THE GOOD GETS SCREWED

FADE IN:

INT. 5:00 A.M THE NY SUBWAY - DAY |
|
|
We see the New York city subway. It's late, no one is in
sight. Then we see a homeless man sleeping, twisting his
head violently. |
|
|

HOMELESS MAN
(sleeping twisting
his head
violently.)
No! No! look out, No! look out! |
|
|
|
|
VIETNAM DREAM STATE |
|
|
The homeless man opens his eyes screaming and hearing sounds
of bullets and bombs. He ducks behide a bench. Then the
homeless man begins to hear voices. |
|
|

VIETNAM U.S. SOLDIER
help! help me! |
|
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
(shaking his head))
No!, No!, God forgive me please! |
|
|
|
| |
INNER THOUGHTS
You couldn't save them... You
don't deserve to live! |
|
|
|
|
PRESENT SUBWAY |
|
|
The homeless man wakes up and drinks his last drop of gin,
then gets up and walks into the darkness in the subway. |
|
|
|
Hearing laughter and wispers from every where. |
|
|
| |
|
INT. NEW JERSEY RICH HOUSE - DAY |
|
|
|
GETTING READY |
|
|
The rich man is in his underwear, he goes in the closet
checking what suit he going to wear, as he goes thought each
suit we see his old vietnam outfit. |
|
|
|
BREAKFEST |

|

|
A rich man is eating breakfest, as the rich man's wife is
feeding a baby. |
|
|

RICH MAN'S WIFE
Here comes the plane rrrrr,
(feeding the baby) boomm! Here we
go again. |
|
|

RICH MAN
(reading the paper) murder,
murder, murder, what eles is new. |
|
|
|
| |
RICH MAN'S WIFE
Don't let life get you down honey.
Look, at the better things in
life. ( feeding the bady.) |

RICH MAN
(Looking at the
baby smiling then
looking
depressed.)
You know it's almost been a year,
since the accitded. |

|

RICH MAN'S WIFE
You can't keep mooping around
depressed about life. We're the
only thing this bady has. |
|
|

RICH MAN
I know... I just miss my daughter
and even her husband. (looking at
a picture of his dughter.) |

With that said he looks at his watch.
|
|

RICH MAN
Oh, shit it's 6:30 already,I have
to get to work. |
|
|

RICH MAN'S WIFE
Ok, I'll see you tonight. |

|

RICH MAN'S WIFE
Yeah, tonight. I'm going to do a
little shopping with my cutie pie
Michel then get my hair done. So
I'll meet me there. |

Rich man gets up heads for the door. |
|

RICH MAN'S WIFE
(giving a kiss.)
Go out there and make the world a
little better place to live, OK. |
|
|

INT. 6:00AM IN THE MORNING SUBWAY - DAY |
|
|
Everyone walking around in the busy city. We see the rich
man as he goes in to the subway, waiting for the train.
During his wait he sees two young teens and a homeless man
from a distance. |
|
|
|
(Close up of the two kids and the homeless man.) |
|
|
The homeless man tries to get back the cup. But the two
young teens quickly take him down and begin to kick him
furiously. The Rich man sees this and runs up to the scene. |
|
|
| |
RICH MAN
What the hell is going on here?. |
|
|
|
|
Pushing one of the kids off the homeless men. |
|
|
| |
KID 2
(Turning to the
Rich man)
Why don't you mind your own
business, like the rest of these
fucking people. |
|
|
|
|
Pulling out a switch blade. |
|
|
| |
RICH MAN
Look, I don't want any trouble,
just leave the man alone ok. |
|
|
|
|
Kid 1 sees a cop. |
|
|
| |
KID 1
You know what? Ok, OK, what ever
say...Hero. |
|
|
|
|
Putting away the blade. |
|
|
Then the two kids walk away. The rich man turns his
attention to the homeless man. |
|
|

HOMELESS MAN
(losed in thought)
I served this country for years. I
sacrificed my life and this is the
thanks I get damn. yeah so thanks
alot. |

RICH MAN
(Looking at his
vet jacket.)
No problem. Hey, it's the least I
can do for a fellow war veteran. |
|
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
(notting head.) |
|
|
|
| |
RICH MAN
(shaking the
homeless man
hand.)
Nam 1973 to 1974. |
|
|
|

HOMELESS MAN
1972 to 1975. |
|
|
|
The rich man begans to put his suit case on the floor, then
sits next to him. Then he looks at his watch. |
|
|
| |
RICH MAN
Can I ask you something? |
|
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
Go right ahead, ask me anything. |
|
|
|
| |
RICH MAN
(looking around.)
Ah, forget it. |
|
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
No, go ahead ask me anything. You
did saved me from those two punks. |
|
|
|
| |
RICH MAN
Ah, ok, look, this is kind of
personal but, I mean there's so
many of us that are on the street
still suffering from the pains of
what happened 30 years ago. So I
always wanted to ask this question
to some in your position. How did
you let yourself get this low? How
did you become a person with
nothing?

I mean, what happenes or happened
to you? |

HOMELESS MAN
When we come up out of that war
that hell we do it in hopes of
coming home to something, perhaps
even to someone who loves us... In
life we're expected to go though
some hell but, what hell
contunues. |

|
|
The rich man begins to feel really bad, so he begins to pat
the homeless's back. |
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
(Hearing screams)
Your friends rot in hell. |
|
|
|
| |
INNER THOUGHTS
Help, help, me!! |
|
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
And you came home to nothing but
emptiness. No one to love you,
not even your country. |
|
|
|
|
We see a American flag ripped in peaces. |
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
Not your girl. |
|
|
|
|

I'm sorry to hear that. Your
right, with out my family , I'll
have nothing to live for. I have
to take care of what I have left. |

The rich man grabs the homeless man's hand and gives him a
hand full of money. |
|
|
|
Still holding his hand. |
|
|

RICH MAN
Oh, by the way, thank you. |
|
|
|

RICH MAN
(smiling)
you've made me truly appreciate
what I have. |
|
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
(smiling.)
Maybe that's why I was put on this
earth. You know my purpose. |
|
|
|
|
They release hands. The rich man begins to walk away. |
|
|
As the homeless man shows the money in his hand. As they
both say God bless you at the same time. |
|
|

|
INT. THE SUBWAY - NIGHT |
|
|
The homeless man buys some liquor at the liquor store. Then
buys some acid from a dealer, he takes the acid and then
continues to drink the liquor as he walks to the subway. He
begins to lose his mind. As the homeless man sits down, He
begins to hear voices coming from the egde of the subway. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The homeless man looks at the egde of the subway platform. |
|
|
| |
INNER THOUGHTS
Help me!, you bastard. You left
me there to rot, your own best
friend. |
|
|
|
The Homeless walks to the edge, looks down, theres nothing,
then turns around to see a U.S soldier against the wall, who
slides down and leaves a smere of blood on the wall.
(Homeless man hallucinating) |

VIETNAM U.S. SOLDIER
I was your best friend. |
|
|

The soldier runs up to him and then dissappears. The
homeless man begins to cry, then he falls to the side of the
wall. |
|

HOMELESS MAN
I could have saved you, I could
have saved you. |
|
|

INNER THOUGHTS
(Voice gets
lauder.)
You have nothing but vengeance. |
|
|
|
|
The homeless man closes his eyes, then opens them. |
|
|
| |
|
INT. GIRLFRIENDS HOUSE-PAST MEMORY. - DAY |
|
|
We see that the homeless man is all dressed up in his
honored soldier's outfit.The homeless man looks stunned. He
looks around and sees a door in front of him. He's about to
knock on the door, but stops. Then proceeds to knock on it.
A women call out. |

HOMELESS MAN
(looking at her
strangly)
Hi, is Laura there? |
|
|

WOMEN
There's no laura here. |
|

Wait, no,no, this is 44 campbell
Ave right? |
|

WOMEN

The homeless man begans to walk away. |
|

WOMEN
Wait, there was a beautiful women
who came here with her man a few
weeks ago. Are you the man that
went to VIETNAM a year ago? |

Giving him a letter then shutting the door. The homeless man
opens it and quickly reading it in his voice. |
|
|

HOMELESS MAN
Dear Lover, you have been gone for
nearly a year. They said that when
you come back, you will never be
the same again. When I asked them
why, they gave me no answer. What
ever you did there, they are going
to make you suffer extremely. I
missed you so much once, but as
the days went by, I became a
stronger woman. I love you more
then anything or any other person
in this world, but I have to
leave. Leave my past and continue
to my future. I dont know how to
tell you this my love, but I'm 9
months pregnant. I'm sorry, now
its not about us, it's about the
baby. I hope you understand. I
will love you forever. Your
ex-lover. |

The homeless man looks down, then looks around, then looks
back at the letter. |

Dear ass hole,

goverment said to do, now you
belong to the devil. It's OK
though, I found a person with a
better life. I hope the letter
never gets to you and you rot in
Nam. |

The homeless man blinks his eyes, and the letter is back to
normal. |
|

INT. BACK TO THE PRESENT- NY - DAY |
|
|
| |
INNER THOUGHTS
You have suffered enough, its time
for the world to suffer. |
|
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
Yes, yes, why can't I have the
simple things in life? |
|
|
|
|
Standing up and taking a knife out his pocket. |
|
|
| |
INNER THOUGHTS
Do it, Do it! |
|
|
|
|
The homeless man takes the knife, and puts it to his body. |
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
NO!, NO!, I can't, why are you
tormenting me? |
|
|
|
| |
INNER THOUGHTS
Ha!, Ha!, you must have vengeance.
Make her suffer. |
|
|
|
With that said, a group of people begin to fill the subway.
The homeless man looks around, and his eye lit up. |
|
|

INNER THOUGHTS
Kill her!, there she is, I gave
you the chance of a life time,
take it, make her suffer. |
|
|
|
The homeless man quickly walks to the group of people, then
walks behind a woman and stabs her. |
|
|
| |
HOMELESS MAN
You bitch, why did you you leave
me?, Why? |
|
|
|

Then stabs her a few more times in the back. The lady turns
around and looks at him. |
|
|
| |
RICH MAN'S WIFE
(In shock.)
Ralphy.... |
|
|
|
Then falls to the floor. The homeless man looks at the baby
in the carriage then goes after it but is saved by
bystander. |
|
|
| |
|
INT. LATER THAT NIGHT-SUBWAY - NIGHT |
|
|
We see the homeless man in hand cuffs. Then we see the rich
man scream, as he sees his wife on the floor. The rich man
tries to run up to the homeless man, but gets stopped by the
cops. |
|
|
| |
|
INT. 3 MONTHS LATER RICH MANS HOUSE - DAY |
|
|
This scene starts with us seeing a picture of the rich man
and his departed wife. The rich man is looking at it and
begins to cry. Then, the door bell rings. The rich man
answers the door. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
COP
I have something to give to you. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

COP
A letter, from Ralphy. |
|
|

| |
HOMELESS MAN
From that bum who took my wife's
life. I don't want it. |

You know, it's ashame. He just
passed away. |
|

RICH MAN
Good, I hope he rots in hell. |
|

Look Mr Johnson, I know you're
still very upset about the whole
situation he killed your wife for
chistsake. But This was his last
request. For you to read this
letter. So Whether you read it or
not, is up to you. I did what I
came to do. |

The cop leaves. Mr. Johnson looks at the letter and then
opens it. |

HOMELESS MAN
First, I would like to thank you
for taking the time to read this
letter. I'm sorry for what I've
done to you and your wife. I wish
I could turn back the hands of
time. Sorry, I let my inner demons
get the best of me. It's a small
world after all. Who would have
known that the only person that
who ever loved me would be your
wife. I'm really sorry I took her
away from you. I wrote this letter
to thank you and her for freeing
my mind. |

We hear a baby crying in the background, then we see the
rich man going up stairs to get the baby. Then he continues
to read the letter. |
|

HOMELESS MAN
I see things in a clearer light
now. Things make more sence now.
Drugs has always been my gateway,
but also fogged my visions. Now
with a sober heart and mind, I see
the truth. |
|

|
We see the homeless man slice his wrist, quietly. Blooding,
the homeless man takes the blaket then lays to rest. |
|
|

HOMELESS MAN
(continuing the
letter)
Death is true freedom, and sucide
is the short cut. |
|
|
|
|
The rich man looks at the letter, shakes his head. |
|
|
