EVIL DEEDS

FADE IN:

INT. CONWAY LIVING ROOM - EVENING

The house is elegantly decorated; exuding class.

KEVIN CONWAY (8), intelligent and innocent, stares through a
glass office door at his father, DILLON CONWAY, 40, wealthy
and proud of it.

Dillon, in a rage, boisterously screams to himself in the
empty room.

WILLOW CONWAY, 40, caring and mild, approaches Kevin (8).

                       WILLOW
I'm so proud of you--your diagram
looked amazing. You're going to do
big things.

Kevin (8) smiles. The office door bursts open and Dillon
storms out. He gets in Willow's face and stares at her for
several tense moments.

                       DILLON
      (to Willow)
Why do you lie to me?

                       WILLOW
What are you talking about?

                       DILLON
Tell me his name!

Willow nervously turns to Kevin (8).

                       WILLOW
Go to your room, sweetie.

Dillon gets in Willow's face. Kevin (8) scrams.

                       DILLON
Who?

                       WILLOW
There's no one--

Dillon violently slaps Willow.

2.

Kevin (8), on the other side of the room, dials 911. The
sounds of Dillon SMACKING Willow are chilling.

INT. CONWAY LIVING ROOM - LATER

Dillon and Willow are separated on opposite sides of the
room by two detectives. JAMES CAVANAUGH, 40, ambitious and
gruff and MORGAN CLAYBORN, 30 and observant.

Kevin (8) cowers in the corner near Willow, watching on.
Willow's face is beat red, her eyes despondent.

                       WILLOW
It was just a little
argument--we're fine.

                       DILLON
      (to Morgan)
Are you two about done here?

                       MORGAN
Sir, you're gonna have to come
with us.

                       DILLON
This is ridiculous! Do you have
any idea who I am?

James pulls Morgan to the side.

                       JAMES
He's friends with the Mayor--I'm
not taking him in over this.

                       MORGAN
His wife and son aren't safe here.

                       JAMES
I'm not flushing my career down
the toilet--I have a future in
this department. We're not taking
him in.

Morgan, disheartened, reluctantly nod.

                       JAMES
      (cont'd)
Okay folks, I believe we're done
here.

Kevin (8) rushes to Morgan's side.

3.

                       KEVIN (8)
Please, don't go.

                       DILLON
Kevin!

                       MORGAN
It'll be alright, you got your
parents here.

Kevin (8) looks desperately looks as James and Morgan exit
the house.

INT. KEVIN'S BEDROOM/HALLWAY - LATER

Kevin (8) lays in bed unable to sleep. The lights are
completely out in his room, moonlight shines through a
window onto his face.

SCREAMS break the sanctity of the night.

                       WILLOW (O.S.)
I don't know what you're talking
about!

                       DILLON (O.S.)
Who is he? What's his name?

Kevin (8) has a terrified look on his face. A VASE BREAKS
against the wall in the other room.

                       WILLOW (O.S)
You've been drinking! You don't
know what you're talking about!

                       DILLON (O.S.)
Don't change the subject!

                       WILLOW (O.S.)
I swear Dillon, there was no one!
There was no one!

Her cries spill loudly into the night.

                       DILLON (O.S.)
I saw him with my own eyes. How
could you in our house?

                       WILLOW (O.S.)
I didn't!

4.

                       DILLON (O.S.)
You lie to me!

                       WILLOW (O.S.)
I swear.

                       DILLON (O.S.)
This is your fault, Willow! This
is on your head, not mine!

                       WILLOW (O.S.)
Oh God, please don't!

THREE LOUD GUNSHOTS. Kevin (8) quickly sits up, shaking,
sweat trickling down his face.

                       DILLON (O.S.)
You stupid bitch.

ONE LAST GUNSHOT. Then silence. Kevin (8) gets out of bed,
in his white pajamas. The hallway light is on.

Kevin (8) slowly shuffles down the hallway. He approaches
his parent's bedroom and peers in.

Instantly his face drains of color.

The room is completely trashed. lamps are broken and end
tables flipped. Willow, is dead on the floor. She is in a
pink bath robe, covered in a pool of blood.

Dillon is slumped over in a chair, a bullet through the
bottom of his neck to the top of his head. He is wearing a
suit. A thin wave of smoke hovers by the gun.

Kevin (8) stares at the scene with a cold look. He rushes to
Willow's side and grips her; his face turns to a pathetic
mess. His white pajamas are now a crimson canvas of murder.

INT. DILLON AND WILLOW'S BEDROOM - LATER

A BRIGHT LIGHT FLASHES

as a FORENSIC PHOTOGRAPHER surveys the scene.

Morgan and James are among the personnel there.

CSU officers collect evidence of the fresh murder-suicide.

                       JAMES
Do we know what started the
argument?

5.

                       MORGAN
No, the boy is still too shaken up
to talk.

                       JAMES
It's a damn shame.

Morgan gets in James' face.

                       MORGAN
They're dead because of us! We
could've taken him in!

                       JAMES
Grow up! One night in County
wouldn't have made any difference.

Morgan shoves James and exits the room.

EXT. CONWAY DRIVEWAY - MORNING

Police cars. Blues setting up crime tape.

The morning sun peaks over the horizon. Police lights eerily
reflect around the house. A meat wagon with a one-way ticket
to the morgue awaits it's passengers.

Kevin (8) sits on the front steps, a blanket wrapped around
him and his blood stained pajamas.

Morgan approaches Kevin (8), wraps his arms around him. He
looks up, the horror of his parent's death still in his
eyes.

                       MORGAN
I'm so sorry what happened Kevin.

Kevin (8) tries to speak but the words don't come. His face
filled with an anguished vulnerability.

Willow and Dillon are wheeled out on stretchers, their
bodies covered in white sheets.

Kevin Conway, now late 20's, disarmingly handsome, medium
built, with sharp facial features and a short haircut, sits

eyes wide, dart back and forth.

6.

                       KEVIN
      (mumbling to
       himself)
He saw me. What do I do? What do I
do? What do I do?

He appears disturbed by the thoughts running through his
head.

Flores is a middle aged, husky, wearing an obnoxiously
bright orange and white suit.

Our top story, the FBI released
it's annual crime statistics today
and it was not good news for the
city of Denver. For more we'll go
to Courtney Connors.

EXT. DENVER STREETS - MORNING

COURTNEY CONNORS, stunning, thin, dark haired, with piercing
eyes, early 30's. She is busty and makes no attempt to hide
it by her attire.

The street behind her is busy with cars and people moving
about and rubbernecking.

                       COURTNEY
Thank you Michelle. According to
the FBI's yearly crime statistics,
overall crime is up three percent
in the city. Murder is up four
percent since last year and this
has left many of us with
questions....

INT. FLETCHER'S KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS

We see the newscast was being shown on a small TELEVISION in
the Fletcher's kitchen.

EGGS COOKING in a pan. It is a very plain, typical middle
American kitchen. VIVIAN Fletcher cooks over the stove.

                       BRANIGAN (V.O.)
Our other top story, the city of
Denver prepares today for what
many expect to be one of the
biggest snow storms in our city's
history.

Vivian is dressed in a sharp gray work suit and is in her
early 20s. She looks very plain, despite her dress.

The Fletcher family is convened for breakfast.

8.

MIKE the husband, JILLIAN the 8 year old daughter, and
JEREMY the 6 year old son are all at the table, dressed and
ready to eat.

Mike is wearing a cable repairman's uniform, along with a
baseball cap. He is in his early 30's and in good shape for
his age. He has the aura of a honest, hard working father.

Jillian and Jeremy are both thin and dark haired. There is
nothing striking about the way they look or are dressed.
Jillian is wearing a butterfly hair clip.

                       JILLIAN
Daddy, can we go to the zoo this
weekend?

Jeremy looks up excited.

                       JEREMY
Oh yeah Daddy, can we please?

Vivian enters with a pan and scoops food on everyone's
plates. Vivian and Mike look at one another questioningly.

                       MIKE
We're way too busy for that this
weekend.

                       JILLIAN
Mom!

                       VIVIAN
You heard your father, maybe next
weekend.

EXT. GRADE SCHOOL PARKING LOT - MORNING

The Fletcher's car, a black Ford Explorer pulls up to the
school. Mike is driving. Vivian exits and opens the door for
the kids to get out. Snow trickles down around them.

                       MIKE
Love you guys.

Jillian and Jeremy get out of the car. Jillian has a pink
backpack with a white unicorn on the back.

                       VIVIAN
Love you two.

Vivian gives both of them a hug.

9.

                       JEREMY
Love you too Mom.

Jillian grumpily shrugs her shoulders.

Vivian gets back in the car. Jillian and Jeremy walk towards
the front door as their parents drive away. Dozens of
boisterous children bustle about.

LOUD WHISTLE FROM O.S.

                       KEVIN
Excuse me, young lady!

Jillian turns and regards Kevin, wearing a thick, yet
fashionable collared shirt and a leg cast.

Kevin stands a few feet away next to the open trunk of a
blue van, an awkward shaped box in front of him.

                       JILLIAN
Who me?

                       KEVIN
Yes, you young lady.

Jillian cautiously approaches.

                       KEVIN
      (CONT'D)
My leg is broken and I am having
an awful time getting this box in
my van.

Jillian looks from Kevin's cast to the box on the ground
next to him.

                       JILLIAN
Let me help you with that.

                       KEVIN
Oh thank you. You're a very sweet
girl--I promise no good deed goes
unrewarded.

Jillian walks over and lifts the box up.

                       JILLIAN
No problem.

Jillian turns and places the box in the van. Kevin quickly
wraps his arms around her and puts a cloth to her mouth.

10.

Jillian violently struggles, scratching Kevin's face. Her
backpack helplessly drops to the ground.

She goes limp. Kevin gently lays her body in the back and
closes the van door.

Kevin runs and jumps in his van which is already started.
Jeremy looks at this scene in horror.

                       JEREMY
Let go of my sister!

The van speeds off, turns a corner and goes out of sight.
All that's left behind is Jillian's backpack.

EXT. MIDDLE CLASS DENVER NEIGHBORHOOD - MORNING

BRANDON BRADLEY jogs around his neighborhood. He is in his
late 20s, tall, charming, in great shape, with striking
features. A damn good looking fella.

Dark gray clouds linger in the sky. Snow flakes slowly
trickle down. He gets to his red brick house, jogs up the
porch stairs and unlocks the door.

INT. BRADLEY LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Incandescent light fills the room, painting the furniture
and walls a radiant yellow.

Brandon looks at his wife GWYNETH BRADLEY, sitting on the
couch cradling their young daughter ANGELA BRADLEY.

Gwyneth is in her mid 20s and has long flowing blond hair.
She is barefoot, in her pajamas and not wearing any makeup.

                       GWYNETH
Good morning stinky.

                       BRANDON
Morning poop face.

Brandon walks over to the couch leans in and kisses Gwyneth;
a soft warm kiss that lovers share. He turns and tickles,
then kisses Angela.

                       BRANDON
      (CONT'D)
So what's for breakfast?

11.

                       GWYNETH
I was thinking of a tasty bowl of
Cheerios, a banana, a Pop Tart and
some orange juice. It's all ready
for you, sitting in the cupboard
and fridge.

Brandon winks at Gwyneth.

                       BRANDON
      (sarcastically)
You're the best sweetheart.

INT. BRADLEY BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Brandon enters the bedroom. A picture from their wedding day
hangs in an obvious spot. The bedroom is cluttered, but not
dirty, reflective of two busy young parents.

He undresses down to his boxers, grabs a towel and goes in
the bathroom. Brandon's gun and badge rest on the
nightstand.

INT. MORGAN'S KITCHEN - MORNING

The room is dreary. Sunlight streams through the dusty
windows, reflecting off particles floating in the air.

Morgan sits by himself at his kitchen table eating
breakfast, now in his early 50s, has short, faded black
hair, with just a touch of gray. He has a thick mustache
that suits his features.

The house is completely silent; there is a noticeable
loneliness.

INT. MORGAN'S BEDROOM- MORNING - DAY

Morgan stands at the dresser fixing his plain brown tie,
which goes to his plain brown suit.

The beleaguered expression on his face matches his suit and
apartment.

MORGAN'S DRESSER

Pictures of his family are prominently displayed. A wife,
son and daughter. It is obvious they are not close in his
life. An Alcoholics Anonymous chip rests next to the
pictures.

12.

He gazes at the pictures, sad and empty.

INT. MORGAN'S CAR - MORNING

Morgan drives his older Cadillac, pulling up to a busy
Police Station. People hustle back and forth during a shift
change. Snow trickles down, heavier than before.

EXT. POLICE STATION PARKING LOT - CONTINUOUS

He pulls in and finds a spot to park. He opens the door and
steps out. Two Cops are bringing in TRASHY MAN and TRASHY
WOMAN.

                       TRASHY MAN
      (to WOMAN)
You can go to hell.

                       TRASHY WOMAN
Nice new girlfriend, is she legal?

                       TRASHY MAN
Born in Englewood, bitch.

                       TRASHY WOMAN
I meant is she eighteen, retard.

Trashy Man and Trashy Woman are led away and out of sight.
COREY, heavyset, early 50's, decked in blues strolls
alongside Morgan.

                       COREY
Morning, Morgan.

                       MORGAN
Morning Corey, how are you?

The two head towards the door of the station. They are
surrounded by several other cops walking back and forth.

                       COREY
Good, Rob and I are heading up to
Estes Park to do some sightseeing
and candy shopping tomorrow.

                       MORGAN
That sounds lovely.

                       COREY
What are you up to? The usual,
lying around at home in your
underwear, on the couch watching

cheesy 80s movies and eating tuna
out of a can?

                       MORGAN
      (laughing)
Very funny Corey. I was actually
thinking of having chicken in a
can this weekend.

                       COREY
Fancy.

Morgan looks up at the snowflakes floating down from the
sky.

                       MORGAN
There's supposed to be a lot of
snow today.

                       COREY
That's why I'm glad I work inside.

Morgan and Corey walk inside the station.

INT. POLICE STATION BREAK ROOM - MORNING

The station has a chaotic atmosphere of people walking
about, phones ringing, and police work being attended to.

MATT SANCHEZ, thin, dark haired, intelligent, mid 20's
stands by the coffee machine.

Several feet away, ALISSA, 20's and attractive in her blues,
runs papers from one side of the station to the other.

TODD, a stud of a man, approaches Alissa. He flirtatiously
rubs her arm as they share a laugh.

Matt's eyes are flinty and hard, riveted at the sight.
Brandon walks up next to Matt and pours himself a cup of
coffee. He notices what has Matt's attention.

                       BRANDON
It's been three weeks already--you
gotta move on.

                       MATT
Thanks for the pep talk.

                       BRANDON
You can do better than her.

14.

                       MATT
By the looks of it, she's already
done better than me.

Alissa awkwardly approaches. Matt wants to get away but is a
deer stuck in headlights.

                       ALISSA
Hey guys, you have a kidnapping
outside Columbine Grade School.

The tension between Matt and Alissa is palpable.

EXT. CITY STREETS - MORNING

Courtney Connors and DOUG, her cameraman, Doug, who is in
his late 30s, looks scruffy in jeans, a long sleeve shirt
and an old baseball cap, stand next to their news van.

Courtney applies makeup to herself while looking at the side
mirror of the van. Doug adjusts a television camera. Cars
and people criss cross around without taking notice of them.

                       COURTNEY
I hate the snow--I'm definitely a
warm wheather girl.

                       DOUG
Maybe you'll get reassigned to
Miami one of these days.

Courtney pauses from putting on makeup; her eyes meet Doug's
and smiles.

                       COURTNEY
I can dream can't I?

A TEEN GIRL approaches Courtney.

                       TEEN GIRL
Oh my god, you're Courtney
Connors!

Courtney's face lights up at the attention, but casual plays
it off.

                       COURTNEY
Yes, I am.

She shakes Teen Girl's hand.

15.

                       TEEN GIRL
It's so nice to meet you--I'm
you're sister's biggest fan! She's
the reason I'm studying
journalism.

                       COURTNEY
Well, we're all very proud of her.

                       TEEN GIRL
It was nice meeting you.

Teen Girl strolls away.

                       DOUG
So how was your weekend?

                       COURTNEY
      (shakes her head)
Terrible.

                       DOUG
Why, what happened?

                       COURTNEY
Some asshole broke into my house
on Saturday.

Doug lowers the camera to his side and looks at Courtney in
shock.

                       DOUG
Oh my God, are you ok?

                       COURTNEY
Yeah, I'm fine. It wasn't that big
of a deal.

                       DOUG
Why didn't you call?

                       COURTNEY
The police said it was probably
just a drunk fan. The only thing
they took was a picture.

                       DOUG
You should've called.

16.

                       COURTNEY
      (reassuringly)
Everything's fine, I promise. I
guess I am just really popular
amongst the psychos.

Courtney's PHONE RINGS. She answers.

                       COURTNEY
Hello?

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
Hi Courtney, how are you?

                       COURTNEY
      (annoyed)
I'm fine. May I ask who this is?

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
You may.

                       COURTNEY
      (puzzled)
Ok, who is this?

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
My name's Kevin Conway.

                       COURTNEY
I'm sorry, do I know you?

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
I have a story for you. The
biggest of your career.

                       COURTNEY
I'm about two seconds from hanging
up.

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
You know about the kidnapping at
Columbine Elementary?

                       COURTNEY
Yes, we just got the call a couple
of minutes ago. Thanks for the
scoop, asshole.

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
I am the one who kidnapped her.

Courtney's eyebrows raise, stunned. She turns to Doug, who
now seems interested in the call.

17.

                       COURTNEY
What did you say?

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
I kidnapped a young girl named
Jillian and have her safe and
sound,
(beat)
for now.

                       COURTNEY
Why are you calling me? How did
you get my number?

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
I am about to turn myself in to
DPD--you might want to be there.

                       COURTNEY
Oh I will be.

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
There's more I need to tell you.

EXT. ACROSS THE STREET FROM POLICE STATION - MOMENTS LATER

The street is alive with cars and people going about their
day, unaware of the predator only feet away from them.

Kevin, smartly dressed in a beige suit, blue shirt, khaki
pants and dress shoes. He pockets his cell phone. He has an
icy, determined stare accompanied by a condescending smirk.

He contemplates his fate for several moments.

Kevin steps off the curb, towards the station. Cars criss
cross by him. He passes several people who take no notice of
him.

INT. POLICE STATION - DAY

Kevin waltzes in the front door and up to Corey, who is
seated at the front desk. Her head is down, buried in
paperwork.

He leans against the wall and stares, waiting for her to
take notice. After a few moments she looks up. Kevin eyes
the name on her badge.

18.

                       KEVIN
      (smoothly)
I absolutely love what you've done
with your hair Ms. Blakeman

                       COREY
      (annoyed)
Actually it's Mrs. Blakeman.

                       KEVIN
My apologies.

                       COREY
What can I do for you?

Kevin's demeanor turns from flirtatious to serious.

                       KEVIN
Actually, I came to turn myself
in.

                       COREY
Ok, do you have a warrant?

                       KEVIN
No.

                       COREY
      (confused)
What are you turning yourself in
for?

                       KEVIN
Murder
(beat)
and kidnapping.

Corey's body becomes very stiff; her face disturbed.

                       COREY
Excuse me?

                       KEVIN
Well, I guess technically it's
eleven murders and a kidnapping.

                       COREY
Is this some type of joke?

                       KEVIN
No, I assure you it's not.

19.

Corey pulls her gun out of its holster, pointing it at
Kevin. A pin drop can now be heard. He calmly raises his
hands and puts them on his head.

                       COREY
Keep your hands on your head and
slowly walk this way.

The room becomes still. Everyone in the room is now intently
watching them.

                       KEVIN
      (sincerely)
I promise I am on my best
behavior.

Kevin walks towards the back as other officers approach.

EXT. COLUMBINE GRADE SCHOOL - DAY

Brandon and Matt inspect along the outside of the school.
Police lights vividly flash in the background. Snow
continues to come down, heavier now.

                       BRANDON
Have you thought about going to a
speed dating night?

                       MATT
Now you're just making fun of me.

                       BRANDON
I'm not making fun of you, man.

                       MATT
Sure sounds like you are.

                       BRANDON
I'm just saying you gotta do
something.

Brandon and Matt continue looking around the exterior of the
school.

                       BRANDON
      (cont'd)
How many places are there a kid
could hide?

                       MATT
There's a million.

20.

Morgan jogs from the inside of the school.

                       MORGAN
Sanchez, Bradley!

Brandon and Matt look up at Morgan.

                       MORGAN
We got a call. A suspect just
turned himself in.

Brandon and Matt give each other an excited look.

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY

The door to the room opens. It's a small, plain gray brick
room. This is the room where criminals break. Todd leads
Kevin Conway in.

                       TODD
Would you like an attorney
present?

                       KEVIN
He's on his way.

                       TODD
Do you want the detectives to wait
till he gets here?

                       KEVIN
No I'm happy to talk.

                       TODD
I'll let them know.
(motions to chair)
Have a seat.

                       KEVIN
      (pleasantly
       compliant)
Sure thing officer.

Kevin sits. The door closes behind him. Kevin coyly looks
around the room.

After a small wait the door opens and CHARLES, middle aged,
in an awkward brown suit and a red bow tie, black briefcase
clutched in his hand, smarmy little man enters.

21.

                       KEVIN
      (CONT'D)
Charles! So good you to see you,
it's been far too long.

Charles' expression combines both concern and disbelief.

                       CHARLES
What kind of mess have you gotten
yourself into?

                       KEVIN
I don't even get a hello?

                       CHARLES
Sure Kevin, your trust pays me by
the hour. Hello.

Charles sarcastically waves and smiles at Kevin, who looks
amused.

                       KEVIN
How are the wife and kids?

                       CHARLES
You mean the nag and my two
disappointments?

                       KEVIN
I've missed you Charles.

                       CHARLES
Kevin, why am I here?

                       KEVIN
I've done some very bad things to
very bad people.

                       CHARLES
What did you do?

Kevin suspiciously looks at the two way mirror, then back at
Charles.

                       CHARLES
      (CONT'D)
Don't worry--we're alone.

                       KEVIN
I killed a few people.

                       CHARLES
You what?

22.

                       KEVIN
I've killed eleven people.

                       CHARLES
And you came here to turn yourself
in?

                       KEVIN
No, not exactly.

INT. FRONT ROOM OF POLICE STATION - DAY

Corey sits at her desk whispering to some of the other cops.
The front door to the station opens; Courtney, now wearing
stylish cat-eye sunglasses, and Doug enter.

The attention of everybody in the room immediately focuses
on Courtney. She knows it. Courtney confidently saunters up
to the front desk.

                       COREY
Hello.

                       COURTNEY
Hi, Courtney Connors, Channel Nine
News.

                       COREY
      (unimpressed)
I know who you are. What can I do
for you?

Courtney pulls out a notebook and shuffles through it. She
finds what she wants and looks back at Corey.

                       COURTNEY
I need to speak to Captain
Cavanaugh.

                       COREY
The Captain's very busy today--
I'm not sure he'll be able to do
an interview.

                       COURTNEY
I'm here about the young girl who
was kidnapped from Columbine
Elementary.

23.

                       COREY
      (annoyed)
I'm sure you are, but the
Captain's still very busy.

                       COURTNEY
If he knew why I was here, he
would like to talk to me just as
much as I want to talk to him.

                       COREY
What do you mean?

                       COURTNEY
I received a call from a man
saying his name was Kevin Conway.
He admitted to kidnapping Jillian
Fletcher from Columbine Elementary
today. He also gave me some other
information.

                       COREY
What other information?

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Kevin and Charles whisper to one another. The door opens and
they both become quiet. Morgan, Matt and Brandon enter.

                       MORGAN
Hello, I'm Detective
Clayborn--these are Detectives
Bradley and Sanchez.

They reach out and quickly and politely shake Kevin's hand.
Charles stands and extends his hand.

                       CHARLES
I'm Mr. Conway's attorney, Charles
Townsend.

Charles's handshake is completely ignored. Charles turns
away, a disgusted look on his face.

                       CHARLES
      (CONT'D)
That's fine, just ignore the
lawyer.

Charles sits back down in his chair, sulking, crossing his
arms. Kevin glares at Morgan. He can not take his eyes off
him.

24.

Morgan notices. A slight recognition sets in, one he can't
put his finger on.

                       BRANDON
So Kevin, what are we doing here
today?

                       KEVIN
      (sarcastically)
They sent you in here without
telling you? I expected more from
the Denver Police Department.

                       BRANDON
No, we were told why you are here.
Quite frankly we didn't believe
it.

                       MATT
We just wanted to hear why you are
here for ourselves.

                       CHARLES
You don't have to answer anything
you don't want to Kevin.

Kevin turns his head and winks at Charles. He then turns
back to the three detectives.

                       KEVIN
Sure thing Detective Clayborn. I
am here to confess to kidnapping
Jillian Fletcher.

Brandon and Morgan are both clearly stunned. Kevin just
looks back and forth at them, that arrogant smirk still
glued to his face.

                       BRANDON
Well, this is the easiest case
I've ever seen.

                       KEVIN
You two are so blind. You could
see a naked man chasing a woman
through an alley with a butcher
knife and a hard on and you'd
think he was collecting for the
Red Cross.

                       BRANDON
Alright, take it easy Dirty Harry.

25.

                       MORGAN
There is something else isn't
there? You aren't just here to
confess to kidnapping?

                       KEVIN
Very astute, detective.

                       BRANDON
Well, then what's the catch?

                       KEVIN
      (smug)
I've commited eleven murders.

                       BRANDON
You seem to think this behavior's
something to be proud of?

                       KEVIN
You seem under the impression I
care what you think.

                       MORGAN
Is she safe?

                       KEVIN
At the moment,
(beat)
yes.

                       BRANDON
So what now?

Kevin's expression turns serious.

                       KEVIN
The only way that anyone will see
that little girl alive again is if
I am able to confess, publicly to
all eleven murders and get away
with them Scott free. Full
immunity, no prison, no probation,
not so much as a slap on the
wrist.

                       BRANDON
      (disgusted)
No purple heart or key to the
city?

26.

                       KEVIN
No, but I do have some demands
before we begin.

                       BRANDON
      (to Morgan)
Demands? Check this guy out.

                       KEVIN
I want a stereo in here playing
Mozart--he calms my nerves.

                       BRANDON
Is he serious?

                       MORGAN
I think he is.

                       KEVIN
I would like a coffee, medium
cream, light on sugar. I also
request two Milky Way bars--I saw
some in the vending machine.

                       BRANDON
Who do you think you are exactly?

                       KEVIN
      (gravely)
Detectives, the decisions you make
today are the difference between a
little girl living and dying.

INT. OUTSIDE INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY

Brandon, Matt and Morgan stand next to the two way mirror.
Inside; Kevin incoherently whispers to himself.

                       BRANDON
Do you know that guy or
something--the way he was looking
at you?

                       MORGAN
Yeah, I noticed. I'm not sure.

                       MATT
So what are we looking at?

                       MORGAN
This guy's smart and he has a
plan.

27.

                       BRANDON
He probably lives in his
grandmother's basement and only
eats ketchup.

                       MORGAN
The biggest mistake you could make
is to assume he's "just crazy".

Brandon wrinkles his face, skeptical.

                       MATT
Can you break him?

                       MORGAN
He's already broken.

Brandon shakes his head.

                       BRANDON
I've never seen anything quite
like this.

                       MORGAN
This guy came in here prepared for
an interrogation. He literally has
everything to lose by cooperating
with us.

                       BRANDON
Not to mention we are on a time
limit and he knows it.

Todd walks up behind them.

                       TODD
Captain needs to see you guys in
his office.

Brandon and Morgan give each other an uneasy look. They walk
through the bustling station

                       BRANDON
He said nothing about who his
murder victims were?

                       MORGAN
Not a word.

28.

INT. JAMES CAVANAUGH'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

The office is filled with pictures, books, and mugsheets.
Piles of paperwork abound, yet the office is meticulously
well kept.

James Cavanaugh, much thinner and more frail than the last
time we saw him is on the phone. A cane rests visibly next
to his desk.

Despite his physical condition, he is a department power to
be reckoned with.

Brandon, Matt and Morgan stand there quietly, awkwardly
looking around the room, waiting for the phone call to end.

                       JAMES
What do you mean?
(beat)
As if this was not a big enough
disaster already.

James slaps his free hands against his forehead and closes
his eyes.

                       JAMES
      (CONT'D)
Yeah, tell her I will be down to
do it shortly.

James hangs up the phone. He looks up, with an intimidating
glare, at Brandon and Morgan.

                       JAMES
      (CONT'D)
We have a problem.

                       BRANDON
What's that, Captain?

                       JAMES
Apparently our nut case downstairs
decided to call Channel Nine News
and let them know he kidnapped our
missing girl.

James gets out of his seat, grabbing his cane to assist him.
He steps towards Brandon and Morgan, maintaining an
intimidating stare.

                       MORGAN
He did what?

29.

                       JAMES
A reporter from Channel Nine News
is downstairs. They are about to
run the full story.

                       BRANDON
So what does this mean?

                       JAMES
It means that we don't have the
same time window we had before. It
means we need results and we need
them quickly.

                       MORGAN
Yes Captain.

                       BRANDON
You got it.

                       JAMES
Gentlemen, this case requires a
swift resolution. The public will
demand it and this department will
provide it.

INT. POLICE STATION - MOMENTS LATER

Brandon, Matt and Morgan walk back to the interrogation
room.

                       BRANDON
Sanchez and I'll head down to the
school.

Alissa walks up.

                       ALISSA
I have some info for you guys on
your suspect.

Brandon, Morgan and Officer One stop to talk outside the
interrogation room. They peer through the two way way glass
at Kevin.

Kevin smiles as they look at him. He can be seen talking to
Charles through the window. They turn away to speak to one
another.

                       ALISSA
Kevin Conway, age 30. Born in
Denver, Colorado on August 8th
1981. Parents are Dillon and
            (MORE)

30.

                       ALISSA (cont'd)
Margret Conway.

Morgan grimaces; instantly realizing. Brandon scrunches his
lips; gives Morgan a puzzled look.

                       BRANDON
Why do those names sound so
familiar?

                       MORGAN
Because it was one of the most
high profile murder cases in
Denver in the past twenty years.

Brandon repeatedly snaps his fingers.

                       BRANDON
That was the murder-suicide ten
years ago right?

                       MORGAN
Actually it was fifteen. I worked
that case. I met Kevin when he was
just a boy.

                       BRANDON
I can see why he's a little off
his rocker.

                       MORGAN
      (melancholy)
He was so young.

                       BRANDON
What did his parents do?

                       ALISSA
Dillon Conway owned several
manufacturing plants throughout
Colorado. He was a
multimillionaire.

                       BRANDON
How much of that did Kevin get to
see?

                       ALISSA
Twenty eight million dollars.

Brandon and Morgan give Officer One a shocked look.

31.

                       BRANDON
You're telling me that psychopath
sitting in there is a
multimillionaire?

                       ALISSA
Yes, he's literally the wealthiest
man I have ever seen in person.

                       BRANDON
How old was he when his parents
died?

                       BRANDON
You mean when his father murdered
his Mother and then offed himself?

Morgan nods his head.

                       ALISSA
He was eight years old. He went to
a private boarding school. When he
was eighteen he got the home he
grew up in back and all his
inheritance.

                       BRANDON
Are you saying he still lives in
the same house his Father murdered
his Mother in?

                       ALISSA
That's what this paper says.

                       MORGAN
What's he been doing since then?

                       BRANDON
It's pretty obvious what he's been
up to.

                       ALISSA
No criminal record either.

                       BRANDON
Well, it's good to know he is such
an outstanding citizen.

                       MORGAN
Can I get a copy of everything you
got?

32.

                       ALISSA
Give me a couple of minutes and
I'll have it ready for you.

                       MORGAN
After you do that can you get me
the case files on his parent's
murder-suicide?

Alissa nods her head and quickly shuffles away. Brandon and
Morgan stare into the glass as Kevin stares right back at
them with a smile.

                       BRANDON
How fucked up is this guy?

                       MORGAN
I'll let you know as soon as I
find out.

INT. NASH LIVING ROOM/KITCHEN - DAY

CHRISTINE NASH, a thin, frail, 50 year old brunette that is
beginning to gray sits on the couch, blankly starring at the
TELEVISION with an empty, disconnected look.

A few feet away from Christine, a stand has a memorial to
AMY NASH, Roger and Christine's 8 year old daughter. A
pretty school picture of her. One final image frozen in
time.

ROGER NASH, a short, homely, with a kind and loving demeanor
in his 50s, fixes a tray of food. He grabs a prescription
bottle and counts out several pills.

He lifts the tray and walks it in the living room.

Christine's stare does not deviate, taking no notice of
Roger as enters the room. Roger places the tray of food in
front of Christine and sits next to her.

                       ROGER
Lunch is ready sweetie.

Christine gives him a half hearted smile.

                       CHRISTINE
Have you seen my sapphire
earrings--I can't find them
anywhere?

33.

                       ROGER
      (saddened)
Christine, you lost those earrings
years ago.

                       CHRISTINE
Oh.

                       ROGER
Do you want to go to a movie this
evening?

                       CHRISTINE
      (flatly)
No, I'm fine here.

Roger tries to hide his utter sadness behind his gentle
smile.

                       ROGER
He're your pills sweetheart.

Roger hands Christine a handful of pills. She takes them
with water.

ON TELEVISION

Courtney stands in front of the Denver Police Station.

                       COURTNEY (V.O.)
Good morning, I'm Courtney Connors
reporting live from the Denver
Police Headquarters on what is
becoming a very disturbing news
story.

Roger turns and looks at the TELEVISION.

                       COURTNEY (V.O.)
      (CONT'D)
Today, just an hour ago at around
7am, an eight year old girl who
has been identified as Jillian
Fletcher, was kidnapped from
outside of Columbine Elementary
School.

A picture of Jillian flashes on the corner of the screen.

34.

EXT. DENVER POLICE STATION - CONTINUOUS

                       COURTNEY
Columbine Grade School was put on
lock down after the incident. Just
a short time ago Channel Nine News
received a phone call from a man
who identified himself as Kevin
Conway. The man then confessed to
the kidnapping.

CAMERA PANS OUT, showing James standing next to Courtney,
uncomfortable.

                       COURTNEY
      (CONT'D)
We are now live with Captain James
Cavanaugh. Captain would you be
able to give us some more
information?

Courtney takes her microphone and puts it in front of James.

                       JAMES
Well, at approximately 7:16am we
received a call about a kidnapping
of a young girl from Columbine
Elementary School. We were able to
identify that girl as Jillian
Fletcher. If anyone has seen this
little girl or has any information
on her whereabouts please give us
a call.

                       COURTNEY
Is it true that the kidnapper
turned himself into police a short
time ago?

                       JAMES
We believe so, yes.

                       COURTNEY
Can you confirm the man in custody
is Kevin Conway?

                       JAMES
No, not at this time.

                       COURTNEY
Do you have any sense yet if
Jillian Fletcher is still alive?

35.

                       JAMES
We have every reason to believe
she is at this point.

                       COURTNEY
Is it true that the man who turned
himself in has also confessed to
several murders and is holding
Jillian as leverage to walk on
those murders?

James' expression subtly changes to anger.

                       JAMES
I cannot comment on that. Doing so
would be almost as irresponsible
as reporting it on the news.

James gives Courtney a condescending look. Courtney smiles
politely.

                       COURTNEY
We know you are very busy doing
your best to get this little girl
back home. Thank you for your time
Captain Cavanaugh.

                       JAMES
Thank you.

James storms away. Courtney looks back at the CAMERA.

                       COURTNEY
Again, if anyone has any
information on the whereabouts of
Jillian Fletcher we ask that you
please call DPD. We will have more
information for you as the story
breaks. Live from Denver, this is
Courtney Connors, Channel Nine
News.

                       DOUG
And cut.

Doug lowers his camera.

                       JAMES
I can't believe you asked about
him blackmailing us! You said if I
agreed to the interview you
wouldn't report that.

36.

                       COURTNEY
People have a right to know.

                       JAMES
This doesn't help that little
girl.

                       COURTNEY
Getting her face out on the news
doesn't help her?

                       JAMES
You lied to me! You just opened up
a shit storm.

                       COURTNEY
This has the potential to be the
biggest story of the year in
Denver and I'm out in front of it.
If I don't do the story then
someone else will.

INT. NASH LIVING ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Roger stares at the TELEVISION in a rage; his hands balled
together and legs trembling. Christine's eyes look empty and
sad as they continue to watch the television. Roger stands
up and paces the room.

                       CHRISTINE
Amy was that little girl's age.

Roger glances at the stand containing Amy's memorial. He
grabs a picture of her and looks back at Christine.

                       ROGER
I have to go.

Roger walks to the door and grabs a coat off the rack.

                       CHRISTINE
Have you seen my emerald earings?

                       ROGER
I'm sorry honey, I haven't.

Roger glances back at Christine one last time, then exits
the house.

37.

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY

Kevin and Charles are sitting in the room.

                       CHARLES
So what do you think is going to
happen if your plan works out? You
think you can just walk out of
here and go on to live a normal
life? There are going to be a lot
of people out there who want you
dead.

                       KEVIN
You just don't see the big picture
Charles.

                       CHARLES
      (shakes his head)
You have no idea what you have
gotten yourself into, do you?

                       KEVIN
I'm starting a revolution.

The interrogation room door opens and Morgan enters. He has
two cups of coffee, two candy bars, and a 90's style boom
box in hand. He puts the coffee and candy in front of Kevin.

                       CHARLES
      (sarcastically)
Thanks for bringing me one.

Morgan plugs the boom box and hits play. MOZART PLAYS
SOFTLY. Kevin closes his eyes for a brief moment and soaks
in the noise.

(MOZART PLAYS THROUGHOUT ENTIRE INTERROGATION)

                       MORGAN
You remember me don't you?

                       KEVIN
How could I forget?

                       MORGAN
I'm sorry about your parents, I
really am.

Kevin's eyes look Morgan up and down, evaluating his cheap
brown suit.

38.

                       KEVIN
That has to be the ugliest suit I
have ever seen in my life.

Charles lets out a loud, amused laugh. Morgan looks slightly
taken aback.

                       MORGAN
You're kinda strange aren't you?

Kevin grabs the coffee and drinks it. Morgan stares at him
in silence as he does.

                       KEVIN
To some I am.

                       MORGAN
Where are you keeping Jillian?

                       KEVIN
Well, I guess the small talk is
over.

                       MORGAN
Where is she?

                       KEVIN
Don't ask me stupid questions
Detective, you know I am not going
to tell you.

                       MORGAN
How was she when you left her?

                       KEVIN
Alive and unharmed. She is a
feisty young lady.

Morgan looks at a fresh scratch on Kevin's face.

                       MORGAN
Did you do anything to her
physically?

                       KEVIN
No Detective, she's not my type.

Morgan gives Kevin a cold stare.

                       MORGAN
You said it was seven people you
killed?

39.

                       KEVIN
Eleven.

                       MORGAN
Who were they?

                       KEVIN
Just people.

                       MORGAN
Where they children?

                       KEVIN
Despite what you think of me, I'm
not a monster. They were men
Detective, grown men. And they got
what they deserved.

                       MORGAN
What were their names?

Kevin looks in serious thought, trying to recall their
names.

                       KEVIN
      (slowly)
Rudolph, Dancer, Prancer, Donner,
Vixen.

Morgan slams his fist on the table.

                       MORGAN
This isn't funny!

                       KEVIN
Their names are of no consequence.

                       MORGAN
Why did you do it? Why did you
murder those men?

                       KEVIN
These men that I killed were
cancers on the world and the world
is better without them.

                       MORGAN
So you picked men you thought were
bad and deserved it?

                       KEVIN
And the world is a better place
because of it.

40.

                       MORGAN
Kevin, you went through something
I can't imagine--but that doesn't
give you the right to go around
killing people.

                       KEVIN
I'm not the bad guy here.

                       MORGAN
      (rolls his eyes)
Says the man who kidnapped a
little girl.

Kevin takes a deep breath. He leans in and looks intently at
Morgan.

                       KEVIN
I didn't kidnap her because my
morals are out of whack. I
kidnapped her because everyone
else's are.

                       MORGAN
So if you do something wrong, it's
others fault?

                       KEVIN
      (laughs)
I marvel that you can be so
contemtuous of me.

                       MORGAN
Explain to me why I shouldn't be.

                       KEVIN
These men I murdered were not
innocent victims. They were
abusers, users, alcoholics, con
men who destroyed their homes and
society.

                       MORGAN
Not everyone is your father,
Kevin.

                       KEVIN
Maybe if you had done your job my
Mother would still be alive.

                       MORGAN
That's not fair and you know it.

41.

                       KEVIN
      (insulted)
I can't believe you are taking
their side! I thought you'd get
it.

                       MORGAN
What about the people that loved
them? I'm sure many of them had
families.

                       KEVIN
You view these men's families as
having suffered, I view it as I
liberated them from their
tormentors.
(beat)
These were men who were in need of
more than a simple re-education in
the ways of polite society.

                       MORGAN
How'd you choose 'em?

                       KEVIN
Nothing I did was done lightly.

INT. MOVIE THEATER - NIGHT

FLASHBACK

Kevin stands in line at the ticket window; a handful of
people in front and behind him.

Behind him is a redneck couple in their late 20's; STEVEN, a
thin man wearing jeans and a flannel shirt, with a cheap
mustache and BRITTNEY, an attractive, submissive girl, who
is pregnant and has a black eye, poorly covered by makeup.

                       STEVEN
      (to Brittney)
You brought your money right?

                       BRITTNEY
      (timidly)
No honey, I didn't know.

                       STEVEN
You expect me to pay for your
stupid movie?

42.

                       BRITTNEY
I'm sorry.

                       STEVEN
Now I have to pay for the
movie--I'd leave you if you
weren't pregnant.

Kevin glances back at Steven in anger. It his turn to buy a
ticket.

                       KEVIN
One to Firestorm.

Kevin pays for his ticket and walks away.

INT. MOVIE THEATER LOBBY - MOMENTS LATER

Kevin stands off to the side, intently watching Steven and
Brittney in the concession line. Steven grabs one drink,
while Brittney grabs two popcorns, a hot dog, a drink, and
her purse.

Brittney follows Steven, struggling to carry the load. They
turn the corner; Kevin follows them into the movie theater.

INT. THEATER B - MOMENTS LATER

The MOVIE PLAYS in the half empty theater. Kevin sits three
rows behind Steven and Brittney, watching them instead of
the movie.

Steven stands up and struggles to get past Brittney to the
aisle.

                       STEVEN
Move your legs Brittney--you're as
big as a whale.

Steven shuffles past Brittney, marches up the aisle and out
the theater. Kevin follows.

INT. THEATER HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

Kevin exits the theater. He watches as Steven enters the
restroom.

43.

INT. THEATER RESTROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Steven pees at a urinal. Except for him, the room is vacant.
The door opens and Kevin enters. He casually meanders behind
Steven.

                       KEVIN
Good movie huh?

                       STEVEN
Do you wanna hold my dick fag?

                       KEVIN
I'm just waiting for you to get
done so I don't get any on me.

                       STEVEN
What the--

Kevin pulls a short piece of rope from his pocket and
squeezes it around Steven's neck. Steven's eyes pop out and
he violently struggles. Kevin drops them to the ground.

The life slowly sucked out of him till he is dead.

INT. THEATER HALLWAY - MOMENTS LATER

Kevin carries Steven's lifeless body through the hallway,
the way a man would help a drunk friend. No one takes
notice. He opens the door to the parking lot.

EXT. THEATER PARKING LOT - MOMENTS LATER

Kevin throws Steven's body in the back seat of the car and
closes the door. He calmly walks back towards the theater
with a satisfied smile.

INT. THEATER B - MOMENTS LATER

The MOVIE CONTINUES PLAYING. Kevin walks back to his seat.
He watches as Brittney waits for Steven.

INT. THEATER HALLWAY - LATER

Kevin stands next to the wall, watching all the patrons exit
the theater. Brittney meanders out, turning her head
nervously back and forth.

44.

                       BRITTNEY
Steven? Steven, where are you?

Kevin smirks proudly as he walks out the door to the parking
lot.

                                         END FLASHBACK

EXT. SCHOOL PARKING LOT - CONTINUOUS

Matt pulls the car into the school. There are parents coming
in and out like crazy picking up their kids. They exit the
car and head into the school.

                       MATT
I hate child kidnappings. There
aren't too many things harder to
deal with. I mean, who knows what
he did to her?

Brandon shakes his head in disgust.

                       BRANDON
Let's not think about that.

INT. COLUMBINE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - DAY

Brandon and Matt stand in front of Mike and Vivian Fletcher,
who are clearly upset.

                       VIVIAN
Have you heard anything about
Jillian? They announced on the
news you have a suspect.

                       BRANDON
Listen, we believe that Jillian's
alive and safe, but we don't have
much new to report.

Mike puts his arm around Vivian and squeezes her. Brandon
and Matt take in the sad vision of the worried parents. It
affects them.

                       VIVIAN
Oh, thank God.

                       MIKE
So you have the guy who kidnapped
Jillian--when are we getting her
back?

45.

                       BRANDON
It's complicated.

                       MIKE
What's complicated about getting
our daughter back alive?

                       MATT
I know how you feel--

                       MIKE
--You have no idea how we feel!

                       BRANDON
We're doing everything we can to
get her back.

                       MIKE
Jillian is not a bargaining chip.
If you aren't willing to do what
it takes to get her back, we are.

EXT. SCHOOL PARKING LOT - MOMENTS LATER

Brandon and Matt exit the school. The crowd of parents
picking up their kids has died down. As they are leaving,
Courtney and Doug walk in the school.

Courtney notices Brandon and Matt. She gracefully walks up
to them. Matt nervously shuffles. Both men are struck by her
beauty as she walks up to them in what seems like slow
motion.

                       COURTNEY
Hi Officers, any new breaks?

                       BRANDON
Nothing newsworthy.

                       COURTNEY
      (to Brandon)
We've met before, haven't we?

                       BRANDON
You could say that.

                       COURTNEY
      (remembering)
You were the lead detective on the
Amy Nash case.

46.

                       BRANDON
Police incompetence are the words
I believed you used.

                       COURTNEY
It was nothing personal.

                       BRANDON
Was to me.

                       COURTNEY
I'm about to interview the
parents. How are they?

                       BRANDON
How do you think they are?

                       COURTNEY
Well, it was nice chatting with
you, detectives.

Brandon and Matt head to the car as Courtney and Doug enter
the school. Matt looks awe struck.

                       MATT
You think she'd want a large
wedding?

                       BRANDON
What?

                       MATT
What do you mean what? I can't
believe we were just talking to
the Courtney Connors.

                       BRANDON
I'm not really that impressed.

                       MATT
Are you serious? She's a total
babe.

                       BRANDON
I like her sister better.

                       MATT
You have no taste.

                       BRANDON
I never said she wasn't
attractive.

47.

                       MATT
She's the hottest news reporter in
Denver.

Brandon and Matt reach their car. They slide in.

EXT. COLUMBINE ELEMENTARY - DAY

Courtney, microphone in hand, begins her interview with Mike
and Vivian.

                       COURTNEY
All our hearts go out to you two
at such a difficult time. I was
wondering if the police have given
you any updates?

                       MIKE
The only update they have given us
is that they are more worried
about covering their own asses
than bringing our little girl
home.

                       COURTNEY
Why do you say that?

                       MIKE
They have the man in custody
willing to give her back, but
instead they would risk her life
as a bargaining chip!

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY

Morgan and Kevin sit across from each other at the table.
Charles off to the side, intently watching.

                       MORGAN
So, tell me about your parents.

                       CHARLES
You don't have to answer that
Kevin.

                       KEVIN
No, it's ok.

Morgan gives Kevin a confused look.

48.

                       MORGAN
What is?

                       KEVIN
My Mom is the sweetest, most
beautiful woman in the world.

                       MORGAN
And your Dad?

Kevin shifts uncomfortably.

                       KEVIN
He's the piece of shit that
murdered my Mom and made my life
hell. He could have cared less
about us, all he cared about was
getting liquored up.

                       MORGAN
That sounds familiar.

                       KEVIN
Why is that Detective?

                       MORGAN
I've lived through that myself.

                       KEVIN
Is this where you try to gain my
trust by telling me that you had
an abusive alcoholic father too?

                       MORGAN
No, not exactly.

                       KEVIN
      (angrily)
Are you going to tell me about the
beatings, the insults, about how
you lived in fear? Spare me.

                       MORGAN
That's not what I was going to
tell you at all.

                       KEVIN
Then what?

                       MORGAN
I wasn't the child scared of the
alcoholic father. My parents
almost never drank.
(long beat)

49.

                       MORGAN (cont'd)
I was the alcoholic father who
terrorized my family.

Morgan pulls out his Alcoholics Anonymous chip and throws it
on the table. Kevin picks it up and curiously looks at it.

                       MORGAN
      (CONT'D)
When I first joined the force it
was just occasionally going out
with the guys. But then I got
married, had kids and became a
Detective. I couldn't handle it.

                       KEVIN
Couldn't handle what?

                       MORGAN
Seeing death and evil every day.
Seeing cases like your parents.

                       KEVIN
I'm not evil.

                       MORGAN
All the depravity I saw everyday
and all the drinking I did to numb
myself to it ruined me. I started
to not care about my children and
became cruel to my wife. Things
just kept getting worse.

                       KEVIN
I feel sorry for your family.

                       MORGAN
I was the exact type of person you
were killing.

                       KEVIN
Yes, you are.

                       MORGAN
Two and a half years ago my wife
took the kids and left me. They
moved to Phoenix--I haven't been
close with them since.

                       KEVIN
Sounds like you got what you
deserved.

50.

                       MORGAN
You're right, I did. That's why
two years ago I got help and
stopped drinking. I haven't spoken
to my kids in two years.

EXT. FRONT OF DENVER POLICE STATION - DAY

A dozen people protesting, dressed in warm clothing, stand
outside the station. Two large wooden barricades separate
them from the building.

Two Police Officers stand on the other side of the
barricade, attempting to keep order. The protesters are
yelling about Kevin Conway.

The door opens and Corey pokes her head out. She surveys the
carousing rowdies, worried.

                       ROGER
Killers and kidnappers must pay!

Roger holds up a picture of his daughter Amy.

INT. JAMES CAVANAUGH'S OFFICE - DAY

James' hand squeezes a phone tight to his ear.

                       JAMES
I think this is a bad idea Mayor
West.
(beat)
I understand there is a little
girl out there, but cutting a deal
with this guy is a very bad idea
sir. He's a serial killer. He
won't stop.

Corey enters. She stands there awkwardly as she waits for
James to get off the phone.

                       JAMES
      (CONT'D)
Well hopefully we will find her
before it comes to that. I will
relay the urgency of the situation
to my detectives.

James hangs the phone up. He lets out a frustrated sigh,
then looks up at Corey.

51.

                       JAMES
      (CONT'D)
What can I do for you Officer
Blakeman?

                       COREY
Sir, this kidnapping case is
getting out of control. We've had
six different people call and make
death threats against Kevin Conway
if we let him walk out of here.

                       JAMES
God damn it.

                       COREY
He'll be dead before he makes it a
hundred feet and we will have one
hell of a messy murder trial to
deal with.

                       JAMES
The last thing in the world we
need is someone shooting Kevin
Conway outside our station.

                       COREY
There's a small mob outside. We
have two Officers out there just
to keep them under control.

                       JAMES
      (angrily)
I told that reporter this would
happen.

                       COREY
Someone's going to get hurt if we
don't do something.

                       JAMES
I'm doing the best I can here.

                       COREY
I know sir. I just wanted to let
you know what's going on.

                       JAMES
Call and see if you can get a few
extra officers to come in. Tell
them not to worry about overtime.

52.

INT. BRANDON AND MATT'S CAR - DAY

The car cruises hilly streets, estates line each side.

Brandon and Matt pull their car into the driveway of Kevin's
mansion. It is stately, with a pedicured front lawn.

Grand decorated hedges lead to the front steps. The property
is very rich and massive.

                       MATT
Sweet digs.

                       BRANDON
Yeah, it's amazing that he can
afford this on a crazy person's
salary.

EXT. KEVIN'S DRIVEWAY - CONTINUOUS

The car crawls to a stop.

They get out and dash up a garden pathway, past a three car
garage. Their eyes peer up, seemingly intimidated by the
house.

                       BRANDON
      (CONT'D)
I can't believe he still lives in
the same house that his parents
died.

                       MATT
Yeah, it's pretty fucking creepy.

They reach the front door. Matt turns the door knob. It is
locked.

                       MATT
How do you wanna do this?

                       BRANDON
Are you kidding? I love kicking
down doors. Why do you think I do
karate classes twice a month?

The door opens and a middle aged Hispanic woman, CONSUELA,
answers. She is holding a tray of snacks.

                       CONSUELA
Hello.

53.

Brandon and Matt give each other a confused look. They turn
back to Consuela.

                       BRANDON
We're here to execute a search
warrant.

                       CONSUELA
Oh yes, Mr. Conway told me to have
the place spotless for your
arrival.

Brandon and Matt cringe.

                       CONSUELA
      (CONT'D)
Mr. Conway asked me to prepare
some snacks as well.

Consuela lifts the tray of snacks and presents them. Brandon
takes a couple of the snacks, about to eat them. Matt grabs
his hand and stops him.

                       MATT
Are you really about to eat food
that a known serial killer has
specially prepared for you?

Brandon turns to Matt, then regards the food grimly. He puts
it back on the tray. Consuela looks confused.

                       BRANDON
On second thought, I'm going to
have to pass.

                       MATT
Do you know why we are here?

                       CONSUELA
No. All I know is you coming and
to make you at home.

                       MATT
Mr. Conway kidnapped a little girl
this morning.

Consuela's eyes rise. She puts her hand on her chest, taken
aback.

                       CONSUELA
Oh my lord.

54.

                       MATT
Did you see him bring anyone back
here?

                       CONSUELA
No, he left here this morning and
hasn't been back since.

                       BRANDON
When?

                       CONSUELA
About 6AM--that's when I came.

                       MATT
If Mr. Conway were to keep
something hidden in the house that
he didn't want seen, where would
he keep it?

                       CONSUELA
In the basement. It's locked and
he's the only one with a key.

INT. KEVIN'S HOUSE - MOMENTS LATER

Brandon and Matt go through a gigantic, elegantly decorated
library. Eccentric artwork abounds.

                       MATT
The Denver library has nothing on
this guy.

                       BRANDON
If you don't know high society,
you don't get the pleasure of
avoiding it.

                       MATT
Basement's this way.

Brandon and Matt hurry towards the door that leads to the
basement. Past a cavernous fireplace. Matt shakes the knob;
it's locked. Brandon smiles.

                       BRANDON
I got this.

Brandon repeatedly kicks the door till it comes down.
Brandon flips the light on.

55.

INT. KEVIN'S BASEMENT - CONTINUOUS

Brandon and Matt march down the stairs. They are horrified
by what they see.

The walls are completely covered in bizarre drawings of his
murder victims, postmortem; seemingly random newspaper
clippings.

                       MATT
Holy shit.

                       BRANDON
Wow, this guy's quite the
decorater.

                       MATT
No kidding.

The two men look over the intensely violent images in
wonder.

                       BRANDON
He's not a bad artist.

Matt looks at him as if he has lost his mind.

                       MATT
You're kidding right?

                       BRANDON
These drawings are gonna be worth
some serious money someday.

                       MATT
No way.

                       BRANDON
In prison John Wayne Gacy painted
pictures of demented clowns--those
are worth thousands.

                       MATT
Unbelievable.

                       BRANDON
Ten dollars says he wears his dead
Grandmother's underwear.

                       MATT
You are sicker than he is.

56.

Brandon intently focuses on the drawings, almost admiring
them.

                       BRANDON
I wonder what he did with them?

                       MATT
We have a confession on the
murders--I'm more concerned on
finding Jillian.

                       BRANDON
Agreed.

Brandon and Matt continue picking apart the basement.

                       MATT
Hey look, I wonder what's on that
thing?

Matt points to the projector and Brandon looks.

                       BRANDON
I doubt it's High School Musical
Two in there.

THE PROJECTOR SCREEN

comes to life. A home video of CHILD KEVIN'S tenth birthday
party, filmed at the house. A slightly overcast Spring day
out. NO SOUND.

                       BRANDON (O.S.)
Wow, Dillon Conway looks like a
real peach.

A butler carries a birthday cake with lit sparklers.
Children follow the cake, in dresses and suits, surrounding
a very disinterested Child Kevin.

Child Kevin and Dillon are both dressed in suits. Child
Kevin's Dad has a stern look on his face the whole time. He
is either drinking or has a cigar in his mouth in every
scene he is in.

All the other children are running around having fun. Child
Kevin looks very sad. People are serving food to the
birthday guests.

                       MATT
It's the kid's birthday party and
everyone's having fun but Kevin.

57.

                       BRANDON
That's really sad.

They stand there watching the video for a few more seconds.

                       MATT
I'm gonna check upstairs.

INT. KEVIN'S STAIRWELL - MOMENTS LATER

Matt ambles up the red carpeted stairs. There is a creepy,
unpleasant feeling to it as he heads to the bedroom where
the murder-suicide took place.

Flashbacks of the murder suicide. Dillon and Willow's bloody
carcasses pop in and out. Matt curiously walks around the
room.

Matt picks up a faded, framed photo. Willow leans in kissing
Dillon on the cheek. A haunting photo of a happier time.

INT. KEVIN'S BASEMENT - MOMENTS LATER

Brandon continues to look. He halts, noticing...

A photo of Courtney Connors on the wall. Brandon inspects it
with a methodical, practiced eye.

                       BRANDON
Someone's got a fan.

Brandon reaches a dresser and goes through it. He sees a
bunch of notebooks and opens one up. He starts reading.

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
I walk around the city, I watch
the news, and I see evil deeds
being done all around me. Men like
my father run rampant through the
city, able to hurt whoever they
want with total impunity. Will the
police stop them? No, no they
wont. They just wait till someone
gets hurt before they lift a
finger. They do nothing but clean
up the mess of shattered lives
left behind. I can no longer sit
idly by and allow what happened to
me to happen to others. I take it
into my own hands now.

58.

INT. SULLIVAN'S STEAKHOUSE - NIGHT

FLASHBACK

1950s STYLE MUSIC IS PLAYS

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
      (narrating)
Tonight I committed my eleventh
murder. They seem to get easier
and easier every time. I met this
one at Sullivan's Steakhouse.

The classic black and white decorated Steakhouse is packed
and hopping. Everyone is dressed formally, in swanky
outfits. Tuxedo-clad waiters serve the patrons.

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
      (CONT'D)
I was there drinking my Ginger Ale
and eating some of those
delightful little French fries
that they have, the ones covered
in Parmesan cheese.

Kevin sits at a table by himself, nibbling on a basket of
fries. He lifts his glass, taking a drink.

A middle aged man in a business suit walks in and goes
straight to the bar. The man, SCOTT, is heavyset and in his
40s, wearing a suit, but sloppily put on.

Kevin watches him over the rim of his raised glass.

Scott sits down at the end of the bar and orders a drink.
Kevin stands up and takes a seat next to him.

Kevin lets out a frustrated GRUNT.

                       SCOTT
Rough day?

                       KEVIN
Yeah.

                       SCOTT
Why's that?

                       KEVIN
Wife and kids are driving me up a
wall.

Scott turns and gives him an understanding look.

59.

                       SCOTT
You too huh?

                       KEVIN
What did yours do?

                       SCOTT
My wife is just such a bitch.
She'll just nag me till my ears
bleed.

Kevin extends his hand.

                       KEVIN
Name's Kevin.

                       SCOTT
Scott.

Scott shakes his hand.

                       KEVIN
Women, inevitably the source of
all my frustration.

                       SCOTT
Last month we got into an
argument--I slapped her around a
little. She had the nerve to call
the cops and send me to jail.

                       KEVIN
What a bitch.

                       SCOTT
I mean, who does she think she
is--she'd be living on the streets
without me.

INT. SULLIVAN'S STEAKHOUSE - LATER

Scott gets up and stumbles to the bathroom. Kevin reaches in
his pocket, pulls out a pill and puts it in Scott's drink.
The pill dissolves, fizzling as it does.

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
We talked the next couple of
hours. Whatever doubt I had about
what I was planning, he quickly
eliminated. What a scumbag this
man was.

60.

EXT. THE STREET - NIGHT

Kevin and Scott pop out the front of Sullivan's. Scott's arm
around Kevin, can barely stand, stumbling, disoriented.
Kevin leads them to his car.

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
When the night was over I offered
to drive him home.

INT. KEVIN'S CAR - NIGHT

Kevin drives, Scott in the passenger seat. Kevin has the
MUSIC PLAYING and smokes a cigarette. He looks at a semi
conscious Scott and smirks.

The car pulls into Kevin's driveway.

                       KEVIN
Ok, we're home.

Scott stupidly smiles back at Kevin. Kevin gets out and
walks over to the passenger side door and opens it.

                       SCOTT
Thanks for the ride home--you're a
swell guy.

                       KEVIN
      (devilishly)
Don't mention it.

EXT. KEVIN'S DRIVEWAY - CONTINUOUS

Kevin helps Scott out and leads him up to the front door.

INT. KEVIN'S LIVING ROOM/BATHROOM - CONTINUOUS

Kevin caries Scott in, arm draped over his shoulder. Scott
hangs on to consciousness by a thread.

Kevin takes him through the living room and into the
bathroom, placing him in the bathtub.

                       KEVIN
I'll be right back.

Kevin heads back to the living room and turns on his STEREO.
CLASSICAL MUSIC comes to life. His arms move as if
conducting an orchestra.

61.

Kevin glides to the kitchen and grabs a butcher knife, then
back in the bathroom whistling. He walks up to Scott in the
tub and savagely slits his throat.

Kevin exhales a deep, satisfied sigh. Blood now splattered
on his clothes. He sits on the toilet and lights a
cigarette.

He moves his hands along to the music. Scott makes sick
GURGLING noises, dying.

INT. KEVIN'S BATHROOM - LATER

Scott's bloody corpse lay dead in Kevin's bathtub; his eyes
open, face mangled in fear.

Kevin relaxes on a wooden chair, sketch pad resting on his
lap. A charcoal pencil glides across a sturdy piece of
Fabriano paper, creating a portrait of Scott's lifeless
corpse. The drawing is vivid and of excellent quality.

EXT. KEVIN'S BACKYARD - LATER

Kevin digs a hole in the backyard. The night is dark and
quiet, except for the sounds of Kevin digging. There appears
to be several other graves around.

He takes the plastic wrapped body, and rolls it in the hole.

                       KEVIN
      (at Scott)
I gotta get you buried before the
snow tomorrow.

Kevin picks up the shovel and begins to bury Scott's body.
He hears a NOISE from the neighbor's house.

                       NEIGHBOR (O.S.)
Hey, what's going on over there?

Kevin looks up, startled. The NEIGHBOR, is a 50 something,
heavyset man in his pajamas. He stands there, starring at
Kevin, squinting.

                       KEVIN
Mind your own business.

                       NEIGHBOR
Oh, my God! Are you burying a
body?

62.

Kevin pauses, his eyes looking nervously from side to side.

                       KEVIN
      (awkwardly)
No.

                       NEIGHBOR
Well, what're you doing?

                       KEVIN
Just some gardening.

                       NEIGHBOR
Why are you gardening in the
middle of the night?

                       KEVIN
You know I'm not really a morning
person.

                       NEIGHBOR
Oh.

                       KEVIN
You wanna come over and look?

Neighbor smiles unconvincingly at Kevin, perturbed.

                       NEIGHBOR
No thanks,
(beat)
I gotta go.

The Neighbor runs into his house. Kevin stands frozen,
staring at the Neighbor's house, frustrated.

                       KEVIN
Fuck!

A CAR SCREECHES out of the Neighbor's driveway.

INT. KEVIN'S BASEMENT - DAY

Matt steps down the basement stairs. He sees Brandon reading
through the notebook.

                       MATT
What do you got there?

63.

                       BRANDON
Just reading through Kevin's
journal--you'll never believe who
he has a crush on.

                       MATT
Are you kidding me?

                       BRANDON
No, this is some pretty sick shit.

                       MATT
This whole house just feels like
death.

                       BRANDON
We need to get CSI over here. The
entire house is a crime scene.

EXT. KEVIN'S NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE - DAY

Brandon and Matt walk up to the front door. Matt RINGS
DOORBELL and KNOCKS ON THE DOOR.

                       MATT
Police, open the door!

They wait several seconds. No answer.

                       BRANDON
I don't think anyone's home.

Matt walks around the side and looks in a window.

                       MATT
Should we go in?

Brandon smiles.

INT. KEVIN'S NEIGHBOR'S BASEMENT - MOMENTS LATER

They sneak in the house through a window well into the
basement. They draw their guns.

They walk through the house, clearing one room at a time. No
one is home. Matt finds some mail on the counter. Matt picks
up his cell phone.

                       BRANDON
This is the only house with a view
of Kevin's backyard.

64.

Matt dials a number and gets on his phone.

                       MATT
I need an APB out on a missing
person.

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY

Morgan, Kevin and Charles are where we left them. Kevin,
with a sketch pad in front of him, draws the figure of a
dead man.

                       MORGAN
What did Jillian do to deserve to
be kidnapped Kevin?

                       KEVIN
Nothing.
(beat)
She was just a means to an end.

                       MORGAN
You're no better than the men you
claim to hate.

                       KEVIN
You guys wont let anything happen
to her. The sooner you make the
deal, the sooner she gets back
home. Her life will be
immeasurably better because of
what I'm doing.

The door opens and James enters. Morgan, Charles, and Kevin
turn and look.

                       JAMES
Detective Clayborn, may I have a
word with you outside?

                       CHARLES
Uh oh, someone's going to the
principal's office.

Morgan glares at Kevin. He gets up out of the chair. Kevin
turns around and gives Charles a snarky smile. Morgan closes
the door behind him.

65.

INT. OUTSIDE INTERROGATION ROOM - CONTINUOUS

                       MORGAN
Yes Captain.

                       JAMES
I just got off the phone with the
Mayor. Look Morgan, we have a
media circus on our hands now. CNN
has picked up the story. All the
top brass is getting a ton of
heat.

                       MORGAN
This is our mess--we created this
monster!

                       JAMES
That's enough!

                       MORGAN
There's not enough soap in
Colorado to scrub the blood off
our hands.

                       JAMES
If you got off your high hoarse
long enough to see how the real
world works, you'd be where I am
instead of working the same
detective job the past twenty
years.

                       MORGAN
Maybe if I had stayed on that
hoarse my concious would be clear.

Morgan turns and looks at Kevin through the glass, then back
at James.

INT. BRANDON AND MATT'S CAR - DAY

Matt drives; Brandon rides shotguns. The snow comes down
heavy. Sparse traffic surrounds them. They speed along past
strip malls and gas stations.

                       RADIO DISPATCH (V.O.)
Sanchez, Bradley over.

Brandon picks up the walkie.

66.

                       BRANDON
This is Bradley, over.

                       RADIO DISPATCH (V.O.)
We have a location on your missing
van. 1428 Colfax, behind the Drive
and Save, over.

                       BRANDON
We're on our way, over.

Matt flips the car around and hits the lights. Other cars
get out of the way as they turn.

EXT. THE DRIVE AND SAVE PARKING LOT - DAY

Brandon and Matt's car pulls into The Drive and Save parking
lot. A squad car is already there with two officers standing
guard, ready to meet them.

Brandon and Matt get out of their car and walk towards the
van. HEAVYSET OFFICER and Todd keep watch over it.

                       TODD
We waited for you guys to get here
to search it.

                       BRANDON
Tell me that you at least checked
to make sure the girl isn't in
there?

Brandon walks up to the window, peeks in.

                       TODD
Wow, blow me Bradley.

                       BRANDON
I could arrest you for
solicitation.

                       MATT
Thank you officers.

                       TODD
      (smirking)
You're welcome.

Brandon opens the drivers door. Matt slides open the side
door to the van. Brandon looks up, suddenly shocked.

67.

                       BRANDON
Awe, shit.

Matt looks up at the Channel Nine News van pulling into the
parking lot.

                       MATT
How did they get here so fast?

                       BRANDON
Police scanner.

The news van pulls up close. Courtney and Doug get out.
Courtney tries to walk up next to the van, but Officer Three
intercepts Courtney, blocking her way.

                       TODD
Sorry Ma'am, this is an official
crime scene.

Courtney ignores Todd, looking right past him towards the
van and Brandon and Matt.

                       COURTNEY
Detectives!

Brandon and Matt both look up.

                       COURTNEY
      (CONT'D)
Is this Kevin Conway's van?

                       BRANDON
Can't say.

                       COURTNEY
Have you found anything?

                       BRANDON
No, but we just got here.

                       MATT
I'm sure if we do, you'll be the
first to report it.

                       COURTNEY
      (smiling)
Either one of you feel like doing
an interview?

                       MATT
We're busy trying to save a
child's life.

68.

                       COURTNEY
Good work Detectives.

Brandon and Matt continue to scour the van. Doug walks up to
Courtney with his camera.

                       DOUG
Get ready to go live in four
minutes.

INT. KEVIN CONWAY'S VAN - CONTINUOUS

The inside of the van is a complete mess. Paper and trash
are littered throughout. Matt picks up a bumble bee hair
clip.

                       MATT
Look, I bet it's Jillian's.

                       BRANDON
Hold onto it.

They continue combing through the van. Brandon looks through
papers and receipts. Matt picks up rope and duct tape, eyes
it over.

Something catches Brandon's eye.

                       BRANDON
      (CONT'D)
Look, I found something.

He holds up a receipt. Matt grabs the receipt and looks at
it.

                       MATT
This is from a gas station. The
time and date on it is after the
kidnapping!

                       BRANDON
That means she is close by there.

                       MATT
Let's go.

Courtney starts a news cast several feet away.

                       COURTNEY
This is Courtney Connors with
Channel Nine Breaking News. Police
have found the van belonging to
the person they believe kidnapped

young Jillian Fletcher from
Columbine Grade School.

Brandon and Matt can be seen in the background leaving the
van and jogging to their cars.

EXT. FLASHBACK DENVER PRISON - DAY

High stone walls topped with snaky razor wire. A guard tower
keeps a watchful eye.

Kevin's blue van pulls in the parking lot

EXT. DENVER PRISON - MOMENTS LATER

Kevin leans against a brick wall. He has an intent look on
his face, starring at the front door of the jail house where
inmates get released.

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
I was bored today and decided to
head to the prison to see if any
scum were being released.

A man, CURTIS, walks out the front door carrying a bag of
his personal belongings. He is in his early 30s, thin and
looks scraggly and disheveled. He looks towards Kevin.

                       KEVIN (V.O.)
      (cont'd)
Looks like it was my lucky day.

A cigarette smolders in Kevin's mouth. Curtis sees that and
immediately walks in Kevin's direction. Kevin takes a deep
drag of his cigarette and blows the smoke out.

                       CURTIS
Hey man, do you have one of those
I could bum?

Kevin reaches back in his pocket, pulls out his smokes and
opens the pack. A devilish smile on his face.

                       KEVIN
Sure.

Curtis reaches in the pack and pulls a cigarette out. Kevin
hands him a lighter. Curtis lights the cigarette and takes a
deep drag.

70.

                       CURTIS
      (relieved)
Oh man, it's been six years since
I have had one of these.

                       KEVIN
That's a long time.

                       CURTIS
Yeah.

                       KEVIN
I'm Kevin.

Kevin extends his hand; Curtis shakes it.

                       CURTIS
I'm Curtis.

Curtis smokes his cigarette while Kevin stares at him.

                       KEVIN
So, what were you in for?

Curtis looks at Kevin suspiciously.

                       KEVIN
      (CONT'D)
Awe come on, you can tell me.
(beat)
I'm waiting for my brother who's
in there for Grand Theft Auto.

Curtis takes another drag; he looks at Kevin cautiously.

                       CURTIS
I was in for second degree sexual
assault.

                       KEVIN
Wow.

                       CURTIS
      (defensively)
It's not what you think. I was at
a party and this girl wanted to go
back with me to my room. She was a
drunk slut. Halfway through making
out she passes out on me. I
figured we were going to have sex
anyway.

71.

                       KEVIN
      (sympathetically)
That's so unfair you were sent to
jail for that.

                       CURTIS
I didn't rape her--if she had
stayed awake she would have had
sex with me anyway.

                       KEVIN
You got a bum deal if you ask me.

                       CURTIS
Yeah, I guess so.

Kevin casually puts his arm around Curtis.

                       KEVIN
Let me buy you a beer.

                       CURTIS
What about your brother?

                       KEVIN
Awe, he's an asshole anyway.

EXT. KEVIN'S BACKYARD - NIGHT

Kevin, shovel in hand, digs a grave. It is pitch black
except for a small amount of moonlight. Kevin's clothes are
an abstract painting of dirt and blood.

Curtis's dead body lay next to Kevin. His facial expression
frozen in fear. The body is partially covered in a blue
tarp. Kevin looks curiously around the backyard.

                       KEVIN
      (comically)
I'm going to run out of space to
burry bodies soon.

Kevin wipes sweat off his forehead. He bends down and rolls
Curtis's body into the grave. Kevin takes a deep breath. He
grabs the shovel and begins to bury Curtis.

                                         END FLASHBACK

72.

INT. BRANDON AND MATT'S CAR - DAY

Brandon and Matt drive around, Brandon's face buried in
Kevin's journal. Piles of snow line the sides of the
streets. Traffic is sparse because of the extreme weather.

Matt turns and looks at Brandon, who is now down and
despondent. This concerns Matt.

                       MATT
Getting down on yourself isn't
going to do her any good.

Brandon snaps out of it and turns to Matt.

                       BRANDON
What?

                       MATT
Jillian--getting down on yourself
isn't going to help find her.

                       BRANDON
No, it's not that.

                       MATT
Well, what is it?

                       BRANDON
Do you remember the Amy Nash case?

                       MATT
No--why?

                       BRANDON
It was my first six months as a
detective--Amy Nash went missing
on her way to school. She was just
eleven.

                       MATT
I remember that now. They found
her three days later at Philmore
Park.

                       BRANDON
Raped and murdered. DNA evidence
led us to the killer. The guy was
a total piece of shit, registered
sex offender.
(beat)
The worst part was the parents.
They were the nicest people. Her
mother Christine had a nervous

breakdown. It was like the dad
lost his daughter and wife both.

Matt shakes his head, attempting to clear it of the gruesome
image.

                       MATT
That's terrible.
(beat)
But what does that have to do with
Jillian?

                       BRANDON
It doesn't--it's my daughter
Angela. I'm just scared to raise
her in a world as depraved as
this.

Matt gazes in the rear view mirror.

                       MATT
Look who's following us?

Brandon glances; Courtney's van trails closely behind.

                       BRANDON
We so need to lose them.

Matt hits the gas and takes an icy corner hard. The van
speeds to catch up.

EXT. HILLY ROAD - DAY

Matt now blasts the car down a winding road, next to a pond.
The van struggles to keep up.

The van catches a patch of black ice and spins off the road,
CRASHING IN THE POND.

INT. SQUAD CAR - DAY

Brandon and Matt ogle the crash, wide-eyed.

                       MATT
Holy shit!

Matt slams on the breaks. The two detectives bolt out the
car.

74.

EXT. HILLY ROAD - DAY

Courtney and Doug struggle to exit the rapidly sinking van.

Brandon and Matt dive in the water and dash for the two.

They struggle to get them out, but are able to. Matt grabs
Courtney, Brandon grabs Doug. They pull the two shaken
Channel Nine News members to shore.

The four rest on shore, breathing heavy. Courtney and Doug
are both shook up.

                       MATT
You guys alright?

                       COURTNEY
You two are assholes!

INT. SQUAD CAR - DAY

Brandon and Matt are back in their car.

                       BRANDON
I don't think they'll cut him a
deal.

                       MATT
What do you mean?

                       BRANDON
They have something up their
sleeves. They're not just going to
let a murderer walk.

                       MATT
What can they do?

                       BRANDON
Come on, think Matt--where would
you hide a girl if you were Kevin?

Matt's face lights up.

                       MATT
      (points at place)
A storage place would be perfect.

Brandon turns, following Matt's finger to a Self Storage
lot.

75.

EXT. STORAGE LOT - CONTINUOUS

The car pulls into the parking lot. Brandon and Matt get out
and hurry inside.

INT. STORAGE LOT - CONTINUOUS

They go to the front desk. An old man there by himself,
CLERK, greets them. Brandon and Matt pull out their badges.

                       CLERK
Oh, I swear Officer's, nothing
illegal here!

Brandon pulls out a photo from his pocket and holds it up
for Clerk to see.

                       BRANDON
I was wondering if you have seen
this man.

Clerk leans in, looks at the photo intently.

                       CLERK
Yes, he a client here. What did he
do?

EXT. STORAGE LOT - MOMENTS LATER

Brandon and Matt jog to the locker. Snow is piled up
everywhere. Brandon takes the key and puts it in the lock.

The locker door swings open. It is empty, except for a
single piece of paper. Brandon and Matt walk inside. Brandon
picks up the paper.

PAPER IN BRANDON'S HAND

                       BRANDON
Dear Officers, I am glad you are
here and reading this letter. That
means the clues I left you were
good enough to follow. That also
means that you are no closer to
finding Jillian. By now she won't
have much time left. Make the deal
officers. Sincerely, Kevin.

                       MATT
Fucking bastard!

76.

Brandon takes the note and crumples it up and throws it on
the ground. Brandon and Matt walk through the heavy snow
back to their car. Somber.

Brandon's PHONE RINGS. He answers.

                       BRANDON
Captain.
(beat)
God damn it! Please don't do this
Captain.
(beat)
We just need a little more time.
(beat)
Yes sir.

Brandon hangs up the phone. He looks over at Matt, who is
giving him a questioning look.

                       MATT
What?

                       BRANDON
      (heartbroken)
It's over.

Brandon closes his eyes, defeated.

EXT. FRONT OF DENVER POLICE STATION - DAY

Three dozen Protesters stand outside the snow covered
barricades, yelling about Kevin Conway. There are now four
Police Officers trying to keep order.

Doug stands with camera ready to shoot. Courtney is in front
of him holding her microphone. They are in the thick of it.

                       COURTNEY
Hello, I'm Courtney Connors. We
are here at the Denver Police
Station where protesters have
gathered in response to Kevin
Conway, who earlier today
kidnapped a young girl outside
Columbine Elementary.

The front door to the station opens and Corey walks out. She
holds a piece of paper. She walks to a podium.

                       COREY
Good afternoon everybody. I want
to first start by saying that our
Department is doing everything in
our power to locate Jillian
Fletcher and bring her home
safely.

The Protesters yell.

                       COREY
      (CONT'D)
To the people out here--we
understand your frustration. I am
here to ask you people to kindly
go home or you will be arrested.
Your being here is taking up
Officers and resources that is
desperately needed elsewhere. We
will release any updates as soon
as we can. Thank you and have a
nice day.

Corey walks away from the podium and back in the station.
The crowd of Protesters begin to disperse.

                       COURTNEY
The Denver Police have asked the
Protesters to leave and it looks
like many are. However, we have no
further updates on the whereabouts
of Jillian Fletcher.

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY

Kevin, Morgan and Charles are all in the room.

                       MORGAN
So what do you expect to do
exactly, if you get this grand
deal that you want?

                       KEVIN
I've always wanted to go to Disney
World--go on that Pirates of the
Carribean ride.

78.

                       MORGAN
You're a serial killer and
everyone who owns a television or
reads a newspaper will know your
face. There'll be a lot of people
who want you dead.

Kevin relaxes back and gives Morgan a cocky smirk.

                       CHARLES
Don't threaten my client!

                       KEVIN
Maybe you're right.

The door opens. James and District Attorney TOM JONES enter.
Jones is a grayed haired, serious, wearing an expensive
suit, spit shined shoes.

Morgan immediately becomes disgusted.

                       JAMES
Mr. Conway, I'm Captain Cavanaugh
and this is District Attorney Tom
Jones.

Kevin gazes at James.

                       KEVIN
I know you. Promoted to Captain,
huh?

                       JAMES
You're no better than your father.

                       KEVIN
And you're going to let me go and
kill, just like you let him.

He reaches his hand out to shake theirs but both men coldly
ignore the attempt.

                       JAMES
Tell us where you have Jillian
Fletcher.

                       CHARLES
My client's not answering that
question until he has signed the
deal he asked for.

Kevin sits there, his arms folded across his chest, with a
grin on his face. He stares at Tom Jones defiantly.

79.

                       JONES
In return for Jillian Fletcher's
safe return, you will be given
full immunity for the murders you
confess to today.

                       CHARLES
Don't forget about the kidnapping
charges.

                       KEVIN
The kidnapping is included as
well?

Jones and James give each other disappointed looks.

                       JONES
This deal requires total and
complete honesty. That means that
if you leave anything out, we will
come back and fuck you as hard as
we can.

                       KEVIN
Where's the paper to sign?

Jones puts papers on the table and pushes them towards
Kevin. He opens them, looking them over. Charles stands over
him, examining the papers as well.

                       CHARLES
This looks good to me.

                       KEVIN
Excellent.

Kevin takes one last look at the sketch he has been working
on. It is of Charles, bloody and dead in the interrogation
room.

Kevin leaps out of his chair, pen in hand, and violently
punctures Charles' neck.

                       MORGAN
      (frantically)
What are you doing?

Morgan, James and Jones quickly pull Kevin off James, but
it's too late. Charles lies dead in a bloody mess.

EXT. STORAGE LOCKER PARKING LOT - DAY

Brandon and Matt are sitting in their car in the parking
lot. They are both visibly distraught.

                       MATT
Think of the good news. If they
are making that deal with him
right now, that means that Jillian
is alive and that we are getting
her back.

                       BRANDON
I bet Kevin wont make it a month
before someone shoots or stabs
him.

Brandon's PHONE RINGS. Matt and Brandon give each other
anxious looks. Brandon answers it.

                       BRANDON
      (CONT'D)
Bradley.
(beat)
Ok, write this down Matt. 1437
Elwood Drive.

Matt takes out a pen and paper and writes.

                       BRANDON
Wait, what?
(beat)
You gotta be shitting me!
(beat)
Ok we're on our way.

Brandon hangs up the phone.

                       MATT
What?

Brandon has a childlike smirk.

                       BRANDON
You wont believe where he hid her.

EXT. COURTNEY CONNOR'S HOUSE - EVENING

Brandon and Matt pull their car up to Courtney Connor's
house. It is a new, upper-middle class home in a cookie
cutter neighborhood. They get out.

81.

                       MATT
Not too shabby.

                       BRANDON
She's in the attic.

They get to the door. Brandon turns the knob and it's
locked.

                       BRANDON
      (CONT'D)
Ooh, Courtney's not going to be
happy with us.

INT. COURTNEY CONNOR'S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

GLASS BREAKS. A hand comes through the door and opens it.
Brandon and Matt have their guns drawn. They check the rooms
as they enter. They make their way up the stairs.

INT. COURTNEY CONNOR'S ATTIC - CONTINUOUS

Brandon pulls down the latch to the attic. They climb up and
see Jillian tied to a chair, her mouth taped. A TELEVISION
PLAYS CARTOONS. They both run up to her.

                       BRANDON
It's ok Jillian, you are safe now.

Matt pulls the tape off Jillian's mouth; she takes a deep
breath.

                       JILLIAN
Where am I?

                       MATT
We're the police Jillian. We're
taking you home.

                       BRANDON
Are you hurt?

                       JILLIAN
No, I'm ok. He's not here is he?

                       BRANDON
No we have him locked up.

                       MATT
We're going to get you home to
your family.

82.

They finish untying her. She stands.

                       JILLIAN
I have never needed to use the
bathroom so bad in my life.

Matt pulls the hair clip out of his pocket and hands it to
Jillian.

                       MATT
I believe this is yours.

Jillian grabs the hair clip and smiles.

                       JILLIAN
Thank you.

Brandon picks up a piece of paper on the ground. He looks at
it, wide eyed, his mouth open, flabbergasted.

                       MATT
What is that?

                       BRANDON
It's a check for one million
dollars to Jillian.

                       JILLIAN
      (excited)
A million dollars?

INT. COURTNEY AND DOUG'S CAR - MOMENTS LATER

Courtney and Doug, both banged up and bandaged, pull up to
Courtney's. Matt and Brandon have just spotted them.

                       COURTNEY
What the fuck are we doing at my
house?

                       DOUG
I don't know, but we are about to
find out.

EXT. COURTNEY CONNOR'S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Brandon and Matt amble towards Courtney and Doug.

                       COURTNEY
What's going on? Why the hell are
you at my house?

83.

                       MATT
We got something to tell you and
we want you to promise not to
freak out?

                       COURTNEY
What? What is it? Just tell me.

                       BRANDON
We couldn't find Jillian in time
so we had to cut a deal with
Conway.

                       COURTNEY
      (confused)
You didn't have to come all the
way to my house just to tell me
that.

                       MATT
Kevin hid Jillian at your house.

Courtney stumbles back and puts her hand over her mouth.

                       COURTNEY
Oh my God, that sick bastard was
in my home?

                       BRANDON
Calm down ok, he's in custody.

                       COURTNEY
Calm down? A serial killer was in
my house!

                       BRANDON
      (smirking)
Apparently he was a very big fan
of yours.

                       COURTNEY
That's comforting to know.

                       BRANDON
He had a framed picture of you in
his basement.

A look of realization crosses Courtney's face.

                       COURTNEY
What picture?

84.

                       BRANDON
It was you standing next to a
horse. You were a lot younger but
I still recognized you.

                       COURTNEY
My house was broken into this
weekend. The only thing that was
taken was that picture.

Brandon looks at Matt and smiles.

                       BRANDON
We just closed a B and E
case--we're on a roll!

                       COURTNEY
      (freaking out)
You guys cut a deal with him so
he's free right? He knows where I
live!

                       MATT
We have him in custody, you don't
have to worry.

Courtney shakes her head in trepidation. Suddenly her
demeanor changes.

                       COURTNEY
Have you notified any media about
this yet?

                       MATT
No, we decided to tell you first
since it's your house.

                       COURTNEY
Quick, Doug get the camera set up.

                       DOUG
On it.

                       COURTNEY
Are either one of you willing to
be interviewed?

                       BRANDON
Sorry, Captain's orders.

                       COURTNEY
I understand. Thank you
Detectives.

85.

Courtney pulls out her phone and dials a number.

                       COURTNEY
      (CONT'D)
Larry, yes the police found the
kidnapped girl.
(beat)
She was at my house.

Courtney walks away, continuing to talk.

                       MATT
Well that worked out well.

EXT. COURTNEY CONNOR'S HOUSE - MOMENTS LATER

Courtney stands in front of her house with a forced, awkward
smile. She holds a microphone.

                       COURTNEY
Police have just rescued eight
year old Jillian Fletcher, the
young girl who was kidnapped this
morning from Columbine Elementary
School. In what has been a tale of
one strange twist after another
the police discovered Jillian
hidden at my house--

Brandon and Matt talk several feet away from the newscast.

                       BRANDON
Why don't you just go and ask for
her number? I'm pretty sure she's
single.

                       MATT
You gotta be kidding me, right?

                       BRANDON
Why wouldn't you? You probably
won't get another chance.

                       MATT
There's no way she'd say yes.

                       BRANDON
So?

                       MATT
What do you mean so?

86.

                       BRANDON
Take your shot. You obviously have
a huge thing for her. The worst
that can happen is she says no.

                       MATT
She could report it on the news.

                       BRANDON
      (chuckling)
You're scared.

Matt throws his hands in the air.

                       MATT
Ok, fine. I'll do it. I'll ask her
for her number.

                       BRANDON
Well good for you.

Brandon pats Matt on the back.

                       MATT
      (sternly)
Yeah, but if she turns me down I
don't want to hear a peep out of
you.

                       BRANDON
Not a word, I promise.

Brandon puts his finger to his pressed lips, makes a zipping
motion.

                       MATT
What do you think my odds are?

                       BRANDON
Oh look, she's signing off now.

Brandon points towards Courtney.

                       COURTNEY
Live from Cherry Creek, this is
Courtney Connors, Channel Nine
News.

                       DOUG
And cut.

                       COURTNEY
Ok, let's get the hell outta here.

87.

                       DOUG
Agreed.

Courtney and Doug begin to walk back to their news van.

                       BRANDON
Go get her.

Matt nervously attempts to smooth out his shirt as she walks
towards her. Courtney, by the car, removes her microphone.

                       MATT
Crazy day, huh?

                       COURTNEY
Craziest one I've had in a while.

                       MATT
You doing ok?

                       COURTNEY
Yeah, I just need to get out of
here and take a hot shower.

                       MATT
You have a place to stay?

                       COURTNEY
Yeah, I'll be fine I'm going to
stay at my girlfriend's house
tonight.

                       DOUG
Okay Courtney, we're ready to
roll.

                       COURTNEY
Anyway, it was very nice meeting
you detective.

Courtney smiles at Matt. Her and Doug both open the doors
and get in the news van.

                       MATT
Wait!

                       COURTNEY
Yeah?

Courtney looks up at him.

88.

                       MATT
I was wondering if I could take
you out for coffee sometime?

Courtney smiles, flattered.

                       COURTNEY
Are you asking me out on a date
Detective?

Matt scratches the back of his neck.

                       MATT
      (nervously)
Yeah.

INT. PSYCHIATRIC CELL - NIGHT

KEVIN'S EYES

are tired and slightly red. He has a knowing, victorious
smile.

All his Murder Victims casually stand around him.

Kevin is sitting Indian style in a calming blue padded cell,
wearing a straight jacket. Charles nervously stands behind
him, still wearing his suit.

A 1970s style rotary phone with all the cords intentionally
removed sits in front of him. The PHONE RINGS. Kevin turns
his head and looks pleadingly at Charles.

                       KEVIN
Can I get a little help with that?

Charles picks up the receiver and places it against Kevin's
ear.

                       KEVIN
      (CONT'D)
Hello?

                       WILLOW (V.O.)
Kevin, my sweet baby boy!

                       KEVIN
      (joyfully)
Hey Mom, I'm so glad you called.

89.

                       WILLOW (V.O.)
      (concerned)
How have they been treating you?
No one's hurt you have they?

                       KEVIN
No Mom, I'm going to be getting
out of here soon--I signed a deal.

                       WILLOW (V.O.)
Oh Kevin, that's fantastic!
(beat)
I know a lot of people don't
understand what you did, but I do.
You made the world a better place.

                       KEVIN
I'm glad you understand Mom. I'm
not going to let what happen to us
happen to anyone else.

                       WILLOW (V.O.)
I am so very, very proud of you
Kevin.

Kevin blushes.

INT. JAIL CELL - EVENING

Roger sits on a bench, along with six of the other
protesters, with his head buried in his hands. Corey walks
up to the cell and unlocks the door.

                       COREY
Ok guys, the Captain has decided
to release you.

Roger and the other protesters stand up; Corey opens up the
door and they all walk out.

                       ROGER
What's happened to Kevin Conway?

                       COREY
      (solemnly)
We got the girl back.

                       ROGER
They cut a deal?

Corey flatly nods her head. Roger looks devastated.

INT. FLATIRONS MALL - DAY

Brandon and Gwyneth push their daughter, Angela, through the
mall. Brandon is dressed casually. Gwyneth is wearing a
striking dress, with her hair and makeup done.

                       GWYNETH
You're kidding me!

                       BRANDON
No, I'm totally serious. Matt
walked right up to Courtney
Connors and asked for her number.

                       GWYNETH
And she said yes?

                       BRANDON
He texted me a little bit ago.
They are having coffee as we
speak.

                       GWYNETH
Well good for him.

                       BRANDON
I know, lucky bastard.

Gwyneth gives Brandon a dirty look. He responds with a coy
smile.

                       BRANDON
      (CONT'D)
I'm just kidding honey.

Brandon leans in and gives her a kiss on the cheek.

                       GWYNETH
So is Morgan still coming over
later?

                       BRANDON
He said he would.

                       GWYNETH
He finally gets to see Angela.

Brandon's PHONE RINGS.

                       BRANDON
Speak of the devil.

Brandon answers the phone.

                       BRANDON
      (CONT'D)
Morgan, what's going on?

INTER-CUT WITH...

EXT. KEVIN'S BACKYARD - CONTINUOUS

Morgan stands in Kevin's backyard. The whole backyard is dug
up; creating an ugly mess of dirt and snow. Several blue
tarps are visible.

                       MORGAN
I'm at Conway's house.

                       BRANDON (V.O.)
It's nice, isn't it?

                       MORGAN
Well, we've dug up the entire
backyard.

INT. FLATIRONS MALL - CONTINUOUS

                       BRANDON
      (on phone)
Ok, I'll meet you there.

Brandon hangs up the phone.

                       GWYNETH
What was that about?

                       BRANDON
We've got to go.

INT. NASH'S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Christine is on the couch watching TELEVISION, with her
usual blank stare. The door opens and Roger walks in.

                       CHRISTINE
      (sadly)
Honey, I lost my sapphire
earrings--I don't know where they
are.

                       ROGER
I know, we'll find them.
(beat)
I'm going to be out late
            (MORE)

92.

                       ROGER (cont'd)
tonight--don't wait up for me.

                       CHRISTINE
Ok Roger.

Roger gets up and walks to the front door. He turns back and
looks at Christine.

                       ROGER
I love you, Christine.

                       CHRISTINE
I love you too, Roger.

Roger walks out of the house.

EXT. PARKING LOT OF PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL - NIGHT

Headlights sweep across the front of the daunting building.

Brandon pulls his car into the parking lot. He gets out and
walks towards the front door. The area is dark, dimly lit
and it is drizzling snow. Icicles dangle precariously from
the gutters of the building.

Morgan and Matt stand at the front door waiting for him as
he approaches.

                       BRANDON
Sounds like you've had a fun day
off.

                       MORGAN
Yeah, I had to tie this case up.
It didn't exactly turn out that
way.

Brandon walks up to and them; shutters at the deepening
cold. He slaps Matt on the back.

                       BRANDON
Actually I was talking about
Sanchez here. He had a hot date
today. Did you make out with her?

Morgan gets an interested look.

                       MORGAN
Hot date huh?

Brandon looks questioningly at Matt.

93.

                       BRANDON
You didn't tell him?

INT. PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL - CONTINUOUS

Morgan opens the front door; Matt, Brandon and Morgan walk
inside. The inside is large, with egg white paint. Colorful
murals don the curved walls of the empty reception area.

                       MATT
It was just coffee.

Brandon looks slyly at Morgan.

                       BRANDON
Our little Sanchez here went on a
coffee date with Channel Nine's
own Courtney Connors.

                       MORGAN
You're shitting me!

                       MATT
      (confidently)
No, it's true.

                       MORGAN
Well good for you Matt.

                       BRANDON
      (at Matt)
You're welcome by the way.

The three men reach an elevator. The building has been void
of people so far, except a janitor moping the floor in the
background. Morgan pushes the button.

                       BRANDON
So there were no bodies at all?

                       MORGAN
They dug up every inch of his
backyard and came up with nothing.

The ELEVATOR RINGS and the door opens; Matt, Morgan and
Brandon walk inside. Morgan pushes a button and the door
closes.

                       BRANDON
Shit.

94.

                       MORGAN
CSI went through his home, there
is no evidence that Kevin Conway
killed anyone.

                       MATT
What about the journals?

                       MORGAN
We looked at the dates and
names--they did not match up with
any missing person reports.

                       MATT
So you're saying that he really
didn't murder anyone?

                       MORGAN
It appears that way.

INT. PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL-KEVIN'S FLOOR - CONTINUOUS

They walked up to the high security ward. There is a
SECRETARY sitting at the front desk there. Morgan and
Brandon both pull out their badges.

                       SECRETARY
Hello.

                       MORGAN
I'm detective Clayborn, these are
Detectives Bradley and Sanchez,
we're here to speak to Dr.
Richards.

                       SECRETARY
Sure thing, officers.

She picks up the phone and dials.

                       SECRETARY
      (CONT'D)
Dr. Richards, the police are here
to see you.

She hangs up the phone.

                       SECRETARY
      (CONT'D)
She'll be out in two seconds.

95.

A woman, DR. RICHARDS, walks out of the office, mid 30s,
well dressed and wearing glasses. An, intelligent, confident
demeanor.

                       DR. RICHARDS
Hello, I'm Dr. Jeanie Richards.

Dr. Richards motions them to follow her. They walk down the
ward's hallway, an endless stretch of white tile. The ward
is very clean and sterile, yet bleak and depressing.

                       DR. RICHARDS
      (cont'd)
He's been here less than twenty
four hours and I can honestly say
that Kevin is one of the most
fascinating patients that I have
seen.

                       MORGAN
Why's that?

                       DR. RICHARDS
It took us less than two hours to
come up with a diagnosis of
paranoid schizophrenia.

                       MORGAN
What gave it away?

                       DR. RICHARDS
He complained about one of our
staff members named Darla stealing
his stuff.

                       BRANDON
And she wasn't?

                       DR. RICHARDS
We don't have a staff member named
Darla.

                       BRANDON
Oh.

                       MORGAN
Have you ever seen hallucinations
like the ones he has?

                       DR. RICHARDS
No, but everyone's are a little
different. The ones he has make
sense given his history. They
represent his inability to cope
            (MORE)

96.

                       DR. RICHARDS (cont'd)
with the forces in the world that
he percieves as threatening.

They pass several padded doors.

INT. KEVIN'S CELL - CONTINUOUS

Kevin sits Indian Style, LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY. All his
Murder Victims stand around, looking on.

                       BRANDON (V.O.)
What do you mean?

                       DR. RICHARDS (V.O.)
Obviously he had a lot of
resentment towards his Father. He
projected his Father into
manifestations of his subconscious
and then would take his anger out
by killing them.

                       MATT (V.O.)
That's disturbing on so many
levels.

                       MORGAN (V.O.)
So, he kidnapped Jillian, who was
a real person because an imaginary
person he created in his mind saw
him burying another imaginary
person he thought he had murdered.
Then called his imaginary lawyer
and turned himself in.

                       KEVIN
I got you. I got you all!

INT. PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

They continue towards Kevin's cell.

                       DR. RICHARDS
Very well said Detective. His
hallucinations are like dreams
walking through his waking life.

                       MORGAN
That's pretty elaborate.

97.

                       DR. RICHARDS
Delusions can be.

Brandon looks at Matt and smiles.

                       BRANDON
You're new girlfriend has a lot of
explaining to do on her reporting.

                       MATT
Yeah, she's screwed.

                       DR. RICHARDS
I do not believe that Kevin is
actually a murderer, but unless
you guys get any physical
evidence, you have to assume that
anything he confesses to is just a
delusion.

Morgan takes a deep breath and shakes his head.

                       MORGAN
I feel like an idiot for not
seeing this.

Dr. Richards stops in front of a room. The three guys stop
next to her.

                       DR. RICHARDS
He's right in there if you're
ready to see to him.

                       MORGAN
Thank you, Doctor.

                       DR. RICHARDS
I'll be right outside if you need
anything.

INT. KEVIN'S PSYCHIATRIC CELL - CONTINUOUS

Brandon, Matt and Morgan open the door and walk in. Kevin
sits there in a straight jacket. Charles stands next to him.

                       KEVIN
Detectives, long time no see.

                       BRANDON
We missed you, too.

98.

                       KEVIN
I appreciate the visit. Come on
in--make yourselves comfortable.

Matt closes the door behind them.

                       MORGAN
We're here because we have
something to tell you.

                       KEVIN
I'm all ears.

                       MORGAN
You're not a murderer, Kevin.

                       KEVIN
Well I'm glad you guys have
finally come around to seeing
things my way.

Kevin turns and looks at Charles.

                       KEVIN
      (CONT'D)
See Charles, what did I tell you?

                       MORGAN
We dug up your backyard, there
were no dead bodies.

                       KEVIN
      (to Charles)
What are they talking about?

                       BRANDON
Kevin, Charles isn't real--there
is no one there.

                       CHARLES
Thanks, asshole.

                       KEVIN
So you're in on the conspiracy
too.

                       MORGAN
      (gently)
There's no conspiracy. You have a
mental illness. You're sick.

99.

                       KEVIN
You're just upset that I got away
with murder and embarrassed you in
front of the whole world while
doing it. The public is not going
to fall for your little game.

                       BRANDON
Look, we're just here to tell you
that you are being indefinitely
committed until the doctors feel
you are safe to leave.

                       CHARLES
      (yelling)
This is outrageous!

Kevin looks betrayed, angry.

                       KEVIN
You can't do that! That wasn't
part of our deal. I have a signed
legal document.

                       CHARLES
We'll have your badges for this!

                       BRANDON
Do you have any idea how crazy you
are?

Kevin looks questioningly at Charles.

                       CHARLES
Don't listen to them Kevin. They
are just playing a game with you.
I will be able to take care of
this, you know that.

                       KEVIN
I know Charles. You've always
taken care of me.

                       BRANDON
See that Kevin--you're talking to
no one.

BRANDON'S POV

Kevin turns and looks back at the Detectives. Charles is no
longer there.

100.

                       KEVIN
Detectives, Charles is the best
lawyer in the state of Colorado.
He will have me out of here within
the week. You will not take this
away from me. People will be
inspired by me and follow my
example.

INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

Brandon, Matt and Morgan exit the room. Morgan has a solemn
look on his face. They continue walking down the hallway;
passing a janitor (Roger) as they go.

Brandon and Roger exchange a brief look of recognition as
they pass.

                       BRANDON
This whole thing was just a
disaster.

Morgan pulls out his cell phone and walks away from the
group.

                       BRANDON
Where you going?

                       MORGAN
I'm calling my kids.

Dr. Richards walks up to them.

                       DR. RICHARDS
How did it go?

                       BRANDON
Not well, Kevin is sitting in
there convinced he is the most
clever serial killer the world has
ever seen.

                       MATT
I kinda feel sorry for him.

SERIES OF SHOTS

Kevin is sitting at the bar by himself, with two drinks in
front of him talking to himself.

Kevin is outside the jail. He hands a cigarette to thin air
and it drops to the ground. He starts talking to himself.

101.

Kevin is in his backyard, digging a hole. An empty blue tarp
is next to him.

                       DR. RICHARDS (V.O.)
The nightmare with schizophrenia
is not knowing what's true.
Imagine, if you had suddenly
learned that the people, places
and moments that define your
reality were not gone, not dead,
but had never been.

BACK TO SCENE

THREE LOUD GUNSHOTS

Morgan, Brandon, Matt and Dr. Richard all turn their heads
back to Kevin's room, shocked. They run back and open the
door. Kevin lays dead on the ground, covered in blood.

Roger, wearing a janitors uniform, kneels on the ground with
his hands behind his head and a gun next to him. The four of
them stare at Roger in shock.

Kevin's Murder Victims look on in shock.

FADE OUT.

Reads all too familiar, didn't get past the first couple of pages, when you make promises in the synopsis, keep them, especially in the first scene, you said it had a good hook, you gotta hook right from the beginning, in fact if I'm not hooked in the first scene I move on. John, please don't praise your work in the screenplay, if you do then you set yourself up for hyper-criticism, but that's what rewrites are for right? I would suggest one in this case.
