INT. LAB - DAY

There is a small room with four tables taking up most of the
space. They are littered with vials, test tubes,
microscopes, and books about Paleontology and Biology,
especially cloning. There is a large diagram of a
Deinonychus hanging on the wall. There is a rotating
chalkboard in one corner, which is covered in permutations
of the letters "ATGC". There are three male technicians and
one female. The female flips the board around and the
camera zooms in on the title of the film, "RAPTOR," written
in large lettering and underlined several times. The camera
backs away, and a male technician opens a large incubator
taking up half of another table. The camera zooms into the
space so that we see a small egg which is illuminated by a
rapidly shrinking strip of light. The lid is shut and the
inside is plunged into darkness.

EXT. SCHOOL - DAY

The subtitles say that the date is May 14, 2009, and school
is almost out. Students mill about before school begins.
Several play catch with a football while others stand in
tight-knit groups. One student, LARRY, walks alone. The
camera follows him across the rolling hills of the lawn and
into City High School.

INT. SCHOOL

He walks at a fast pace, and the linoleum blurs past. He
turns into the commons, a long, narrow room with rows of
television sets along one wall and a row of tables along the
other. He pauses in front of a practically unwatched
television displaying the latest news from CNN. The main
story is that a terrorist group within the United States has
threatened total destruction of the US, starting at the West
Coast, and cities in California have gone quiet.

                       ANCHOR
It's almost as if they've been
wiped off the map, folks. We've
been trying for hours to reach San
Francisco, and all we're getting
is static. Either there's some
serious electrical disturbance
going on, or we've got a real
threat going - wait, folks, it
looks like we've got a live feed
from one of the cities.

                       ANCHOR (cont'd)
I must warn you that the following
images are graphic in nature. If
any viewers have young children in
the room...now is the time.

EXT. SAN FRANCISCO - DAY

The image of the Anchor is replaced by a fuzzy video feed
from San Francisco. There are mangled people lying along
the roadside, and cars are completely stalled along the
road. The Golden Gate Bridge is in the foreground, and is
completely blocked by stalled cars. With a jolt, the
cameraman is thrown forward, and the camera rolls away down
the street, picking up speed, but a large, brown,
lizard-like shape is clearly visible, tearing at the
cameraman as his screams fill the air. The feed turns to
static.

INT. SCHOOL - DAY

Back in the commons, Larry turns from the static-filled
monitor and sits down. No one else seems to have noticed
the gruesome news. He looks around and then gets back up
again. He stands, paused, unsure of how to proceed.

INT. COMMONS - DAY

We now see the commons from Larry's POV. He looks around
and pauses at each entrance - windows, doors, etc. There
are some second-floor windows that look out over the commons
from the side of the tables. He sits again, and continues
scanning the room for another few minutes.

INT. COMMONS - DAY

Back to normal camera shots. He then jumps up and rushes up
a set of stairs in the corridor leading from the commons to
the second floor. Turning right, he walks into the library.
There is a center island of desks pushed together that
house about 20 computers in four rows. On either side, the
bookshelves extend back, about six or seven rows on either
side. There are about six shelves making up each row. He
slides into a seat in front of one of the computers and
pulls up an as-the-crow-flies approximator, which says the
distance is 2679 kilometers. He opens Calculator and

3.

divides 2679 by 75, the rate a Deinonychus runs in
kilometers per hour.

                       LARRY
Thirty-five hours. Since San Fran
happened, that leaves about six
hours. Six hours, that's all...

INT. FRENCH CLASSROOM - DAY

The French classroom is small and cramped, with about 25
desks arranged in a semicircle around the front wall that is
2 rows wide. The teacher, an old man with a scraggly white
beard that looks in no way intentional lectures the class in
a bored tone about the proper use of the imparfait verb
form. Larry sits near the window, looking out. He turns,
but the camera continues out the window as dark shapes
serpentine through the lawn, converging on the school. Fog
begins to roll in.

INT. CAFETERIA - DAY

The camera dollies past several tables at which students eat
the blobs that are standard fare at school lunches across
America. They laugh and talk, and there is some happy,
robust music playing. Suddenly, the music cuts off as the
Deinonychuses break through the shattering windows and enter
through the hallway as well. Lunch ladies scream and run to
the student body for protection, but some don't make it in
time and are jumped on and eaten, still alive and screaming.
Some students try making a break for the corridor, but the
dinosaurs are already waiting for them. The effect is
gradual, but as the students are whittled down, there is a
definite red tint to the air.

INT. SCIENCE CLASSROOM - DAY

There are about twenty students wearing white lab coats over
their standard fare of jeans and t-shirts. They are doing a
chemistry experiment, dropping chemicals from test-tube to
test-tube when the door is forced open by a single
Deinonychus. It sniffs the air, hesitating, before, it
slowly stalks in. The class is riveted when another five
jump in from the windows in the back. Screams fill the air
as students are eaten. One student turns on the oxygen
valve before lighting a match. The room is filled with an
explosion, and when the smoke clears, the white cinderblock
walls are stained gray and the only thing left is a single
scrap of white lab coat which floats onto the ash-covered
linoleum.

INT. FRENCH CLASSROOM - DAY

The door is forced open by a pack of five dinosaurs. Larry
curses and picks up his bag before rushing to the window.
The rest of the class is frozen in panic. A Deinonychus
rushes and pounces on the nearest student, which causes the
rest of the class to scream and begin to panic. Larry
forces open the window and lodges his backpack in between
the heater and the wall before climbing out the window.

EXT. FRENCH CLASSROOM WINDOW - DAY

Larry's arm is wrenched from the wall by the force of the
backpack and he topples off the edge of the building. He
falls and rolls, displaying his knowledge of martial arts.
He gets up and shakes himself vigorously. Suddenly, he
notices the Deinonychus staring at him from across the lawn.

EXT. SCHOOL - DAY

POV Deinonychus. The dinosaur takes off across the lawn
just as Larry begins moving. He runs to a red, shiny moped,
hot-wires it quickly, gets on, and roars off. The dino
continues after him.

EXT. SCHOOL - DAY

Regular camera angles. Larry slings his backpack over his
shoulder and takes off, wobbling a little as he gets used to
driving one-handed. He pushes the strap over his shoulder
and nearly wobbles out of control, but he now has two hands
free. He gets on the main road, but the dino still follows.

EXT. MAIN ROAD - DAY

CAMERA shoots from overhead, where the only part of the
moped visible through the now-intense fog is the headlamp.
The CAMERA lowers down to headlamp-level to show Larry
behind the wheel, then goes past him to see the Deinonychus
hot on his heels - and catching up.

EXT. MAIN ROAD - DAY

The Deinonychus leaps - but Larry speeds up, and the
dinosaur falls forward into the asphalt as a black Mercedes
peels around the corner, driving right over it. It squeals
in anguish, writhing before coming to rest. It's eye blinks
once.

INT. MARTIAL ARTS BUILDING - DAY

Larry runs along one wall of the dojo, collecting a katana
and several strong, wooden sticks that beginners use in lieu
of real swords. He slings the katana over his shoulder,
alongside the backpack, and carries the sticks out the glass

6.

door to the moped. He stops, staring at the out-of-focus
door. It slowly comes in focus to reveal a dinosaur
crouching behind a cabinet.

It lunges --

Larry swings --

and knocks it away with one of the sticks. It slides into
the corner, flopping madly before going still.

EXT. MAIN ROAD - DAY

Larry is seen driving along the road, back to the school.

EXT. MAIN ROAD - DAY

We see the side mirror, showing a Deinonychus running behind
him.

EXT. MAIN ROAD - DAY

Larry stops hard before pointing the katana behind him. The
Deinonychus slams into the point, impaling itself. Larry
pulls the sword from the dino's chest cavity and wipes it
along his jeans, leaving a bloody streak. He pushes behind
him with a grunt and the dino topples off the back of the
moped, landing heavily. Larry pushes the throttle again.

INT. SCHOOL - DAY

In one of the corridors, Larry looks around for any sign of
life.

                       LARRY
      (shouting,
       half-crazed)
Is - is anyone there? Please?
Anyone? Don't - don't be dead, oh
god, don't be dead!

Nobody responds, and he sits down heavily on the staircase
next to him.

                       RICHARD (V.O.)
Who's there?

7.

                       LARRY
      (relieved)
Larry Byrd! Who are you?

EXT. SCHOOL - DAY

There is now only a group of twenty or so people in the
front lawn. Larry, RICHARD, ANNA, THOMAS, and SARAH are the
main talkers, standing in the middle of the group.

                       LARRY
      (exasperated)
How many times do I have to
explain this to you - next to no
one here knows the least bit about
guns! It'll take longer to train
people to shoot than to cut with
swords, and it's just as
effective. The raptors are too
fast to shoot accurately.

                       ANNA
Larry's right. It's a lot easier
to swing than to fire a gun.
      (Beat)
But how are the rest of us going
to get weapons?

                       LARRY
Simple. There's a pickup truck on
a side street not too far from
here. I can hot-wire it pretty
fast, then someone runs into the
dojo, grabs more weapons, and we
get back.

                       RICHARD
And who's the suicidal idiot who
goes running in there?

                       ANNA
I was in track, I can run pretty
fast.

                       RICHARD
Anna, no!

                       ANNA
Shut up. This is no time for
younger-brother whining. We need
to get weapons and I'm the best
choice. Do you want to live or

EXT. MAIN ROAD - DAY

The fog is beginning to clear up, but visibility is still
low. A rusted pickup truck SPUTTERS and COUGHS down the
road. Thomas, Richard, and Sarah sit in the bed, looking
out and scouting for dinos. A pack of dinosaurs follow it
at a distance.

EXT. MARTIAL ARTS BUILDING - DAY

It's evening now. The truck parks next to the building and
Anna gets out. She has a wiry build which is perfect for
running and, true to her word, she is very fast. She vaults
through the broken door and is gone in a flash.

INT. MARTIAL ARTS BUILDING - DAY

Anna runs down the row of weapons, snatching them at random.
When she can no longer hold any more, she jumps through the
door again. Then she comes running back in, scooping more
weapons up.

Anna, the area's hot! Get back
here!

                       ANNA (V.O.)
Not yet!

                       THOMAS
Right now!

The lead dino jumps into the bed of the truck, biting
through Richard's neck before Thomas knocks it off the side
of the truck with a vicious swing. Thomas is shaking and
moaning in pain. Sarah rips off part of his pant leg as a
makeshift tourniquet.

                       THOMAS
Fuck it, Anna! If you don't get
back here this minute I'm going to
drag you out of there!

Anna runs from the dojo and sees Richard. She jumps into
the truck, weapons clattering into the cab. Larry puts his
foot on the gas and the truck lurches forward before
sputtering to a halt.

                       LARRY
Stalled. Hang on.

Larry manipulates the gearshift and soon the truck is off
again, leaving the pack in its wake. After a few seconds,
they follow.

INT. TERRORIST LAIR - NIGHT

A long, highly polished table stretches down a marble room.
At the head sits a tall, well-poised man hidden in shadow -
FISHER. He wears a top hat and a cane rests beside him. The
fire crackling behind him reflects through the crystal tip
of the cane, casting shifting red specks across the room.
The other chairs are occupied by clean-looking, elegant men.

                       FISHER
      (in a slow, deep,
       measured tone)
Well, men. It has been done.
Tonight, the dinosaurs are halfway
across the United States.
Tomorrow, it will be ours. We
will have accomplished what no

The CAMERA is slowly rotating around the table. Fisher's
smooth, bald head is coming into the light.

                       FISHER (CONT'D)
It's amazing, really, what we've
done. Now we have only to clean
up the remains, and we will have
succeeded. Until then, sirs, good
night.

The CAMERA now shows Fisher's head from the side, casting it
into sharp relief. He gets up, picks up his cane, and
strides past the other chairs. Only then do we see that
each occupant's head is slumped over. Fisher has been
talking to a room of dead men.

INT. COMMONS - DAY

The group is huddled around a small CB radio that they are
adjusting when suddenly a voice comes from it.

                       FISHER (V.O.)

- have turned the United States of
America into the American Empire
with myself as Emperor. The new
government is located in San
Francisco, California. Should
anyone be interested in applying
for a staff position, contact my
secretary there. Again, the
dinosaur attack was engineered by
me. I have instated myself as
Emperor of the American Empire,
with the government Capitol
located in San Francisco,
California. You can reach my
secretary at (415) 322 - 9171.
This message will be repeated
every five minutes.

                       LARRY

What the hell? Is this dude
insane? Who'd listen to him? An
American Empire? What the hell?

11.

                       ANNA
We need to get there before he
starts attracting followers.
Otherwise, we could really become
the American Empire.

                       SARAH
You're not actually going to take
this guy seriously, are you?

                       ANNA
He supposedly has a secretary, and
if he's the one who engineered -

                       LARRY
But that could be anyone! Nobody
knows if he really did engineer
this whole thing or not.

                       ANNA
It still means we need to speak
out. Broadcast on that frequency.

Larry fiddles with the CB radio.

                       ANNA
      (into the radio
       transmitter)
Hello. This is the temporary
government of the United States of
America. There has been a
broadcast on this frequency by a
man who claims to be the engineer
of this massacre. This is a lie.
There is no such American Empire.
The United States of America is
alive and functioning, and
beginning recovery efforts now.

I really, really don't like

EXT. SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - DAY

The aircraft touches down among the six lifeless jets. Smoke
still rises from where a jet crashed rather than land. The
ramp lowers and the six exit - Larry, Thomas, Anna, Sarah,
MARIO, and SOTOS. Each wield a wooden pole and a katana
strapped to their back.

                       SOTOS
Shit, where are the people?

                       LARRY
Dead. I think. Best not to look.

                       SOTOS
Are you fuckin kidding me? We
need all the people we can get to
stand up to this asshole.

                       LARRY
Yes, but we also need to stop him
before he amasses a large enough
following.

                       ANNA
Here's an idea: you and Mario look
for survivors while we go to stop
the guy.

                       MARIO
Fine by me.

Anna, Larry, Sarah, and Thomas walk off.

EXT. SAN FRANCISCO - DAY

Flies are buzzing as the four step around stopped cars and
dead bodies. The bodies have been torn apart, and there are

him?

                       THOMAS
I see him. Want me to -

                       LARRY
No. Keep calm and try not to
attract his attention. We don't
want a battle on our hands. Not
yet, anyway.

EXT. SAN FRANCISCO - DAY

Sotos and Mario?

                       LARRY
I don't know. It seems dangerous.
Let's keep moving, and if they
catch up, they catch up. But it
could be a robber or a follower of
that nutjob.

EXT. TERRORIST LAIR - DAY

The marble columns rise into the air, and there's no dome,
but the sign says it all: "American Empire Capitol
Building." Larry stops the others with his arm and turns to
see a wave of dinos that have been following them and that
they haven't seen because of all the cars.

                       LARRY
      (shouting)
RUN!

14.

The others turn and scramble up the steps. Thomas falls and
slips down the steps. The dinos are almost on him. Anna
turns back to help.

                       THOMAS
      (shouting)
Go! I'll catch up later!

Anna keeps running until Larry wraps his arms around her and
holds her back, pulling her to the entrance.

                       LARRY
      (reassuringly)
You have to take care of the
mission or we'll all be dead.
Thomas will be fine.

                       ANNA
      (shouting)
You bastard! You know full well
he won't!

Larry has nothing to say to that, but manages to pull Anna
back inside and close the door. Anna sits and starts
crying.

EXT. TERRORIST LAIR - DAY

Thomas scrambles up the steps and takes wide, swinging blows
with his stick. Dinos are knocked away, but the wave of
pressing dinos is getting bigger.

                                         CUT TO:

EXT. TERRORIST LAIR - DAY

At the edge of the mob of dinos, Sotos and Mario press
forward, swinging their sticks around in wide circles around
them. They cut through the mob to Thomas.

                       THOMAS
Get the door open! I'll hold them
off!

Mario and Sotos pull open the door and Thomas backs inside.
Sotos pushes the door shut.

15.

                       THOMAS
      (still facing the
       door)
Thanks, guys.

The CAMERA spins around from Thomas's back to show Mario
pointing his katana at the back of Thomas's neck.

                       MARIO
Don't thank me yet.

INT. TERRORIST LAIR - DAY

Larry, Anna, and Sarah enter the long room with the table.
From their angle, it looks like the occupants are still
alive.

                       FISHER
      (in a slow, deep,
       measured tone)
Hello.

Fisher CLAPS his hands, and lights blare on, casting light
on the now-obviously-dead people. Each has a hole in their
temple, and blood is covering almost all of their faces.

                       SARAH
      (in disgust)
Dear God.

INT. TERRORIST LAIR ENTRANCE - DAY

Thomas whips his stick around to throw off Mario's katana
before spinning around to block another attack by Sotos.
Thomas subtly moves his hands to the center of the pole to
combat this two-sided offense.

He jabs at Sotos, who steps back, then swings at Mario,
slamming the end of the stick into his shoulder. Mario
CURSES before slicing at him again. Thomas neatly blocks it
before turning back to Sotos and kicking him in the solar
plexus, which he has left unguarded. Sotos and Mario
freeze, and Thomas turns sideways so that he can see them
both.

INT. TERRORIST LAIR - DAY

Mario and Sotos walk in through the door.

                       SOTOS
Are you still hiring?

                       LARRY
      (moaning)
Oh no...

                       FISHER
I suppose. But it seems you know
these three. How can you prove
your loyalty to me?

                       MARIO
We killed one of them that was
left behind.

                       ANNA
      (screaming)
No! Thomas! You bastards, I'll
kill you!

                       SOTOS
      (grinning)
There's a horde of raptors out
there. We threw 'im out.

                       FISHER
They're called Deinonychuses, not
raptors.

                       SOTOS
Whatever. Point is, he's dead.

                       FISHER
Hmm. But I don't know he ever
existed. Kill these three and
I'll let you join me.

                       LARRY
      (in shock)
But - but why?

                       MARIO
Power, sonny boy. We'll have
power.

Sarah and Anna attack Sotos and Mario. Larry, who is not
needed, runs toward Fisher.

17.

                       FISHER
      (holding up a
       revolver that had
       been on the table)
One more step, boy, and you're
dead.

Larry pauses, unsure of how to proceed.

Each of the six dead men is quickly cut to, each dead,
mouths wide open in terror, fists clenched.

                       LARRY
      (grinning)
I don't believe you.

Larry runs at Fisher, pulling his katana out as he runs.
Fisher pulls the trigger - it clicks, empty. He looks
frightened for a moment before Larry runs him through. He
stays upright for a moment, then slides off the end of the
sword.

INT. TERRORIST LAIR - DAY

As Sotos and Mario battle Anna and Sarah, the door slowly
opens, and a bloodstained Thomas slips inside. Unseen by
everyone, he pulls out the katana and suddenly shoves it
through Sotos. Mario yells in fear, distracted enough for
Anna to decapitate him neatly. The two traitors fall.

                       ANNA
      (relieved, and
       angry)
Where were you?

18.

                       THOMAS
Battling hundreds of dinos. You?

Anna looks at him before hugging him.

                       ANNA
Never...do that...again.

                       THOMAS
Don't worry. Hopefully this is a
rare event.

They all laugh and grab the CB radio Fisher was using.

                       LARRY
This is Larry Byrd speaking. The
American Empire is no more. The
supposed Emperor is dead. The new
United States of America is
located here instead. Please come
to vote. Thank you.

INT. NEWS ROOM - DAY

A news anchor pauses at his desk. It is a French channel,
with English subtitles.

                       ANCHOR
      (in French)
In other news, carbon emissions
are down approximately five
percent...
