State King
by Misha Zavoico (zoomaway1@yahoo.com)

Rated: PG-13   Genre: Organized Crime   User Review: ****
I used scriptBuddy like 2 or 3 years ago and totally abandoned this script. I must've been 12, so I came back on ScriptBuddy a week or two ago and found this, and I was curious on what people thought. It's my first attempt at mystery, where Luke Mason is killed.

INT. THE PUB - DAY

In a small quiet pub, a man is sitting on a tall stool
watching TV. The show is Judge Judy, and he doesn't seem to
pay much attention to it. The pub is slightly smokey with
around 2 or 3 other people in the pub, all of them but the
one man is smoking. The man is medium sized with medium
hair, his face slightly resembles that of Jack Lemmon,
except skinnier.

CAMERA CHANGE.

The camera angle is now on or near the end of the pub table.
The camera is looking down the 3 or 4 people. All but the
one man is looking attentively at the Judge Judy TV show.
You can visably see 4 empty beer glasses, still with traces
of the recently drunken beer.

                       FRANK
Had enough there, Luke? That's
four and it's still quite early.

                       LUKE (SLIGHTLY DRUNK)
One more. I can handle it.

FRANK (MUTTERING UNDER HIS BREATH, SORT OF AT LUKE)
Tha's whut they all say 'til
they're on the side of the road
with an overturned car.

Luke gives a hidden glance over a Frank as if he doesn't
care or pretends he didn't hear what he had just said. Frank
slams the beer in front of Luke and gives a sudden nod
towards Luke.

CAMERA NOW LOOKING AT JUDGE JUDY WHILE INCORPORATING FRANK
IN THE PICTURE.

In the background while Frank is cleaning out old glasses
with a white washcloth, the sound from the TV says "guilty".
That's enough for Frank, he lays the glass down firmly
(nearly breaking it) and all attention is on the TV. He
listens for clarification. He gets it, the words "guilty"
appear again on the screen.

2.

                       FRANK
Knew it. He was guilty right from
the start.

MIKE (WITH SLIGHT GIGGLE IN HIS VOICE)
Shore did Franky!

As Luke finishes his final beer, he lays the glass down.
Searches for money, gets the exact change and lays it down.

                       LUKE
Frank, Mike, James. Good day.

At the end of that dialouge, he hints at a slight nod.

                       FRANK
You, Luke, hold it! Neva' know
wha's up in Ogden. Lemme count
your change. Just to, uhhh, make
sure.

With some frustration, Luke waits.

                       FRANK
Why, you laid it down all right.
Have a nice day now, Luke.

Luke gives a goodbye nod to all the people in the pub. While
at the door, he changes his mind for a quick second and
looks back at the TV. He shakes his head and moves out. The
doors swings a couple of times. *CAMERA CHANGE*. The angle
is now back on the 3 people in the bar, Frank cleaning
glasses and watching TV. The camera is station approx. 15
feet away from the people sitting.

INT. JERRY'S HOUSE - DAY

Luke drives up in his 1959 Ford Thunderbird in the same
clothing he had at the bar except this time he has a
briefcase. The walks out of the car while opening his
brownish briefcase. He happyily (sort of skipping) walks to
the front door.

THE CAMERA CHANGES SO YOU CAN LOOK INTO JERRY'S HOUSE.

3.

Lukes walk patiently but anxiously at the door. Finally the
door opens and new a face appears.

                       JERRY (NOT VERY HAPPILY)
Hi, Luke. Come on in.

CAMERA CHANGE, THE CAMERA IS NOW POSITIONED INSIDE JERRY'S
HOUSE.

Jerry's house is quite strange. It is pinkish with pinkish
lamps, pinkish walls, pinkish carpets, and pinkish couches.
The light is even tinted pink. Luke gives a hidden look of
disgust but continues into his house.

                       JERRY
Sit. Please, sit.

Luke sits and looks around curiously. He sits very gently.

                       LUKE
I want to further discuss the
plans and salary for the new bank.

                       JERRY
Of course.

CAMERA VIEW NOW FROM A DIFFERENT HOUSE.

The camera is now placed in the window of Vikki's house. But
we do not now it's Vikki's. But the window faces the house
of Jerry. As the camera angle lowers a head is revealed.
She is Vikki, but the audience does not know this. Vikki is
looking out the window very still. Then as she's looking
on, Luke storms out of Jerry's house and quickly drives
away. Vikki stands as she watches the car drive away.

4.

INT. THE PUB AGAIN - NIGHT

Luke walks into the same pub casually. No one really seems
to take notice, they're all concentrated on one another or
their beers. It's much more hoppin' with girls and boys
together, and some boys just alone. There are only around
10 more people, but it IS a small bar. When he walks in
casually it's still a fast kind of hard walk, but he walks
10 feet and his expression lightens up and his walk is much
slower.

                       LUKE
Mike! Watch yourself, you've been
here since 4:50 I believe. It's
now...

Checks his watch. As he does, his eyes pop out and is in
disbelief.

                       LUKE
It's now 7:30! Heh heh!

                       MIKE (VERY DRUNK)
I'm fine...

Lukes laughs under his breath and then sits down at his same
seat and is next to Mike (on his right) and James (on his
left). We met these two earlier, but only Mike spoke.

AS LUKE WALKS OVER, THE CAMERA PANS ACROSS A WINDOW IN THE
PUB (IMPORTANT LATER)

                       LUKE (GLANCING OVER)
And you, too, James.

                       JAMES
Ahh, I've drunk more.

James is short and wearing messy clothes, but it's odd, his
hair is very neat and is brown. He has glasses and is very
skinny. Mike is quite the opposite. He has nice clothes
but very messy hair and is a blonde. No glasses, and a
little overweight. Mike looks a little funny.

5.

                       LUKE
I'll have a martini, straight up
on the rocks.

                       DICK (WITH A GRIN)
Something a little more
sophisticated than your average
Heinekin! Martini straight up on
the rocks comin' right up.

Luke looks up and realizes who is talking.

                       LUKE
Dick! You haven't worked here
since a month! Well, I hope you
had a nice vacation.

                       DICK
Yep, thank ya kindly. All I
needed was a month long vacation
to someplace nice.

Dick is very tall, has short hair, and is very skinny. He
has big eyebrows, and an oval head. He hands Luke the
martini.

                       LUKE
Greece, right? Athens?

Dick nods very happily.

                       DICK
Well, Luke. Come on! Drink up!

WITH A FADE IN/FADE OUT EFFECT, WE CAN TELL TIME HAS PASSED

The camera is now a bird's eye view. We are looking down at
his beers. This time, the glasses aren't left, out, they
were taken and we see 9 wetrings where glasses used to be.
He lays down an empty, 10th glass. He lays down money and
walks out. The whole time he's walking out, little
conversations continue behind him.

6.

EXT. THE MURDER - NIGHT

A 1959 Ford Thunderbird drives into a cul-de-sac, a person
gets out, it's Luke. He gets out of his car wobbily and
finally works his way to the mailbox. The cul-de-sac is
plain, the area in which he is is new. The driveway (which
is his) is newly paved and the mailbox is new as well. It
is surrounded by bush and the edges of the driveway are
lined up stones. Luke opens the mailbox, checks inside,
nothing is in there. As soon as he turns around, a figure
appears from the bushes around the mailbox. Luke, not
expecting it, gets it. The figure stabs Luke in the head.
It a short cry of pain, Luke quickly falls to the ground.
The figure is masked and dressed all in black. As soon as
Luke falls, he takes his knife and stabs him once in the
stomach. There is no blood, this is not supposed to be a
gory scene. As the figure finishes his deed, Luke's head
falls to the side. The figure then stands up straight, but
his head is looking straight down. He gives the figure a
hard nudge with his foot. He wait 2 seconds, taking in what
he's done, then looks around hesitantly, and finally jogs
off. Not a run, but a jog. It's all from the same camera
angle and as he goes of the screen, Luke's dead body lays
there for 3 seconds. Then the scene ends.

INT. THOMAS GETS HIS ASSIGNMENT - DAY

It is morning, approx. 10 in the morning. This is a police
station, and this is known by the audience due to the
costuming, they're all in police suits. It is an all wood
police station with tiled floors that are baige. It isn't
very busy. The camera shows views of some police officers
but eventually focuses and follows a man not quite dressed
as a policeman, but certainly dressed nicely, but not in a
tuxedo or blazer and doesn't have fancy pants. This fellow
is a little short with short hair, his hair color is black,
he has a long strided and quick-paced walk to him. He walks
into a door.

CAMERA CHANGE TO INSIDE THE ROOM

From inside the room, you see the door the man would be
walking through. A desk is partially in view.

7.

                       GERALD (O.S.)
Detective Thomas Wilson I presume.

Geralds voice is deep.

                       THOMAS (WITH A NOD)
Yes, sir.

                       GERALD (SATISFACTION)
Well, good. Take a seat Detective
Thomas.

Thomas does as he's told.

                       GERALD (STILL O.S.)
Do you have any idea why you're
here today?

                       THOMAS
Well, with me being a top-notch
homicide expert I would believe a
murder has just taken placeee...is
this correct?

CAMERA CHANGE TO SEE GERALD

Gerald is a big man with red hair. He has an extremely
large face which is round. He is decently tall though,
which makes up for his size.

                       GERALD
Good, you're solving puzzles
already.

CAMERA CHANGE BACK TO THOMAS

                       THOMAS (SMILING)
Well, sir, it's what I'm known
for.

Gerald is not impressed. Thomas suddenly becomes serious
and sits up in his seat.

                       THOMAS (HESITANTLY)
But anyway, sir, what's the
assignment?

8.

                       GERALD (ANNOYED)
Will you stop it with calling me
sir? I can't stand "sir". Just,
please, call me Gerald. Oh, I'm
sorry, I didn't introduce myself!
I'm Gerald Cummings, chief police
of this beautiful town of Ogden.

Thomas nods with a monotone expression. Gerald now realizes
he hasn't made a good first impression and wants to get the
session over with.

                       GERALD
Victim is Luke Mason. He is a
medium sized man with a medium
length of hair. Usually has hair
pulled back I would suppose. He
has an oval face and I would say
he looks slightly like Jack
Lemmon. You'll see him, don't
worry.

Awkward silence.

                       THOMAS (NOT LIKING GERALD)
Is, uhh, that all?

GERALD (NOD QUICKER WITH EVERY WORD)
Yes, I believe that's it. Yes.

Another awkward silence.

                       GERALD
Well, the body is still at the
scene of the crime. Oh yes, here
are directions.

He scribbles.

                       GERALD (EMBARRASSED)
There, Thomas. Well, good luck!
And I have Margina's number if ya
need it.

Thomas nods again, very annoyed and very frustrated with
Gerald. He walks out the door.

9.

                       GERALD (FRANTIC AND ANNOYED)
Agh chum! Might wanna know who
she is...

With that, the scene suddenly ends.

EXT. THE MURDER SCENE - DAY

It isn't very busy around the murder scene. The camera pans
around the scene (place where Luke was murdered) until the
camera finds Thomas. It follows him to a police car where
he knocks on the window. A police officer is there. As the
window rolls down, he shows his badge.

                       THOMAS
Detective Thomas Wilson. I've
been assigned by Gerald Cummings,
cheif police for Odgen, Utah. If
you don't mind, son, could you
lead me to the dead body.

                       POLICEMAN (TIRED)
Sure can. What exactly are ya?

                       THOMAS (NOT UNDERSTANDING)
Uhhh, detective. But if you want
detail, I'm a top-notch homicide
expert for the Las Vegas area, but
I've been assigned here. Please
lead me to the dead body.

                       POLICEMAN
I am coming! I am comin'...

He gets out of the car slowly. The man is average sized,
approx. 130, he has brown has, big nose, and long arms. As
he gets out, he adjusts his belt. He starts walking and
Thomas follows, the camera follows them until the
policeofficer comes to a stop.

                       POLICEMAN
There.

                       THOMAS
Thank you.

10.

CAMERA CHANGE TO GROUND LEVEL, LOOKING AT THOMAS

                       THOMAS (VERY OBSERVING)
Hmmm, stabbed twice. Once in head
and once in stomach. Looks
like...hmm...looks like the
stomach was the second stabbing,
sort of to make sure he is dead.
Notice the bigger cut on the
stomach wound, it was dragged
across the chest. (Looking at the
street) A slight trail of blood as
well.

He stands up and obersves his surrondings. Then gets back
to ground level.

                       THOMAS (VERY OBSERVANT)
Judging by the direction he fell
in and the angle of the slice of
the knife he fell back. That
mainly means he was jumped. It
looks possible like it was done
from the bushes. It would be the
most reasonable spot.

Thomas stands up and looks the policeman in the eye. Not
too close, he wants to keep his distance.

                       THOMAS
Did you people at least search
him?

                       POLICEMAN
No, why would we? No reason.

Thomas is in disbelief. He is not trusting the cops and
chief and is believing they're incredibly stupid. He bends
down and starts his search within his pockets. When he
reaches in his coat-inside pocket, he pulls out a paper and
begins to read.

                       THOMAS (HOLDING UP PAPER)
This is why you search. This is
an insurance contract with the
East Coast Insurance Organization
            (MORE)

11.

                       THOMAS (cont'd)
approved by Mary Dillsen. Is
there an Easy Coast Insurance
Organization around here?

                       POLICEMAN
Why, yes. 5 minutes down that
road.

He points at a road. Thomas looks for a little than nods in
approval. He begins walking back to the car when he
suddenly stops.

                       THOMAS (DOUBTFUL)
Did you at least check the car?

                       POLICEMAN
Oh...yes, of course. That we did
a million times! Nothing though,
we found nothing.

Thomas trusts this one's cops word and hops into his car and
drives away.

INT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY - DAY

This is a wooden door, plain with no decoration. Then there
comes a tapping.

                       MARY (O.S.)
Ya huh? Come in.

The door opens slowly. Thomas pokes his head out of the
side of the door and then comes in fully. He closes the
door gently then walks quietly towards a desk.

                       THOMAS
Miss Dillsen?

CAMERA CHANGE SO MARY IN VIEW

                       MARY
That'd be me.

12.

                       THOMAS
Detective Thomas Wilson. I'm
working on the murder case for
Luke Mason. Can you tell me
anything you know about Luke? Why
he came for? Just some basic
information. Is that possible? Do
you have the time?

                       MARY (DOUBTFUL/DISBELIEF)
Detective?

                       THOMAS
Yes, ma'am. Detective.

                       MARY
Well sure than! Got all the time
in the world!

Thomas pulls over a wooden seat that is quite small and take
out a notepad.

                       THOMAS
Tell me basic information about
him. All you know.

                       MARY
Well, he came to me because he was
making a new bank. He needed
insurance for the new building. He
is quite a wealthy man but isn't
very happy most of his time.

She leans over.

                       MARY (WHISPERING)
He's having "wife-troubles".

Thomas gives a good, looonnggg, nod.

                       THOMAS
Ahhhhhhhhhhh-ha. Alright. Is
that all you know? Are you sure
there's nothing more? Do you know
where he went after coming here?
Because if there's not I'm calling
            (MORE)

13.

                       THOMAS (cont'd)
it a day. I also turn myself in
early on the first day of
investigation.

                       MARY
That's all I know.

                       THOMAS
Great! Then that's a day! Thank
you for your time.

He gets up and walks out quickly. Now we should be getting
the impression that he's not liking the case.

INT. IN HIS HOTEL ROOM - DAY

A room is shown with no one in it and the curtains closed,
but enough light is coming through to make the room look
normally lighted. It's a medium-sized square room with a
Play Station and a view of woods. The bed is in the corner
with a desk and overhead drawers. A closet is to the right
of the door when you walk in. The room is messy, when this
scene opens, a short mellow tune comes in, classic towards
murder mysteries. Then Thomas walks in slowly and tired. He
looks down at his messy room.

                       THOMAS
Oh, what? Cleaning service! I
called for cleaning service.

He unties his belt and throws is on the ground, then
unbuttons his shirt. Then he unzips his fly a little.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF/SARCASTIC CURIOUSITY)
Maybe this hotel can offer me
something good in Utah.

THE CAMERA CHANGES TO A DOOR WITH NUMBER 252 ON IT

The door opens and it's Thomas. It's an outside view of his
Mariott room.

                       HOTEL SERVICE MAN
Bowmore Legend Whiskey. Full
bottle is $21.99.

14.

                       THOMAS
I'll take the full bottle.

He searches in his pocket and hands him the cash.

CAMERA CHANGE BACK TO INSIDE HOTEL ROOM

He wobbles over to the bed and starts drinking from the
bottle. Suddenly, the phone rings. Music continues.

THOMAS (ANNOYED, HE WANTS TO BE ALONE)
I wonder...

He picks it up.

                       THOMAS
Oh, Gerald.

                       GERALD (HEARD OVER PHONE)
What're you doin' in the hotel
room?! We hired you to solve a
case!

                       THOMAS
And I'm working on it. Trust me,
I've found important information.
Really I have!

                       GERALD (HEARD OVER PHONE)
Better be 'cause you're not on the
streets gathering evidence.

                       THOMAS
I know, it's odd. It's something
I do. I just give in the first
night, it helps me get more into
the case. It has worked.

                       GERALD (HEARD OVER PHONE)
It's a waste of precious time.

                       THOMAS
Not if it'll help me find who did
it.

15.

He hangs up, then slowly heards toward the bed. He sits
down with his arms on his knees hold his Whiskey. He takes
a sip, then lays it down. He goes back to his original
pose, then falls back. Screen fade out, music fade out.

INT. POLICE STATIONS - DAY

In the same police station as before, Thomas walks in
immediately, but it's empty except for 1 person. He walks
over to Gerald's door and opens it slowly, then continues
inside quickly.

CAMERA NOW INSIDE GERALD'S ROOM

This is the same room we saw earlier when he was assigned
the project.

                       GERALD
Thomas! Boy have I got something
good for you, I sure do hope
you've brought your notepad.

                       THOMAS
Sure, I have it with me all the
time.

                       GERALD
Great, I'd like to introduce to
you...Mike Sonny. Friend of Luke,
and saw him the night of the
murder.

Thomas is starstruck.

                       THOMAS
Wow! Amazing, great! Yes, Mike,
I'm Thomas Wilson, detective.

                       MIKE
My pleasure, Thomas.

Thomas takes a seat.

16.

                       THOMAS
You saw him the night of the
murder, alright. What was he
like?

                       MIKE (NODDING)
Monotone. Wasn't too great. Drank
a lot of beer.

                       THOMAS
Oh! So you saw him at a bar?

                       MIKE
Yes. The Midnight Pub. It's
downtown, right by-

                       THOMAS
I've driven by there. Continue.

                       MIKE
What else do you want to know?

                       THOMAS
Do you know, even by names, any of
his friends?

                       MIKE
Yes, well, James Fernite, he was
at the pub with me. And Craig
Smith. Yes, him as well. I also
know a Jerry, but I don't know who
he has. The day before the murder
he mentioned that name.

                       THOMAS
Can you clarify all of these? He
is starting a new bank, is
wealthy, isn't very happy, and is
having family troubles?

                       MIKE
Yes, sir, I can.

                       THOMAS
Good, that'll be all for today.
Thanks for the information, I may

                       THOMAS (cont'd)
come back to you for clarification
or ask more questions.

                       GERALD
Good! Get outta here ya chum!

Mike leaves, but not quickly. He's not afraid of Gerald.

                       GERALD
So, uh...update me. Did he give
you any good stuff?

                       THOMAS
Yes, the fact he was at pub and
the friends he mentioned. For
now, I'm off to the pub. Then I
think I'll stop by Craig's.

                       GERALD (LAUGHING)
Good luck, you!

Thomas walks out, and ignores Gerald.

EXT. MIDNIGHT PUB - DAY

In a gravel parking lot with not much around it except a few
little structures of some sort a car drives up to the
parking lot. The car engine dies, the headlights off, and
out hops Thomas. No main building has been shown yet. But
as the camera pans following Thomas, the Midnight Pub is
revealed. We zoom in on the sign.

INT. MIDNIGHT PUB: INSIDE - DAY

As Thomas walks in, the bar is completely empty except for
Frank who is doing his usual cleaning of the glasses before
the late afternoon rush. It's the same interior as the 1st
scene.

                       FRANK
Who are ya comin' so early?

Thomas continues walking and takes a seat. Frank follows
his movements.

18.

                       FRANK
Well, hey there. I've seen you in
the papers, uhhh, Tom. Good thing
your doing for Luke. Young kid.

                       THOMAS
So you know me. I don't need to
introduce myself and what I'm
doing?

Thomas gets extremely serious and is not quite amused. A
beat.

                       FRANK
So, why're ya here?

                       THOMAS
Why else? I need to ask you a few
things.

                       FRANK
If it's for Luke...go ahead.

                       THOMAS
For right now, answer true or
false. Luke mentioned the name
Jerry to you before.

                       FRANK
False.

                       THOMAS
He has a good, reliable friend
whose name is Craig. Craig Smith.

Frank shrugs.

                       THOMAS
Luke was here the night of the
murder.

                       FRANK
True.

19.

                       THOMAS
Good guy named Mike Sonny was here
as well.

                       FRANK
True.

                       THOMAS
Mike is reliable. Trustworthy.

                       FRANK
True.

                       THOMAS
Good. Now these are open-ended
questions. What time was he here?

                       FRANK
In the PM. I'd say around 4:40
until 5:30 or so. Only here once.

                       THOMAS
Do you know where he went after he
went to the pub?

                       FRANK
Sorry, sir. I don't have the
foggiest idea.

                       FRANK
Sorry, sir. I don't have the
foggiest idea.

                       THOMAS
What was he like?

                       FRANK
Whatcha mean? He seemed drunk if
that's it. I asked him if he had
the right amount of cash because
of the amount of beers he had,
thought maybe he would've stolen
them or something. He had 5 or 6
I believe, and it was still early.
I've seem people on 3 go nuts. I
even warned him, don't know if he

                       FRANK (cont'd)
heard me. I was just complainin'
to him at myself...talkin' to
myself. Said he'd be in an
overturned car, but obviously
somethin' worse happened.

                       THOMAS
Yes. Well, was he in the kind of
mood, well. Was he in the kind of
mood where he'd aggrivate or upset
someone?

                       FRANK
Why certainly! He even was
aggravatin' me! He wouldn't
answer or wouldn't say a
thing...but then again I didn't
talk to 'im much. And I get
nervous on the spotlight, and he
was lookin' at me real strange.
But I can be paranoid and I've
been called crazy many a time.
Stolen couple things from some
people.

Frank realizes what he's said. But this WHOLE TIME he's
been a little hesitant. After all, he does get nervous in
the spotlight.

                       FRANK (VERY HESITENTLY)
I'm 68 and 125 days old now. And
that was 40 years ago. I was a
teenager, and I already got
arrested for those crimes. I
learned my lesson.

                       THOMAS
That doesn't matter to me. I'm on
the case of Luke, not Franky.

A beat.

                       THOMAS
You're an odd fellow Frank. Thanks
for your time.

21.

As he gets up and starts walking away...

                       FRANK (QUIETLY AND NODDING)
Sure.

As soon as Thomas walks out of the door, the camera is back
on Frank, who wipes his forehead and shakes his head like a
dog does to get water of him. He's sweating, and it's
obvious.

EXT. OUTSIDE THE MIDNIGHT PUB - DAY

The camera follows Thomas once again to his car. He gets
in, reviews the notes he took, and then drives away.

INT. CRAIG'S - DAY

A door is present with the number 76 on it. It is gold and
shiny with an exotic design. Out of the blue, a hand
appears and knocks. Within seconds, a man answers who is
blonde, a little on the hefty side, but tall. He looks
around 25 years old and seems clueless, it's just a look
about him. As he looks towards the camera, but past it, he
smiles widely, kind of a devilish grin.

                       CRAIG (CHUCKLING)
I've been expecting you!

Wait a little bit to change angle to give a feeling of
wonder.

CAMERA CHANGE AFTER 4 SECONDS TO THOMAS

                       THOMAS
Yes, well, I must say I'm not
suprised. Um, may I come in?

CAMERA CHANGE BACK TO CRAIG

                       CRAIG
Well sure, sure. Why not? Just
hurry up.

22.

He comes goes into Craig's. Craig's house is medium sized
with a red staircase, he has a hall to left of the door with
a piano and a hall to right which leads to a TV and
computer. There's a bathroom along that all too. To the
left where the piano is, there's a glass table and some
couches. They walk into that room, and Thomas sits. Craig
stands, revealing a kitchen. He's leaning on the halldoor.

                       THOMAS (EMBARRASSED)
A little late, but I'm Thomas
(Leo's nodding his head) Wilson,
detective on the Luke Mason murder
(starts shaking his head). I am a
high-class homicide worker. All I
want is a little help from you,
asking questions, identifying some
people, yes. Well, shall I
continue? Are you ready?

                       CRAIG (ON VERGE OF TEARS)
Sure.

                       THOMAS
You, Craig Smith, is a good friend
of Luke's?

                       CRAIG
Of course. From who'd ya hear?

                       THOMAS
Mike Sonny. He's a good man
right?

Craig nods furociously, he obviously cared and liked Luke
very much.

                       THOMAS
Good. So I now I know he is
reliable! Now, I've been hearing
the name Jerry. Does that ring a
bell? I looked in the phonebook
and I see Jerry Walters, Stevens,
Owens, Furson, June, Mally-

23.

                       CRAIG
Jerry Furson. I know a Jerry
Furson. He's an architect for
Luke's new bank. Yeah, he's
designing the building.

                       THOMAS
What do you know about him?

Craig then goes into deep thought trying to recall past
experiances.

                       CRAIG
Talented. Good at his job. I
believe he's quite honest. He
designed the new building going up
in Sacremento. What is it? The,
uhh, the uhh-

                       THOMAS
The High Sky? Always thought it
was a wierd name. That's his
work?

                       CRAIG
Yah-huh.

                       THOMAS
Do you...drink...Mr. Smith?

                       CRAIG (QUICKLY)
Me? Never, I hate it!

                       THOMAS
What do you remember about Luke
before he was murdered?

                       CRAIG (QUICKLY)
I honestly can't remember, sir.

24.

                       THOMAS
Alright, alright. Well, uhhh,
lemme see. (Reviews notes) Good
for now, thank for your time.
Don't be suprised to see me again
even though you may not. (He
smiles) Good day.

Craig leads him to the door and opens it for Thomas. The
view is now outside, facing the car of Thomas. CAMERA
CHANGE. We are now facing Craig who is leaning against the
doorway chewing on something. We hear car sounds in the
background as Leo take 2 steps back, and shuts the door,
which ends the scene.

EXT. CAR DRIVING BY - NIGHT

At a street level angle, Thomas's car drives by.

INT. INSIDE HIS HOTEL - NIGHT

This shot is of Tom sitting on the end of his bed with part
of the wall in the camera's view. CAMERA CHANGE. We are
now dead ahead of Thomas and he is looking at his notepad.
He starts talking to himself.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Mike Sonny, first visit of the
day. Can't be him, he's a good
guy as-I-am-told. Good info guy.

Flips pad.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Frank Hearst! Bartender, now
there's an interesting character.

Flips pad.

25.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Arrested a bunch of times, he has
some bad blood. But no reason I
could find except looking at him
in an odd way. But that's not
bad, but he is considered crazy.

Scratches his chin, then is forehead and goes into deep
thought for about 4-5 seconds.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Yeah, Franky. You may be the one.

Flips pad.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Craig, now there you are.

Reads his pad for around 5 seconds.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Sure do know a lot dontcha? Yeah
sure, you can be a suspect.

Laughs at himself. Then walks over to the hotel fridge and
pulls out his now half empty whiskey. Pours himself some,
then drinks it all in one gulp. This continues for 3 gulps.
Then he puts it back. He walks over to the phone and dials
a number.

INT. BACK TO THE HOTEL - NIGHT

This a shot of Thomas outside his Hotel room. He turns the
key, but it won't open. He tries again, and this time it
opens.

INT. IN THOMAS'S ROOM - NIGHT

We seen Thomas on the emd of his bed reviewing the days
notes. We see a little bit of wall in this camera view. The
camera view switches and we are now dead-on in front of
Thomas.

26.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Mike Sonny. I hear you're
trustworthy. Good source. Clean.

Flips pad.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Frank Hearst! Bartender, now
there's a character.

Flips pad.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Arrest a bunch of times. So there
is bad blood.

Is in deep thought for 4-5 seconds.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Well, Franky, you may be the one!

Flips pad.

                       THOMAS (TO HIMSELF)
Craig now. Hmmm, seems okay. But
you know a good bunch. Sorry
buddy, but your a possibility.

Laughs histerically at himself. When he's finally pleased
with himself, he gets up and goes over to the hotel fridge
and pulls out a now half-empty whiskey bottle. He pours
himself a glass and gulps it down. This continues 3 times.
Then he goes over to the phone and dials a number on the
phone.

                       THOMAS (TO THE PHONE)
Can I have a pizza? Thank you.

He puts it down, and then sits on the edge of the bed, then
falls back to end the scene.

EXT. ALEX'S MEETING - DAY

Using a fade-in/fade-out or white-out/white-in effect, we

notice time has passed. But when the scene comes up, Thomas
is alone and is walking up to a small house with a thin
starcase leading up to it. It's white and longer than it is
tall. Suddenly, his cell phone rings.

                       THOMAS
Yah?

                       GERALD (OVER THE PHONE)
Hey buddy, just checkin' in on ya
today. What're ya doin'?

Thomas begins to pace, he gets the feeling he is going to be
here for awhile.

                       THOMAS
Just checking on some of Luke's
neighbors, maybe it'll do me some
good.

                       GERALD
That's all I needed to hear,
you're doing your job!

The phone hangs up, and Thomas, who is suprised, puts it
down and continues walking up to the house. When he gets to
the door he knocks twice and then rings the doorbell. At
the sound of the bell, the door opens. A lively ALEX
GRATING, 29, spins as he opens the door, leans one elbow on
the doorway and then one arm up in the air with an
unbalanced stance.

                       ALEX
AAAAAALEX Grating! AAAt your
service. And who is this?

                       THOMAS
Thomas Wilson. Detective on the
Luke Mason case, I am a certified
homocide expert. I would like to
ask you a couple of questions.

                       ALEX (WELCOMING)
Absoltively my
fried...abbbsssssooooooootively!
Come in to my "pad".

28.

Thomas follows.

                       ALEX (CON'T)
How has this beautiful town been
treating you?

                       THOMAS
Honestly I think it's as ugly as
God's landscape plans when he was
drunk, with the people as stupid
as that of an incompetant horse.
But those have just been my
experiances. You're chief police
officer is one crazy nut ya know?

Around a 3 second pause. Then, as Alex is drowning himself
in vodka, he cracks up uncontrollably/hysterically, he won't
stop. But finally, after 5 seconds of uncontrollable
laughter he regains himself.

                       ALEX (STILL LAUGHING)
Well...heh heh, sure seems like
you've been enjoying yourself too
much! How long did it take ya to
think that one up!?

Thomas gives him a very odd glance. A very strange glance.

                       THOMAS
Sorry, what's your name?

Alex cracks up even more.

                       ALEX (HYSTERICAL)
Oh bygesus! We haven't even
establish my name yet!

                       THOMAS
Is this a bad time? Are you
intoxicated?

                       ALEX (RELIEVING HIMSELF)
Whew, Alex Grating. Pleased to
meet you, I've been a friend of
Luke for the past 12 years...for
as long as he's lived here. Never

                       THOMAS
Is that so? Do you have any idea
of who it may be? Any clue?

ALEX (STILL WITH A LITTLE GRIN FROM LAUGHING)
What'd I just say? As a detective
don't ya listen? I haven't the
foggiest idea.

Thomas nods as though he's ashamed.

                       THOMAS
I've pretty much clarified
everything I need to, freinds,
evidence, it's all here.

Alex looks interested. He sort of leans in to look at
Thomas's notepad (which is with him always).

                       ALEX
Why not name a few?

                       THOMAS
Mike Sonny, Craig Smith, Frank
Hearst, Jerry Furson, you...Alex
Grating.

                       ALEX
Got a good list there.

                       THOMAS
A detective would hope. Say,
who's the girl on the other side
of Luke's house?

                       ALEX
Holly Dickenson, a good girl. Very
nice. How old are you?

Thomas looks at him really strange.

                       THOMAS (STUTTERING)
I'm a strong 34.

30.

                       ALEX
She's 32! Watch it pal, she'll
take ya by suprise. She's taken
me. Asked her to dinner
profusely. Once you see her, act
real nice. You'll want to see her
in the future.

Thomas nods in a doubtful manner. Then proceeds out the
door. **CAMERA CHANGE** to the front of the house. Thomas
walks out followed by Alex who is looking on. Thomas does a
"L" turn across Luke's house to Holly's. Camera on until
he's out of view.

EXT. HOLLY'S MEETING - DAY

Thomas enters camera view from the right. The does another
L turn to the front of the house. He walks down the
sidewalk up to the door. As he's about to knock, he stops,
stands straight. Leans his head a little, then adjusts his
clothing to look nice. Then rings the bell. The door opens
and HOLLY DICKENSON is standing there. She is of medium
height and is skinny, she has long black hair and is
absolutely gorgeous. Thomas gasps.

                       HOLLY
I just got a call from Alex
Grating, saying that some
detective wanted to see me.

Thomas is trying to regain is conciousness. This girl is
absolutely beautiful, he is now looking very nervous. But
at this moment it's quite obvious he's not gonna speak.

                       HOLLY (CON'T)
Are you that particular detective?

Throughout this scene, Thomas continually gets nicer and
sweeter and more away from his job. We want the audience to
think he's starting to like her.

                       THOMAS
Yes, but why would he call?

31.

HOLLY (SEXY MANNER, BUT SHE DOESN'T MEAN IT, SHE CAN'T HELP IT)
No idea. Come in...please.

Thomas hesitates when walking in.

                       THOMAS (POINTING AROUND HOUSE)
You got, a nice house here.

                       HOLLY
I like it. Why're you here
anyway?

                       THOMAS
Homocide investigator, I mean
detective, I mean person, I
mean...okay. I solve mysteries.
Sorry, hello. I am Thomas Wilson.

                       HOLLY
Holly Dickenson. I'm sure Alex
has already introduced me, though.

Holly and Thomas share a laugh. Holly's is very attractive.

                       HOLLY
What exactly are you solving?

                       THOMAS
Luke Mason's case.

Holly looks as though she's about to throw up.

                       HOLLY (GASPING FOR AIR)
Oh god.

He walks over and puts his arm around her. But as though
he's trying to comfort her.

                       THOMAS
What? What's the matter?

                       HOLLY (DOUBTFUL AND STILL GASPING)
I saw it.

Thomas straightens himself up.

32.

                       THOMAS (IN AWE)
Now what hell?

Holly looks up in a poor face. Thomas can't handle her
beauty and turns away. He puts his hands on his hips.

                       THOMAS (STILL LOOKING AWAY)
What did you mean, you SAW it?

                       HOLLY (POINTING TO A WINDOW)
Out there. I am sure you've seen
it. But it's this window, here.

Thomas turns around and looks out the window. He finally
looks at Holly, and is very close to her. He is taken by
her. He likes her quite a lot.

THOMAS (PUTTING HIS ARM ON HER SHOULDER)
Why don't you tell me about it?

                       HOLLY (SLOW AND SAD)
Well, I heard a car drive up over
there. (points) Then I saw Luke
get out, I don't know what he was
doing, but he got out of the car,
towards the driveway. I turned
back to my magazine I was reading,
and then, I heard a quick yelp. I
finished my sentence, in my
magazine, because I decided it was
nothing. I looked out, and I saw
someone running away from the car.
I didn't see Luke though, I
figured the person running was
Luke. But, he must've been
blocked by the car, when he was
lying down. Understand?

                       THOMAS (GRASPING THE SHOULDER TIGHTER)
I see. Poor girl.

He takes out his pad and copies down what he's just heard.
Then he pipes up to ask another question.

33.

                       THOMAS
What did the man look like? The
one running away.

                       HOLLY
Well, he was wearing all black. It
was hard to tell.

THOMAS (CHUCKLING, QUICK TRANSITION FROM HEAVY TO LIGHT)
Too common. They all wear black.

He turns his head to Holly.

                       THOMAS (FRANK)
Thanks.

Holly regains herself and nods. Thomas starts walking
towards the door. Holly follows leading him to the door. As
she opens the door for him, he stops suddenly and puts both
his hands on the doorway and leans in really close to Holly.

                       THOMAS
Dinner tonight? JUST...JUST...just
to get to know each other. You
seem nice.

Holly smiles and seems quite delighted she has just been
asked out by someone she has just met once.

                       HOLLY
The Midnight Pub. It's a nice
place to be. Meet there at 8:40?

                       THOMAS (DISAPPOINTED)
Is there, anywhere else?

                       HOLLY (SHAKING HER HEAD)
It's the best place to be!

                       THOMAS (NODDING)
Alright. Midnight Pub at 8:40.
Yep, see ya there.

As he leaves, he puts his hand on her shoulder and pats it.
He nods as he does this then leaves the door. The door

34.

closes and Holly turns on the door, leaning against it. She
bites her nail and then smiles. She runs out of the camera
view and the scene ends.

EXT. OUTSIDE HOLLY'S - DAY

Thomas jumps and gives a sign of celebration. He then stops
the celebration, picks up the cell phone and dials. Besides
all neccessary movement to dial a cell phone, he's frozen.

                       THOMAS (VERY ENTHUSIASTICALLY)
Gerald, Gerald, Gerald! I love
this town! I just got a date with
the prettiest gal I've ever met!
(pause) Holly Dickenson. Do ya?
Oh good! (Pause) 8:40. Not a
problem. (Pause) What do I have
to do? Well, I'm meeting with
Jerry Furson today. (Pause) Yes
I know where I am going, I looked
him up! (Pause) Then where?
Well, nothing on my schedule. I
need to see where Jerry leads me,
if anywhere. (Pause) He's the
only one I can rely on for
evidence! (Pause) Pretty much.
(Pause) Hey, I'm not that good!
(He laughs, pause) Don't worry,
I'll get him. No worries.
Alright, goodbye. Yes, bah-bye.

Thomas tucks his cellphone away and then jumps for joy
shouting on the top of his lungs. In a confident manner, he
swings himself into the car, rolls his fingers through his
hair, looks in the mirror. Then drives off rocking backing
and forth.

INT. MEETING JERRY - DAY

In a place we've seen before, Thomas drives up the driveway.
In a series of shots we realize it's Jerry's place. Thomas
drives up rocking back and forth enthusiastically. As he
breaks he drives his fingers through his hair again.

35.

                       THOMAS (COCKY/HAPPILY/ENTHUSIASTICALLY)
Boo ya.

The hops out of the car, confidently adjusts his clothing,
and as he starts walking, brushes his hair with his finger
again. He then walks in a very swuave and over-exaggerated
towards the door and knocks. He waits, but just before he's
about to knock again the door opens and there he is...Jerry.

                       JERRY
Hello?

THOMAS (TILTING HIS HEAD EVERY COUPLE OF WORDS)
Hola, Thomas Wilson. Gracias.
Portugal.

                       JERRY (CONFUSED)
Why aren't we the happy ones! Um,
would you like to come
in...Thomas...sir.

Thomas nods and walks in. As they walk in to the pink
house, Jerry picks up what seems to be a cup of tea. He
starts sipping while pacing slightly.

                       THOMAS (SITTING HIMSELF DOWN)
Jerry Furson-

                       JERRY (SIGHING PLEASUREABLY, LIKE AHHHH)
      (and quickly)
No wait, who the hell are you?

                       THOMAS
Thomas Wilson!

A beat.

                       THOMAS
Oh! I'm a detective on the Luke
Mason case.

                       JERRY
Oh alright, so you already know
I'm his architect for his new
bank. That's how you know me?
Right?

36.

                       JERRY (IN AWE/AMAZEMENT)
Yeah. You're good. Could I ask
you a couple of questions?

                       JERRY
Of course.

Jerry points at his pad.

                       JERRY (GETTING HIMSELF COMFORTABLE)
Shoot.

Jerry is constantly sipping and taking huge gulps of his
tea.

                       THOMAS
So you're his architect, when was
the last time you met with him?

                       JERRY
I don't remember, possibly 3 or 4
days ago.

                       THOMAS (QUESTIONING)
The night of the murder?

                       JERRY (NODDING)
Yes it could've been.

Jerry is still constantly sipping his beverage. But he is
quiet, very quiet.

                       THOMAS
Do you possibly know any drives to
kill him?

                       JERRY
As a matter of fact his wife. They
were breaking up, divorcing, or
something of that sort.

                       THOMAS (CLUING IN)
Ahhh, alright.

He scribbles down furociously and is satisfied. He has a
slight grin on his face.

37.

                       THOMAS (CHUCKLING)
Always the spouse, ain't it?

Both share a enjoyable laugh.

                       THOMAS
I hear you're a talented
architect. Is this true?

                       JERRY
I believe so.

                       THOMAS
Was this a big project?

                       JERRY
Oh yes! Very. A $80,000 project.

                       THOMAS
That's quite a lot.

                       JERRY
Very much so, enough for someone
to be jealous.

Thomas bolts up and looks Jerry straight in the eye.

                       THOMAS
Who's jealous?

                       JERRY
Anyone. Everyone. Someone!
That's quite a large sum.

                       THOMAS
Anyone in particular?

Jerry thinks for a short period of time.

                       JERRY
Why yes! His best friend, Mario
Hellman. The guy with the Italian
accent!

                       THOMAS
Best friend? Are you sure?

38.

                       JERRY
Pretty sure.

Thinks while Thomas is writing.

                       JERRY
But they got into a lot of fights.

                       THOMAS
Did they?

                       JERRY
Yes! Mario had quite a temper.
And recently he's been arguing
with him a lot.

                       THOMAS
Why? They're best of friends.

JERRY (BECOMING MORE SWAUVE AND SMOOTH IN HIS SPEECH)
Mario was against the bank or some
crap like that.

                       THOMAS (RHETORIC)
Why would anyone not want someone
to build a bank?

JERRY (NOT CARING IF IT'S RHETORIC)
Dunno.

                       THOMAS (DISAPPOINTED)
Well I suppose I have to visit
Mario Hellman.

A beat.

                       THOMAS (ANGRIER)
Tonight!

Thomas slams his hand down on the clear table that's in
front of him.

THOMAS (TRYING TO HOLD IN HIS ANGER)
Where can I reach him?

39.

                       JERRY
Why, he's right down the street. A
few houses down. In an off street
called Hulton Terrace (Linda Lane
for actual film site). Continue
straight until you hit number six.

                       THOMAS
Wonderful. Just wonderful! Thanks
for your time Mr. Jerry Furson.

                       JERRY
But of course.

As Thomas walks to the door, he's pulling out his cellphone
and gives Jerry a goodbye nod. As all this happening Jerry
is leading him out the door. Thomas continues out and gives
another goodbye nod. As the door shuts we're now outside.
The camera is on Jerry's front door and Thomas hasn't moved.
His cellphone to his ear, he's looking around, the sun is
beginning to set.

                       THOMAS (ON PHONE)
Hey. Gerald. (Pause) I'm not in
a bad mood, I'll still have my
date just later. (Pause) Or
that's my guess. (Pause) Why? I
have a new man I need to question.
(Pause) Nevermind. Goodbye.

Thomas hangs up and walks sloppily and sadly to his car
where he is no long swauve or cocky or smooth. He actually
opens the door this time and doesn't brush his hair back (to
give the audience a feeling of change/disappointment). As
the keys turns, the engine revs, and all is black. This
ends the scene.

EXT. MARIO HELLMAN - NIGHT

So the audience doesn't get bored with the
"car-driving-up-driveway" business, the angle is going to
start inside the house like the he's already driven up. Now
he's introducing himself. We have a camera-full image of a
Police Badge.

40.

                       THOMAS
Thomas Wilson, detective on the
Luke Mason case. I'd like to ask
you a few questions if I may.

MARIO (ALWAYS IN A SLIGHT ITALIAN ACCENT)
Well, sure.

                       THOMAS
I've dug up some juice from Jerry
Furson, word is your not into the
whole bank idea. Now why would
anyone be against such a stupid
thing like that?

                       MARIO
You see Thomas that's really
funny! How dare you accuse me of
such a crime, if you will. I was
not against it, Jerry lied and I
have no idea why.

Thomas shoots Mario a strange look.

                       THOMAS
Don't you lie to me Mr. Hellman. I
know more than you think. Jerry
is good! He's talented!

                       MARIO
But what does that have anything
to do with being trustworthy? He
lied I'm telling you. And if you
need my opinion I say Jerry's bad!
I never liked him.

                       THOMAS (SARCASTICALLY)
A story I'm likely to believe.

                       MARIO
Well aren't ya? What's that
judicial crap
thing...uh...reasonable doubt?
Isn't there reasonable doubt? And
as a detective, as a detective,
you're supposed to take my story
            (MORE)

41.

                       MARIO (cont'd)
into consideration. If not I
could rip that badge off so quick.
Ask around about Jerry, his
neighbors or something if you
don't believe me. They'd agree
with me I almost assure you. Or
are you so top-notch that you can
just assume his best friend did it
and arrest him? That's right!
Best friend! If you think I would
go so far as to kill your wrong, I
wouldn't even hurt him. And he
wouldn't hurt anyone. Damn you,
Thomas, damn you. Damn you for
blaming me and trusting him. Now
I'm not saying to trust me, but
just ask around about him and you
may get a different perspective.
Ask around about me if you like.
I'm sure it'd be a little more
positive.

                       THOMAS
Those are quite some words, and I
will ask around because I don't
trust you. Goodbye Mario, have a
goodnight.

The door shuts and as it does the scene comes to a close.
There is no view of him leaving.

INT. THE DATE WITH HOLLY - NIGHT

Thomas walks into a firmiliar place, The Midnight Pub, he
gives a look of disgust as he enters. But he continues and
spots Holly, who is dozing off.

                       THOMAS
I'm late I know.

                       HOLLY
I've just met you once I don't
really care.

42.

                       THOMAS
Sure ya care! It's a date.

Holly sort of wakes up at that word and smiles at him.

                       HOLLY (HAPPIER)
How's the...case?

                       THOMAS
Decently, nothing exciting yet.

                       HOLLY
I find that hard to believe.
You've found me.

Thomas gives a laugh of enjoyment and he gives her a happy
look. CAMERA CHANGE to her face, and you see her have a
happy look on her face.

CUT TO: ICE CREAM

The 2 lovebirds are seen receiving ice cream at the local
ice cream place. As the camera zooms out, the words CARVEL
appear. They walk out talking.

                       THOMAS
Great dinner. Great ice cream.
(puts his arm around her) Great
gal.

                       HOLLY
Better guy.

She gives him a hug and the hug is seen getting tighter.
Thomas looks suprised but starts hugging back. Slowly they
start rocking a little and start cuddling standing up.

INT. HOLLY'S HOUSE AGAIN - NIGHT

They walk into Holly's house laughing their heads off. We
want the idea that they had a good time.

                       THOMAS
Great time!

43.

                       HOLLY
Yes! God I love how you treat
girls, Thomas. You're quite the
man, and I honestly believe I'm
starting to like you quite a lot.

                       THOMAS
Well I must say you, too! You're
ve-

He's interrupted by her kissing him. He (with delight)
starts kissing her back. This scene lasts for about 5
seconds.

CUT TO: THE COUCH

He lays her down to the couch and as their lips part, both
of them go into an immediate smile.

                       THOMAS
And I love how you treat boys.

He's goes in again, and she accepts in whole-heartedly. This
view lasts for about 5 seconds with the whole scene getting
"hot", they obviously like each other and it shows.

EXT. LEAVING - DAY

Thomas is seen exiting a door but quietly, like it quiet
inside. But once he shuts the door, he jumps for joy. He
slowly goes down to his car and gets in slowly. But before
he can take off, his phone rings. He looks at his cell.

                       THOMAS
Gerald.

He presses a button on his phone. Then holds it to his ear.

                       THOMAS
Hello Gerald. (Pause) Well Mario
gave me interesting info involving
Jerry, I am going to take what he
said into consideration and ask
around about Jerry a little more,
like his neighbors. (Pause) Now
            (MORE)

44.

                       THOMAS (cont'd)
I know this is the Luke Mason case
but this may help. (Pause) Fine.
Bye. (Laughing) Yes, I had a
great night.

He drives off while in the background we see Holly peek out
of her door. He smiles brightly and then closes it.

EXT. TO VIKKI'S - DAY

We see Thomas drive by Jerry's, as he drives by he doesn't
look at it and continues driving.

CUT TO: VIKKI'S FRONT DOOR

We are now facing Thomas's back and the door in front of
him. The door opens.

                       VIKKI
Hi?

                       THOMAS
I'll introduce myself in a sec.
What's your name?

                       VIKKI (ANNOYED)
I's very early. 8 o'clock.

                       THOMAS
I'm sorry, what's your name?

                       VIKKI
Vikki Wong, geez i's very early.

                       THOMAS
I know, I am sorry. May I come
in?

                       VIKKI (DISBELIEF)
Oh geez, I don't know your name.
Silly person...so early.

45.

                       THOMAS
Thomas Wilson, you've probably
heard of me. I'm on the Luke
Mason case.

                       VIKKI
I dunno you. Whatever, if you
detective then you welcome in I
suppose.

He walks in and takes off his coat that he was wearing and
throws it on the floor. Vikki gives a look a of disgust and
frustration and then anger as he proceeds into her house
unsupervised.

                       VIKKI (DESPERATE)
Oh geez, just sit please, do not
wonder.

Thomas takes a seat and then pulls out his classic pad.

                       THOMAS
Believe it or not, I'm here to ask
about your neighbor Jerry Furson.
Mario Hellman, a few houses down,
told me to ask about Jerry and I
took his advice, just in case. So,
tell me what you know about Jerry.

                       VIKKI
Well I don't know Jerry very well
I fear. But if it's one thing I
know it's that he is a very avid
gardener! Non-stop, all day, when
he's not working. He had client
come over a month ago, even while
client was here he was gardening,
while talking. Then only a couple
days ago, as soon as another
client left, he worked on his
garden. Even before he came. He
does it a lot, and he can afford
it.

                       THOMAS
Is that all you know about him?

46.

                       VIKKI
Really, yes...I don't really talk
to him but (quick) don't trust him
that much so I keep a close eye on
him.

Very quickly afterward...

                       THOMAS
Great thanks. Oh, one more thing,
is he really as talented as people
say?

                       VIKKI
Ahhhh, yes! Quite.

                       THOMAS
Thank you for everything.

                       VIKKI
Anytime detective. I'll answer
any "q" for you. But please,
(serious) not as early. Not 8
o'clock.

Thomas gives a nod and walks outside. Then, his cell phone
rings. **CAMERA CHANGE** We are now outside. He picks up
his cell.

                       THOMAS
Y'ello. (Pause) Oh Gerald,
bringer of inf-WHAT? (Pause) He
has? Is it too late? (Pause) It
is? Oh great. (Pause) Yes he
was one of my main suspects.

He hangs up and jumps into his car. But as he does he sits
and thinks. Then voice-overs enter his mind of what past
people of said until it's a circle of confusion, such things
are "avid gardener", "don't trust him", "I keep a close
eye", "ask around!", "after a client a couple days ago",
"talented architect". He finally dashes out of his car and
without permission runs over to Jerry's house and starts
digging up his garden. He finds nothing (but make sure he
leaves a part he didn't dig up for later, important) and
then replaces the dirt and runs back over to his car.

47.

INT. THE POLICE STATION - DAY

Thomas walks in to the police station and just walks into
Gerald's room with dirty clothes. Gerald, who is with a
person, sees Thomas and nods the extra out.

                       GERALD
Hey ya ass! I was workin' her'!
What dya want? You haven't been
here in days...ya chum.

                       THOMAS
Awhile back you said you had
Margina's number, I believe. Well,
I've known who Margina is for
awhile now and I want to contact
her.

Gerald gets up and walks over to Thomas.

                       GERALD
Ya can use the phone here. Da
number is by the phone. Just look
fer Mason, Margina.

To Thomas, Gerald's actions seemed a little strange, so he
has a very slight look of confusion on his face.

                       THOMAS (PICKING UP THE PHONE)
Thanks Gerald.

Thomas dials the number after searching through the papers
and finding her name.

                       THOMAS
Margina. This is Thomas Wilson,
detective on the Luke Mason case.

                       MARGINA (OVER PHONE)
Oh of course. I've heard, what is
your reason calling?

                       THOMAS
To ask a few questions.

48.

                       MARGINA (OVER PHONE)
Oh, let me start off by saying I
didn't do it. I left a week
before he was actually murdered.
We were having some marriage
problems, we were getting a
divorce.

                       THOMAS
But still, one can't be sure.
Where are you now?

                       MARGINA
Massachusetts with friends. I
used to live here.

                       THOMAS
Are you going to live there?

                       MARGINA
I would hope so. I really do love
it here, I've always wanted to
move.

                       THOMAS
What reason would one have to kill
Luke?

                       MARGINA
A lot of the time he simply was
hard to be with, making crude
comments, and annoying jokes,
didn't really care and was sort of
focused on himself.

                       THOMAS
Thank you Margina.

Gerald, who's been listening in the whole time, finally
peeps up.

                       GERALD
Well, quite a lady, I've met her
before actually. What'd you
think?

49.

                       THOMAS
I really don't like what she said.
She's always wanted to move, she
said she went away a week before
the murder and across the country,
as soon as I spoke she stated
clearly she didn't do it, and when
I asked why someone would kill
Luke, she gave answers!

                       GERALD (TRYING TO ACT SMART)
Oh yes...peculiar...very.

                       THOMAS
Gerald, I think I'm gonna take the
day off. I need a break.

                       GERALD (HIGH VOICE)
You wanna take a break while there
is a killer out there? A murderer
who may be meticulously planning
the murder of his next victim, who
wants to fool all detectives in
his own crafty ways and get what
he wants out of his deed? And you
wanna take a break when that son
of bitch is as loose as my
puddin'?

                       THOMAS (QUICKLY AFTER AND SERIOUS)
Yes.

                       GERALD (QUICKLY AND SERIOUS)
Fine.

                       THOMAS
I'm gonna walk, it's a great day
out.

Thomas exits Gerald's precsence and Gerald looks on. As
soon as Thomas leaves, he laughs to himself.

50.

EXT. OUTSIDE THE POLICE STATION - DAY

Thomas walks out of the police station as breathes in the
nice crisp air.

EXT. WALKING - DAY

This is another view of Thomas walking. It's a side-view
and he's fast paced.

EXT. CONTINUATION WALKING - DAY

This is another view of Thomas walking. Even faster paced
then last.

EXT. LAST WALKING VIEW - DAY

This is yet another view of Thomas walking. He is even
faster paced than last time.

EXT. HOLLY'S HOUSE - DAY

Finally we see why he was walking fast, here is Holly's
house. He comes into view running, which is even faster
than the last time. He walks up to the door and knocks. The
door opens and Holly appears. She smiles at the sight a
lets him in.

CUT TO: INSIDE THE HOUSE

                       HOLLY
What're you here for?

                       THOMAS
Have the rest of the day off. And
where else would I go?

                       HOLLY
Detectives have days off, even
when the murdere-

51.

She is cut off by Thomas shushing her. He puts his index
finger her lips, she immediately stops what she is saying.
There is no hesitation.

                       THOMAS (AFTER AN ERIE SILENCE)
Lunch? Want to go somewhere?

                       HOLLY
I don't mind.

They exit Holly's house. Then Holly, like it's nothing
grabs Thomas's hand. Thomas acts like it's nothing, or at
least tries to, but he can't help but glance at the
hand-lock.

EXT. SERIES OF SHOTS - DAY

The following is going to be a series of shots of Thomas and
Holly together. We do not want to bore the audience with
their small chat and so on. But we want the idea that
they're really starting to like each other. Such shots
could include laughing, arms around each other, hugging, and
basically being close together.

EXT. HOLLY'S HOUSE, END OF DAY - NIGHT

The sun is setting and it could be considered nighttime now
as Holly and Thomas arrive at the doorstep. Holly gives him
hug.

                       HOLLY
The best you could do for a woman
is to hug her back.

He kisses her.

                       HOLLY
Better.

                       THOMAS
Goodnight.

                       HOLLY
Bye.

52.

As he leaves we have a close-up of Holly. She places her
hands in her back jean pockets, if she has no pockets, she
places her hands on the back rim of the jeans. She seems
uneasy, either that or excessively happy because of her foot
movement, there's a lot of it.

INT. THE HOTEL ROOM - DAY

As we look at Thomas laying in bed, words appear at the
bottom of the screen that say "THE NEXT DAY", this is
supposed to have a hidden signifigance, today is going to be
a very important day. Thomas gets up and sits on the side
of the bed, he is in deep thought.

                       THOMAS (DEEP THOUGHT)
Stuck. I'm stuck.

He keeps getting up and takes a drink of water which is
uneasy in his mouth. In an odd notion, he starts drawing
with his finger in mid-air, like solving a math problem. He
is muttering to himself.

                       THOMAS (FRUSTRATED)
So it must be Mario! Or Jerry. Or
Margina, or Mike, or...

He slams his hand against something. He pulls back in pain.
Suddenly the phone rings.

                       THOMAS (PICKING UP THE PHONE)
Yes, Gerald. (pause) Great, be
there in a sec.

Thomas finishes up changing quickly now. He takes another
sip of water and dashes out, NOTE...he doesn't take his
notepad with him.

FADE OUT.

From Giancarlos Calderon Date 3/14/2006 ****
That is a nice script for writing it at 12 years old! I've been writing some poems since I was 12 and started writing books when I was 15. I made a screenplay based on a book I wrote when I was 18. It's called Young Hearts of Love. A musical drama. I forgot the rest of the other music in the screenplay. And I made a Voltron screenplay, I hope you enjoy it.

From Chrissy M. Date 6/23/2005 ****
That's pretty good for writing it at 12! I'm 13, so it's good to know someone almost my age can write a good screenplay. I think you should update it a little bit and pick up on it if you want to.
