James Bond 007 - Born From Fire
by Robin Youlton

Rated: PG   Genre: Action/Adventure   User Review: ***
The movie Casino Royale has successfully re-launched the James Bond series in a bold, new direction. Daniel Craig is superb as the new, raw Bond. Casino Royale takes Ian Fleming’s original first Bond script and sets it within the modern day. However, there are still discrepancies that span the whole James Bond series and those are carried through into Casino Royale. For example, in the earlier movie Goldeneye, Judi Dench’s M had referred to Bond (Pierce Bronson) as ‘a sexist, misogynist dinosaur, a relic of the Cold War’. In Casino Royale, M makes reference to ‘9/11’ as a past event, and Bond is active within MI-6 before he gains 00 status in the year 2006. In Casino Royale, Bond drives the latest Aston Martin DBS, but wins an Aston Martin DB5 1964 (ala Goldfinger) in a casino game. In the real world, the film media press are rife with gossip about whether ‘Bond is played better by Daniel Craig or Sean Connery’. The problem as ever with a ‘new Bond’ is that the lineage of James Bond has to be ignored whilst the new actor is allowed to establish himself into the rejuvenated role. The enclosed script sample (Act 1) functions as a mechanism to correct that lineage, to put the record straight. In Act 1 you will see that Daniel Craig’s ‘new Bond’ is in fact just that – a totally new person undertaking an MI-6 Special Agent role under the pseudonym of ‘James Bond’. Daniel Craig’s Bond was literally ‘Born From Fire’. A former Special Forces officer, he was enlisted to MI-6 via an explosive faked death scene during a terrorist hostage rescue mission. Just like reality, there have been many ‘James Bond’ assignees before him. Act 1 of the script rams the point home as a former ‘James Bond’ makes a guest appearance as an elderly, retired ‘Commander James Bond’. A former Bond actor, ideally Sean Connery, should play the role of the Commander. This new script James Bond 007 – Born From Fire will enable the Bond series to proceed on a firm, established lineage. We will see Daniel Craig’s character within the correct context, as the new Special Agent dealing with today’s crisis, in today’s world.

FADE IN:

EXT. HEREFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND - DAY

Grey sky, dark clouds turning to rain – almost a black &
white landscape. Rolling hills with winding roads.

EXT. CHURCH GRAVEYARD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

On the outskirts of a village, there is a church with a
small graveyard. Dry leaves scatter wildly with the wind
across the church pathway.

Bond is there, alone, standing at the foot of a grave. He's
dressed immaculately in a black trench coat and dark blue
suit. He is looking downwards, brooding, and starring at the
grave before him.

Bond is recalling a past trauma; vivid rapid-fire memories
are played back.

EXT. POLICE CORDONED OFF CITY STREETS, LONDON - DAY

A high-energy scene, a government office block in a city –
London. Police cars sirens sounding all around; onlooker
pedestrians are being herded back by police officers.

INT. GOVT BUILDING, 2ND FLOOR, MAIN ROOM, LONDON - DAY

On the second floor a figure peeks through a window to
observe the scenes below. Inside the room we see the figure
full length. He’s holding a mobile phone to his ear and a
pistol in his other hand. At his feet a body of a
businessman lays face down, dead.

                       TERRORIST LEADER
Bring me the next

Two other terrorists move to a closed door and promptly open
it. In the next room hostages (hands behind their heads)
glare into the room, terrified at the sight of the body.

More terrorists are present in this room, armed with machine
guns. One lurches out for a young man, the man leans back
defensively, then another two terrorists drag him forcefully
from the floor. As he is pushed into the main room a
middle-aged women yelps with fear, she’s physically shaking.

The Terrorist Leader points to the floor nearby the body. A

2.

terrorist kicks at the back of the man's knees and he
stumbles to the ground in agony.

                       TERRORIST LEADER
      (Into his mobile
       phone)
Irrespective! You have tried our
patience; you have failed to
comply with our demands. Our will
is greater than yours; another of
your people will be slain.

The Terrorist Leader moves to the young man, and calmly aims
the gun 2 feet from the back of his head. The voice on the
phone catches his attention.

INT. POLICE INCIDENT VAN, STREET, LONDON - DAY

                       POLICE NEGOTIATOR
      (Into a telephone)
No listen, we have been given full
authority. I repeat full
authority!

A police operator is sitting to his rear, whispering
frantically into his headset microphone.

                       POLICE OPERATOR
      (Whispering)
Yes, yes, the situation is dire,
no control, we have absolutely no
control!

The Police Operator listens intently to the reply on his
headset then spins wildly round to face the Police
Negotiator. They both lock eyes.

                       POLICE OPERATOR
      (Mouthing - no
       voice)
Thirty seconds!

The Police Negotiator nods to acknowledge him, and then
turns back to the telephone.

                       POLICE NEGOTIATOR
      (Speaking slowly)
I have the full backing from the
UK government. The Prime Minister
himself has authorised it.

A bead of sweat rolls down his forehead.

3.

                       POLICE NEGOTIATOR
      (Speaking slowly)
So, please no more killings. You
have it all, no one needs to get
hurt, no one.

INT. GOVT BUILDING, 2ND FLOOR, MAIN ROOM, LONDON - DAY

Suddenly the ROOM ERUPTS with smoke and explosive flashes.
A group of black silhouetted figures scramble through
shattered windows. Almost instantly there is a RATTLE of
gun fire, then shorter controlled bursts. A Special Forces
soldier shouts an order to the hostages, his voice sounding
rasped and metallic through his gas mask.

                       SPECIAL FORCES SOLDIER
Everybody stay down!

A second soldier forcefully barges a hostage to the floor

An injured terrorist staggers to his knees, in an instant he
is PEPPERED with bullets and drops motionless.

Each room is thick with grey smoke. The soldiers move
quickly, purposefully, guns at eye level. A soldier fires
three quick BURSTS then the guns fall silent. All around
the main room terrorist bodies lie crumbled, still. Several
hostages moan with fear. At the main exit door a Special
Forces (Green) Troop Leader steadies himself, then surveys
the room behind him. He taps his neck mounted microphone

                       GREEN TROOP LEADER
Waypoint 1 reached, area secure.
Green Troop is ready, over.

EXT. GOVT BUILDING ROOFTOP, LONDON - DAY

The message is played back into the headset of another Troop
Leader. He is leading a team of four other Special Forces
soldiers, all are stepped on rope ladders attached to the
underside of a black military helicopter. They drop five
feet to the rooftop of the government building. One soldier
hastily secures ropes to an air conditioning outlet. Two
others scurry to take up opposite positions at a large
triangular glass sky light. Flashes of light and muffled gun
fire can be seen below.

The two soldiers both place a hand sized circular detonator
on the glass. They look up for the order from their Troop
Leader. He crouches nearby, holding his machine gun low,

4.

one hand pressed against his headset receiving instructions.
He taps his neck mounted microphone to speak.

                       RED TROOP LEADER
Red Troop are set.

He looks up and nods to the soldiers. They flick a switch
on each detonator, in a second the entire glass skylight is
shattered exposing a gaping hole to the inside of the
building. As the glass crashes below, the four soldier’s
paraglide down ropes into the inner stairwell. Two
terrorists emerge from the third floor landing, firing
frantically upwards.

                       RED TROOP LEADER
Red Troop now at 4, GO GO GO!

INT. GOVT BUILDING, 2ND FLOOR LANDING, LONDON - DAY

A large double door opens on the second floor landing, four
Special Forces soldiers charge outwards. The two terrorists
above are caught off-guard, they turn too late as the
soldiers open fire making light work of them, and continue
charging down stairs to the first floor. One soldier pauses
to fire at further targets below.

INT. GOVT BUILDING, 4TH FLOOR, CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY

The fourth floor, Red Troop are running, kicking open doors
and checking each room for hostiles. Red Troop Leader
enters a large conference room. Before him a Terrorist
steps backwards shielding himself with a young women grabbed
by her waist. The Terrorist does not appear to be armed,
but he is holding a handheld device.

                       RED TROOP LEADER
Let go of the girl!

He lets his gun spin on its shoulder strap to drop down to
his rear left side. Slowly he walks forwards towards the
Terrorist and Girl, his arms down, hand gloves palm open.

                       RED TROOP LEADER
      (Calmly)
Let her go.

The Terrorist is young, early twenties. He looks scared,
crazed; he takes further steps backwards dragging the girl
weeping with him.

Red Troop Leader takes a further step; he is now several

5.

feet away from the other soldiers who are guarding his
position from the office door.

                       RED TROOP SOLDIER 1
Come on Boss, let’s sort this!

Red Troop Soldier 2 is racing his eyes around the office.
His eyes widen as he spots something.

ANGLE ON Red Troop Leader's back, he takes off his gas mask.

The Young Terrorist stops retreating, half-smiles, and says
something softly to the Red Troop Leader. The girl is let
loose and she stumbles then charges away and out through the
doorway past the guarding soldiers.

                       RED TROOP SOLDIER 2
It’s wired! Charges!

Red Troop Leader stands facing the Young Terrorist; the
Young Terrorist is smiling confidently straight back at him.
He presses a button on his handheld device.

KABOOM a massive explosion, the soldiers at the doorway are
blown back to the entrance stairway by air from the blast.

EXT. GOVT BUILDING’S CITY STREET, LONDON - DAY

Almost a third of the fourth floor erupts in flames. Debris
crashes to the street below sending uniformed and plain
clothed police officers scattering for cover. On lookers
yelp with shock.

INT. POLICE INCIDENT VAN, STREET, LONDON - DAY

Inside the Police Incident Van, the Police Operator grabs
both ears of his headphones, then darts his eyes to the BBC
News coverage on his tabletop TV (TV footage plays back the
explosion from street level view).

                       POLICE OPERATOR
Holy shit!

INT. GOVT BUILDING, 4TH FLORR CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY

Inside, the smoke clears. Two of the Red Troop soldiers
step carefully forward, and then the third follows limping.
The Conference Room floor is almost completely gone. The
nearest soldier pulls off his gas mask, exasperated he looks
down. Fifteen feet below amongst the charred timber and

6.

plaster lay the Red Troop Leader and the Young Terrorist,
their bodies intact but twisted, motionless - dead.

Overhead POV of the front soldier looking down on the Red
Troop Leader’s body.

EXT. CHURCH GRAVEYARD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Overhead POV, Bond is looking downwards at the grave. His
eyes trace down the gravestone inscription:

HE SHOWED COURAGE, ENDEAVOUR AND STRENGTH, AND GAVE HIS ALL
FOR THE SAKE OF FREEDOM AND LIBERTY.

His eyes settle on a military regimental emblem, with the
inscription:

READY FOR ANYTHING.

Bond smirks slightly.

A cold wind whistles past. Bond turns up his coat collar
then marches away, CLANGING the churchyard gate shut behind
him.

EXT. CHURCH ROADSIDE, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Bonds shoes SCUFF on gravel as he approaches the Aston
Martin DBS parked nearby. Bond unlocks the car with a
remote control key, and then makes for the driver's door
handle. Bond pauses, he hears an ENGINE NOISE approaching
and decelerating. Looking at the reflection from the
driver’s door window he sees a motor bike coming to a stop
on the road 30 meters away to his rear right side (parallel
with the churchyard).

Bond looks hard at the Motor Biker reflection. The Motor
Biker is dressed in black shiny leather, black helmet with
mirror black visor. He’s mounted upon a powerful race bike,
the silver alloy exhaust emitting a throaty BURRING noise.
Bond pulls at the car’s door handle and gets in. He pauses
for a second, sensing the Motor Biker directly to his right
side, then fires the car ignition. The car ROARS into life
as Bond drives away, the car scattering gravel spray behind
it.

INT. ASTON MARTIN DBS, COUNTRY ROAD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Bond stares at the rear mirror for a second, but there is
nothing there – just an empty country road disappearing

7.

quickly behind him. He checks his driver’s door mirror,
also nothing. He half-glances at the passenger door mirror
- there he is, the Motor Biker is behind, distant but
gaining fast.

EXT. COUNTRY ROAD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Bond races on, makes a hasty sharp turn left followed
quickly with an exit to a side road on his right. The car
rolls to the left slightly, but easily maintains road grip.
Bond is now accelerating along a narrow country lane when
suddenly he grinds the car’s breaks hard. 20 meters in
front a farmer on a bicycle is herding a small pack of
sheep. The Farmer glares annoyingly at Bond. The sheep
start to envelope the car.

INT. ASTON MARTIN DBS, COUNTRY LANE, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Bond looks in his rear mirror, then turns around to check
through the back window. Nothing - no sign of the Motor
Biker. Bond sees the Farmer slowly cycling away through his
rear mirror. The car pulls away slowly.

EXT. VILLAGE CROSSROAD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Bond is now approaching the centre of the village, arriving
at a crossroad junction.

INT. ASTON MARTIN DBS, VILLAGE CROSSROAD - DAY

A farm truck rumbles past to the left obscuring Bond’s view
forwards. As the truck moves past Bond’s eyes dart to the
opposite side of the road. The Motor Biker is right there
facing him on the opposite side of the crossroad junction,
engine BURRING, gloved fists grabbing the handle bar,
poised, ready to race.

EXT. VILLAGE CROSSROAD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

The reflection of the Aston Martin casts a reflection in the
Motor Biker's helmet visor; he’s looking directly straight
back at Bond.

INT. ASTON MARTIN DBS, VILLAGE CROSSROAD - DAY

Likewise, inside the car Bond is looking straight at the
Motor Biker. They are both alone at the crossroad, both

8.

powerful engines idling, BURRING - a face-off. Bond taps the
car’s accelerator.

EXT. VILLAGE CROSSROAD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Outside, the car engine GROWLS across the road. There’s no
response from the Motor Biker, he remains frozen - poised.

INT. ASTON MARTIN DBS, VILLAGE CROSSROAD - DAY

Bond looks pensive, and then decisive, he flicks a couple of
buttons on the driver’s wheel. A colour LCD screen ignites
on the central console. A heat sensing panorama of the
scene directly in front is displayed. The motorbike is
shown with its engine area red, the Motor Biker as a light
purple figure mounted upon it. A message appears in the
LCD’s lower screen TARGET SCANNING, then TARGET SELECT? A
circular cross-hair is set on the Motor Biker’s purple
figure.

EXT. VILLAGE CROSSROAD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Almost hidden in the car’s front grill, a gun nozzle moves
fluidly to the left, and then halts.

Still no movement from the Motor Biker

INT. ASTON MARTIN DBS, VILLAGE CROSSROAD - DAY

Bond takes his eyes away from the LCD and looks back out
through the window as he hears a JINGLE from a shop door
closing. A man and a young boy appear to the right,
preparing to cross the road directly in front of the Motor
Biker.

EXT. VILLAGE CROSSROAD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

The man cautions the boy as he surges towards the roadside.
The boy giggles but obliges, staying close to the man as
they start to cross the road.

INT. ASTON MARTIN DBS, VILLAGE CROSSROAD - DAY

Bond’s gaze is distracted by a change in image on the LCD
screen. The man and boy are now also shown on the screen as
heat sensed figures, moving towards the Motor Biker. The
LCD screen now shows the cross-hair switching between each

9.

of the three purple figures, pausing slightly on each with
the message TARGET SELECT?

EXT. VILLAGE HIGH STREET, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Bond reacts; he pulls away from the junction turning right
and heads into the village high street. The car is moving
quickly. An elderly couple attempting to cross the road
almost fail to see the approaching car, startled they jump
backwards.

INT. ASTON MARTIN DBS, VILLAGE HIGH STREET - DAY

Bond checks his rear view mirror. Dead centre of the
mirror, the Motor Biker is closing in. Bond accelerates
harder, the Motor Biker proceeds after him. Annoyed, Bond
slams his foot hard on the accelerator. He is going really
fast now, cars on the opposite side of the road WHOOSH by.

EXT. OPEN COUNRTY ROAD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Soon the car is in open countryside. A side road emerges to
the left; suddenly another Motor Biker appears gliding onto
the road behind him.

INT. ASTON MARTIN DBS, OPEN COUNRTY ROAD - DAY

Bond does a double take of the other Motor Biker and this
new one. Both are identically dressed, same bikes, exact
doubles. The other Motor Biker joins the pursuit, quickly
coming up to pace with the other. Bond sees them both
buzzing nearby the rear of the car. Bond checks the car’s
dashboard, the speedometer reads 95 mph. A large lorry
WHOOSHES by on the left. Bond sees in the driver’s mirror a
Motor Biker is coming in close. The Motor Biker is almost
parallel with the driver’s door when suddenly there is a
loud metallic CLANK coming from the outside of the car.

EXT. OPEN COUNRTY ROAD, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

Outside, near the rear petrol tank inlet a hand sized silver
box is now firmly attached, upon it a small LED light blinks
green.

INT. ASTON MARTIN DBS, OPEN COUNRTY ROAD - DAY

A female voice sounds an alert within the car

10.

                       CAR FEMALE VOICE
      (Repeatedly)
Attention, Attention, foreign
object placed on car.

The car’s colour LCD panel lights up with a line drawing of
the car, the passenger rear side blinks red.

Bond darts his eyes to the LCD panel, then the rear view
mirror. He sees both Motor Bikers pulling off, reducing
speed, and increasing the distance between them and him.
Ahead the road bends right towards the crest of a hill. Bond
is thinking fast, he takes his foot off the accelerator and
presses a latch on the centre console. A small handheld
sized object protrudes from the console. Bond grabs it with
his left hand, pressing an on\off button. The console LCD
panel reads PARTNERING WITH REMOTE. The Partner Remote
device initialises with a small LCD screen, instantly a 77
mph figure appears. The device has a small thumb operated
joystick, Bond rolls his left thumb and the mph drops down
to 62 mph. The car reacts in turn by reducing speed.

The car is almost at the crest of the hill. Bond checks his
rear view mirror again, the Motor Bikers are well behind,
but tailing. He twists left in his seat and snatches a
black object out of the centre arm console, and then he
twists right and pulls at the door handle. As the car dips
over the crest of the hill, Bond lurches out of the car.

EXT. COUNTRY ROAD HILLTOP, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

The two Motor Bikers appear over the crest of the hill
riding side by side. They are still travelling
reasonability fast. They slow when they see the car in the
near distance, its travelling much slower than before. One
of the Motor Bikers holds up a small handheld device, a
remote detonator, and glances across to the other. The other
waves a hand down to ‘hold-off’, then races off closer
towards the car.

EXT. COUNRTY ROAD DOWNHILL, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

As they both close in the car comes to a standstill.
Likewise, the Motor Bikers stop one behind each other some
10 meters away. One dismounts and unzips a large waste
pocket, retrieving a pistol. The other, his bike turned
side on, stays mounted, on guard, he is now also armed with
a pistol. He looks at the other Biker now walking
cautiously to the car.

Biker 1 pulls up his visor as he arrives at the car. He

11.

looks at the driver’s door window, and leans across to grab
at the handle. The car is idling, the engine BURRING
menacingly. He snatches a look back to the other biker, but
he is looking the other way checking the road behind. In
one quick movement Biker 1 pulls open the door and he spins
face on to the inside cabin, both hands aiming his pistol,
ready to fire. The car’s cabin is empty, Bond has
disappeared.

Biker 1 darts an anxious look to Biker 2, just that instant
Biker 2 JOLTS WILDLY as 4 bullets rip into his torso. Biker
2 slumps forward, his bike SCRAPES loudly to the floor.
Biker 1 looks on astounded. Biker 2 drops the remote
detonator as he falls; it slides within a few feet of Biker
1.

Biker 1 looks back up to the hill; he sees a dark stationary
cloaked figure in the distance.

EXT. COUNTRY ROAD HILLTOP, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

It’s Bond, he’s aiming a gun back down towards Biker 1.

EXT. COUNRTY ROAD DOWNHILL, HEREFORDSHIRE - DAY

A red dot traces up Biker 1’s torso. He hesitates, and then
makes a move to pick up the remote detonator. CLAT, a
single bullet rips into Biker 1’s stomach, he reels forward,
silently screaming, writhing in agony. Bond sprints down
towards him, his pace drops to a walk as he approaches, gun
held low. Bond is now at Biker 1’s feet. Biker 1 has one
hand obscured, the other holding his pistol. Bond steps
hard on the pistol hand causing Biker 1 to groan. Bond aims
the gun sight straight at Biker 1’s head. Biker 1 looks up;
the red beam of the gun's laser sight blurs his eyesight.

                       BOND
Tell me who sent you, and I’ll
take the pain away.

                       BIKER 1
      (Spluttering)
Join me in paradise.

Biker 1’s obscured hand is now revealed; he’s holding the
detonator and presses the button. Bond realises
immediately, he darts his eyes to the nearby car, and the
silver box LED blinks red. Bond is sprinting away; he
jettisons the gun and pulls out the PARTNER REMOTE from his
inner suit pocket, it reads 0mph. Bond rolls his thumb
frantically over the device, the figure changes from 0mph to

12.

10mph, then 23mph. Nearby behind, the car bursts into life
and dragster starts off in the opposite direction when
KABOOM it explodes.

Bond is blown face forward, but head rolls back onto his
feet. His trench coat tails are alight with flames. He
tears the coat off, throwing it to the floor whilst still
running. Behind him the two motor bikes also ignite in
unison - KABOOM. Bond doesn’t flinch; his run slows to a
fast walk. He looks mean and determined, squared jawed with
steely blue eyes. Behind him a wall of flames – it’s as if
Bond just walked straight out of an inferno.

JAMES BOND 007 - BORN FROM FIRE

INT. MI-6 HEADQUARTERS M’S OFFICE, LONDON - DAY

Bond is stood at M’s desk, getting a severe reprimanding
from a seated M.

                       M
What the hell were you thinking
007!

                       BOND
It was a mistake, I’m sorry.

                       M
You’re damned right it was a
mistake!

                       BOND
I just felt, well, I suppose I
needed to pay my respects.

                       M
      (Mocking angrily)
To a life lost?

                       BOND
Not literally.

                       M
You know the sacrifices you, we
all had to take by joining the
Service?

                       BOND
Yes Ma’am.

13.

                       M
Then you’re a fool 007. You acted
in your own self-interests, you
risked exposing your own identity
and could have jeopardised our
whole operation.

M’s POV, Bond is standing square on, his figure melts with
that of (gas masked) RED TROOP LEADER face on approaching
the Young Terrorist with the Girl hostage.

INT. GOVT BUILDING, 4TH FLOOR, CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY

The flashback scene replays as RED TROOP LEADER is
approaching the Young Terrorist and Girl. RED TROOP LEADER
speaks, his voice rasped through his gas mask.

                       RED TROOP LEADER
Let go of the girl!

Young Terrorist’s POV, RED TROOP LEADER removes his gas mask
– it’s Bond, he looks calm and directed.

                       BOND
      (Calmly)
Let her go.

INT. MI-6 HEADQUARTERS M’S OFFICE, LONDON - DAY

Back to present time. M opens a folder marked CLASSIFIED.
She takes out a portrait photograph and passes it to Bond.

                       M
You’ll recognise this young man.

Bond regards the photograph.

                       BOND
Yes, of course.

Bond’s POV of the portrait photograph, the scene merges into
a memory flashback.

INT. GOVT BUILDING, 4TH FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY

The portrait photograph merges into the memory of the Young
Terrorist. He looks terrified, and then his face softens
into a slight smile as he sees the unmasked Bond before him.

14.

                       YOUNG TERRORIST
      (Quietly)
Are you ready for your new life?

EXT. CITY STREETS, LONDON - DAY

An ambulance is travelling at speed, siren BLEARING. An
unmarked black tinted windows police saloon car is
escorting. The Ambulance Driver kills the siren then pulls
into empty side street. The ambulance reverses into a
loading bay dock at the rear of a tall building. The police
escort saloon stops in front of the ambulance, two plain
clothes police officers jump out and check the street around
them, before nodding an ‘OK’ to the Ambulance Driver.

INT. AMBULANCE, STREET LOADING BAY AREA, LONDON - DAY

The Ambulance Driver knocks on the rear window. Inside the
ambulance, a Medic acknowledges the Driver, and then turns
to face the two body bags lying on the stretchers before
him. He shakes both feet ends of the bags.

                       MEDIC
OK chaps, ride’s over.

Almost simultaneously both bag zippers are torn open from
the inside. The smoke and dust blackened faces of Bond and
the Young Terrorist emerge from the body bags. The Young
Terrorist sits up and turns on the stretcher, coughing
heavily.

                       BOND
You OK?

The Young Terrorist gives him a thumbs up whilst regaining
his breath then speaks.

                       YOUNG TERRORIST
Yeah, I’m glad that’s over.

He smiles wearily at Bond, his white teeth in contrast to
his blackened face.

EXT. STREET LOADING BAY AREA, LONDON - DAY

Bond and the Young Terrorist step out of the rear ambulance
door. Bond gently pats the Young Terrorist on the shoulder.

15.

                       BOND
That was a brave thing that you
did today.

                       YOUNG TERRORIST
All in a day’s work for guys like
you.

                       BOND
Don’t belittle yourself; I know
the risks you took.

The Young Terrorist smiles, then nods to the waiting police
saloon.

                       BOND
You take care.

                       YOUNG TERRORIST
Don’t worry about me.

He climbs into the rear of the police saloon, and it
promptly speeds off. The ambulance also departs, in the
opposite direction. For a moment Bond is alone, then he
hears a voice behind him.

                       TAILOR
You can clean up and change
clothes in here.

Bond turns to see an elderly man standing at the loading bay
door. The elderly man is smartly dressed in a dark pin
stripe suit, he’s wearing half moon spectacles and a tailors
measuring tape is hung over his shoulders.

INT. TAILORS SHOP, NEW BOND STREET, LONDON - DAY

A couple of customers are closing a sale with the Tailor at
the sales counter. Bond emerges from the rear of the shop,
clean faced and immaculately dressed in a silver grey suit.
The Tailor turns to regard Bond, before smiling a farewell
to the departing customers.

                       TAILOR
Well, you look like a new man,
positively re-born.

The Tailor gently brushes a loose thread from Bond’s freshly
tailored suit shoulder.

16.

                       TAILOR
      (Quietly)
Ready for duty?

EXT. BUSY SHOPS PAVEMENT, NEW BOND STREET, LONDON - DAY

The Tailor steps one foot out of his shop door allowing Bond
to pass. The Tailor gestures to a parked London Taxi.

                       TAILOR
Taxi!

The Taxi jerks into movement and pulls up instantly at
Bond’s feet. The Taxi driver races out of the cab and
rushes around to open the passenger door for Bond. He hands
Bond a folded newspaper whilst ushering him into the cab.

                       TAXI DRIVER
Here you go mate, catch-up with
the headlines.

Bond steps inside and the Taxi speeds off. The Taxi speeds
past the street sign NEW BOND STREET.

INT. TAXI, CITY STREETS LONDON - DAY

Bond opens the folded newspaper; inside is a folder marked
TOP SECRET, MI-6 CLASSIFIED. Inside the folder is page of
several passport sized photographs and full-length body
shots of Bond wearing only shorts. A couple of photographs
focus on scars across his left rib cage, and upper right
arm. The photographs page is complemented with a page of
personal details, age, date of birth, birthplace, weight,
height, eye colour, blood group – the name on the page
header is JAMES BOND.

EXT. VAUXHALL BRIDGE ENTRANCE, LONDON - DAY

The Taxi is crossing Vauxhall Bridge approaching the huge
stepped monolith building that is MI-6 Headquarters.

INT. TAXI VAUXHALL BRIDGE ENTRANCE, LONDON - DAY

The Taxi driver speaks into a mobile phone.

                       TAXI DRIVER
Phoenix has flown, over.

17.

Bond glances up from the folder and locks eyes with the Taxi
Driver who stares back through his driving mirror.

                       TAXI DRIVER
Welcome aboard Sir.

INT. MI-6 HEADQUARTERS M’S OFFICE, LONDON - DAY

Present time, (contemplating the past memory) Bond is
looking out of M’s black tinted office window, down towards
Vauxhall Bridge. M walks around her desk carrying the
folder.

                       M
We went to a lot of trouble to
enlist you on that day.

She hands Bond a series of photographs.

                       M
That young MI-5 agent acted
extremely bravely to infiltrate
the terrorist cell, and assist
your extraction to our ranks.

Bond flicks through the photographs his face turning from
curiosity to shock, then anger.

                       M
He had such potential, but it was
not to be. As you can see we
found his body earlier this week.

                       BOND
      (Enraged)
Who was responsible?

                       M
We are not sure, it could hardly
have been the terrorist cell that
he’d infiltrated.

Bond stares back coldly.

                       M
That’s right 007, because Special
Forces killed every last one of
them.

                       BOND
Some loss.

18.

                       M
There’s a time and a place for
violence I’ll give you that, but
there is always a price to pay.

M mournfully hands a final photograph to Bond.

                       M
As you can see here, he was
tortured before being executed.

Bond fires a questioning look back to M.

                       BOND
He knew nothing of my true or
future identity.

                       M
So we cannot explain how the
assassins tracked you?

                       BOND
Apparently not.

                       M
Then this is graver than I
thought.

M paces round to sit at her desk.

                       M
Shortly before this agent was
killed he was working on a routine
surveillance of financial trading
in the City. Looking for
irregular transactions that may be
attributed to terrorist fund
networking. There was a
particular investment bank that
had drawn MI-5’s attention by its
unwillingness to comply with
financial scrutiny.

                       BOND
A City investment bank behind the
murder of an MI-5 agent?

                       M
As you know, for several months
terrorist activity has ceased
throughout Mainland Europe. Yet we
have traced large sums of money
being moved around known networks.

19.

                       BOND
They must be planning something
big.

                       M
Certainly something well
organised. Quite possibly with
access to PAN European Secret
Service data at the most
classified level.

                       BOND
Is that possible?

                       M
Maybe, even our secrets can be
bought for the right price. That
Investment Bank is our only lead.
They are extremely cautious with
their client selection. It’s
their client list that we need to
get hold of, to see whom they are
trading for.

M’s phone buzzes, she picks up the receiver.

                       M
Yes, send him through please.

                       M
MI-5 has given us full clearance
to act on this. I want you to
subtly work your way inside there
007. This will be a discreet,
unarmed surveillance operation.
Tact and diplomacy will be your
weapon, a skill set you could do
with developing. So, we’ll be
sending you in with a distraction.

M gestures towards the opening office door. In walks a
smartly dressed old gentleman in a black suit, thin white
hair and beard, lean profile.

                       M
May I introduce Commander James
Bond?

                       M
Perhaps it will be easier if I
call you ‘Commander’.

20.

She turns back to Bond, bemused at seeing the look of
confusion on his face.

                       COMMANDER
Yes, that would be fine, and may I
say you are a lot more attractive
than your predecessor.

M raises an eyebrow questioning a response from Bond. Bond
stares curiously at the elderly man now stood beside him at
M’s desk.

                       BOND
What’s all this about?

                       M
You know how our agent coding
system works. We guard our
identities through pseudonyms.
Agent James Bond is merely a role
reference, like any other. This
gentleman served with us many
years ago.

The Commander smiles warmly, then holds out a hand to Bond.

                       COMMANDER
So, you’re the new boy?

Bond looks back perplexed, failing to register the hand
gesture.

                       COMMANDER
What’s the matter, do you think
you’ve seen a ghost?

                       BOND
Yes, now that you come to mention
it. I didn’t think that 00 agents
made it to retirement age.

                       M
Well, meet lucky number seven.

Bond now takes the Commanders hand and shakes it,
cautiously.

                       M
Bond, the Commander is on the
client list for the Investment
Bank. He’s your distraction to
get inside.

21.

Bond looks questionably at the Commander.

                       M
He has an investment portfolio
managed by the bank and an
interview arranged today with
their Credit Controller. The
perfect cover for you to go in
with him as his assistant.

                       BOND
      (To the Commander)
So, I get to risk my life for your
bloody pension plan.

                       COMMANDER
You’d be wise to invest for the
future, although I can’t see you
getting much further in life with
an attitude like that.

                       M
Gentlemen, may I remind you that
this is a matter of national
security. You both entered the
service for Queen and Country, not
for monetary gain or ego.

                       M
      (To Bond)
The Commander is a known client,
he will be able to get you inside
to perform the surveillance. You
gather the information quickly
then get out, can you manage that?

M speaks into her desktop phone.

                       M
Miss Moneypenny, send in Q please.

A young man enters the office carrying a laptop computer.
He has foppish hair and is dressed in a dishevelled looking
suit.

                       COMMANDER
      (Bemused)
Well, you know you are getting old
when the new Q looks like a
schoolboy.

Q places the laptop on M’s desk then turns to Bond.

22.

                       Q
I’ll make this simple for you 007.

Bond stares back blankly, then moves towards the desk.

Q pulls a small stick shaped device from his inside jacket
pocket.

                       Q
USB pen, easy enough, just pop it
into the side of a computer port.

Q inserts the USB pen into the laptop and instantly a small
screen is displayed SCANNING ALL NETWORKS…

                       Q
This is no ordinary USB Pen, it’s
a microcomputer dedicated to
searching network traffic,
decrypting data on the fly, and
then tracing source databases.
Attach it to an internal computer
and it will hack its way through
all the hosts network.

Q’s laptop now displays a status message, TRAFFIC TRACED,
SCANNING SOURCE DATA…

                       BOND
You want me to connect this to a
PC inside the bank, can’t you
breach the systems from outside?

                       M
The bank’s external security is
exceptionally well ring-fenced;
it’s one of the things that caught
MI-5's attention in the first
place.

                       Q
This little device working from
the inside can gather everything
we need much quicker.

                       BOND
How much quicker?

                       Q
A minute or two, it depends on
what tripwires they have set.

23.

                       BOND
What am I supposed to do in the
meantime, make a cup of tea?

                       M
That’s where the Commander comes
in. He’ll keep them occupied
whilst you work on this.

Q shuts his laptop, and disconnects the USB Pen offering it
to Bond. However, the Commander takes it from him and
studies it.

                       COMMANDER
Ingenious.

Bond snatches the USB Pen from the Commander and puts it
inside his own jacket pocket. The Commander is clearly
annoyed.

                       BOND
      (To the Commander)
Are you ready?

                       COMMANDER
Of course.

The Commander leans across to M, takes her hand and then
kisses it.

                       COMMANDER
      (To M)
It’s been a pleasure; perhaps I’ll
let you know when I’m next.
shooting through town.

                       M
Not literally I hope.

The Commander and M both share a grin. Bond turns to leave
the office and the Commander follows.

INT. CITY INVESTMENT BANK GROUND FLOOR FOYER - DAY

Bond is looking at the floor listing next to an elevator
lift entrance. The Commander walks up and speaks quietly
into his ear.

                       COMMANDER
I trust you’ll leave the talking
to me?

24.

The Commander walks forward and presses the lift call
button.

                       BOND
Floor 16.

INT. INVESTMENT BANK ELEVATOR LIFT - DAY

The lift arrives and the Commander waves Bond courteously
in. Bond nods respectfully then enters, the Commander
follows. The lift walls are panelled top to floor in
reflective sheet metal. As the lift starts to rise, they
are alone, standing side-by-side face forwards. Bond looks
upwards, apparently preoccupied with the rising floor
numbers display. After a pause, the Commander coughs
slightly, then remaining face forwards speaks.

                       COMMANDER
So, you enjoy your work?

                       BOND
Oh, I live for it.

The Commander grins to himself, then turns his head slightly
to Bond.

                       COMMANDER
Ironically, I can see a lot of my
former self in you.

Bond, turns his head slightly to the Commander but says
nothing, he turns his head back to the floor reading,
looking even more serious.

                       COMMANDER
Lean, mean, indestructible, ready
to save the world at a moments
notice.

Bond glances across to the Commander.

                       BOND
When did you get out?

                       COMMANDER
From the Company?

                       BOND
Yes, the Company.

25.

                       COMMANDER
You never really do, so don’t even
try.

Bond looks straight at the Commander.

                       BOND
You’re still active?

                       COMMANDER
No, but I keep in touch. There
will come a day when you’ll start
to question why you are really
doing this. When you start to
hear those voices in your head pay
attention because your time in the
field is over, for your own sake.

                       BOND
So, what are you doing here?

                       COMMANDER
I’m here to make certain my money
is in safe hands, and some old
acquaintances are better kept
friendly, the Company especially.

Bond looks thoughtfully at the Commander.

                       COMMANDER
When the Company wants a favour
you should oblige. Heaven forbid
you fall out with the Company,
then one day when you're old and
grey they send somebody like you
to visit.

Bond looks at his own full length blurred reflection in the
lift wall. He pauses to consider the Commander's remarks.

                       BOND
So, you quit early, and went for
the low risk lifestyle?

                       COMMANDER
Now I take all my risks on the
Stock Market. Sometimes the
Company will call on my services.
Although in this case I called
them, something botherd me about
this one.

26.

                       BOND
What?

                       COMMANDER
Surely this is a domestic matter,
nothing to do with your branch?

                       BOND
Yeah, well the domestic team have
handed this onto us, one of their
guys was taken out last week.

The Commander blinks slowly, then sighs.

                       COMMANDER
Perfect, another bloody suicide
mission.

The lift arrives and doors open, this time Bond courteously
waves the Commander on through the door.

INT. INVESTMENT BANK 16TH FLOOR ENTRANCE CORRIDOR - DAY

As the lift opens, two bulky guards stand upright from
chairs facing the lift. The guards usher Bond and the
Commander through a tall security metal detector frame. Once
on the other side of the frame they are both told to spread
arms and are frisked by another two guards. Bond notices a
pistol handle perturbing from one of the guards jacket.

                       BOND
      (To the Commander)
Secure banking facility you’ve
subscribed to.

One of the guards ushers them forward. Bond and the
Commander are marched through an empty open plan office
area, towards an office with top to floor windows. As they
approach the office a couple are seen inside chatting
purposefully at the desk. An attractive women in a tight
fitting business suit, and a middle aged stern looking
businessman.

                       COMMANDER
      (To Bond)
You charm the P.A, I’ll deal with
the Credit Controller.

As they enter the office the guards retreat. The woman
turns to greet them.

                       CREDIT CONTROLLER
Hi, I’m Angelina Lowley, Credit
Controller.

The Commander shares a bemused smirk with Bond.

                       COMMANDER
I hope you don’t mind, I brought
my assistant.

The Credit Controller looks suspiciously at Bond.

                       CREDIT CONTROLLER
That’s fine, he can wait here.
Please come into my office.

The Credit Controller opens a side door into a much larger
executive office.

The Commander raises an eyebrow to Bond, then nods gently to
Bond as he follows the Credit Controller into her office.
Bond looks on as the Credit Controller’s glass fronted door
is promptly closed, and their conversion silenced.

Bond stares at the stern looking man seated behind the desk.
Bond retrieves a mobile phone from his jacket pocket.

                       BOND
Anywhere I can get a proper phone
reception for my mobile?

                       P.A.
Try the main hallway.

INT. INVESTMENT BANK, OPEN PLAN OFFICES, LONDON - DAY

Bond leaves the office and immediately begins his
recognisance for an unoccupied computer workstation. A
nearby cubicle is occupied by a couple of business types in
deep conversation. They stop mid sentence and glare
suspiciously at Bond.

                       BOND
Sorry, just looking for the rest
room.

28.

Bond is pointed towards the hallway. As Bond approaches the
hallway he passes a windowed office, a computer server room.
A Computer Operator is seated at a bank of workstation
monitors. Suddenly the Computer Operator gets to his feet
and makes for the door. Bond slows his walk as he realises
his chance is approaching.

The Computer Server Room door opens with an electronic BUZZ.
Bond sinks to his knees in a mock attempt to tie his shoe
laces. He glances at the passing Computer Operator’s waist,
seeing his Security ID card swing past on it’s belt clip.

INT. INVESTMENT BANK, COMPUTER SERVER ROOM, LONDON - DAY

Quickly, before the door shuts itself Bond is inside the
Computer Server Room. Bond reviews the workstations, then
connects the USB Pen to a desk mounted PC. A screen pops up
SCANNING NETWORK… Bond notices a half drank cup of tea on
the table top and allows himself a private chuckle before
sitting down hidden behind the door, one eye on the hallway
outside.

INT. INVESTMENT BANK, CREDIT CONTROLLER'S OFFICE - DAY

The Credit Controller is sat behind her desk, reading an
account status page on her laptop PC. The Commander is
seated at the visitor’s side of the desk, looking calm and
relaxed.

                       CREDIT CONTROLLER
Please tell me something, in all
your years as a client you have
never once contacted us directly,
always through a mediator or
broker. Yet today, you are here
in person. To what reason do we
owe this honour?

                       COMMANDER
Why am I here, I’m looking at her.

                       CREDIT CONTROLLER
      (Fakes a blush)
Really, I’m intrigued with what
could be so important for you to…

She pauses mid-sentence, as a pop-up message appears
on her laptop screen NETWORK SECURITY BREACH – INTERNAL –
COMMS ROOM 4.

She sits back bolt upright.

29.

                       CREDIT CONTROLLER
Your Assistant, where is he?

                       COMMANDER
Oh, I’m sure he’s charming one of
your female executives somewhere.

Suddenly, the Credit Controller's office door BURSTS open.
Its Bond, he charges into the room.

                       BOND
We are leaving, now!

                       COMMANDER
Dear boy, we just got here, are
you sure?

                       CREDIT CONTROLLER
Who are you people!

She raises to her feet and reaches across for her desk
phone. Bond moves a step towards her, but the Commander
holds out his hand to halt him. The Commander calmly
reaches across and places his hand atop the Credit
Controller’s on the phone receiver.

                       COMMANDER
I wouldn’t do that my dear, or
I’ll have my man here break your
pretty little neck.

Bond stands square on to the Credit Controller. She looks
terrified, then notices someone moving quickly towards the
office door.

                       CREDIT CONTROLLER
Oh no, no!

Both Bond and the Commander turn around to see a lone guard
running towards the office door, sub-machine gun held at
waist height. The guard stops 10 feet from the door and
opens fire, sending bullets and shattered glass everywhere.

Bond and the Commander dive to the floor. The Credit
Controller is hit, she falls dead. The Commander looks at
her frozen face parallel to his own. The Commander glares
angrily at the guard now entering the office. The Commander
jumps to his knees reaching across the desk for the Credit
Controller's laptop PC. He throws it wildly towards the
guard’s head. The guard is hit square in the face and
reels back in shock. Bond is upon the guard before he can
regain his posture, hitting him hard in the stomach, then
tearing the gun from him before hammering his forehead with

the gun’s butt end. The guard slumps to the floor
unconscious.

INT. INVESTMENT BANK, OPEN PLAN OFFICES, LONDON - DAY

Bond and the Commander now make their way quickly through
the open plan office area heading towards the entrance
hallway.

The Commander pauses to survey the Computer Server Room, the
door is half open, propped by the unconscious body of the
Computer Operator. The Commander stares questionably to
Bond.

                       BOND
I tried tact and diplomacy, but he
wouldn’t listen.

The lift door DINGS and four armed guards emerge into the
hallway. They charge through the metal detector frame
sending ALARMS sounding. Bond and the Commander run away in
the opposite direction. A BLAST of gun fire as Bond and the
Commander are pelted with bullets. Bond turns and returns
fire with a short BLAST from the sub-machine gun. The
leading guard in the pursuit is hit and falls injured, the
other three guards run on regardless.

Bond tries a stairway door, it’s open.

                       BOND
In here!

INT. INVESTMENT BANK, STAIRWAY, LONDON - DAY

Bond bolt locks the door, and then he and the Commander run
down a single flight of stairs to the next landing. Bond
tries the landing door, its locked from the other side. They
race down to the next landing, the Commander tries that
landing door, and it’s also locked. Bond looks up
frantically to the stairway above, and then he’s distracted
by a CLATTER of footsteps and SHOUTS below. Four floors
below several more armed guards emerge onto the stairway.
The Commander looks over the stairwell to see them charge up
the stairs towards them, then he checks back up as the door
they entered is BANGED and CHARGED by the guards above.

                       COMMANDER
Nice exit plan.

Bond disregards him. He surveys the stairway's top to floor
exterior windows and then looks outside at a nearby adjacent

31.

building block rooftop. He spots a wall mounted fire hose
on the stairway landing above and races up to it. Bond
tosses the machine gun to the Commander, and then starts
tugging the fire hose loose from the wheel.

                       BOND
Shoot the window.

                       COMMANDER
What?

                       BOND
Shoot the god damn window!

The Commander faces the stairway window and lets rip a BURST
of bullets from the sub-machine gun. The glass FRACTURES
like a 10 foot tall spiders web. Bond sprints down the
stairway towards the fractured window.

                       BOND
Follow me!

                       COMMANDER
You must be joking!

Bond CRASHES through the window, for a moment he's frozen in
air, arms and legs hurdling space, the hose reel attached
like an umbilical cord from the Investment Bank. In a
CRUNCH he painfully lands on the adjacent building's
rooftop. He rolls onto his back with knees bent heaving the
hose reel tight.

                       BOND
Come on!

INT. INVESTMENT BANK, STAIRWAY, LONDON - DAY

The Commander looks at the distant figure of Bond on the
adjacent building rooftop. He hears a CRASH as the door
above is finally broken open and guards clamber into the
stairway above. Suddenly a couple of guards are at the
stairway below him, they see the Commander and raise their
guns. The Commander turns the sub-machine gun in their
direction. The guards cower back down for cover, but as the
Commander pulls the trigger the gun is empty.

                       COMMANDER
This is outrageous.

32.

The Commander loops the sub-machine gun over the fire hose
reel, and a second later he’s sliding down the fire hose
(dangling from the sub-machine gun) towards Bond on the
adjacent building rooftop.

EXT. INVESTMENT BANK, ADJACENT BUILDING ROOFTOP - DAY

He lands with a GRUNT and Bond pulls him quickly to his
feet. Guards in the Investment Bank stairway open fire,
sending Bond and the Commander scuttling behind the only
cover available, the rooftop's exit doorway. The door is
facing the Investment Bank, Bond and the Commander tear
around to the sealed side, where they are pinned down by
gunfire. Bond looks back to the Investment Bank, but is
instantly pelted with bullets, dust and gravel spits into
his eyes. Bond jerks back for cover, cursing.

                       COMMANDER
Like I said, nice exit plan.

Suddenly the Commander’s attention is drawn to something
moving towards them in the near distant sky.

                       COMMANDER
Ah, never mind, looks like the
cavalry has arrived.

Bond looks on, an incoming black military helicopter raises
above the far end of the rooftop, four Special Forces
soldiers hanging from a rope ladder below. The helicopter
swoops low, a few feet from the rooftop, the soldiers make
ready to jump off onto the roof.

                       BOND
Damn it, I’m ex-regiment!

The Commander looks back at him mystified.

                       BOND
My cover’s blown!

The Commander looks hard at the oncoming soldiers, then back
to Bond.

                       COMMANDER
Lie down.

                       BOND
What?

                       COMMANDER
Lie down!

33.

Bond looks back confused, when suddenly SMACK the Commander
hits him square in the jaw with a fierce punch. Bond slumps
out cold against the exit doorway wall. The Commander drops
to his knees turning Bond’s unconscious body over to obscure
his face.

The Special Forces Troop arrives. Three of the soldier move
on and engage fire with the Investment Bank guards, opening
up a hail of lethal firepower. The guards are quickly
neutralised. The Special Forces Troop Leader stops at the
Commander's side.

                       SPECIAL FORCES TROOP LEADER
What happened here?

                       COMMANDER
Oh, it must have been all the
excitement. I think he fainted.

                       SPECIAL FORCES TROOP LEADER
      (Taps his neck
       mounted voice
       microphone)
Air ambulance needed, adjacent
rooftop.

Then the Special Forces Troop Leader leaves to take up
position with the other soldiers.

The Commander looks down to Bond’s still unconscious body.

                       COMMANDER
You can thank me for that later.

Bond starts to regain consciousness, and stumbles to his
feet holding his swollen jaw. Bond’s POV, his vision is
blurred. The Sun is setting low. In the sky he sees a black
silhouette figure arms outstretch rising heavenly into the
sky.

                       COMMANDER
Good luck James.

As Bond’s vision becomes clear he sees that it’s the
Commander. The Commander is being winched upwards into an
air ambulance hovering overhead.

                       COMMANDER
Remember, Queen and Country, and
my bloody money!

Bond is furious, a nearby medic motions to help Bond but he
waves her away then turns to exit through the rooftop

34.

doorway. The door is locked; Bond kicks it open and charges
down the darkened stairway.

FADE OUT.

Good job!

This was pretty interesting...I gave it 2.5 stars because I know it's not finished yet, but it's a pretty interesting take on the 007 franchise. If you can, read my script entitled "Brotherly Love: James Bond Jr. 4"; it's a totally new kind of Bond film that I think has the potential to stand on it's own merits. I'd love to hear from ya!
