INT. BLANK SCREEN - NIGHT

The credits roll on a black screen. The sound of a pants
zipper zipping up is heard. Sounds of heavy footsteps can be
heard. A door is heard closing. The credits continue to roll
over some pained breathing. The breathing increases over and
on top of all other sounds in this scene. Sounds of a door
opening is heard with lots of little footsteps.

                       GROUP OF GIRLS (V.O.)
Erin! Erin, are you in here? Has
anyone seen Erin? Where's Erin?

The title appears on the screen and the breathing stops as a
tiny voice is heard.

                       LITTLE ERIN (V.O.)
      (quietly)
I'm in here.

EXT. SCHOOL BUS STOP - DAY

Out of a bus window, Erin waves and signals to come towards
her. She winks.

Keith exits the bus. On the grass of the private school,
there are many students talking in groups. There are plenty
of fall-colored trees with leaves of red and gold. The sun
is shining. Some kids are sitting on rocks while others are
getting on the buses.

                       KEITH
Hey, foxy!

                       ERIN
Foxy?

                       KEITH
Yea. Jimi Hendrix? Foxy Lady?
Foxy!

Erin smiles. They kiss.

                       RAY (O.S.)
Get a room, love birds!

Ray and Alex stick their heads out of the bus window. Erin
and Keith stop kissing.

2.

                       ERIN
      (sarcastically)
Thanks, guys.

                       ALEX
Anytime.

Alex and Ray both stare at the word 'Smile' on the chest of
Erin's shirt.

                       ALEX
Sm-Smi-

                       RAY
S.M.I.L.E, smile, smile.

Erin folds her arms over her chest.

                       ERIN
You guys are sick.

Keith starts to get on the bus.

                       KEITH
Hey, you coming?

                       ERIN
Yea, I'll be right there.

Erin looks around until she finds Lily.

                       ERIN
Come on, Lil! Let's go!

Lily runs over to her and they both get on the bus.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY

Sounds of various school children can be heard. As Erin
walks down the aisle of the bus, she pats Ray on the head,
pushes down on Alex's head and messes up Keith's hair. Then
she takes a seat behind them. Lily sits across from her.

                       LILY
      (ecstatic)
I'm so happy! I aced this math
test! I was SO worried about it!

Erin nods but is staring at Keith.

3.

                       LILY
Anyway, are you going to
Christine's? I heard it's going to
be a blast.

Lily notices that Erin isn't listening.

                       LILY
Yea, you know lots of music...
drinking... drugs... sex... some
murder... Even KEITH will be
there.

Erin comes out of her trance.

                       ERIN
What?

                       LILY
Jesus, is that what it takes to
get your attention?

                       ERIN
      (embarrassed)
Sorry. What were you saying?

                       LILY
I was just wondering if you were
going to Christine's party.

                       ERIN
Yeah, I think so. But, Keith sort
of invited me to his house because
his parents aren't gonna be there
this weekend.

                       LILY
Oooh. I see how it is. Choosing
your man over your girls.

                       ERIN
Lil, we've been together over a
month already. Besides, there will
be other parties.

                       LILY
Yeah, I know, Erin. But, come on.

                       ERIN
Please. It's just a dumb party.

4.

                       LILY
Yeah, but it's the fifth "dumb
party" you've missed!

                       ERIN
I know, but-

                       LILY
      (sweetly)
Erin, you go home with him
everyday after school. Don't you
think you could come to one party?
Have some fun with US for a
change?

                       ERIN
I can't just-

                       KEITH
Our stop, Erin!

Erin picks up her bag.

                       ERIN
I gotta go. I'll talk to you
later.

Lily opens her mouth to stop her, but decides against it and
just shakes her head.

EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK - DAY

Keith, Ray, Alex, and Erin get off the bus and start
walking. A group of schoolboys in uniform walk by with a
teacher. There are no girls with them. Ray and Keith laugh.
Keith puts his arm around Erin to make them feel bad. They
all laugh.

                       RAY
Are you guys gonna come up to my
house?

                       ALEX
Are there cookies?

Alex rubs his hands as if plotting something evil.

                       RAY
Um, I think so, but-

                       ALEX
Definitely!

5.

                       KEITH
We're comin'!

They all turn a corner and go into Ray's apartment building.
Music fades out.

INT. RAY'S FOYER - DAY

They all enter Ray's apartment. It is big with many rooms
off to each side. There are huge displays of art on the
walls as well as huge bookshelves full of all sorts of
books. There are also food and water bowls for the cat. Alex
turns and walks into the kitchen. Ray, Keith, and Erin walk
into Ray's room.

                       RAY
I'm home!

                       ERIN
Me too!

Erin laughs.

INT. RAY'S ROOM - DAY

Erin, Ray, and Keith are in a completely white room. There
is a white bed, a white desk, a white computer and a white
window seat. The room is very neat. There are big windows
looking out onto the river as well as some posters of art
done by Monet. Erin is on Ray's bed with her feet on Keith's
lap while Ray is sitting in his desk chair. Alex walks in
with chocolate all over his mouth and a plate of cookies in
his hand.

                       ALEX
      (speaking through
       the chocolate in
       his mouth)
Cookies anyone?

                       RAY
How many cookies did you take out?

                       ALEX
Five... Okay, eight... Ten! Stop
it!

There are four cookies on his plate.

Keith, Ray and Erin laugh.

6.

                       ALEX
      (seriously)
What? Just because I'm fat doesn't
mean-

                       KEITH
Here we go again.

They all laugh.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Out of Erin's window, some birds fly over the setting sun.
Erin is crying on her bed. Her room is blue with posters of
musicians such as Jimi Hendrix. There is a wood desk with a
laptop on it. An old TV sits on a counter next to the
computer. She wipes her tears and gets off her bed. She
picks up the phone and dials.

                       KEITH (O.S.)
Hello?

                       ERIN
Hey, Keith. It's Erin.

                       KEITH (O.S.)
Oh, hey! What are you doing home
on a day like this? I thought you
loved to be outside.

                       ERIN
I do- I just
      (beat)
I got in a fight with my mom.

                       KEITH (O.S.)
Again?

                       ERIN
Shut up.

                       KEITH (O.S.)
Sorry. Need some cheering up?

Erin smiles.

7.

INT. ERIN'S MOM'S ROOM - NIGHT

Erin's mom is sitting on her bed, reading. It is a big room
with plenty of mirrors. The bed is sea-foam green and
matches the walls. Everything is organized and neat. Erin
walks in.

                       ERIN'S MOM
Don't you hate the color on the
walls? I've been wanting to change
it for years but your father
insists on keeping it.
      (beat)
I feel like I'm trapped in
seaweed. Ugh.

                       ERIN
Um, right... Can I go get ice
cream?

                       ERIN'S MOM
Don't you want to talk about-

                       ERIN
Later. Love you!

Erin runs out.

INT. ICE CREAM STORE - NIGHT

Erin and Keith are sitting at the counter, eating ice cream.
They watch as little children go by with different colored
ice cream cones. The kids are laughing as they walk down the
street. Erin takes a bite of her ice cream cup. The moon
comes out from the clouds and hits the counter in front of
Keith and Erin.

                       ERIN
You know, sometimes, I just want
to get up and leave my house. This
month has just been... Well, if I
wasn't with you, I just- I don't
know.

Keith rubs her shoulder.

                       KEITH
Look, I know. You're upset. I'm
sorry. But, come on. Don't let it
ruin ice cream!

Erin smiles. He licks his ice cream cone.

8.

                       KEITH
You should take my parents. They
would probably be easier to deal
with.

                       ERIN
Right, yea...

Erin's smile fades.

INT. ERIN'S FOYER - NIGHT

Erin walks in the door. The walls are wallpapered and plain.
She looks around and notices her dad standing there. He
looks angry as he glances at his watch.

                       ERIN'S DAD
Do you have any idea what time it
is?

Erin looks at the clock.

                       ERIN
It's 8 o' clock.

                       ERIN'S DAD
Yes! You should have been home
hours ago!

                       ERIN
I asked Mom if I could go out for
ice cream.

                       ERIN'S DAD
Well, your mom went out to dinner
and she didn't tell me anything. I
don't even know if I can believe
you.

                       ERIN
That's not fair!

                       ERIN'S DAD
You don't tell me anything. You
have no respect for me.

                       ERIN
But, I told Mom!

                       ERIN'S DAD
No buts, Erin.

9.

                       ERIN
You can call her right now and ask
her!

                       ERIN'S DAD
Until you start respecting me,
you're grounded.

                       ERIN
DAD! THAT'S RIDICULOUS!

                       ERIN'S DAD
You have one week. You go to
school and come home. Nowhere
else, you got me?

                       ERIN
You can't be serious!

                       ERIN'S DAD
One more word and it will be
longer!
      (mumbling)
You're lucky I'm not tough on you.
You know when I was a kid...

Erin runs out of the room.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY

Erin is watching the raindrops fall on the windows. Keith
gets on the bus. He sits down next to her. Erin makes a half
smile but doesn't react much. She continues to watch as the
rain fogs up her view.

                       KEITH
Hey, Foxy. Feeling better?

                       ERIN
Sort of. Mind if I sleep?

Keith pretends to yawn and puts his arm around Erin.

                       KEITH
Sleep away.

Erin rests her head on his shoulder and falls asleep.

Music: Love Pollution by Feeder fades in. The rain continues
to hit the windows as more students get on the bus.

10.

INT. HISTORY CLASS - DAY

Erin is doodling the words "Erin + Keith" in her history
textbook. The teacher is writing "Ancient Greece" with many
topics underneath it on the board. Erin is not paying
attention.

                       HISTORY TEACHER
Each of you will get into groups
of 2 or 3. You will be ASSIGNED
one of these topics to research
and write a 10 page report on.

The class groans.

                       HISTORY TEACHER
The reports will be done
INDIVIDUALLY. Anything under 10
pages will be considered an F. You
have 2 weeks. I'll write your
groups on the board.

Erin's friend, Christine taps her on the shoulder.

                       ERIN
      (whispering)
What?

                       CHRISTINE
      (whispering)
You wanna run in the rain at
lunch?

                       ERIN
      (whispering)
No, I don't want to get sick or
anything.

Christine gives Erin a face.

                       CHRISTINE
      (whispering)
You always want to go out in the
rain.

                       ERIN
      (whispering)
I'm just not in the mood for it,
that's all.

                       CHRISTINE
      (whispering)
Are you okay?

11.

                       HISTORY TEACHER
Ladies! Please, try to keep your
mouths closed. Thank you.

As the History teacher turns back around, Christine turns
back to Erin.

                       ERIN
      (whispering)
I'll talk to you about it later,
okay?

Christine shrugs and taps someone else on the shoulder.
Music fades out.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

The sky through Erin's window is pitch black and her lamp is
on. Erin is at her computer, talking to Ray on-line. The
music fades out.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Can I ask you a question?

A sound is made every time Ray Instant Messages her. What
they write is said in a V.O.

                       RAY (V.O.)
Sure, anything.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Do your parents get mad at you a
lot?

                       RAY (V.O.)
Yea, we're teenagers. It's what
they do.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
I guess Keith isn't a teen then.

                       RAY (V.O.)
What are you talking about?

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Well, he's perfect. His parents
never fight.

                       RAY (V.O.)
I'm sure they do.

12.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
If and when they do, its resolved
within a matter of minutes. I hate
how he doesn't know what I'm going
through.

                       RAY (V.O.)
I know the feeling.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Whatever.

                       RAY (V.O.)
You think I don't know what you're
talking about?

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Yea, I don't think you have a
clue.

                       RAY (V.O.)
Shut up. Your life isn't that bad.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Look, you don't know me that well,
you don't know!

                       RAY (V.O.)
You are open about so much, Erin.
I know how bad it is over there.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
At least I'm open! You never
reveal anything! I don't know a
thing about you, Ray.

                       RAY (V.O.)
There are things people don't know
about me for a reason, Erin. I
choose what I want known about me.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
See? Right there is a perfect
example. I don't even know what
you are talking about.

                       RAY (V.O.)
Erin, go deal with your fucking
parents!

                       ERIN (V.O.)
I don't need this from you.

13.

                       RAY (V.O.)
Yea, that's right. You don't need
anything from me. I'll just stop
being in your horrible life! Okay?
I know what you are feeling! Just
breathe!

                       ERIN (V.O.)
No you don't! YOU DON'T KNOW
ANYTHING!

                       RAY (V.O.)
FINE! GO TELL YOUR FUCKING
BOYFRIEND YOUR PROBLEMS BECAUSE I
DON'T GIVE A SHIT ANYMORE!

                       ERIN (V.O.)
HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND! HE CAN'T
HELP!

Erin realizes what she wrote before she sends it. She erases
the caps and then re-writes it.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
He doesn't understand. He can't
help.

                       RAY (V.O.)
Well...
      (beat)
I understand. I can try to help.

Erin doesn't respond.

                       RAY (V.O.)
Well?

                       ERIN (V.O.)
I have to go to shabbat services.

Erin closes her laptop and realizes that she has been
crying. She wipes her eyes and walks out of her room.

EXT. OUTSIDE OF THE TEMPLE - NIGHT

Families rush in the doors of the synagogue as organ music
starts to play. An orange street light is the only light in
the night sky. A taxi cab drives down the street while a
couple walks on the sidewalk.

14.

INT. SYNAGOGUE - NIGHT

It is a big temple. Erin is sitting with her mother in the
balcony. Erin leans over the edge to see the large amount of
people sitting in the aisles. The rabbi is on the bima with
the cantor. Like her mom, Erin has her prayer book open.
But, she doesn't seem to be paying attention.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Dear God, I pray for my mother, my
father, my boyfriend, Ray. I mean,
Keith. I pray for my boyfriend,
Keith.

INT. RAY'S ROOM - NIGHT

Ray is at his computer, typing. The only light he has on in
his room is his desk lamp. His cat walks in and walks around
Ray's legs.

                       RAY (V.O.)
The molecules in the object are
placed in the Erin. I mean, in the
cells, I mean...

INTERCUT BETWEEN RAY AND ERIN

                       ERIN (V.O.)
It's strange you know. The person
I have been thinking of is the
imperfect. You assume people fall
in love because they find
perfection. How do you find
perfection in imperfection?

Erin's mother turns the page. Erin sees and does the same.

                       RAY
      (to himself)
I'm not gonna get anywhere with
this.

Ray opens a new document on his computer and starts typing.

                       RAY (V.O.)
I am fourteen years old, and I am
infatuated with a girl. This is
not supposed to happen at
fourteen. But, if I am getting a
“purple haze” and I can't get my
mind off of her, then you can’t
tell me that I’m not infatuated.

15.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
What makes me so attracted to him?
Why does imperfection bring me
away from perfection? I guess
that's why God made us all
different. If we were all perfect,
it would be boring. So, I like
exciting, not boring... right?

                       RAY (V.O.)
I'm in a strange situation. I am
infatuated with a girl who is
going out with a close friend of
mine.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
It makes more sense in my mind
than in actuality.

                       RAY (V.O.)
This, I guess, is not a
psychologically healthy
relationship.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Okay. I just have to accept it. I
like Ray. No big deal. I'll just
tell him and-

                       RAY (V.O.)
What to do about Keith?

Erin hits her head.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Shit!

                       RAY (V.O.)
Oh, boy.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
I hate being a Gemini. Always
having to choose. Always being
contradicted.

                       RABBI
We now ask for a moment of silence
to mourn for those who have passed
away in recent weeks.

Erin turns to her mother.

16.

                       ERIN
Why does God hate me?

Erin's mother as well as the people around them all look at
her in disgust.

                       ERIN'S MOM
      (whispering)
Moment of silence means no
talking. Shush!

                       ERIN
      (whispering)
Moment of- Oh. Sorry.

Erin sinks into her seat.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Erin is lying on her bed, throwing a ball up and down when
the phone rings. She runs to the phone and quickly answers
it.

                       ERIN
Hello?

INT. KEITH'S ROOM - NIGHT

Keith is lying on his bed while he talks.

                       KEITH
Hey, foxy.

INTERCUT BETWEEN KEITH AND ERIN

                       ERIN
Oh, hey.

                       KEITH
So, how's God?

                       ERIN
What?

                       KEITH
Well, you just spent 2 hours
talking to him. I figured you
would know how he was.

Erin laughs and then walks over to her laptop to check her
buddy list. When she doesn't see Ray, she sighs.

17.

                       ERIN
Do you know where Ray is by any
chance?

                       KEITH
No, sorry. Why?

                       ERIN
No reason. So, I'll see you
tomorrow. Bye!

Erin hangs up her phone.

Keith looks at the phone and then hangs it up.

                       KEITH
      (mumbling)
Love you too...

Erin looks at her bed and sees Keith sitting on it. He
smiles at her. Let go by Frou Frou plays. She walks to him
and straddles his lap. Erin kisses him. They make out,
passionately. The b.g. spins around them. Finally, Erin
pulls away and smiles. Her smile quickly fades as she
realizes that she is sitting on Ray. Erin gasps and is
horrified. She starts breathing heavily. Ray smiles at her.
Erin catches her breath and attempts to kiss him. He pushes
her away.

                       RAY
I'm not your boyfriend...
      (beat)
Yet.

Music cuts out.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Erin shoots up out of her bed. The room is dark and quiet.
She is sweating and is heavily breathing. Erin rubs her
forehead and squints at the clock. It reads 3:07. Erin
releases a big sigh and lies back down to go to sleep.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY

Erin is walking down the school corridor, alone. Many
students shuffle around her, laughing with friends. Erin
just keeps walking.

18.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
I need help. I don't want to hurt
either of them. But, something has
to be done.

She walks into a classroom.

INT. SCHOOL CLASSROOM - DAY

Lily and Erin are sitting on desks in an empty classroom.
There are bookshelves on the walls and many sets of windows
leading out to the school quad. Erin sees Keith, Alex, and
Ray walking on the path through the windows.

                       ERIN
I'm so confused.

                       LILY
Well, let's make a list.

                       ERIN
Of what?

                       LILY
Things about both Keith and Ray.
Good things.

Erin names the things as scenes of Lily writing them on the
board fade into each other.

                       ERIN
Okay, well. I'll do the basics.
Keith for looks, Ray for brain,
Ray for niceness, Keith for
sweetness, no, Ray. Ray for
understanding me, Ray for funny,
Ray for compliments, Ray for
someone I can't stop thinking
about, Ray for intelligence, Ray
for the artsy kind of guy that I
like and Ray for holding hands...
Is that enough?

                       LILY
Just enough.

                       ERIN
Well? What's the deal?

Lily finishes writing and steps away from the chalkboard.

19.

                       LILY
Take a look.

The board shows 9 good things for Ray and 1 for Keith.

                       LILY
You know what you have to do.
      (beat)
Good luck.

                       ERIN
Shut up.

EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK - DAY

Ray, Keith, Alex, and Erin are walking the same route to
Ray's house. Erin reaches in her bag for her jacket and puts
it on. A leaf falls from a tree.

                       RAY
Are you guys gonna come up?

                       KEITH
Nah, sorry. I have basketball
practice.

                       RAY
Where?

                       KEITH
The Reebok Club.

                       ALEX AND RAY
Oooh!

They all laugh as they stop at Ray's entrance.

                       KEITH
Very funny. We'll see you guys
later.

                       ERIN
We? Oh, actually, I'm gonna stay.

                       KEITH
You are?

                       ERIN
Yeah. I just got un-grounded. I
want to used my freedom.

Keith looks a bit down.

20.

                       ERIN
Is that a problem or something?

                       KEITH
No, of course not. I'll call you
later, okay?

Erin tries to say good-bye, but Keith pulls her in for a
kiss. Erin soon realizes that this is more than a good-bye
kiss and pushes him away. Alex and Ray walk inside.

                       ERIN
      (annoyed)
Okay. Bye.

Erin follows Alex and Ray into the lobby.

INT. RAY'S ROOM - DAY

Ray, Alex, and Erin throw their bags on the floor. Ray sits
at his desk, Erin lies down on the bed and Alex sits on the
window seat, petting the cat.

                       ALEX
Okay, so how far have you and
Keith gone? I mean, you just went
to first right there, so its gotta
be more than that.

Erin doesn't respond and turns her back towards Alex.

                       ALEX
Come on, I am the matchmaker here.

                       RAY
Yes, the SELF-CLAIMED matchmaker.

                       ERIN
We haven't been farther than
making out.

                       RAY
Oh, really?

                       ALEX
Uh huh. Boring. Cookie Time!

Alex runs out. Ray follows him, but retraces his steps when
he realizes Erin isn't coming.

                       RAY
You coming?

21.

                       ERIN
I'm kinda tired.

Ray sticks his hand out for her to grab.

                       RAY
Come on, Erin. You know you want
some.
      (beat)
Cookies, I mean.
      (beat)
Besides, if we don't go now, Alex
will eat them all before we get
there.

Erin smiles and sits up. She grabs Ray's hand and gets off
the bed. She suddenly stops when she realizes that Ray is
holding her hand. Erin lets go and walks past him. Ray
smiles and follows her out.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Erin is on the phone with Keith. She is lying on her bed as
she talks.

INT. KEITH'S ROOM - NIGHT

Keith's room is small and disorganized. There is an un-made
bed with various pieces of clothing on it. He has a huge
desk with so many papers that you can't see the whiteness of
the desk. On the desk is a PC with a printer. Keith sits at
his desk chair as he talks on the phone and is rubbing his
forehead. Music: Cannonball by Damien Rice fades in.

                       KEITH
I just don't understand.

INTERCUT BETWEEN ERIN AND KEITH

                       ERIN
Its not you, its me.

Erin hits her head.

                       ERIN
      (mumbling)
Of all the things to say. Stupid!
Stupid! Stupid!

22.

                       KEITH
We were great. Why are you ending
it?

                       ERIN
No. We weren't great. You were
great. You're perfect.

                       KEITH
So, you're breaking up with me
because...

                       ERIN
It just didn't seem real. Too good
to be true even. I want someone
who I can have good times and bad
times with. Someone who can-
      (sighing)
I'm sorry. I didn't want it to be
like this.

                       KEITH
      (beat)
I guess I understand. I'll be here
if you ever want to come back.
Remember that.

Erin smiles.

                       ERIN
I will.

                       KEITH
Okay, well... I guess I'll see you
in school. Bye.

An Instant Message sound is heard. Erin gets off of her bed
and goes to her computer.

                       RAY (V.O.)
So, you broke it off with Keith?

Erin sits down in her desk chair and begins to Instant
Message Ray.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
News travels fast.

                       RAY (V.O.)
Welcome to the 21st Century. Plus,
when you are always thinking about
someone, you want to know as much
information as possible ASAP.

23.

Erin smiles. Music cuts out.

FADE OUT

INT. THE TABLE - DAY

Erin, Keith, Ray, and Alex are sitting on and around a
table. There is a staircase behind it. The light hits the
stairs from the floor above. Next to the table are doors
leading outside.

                       ALEX
So, are you still going to be a
walking buddy?

                       ERIN
Well, yea. You guys are my
friends. I'm not gonna ditch you.

                       ALEX
You mean like you ditched him?

                       KEITH
Alex, shut up.

Ray looks at his watch.

                       RAY
Well, I'm gonna get to class.

                       ERIN
Yea, me too.

Ray and Erin grab their bags and walk out. Alex and Keith
watch them.

                       ALEX
Hey. How you holding up?

Erin playfully hits Ray as they fall out of Keith's sight.

                       KEITH
Eh. I'm alright. Just miss her,
that's all.

                       ALEX
Yea, well. Shit happens. Don't
worry about it, okay? There's
plenty more where she came from.

24.

EXT. SCHOOL QUAD - DAY

Music: New Slang by The Shins fades in. A bunch of leaves
fall off the trees. Ray and Erin walk side by side, talking
and laughing. Their words are unheard because of the music.
They stop and sit down on some grass. Erin and Ray continue
talking. She ruffles his hair now and then. After awhile,
Ray looks at his watch and quickly grabs his bag. Erin does
the same and he two of them get back on the path to continue
walking. When they fall out of sight, the wind blows a stack
of leaves around. The music fades out.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY

Ray, Erin, Alex and Lily are sitting near each other on the
bus. Plenty of other kids are talking and laughing loudly.
The four friends are almost screaming in order to hear each
other.

                       RAY
No, I definitely give the best
massages. Don't even go there.

                       LILY
Aw, come on. You can't be that
good.

                       ERIN
He is, I swear.

                       LILY
Fine, fine. Prove it.

Erin has discovered that Alex has incredibly soft cheeks and
is petting them.

                       RAY
Sorry, I only give massages to
special people.

                       LILY
      (sarcastically)
Ouch. That hurts, Ray. That hurts.

                       ERIN
Hey, do you guys know Alex has the
softest cheeks?

                       ALEX
I know, I know.

25.

                       RAY
How modest.

They all laugh.

                       ANNOYING BOY # 1
Hey, Erin!

Erin turns around to face a bunch of kids looking at her.

                       ANNOYING BOY # 1
Why aren't you with your loser
boyfriend?

                       ERIN
Keith is not my boyfriend.

                       ANNOYING BOY # 1
I wasn't talking about Keith, but
if you want to call him a loser,
be my guest.

                       ANNOYING GIRL # 1
What happened? Trouble in
paradise?

                       ERIN
It's none of your business.

                       GROUP OF KIDS
Ooooh!

                       RAY
Shut up, guys. Jesus.

                       ERIN
Thanks, Ray.

The group of kids go back to talking amongst themselves. Ray
rubs Erin's leg and smiles. She smiles back at him. Lily
sees this and clears her throat loud enough for Erin to hear
her. Erin doesn't notice.

                       ALEX
Hey guys, this is our stop.

                       LILY
Erin, call me later, okay? I need
to talk to you.

                       ERIN
Um, alright. Bye.

26.

Erin, Ray, and Alex leave the bus.

INT. LILY'S ROOM - NIGHT

Lily is on the phone talking to Erin. She is lying on her
bed. Her room is white with flowers on it. It is small, but
organized. She has a desk with a computer as well as a big
dresser. Her bed is many different shades of red.

                       LILY
I can't believe you like him!

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

As Erin talks to Lily on the phone, she is typing on her
laptop.

                       ERIN
It's no big deal. It's not like he
doesn't know. Hey, send me that
e-mail you were talking about
today. The one with the things
boyfriends should do with their
girlfriends. Sounds funny.

INTERCUT BETWEEN LILY AND ERIN

                       LILY
Oh, okay. Hold on.

Erin grabs the television remote from her desk. She turns on
the television. Sleepless in Seattle is on. Meg Ryan and Tom
Hanks are holding hands in the elevator, the closing scene.

                       COMPUTER VOICE
You've Got Mail!

                       LILY
Did you get it? I sent it to a
bunch of other people too.

                       ERIN
Yeah, thanks.

An Instant Message pops up from Keith.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
Guess I should have read it, huh?

27.

                       ERIN
      (to Lily)
Did you send it to Keith too?

                       LILY
Yeah. Why?
      (beat)
Oh. Oops. Sorry.

                       KEITH (written on screen)
So, I hear that you like Ray now.

                       ERIN
Eh. It doesn't matter. I have to
go anyway. I'll see you tomorrow.
Bye.

                       LILY
Okay. Bye.

Erin hangs up with Lily and starts talking to Keith on-line.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Where did you hear that?

                       KEITH (V.O.)
Are you going to ask him out?

                       ERIN (V.O.)
I don't know.

Erin's phone rings.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Listen, Keith, I gotta go. I'll
see you tomorrow.

Erin's phone rings again.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
Okay. Bye.

Erin reaches for her phone.

                       ERIN
Hello?

                       RAY (O.S.)
Hey...

Erin closes her computer.

28.

                       ERIN
Hey, Ray.

                       RAY (O.S.)
How's life?

                       ERIN
Eh, alright.
      (beat)
Ray, do you think that we could go
out anytime soon?

Erin gets up from her chair.

                       RAY (O.S.)
I hear you still like Keith.

                       ERIN
Um, can you answer my question?

                       RAY (O.S.)
Is it true?

Erin starts pacing back and forth in her room.

                       ERIN
A little, but I like you a lot
more.

                       RAY (O.S.)
This isn't a competition, Erin.
I'm not trying to win you over or
anything.

                       ERIN
I didn't say it was. I am just- I
don't know. I'm a little confused,
that's all.

                       RAY (O.S.)
Okay.

                       ERIN
      (beat)
Are you gonna answer my question?

                       RAY (O.S.)
Look, I just don't think we will
work out.

She stops walking.

29.

                       ERIN
But, but- Today? Yesterday? Have
you always thought this? It didn't
seem like it.

                       RAY (O.S.)
I know. But, we can't work with
Keith and everything. You just
need to find someone else. 'Cause
we're not gonna go out.

EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK - DAY

Keith and Erin are walking home. Music: Bend to squares by
Death Cab starts playing. Erin is shivering in her coat.
Leaves are falling all around them. A mother walks by with
her daughter. They are skipping and laughing. Erin smiles.

                       KEITH
So, uh, I heard that you made the
volleyball team.

                       ERIN
Yeah, you gonna come see us play?

Erin playfully punches him in the arm. Keith jumps at her
touch. She looks at him funny.

                       ERIN
What's with you?

                       KEITH
      (slowly)
Nothing, its just that I, uh,
heard about what happened with
Ray.

                       ERIN
Boy, things really travel fast
through you guys.
      (beat)
Look, I don't even know what
happened. You guys are just...

Keith looks at her and waits for her to finish her sentence.

                       ERIN
I don't know, full of hormones.

30.

                       KEITH
Well, you chose to go out with one
of those hormonal guys. And,
according to my sources-

                       ERIN
Who are these sources that
everyone keeps referring to?

                       KEITH
Let's just say that you might want
to stop telling Alex so much.

                       ERIN
Oops.

                       KEITH
Yea, well... Do you still like me
as well as Ray? I mean, would you
want to go out with me again?

                       ERIN
      (beat)
Sure. I'd like that.

They stop at Keith's apartment. Keith leans down to kiss
Erin.

                       ERIN
      (quietly)
It's good to be back.

Keith goes into his apartment and Erin walks the other way.
She walks down some streets, smiling.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Erin is at her desk. A small desk lamp lets her do her
homework. Music fades out.

                       ERIN'S DAD (O.S.)
Sweetie?

                       ERIN
Yeah?

                       ERIN'S DAD (O.S.)
Could you come here a minute?

                       ERIN
Coming!

31.

INT. ERIN'S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Erin's dad is sitting on the couch, watching television. The
living room has a huge couch. They have no art on the walls
but plenty of pictures. There are also many plants. Erin
walks in but doesn't sit down.

                       ERIN'S DAD
So, mom tells me that you're back
with Keith?

Erin begins to walk out.

                       ERIN'S DAD
No, come back!

Erin walks back and stands, waiting for her dad to talk.

                       ERIN'S DAD
Talk to me. What happened to Ray?

                       ERIN
How did you-MOM!

Erin's mom walks in.

                       ERIN
You told him about Ray?

                       ERIN'S MOM
You know there are no secrets in
this house.

                       ERIN'S DAD
So, you went from Keith to Ray to
Keith again.

                       ERIN
Dad, I'm gonna get back to-

                       ERIN'S MOM
Well, aren't you the little slut,
going from guy to guy.

Erin stays for a moment and tries to say something, but no
words come out. She runs to her room.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY

Erin and Keith are sitting together sharing a fruit drink
from Starbucks. Music: The way you say goodnight fades in.
Erin hands the drink to Keith. He takes a sip and cringes.

32.

                       KEITH
This is the worst thing I have
ever tasted.

                       ERIN
      (playfully)
Oh, shut up. If you don't like it,
stop drinking it.

Erin takes the drink from Keith and takes a sip.

                       ERIN
Hey, are you coming to my
volleyball game tomorrow?

                       KEITH
Sure. I can be the head
cheerleader.

Erin laughs.

                       ERIN
That really isn't necessary.

                       KEITH
No, really. I'll bring Alex.

                       ERIN
Okay. I'll bring you pom-poms.

                       KEITH
And a pink shirt with sparkly
sparkly funtastic glitter?

                       ERIN
I'll, um, see what I can do.

Keith pretends to yawn and puts his arm around Erin.

                       ERIN
I love when you do that.

                       KEITH
I know.

The two of them sit there as Erin falls asleep. Other kids
pass them and get on the bus. They don't notice. Music fades
out.

33.

INT. SCHOOL GYM - NIGHT

Sounds of various school kids cheering can be heard from the
stands. Keith and Alex enter the gym. Keith is carrying the
pom-poms while Alex is wearing a pink shirt. The volleyball
players are off to the side. Erin and her teammates are
talking, but are interrupted as they watch Keith and Alex
walk in.

                       CASS
Oh my god.

                       KATIE
It can't be.

                       STEFANI
Is that your boyfriend?

                       LILY
Why is he wearing pink?

                       ERIN
What are you guys talking-

Keith waves to Erin as he sits down. Erin starts to crack
up.

                       DIANE
Oh, boy.

                       ERIN
It's not that big of a deal. It's
just hysterical.

                       STEFANI
You're right. It's no big deal
that your boyfriend is now the
head cheerleader.

Keith waves the pom-poms.

                       KATIE
He's almost better than me.

                       ERIN
Shut up.

                       COACH
Come on, time to play, you guys.
I'm leaving you here with the game
coach. Play well, you guys.

34.

Erin, Lily, Katie, Cass, Stefani, and Diane set up on the
court.

                       CASS
Think of your happy place. It
makes you play better.

                       LILY
Erin's happy place is sitting
right over there.

                       ERIN
Shut up!

                       GAME COACH
Focus on the game, Erin.

6 members of the other team set up on the other side of the
court.

                       DIANE
It's your serve, Erin.

Diane passes Erin the ball.

                       KEITH
Yay! Go Erin!

                       ERIN
      (mumbling)
Oh, boy.

                       TEAM
Come on, Erin! Yea, Erin! You can
do it, Erin! Think of your happy
place! We love you, Erin!

Erin hits the ball and misses her serve.

                       KEITH
Don't worry about it, foxy!

                       TEAM
You'll get it next time! We love
you!

                       LILY
Really, Erin. Don't worry about
it.
      (beat)
Besides, Keith thinks you're great
no matter what you do.

35.

Erin laughs.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - NIGHT

Erin and Keith are leaning on each other. Lots of kids
scream and talk loudly in the b.g. Music: Stairway to Heaven
by Led Zeppelin starts playing.

                       ERIN
I told you we suck, you just
didn't listen.

                       KEITH
Hey, there is a group of girls who
are good with their hands and
spend their free time playing with
balls. I had to come.

Erin playfully hits him on the arm.

Keith looks at her and leans in for a kiss. They begin to
make out.

Lily, Katie, Stefani, Tracy, Diane, and Larry are opposite
Keith and Erin. They are talking. Some of them are leaning
over the top of seats while others are sitting or standing.

                       LILY
Shut up! You're so wrong.

                       TRACY
No! You guys could definitely go
for Varsity some day!

Keith and Erin continue to make out.

                       KATIE
Hey, you guys? Who's that?

They all look over at Keith and Erin.

                       LILY
Don't bother. They won't stop for
anything.

Erin brushes the hair out of his face and looks at him. They
continue to make out.

Music fades out.

36.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY

Lily and Erin are talking by Lily's locker. Many kids walk
around them. A couple guys are passing a football around.

                       LILY
Hey, I have a question.

                       ERIN
Yeah?

                       LILY
Is Keith a bad kisser?

                       ERIN
Where did that come from?

                       LILY
I don't know. Just tell me.

                       ERIN
Well, he's alright. He's not
extremely good or ridiculously bad
or anything. He's just okay.

Keith sneaks behind Erin and grabs her stomach. Erin
playfully screams and laughs. Keith starts tickling her. She
laughs until she can't take it anymore and pushes him away.

                       KEITH
Are you gonna come hang with us?

                       ERIN
Sure. I'll see you later, Lily.

Lily waves as Keith and Erin walk out, hand in hand.

INT. A STAIRCASE - DAY

Erin and Keith are sitting together on some steps. The area
around them is deserted.

                       ERIN
Yea, I know. But, I don't care
about my parents, anyway.

                       KEITH
Well, you have me, foxy lady.

Keith does a Jimi Hendrix imitation from Foxy Lady. Erin
laughs. As she is about to kiss him, she spots Ray. She gets
up to greet him.

37.

                       RAY
Hey.

                       ERIN
Hey, Ray. What's up?

Ray sits down on the table. Keith looks incredibly confused
as to what just happened. Music: Giving In by Adema fades
in.

                       RAY
Not much. I'm really tired.

                       ERIN
Yea, me too.

                       KEITH
...Yea, me too...

                       RAY
So, how's the perfect couple?

Keith laughs and Erin smiles. Without realizing it, Keith
begins to scratch his knuckles on the wall.

                       ERIN
Great. How's the single life?

                       RAY
Eh, can't complain.

Still unaware, Keith's knuckles begin to bleed. He suddenly
notices that his hand is trickling blood and wipes his
fingers on his jeans.

                       KEITH
Well, I'm gonna go to class.

                       ERIN
Oh, okay. I'll come with you. Bye,
Ray.

Erin gives Ray a hug and walks off with Keith.

EXT. SCHOOL QUAD - DAY

The wind makes the trees rustle their leaves. Keith and Erin
are walking to their next class. Erin smiles at him and
takes his hand. She looks down when she realizes her hand
has blood on it. Erin lets go of Keith's hand and looks at
her own. When she doesn't see any cuts, she takes Keith's
hand and looks at it.

38.

                       ERIN
Oh my god! What happened?

                       KEITH
Nah, its nothing.

Erin looks at him, very worried, and sits down with him on
the grass. She starts to examine his hand.

                       ERIN
Jesus, you really messed up your
knuckles.

                       KEITH
Really, it's just a little blood.

                       ERIN
Just a little blood? Look at this!
We should get you to the nurse.
How did you do this?

Erin looks up at Keith, waiting for an answer.

                       KEITH
      (beat)
Well... when you and Ray were
talking earlier, I was upset
about... something. So, I just
started scratching my knuckles
against the wall.

Erin stares at Keith in shock and looks a bit terrified.

                       ERIN
But-What... Why were you upset?

                       KEITH
      (beat)
If you're thinking that it's about
Ray, its not.

                       ERIN
Oh, no. I just-

                       KEITH
Forget it, really. I have to get
to class.

Erin stands up.

                       ERIN
There's something you're not
telling me. If you don't want to
tell me, that's fine. But, don't
            (MORE)

39.

                       ERIN (cont'd)
hurt yourself over it.
      (beat)
You should get to the nurse.

Erin walks away. Music fades out.

INT. KEITH'S ROOM - NIGHT

Keith is at his computer Instant Messaging Erin. His room
looks even messier than before.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Erin is sitting at her laptop. She is heavily breathing to
calm herself down.

INTERCUT BETWEEN KEITH AND ERIN

                       ERIN (V.O.)
I think we need to talk.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
Okay...

                       ERIN (V.O.)
I just think it's kind of weird
that when we're not together,
making out, or when I'm with Ray,
you freak.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
I don't freak, I just get worried.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
What could possibly worry you so
much that you had to scratch your
knuckles against a wall?

                       KEITH (V.O.)
I just feel like you are going to
break up with me for Ray any day
now.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Oh...

                       KEITH (V.O.)
      (beat)
That's what you're going to do,
isn't it?

40.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Keith, I just think that we rushed
into this relationship just
because Ray turned me down.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
So, I was a rebound boyfriend?

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Come on, Keith. This is hard for
both of us.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
Yea, I'm sure you can really
relate to being dumped by a girl
TWICE in- What is it? Less than a
couple of weeks. The only thing
going on in your life is that
stupid family of yours. Sometimes,
I wish I could just help you so
you can get over it and stop
complaining. It's like a Spanish
soap opera.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Right. Here we go again.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
Oh, that's right. I can't help you
going from guy to guy all the
time. You're such a slut.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
      (beat)
That's not funny.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
I'm completely serious. You are a
slut. Stupid whore. Bye.

Erin continues to look at the computer screen as her tears
fall. Finally, she closes the laptop and picks up the phone
and dials.

                       LILY (O.S.)
Hello?

                       ERIN
Hi, Lily.

                       LILY (O.S.)
Oh, hey Eri. What's up?

41.

                       ERIN
      (beat)
I have to ask you an honest
question. And you have to answer
truthfully.

                       LILY (O.S.)
Sure, anything.

                       ERIN
      (beat)
Do you think that I'm a slut?

                       LILY (O.S.)
WHAT? Why would I think that?

                       ERIN
No, its just- I was talking to
Keith and...

                       LILY (O.S.)
Aw, Erin. I'm so sorry. You're not
a slut. I don't care what Keith
says. You are worth so much more
than him. Really, he doesn't
deserve you.

                       ERIN
Thanks, Lil. I love you.

                       LILY (O.S.)
I love you too. Don't worry about
him, okay? I'll see you on Monday.
Have a good weekend.

                       ERIN
You too. Bye.

Erin goes to her bed and lies down.

INT. KEITH'S ROOM - DAY

Keith is writing an e-mail to Erin on his computer. Music:
Porcelain by Moby starts playing.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
I don't know where to begin, so if
this seems all jumbled up and
unorganized, its because it is.

He taps the keyboard trying to think of something to write.

42.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - DAY

Erin is reading her e-mail. She double clicks on one from
Keith.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
I think that when we were going
out the first time it was more
like a friendship + kissing and
maybe that's why it worked. Only
speculation... After you dumped
me, I was hurt and I think I
really did stop loving you, and
when I, (or maybe we), realized
the whole relationship wasn't
going to work a second time, I (or
we) tried to replace it with
physical love. In my opinion, that
worked.

Erin stops reading her e-mail for a moment. She picks up a
picture of her with Ray and Keith on her desk. She growls at
it and then goes back to the e-mail.

                       KEITH (V.O.)
I think we both knew that the
whole thing wasn't really "love"
anymore. It was more about lust
and just having fun. I've talked
to older friends before and they
all seem to think that "real,
meaningful" relationships are
pointless at our age. The guys are
all really horny and the girls
just want to feel loved. I don't
really know where I am going with
this except that I understand why
you wanted to break up. If I
wasn't so damn horny, I would have
done the same thing.

Erin sighs and deletes the e-mail. Music fades out.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY

Erin is walking down the hall. She spots Keith but continues
walking. Keith runs alongside of her and tries to get her to
talk to him.

                       KEITH
Erin, come on! Erin! At least
listen to me!

43.

                       ERIN
I can't stop you from talking. I'm
all ears.

However, Erin continues to walk away from him.

                       KEITH
I am so fucking sorry and if there
is anything at all I can do to get
you to at least talk to me, I'll
do it. I swear, I will keep trying
to be your friend for the next 4
years of high school. Don't do
this! It will be too weird for us
both to go to Ray's house without
talking and I don't want you not
going because of me. Please just
talk to me!

Erin stops walking and looks Keith in the eye.

                       ERIN
Let's recap here, shall we? You
insult my life and say that I
complain too much about it. Then
you call me a slut and a whore
when you know how much it gets to
me. But, yet, you still say it to
DELIBERATELY hurt me. I tell you
that its not funny to say that.
You say that you are serious.

                       KEITH
Yes, I know, but-

Erin holds her hand up to get him to stop talking.

                       ERIN
Then, all of a sudden, when it's
not you attacking me, its me,
crying hysterically because a
person I once cared about and
trusted is making me feel as
horrible as possible. Then, only
then, do you feel sorry about what
you did. Is that what it takes to
get you to realize what an ass you
can be? I would think that you
would be smarter than that. But,
right now, please just leave me
the fuck alone. You have really
hurt me.

44.

Erin leaves Keith standing there. He decides to follow her.

                       KEITH
Look, its just that sometimes I do
or say rash things.

                       ERIN
Yeah, I've noticed.

                       KEITH
I'd like to be someone you can
trust and help you through your
life.

Erin stops walking.

                       ERIN
No, I'm sorry but, no.

                       KEITH
Why? You don't have anyone.

                       ERIN
Well, lately, I haven't been
telling anyone anything because
apparently it means that I
complain too much.

                       KEITH
Are you saying that in our
entirety together, I haven't
helped you at all?

                       ERIN
Yes, if anything, you have made me
feel much worse about my life.

                       KEITH
What? How?

                       ERIN
      (mimicking)
Your life is like a Spanish soap
opera. Your life is so crappy. I
feel so bad for you. Please, let
me help you. Do you think I want
to hear that?

                       KEITH
I think that you think, say or do
things subconsciously that make
things worse for you.

45.

                       ERIN
I cause the bad things in my life?

                       KEITH
Yes, exactly.

                       ERIN
This is ridiculous.
      (mumbling)
And you wonder why you haven't
helped me.

Erin starts walking again. Keith follows.

                       KEITH
You don't cause them, but you
solve them the wrong way.

Erin doesn't respond.

                       KEITH
      (continuing)
I think you search for love in the
wrong ways.

Erin stops walking again.

                       ERIN
Oh! So THAT'S what this is about!
You're still mad that I broke up
with you.

                       KEITH
No, no. Love can come in many
forms. But, it's not love when you
have sex or anything like that.
Love can also come in friendship,
you know? You need some true
friends.

                       ERIN
      (frustrated)
Are we almost finished here?

                       KEITH
You should work on making stronger
bonds with people.

                       ERIN
I really don't need to hear what
you think about my life.

46.

                       KEITH
You don't want help?

                       ERIN
I'd rather live my life my way
than yours.

                       KEITH
Yes, you can live an unsuccessful,
unhappy life. And what is my way,
anyway? Being happy? I couldn't
ask for a better life. I have
great friends, I am doing well in
school. I am fit. This is my idea
of a happy life.

Erin moves past him and opens her locker. She pretends to
look for something.

                       KEITH
You really don't want to examine
your own life. I can't help you if
you don't want to open your eyes
to see these things.

                       ERIN
You make me see the HORRIBLE
things in my life. Why would I
want that?

                       KEITH
I can't help you. I don't know if
anyone can. All I will do is pray.

                       ERIN
Oh, SHUT UP!

Erin slams her locker closed.

                       KEITH
I'm not going to be brought down
by someone else's blindness.

                       ERIN
My blindness?
      (laughing)
MY BLINDNESS? Do you know what you
are doing to me? Maybe if you
hadn't tried to HELP so many
times, then I wouldn't have so
much pain.

Keith sighs.

47.

                       KEITH
You still don't get it.

Keith leaves and Erin is left standing alone. Music: The
Shining by Badly Drown Boy fades in. Erin turns and walks
the other way. She spots Ray leaning against a wall,
reading. She walks over to him and he puts his arm around
her. They stand there, reading the book.

                       RAY
Let's go for a walk, okay?

Erin smiles and walks with him.

INT. SCHOOL QUAD - DAY

Later: Ray gives Erin a hug. She reaches her hands inside
Ray's jacket and smiles. They start talking, but the music
drowns them out.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY

Erin is talking with her friends. Ray sneaks up on her and
tickles her. She bursts out laughing and playfully hits him
back.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY

Later: Erin is lying against Ray.

INT. RAY'S ROOM - NIGHT

Later: Erin and Ray are lying down next to each other on
Ray's bed. Erin shuts her eyes. Ray leans down to kiss her
on the head and then lays back and shuts his eyes as well.

EXT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY

Erin is sitting across from Keith. They aren't speaking to
each other. Erin is looking out the window as Keith is
continuously checking to see if Erin is looking at him.
Music fades out.

EXT. SCHOOL QUAD - DAY

Erin and Ray are talking on the grass. She has his arm in
his. Their friend, Harry walks over.

48.

                       HARRY
Whatcha' doing?

                       ERIN
Talking.

                       RAY
Don't you have class?

                       HARRY
Oh, I see how it is.

                       ERIN
No, come on. Sit with us.

                       HARRY
No, that's okay. I'll leave you
two alone.

Erin smiles and leans against Ray.

                       HARRY
You know, you guys would be really
cute together.

Ray kisses Erin on the cheek.

                       HARRY
Wait a minute. Am I missing
something?

                       ERIN
Probably.

                       HARRY
Wow, Erin and Ray. I never saw
that coming. What happened to-

Ray glares at him.

                       HARRY
Well, now I really do have class.
Bye, lovers.

Harry leaves the two of them.

                       ERIN
I think I might leave soon as
well.

                       RAY
Oh, wait. Before you go...

49.

Ray reaches into his backpack and pulls out his CD player.

                       RAY
I want you to listen to this song
- Castles Made of Sand by Jimi
Hendrix

                       ERIN
I'll listen to it later.

                       RAY
Better yet, buy it.

Erin grabs her back and stands up.

                       ERIN
Okay, I will... I promise. I
promise!

                       RAY
Okay, okay. I'll see you at your
game, then.

                       ERIN
Okay. Bye, babe.

Erin kisses Ray on the cheek and walks away.

INT. SCHOOL GYM - NIGHT

Erin and her friends are passing around a volleyball on the
court. Ray walks into the gym and sees Erin. He watches her
and lingers at the door. Erin's friends start to notice him
and whisper about it.

                       KATIE
Got it!

Katie bumps the ball to Lily.

                       CASS
Hey, Erin! Your boyfriend's here!

Lily bumps the ball to Erin. Erin turns around to look for
Ray.

                       ERIN
What?

                       LILY
Erin! The ball!

50.

Erin turns around as the volleyball his her in the head. Ray
and the rest of her teammates laugh. Erin walks over to Ray.

                       ERIN
Ouch.

Erin rubs her head.

                       RAY
Nice move.

                       ERIN
Shut up.

                       RAY
I can't come to your game today.

                       ERIN
Why not?

                       RAY
I have a shitload of homework to
do.

                       ERIN
Aw.

Ray gives Erin a hug.

                       RAY
Okay. I should go before I miss
the bus.

Erin gives Ray a kiss.

                       ERIN
Bye, babe.

                       RAY
Bye.

                       GAME COACH (O.S.)
Erin, get back to practice.

Ray leaves as Erin goes back to the court.

                       LILY
How cute.

                       ERIN
What?

51.

                       CASS
Oh, come on. We all saw.

                       ERIN
It was just a goodbye kiss.

                       GAME COACH
Guys, less talk, more volleyball.
I'll tell your coach you guys were
bad if you don't go practice.

                       TEAM
Oooh!

                       GAME COACH
Seriously, let's go.

The girls set up on the court. Cass makes a face at Erin,
imitating someone making out and then gags.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY

Later: Keith and Alex are sitting on the bus. Ray walks down
the aisle and sits behind them.

                       KEITH
So... Where were YOU when school
ended?

                       ALEX
Yea, I thought we were going to
order a pizza.

                       RAY
Well, I had other things to do.

                       ALEX
Oh, really? Why don't you fill us
in, sex god?

Keith looks down at the floor.

                       ALEX
Come on, tell us.

                       RAY
      (acting all suave)
Well, you know. Erin and I were
having some quality time to
ourselves. I don't like to kiss
and tell, you know? But, it was
getting pretty heavy.

52.

                       KEITH
Not to be modest, or anything.

Ray and Alex laugh.

                       ALEX
Speaking of Erin, where is she?

                       RAY
Volleyball game.

                       KEITH
      (To Ray)
And you are here because?

                       RAY
Homework. I've got big projects
due tomorrow.

                       KEITH AND ALEX
Oooh.

                       ALEX
We even brought POM-POMS to her
game. I had to wear a pink shirt!

                       RAY
That's because you guys are
weirdos. My 'boyfriend
responsibilites' can wait a night.

INT. RAY'S ROOM - NIGHT

Ray is on the phone. He is typing on the computer as well.
All the lights in his room are on.

INT. LILY'S ROOM - NIGHT

Erin is at Lily's house. Lily is typing at the computer as
Erin sits on the bed.

INTERCUT BETWEEN RAY'S ROOM AND LILY'S ROOM

                       RAY
Okay, I have all of that down.

Erin walks over to Lily's computer.

                       ERIN
Hey, Lil?

53.

                       LILY
Yeah?

                       ERIN
Can we see if Ray is online?

Lily gives Erin a look. Erin gets on the floor and makes a
puppy dog face.

                       RAY
Okay. Thanks, Harry.
      (beat)
Great. Bye.

                       ERIN
Please, Lily. Please!

                       LILY
No, Erin-

                       ERIN
Aw, come on. Please just for a
little bit.

                       LILY
      (beat)
What's his screen name?

Erin smiles.

An IM pops up on Ray's computer.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Hey, its Erin. You there?

Lily's computer shows that Ray is typing.

                       ERIN
See! I told you he would be there.

                       RAY (V.O.)
Hey, how's my favorite volleyball
star?

Erin laughs. She types a response.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
Losing... again.

                       RAY (V.O.)
Practice makes perfect. Hey, my
parents aren't going to be home
tomorrow...

54.

Erin smiles.

                       ERIN (V.O.)
I'd love to. See ya then! Mwah!

                       RAY (V.O.)
Bye.

Lily steals the computer back from Erin.

                       ERIN
Boy, do I love him.

                       LILY
You talked to him for 5 minutes!

                       ERIN
Yea, but he's so easy to fall in
love with.

Erin lays down on Lily's bed and sighs.

                       LILY
Whatever you say, Erin.

INT. SCHOOL GYM - DAY

Erin and her teammates are running laps around the gym. The
coach and the game coach are sitting together talking. The
game coach points to Erin as she runs. Erin notices but, she
doesn't say anything.

                       COACH
Erin, could you come here a
second?

                       ERIN
Um, okay.

Erin runs over to the coaches. The rest of the girls are
purposely slowing down to hear what's going on.

                       COACH
Erin, were you doing something you
shouldn't have before the game
yesterday?

                       ERIN
No, not that I know of.

                       COACH
Are you sure?

55.

                       ERIN
Yeah.

                       COACH
Erin, do you have a boyfriend?

The girls start to fake cough as they go by.

                       ERIN
I don't think that's any of your
business.

                       COACH
      (calmly)
Answer the question.

                       ERIN
Yes, I do.

                       COACH
What's his name?

                       ERIN
Ray.

                       COACH
Ray what?

                       ERIN
Ray Mitchell.

The girls start to cough again.

                       COACH
Were you with Ray Mitchell before
the game yesterday?

                       ERIN
Yeah.

                       COACH
Well, my friend over here tells me
that he saw you two MAKING OUT
yesterday.

The girls continue to cough.

                       ERIN
      (quietly)
That's not true.

                       COACH
What? Sorry, I couldn't hear you.

56.

                       ERIN
It's not-

                       COACH
I really think you should keep
your personal life out of
volleyball, Erin.

                       ERIN
      (screaming)
WE WERE NOT MAKING OUT!

All of the girls burst into laughter. Some of them continue
to cough. All of them have stopped running.

                       COACH
Is there something your friends
would like to tell me about you
and this boyfriend of yours?

                       ERIN
No, not at all. No.

                       COACH
As long as I don't catch you with
your boyfriend anywhere near this
court, you're off the hook.

                       CASS
      (mumbling)
She'll just do it off the court
instead.

                       COACH
What was that?

                       ERIN
Nothing! Let's play some
volleyball, okay?

The girls laugh as they set up on the court.

INT. RAY'S ROOM - DAY

Erin, Ray, Keith, and Alex are at Ray's house. Ray is
sitting at his desk, Erin is laying on the bed, and Keith
and Alex are on the window seat. Alex is eating cookies and
water. Ray's cat jumps up on the bed. It surprises Erin, but
she pets it.

57.

                       ERIN
Yea, he told me to keep my hands
off you on the court.

                       RAY
I'm gonna get my ass kicked in gym
tomorrow.

                       ERIN
Sorry. Nothing I can do. You
kissed me.

                       RAY
So? You kissed me back.

                       ERIN
It would have been a really weird
kiss if I hadn't.

                       KEITH
O.K. - Let's change the subject.

Erin and Ray smile at each other.

                       ALEX
Hey, does anyone want the rest of
this water?

No one responds.

                       ALEX
Oh, well. It's a waste. Let's
baptize the kitty!

Ray jumps up as Alex moves towards the cat.

                       RAY
If you take one more step towards
my cat-

                       ALEX
I think it's about time we leave.
I'll just bring these cookies with
me.

Ray sighs and rolls his eyes, but goes and sits by Erin.

                       RAY
Okay.

                       ALEX
You don't care?

58.

                       RAY
No, its okay. Go ahead.

Alex and Keith grab their bags.

                       ALEX
      (whispering)
We should leave them alone more
often.

Keith and Alex walk out. Ray walks over to close the door.
Music: Kissin' You by Sade fades in.

                       ERIN
Have I ever told you that this bed
is the most comfortable bed I've
ever-

Ray dims the lights.

                       RAY
There, that's better.

                       ERIN
Yeah.

                       RAY
Want a massage?

                       ERIN
I'd love one.

Erin turns over and Ray climbs on the bed to massage her
upper back.

                       RAY
Good?

                       ERIN
Excellent.

Ray continues to massage her. Erin turns back over and Ray
stops.

                       ERIN
      (whispering)
Come here.

Ray leans in closer to Erin and they start to kiss. They
continue kissing for awhile until Erin pulls away and smiles
at him. As they continue kissing, they lie down. The sunset
over the river can be seen out of Ray's window.

59.

EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK - NIGHT

Music skips to 2:55. Erin walks out of Ray's building. It is
raining. She breathes in the smell of a night rainfall. Erin
starts to dance around in it. She spins and spins and looks
up to the night sky. Erin jumps up and down and finally
starts to walk home, skipping every now and then.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY

Erin and her Lily are sitting by Erin's locker. There are
plenty of kids around them, but the music blocks out their
voices.

                       ERIN
I don't know. We just were
together for a long time. I don't
really remember anything else. I
kind of felt like I was drunk of
love or something.

Music fades out as Lily smiles at Erin.

EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK - DAY

Ray, Erin, Keith, and Alex are walking home. All of the
leaves have fallen off the trees. No one says anything as
they walk. Erin smells the fresh, cold air and takes Ray's
hand. They get to Ray's apartment.

                       RAY
I have a lot of homework, so you
guys can't come up. Sorry.

                       ALEX
Oh, I see how it is. Ditching your
pals for your girl.

Ray lets go of Erin's hand.

                       RAY
No, Erin as well. You guys can't
come upstairs. None of you. Sorry.

Keith and Alex share puzzled looks, but continue walking.
Erin gives Ray a quick kiss on the cheek and then runs to
catch up to Keith and Alex.

                       ERIN
Hey, Alex?

60.

                       ALEX
Yeah?

                       ERIN
Anything weird going on with Ray
lately?

                       ALEX
No, not that I know of.

                       ERIN
Oh, okay. Thanks.

Keith widens his eyes at Erin, as if expecting her to say
something.

                       KEITH
You know, I don't think there is
anything wrong with him either.

Erin nods, but doesn't look at him. They continue to walk.

                       KEITH
I have the slightest feeling that
you still aren't talk to me.

                       ERIN
No, I'm talking to you. I just
don't trust you.

                       ALEX
Well, that was nice of you.

                       KEITH
No, I get it. I understand.

They continue walking. Erin's phone rings. She scrambles
through her bag to find it. Finally, she picks it up and
answers it.

                       ERIN
Hello?
      (beat)
Yea, mom? Uh huh.
      (beat)
Mom, calm down. I'm on my way home
right now. Yes. Okay. I will. I
love-

Erin looks at her phone and realizes her mother hung up.

                       ERIN
Well, that went well.

61.

                       ALEX
You're not having a good day, are
you?

                       ERIN
No, I am. Just... Too many things
to think about.

                       KEITH
Are you going to dump Ray?!

                       ERIN
No! Of course not. Things are
gonna be fine.

                       ALEX
Right.

                       KEITH
You always say that.

                       ERIN
...So?

                       KEITH
Well, does it ever prove true?

Erin looks down at her feet for a bit and then back at
Keith. She then storms ahead of them.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Erin is on the phone with Ray. She is pacing back in forth.

                       ERIN
It's nothing. It just that you
seem to be avoiding me lately.

                       RAY (O.S.)
No, I'm not. I just have a lot of
things to do. That's all. Speaking
of which, I have to go finish my
history project. I'll see you
tomorrow. Love you.

                       ERIN
Okay, love you too. Bye.

Erin hangs up the phone. She sits down on her bed and looks
around her room. The phone rings. She rushes to answer it.

62.

                       ERIN
Hello?

                       KEITH (O.S.)
Hey, Erin. It's Keith.

                       ERIN
Oh... Hi.

                       KEITH (O.S.)
Is everything okay? You sound sad.
Oh. Did you and Ray break up? I'm
so sorry, Erin.

                       ERIN
      (quickly)
No, we didn't break up. He just...
I don't know. It seems like he
doesn't want to be around me
sometimes. Not just today, but
ever since the week started, it
hasn't been the same.

                       KEITH (O.S.)
Right, I understand.

                       ERIN
Well, I have that movie thing
after school with him tomorrow.
All we are basically doing is
sitting there as they film us
talking to each other. He said to
bring some friends. You wanna
come?

                       KEITH
Sure. I'll see you then. Bye.

Erin hangs up the phone. Her mother walks into the room. She
does not look happy.

                       ERIN'S MOM
Erin, I think it's time we talk
about where you have been everyday
for the past month.

                       ERIN
What are you talking about?

                       ERIN'S MOM
You seem to be getting home later
than usual. When it started out,
you would call and say that you
were going to Ray's house. But
            (MORE)

63.

                       ERIN'S MOM (cont'd)
now, you go everyday! It's
ridiculous!

                       ERIN
Mom, JUST yesterday, you were
telling me how you were talking to
Katie's mom and how she went out
to pizza with her friends
everyday. You yelled at me because
I didn't do that. And now you yell
at me because I do?

                       ERIN'S MOM
Erin! I don't even know these
boys! They could be having sex
with you every afternoon. I read
all these stories about -

                       ERIN
Mom! We're not having sex! Okay?

                       ERIN'S MOM
Well then what could possibly be
the reason that you NEED to go
over there EVERYDAY. It doesn't
make any sense. You just expect
the whole world to revolve around
you. You don't tell us when you're
coming home and then when you show
up, you think everyone will be
okay with it. Well, we're not. You
have to realize that the world
doesn't revolve around you and
that everything you do involves
your family. EVERYTHING you do
affects ME. Got that? I'm tired of
this. You have to start thinking
about other people or I'm not
going to let you go to Ray's house
anymore.

Erin's mom walks out and goes into her room. Erin goes to
the door and slams it. She sits down at her desk. Erin puts
on a smile, pretending not to care and turns on the
television.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - NIGHT

Keith, Erin, Lily, Liza, Stefani, Christine, and various
others are sitting and talking in the corridor. Ray is
talking to other students while dealing with the camera.

64.

                       CHRISTINE
Keith! Give me back my iPod!

Christine and Keith wrestle around for the iPod. Erin leans
over to Lily.

                       ERIN
      (whispering)
I think Christine likes Keith.

                       LILY
No shit.

Christine wins and gets her iPod back. Ray walks past them.

                       CHRISTINE
Hey, Ray! Why are you ignoring
Erin?

Ray stops walking.

                       RAY
I'm not ignoring her.

Ray turns around and waves at Erin. She waves back.

                       ERIN
Hey.

                       RAY
I'm not ignoring you.

Ray continues to walk past.

                       ERIN
Christine!

                       CHRISTINE
What? You wanted to know.

Erin rolls her eyes.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - NIGHT

Later:Ray is lying his head on Erin's lap. She is playing
with his hair. Christine, Lily, Keith, and other kids are in
the back of the bus. Ray sits up. Erin leans into him. He
pulls away and sits in the seat in front of Erin. Ray starts
talking to someone else. Erin sits alone for a bit, looking
confused until she goes back of the bus to join her friends.

65.

                       CHRISTINE
What? No lip-locking?

They laugh. Erin shakes her head.

                       LILY
You guys didn't break up, right?

                       ERIN
No, no. He just got up and started
talking to his friend.

                       CHRISTINE
Well, go kiss him goodbye. You
won't see him all weekend.

Erin walks back to Ray. He is packing up his stuff.

                       ERIN
You leaving?

                       RAY
Yea. I'll see you on Monday.

Ray kisses her on the cheek, grabs his bag and walks off the
bus.

                       ANNOYING BOY # 2
That went well.

                       ERIN
Shut up.

Erin walks back to her friends.

                       KEITH
Well?

                       ERIN
No luck.

                       CHRISTINE
Oh.

                       ERIN
      (beat)
You don't think he's going to
break up with me, do you?

                       LILY
Definitely not.

66.

                       CHRISTINE
No way!

                       ERIN
Seriously, guys.

                       KEITH
Maybe.

                       CHRISTINE
There's a possibility.

                       LILY
It's not likely.

                       ERIN
Guys-

                       LILY
He doesn't deserve you.

                       CHRISTINE
His loss, really.

                       KEITH
You don't need him.

                       ERIN
What happened to the "definitely
not" theory we were going with
before.

Keith, Christine and Lily all shrug. Erin laughs.

                       ERIN
Come on, it's my stop. We'll talk
to you later, Keith.

Erin, Christine and Lily grab their bags. Erin and Lily
leave the bus. Christine signals Keith to call her and then
walks out.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Christine is on Erin's bed, Lily is on Erin's couch and Erin
is sitting at her computer desk. They are watching "Pirates
of the Caribbean". Erin's blinds are down and all of her
lights are on.

                       LILY
It just doesn't make sense.

67.

                       ERIN
What?

                       LILY
How can a person so incredibly
good-looking have to wear such
hideous costumes?

Orlando Bloom is on the TV screen.

                       LILY
Come on, look at him!

They all laugh.

                       LILY
I mean, I think-

                       ERIN
Hey! Ray is finally online!

                       CHRISTINE
Yay!

Lily glares at them. Christine laughs but Erin doesn't
notice. An IM sound is heard.

                       ERIN
      (beat)
Uh oh...

                       CHRISTINE
What?

                       ERIN
He asked how I thought our
relationship was going.

                       LILY
Oh, boy.

                       CHRISTINE
Well, tell him.

Another IM sound is heard.

                       ERIN
Tell him what?

                       CHRISTINE
How you feel.

68.

                       ERIN
Um...

Another IM sound is heard.

                       LILY
Answer the question, Erin! Before
he thinks that YOU are ignoring
HIM!

Erin starts typing. She presses enter and waits.

                       LILY
What'd you say?

                       ERIN
I said things are great besides
him avoiding me.

Another IM sound is heard.

                       ERIN
He says he wants to talk to me
about that.

                       CHRISTINE
Okay...

Another IM sound is heard.

                       ERIN
      (beat)
He... He wants to break up.

Music:I'll Catch You by The Get-Up Kids fades in. A tear
falls down Erin's cheek as she closes her laptop.

                       CHRISTINE
Aren't you going to ask him why?

                       LILY
Are you okay?

Erin doesn't respond as she goes and lies down on her bed.

EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK - DAY

There are kids jumping in a pile of leaves. Ray, Keith,
Alex, and Erin are walking home in coats. They reach Ray's
apartment and Erin waves goodbye as the rest of them go up.
Erin continues walking.

69.

EXT. SCHOOL QUAD - DAY

Erin is talking with a group of friends and stops suddenly
when she spots Ray. They link eyes and then look away.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY

Erin and Ray pass each other in the hallway. Erin looks at
him and then looks down. Ray does the same. They continue
walking without a word.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY

Later: Erin is standing at her locker. There is only one
group of kids in the corridor besides her. Keith comes up
behind her and tickles her.

                       ERIN
      (annoyed)
Stop it. Keith! I said STOP!

Keith pulls away. Music fades out.

                       KEITH
You know, I haven't seen you smile
in a LONG time. It's not like you.

Erin is shuffling through her locker.

                       KEITH
      (continuing)
Where did the old Erin go? I know
you, Erin. This isn't you.

                       ERIN
You don't know me at all. Don't
even try to say you do.

                       KEITH
What are you talking about? Of
course I know you.

Erin closes her locker and faces him.

                       ERIN
There are a lot of things about me
you don't know. Okay?

                       KEITH
What's there not to know? I spend
everyday with you. I could write a
book about you.

70.

                       KEITH (cont'd)
      (beat)
Well?

                       ERIN
I should get to class.

Erin turns around and walks the other way. Keith circles
around her to stop her.

                       KEITH
No! Erin!

Erin keeps walking. Keith begins to walk backwards to keep
up with her.

                       KEITH
Erin! Stop!

                       ERIN
What?

Erin stops.

                       KEITH
What don't I know? It couldn't be
anything major. I mean, I know you
don't have a drug or drinking
problem. You're not suicidal.
You're not pregnant. Well, you
couldn't be because you're still a
virgin.

Erin looks at her watch.

                       ERIN
Look, I REALLY have to get to
class.

                       KEITH
You're not a - Are you kidding me?

Lily comes up behind Keith.

                       LILY
Come on, Erin! We're really late!

                       ERIN
Alright. I'm coming.

Lily walks away from them. Erin follows, but Keith pulls her
back.

71.

                       ERIN
Keith-

                       KEITH
We went out, we... We kissed. You
even went out with my best friend!
And you didn't tell me! I THOUGHT
I KNEW YOU, ERIN!

Erin looks around and realizes other kids are listening.
Keith is heavily breathing.

                       ERIN
Shh! Keep your voice down!

                       KEITH
KEEP MY- No. You know what. No. I
should have never apologized for
calling you a slut. I mean -
Where? When? With who? Why didn't
you tell me?

                       ERIN
Keith, this is not the place to
talk about this. Later, okay?

She runs past him into a classroom. Keith slams his fist
into a locker. Music: Fire Sign by David Berkeley fades in.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY

Erin and Keith are sitting together watching the rain hit
the bus windows. Erin has no expression on her face. They
are both talking very quietly.

                       KEITH
So... you don't know who did it to
you?

                       ERIN
Keith, I really don't want to talk
about it.

                       KEITH
Look, you brought it up and we
have to finish it.

                       ERIN
It was out of anger, okay? I never
wanted anyone to know. Jesus.

72.

                       KEITH
      (beat)
I'm the only one who knows?

                       ERIN
Yeah.

                       KEITH
      (beat)
...How old were you when-

                       ERIN
What part of 'don't want to talk
about it' don't you understand?

                       KEITH
Look, if you just answer some
simple questions, I promise I'll
drop the subject.

Erin looks at the window for a bit and then nods.

                       ERIN
Okay.
      (beat)
I was twelve... I don't know who
it was... and-

                       KEITH
Wait, wait! You were HOW OLD?
TWELVE! What's wrong with you?
Ugh. And I thought- God.

                       ERIN
Keith! You didn't let me finish!
That's not how it was at all.

                       KEITH
Forget it, okay? I don't care
anymore. Go seduce someone else
and- Just...

Keith stands up and grabs his bag.

                       KEITH
Get out of my sight.

                       ERIN
You can't be mad at me for this!

                       KEITH
Watch me.

73.

Keith goes and sits in the front of the bus until it stops
at their school and he gets off.

                       ERIN
      (to herself)
It wasn't my choice...

Music fades out.

EXT. SCHOOL BUS STOP - DAY

Erin gets off the bus as the rain falls on her. Erin watches
as Keith, in front of her, goes into the school. She quickly
puts up her umbrella and walks to the school door. Erin
closes her umbrella and walks inside.

INT. A STAIRCASE - DAY

It is still raining. Keith, Ray, and Alex are all sitting or
standing on and around a staircase. Erin walks over to them
and they all get quiet.

                       ERIN
...Why is everyone so quiet?

No one responds or has any expression that shows they are
listening or even acknowledging her existence.

                       ERIN
Okay... Ray, can I talk to you for
a second?

Ray shrugs and follows Erin around a corner. Alex and Keith
grab their bags and leave.

                       ERIN
So... I'm guessing he told all of
you.

                       RAY
...Yeah...

                       ERIN
      (sarcastically)
Great.

                       RAY
My only question is- Why didn't
you tell me before? I mean, some
of your friends said that you were
willing to have sex with me and I-

74.

                       ERIN
WHAT? No, sorry. That's not true.
I don't care what my friends say,
I was not planning on having sex
with you.

                       RAY
Right, you can't have sex with me.
Yet, you can fuck a guy who you
don't even know when you're
TWELVE-YEARS-OLD!

                       ERIN
It wasn't like that.

Erin leans against the nearest wall.

                       RAY
I wouldn't have done anything with
you if I knew before. I wouldn't
have even TALKED to you, let alone
betray my best friend by going out
with you. That's what you are,
isn't it? A stupid slut who makes
everyone else's life hell and then
makes herself the victim. I should
have known you were nothing but
trash when I first saw you. My
mind betrayed me. I knew a girl
like you would never go for me
unless you wanted to get some. The
next time you go out with a guy,
you should charge. At least get
something out of it. That will
show who you truly are.

Ray gets closer to her face.

                       RAY
A fucking slut who can't do
anything but ruin people's lives
and CRY. Fucking bitch.

Ray walks away from Erin and leaves her standing there. Erin
closes her eyes and bangs her head against the wall.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY

Can't find my way home fades in. Erin is sitting alone while
Keith is sitting across from her, not talking to her. These
are the opposite positions they had the last time they were
in a fight.

75.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY

Erin and her friend, Peter are walking down the corridor.
Peter has candy and Erin is trying to get him to give it to
her. She has her arms around Peter's neck and is whispering
in his ear to try and get him to give it to her. They are
both laughing.

Ray and some friends walk towards them and stop when they
notice Erin. Ray points her out.

                       RAY
      (mumbling)
Figures.

Erin notices Ray and his friends and takes her arms off of
Peter. She watches as they move past her.

Music fades out.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Erin is on the phone. She is sitting on her desk chair. Her
knees are shaking.

                       KEITH (O.S.)
I just don't know what to say...

                       ERIN
Look, I'm really sorry for not
telling you earlier. I just didn't
want anyone to know.

                       KEITH (O.S.)
I guess I understand. I don't
really know.

                       ERIN
Well, I can't turn back time and
tell you. So, I guess now you
know. And I'm sorry for not
telling you sooner. There is
nothing else I can do, so if
you're still mad, I understand.

                       KEITH (O.S.)
      (beat)
I guess I'm not mad anymore.

                       ERIN
So, I'll see you on the bus
tomorrow?

76.

                       KEITH (O.S.)
Yeah. Bye.

Erin hangs up the phone and jumps up and down.

INT. KEITH'S ROOM - NIGHT

Keith is sitting in his desk chair. He hangs up the phone
and turns around to face Alex. They 'high-five' and start
laughing.

      (to her bus driver)
Hey!

                       BUS DRIVER
Good morning, babe!

The bus driver closes the doors and Erin sits in her regular
seat. They start driving as the music fades out.

Erin sits there, smiling, until the doors open once again.
Keith gets on the bus.

                       ERIN
Hey! What's up?

Erin moves over to the window so that Keith can have a seat.
Keith doesn't make any comment or even look at her. He
continues walking and sits a couple rows behind her.

Erin tries to figure out what just happened. When she can't,
she heavily sighs and leans her head against the window.

Music: Gravity of Love by Enigma fades in. Erin sits at her

Erin is sitting at a table with her friends. Various other
kids are eating at other lunch tables. Erin sees Keith walk
in as he gives her the evil eye.

                       ERIN
I'll be right back.

Erin walks over to Keith. He pretends not to see her.

                       ERIN
What happened this morning? I
thought- Last night?

                       KEITH
Sorry, I don't talk to sluts.

He starts to walk away. Erin stops him.

                       ERIN
A slut? You mind telling me why
I'm a slut this time?

                       KEITH
Pure people are virgins. People
who aren't are dirty. Dirty people
are sluts. Got it?

Erin circles around him so that he can't walk away from her
again.

                       ERIN
I really don't understand how you
can be mad at me for this.

                       KEITH
You don't tell me this before,
when I felt like I loved you, but
you expect me to understand NOW.

78.

                       KEITH (cont'd)
After everything we had together.

                       ERIN
This! This is exactly why! I knew
you wouldn't get it. I didn't even
tell you everything because the
moment I open my mouth to say
something after how old I was,
you-

                       KEITH
No, its because you refuse to talk
about it.

                       ERIN
Keith, its my business, not yours.
Its my choice what I tell you.
Just because I'm not comfortable
telling you everything, doesn't
give you a right to be mad at me!

Ray walks over to Keith.

                       RAY
I thought we agreed to stop
talking to this whore.

Erin's eyes started to water up.

                       ERIN
Why? Neither of you know...
anything.

Ray and Keith start laughing.

                       RAY
Well, what we do know is no secret
anymore.

                       KEITH
Yeah, we'll make sure of it.

                       ERIN
      (beat)
But- But...

Keith and Ray walk away laughing.

Lily comes over, excitedly holding a picture of two girls
dressed in very skimpy outfits.

79.

                       LILY
Look what I found! I told you it's
perfect for Halloween!

Erin quickly wipes her face and puts on a fake smile.

                       ERIN
Yeah. That's really cool.

                       LILY
I bet you Ray will want you back
when he sees you in an outfit like
this.

                       ERIN
Yeah... I don't think so.

                       LILY
Oh, well. His loss.

Erin and Lily walk off together talking about what they
should wear.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Erin storms into her room and slams the door. She throws her
bag on the floor and jumps, face down on her bed. Her mother
slowly opens the door.

                       ERIN
      (muffled from her
       pillow)
Go away.

Erin's mom pretends not to hear her and walks towards her
bed. Erin turns her face to see her mother still standing
there.

                       ERIN
I said, "Go away."

                       ERIN'S MOM
What's wrong with you, today?

                       ERIN
I don't want to talk about it.

Erin buries her head back into her pillow. Erin's mom sits
on her bed besides her.

80.

                       ERIN'S MOM
Is it school? Are your grades low
again? Oh, I've had it with you,
Erin. Why can't you work hard at
school? Your father and I try very
hard to-

Erin groans.

                       ERIN'S MOM
...Okay. So, it's not school. Is
it Lily?

                       ERIN
Mom-

                       ERIN'S MOM
Did you two get into a fight or
something?

                       ERIN
No, Mom. Just-

                       ERIN'S MOM
It's those boys, isn't it?

                       ERIN
Mom, please, just get out-

                       ERIN'S MOM
I knew something was off with
them. They're pressuring you to
have sex, aren't they? Just
remember, you have the right to
say no. I don't want you seeing
those boys anymore.

Erin sits up.

                       ERIN
What part of "I DON'T WANT TO TALK
ABOUT IT" don't you understand?

                       ERIN'S MOM
I'm just trying to be a good
mother.

                       ERIN
Well, you're not doing a very good
job.

                       ERIN'S MOM
What is that supposed to mean?

81.

                       ERIN
It means that I'd rather talk to
any of my friend's parents because
they are smart enough to know what
"I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT"
is!

                       ERIN'S MOM
Good. I'm glad you have people you
can fucking talk to. But, next
time you have a problem, remember
there are other people in this
house. We don't ALWAYS want to
hear your sob story. We have
lives, too!

                       ERIN
WHAT? You were the one who-

                       ERIN'S MOM
Just because you're upset doesn't
mean that you have to spread it to
the entire house. Either tell me
what it is, so that I can help, or
get over it.

Erin gives her mother a really angry looks and starts to
breathe heavily.

                       ERIN
Get. Out. Now.

Erin's mom rolls her eyes and then gets up from the bed and
leaves the room.

INT. LILY'S ROOM - DAY

Erin and Lily have their Halloween outfits on. They look
exactly like the picture. Erin is putting her shoes on while
Lily is fixing her hair.

                       ERIN
You sure this isn't a little much?

                       LILY
It's Halloween. Relax.

Erin and Lily look at themselves in the mirror.

                       ERIN
Okay. Let's go.

82.

Lily and Erin grab their bags and walk out of Lily's room.

EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK - DAY

As the sun rises up, Erin and Lily walk up Broadway in their
outfits. In slow motion, they walk in unison. Music: Dig in
by Lenny Kravitz plays. The people around them gawk and
stare at their outfits. Construction workers stop what they
are doing to stare. Some men whistle. Erin and Lily laugh.
Delivery boys on bikes smile and wink at them. Erin and Lily
wink back. Back in real time, they reach Lily's bus stop and
the music fades out.

EXT. LILY'S BUS STOP - DAY

Lily, Erin, and a couple of other kids are at the bus stop.
The kids are staring and laughing at Lily and Erin's
outfits.

                       ERIN
Who's on your bus?

                       LILY
Oh, TONS of people. But, they will
all be on the bus already. I have
the last stop.

                       ERIN
Oh, okay.

The bus comes and the kids at the bus stop get on. Erin and
Lily follow.

Music: Existentialism on Prom Night by Stray Light Run fades
in.

INT. SCHOOL BUS - DAY

Erin walks on the bus to find a huge group of kids gawking
at her outfit. She finally spots an empty seat and walks
past the kids who are all whispering about her. Some of them
don't even bother to be quiet about it.

                       GIRL 1
Wow, she's finally dressing like
she acts.

Erin starts to turn to try and defend herself, but she
decides against it.

83.

                       BOY 1
Wait, so first she slept with
Keith and then with Ray? Or was it
the other way around?

Erin's face is turning bright red.

                       GIRL 2
She was 12 when she had sex?!
Isn't that a bit YOUNG?

                       BOY 2
PUT ON SOME CLOTHES!

Lily pushes Erin a bit faster so they can get to their seat.

                       BOY 3
I hope she doesn't jump on one of
us and start having sex with us.

                       BOY 4
Ooh la la. Erin the sex master.

Erin literally throws herself into the seat. Lily looks at
her really weird. People continue to whisper.

                       GIRL 3
Costumes like that should be saved
for people who are PRETENDING to
be sluts, not real ones.

                       GIRL 4
Her mother must be so proud.

Lily shoved her a little.

                       LILY
Erin... Is there something you're
not telling me?

Erin ignores Lily and tries to block out the continuous
comments around her.

                       LILY
      (sweetly)
Come on, Erin. You can tell me.

                       ERIN
Just leave me alone, Lil.

                       GIRL 5
-and of course she chose the
biggest loser to do it with.

84.

                       LILY
No, Erin. What's going-

                       GIRL 6
She's probably on the pill.

                       ERIN
Lily! Drop it! Now!

Lily and Erin stop talking. The people around them continue
to talk. Erin pretends she can't hear.

                       BOY 5
I didn't know they let girls out
of the Red Light District.

                       GIRL 7
Can prostitutes really start this
early?

                       BOY 1
Oh, I get it! So, she slept with
Ray WHILE she was going out with
Keith and then the other way
around.

                       BOY 6
Slut.

                       GIRL 1
Whore.

                       BOY 7
Trash

INT. SCHOOL CLASSROOM - DAY

Erin pulls Keith into a classroom. She has obviously been
crying. The room is badly lit as the only lights in the room
are the daylight.

Music fades out.

                       ERIN
How can you possibly think making
someone feel miserable for
something they can't even control
is a good thing?

                       KEITH
Nice to see you too, Erin.

85.

                       ERIN
Why am I even discussing this with
you?

                       KEITH
Because I'm ruining your life and
there is nothing you can do about
it.

                       ERIN
      (beat)
You're right. There's nothing I
can do about the fact that I was
RAPED... And somehow you seem to
find it FUNNY.

Keith steps back.

                       KEITH
      (concerned)
You were what?

Erin realizes she is crying.

                       ERIN
Yeah.
      (beat)
This is why I didn't want to talk
about it. I had no interest in
telling anyone.

Keith sees that Alex is looking through the window of the
classroom door. Keith realizes he is being nice to her.

                       KEITH
Rape, huh? That would make a good
story. See ya!

Keith opens the door.

                       KEITH
By the way, nice outfit. It really
suits you.

Keith walks out the door.

                       ALEX (O.S.)
What was that about?

Alex and Keith walk away as Erin sits there crying until
Lily walks in the door. She sees Erin crying and runs over
to her.

86.

                       LILY
Oh my god! Erin are you okay?!

                       ERIN
Yea... I just- There's a lot I
have to tell you.

                       LILY
Okay...

Lily looks at Erin really scared. Erin curls her feet up
into a ball and hides her head.

                       ERIN
      (muffled)
I was raped... when I was
twelve...

                       LILY
      (beat)
Are you- Are you serious?

Erin nods her head. Lily sits down on the floor next to her.

                       LILY
How did it- I mean- Do you want to
talk about it?

Erin picks her head up from her knees. Her cheeks are
streaming with tears. She attempts to speak while she is
bawling. Sounds of heavy breathing like the ones at the
beginning. They increase as each memory is revealed.

                       ERIN
I was- I- At camp... At the
movies...
      (beat)
This guy was looking at me and...
      (beat)
I... I had to go to the bathroom.
I didn't think... I came out of
the stall and-
      (beat)
He was just standing there...
Looking at me... I felt like- I
was being abused... by his eyes.
      (beat)
I tried to go- I tried to walk
around him. But, he shoved and he-

Erin starts hysterically crying. Lily rubs her shoulder.

87.

                       LILY
Erin, its okay. You don't have to-

                       ERIN
He pulled a knife on me, Lil! What
the fuck was I supposed to do?
      (quietly)
He said- He told me that I would
never see the... The light of day
again if I screamed...
      (beat)
I didn't- I panicked. I didn't
have any control over my mind...
He- He locked the door and... I...
I... I couldn't do anything about
it.
      (beat)
It just was- It happened... And I
just stood there.

Erin sinks her head into her knees again. Her crying is
getting progressively louder as Lily wraps her arms around
Erin and tried to calm her down.

                       LILY
      (beat)
It's okay, it's alright. Do you
want me to go get someone or-

Erin shakes her head. Lily pulls away from the hug.

                       LILY
Well, Erin... Why didn't you tell
anyone in the first place?
Couldn't you have reported him or
something?

                       ERIN
I tried, I tried to think of
something... Something to get him
or to just- just...
      (beat)
I was terrified... Maybe I thought
if I didn't tell anyone- I don't
know... Somehow I thought I could
put it all behind me...

                       LILY
      (beat)
What made you tell me this? Why
now?

88.

                       ERIN
      (beat)
I was- I was talking to Keith
before... I thought I could trust
him, you know? He was so close to
me and everything... I felt like
the longer I waited to tell
someone, the more pain I felt
inside... You know that way your
stomach feels when it is holding
something inside. Like... almost
as if you ate a pot of hot,
steaming guilt...
      (beat)
I don't know why I felt guilty, I
just- He blew it up in my face.
He... Ray knows now- I think Alex
might know...

                       LILY
All those comments on the bus?
Those were from this? I can't
believe Keith would do that!

Erin starts bawling again.

                       LILY
Oh, Erin. I know, I know. It's
gonna be okay. I promise.

Lily gives Erin a huge hug. They sit there for awhile, just
hugging.

                       LILY
Well, I guess we missed P.E.

Erin laughs and looks at the clock.

                       LILY
Come on. You're gonna be fine.
I'll make sure of it.

Lily stands and pulls Erin to her feet. Erin gives Lily one
last hug and wipes her tears. Lily opens the door and Erin
walks out. Lily follows and pats Erin on the back.

INT. SCHOOL CLASSROOM - DAY

Music fades back in. Erin is in English class. Her teacher
is handing back papers. The teacher gets to Erin and shakes
his head. He places a paper that reads C- at the top. Erin

runs her hands along the top of her head and closes her
eyes.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY

Later: Erin is at her locker. She takes down the picture she
has of Keith with a heart around it and rips it up. Larry
comes over to her as she closes the locker door. The music
continues.

                       LARRY
Hey, Erin. I have a question.

Erin puts on a fake smile.

                       ERIN
Sure, go ahead.

                       LARRY
Well, is it true?
      (beat)
I mean, are they true? All the
rumors?

Erin's smile fades.

                       ERIN
Fuck off, Larry.

Erin walks away from Larry and down the corridor. She tries
not to look up as various people turn to look at her or give
her the evil eye. Erin's pace picks up and before she knows
it, she is running out of there. Music fades out.

INT. ERIN'S ROOM - NIGHT

Later: Erin is sitting in her desk chair while she is on the
phone. She is running her fingers over the side of a knife.

                       ERIN
Sometimes, I just want to do
something so horrible. Just to get
revenge.
      (beat)
I don't know, like kill myself in
front of him. Just to see his
face.

                       LILY (O.S.)
Erin, stop. That's really serious.
Don't say that.

90.

                       ERIN
      (not listening)
Like, I would just chop my head
off or something. Let him see the
pain. Make him feel like I feel.
      (getting angry)
The days that go by where everyone
I know thinks things about me that
aren't true. People telling you to
your face that they think you're a
slut. If that's what it takes to
get him to realize what he's
doing, then that is what I'll do.

                       LILY (O.S.)
Erin! Listen to me! You don't have
to kill yourself to show him how
much pain you're going through.

The knife cuts Erin on her finger.

                       ERIN
      (finally listening)
Right, right. Ouch!

                       LILY (O.S.)
      (terrified)
What happened?

                       ERIN
It's nothing, I just cut - poked
myself with a pencil.

Erin rummages through her desk to try and find a band-aid.
She spots a picture of herself with Keith and Ray. She stops
rummaging.

                       LILY (O.S.)
Hello? Erin!

A drop of blood from her finger lands on Keith's face. Erin
smiles. Music: Ready to go by Equalizer fades in.

                       LILY (O.S.)
Erin? You there?

                       ERIN
Yeah, I'm here. Listen, I gotta go
do... something. Bye.

Erin hangs up the phone.

INT. LILY'S ROOM - NIGHT

Lily looks at the phone and then hangs it up. She looks at
the floor and is getting very worried.

INT. ERIN'S HALLWAY - NIGHT

Erin sneaks past her mother and runs to the front door. She
opens it and walks out.

EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK - NIGHT

The sun is setting. 0:30 of the music starts playing as Erin
runs out of her building and down the street. She continues
to run several blocks, pushing people out of her way and
running through red lights until she gets to Keith's
apartment building. She stands there looking at the entrance
and smiles.

INT. KEITH'S LOBBY - NIGHT

From outside, Erin can see that the doorman is watching
television and not paying attention. She walks past him,
calmly. He doesn't notice her and continues watching the
sports game. Erin presses the elevator button and walks in.

INT. KEITH'S HALLWAY - NIGHT

Music skips to 4:40. The elevator doors open and Erin runs
out. She runs all the way down the hallway until she reaches
the last door. Erin pulls out her knife. She smiles. The
music ends.

                       ERIN
      (to herself)
This is it. My sweet revenge.

Erin knocks on the door and waits, breathing heavily.

There is no response from behind the door. Erin knocks again
and rings the doorbell. She starts crying.

                       ERIN
No! No! NO! Look- Look what you
did! KEITH! I... I...

Erin starts banging repeatedly on the door with her fists.

92.

                       ERIN
Come and see what you did! The
PAIN! The PAIN YOU HAVE CAUSED!
Look at what - Look... WHY AREN'T
YOU HERE?

Erin falls to her knees. Tears are streaming down her face.

                       ERIN
I... Just come out and look...
Please... My- My revenge. KEITH!

She sits there crying, breathing heavily. Her phone rings.
Erin sighs and reaches for the phone in her pocket. She
answers it.

                       ERIN
WHAT?

                       LILY (O.S.)
Erin! Oh my god, Erin. I thought
you were dead. All that talk about
killing yourself and then- I
called again. Your mom - she
didn't know where you were. Oh,
Erin. You have no idea how happy I
am to hear your voice.

Erin doesn't respond but continues to cry.

                       LILY (O.S.)
      (beat)
Are you - Are you at Keith's
house?

                       ERIN
How the hell did you know that?

                       LILY ().S.)
      (relieved)
Well, all that talk about going
over there. And then I talked to
your mom and she didn't know where
you were. So I figured that you
went there. I told your mom what
happened and she's on the way to
pick you up.

                       ERIN
She's WHAT?!

Erin's mom turns the corner and sees Erin sitting on the
floor.

93.

INT. LILY'S ROOM - NIGHT

Lily is sitting on her bed while she talks on the phone.

                       ERIN (O.S.)
Hi, Mom.

Lily smiles.

                       LILY
I think I better go.

Lily hangs up the phone and lets a big sigh of relief out.

INT. KEITH'S HALLWAY - NIGHT

Erin hangs up the phone. Her mom runs towards her.

                       ERIN
What are you doing-

Erin's mom reaches her and throws her arms around Erin.

                       ERIN'S MOM
      (sobbing)
Aw, baby. Aw, Erin, Erin, Erin. I
would die if anything ever
happened to you. Don't ever scare
me like that again, okay?
      (beat)
I'm so glad you're okay. I nearly
had a heart attack. Aw, baby
cakes, I'm here. I'm here.

Erin slides her hands around her mom and starts to cry.

                       ERIN
      (through tears)
Mom, I just wanted him to see what
I - Mom, it was so- Mom... I just
wanted revenge.

                       ERIN'S MOM
Sweetie, Keith and Ray are
deliberatly trying to make you
unhappy. They obviously enjoyed
it. Wouldn't they still be happy
if you were unhappy? Revenge would
be you being happy. That's what
they don't want. They don't want
you to live your own life.

94.

                       ERIN
I know, Mom. I just... I wanted to
do something that had an impact.
Mom...

Erin and her mother keep hugging.

                       ERIN'S MOM
You can tell me all about it when
we get home, okay?

                       ERIN
Yeah... There's a lot I need to
tell you.

Erin's mom and Erin get up and walk with their arms around
each other back down the hallway. Erin's mom presses the
elevator door button. They wait for the doors to open. The
two of them walk in.

                       ERIN
Mom?

                       ERIN'S MOM
Yes, sweetie?

                       ERIN
      (beat)
I love you.

                       ERIN'S MOM
Aw, honey. I love you more than
words can say.

The elevator doors close as Erin and her mother hug.

INT. SCHOOL CAMPUS - DAY

It's raining. Various kids splash in the puddles. 1:44 of
Que Sera Sera by Pink Martini begins as Erin, Lily,
Christine, Tracy, Katie, Cass, Stefani, Diana and various
other girls are running through the hallways. They are all
soaking wet. The girls are running towards the door that
leads them to the school field. They all look happy, but
Erin more than others. All the girls run past a staircase
where Keith, Alex, and Ray are sitting. Erin stops and looks
at them as the other girls run past her. The music fades out
at 2:33. Her smile fades as she stares at each guy. Keith
raises his eyebrows and shares puzzled looks with Ray.
Music: Story of a Girl by Nine Days begins to play. On the
word, "smile" of the song, Erin smiles and runs outside.

95.

Keith, Alex, and Ray all look mad. Erin and her friends run
across the field. They dance in the rain.

FADE OUT.

Excellent work! I love this script! As Vinicius Gomes said, the music was very strengthening. Your characters were some of the greatest I've ever seen. You will be a great writer! To be honest with you, if I was a multi-million dollar director like Steven Spielburg or something, I would get you as my writer! Good job!

From Vinicius Gomes Date 7/31/2007 ***1/2
Nice story, I really like it. I like how you put music in it, for example 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Story of a Girl' all helped strengthen the central theme of the story. I also think the title of your screenplay is very catchy. The ending was great, it teaches us a great lesson: Real Friends (Lil) and parents (Erin's mom) will always be there for you, and false friends (Ray, Keith and Alex) are just... using you. Great job
