EXT. SJHHS SIGN IN FRONT OF SCHOOL - DAY |

|
|
Haley and Katie are walking up the stairs to their lockers. |
|

HALEY
Omigosh! Guess who was texting me
last night. |
|
|
|

| |
KATIE
Really? I thought you liked Kris? |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
Well...I do. But they're both
talking to me and they like me so
I'm not really sure. |
|
|
|
| |
KATIE
Well, it seems like you'll have to
make a decision soon 'cause the
next dance coming up. |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
(worried)
I don't think I'll be able to make
up my mind in time. |
|
|
|
| |
KATIE
(laughing)
Well...we'll see. |
|
|
|
|
Katie and Haley walk into the locker room. |
|
|
| |
|
INT. NEXT CLASS - DAY |
|
|
Haley is daydreaming about who she wants to take her to the
dance. |

HALEY
(thinking to
herself)
Kris is really cute, but Shane is
really nice. And Kris always makes
me laugh, but I know Shane will

HALEY (cont'd)

TEACHER
(Voice fades in)
Haley...Haley. Are you done with
your paper? |
|
|

HALEY
Oh. Umm n-no. No not yet. |
|

Teacher shakes his head. |
|
|

|
EXT. END OF CLASS - DAY |
|
|
|
Haley walks out of the class and sees Katie. |
|
|
| |
HALEY
(smiling)
Hey Katie. |
|
|
|
| |
KATIE
(enthusiastically)
Oh, hey Haley. So have you made
your big decision yet ? |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
(Rolls her eyes)
Oh my gosh. Don't even get me
started. |
|
|
|
|
Shane walks up to Haley carrying a sunflower. |
|
|
Kris is with all of his friends and about to turn the
corner. He sees Shane talking to Haley and stops his
friends. Kris continues to spy on Shane and Haley. |
|

SHANE
(smiling)
Hi Haley. Whats up ? |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
Nothing really... uhh, who's that
flower for ? |
|
|
|
| |
SHANE
Oh. Umm it's for you. I know how
much you like sunlfowers. |
|
|
|

| |
HALEY
(surprised)
Awwh Shane, how did you know
sunflowers are my favorite? |
|
|
|
| |
SHANE
Well, I remember in 6th grade how
you brought your favorite flower
into class and you told me it was. |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
(surprised)
Wow you remembered that? |
|
|
|
| |
SHANE
Well yea, but hey umm...I wanted
to ask you something. |
|
|
|
Haley's friends are calling her over to their table where
they're hanging out. |
|
|
| |
HALEY
Hey sorry I gotta go. I'll talk to
you later okay? |
|
|
|
Haley's friend pulls her away from Shane to go hang out with
their friends. |
|
|
| |
SHANE
(to himself,
disappointed)
Yea...sure. |
|
|
|
|
Camera goes back to Kris who smiles at an idea he gets. |
|
|
| |
|
EXT. NEXT SCHOOL DAY - DAY |
|
|
Kris comes to school with a bouquet of flowers for Haley and
takes it to the front office. |
|
|
He tells the aide to take the flowers to Haleys classroom
and drop it off. |
|
|
| |
|
INT. HALEYS CLASS - DAY |
|
|
|
Aide walks in with the flowers and goes up to the teacher. |
|
|
| |
AIDE
(whispers)
These are for Haley. |
|
|
|

TEACHER
(smiling)
Thank you... Well Haley. Looks
like you've got a secret admirer. |
|
|
|
|
The class giggles. |
|
|
Haley gets up from her seat embarassed and walks to the
front of the class wondering who they are from. |
|
|
|
Haley looks at the card and reads it. |
|
|
| |
KRIS
(reading the card
to Haley)
Dear Haley,
Meet me by the lockers after
class. I have something I wanna
ask you. Hope you like your
flowers.
Kris |

|
|
Haley can't help but smile. She sits at her desk and is
eager to get out of the class. |
|
|
The bell rings. Haley grabs all of her things and rushes out
of the class. |
|
|
| |
|
EXT. HALLWAY - DAY |
|
|
Haley is trying to stay calm as she's walking to the lockers
with the bouquet of flowers in hand. |
|
|
|
She nervously opens the door to get to the locker room. |
|
|
| |
|
INT. INSIDE THE LOCKER ROOM - DAY |
|
|
Haley is looking for Kris. He walks around the corner and
sees Haley. |
|
|
| |
KRIS
(walking towards
Haley smiling)
I take it you got the flowers I
sent you? |
|
|
|
|
Haley looks down at the bouquet in her hand. |
|
|

| |
HALEY
(nervously giggles)
Yea I did. So umm... you wanted to
ask me something? |
|
|
|
| |
KRIS
Oh yea. Well I was wondering if
you were going to the dance with
anyone. |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
(smiling)
Uhh, no. Not yet. |
|
|
|
| |
KRIS
Oh really? What about Shane? |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
Oh no. We're just friends. |
|
|
|
| |
KRIS
(smiling but
hesitating)
Well... in that case, do you think
you would wanna go to the dance
with me? |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
(surprised)
Really?!
I mean...I'd love to. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
All of Kris's friends are calling him outside so they can go
get lunch. |
|
|
| |
KRIS
Well my friends are outside
waiting for me so I'll talk to you
later? |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
(smiling)
Yea definitely. |
|
|
|
As he leaves the locker room, Haley turns around and watches
him meet up with his friends and can't believe what had just
happened. |
|
|
Haley leaves the locker room and tries to find Katie to tell
her the good news. |
|
|

|
EXT. LUNCH - DAY |
|
|
Haley runs up to Katie and can't wait to tell her the good
news. |
|
|
| |
HALEY
(excited)
Katie! Oh my gosh. Guess what just
happened! |
|
|
|
| |
KATIE
This better be good. I'm so tired
I almost fell asleep in math. I
need some excitement. Who are
those flowers for? |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
(interrupting)
Kris asked me to the dance! |
|
|
|
| |
KATIE
No way! You're so lucky. |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
Oh I know. It was so cute. He sent
these flowers to me in class. |
|
|
|
| |
KATIE
Aww that's so cute. But...wait.
What about you and Shane. Remember
he wanted to ask you something?
Maybe it was about the dance. |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
Oh yea. I totally forgot! |
|
|
|
|
She sees Shane walking towards them. |
|
|
| |
HALEY
Oh my gosh. He's coming. I'll talk
to you about it later. Bye |
|
|
|
|
Haley runs off to try to avoid Shane. |
|
|
| |
SHANE
Hey Katie. Uhh is there something
wrong with Haley? |
|
|
|
| |
KATIE
Oh no she just has to go talk to
Kris. |
|

KATIE
(responding
quickly without
thinking)
The dance...
Oh no... |
|
|
|
| |
SHANE
What do you mean talk about the
dance? |
|
|
|
| |
KATIE
I don't think I was supposed to
say that. |

SHANE
Haley's going to the dance with
Kris? |
|
|
|
| |
KATIE
Yea. I'm really sorry Shane. I
don't think she wanted me to tell
you that... |

SHANE
Yea, well the next time you see
her, can you tell her that I wanna
talk to her? |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Shane walks away. Katie runs off to try to find Haley to
tell her what Shane said but the bell rings and there's no
time to try to find her. |

|
INT. NEXT CLASS - DAY |
|
|
|
Haley is sitting at her desk and Shane walks in. |
|
|
| |
SHANE
Hey Haley. I wanted to talk to you
about something really quickly. |
|
|
|

SHANE
Well I heard about you and Kris
going to the dance and I just
wanted to let you know that that's
what I wanted to talk to you about
before. |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
You wanted to ask me to the dance? |
|
|
|
| |
SHANE
Uhh...yea...I did. But now I don't
really mind. There was something
else I wanted to talk to you about
though. Don't you realize what
Kris is trying to do? |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
SHANE
Okay I bring you a flower and I go
up to you to ask you but your
friend pulls you away and I never
got the chance. Kris saw that and
he wanted to make you think that
he was better than me so... |
|
|
|
|
Haley immediately stops Shane in mid-sentence. |
|
|
| |
HALEY
You know what? I think you're just
jealous of him and you want to
make him look bad. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
Well I think I already know what
you're going to say. |
|
|
|
Haley turns away from Shane and faces the front of the class
to try to ignore him. Shane is disappointed and gets up to
go to his seat. |
|

|
EXT. NEXT MORNING - DAY |
|
|
Haley is talking with her friends and Shane comes up behind
her and taps her on the shoulder. |
|
|
|
Haley turns around. |
|
|

| |
SHANE
Hi, can I talk to you for a
second? |
|
|

| |
HALEY
(annoyed)
I guess. Whats up? |
|
|
|
| |
SHANE
Well I just wanted to tell you I'm
sorry for talking to you about
Kris like that yesterday. |
|
|

|

| |
SHANE
Oh and I wanted to give you
this... |
|
|
|
|
He pulls a bracelet out of his pocket. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
(lightening up to
him)
Thanks Shane. It's cute. |
|
|
|

SHANE
I really am sorry for saying what
I said. I don't want you to be
mad. |
|
|
|
| |
HALEY
It's okay. I overreacted. |
|
|
|
| |
SHANE
That's all I wanted to tell you. I
gotta go, bye. |

HALEY
Okay, see you later. |

Shane walks away and Haley goes back to talking with her
friends. |

EXT. HALLWAY - DAY |
|

Haley is walking to her class and sees Kris with his
friends. |

Kris walks over to Haley. Haley is holding her books by her
side with the hand that has the bracelet from Shane. |
|

Kris notices the bracelet. |
|
|
| |
KRIS
Hey, did you get a new bracelet?
It's cute. |

HALEY
(smiling)
Yea, Shane made it for me. |
|
|
|
| |
KRIS
(laughing)
Oh. Well next time you see him
tell him he did a good job. |
|
|

HALEY
(giggling)
Okay I will. I gotta get to class. |
|
|

KRIS
Yea me too. I'll see you later. |

|
Haley starts walking away and waves goodbye. |
|
|

KRIS
Dude can you go do me a favor and
get a bracelet for Katie after
school? |
|
|
|
| |
KRIS' FRIEND
Uhh yea if you give me money for
it. |
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
Kris hands his friend some cash. |
|
|

EXT. NEXT DAY - DAY |
|
|
Kris's friend gives Kris a box with a bow on it that has the
bracelet inside. |
|

Kris walks off to find Haley so he can give her the
bracelet. |

|
|
Kris finds her at her locker. |
|
|

KRIS
(smiling)
Hey. I got you something. |
|
|

|
He hands her the gift. |

HALEY
You did? What is it? |
|
|
|
|

HALEY
(smiling)
This is so cute! Thank you so
much, where did you get it? |
|

KRIS
I didnt get it anywhere. I made it |

HALEY
No way. You made this? |
|

KRIS
Yea I've been working on it for a
while. |

HALEY
Wow, I had no idea you were so
talented. |

|

Katie walks into the locker room where Haley and Kris are
talking. |

HALEY
(smiling)
Hey Katie. Look what Kris made for
me. Isnt it cute? |
|

KATIE
Wow yea it's adorable. I need to
talk to you. |
|
|

KRIS
(interrupting)
I'm gonna go. Bye Haley. |
|
|
|
Haley turns to Kris and says goodbye. Then turns back to
Katie. |

|
| |
KATIE
Dont you realize what he's doing? |
|
|

HALEY
(annoyed)
Great, first Shane and now you.
He's not doing anything. |
|
|
|
|
Haley tries to walk away but Katie pulls her back. |
|
|
| |
KATIE
Haley, think about it. Shane
brings you a flower, Kris brings
you a bouquet the next day. Shane
brings you a bracelet that he made
for you, and Kris brings you one
that he also said that he made for
you. Which by the way he didn't
because I have the exact same one
that I got for Christmas. See? |

|
Katie puts her hand out showing her the bracelet. |
|
|
| |
HALEY
(in shock)
Wow. I can't believe Kris did
this. I feel so bad for not
believing Shane. |
|
|
|
|
Haley and Katie walk out of the locker room. |
|
|

EXT. HALLWAY - DAY |

|

Haley and Katie walk up to Kris who is with his friends. |
|
|

KRIS
Yea, it was really hard, but it
was worth it 'cause you like it
right? |

HALEY
Oh yea I love it. Especially
because now me and my friend have
the same one. |
|
|
|
|
Haley pulls Katie's wrist up with the bracelet. |
|
|

HALEY
(interrupting him)
Don't say you're sorry. I didn't
think you would do something like
this. But now I guess you're gonna
have to find a new date to the
dance. |

|
|
|
Haley and Katie walk away. Haley is smiling. |
|

EXT. HALLWAY - DAY |
|
|
|
Haley is walking towards Shane. |
|
|

HALEY
(smiling)
Well... you were right. |
|
|
|

HALEY
Kris trying to be better than you.
I'm sorry for not believing you
before. Everything you did for me
was from the heart and I think
that's really sweet. |

|

SHANE
Really? Well does this mean that
you don't have a date to the dance
anymore? |

HALEY
Oh...no. I still have a date. |
|
|
|
| |
SHANE
You're still going with Kris? |
|
|

| |
HALEY
(giggles)
No, I'm going with you. |

Both Haley and Shane smile. |
