its one of the best restaurants in
Hall City and they have one of the

to have chicken soup for dinner
then?

the window, sees how safe their streets are and calm. Not
hearing a sound of people screaming to each other from place
to place like New York City.

7.

                       JOHN (MAN)
So, what do you think?

                       JAMES (MAN)
It's better than New York City
that's one thing and people seem
to be ok.

                       JOHN (MAN)
In what ways?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, to start, people seem to be
calm here and people don't seem to
be yelling to each other from
place to place like people in New
York City. it's seems to be a
peaceful place.

                       JOHN (MAN)
Well, Yeah I know. This city is
very calm all the time.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well look, Is that the restaurant
over there? It's pretty big!

                       JAMES (MAN)
No, thanks, that's all for now,
John.

8.

                       JOHN (MAN)
Alright then, we would have only
the chicken soup for now.
Thank you!

                       WAITRESS (LADY)
Ok, then two chicken soup plates
coming right up!

John and James have a conversation as they wait for their
chicken soup to come.

                       JOHN (MAN)
So, James, what do you think of
our little city?

                       JAMES (MAN)
I like the quiet, slow pace of the
city. People seem friendly from
what I can see.

                       JOHN (MAN)
Good I am glad you like it! So,how
is your speech coming? Is there
anything I could do for you? Is
there anything you need?

                       JAMES (MAN)
No thanks, John. I am all set. Oh
here comes our soup.

The waitress sets two steaming bowls of soup before them.

                       WAITRESS (LADY)
Excuse me, the chicken soup you
ordered. Will there be anything
else, gentlemen?

                       JOHN (MAN)
Oh, thank you.

Both men begin eating and everything is quiet for a little
while.

INT. MEN HAVE FINISHED EATING AND ARE NOW IN THE CAR - NIGHT

John and James finish eating their chicken soup. Now John
takes James for a drive around the city. James sees the
different things of Hall City, including how the cars work
and wonders how they work.

9.

                       JAMES (MAN)
John, what kind of power do people
use in Hall City for their cars?

                       JOHN (MAN)
Well, most cars are powered by
electricity here, and others are
powered by solar power. What about
New York, what power do they use?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Most cars are powered by gasoline,
and we have some that are hybrids,
that is, they run on gas and
battery.

                       JOHN (MAN)
That's good, but how come you
don't have cars that are powered
by solar power?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Maybe they haven't thought of it
yet. Who knows?

                       JOHN (MAN)
Yeah, who knows?

                       JAMES (MAN)
The air here in Hall City is
really clean. What kind of power
does Hall City use for heating and
cooling?

                       JOHN (MAN)
Well, James, here in Hall City we
use wind power to protect the
environment, since it doesn't
pollute the air and is use using
wind turbines and the government
things its the best energy power
for the city.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well that's good. If only the
government of New York thought
that way, things in New York would
look better and cleaner and people
will enjoy nature more.

                       JOHN (MAN)
Yeah, I know, I have been reading
things over the internet about New
York and I can't believe why the

about it.

Yeah, I wonder if the environment
will ever change in New York.

what kind of school this is?

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, James, it's a public Middle
school. What do you think?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, it's pretty big and it
reminds me of my two boys, Corey
and Kevin, they're both in the
sixth grade.

12.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, that's good. Your boys they

Yes, there is always a policeman
near the school, in case anything
happens.

                       JAMES (MAN)
I was thinking, that if my kids
move here they could come to
school here, since everything
looks safe. What do you think?

                       PRIEST (MAN)
That sounds good. I think they
would like it. James, you're

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, that was quick.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Let's start digging!!

                       PRIEST (MAN)
So, what do you think of the pizza
James, is it good or what?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, it's one of the best pizzas
I ever had. It tastes so fresh
that I can't believe it!

14.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, that's good that you enjoy
the pizza and do you want a drink?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Yeah, soda.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Ok, then.

James and Father Smith just had lunch and now they go to the
church called "The Hall Church" James prepares himself for
the speech.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
So, what do you think of the
church?

                       JAMES (MAN)
It looks nice, but I feel a little
nervous about the speech.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, James sometimes a person
needs to control their fear. Don't
be nervous.

                       JAMES (MAN)
You know what, you're right, there
is no need for me to be nervous.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
That's the spirit!!

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, James in a few hours you
will be giving your speech. What
would you like to do now?

                       JAMES (MAN)
I think I would like to go back to
my hotel room, and take a shower
and rest for a little bit.

INT. 4 HOURS LATER BACK AT CHURCH - NIGHT

James is walking around, talking to Father Smith

15.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Are you really nervous, James?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well,yeah, anyone would be.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Look just get it over with and
give your speech, and after we
could go out and talk about
things. Anything you want.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Alright then, I'll see.

By eight, everyone leaves the church. After dinner, James
and Father Smith go out around the city and they have a
talk.

INT. JAMES AND FATHER SMITH TALKING 10:45PM - NIGHT

                       JAMES (MAN)
Father Smith, I wanted to know,
What do you think my life would
be if I moved here?

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, James I can't say, but I
could give you a picture of how it
would be.

                       JAMES (MAN)
So, then, let's hear it.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, to start, your kids will
have to go to a new school and
make new friends, and they will
probably be nervous for a couple
of weeks and your wife would have
to look for a new job and so would
you.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, a little change wont hurt.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Are you sure about that?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, maybe my wife would get mad
at me, but I will sweet talk her.
I really think I should stay for a

couple of days to look at think
here in Hall City.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
That's sounds good.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Yeah, and maybe I should call my
wife and have a few words with
her.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Alright then we should be going,
it's getting late

                       JAMES (MAN)
What time is it?

                       PRIEST (MAN)
It's 11:35 pm

                       JAMES (MAN)
Let's go. I need to give my wife
a call before it's gets too much
later.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Ok.

INT. BACK TO THE HOTEL ROOM 12:15AM - NIGHT

James has arrived back at the hotel where he calls his wife.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Hello, honey.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
      (mad)
James, do you have any idea what
time it is? Why are you calling
this late?

                       JAMES (MAN)
I wanted to talk to you about
something.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
What? When are you coming home?

17.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, I'm thinking I'd like to
stay here a few more days.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
Are you crazy? Are you out of your
mind? What are you thinking?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Look, I really like it here and I
think we should at least consider
coming here for a vacation. That's
why I want to stay and talk with
some more people and look around.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
Well, what about me? the kids? Why
do you want to do this?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Don't worry, honey, I'm just
interested in the place. It's so
awesome here. It's quiet,
peaceful, clean, safe. I just need
to be here awhile longer.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
How do I know that for sure? How
do I know that you won't call me
in a few days and say you're
staying even longer than that?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, yeah, but here in Hall City
it's different. Kids have fun with
one other and enjoy playing with
each other in a clean safe
environment. The schools are good,
too.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
Wait a minute. Are you suggesting
that we move there permanently? If
you are, then this conversation is
over.

Megan slams doen the phone and Act 2 ends.

INT. 5 AM HOTEL ROOM ACT3 - DAY

After the conversation with Megan James hasn't slept. He has
been pacing around the room for awhile. He goes to the

phone, picks it up and tries to call Megan. Meagan doesn't
answer.

Phone rings. James runs to the phone thinking it's Megan.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Hello, Megan.

                       JOHN (MAN)
No, buddy, it's me, John. Were you
expecting Megan?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Yes, I was. We had an argument
last night and she hung up on me.
I have been trying to call her.

                       JOHN (MAN)
Is there anything I can do to
help?

                       JAMES (MAN)
No, thanks, this is something that
I need to straighten out myself.

                       JOHN (MAN)
Ok, then. Talk with you later?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Hey John can I ask you something?

                       JOHN (MAN)
Sure.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Ok, I am really impressed with
this place and I would like to
stay behind for a couple of days
and see if Megan and the kids
would want to come here for a
little vacation.

                       JOHN (MAN)
Good, I think it's a good idea for
you to stay for a couple of days.
Let me Know if Father Smith or I
can help in any way.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Thanks I will.

INT. HOTEL ROOM LATE AFTERNOON AFTER SIGHTSEENING - DAY

James walking in the door, phone ringing like crazy.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Hello, Megan is that you?

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
Yes its me. Would you mind telling
me why you are so crazy about Hall
City?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, honey, first I want to say
that I am sorry for making you
mad.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
Alright, honey, I accept your
apology.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Ok, then thank you, honey.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Honey, I am going to email you
some pictures of Hall City.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
Alright, honey, send them.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Ok, emailing them. Tell me what
you think. I hope you like them.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
James!! This place looks so
peaceful and its looks perfect.
People seem to be safe and happy.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, Megan, what would you have
expected? I told you Hall City is
a great place to live.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
Well, honey, since this place
looks so nice and peaceful, maybe
the kids and I could join you
there for a little vacation.

20.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Yeah!! I knew you would change
your mind. Thank you, honey.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
Let's get something settled first.
Just because I've agreed that
maybe we can take a little
vacation does not mean anything
more than that. Do you understand?

                       JAMES (MAN)
      (quiet but hopeful)
Ok, but I think you'll really like
it here. Are the boys around? I'd
love to speak with them.

                       COREY ( BOY)
Hello, Daddy!

                       JAMES (MAN)
Corey, how are you doing?

                       COREY ( BOY)
I'm good Dad, When are you coming
home?

                       JAMES (MAN)
In one or two days.

                       COREY ( BOY)
Good, I miss you.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Miss you too, son. Now let me talk
with Kevin.

                       KEVIN (BOY)
Hey, Dad. How are you? We miss you
here. Will you be home soon?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Soon, son.

                       KEVIN (BOY)
What's going on? You sound
different.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Oh, just something your mother and
I are trying to work out. Maybe a
little vacation.

21.

                       KEVIN (BOY)
Cool. When?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Your mother will explain
everything to you and when discuss
more when I get home.

                       KEVIN (BOY)
Hey, Dad? I got in trouble today
for talking back to the teacher.

                       JAMES (MAN)
What!! But Kevin you're a nice
kid, What were you thinking?

                       KEVIN (BOY)
I'm sorry, Dad.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Kevin, did you apologize?

                       KEVIN (BOY)
I will.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Good. Let me speak with you mother
again.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
Hi, do you want me to tell the
boys anything?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Yes. Tell them the truth. Tell
them that we have talked and we'd
like to take them on a little
family vacation to Hall City. Get
their reactions. I don't think
they'd mind a little trip and a
few days out of school, do you?

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
      (laughing)
No, I don't think they'll give you
any arguments about that.

                       JAMES (MAN)
They're good students and they
could probably use the trip to
write a report for their teacher
about their experience in Hall
City.

22.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
Good idea.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Ok. I think we're settled for now.
I'll call you again tonight.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
I love you, James. Bye.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Honey, I love you too, bye.

James hangs up the phone and he is smiling.

                       JAMES (MAN)
      (talking/praying
       quietly)
Oh, Lord, I really do hope Megan
and the boys will like it here. I
found so much acceptance when I
spoke to these people the other
evening. I feel at peace here.
These are good tolerant people who
find it in their hearts to embrace
everyone.

INT. HOTEL ROOM LATER THAT EVENING - NIGHT

James is on the phone talking with Megan.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Honey, I've decided to fly back
the day after tomorrow. That'll
give me one more day to look
around and talk with people.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
I'm glad to here that and I'm sure
the boys will be happy too.

                       JAMES (MAN)
I've missed you and I want to come
home, but this is important to me,
to us also.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
I'm really trying to understand
and I'm willing to listen to you.
As a family we are important and
we must stick together.

23.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Thanks, Megan. I appreciate that.
Goodnight. I love you.

                       MEGAN (WOMAN)
      (sighs)
Me too, my love.

Both hang up their phones.

INT. NEXT MORNING IN FATHER SMITH'S CAR - DAY

Father Smith is driving slowly, nodding his head as he
listens to James' words.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
So, you're telling me that you'd
really consider relocating to Hall
City if the conditions are right.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Yes, I would. I just had a talk
with my wife last night; she
agrees to come for vacation.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Good, I knew it would work out.
Tell me where do you want to go
now?

                       JAMES (MAN)
Somewhere calm. I know maybe the
water fountain near the park.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Ok, I know one.

INT. JAMES AND FATHER SMITH AT THE WATER FOUNTAIN - DAY

James and Father Smith are at the water fountain talking.

                       JAMES (MAN)
It sure feels calm here. I think
that when Megan and the kids come,
I'll bring them here to have
lunch.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
You know what, that's not a bad
idea.

24.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Father Smith, I wanted to know a
about health care.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, James, health care is not a
big problem here in Hall City. If
you and your partner got kids they
will receive health care without a
problem.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Really I never suspected that, I
feel good to know it. In New York
City I see things differently,
the only way you can get health
care is if you have disability or
if you are at age 70. We pay
plenty in New York City. Are you
telling me there no cost for
health care?

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, James things here don't work
the way they do in New York City.
As you can see people care for one
another and know the importance of
health care.

                       JAMES (MAN)
What about employment?

                       PRIEST (MAN)
We here in Hall City don't have
high unemployment.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, it is possible I can get a
job here, if I move here.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Well, yeah it's very possible.
With your background, it should be
easy.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Well, I'm convinced. With the
photos I've taken and the
brochures I've collected along the
way these past few days, I have
enough to show my family. Let's
get John and go have dinner. I
think since this is my last night
in Hall City, at least for a
            (MORE)

little while, that I'd like to
treat you both to dinner.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
      (smiling)
I'd love to have dinner with you
and John especially if you're
paying. Thanks.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Tomorrow I leave for home, but I
plan to return with my family soon
for a vacation. Then we shall see.

INT. THE DINING ROOM OF A QUIET SEAFOOD RESTAURANT - NIGHT

                       JAMES (MAN)
      (proposes a toast)
I'd like to thank you gentlemen
for your hospitality and help
during my stay in Hall City.
Hopefully, this will be the
beginning of a long a beautiful
friendship. Cheers!

                       JOHN (MAN)
      (as they clink
       glasses)
Cheers!

                       PRIEST (MAN)
Cheers!

                       JOHN (MAN)
You look happy, James. More rested
than I've seen you look in a long
time.

                       JAMES (MAN)
You know, John, I feel great. I
only hope Megan will see what I
see in Hall City.

                       JOHN (MAN)
Do you think there might be a
problem? Would you like me to
speak with her on your behalf?
After all, she is my sister.

26.

                       PRIEST (MAN)
      (surprised)
You guys are related?!

                       JOHN (MAN)
Yes, that's one of the reasons I
stayed away during James' visit. I
did not want to influence him in
anyway.

                       JAMES (MAN)
Thanks for the offer, John, but
I'll be fine. This is something we
have to work out and agree on
together. What you can do for me,
though, is drive me to the airport
tomorrow. Will that be a problem?

                       JOHN (MAN)
My pleasure, brother-in-law. What
time?

                       JAMES (MAN)

makeup. After all it's been what,
