THE GOLDEN AGE
|
INT. SCENE 1 - DAY |
|
Julian is cleaning in the house, while his stepsister and
stepmother are joking about him, making crude remarks about
his appearance and about his fall into slavery. |
|
|
CAMILLE
(Snotty, kind of
annoying, as if
she were an
obnoxious rich
person.)
Look at him. It's like I'm housing
garbage. He barely knows how to
clean the floor properly. |
|
|
|
MARIE
(In the same
manner as
Camille.)
I agree mother. Why did we take
him in, anyway?
(Turns to Julian)
Why can't you be more like us? Oh
wait, no brains!
(Laughing) |
|
|
|
CAMILLE
Stop being so unkind. He needs to
focus on his work. |
|
|
|
|
Exit Marie and Camille. The Golden Age begins playing. |
|
|
JULIAN
(Gets up, looks
out a window)
Are they gone? Finally
(Sighs in releif)
I don't know how I'm going to
survive another day with them.
(Singing)
Walking through the fields of gold
In the distance, bombs can fall
Boy we're running free
Facing light in the flow
And in the cherry trees
We're hiding from the world
But the golden age is over

JULIAN (cont'd)
But the golden age is over
Boy, we're dancing through the
snow
Waters freeze, the wind blows
Did you ever feel
We're falling as we grow
No I would not believe
The light could ever go
But the golden age is over
But the golden age is over
Listen, I can hear the call
As I'm walking through the door
Did you ever dream
We'd miss the mornings in the sun
The playgrounds in the streets
The bliss of slumberland
Boy, we are family
No matter what they say
But boys are meant to flee
And run away one day
When golden age is over
When the golden age is over
But the golden age is over
The golden age is over |

|
Enter Marcel |
|
|
MARCEL
Boy, we've got to get you help. |
|
|
|
JULIAN
(Surprised)
Marcel! How are you? |
|
|
Play Run, Boy, Run |
|
|
MARCEL
I seem to be better than you are.
I'll give you some advice your dad
gave me.
(Singing)
Run boy run! This world is not
made for you
Run boy run! They're trying to
catch you
Run boy run! Running is a victory
Run boy run! Beauty lays behind
the hills

|
MARCEL (cont'd)
Run boy run! The sun will be
guiding you
Run boy run! They're dying to stop
you
Run boy run! This race is a
prophecy
Run boy run! Break out from
society
Tomorrow is another day
And you won't have to hide away
You'll be a man, boy!
But for now it's time to run, it's
time to run!
Run boy run! This ride is a
journey to
Run boy run! The secret inside of
you
Run boy run! This race is a
prophecy
Run boy run! And disappear in the
trees
Tomorrow is another day
And you won't have to hide away
You'll be a man, boy!
But for now it's time to run, it's
time to run!
Tomorrow is another day
And when the night fades away
You'll be a man, boy!
But for now it's time to run, it's
time to run!
(Return to normal
dialouge)
Do you get it now boy? |
|
|
|
JULIAN
I think so... But I think this is
crazy. |
|
|
|
MARCEL
Why do you think that? |
|
|
|
JULIAN
Because, this whole running thing
sounds bad. |
|
|
4.
|
|
MARCEL
(Fatherly)
A lot of things do, but they get
better with time. |
|
|
Play song The Great Escape. |
|
|
MARCEL
And another thing. Your father
told me to bust you out if I saw
fit. |
|
|
|
|
|
MARCEL
That's the honest to God truth
right there, boy. |
|
|
|
JULIAN
Well what are we going to do? |
|
|
|
MARCEL
We're going to run. |
|
|
|
JULIAN
I can agree with that. |
|
|
|
MARCEL
(Singing)
Tell me that we'll always be
together
We'll be riding horses all the way
Cause boy I feel that men are
meant to be
More than the shadows of each
other
This road is finally standing up
to the sky
Boy we're free, so what is fate to
say
How things are gonna turn out now?
If storms are breaking over great
escapes
Boy, we'll find how to make it
with the rain
This rage will lead us through the
burning plains
No matter what they say, we're
heroes, boy we'll get to break out
Now we're finally standing up to

the sky
Look at me, boy, what is fate to
say
How things are gonna turn out now?
Can't you see that we're dead
until we wake up
All your dreams are about to
happen now
We are racing to the break of dawn |
|
|
|
JULIAN
I think I get it now! |
|
|
|
MARCEL
That's the spirit! |
|
|
|
JULIAN
And we're out of here! |
|
|
Exit Marcel and Julian |
|
|
INT. SCENE 2 - NIGHT |
|
Enter Adele. She is a pretty young girl who wants to escape
her over protective parents and experience something new.
She runs onto the stage, and runs straight into a wall that
blocks her path from escape. She turns and runs towards the
audience and is panting. |
|
|
ADELE
(Over her panting)
Oh, what's a girl to do?! They're
coming! |
|
|
Enter Marcel and Julian. They look tired and see Adele at
the front of the stage. |
|
|
JULIAN
(Pointing)
Marcel, look. She looks like she's
in trouble. |
|
|
|
MARCEL
We may need to help her. |
|
|
Marcel and Julian walk over to Adele. |
|
|
JULIAN
Excuse me, miss, but do you need
help? |
|
|
6.
|
|
ADELE
(Annoyed)
Who are you? |
|
|
|
JULIAN
I'm Julian, and this is Marcel.
Again, do you need help? |
|
|
|
ADELE
(Suspiciously)
Depends on who you are helping. |
|
|
|
|
|
ADELE
I want to know if my father sent
you. |
|
|
|
JULIAN
Since I've never seen you before,
it's safe to say that your father
didn't send me. |
|
|
|
ADELE
I still don't trust you, but I
need help, so I guess you'll
suffice. |
|
|
|
JULIAN
What do you need us to do? |
|
|
|
ADELE
(Grabs Julian by
the collar of his
shirt)
I need you to get me out of here. |
|
|
|
JULIAN
All right, let's go! |
|
|
Adele, Julian, and Marcel exit as King Bordeaux enters the
stage. |
|
|
KING BORDEAUX
(Annoyed)
Where is she?! I need to find her.
If my Adele is missing, I don't
know what I'll do! |
|
|
Reenter Julian, Adele, and Marcel from behind Bordeaux |
|
7.
|
|
ADELE
(Scared)
Oh no! It's my father! |
|
|
|
MARCEL
(Surprised)
Your father is the king?! Why
didn't you tell us? |
|
|
|
ADELE
I didn't know about you, you
didn't need to know about me. |
|
|
|
JULIAN
Well, the factor of you being a
princess would help us in figuring
out how to help you. |
|
|
|
ADELE
I'm sorry, I didn't think he'd
find me so fast. |
|
|
|
MARCEL
Still, you could have told us. |
|
|
|
ADELE
I don't even know who you are. The
only reason I'm going with you is
so I can be safer. You two look
like good fighters. |
|
|
|
JULIAN
Well, I don't think that either
Marcel or I are armed for fighting
the King's Royal Guard. |
|
|
|
ADELE
You don't have swords? |
|
|
|
JULIAN
Not a one to our names. We're just
travelers. |
|
|
|
MARCEL
And we also told you who we were.
We're escaped slaves. We have no
weapons. |
|
|
|
ADELE
Well normally, an escapee has some
sort of weapon to defend himself. |
|
|
8.
|
|
|
Bordeaux turns around. |
|
|
KING BORDEAUX
(Shouting)
Who's there?! I heard you. |
|
|
Bordeaux strides over to the group's hiding spot, and sees
Adele. |
|
|
KING BORDEAUX
Adele, who are these men? Why are
they here? |
|
|
|
JULIAN
(Worried)
We're travelers, Your Highness. We
stumbled upon your daughter when
we were passing through the town.
We didn't know she was the
princess. |
|
|
|
ADELE
(Quietly, through
gritted teeth)
What are you doing?! |
|
|
|
JULIAN
(Same as Adele)
Saving mine and Marcel's skins.
(Returning to
normal speaking
voice)
She convinced us she was a
pauper's daughter. We had no idea,
Your Excellency, that she was your
daughter. |
|
|
|
KING BORDEAUX
I see. Well, seeing as you kept
her safe, and I found her after
she tricked you, I will let you
go. But be warned, my daughter is
slippery. She's bound to escape
again. |
|
|
Boat Song begins. Marcel and Julian exit. Change set to the
castle. |
|
9.
|
|
ADELE
That idiot!
(Singing)
We packed our bags and said
farewell
Untied the knot and raised the
sail
We threw our hearts into the sea
Forgot all of our memories
The wind was sweet and smelled of
home
The sea was rough and felt unknown
Escaping shores of lunacy
Dawn light, twilight, infinitiy
Can we keep our baring straight
Or will we be blown off course
Are we instruments of fate?
Do we really have a choice?
A voice whispers in the gales
Like in the songs and childhood
tales
Where krakens raging in the sea
Crack ships into a million pieces
Can we keep our baring straight?
Or will we be blown off course?
Are we instruments of fate?
Do we really have a choice?
We threw our hearts into the sea
Forgot all of our memories
(Return)
I'll never forgive him! |
|
|
|
INT. SCENE 3 - NIGHT |
|
Enter Julian, alone, on a beach. He seems annoyed. |
|
|
JULIAN
I don't get it! Why do I feel like
this?! It's not like I care about
what happens to her, I could care
less! I'm free now! I can feel
what I want. But why do I feel
like this? Why her? |
|
|
Begin I Love You |
|
10.
|
|
JULIAN
I don't know what I'm feeling.
(Singing)
Where the light shivers offshore
Through the tides of oceans
We are shining in the rising sun
As we are floating in the blue
I am softly watching you
Oh boy your eyes betray what burns
inside you
Whatever I feel for you
You only seem to care about you
Is there any chance you could see
me too?
Cause I love you
Is there anything I could do
Just to get some attention from
you?
In the waves I've lost every trace
of you
Where are you?
After all I drifted ashore
Through the streams of oceans
Whispers wasted in the sand
As we were dancing in the blue
I was synchronized with you
But now the sound of love is out
of tune
Whatever I feel for you
You only seem to care about you
Is there any chance you could see
me too?
Cause I love you
Is there anything I could do
Just to get some attention from
you?
In the waves I've lost every trace
of you
Where are you? |
|
|
Enter The Peddler |
|
|
PEDDLER
Boy, you seem down. What seems to
be the matter? |
|
|
|
JULIAN
I don't know what to do. |
|
|
11.
|
|
|
|
JULIAN
There's this girl... |
|
|
|
PEDDLER
I see. Love, is it? |
|
|
|
JULIAN
I don't know what it is. I think
it's love, but I'm not so sure. I
think she hates me. |
|
|
|
PEDDLER
Well, I can fix that. |
|
|
|
|
|
PEDDLER
I need a little trickle of blood
from you, to call the Ghost
Lights. |
|
|
|
|
Play The Shore |
|
|
PEDDLER
Tell me what you want. |
|
|
|
JULIAN
(Sung)
I walked all day along the shore
I was made for loving you
I drown my pain in alcohol
How could you feel the same way
too?
My feet will not walk anymore
So I guess you ought to know the
truth
I wonder what I am made for
If I'm not meant to be with you
I wish you were here on the shore
That we could build up something
new
I wonder why I am so sure
Nothing's stronger than me and you
Now I'm leaning on the stage door
(MORE)

|
|
JULIAN (cont'd)
As I'm writing these words for you
You don't remember anymore
The kisses that I stole from you
I spend my days without you now
And the sky doesn't look that blue
Cause every day I love you more
How could you feel the same way
too?
My life is full of wine and gold
But it's not worth it without you
Just like my bed my heart is cold
Now you know I've always loved you |
|
|
|
PEDDLER
That gives me some light on the
situation. |
|
|
Play Ghost Lights, enter dancers. |
|
|
PEDDLER
Let me wind up my magic.
(Sung)
Waking up in a world surrounded by
flames
Where everything I liked is about
to fade
How could you be the one if you're
not the same
If in the hands of gods you have
lost your way
How ever fast I dance to make the
sun shine
I will never fall down
No matter what it takes, I'll try
to save the ghost lights
How ever hard I pray to remake you
mine
I will never feel down
No matter what it takes, I'll try
to save the ghost lights
Waking up in the fog, the dust and
the pain
And of the sunny days, no traces
remain
How could you be the one if you
sail away
Without you I can't stand the
sound of the rain

Dancers exit. |
|
|
PEDDLER
The magic is ready. All you need
to do is make your wish. |
|
|
Julian closes his eyes and seems to be making a wish. The
Peddler waves his hands and mutters some gibberish to cast
the spell that will grant Julian's wish. Julian passes out. |
|
|
PEDDLER
And you are mine now, boy. |
|
|
|
INT. SCENE 4 - MORNING |
|
Enter Bordeaux to the beach. He blames Marcel for the
disappearance of his daughter. Marcel and Bordeaux do not
exchange words, and Bordeaux tosses a sword to Marcel.
Marcel picks up the sword, and they duel. Marcel loses and
dies. |
|
|
MARCEL

In the glorious days, till we lost
our ways,
Hey, do you recall when the war
was just a game?
Now the wind ventures to other
plains,
Hey, when will I see you again if

This train whistles and blows all
sounds away,
Hey, how could we be close again? |
|
|
|
JULIAN
(Wakes up)
Marcel! No, Marcel.
(Crying)
Wake up! Wake up!
(Sung)
Now the night is bathing in
disgrace,
Hey, do you still braid some
flowers in your hair,
Come the sound of boots and metal
chains,
Hey, will the perfume of the
daisies remain?
A circus of horses is dancing in
the bay,
Hey, now the fire's in the way
The past is sucked by quicksands
I'm afraid,
Hey, do you recall when the war
was just a game? |
|
|
|
JULIAN
By Marcel's Blood, I swear, that
King Bordeaux will die! I will
kill him! |

Exuent |

INT. SCENE 5 - DAY |
|
Sitting in the bench after Bordeaux takes her back. She is
depressed. Play Where I Live. |
|
|
ADELE
(Sung)
I've never seen the Northern
Lights,
I've never seen the snow
I never walked across the ice
I ignore the ocean's flow
Where I'm born is where I'll die
Where I live is where I cry
My children left on a cold night

Like rabbits blinded by the light
Kids want a better place to grow
Where I'm born is where I'll die
At night I shiver and I try
To forget that I never cheated
That I tried to be strong
No matter how wise I was, I feel
wrong
To forget that I never followed
That man that I adored
Who promised me pretty sins and
gold
And I'm waiting for the sun
And I'm waiting for the sun
I will never be out of sight
I'll never feel the snow
I'll never reach the truth of lies
I'm just watching my flowers grow
Where I'm born is where I'll die
At night I can't sleep when I try
To forget that I never cheated
That I tried to be strong
No matter how wise I was, I feel
wrong
To forget that I never followed
That man that I adored
Who promised me pretty sins and

Bordeaux is sitting on his throne. Enter Julian, carrying
the sword that Marcel had. He points it at Bordeaux's
throat. |

Play Iron |

JULIAN
(Angrily)
Bordeaux, I am going to kill you! |
|
|
|
KING BORDEAUX
(Drawing sword)
Not if I do first! |
|
|
Begin the sword fight, which continues throughout Iron. |
|
|
JULIAN
(With Bordeaux)
Deep in the ocean, dead and cast
away,
where innocence is burned... in
flames.
A million mile from home, I'm
walking ahead.
I'm frozen to the bones, I am.
A soldier on my own, I don't know
the way.
I'm riding up the heights... of
shame.
I'm waiting for the call, the hand
on the chest.
I'm ready for the fight... and
fate.
The sound of iron shots is stuck
in my head.
The thunder of the drums dictates
the rhythm of the falls, the
number of deaths,
the rising of the horns... ahead.
From the dawn of time to the end
of days,
I will have to run... away.
I want to feel the pain and the
bitter taste...
of the blood on my lips... again.
This steady burst of snow is
burning my hands.
I'm frozen to the bones, I am.
A million mile from home, I'm
walking away.

INT. SCENE 6 - DAY |
|
The audience sees a sort of wasteland. Julian is in center
stage in white robes with Marcel. |
|
|
JULIAN
(Sung)
I heard a whisper on my shoulder
Pretending life is worth the fight
O can you hear the song of thunder
When fear strangles a soldier's
pride
And on the surface of the waters
Will dance reflections of the fire
in the night
I remember cheering from towers
A face is smiling in the light
I remember the bells, the flowers
Those days are dying in the dark
Boy I was shaped for the fury
Now I pay the price
Of the human race's vice
And I was promised
The glorious ending of a knight
But the crown is out of sight
I'm slowly drifting into slumber
Cause I have lost the force to
fight
It's like a cold hand on my
shoulder
I'll see you on the other side
And in the arms of endless anger
Will end the story of a soldier in
the dark |
|
|
|
PEDDLER
(Voiceover)
I told you, boy. You are mine. |

THE END |
