

The inmate smiles and notices Jimmy trying to write
something.

                       INMATE
What are you doing?

                       JIMMY
Nothing, really.

                       INMATE
You seem to be writing something.

                       JIMMY
I am.

                       INMATE
Who's it for?

                       JIMMY
A friend.

                       INMATE
Why don't you just call them?

                       JIMMY
I'm going too.

                       INMATE
Then why do you need to write
something down?

                       JIMMY
That's a good point. I'm just not
too sure what I'm going to say,
yet.

                       INMATE
It's a girl isn't it?

                       JIMMY
Yeah, how do you know?

                       INMATE
It's always a girl.

The inmate gets up and turns to Jimmy.

126.

                       INMATE (cont.)
Write what you will, but what you
really mean to say will look
nothing like that you've written
down.

The inmate begins to walk away.

                       JIMMY
Why are you here?

                       INMATE
To get away from my wife.

The inmate smiles and walks away from Jimmy.

INT. JAIL CELL - NIGHT

Jimmy sits at his bed still scribbling and throwing away
paper due to lack of thought. Jimmy sighs, suddenly the
gaurd comes by knocking at the cell.

                       GAURD
Lights out, Jimmy.

The lights go out and Jimmy places the paper down. The cell
is lighten up by the full moon. Jimmy begins to stare at the
writings on the ceiling and the walls. Jimmy notices a quote
written on the wall, which catches his eye: JIMMY WAS HERE.
Jimmy smirks as his eyes becomes glued at the writing on the
wall. He slowly shuts his eyes.

INT. JAIL CELL - DAY

Jimmy sits queitly sribbling on a piece of paper. It seems
to be filled out with entire writing. Jimmy, places the pen
down and stares at the writing.

                       GAURD
Jimmy?

Jimmy stares up towards the cell and notices the gaurd.

                       GAURD (cont.)
There is somebody here to see you.

                       JIMMY
Okay.

INT. JAIL - VISITING AREA - DAY

Jimmy enters the visitor's box and notices Bill sitting. He
gives a wave to Jimmy. Jimmy waves back. Jimmy sits across
from Bill.

                       JIMMY
For some reason I'm not surprised
that your here.

Bill laughs.

127.

                       BILL
How have you been holding up,
Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
I've made a few friends. It's not
all that bad.

                       BILL
That's good.

Bill places on his glasses.

                       BILL (cont.)
I've come here to part with you,
Jimmy. I'm retiring, consider
this our last meeting together.

                       JIMMY
What are you going to do now?

                       BILL
I'm not sure, yet. I've thought
about moving to Haiti and maybe
begin to write.

                       JIMMY
What are you going to write about?

                       BILL
I don't know. I'll write what
comes to mind. I'll probably write
about Haiti.

Jimmy and Bill laugh. They both fall silent.

                       JIMMY
What did I do wrong?

                       BILL
I don't think you did anything
wrong.

Jimmy puts his head down.

                       BILL (cont.)
It's quite obvious we are all
looking for something, Jimmy.
(beat)
We are all naively insane in our
own rites and that's what makes
our futures so uncertain. Were so
worried about knowing what's going
to happen to us next that maybe we
aren't supposed to know. Maybe
just knowing that we are is
enough. When we only look out
infront of us. We miss out on
everything else.
(beat)
From all this time I might not
have learned much from myself, but
            (MORE)

128.

                       BILL (cont'd)
that's okay because I've learned a
few things from you and I thank
you for that.
(beat)
Promise me Jimmy. Whatever you do.
Don't you dare be like me, not for
one second.

Jimmy stares as he is touched by what Bill says. Bill stands
up.

                       BILL (cont.)
I'm taking the chance, Jimmy. I
might make it and I might not, but
it's too late. I've made my
choice.

Jimmy places his head down, while Bill places om his jacket.

                       BILL (cont.)
I can only hope that you can find
a way to take it yourself.
(smiles)
Goodluck, Mr.Stewart.

Bill places down and gives Jimmy the INK MENAGERIE. Bill
turns to walk away as Jimmy's eyes stare at the menagerie.

                       JIMMY
It's okay.

Suddenly, Bill turns back to Jimmy.

                       JIMMY (cont.)
You'll be okay.

Bill, smirks touched by Jimmy's statement. Jimmy is sent
back to his cell. Bill, still stands still and seems to be
close to TEARS.

INT. JAIL CELL - DAY

Jimmy enters his cell and takes a seat on his bed. He seems
to be emotionally drained. He stares at the paper that he
has written, while the ink managarie sits neatly next to it.

INT. BILL'S CAR - DAY

Bill sits in his car quietly. He opens the glove compartment
and grabs a plane ticket. We notice the destination is OHIO.
The place in which his former wife lives. Bill briefly
smiles and turns on the car. Bill drives away.

INT. DANIELLE'S ROOM - DAY

Danielle is in her bed with her eyes glued to her bedroom
ceiling. The phone begins to ring, but she doesn't move. The
awnsering machine turns on.

129.

                       JIMMY (OS)
Danielle?
(beat)
I guess you could say i've been
lonely these last few days and I
guess you could say that's the
reason why I am leaving this
message on your machine, but it's
not, really.
(beat)
You asked me what I was afraid of.
(beat)
My life was never easy to explain.
I mean i've went to people who
have tried to explain it to me and
that still hasn't helped.
(beat)
If I had to tell you what it was
is that it's a lot like those
twilight zone books I had when I
was a child.
(beat)
With the twist and turns and you
were never sure what was reality
and what wasn't. And it always
ended with a man waking up and
realizing it was just a dream.
(beat)
But I still haven't woken up yet.
I don't think I ever will and
that's the stuff that scares me.
(beat)
This may not make any sense at
all, but it sounded better when I
wrote it down.

Danielle seems to show some sympathy, but is still upset.

                       JIMMY
I'm probably in love with you. I
thought you should know that once.

The beep of the machine goes off. Danielle lights a
cigarette.

                       DANIELLE
      (quietly)
That is such a fucking lie.

As she takes a puff of her cigarette, she begins to cough
deeply. As we glance across her darkened walls a distinct
drawing randomly adornes the wall. It's the picture of the
two children that she had bought from the grocery store.
Danielle stares off into the picture.

EXT. OUTSIDE JAIL - DAY

Jimmy stands as the guard peers behind him. Suddenly, in the
distance we notice Frank arrive. Frank drives next to Jimmy
and he enters the car.

130.

                       JIMMY
How was Seattle?

                       FRANK
It's not as fun as I thought it
would be.

                       JIMMY
Neither was jail.

Frank begins to drive. Frank and Jimmy are silent as they
stare at the sunset.

                       FRANK
Is there anywhere you need to be?

                       JIMMY
I would like to see mom. If that's
okay.

EXT. HOSPITAL PARKING LOT. - DAY

Frank turns and parks near the side of the hospital. Jimmy
gets out of the car and shuts the door. He pears into the
car and stares at Frank.

                       FRANK
I'll stay in the car.

Jimmy strolls from the car and enters the hospital. He rides
the elevator eerily motionless.

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - DAY

Jimmy enters the hospital. It is slightly messy with a nurse
cleaning up. Jimmy doesn't know the nurse and she seems to
be new. His mother isn't there.

                       JIMMY
Hi.

                       NURSE
Hello.

                       JIMMY
Do you know where I can find my
mother?

                       NURSE
I wish I knew who your mother was.

                       JIMMY
I'm looking for a Stacy Stewart.

                       NURSE
She's not here anymore.

                       JIMMY
She's not here?

131.

                       NURSE
No.

                       JIMMY
She's not in the building?

                       NURSE
No.

Jimmy looks around.

                       JIMMY
Did she escape?

                       NURSE
      (sadly)
Oh, dear you must be Jimmy
Stewart. Her son?

                       JIMMY
Yes.

                       NURSE
Jimmy, she passed away. We tried
to contact you, but we couldn't
get a hold of you.

Jimmy seems slightly surprised.

                       JIMMY
Oh.

                       NURSE
Four-thirty a.m this morning.

An awkward silence is held between the nurse and Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Did it hurt?

                       NURSE
I wouldn't think so. She took a
whole lot of sleeping pills.

Jimmy is slightly saddened and confused.

                       JIMMY
Where do I go pick her up?

                       NURSE
No, sir. She's been sent to the
Sherwood Morgue. You can make a
visit as soon as you'd like, ask
for coroner Stevenson.

                       JIMMY
Okay.

                       NURSE
If you need anything else, don't
be afraid to ask.

132.

                       JIMMY
No.

                       NURSE
      (apologetic)
Well, okay. I'm sorry Jimmy for
your loss. I trust you can make it
through the day, alright?

                       JIMMY
I'll try.

                       JIMMY

                       JIMMY
Yeah, I should be fine.

                       FRANK
Okay.

                       JIMMY
What about mom? Are we going to
have a funeral?

133.

                       FRANK
I can have something set up in
acouple of days.

                       JIMMY
      (quietly)
Alright.

                       ASIAN MAN
Your Jimmy Stewart, right?

                       ASIAN MAN
This was left at the hospital for

                       DANIELLE
Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
Hello, Danielle.

She is surprised and they become silent.

                       DANIELLE
How have things been?

                       JIMMY
They've been okay.

Danielle senses the sadness as she glances at Jimmy's pale
shade of his face.

                       DANIELLE
Looks like you've seen a ghost.

                       JIMMY
I've seen a few.

                       DANIELLE
Come in.

Jimmy walks in slowly and sits on the bench inside the front
porch cover. Danielle sits beside Jimmy.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
Can you tell me something, Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
Sure.

                       DANIELLE

                       JIMMY
Yeah.

Danielle begins to tear up.

                       DANIELLE
Why do you do this? Why do you go
out of your way to hurt yourself?
(beat)
To hurt me?

                       JIMMY
I guess it's just a phase i'm
going through.

Danielle puts her head down.

                       JIMMY (cont.)
She's dead, Danielle. My mother,
she died yesterday.

                       DANIELLE
I'm sorry, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Me and Frank are holding the
funeral tomorrow. If you'd like to
join us.

                       DANIELLE
Okay, Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
Yeah?

                       DANIELLE
Yeah.

Jimmy looks around the room.

                       JIMMY
What happened to Patrick?

                       DANIELLE
He's flying back to New York.

                       JIMMY
Big role?

                       DANIELLE
He ran out of money. He has to
live with his parents now.

Jimmy slightly chuckles with Danielle.

                       JIMMY
What about you? How have you been
doing?

                       DANIELLE
I've quit smoking.

                       JIMMY
I didn't know you smoked.

137.

                       DANIELLE
Well, I did.

                       JIMMY
Congratulations.

Danielle smiles.

                       DANIELLE
Thanks.

Jimmy sighs as Danielle becomes silent.

                       JIMMY
Can I tell you something Danielle?

                       DANIELLE
Yeah?

                       JIMMY
I tried to kill myself today.

Jimmy breaks down crying. Danielle tears up as well. She
hugs Jimmy as he grabs her hand.

                       JIMMY
      (crying)
I'm sorry.

INT. DANIELLE'S PORCH - NIGHT

Jimmy and Danielle sit quietly as they watch a 50's vintage
TWILIGHT ZONE episode on t.v. Samson appears infront of the
t.v screen and runs towards Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
How's Samson?

                       DANIELLE
He's been sick lately.

Jimmy pets Samson.

                       DANIELLE (cont.)
A lot of us have been in the last
little while, anyways.

                       JIMMY
He'll get better.

Suddenly Samson hurries out of the room. Jimmy watches as he
skips away. He looks at Danielles sadenned face.

                       JIMMY (cont.)
I've always been plagued with
regrets. The difficult part is
having to go back and trying to
make sense of them.

Danielle angles away from Jimmy to show that she is still
angred towards him.

138.

                       JIMMY (cont.)
I've meandered through my thoughts
hoping to find ways on making
things better.
(beat)
I've tried and believe me i've
really tried to convince myself
that it would, but oddly enough
it's been getting worse. Which,
makes me think...and i'm not sure
if i'm remotely right, but maybe I
need to salvage all the people I
have left, so I can prevent myself
from falling any further. I'm a
much healthier person with you
around Danielle. I know that much.

                       DANIELLE
I would think that's right

                       JIMMY
In short, I have no idea where i;m
headed. I'm a complete mess, but
i'm trying to find my way back.

Jimmy lays back and places his head on a slant. Danielle
stares outside. Jimmy and Danielle are both silent.

                       DANIELLE
Me too.

She rests her head next to Jimmy's. They look to the stars.

INT. DANIELLE'S PORCH - NIGHT

seen lying under the bench. Jimmy is still staring up to the
stars. Danielle awakens.

                       DANIELLE
Jimmy?

                       JIMMY
Yes?

Danielle softly yawns and smiles.

                       DANIELLE
Nothing, I just wanted to see if
you were still here.

Jimmy smiles as Danielle yawns softly as she falls to sleep
again.

INT. DANIELLE'S PORCH - DAY

Danielle waits frantically by the door waiting for Frank to
arrive to pick them up to go to the funearal.

139.

                       DANIELLE
Jimmy? Hurry up. Franks going to
be here any minute.

INT. DANIELLE'S WASHROOM - DAY

Jimmy is staring in the mirror, while combing his messy
hair. He looks desperately at the mirror and smiles.
Suddenly, Jimmy reveals a scruffled paper from his pocket.
It is the paper from his medicine cabinet with the writing;
YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE. Jimmy smirks at the paper as he
places it gently against the mirror.

INT. DANIELLE'S PORCH - DAY

Danielle stands waiting for Jimmy. Jimmy appears with his
slicked back hair and has a slightly disheveled wardrobe.
Danielle smiles at Jimmy.

                       JIMMY
How do I look?

Danielle touches his hair and sets it back.

                       DANIELLE
You look like a million.

                       JIMMY
Some how I find a way to believe
you.

Jimmy smiles. Suddenly,a car horn goes off and they notice
Frank has arrived. They walk to the car and get inside. They
drive off down the road.

EXT. GRAVE YARD - DAY

A very traditional funeral is taking place. There are many
people grieving. It is very saddening and depressing scene.
Next to the funeral we notice Jimmy, Danielle and Frank
standing and huddled around a cheaply made tombstone as they
watch the neighbouring funearal ceremony.

                       JIMMY
She must of been a special person.

                       FRANK
Yeah

They look back at the tombstone and notice a wonderful
picture sketched into the tombstone of there mother.

                       FRANK (beat.)
I don't believe mom was ever that
happy. Took a lot of imagination
for the sketcher.

Jimmy chuckles.

140.

                       DANIELLE
I guess that's what she would've
looked like. She looks beautiful.

They all become silent and appreciate the sketch.

                       JIMMY
So, what do we do now?

                       DANIELLE
I guess you can just stand in
silence or you can say something.

                       FRANK
I would like to say something.

Danielle and Jimmy stare at Frank as he pulls out a piece of
paper and unfolds it.

                       FRANK (cont.)
It might not be all that good, but
I don't think she'd really care.
(clears throat)
Mom, you were a great woman and
you loved us with grace. Thanks, I
hope you like heaven more then
this place.

Frank turns to Jimmy and Danielle.

                       FRANK (cont.)
I never meant for it to rhyme.
(pause)
Sincerely, from all of us.

Jimmy and Danielle nod to Frank.

                       JIMMY
Good job, Frank.

                       DANIELLE
Yeah, good job.

                       FRANK
Thank you, it's just something I
came up with on the way over here.

                       DANIELLE
Jimmy? Do you have anything to
say?

Jimmy remains silent.

                       JIMMY
I think i'll just stand in
silence.

Danielle looks at Jimmy. They suddenly become silent as
Jimmy stares dead at the tombstone. Frank and Danielle stand
there in silence as well. Jimmy smiles.

141.

                       FRANK
Well, I'm kind've late for my
interview. Do you guys need a ride
back into town?

                       JIMMY
No thanks, Frank.

                       FRANK
      (quietly)
Alright.

Frank turns to Jimmy and stands close towards him. Frank
gives a slight kiss on Jimmy's cheek. Frank begins to walk
towards his car. As he enters his car he places on a
sambrero with TACO VILLA, written on it. Frank drives off.
Jimmy begins to slowly walk away from Danielle.

                       DANIELLE
Where are you going?

Jimmy halts.

                       JIMMY
I think i'm going to quit my job.

                       DANIELLE
What after that?

                       JIMMY
No where, really. Maybe, go to the
center of the earth. See what it's
like for myself.

Danielle becomes silent.

                       DANIELLE
Can I come?

                       JIMMY
There's no turning back.

Jimmy barely sticks out his hand. Danielle follows behind
and grabs his hand. They smile at each other and continue to
walk down the cemetery field.
