FADE IN:

INT. POLICE STATION - DAY

Camera pans over the pictures of 4 girls.

                       AMY (V/O)
I wish to fade
Into the blue sky
Where I know
A place to fly

                       SHANNON (V/O)
To dispaear
In thin air
Fuck this world
It's not fair

                       JO (V/O)
It's great to fly
Having fun
Releasing the fear
Which I have done

                       BETH (V/O)
The breeze to feel
No more thinking
To know I'm safe
No more of that picking

                       AMY (V/O)
The sky so bright
Fly to the sun

                       SHANNON (V/O)
And fly back
I hope I won

                       JO (V/O)
I hope to appear one day
To my favourite place

                       BETH (V/O)
Wondering if anyone cares
If that's the case

                       ALL (V/O)
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep

2.

                       AMY (V/O)
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints in snow

                       SHANNON (V/O)
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain

                       JO (V/O)
When you awake in the morning hush
I am the sweet uplifting rush

                       BETH (V/O)
Of quiet birds in circle flight
I am the sunlight that shines at
night

                       ALL (V/O)
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die

You can have some friends over if

                       AMY
No, I've got a few bits and bobs
to do.

                       LYNNE
Alright love.

Lynne leaves. Amy walks back into her bedroom, picks up a
photo of Jessica. Stares at it for a moment before

                       CHLOE

                       SHANNON
He'll get over it. he should stop

It's taken me long enough.

5.

                       LUCY

Yeah, I think so. No. I'm sure
I've got it.

                       LUCY
That's right, think positive: when
you hand it in you'll get an A.

                       JO
Well I am wearing my lucky
bracelet.

                       LUCY

                       JO

                       JO
it always works.

                       LUCY
What really works is positive
thinking. If you think you can do
it you can. Simple. And it's not
as ugly.

                       JO
It's not ugly. Well, it's not
that ugly.

                       LUCY
Please tell me your not going to
wear that tonight. What is Mr.
Rich going to think about that?

                       JO
His name's Adam.

                       LUCY
I don't care what his name is,
he's going to - die when he sees
it.

                       KEVIN
You're not convincing me at all

                       AMY
Well, it's true.

                       KEVIN

                       AMY
That's the idea.

                       KEVIN

your suitcase? No, just kidding.
It'll do you good.

                       KEVIN
I hope she gets her payrise or
promotion or whatever it is she's
after.

                       JEMMA
I know, it's like would you sleep
with Ms Kiveton just so you could
move up the ladder?

                       KEVIN
Think I'd rather sleep with Mr
Brown. he's got more power. And,
less of a moustache.

                       JEMMA
It's sick. it's so wrong. Ugh!

                       KEVIN
Better get moving, old Dragonface
herself is making her way over.
See you at lunch yeah?

                       AMY
Yeah. See you later.

                       SHANNON

                       ANTHONY
So young yet so cynical.

                       SHANNON

slamming it shut she puts her head down in mock despair.

                       JO
I give up!

Sheffield.

                       JO
Well, he is loaded.

                       MELANIE
I am so jealous!

                       JO
I know. I can't wait.

                       LUCY
He's going to wine you and dine
you.

                       MELANIE
69 you.

                       LUCY
Trust Mel to lower the tone.

                       MELANIE
He's going to whisk you off to
Paris to buy you diamond rings.

                       LUCY
Take you to New York just to buy
you a new dress.

                       MELANIE
On his private jet.

                       JO
Lets not get carried away. he's
not that rich.

                       MELANIE
He's a self made millionaire.
Well,almost.

                       JO
And he wants to go out with me.

                       LUCY
I would give anything to be in
your place tonight.

                       JO
You've got Paul.

15.

                       LUCY
Yeah and I love him to bits, I do,
but...No, only joking.

                       MELANIE
I'm single.

                       JO
What about Gary?

                       MELANIE
What about him? He's a two faced,
cheating liar.

                       LUCY
What's he done now?

                       MELANIE
Nothing. That's the problem. He
just won't sleep with me.
Everyting was fine and then - bam.
Nothing. I thougt he was just
eing a gentleman but, no. Nothing.

                       JO
Maybe he's just shy.

                       MELANIE
Maybe he's just a man.

                       LUCY
When did you get so bitter?

                       MELANIE
It's just life. C'est la vie.

INT. BETH'S FLAT - DAY

Beth is tidying around the flat. She sings along with the
cd player.

                       BETH
      (out of tune.)
Don't speak, I know just what
you're saying, so please stop
explaining, don't tell me 'cause
it hurts.

There is a knock at the door. beth answers it. It's
ALISON, her mum. She is dressed casually in leggings and a
jumper. her hair is tied loosely in a ponytail. She greets

16.

Beth with a big hug before patting her stomach.

                       ALISON
Hows my favourite little
grand-daughter today?

                       BETH
She's feeling lively. Want a
drink?

                       ALISON
I could kill for a coffee.

                       BETH
There are some biscuits in that
cupboard. Top right hand side.

                       ALISON
Has he gone to work alright?

                       BETH
He's fine.

                       ALISON
I'll never know what you see in
him.

                       BETH
Don't start that agin mum. I
don't want an argument.

                       ALISON
I'm not starting anything. I was
only saying, that's all. You're
old enough to make your own
decisions. Anyway, what you
buying?

                       BETH
I've seen the cutest little suit.
It's pink with this embroidery
here. I'll have to show it to
you.

                       ALISON
Have you ordered the pram yet?

                       BETH
Yeah. I ordered the green one. It
looks stronger.

17.

                       ALISON
I should really cut down on the
chocolate biscuits.

                       BETH
One won't harm.

                       ALISON
I never stop at one though do I?

                       BETH
I know. tell me about it. I'm
going to have to work hard to get
back in shape when I've had Laila.
I've been eating for ten.

                       ALISON
You should have seen me just after
I'd had you. Peole were still
asking when you were due when you
were 6 months old.

                       BETH
And look at you now.

                       ALISON
Hardly put on an ounce when I had
Jenny. I was sure there was
something wrong with her.

                       BETH
There is. it's called an attitude
problem.

                       ALISON
You don't even know her latest
trick.

                       BETH
Why what's she done?

                       ALISON
Y'know the lad she's been seeing?

                       BETH
Craig?

                       ALISON
Yeah. Craig. She stayed at his on
Friday night. Never even let me
know where she was. I mean, I'm
not naive, I know she's having sex
but she could at least let me know
            (MORE)

18.

                       ALISON (cont'd)
she's ok.

                       BETH
She's just being 16. Thinks she
knows best.

                       ALISON
You never did that.

                       BETH
I was with Aaron when I was 16.

                       MELANIE
I hope to God she doesn't marry
him.

                       BETH
It'll all be fine.

                       ALISON
You've got all this to come with
Laila. She might look cute when
she's born, but in 16 years time
you'll be sat up all night
worrying about what she's getting
up to.

INT. SANDWICH SHOP - DAY

Amy, Kevin and Jemma are queuing in a sandwich shop.

12.00pm flashes across the screen.

                       KEVIN
I'm going to have a chicken
supreme melt I think. Or maybe
bacon.

                       LUCY
I'm sticking with my tuna salad.

                       KEVIN
I'll have chicken. What you
having Ames?

                       AMY
I think I'll have cheese and
tomato.

                       KEVIN
Good choice.

19.

                       JEMMA
Those doughnuts look nice.

                       KEVIN
Have one then.

                       JEMMA
Do you know how many calories are
in one of those?

                       KEVIN
Women. Just eat. Enjoy. Who
cares?

                       JEMMA
You would if you were a girl.

                       KEVIN
Men don't even like skinny girls.
We like something to hold on to.

                       JEMMA
Like 20 pounds of excess fat?

                       KEVIN
To be honest, I couldn't care
less. Life's too short to worry
about trivial stuff like that.
Enjoy it while you're here.

                       JEMMA
I wouldn't enjoy being fat.

                       KEVIN
One doughnut will not make you
fat.

                       JEMMA
No but I'd feel bloated.

                       KEVIN
Don't eat one then.

                       JEMMA
I'm not.

                       KEVIN
Shut up about it then. You having
one Ames?

                       AMY
No.

20.

                       KEVIN
Don't want to share one?

                       AMY
If you're having one anyway.

                       KEVIN
i think I might treat myself to a
caramel doughnut with chocolate
sprinkles.

                       SERVER
Who's next please?

                       JEMMA
I'll havea tuna salad on brown and
a bottle of mineral water please.

                       SERVER
On it's way.

                       KEVIN
You ok? You seem quiet?

                       AMY
I'm fine. I'm just getting a
headache.

                       KEVIN
I've got some paracetamol in my
desk. I'll give you a couple when
we get back.

                       AMY
Thanks.

                       SERVER
That's 4.80 please. Thanks. next
please.

                       KEVIN
I'll have a chicken supreme melt,
a caramel doughnut and a coke
please mate.

                       SERVER
White or brown?

                       KEVIN
White.

Amy stands staring out of the window. A look of shock
crosses her face.

21.

Amy's POV. We see Jessica, the girl from the photograph,
walking towards us smiling. She stares straight at us and
laughs.

                       AMY
Oh my God!

                       JEMMA
What's up?

Amy runs from the shop. Jessica is gone. She is breathing
heavily. Closes her eyes.

                       AMY
      (whisper)
Jessie.

                       JEMMA
Are you alright?

                       AMY
Yeah. I'm fine.

                       JEMMA
You sure?

                       AMY
Yeah. it's just..It's nothing.
I'm fine.

                       KEVIN
What happened there?

                       AMY
Nothing. It's fine.

                       JEMMA
She's not feeling too well. Maybe
we should sit down.

                       KEVIN
Not getting anything to eat?

                       AMY
I'm not really that hungry.

                       KEVIN
Sure?

                       AMY
      (Nods)
Yeah.

22.

                       KEVIN
Here have a drink at least.
      (passes her bottle)

                       AMY
Thanks.

                       JEMMA
Don't scare me like that girl. I
thought you were going to pass out
or something. You still look
pale.

                       AMY
I'm fine. Honest. I just need to
get away.

                       JEMMA
Don't we all.

INT. BAR - DAY

A busy bar/restaurant. KELLY, 22, unruly red hair, stands
behind the counter slicing lemons.Shannon runs in.

                       SHANNON
Hey Kel. Sorry I'm late. Where's
Maggie?

                       KELLY
Wholesalers.

                       SHANNON
Thank fuck for that.

                       KELLY
You are one lucky girl Shannon
Ford. You're lucky you've still
got a job.

                       SHANNON
That's the old Ford charm.

                       KELLY
Yeah whatever you say. Did you
tell Ant about that stuff?

                       SHANNON
Yeah. He's got the money for it.
He'll be around about 5.00pm.

23.

                       KELLY
It's some good shit he's got. From
this man called Richard. A total
bargain too.

                       SHANNON
Cool. You out tonight?

                       KELLY
I think so. gaz has got some
stuff to do. Some 'business'. We
should be out after.

                       SHANNON
Come round ours. We've got plenty
of vodka and JD to go around.
We're on a mission to get as
wasted as possible.

                       KELLY
Might do. I'll phone you. I'll
have to see what gaz says. He
might have made plans.

                       SHANNON
Ok. You'd best come out though.

                       KELLY
Need to make some dollar though.

                       SHANNON
Best smiles at the ready.
      (smiles broadly)

                       KELLY
Not like that. You'll scare off
the customers.

                       SHANNON
It feels so fake. They know I
couldn't give a shit whether they
have a nice meal or whether they
enjoy their day.

                       KELLY
But kiss there arses and make them
feel special and they'll throw
their money at you.

                       SHANNON
I don't get why customers are such
nobheads though.

24.

                       KELLY
You couldn't buy your blow without
them.

                       SHANNON
Yeah. And like Mags says 'The
customer isn't always right, but
you'll never win an argument with
one.'

                       KELLY
Never a truer word spoken. Anyway
being nice really pisses some of
them off. They seem to like bad
food and bad service. Like they
get some perverse pleasure out of
complaining.

                       SHANNON
So we carry on smiling.

                       KELLY
Yep. Life's a bitch.

                       SHANNON
I need coffee. can't believe how
fucked up we were last night.

                       KELLY
Fun though.

                       SHANNON
Yeah.

                       KELLY
How's Chloe?

                       SHANNON
Asleep when I left.

                       KELLY
What I wouldn't give to still be
in bed now.

                       SHANNON
Tell me about it. I wish my daddy
was rich so I didn't have to work
here. Imagine that.

                       KELLY
Would you really want to be a
spoilt little rich brat who got
handed everything on a plate. Who
didn't know the value of money.

25.

                       KELLY (cont'd)
Who is a bitch toeveryone. Who
people only pretend to like
because her daddy's loaded?

                       SHANNON
Sounds like fucking heaven.

                       KELLY
Yeah I know.

                       SHANNON
Who wouldn't want to be a spoilt
little rich girl?

Jo and Lucy enter and sit down near the window.

                       KELLY
Right on cue. You going or shall
I?

                       SHANNON
I'm there.

Shannon grabs a notepad and walks over to the table.

                       SHANNON (cont'd)
Hi. Can i get you anything to
drink while you're looking at the
menus?

                       LUCY
Can I have a sparkling water
please?

                       JO
I'll just have a diet coke please.

                       SHANNON
I'll bring them straight over.

Shannon walks back over to the counter.

                       SHANNON
Sparkling water and a diet coke.

                       KELLY
Check out the blonde. What would
you give to look like that?

                       SHANNON
I'd do her. Pass us a straw.

26.

Shannon takes the drinks and walks over to the table.

                       SHANNON
Okay. I have a sparkling water
and a diet coke. Are you both
ready to order?

                       LUCY
We'll have two chicken salads. One
plain, one with thousand island
dressing please.

                       SHANNON
Is that everything?

                       LUCY
Yes thanks.

Shannon leaves. We see her in the background talking and
laughing with Kelly.

                       LUCY
Decided what you're going to wear
yet?

                       JO
Still trousers. Don't really want
to wear a skirt. He might get the
wrong idea.

                       LUCY
I wore a skirt for my first date
with Paul.

                       JO
That's different. You were only
17 then.

                       LUCY
Get your legs out. Show him
what's in store next time.

                       JO
Or the time after.

                       LUCY
Still keeping to your third date
rule. Even with Dan the man?

                       JO
I'm just a girl with morals.

27.

                       LUCY
He won't think any less of you.

                       JO
If he's worth anything, he'll wait
for me.

                       LUCY
I'm not saying he won't, it just
canyou hold off. I mean, he's
gorgeous.

                       JO
A little discipline never hurt
anyone.

                       LUCY
Tell that to Mel.

                       JO
Each to their own. I'm not about
to start preaching to anyone. It's
just my opinion.

                       LUCY
So each time things start to get
heated ...

                       JO
...I'll think of Jason.

                       LUCY
That's just cruel.

                       JO
Cruel. But true.

Kelly carries over two plates, and places them on the table.

                       KELLY
The plain chicken salad.

                       LUCY
That's mine.

                       KELLY
And the chcken salad with thousand
island.

                       JO
Thanks.

28.

                       KELLY
Can I get you anything else? Any
sauces or any more drinks or?

                       LUCY
No that's it.

                       KELLY
Okay. Enjoy your meals.

We follow Kelly back to the counter.

                       SHANNON
Uh-oh. Trouble at 11 o' clock.
      (nods towards the
       door.)
Mrs. Duncan.

                       KELLY
Were you in last week when she
came in going on about how this
place has gone down hill since
Elvis died!

                       SHANNON
The woman's nuts.

                       KELLY
And she was wearing all these
jewels and pearls.

                       SHANNON
Real?

                       KELLY
Wouldn't be surprised actually.

                       SHANNON
Fuck.

                       KELLY
Mags asked why she was all dolled
up, and she was - red lipstick,
her best dress - and she turns
round and goes 'Why, I'm meeting
the Queen for lunch dear.'

                       SHANNON
Bless her. Just think we culd end
up like that one day.

29.

                       KELLY
Must be lovely in her world. Wish
I could escape there.

                       SHANNON
I already do.

                       KELLY
The usual Mrs Duncan?

                       MRS DUNCAN
Ooh, yes please Kelly love. Hello
Sharon.

                       SHANNON
Hello. Mrs Duncan.

INT. AMY'S HOUSE - DAY

5.00pm flashes across the screen.

Amy has just got in from work. We follow her upstairs. She
sits on her bed and pulls out a scrapbook. We see it is
full of photographs of Jessica. As she flicks through the
book, we come to newspaper cuttings, '21 year old Jessica
dies in tragic accident.'
Amy's eyes fill with tears.

                       AMY
      (whisper)
I'm sorry Jess. I'm sorry.

There is a knock at the door.

                       AMY
      (Wiping eyes)
Yeah?

                       LYNNE (O.S)
It's only me Ames.
      (entering)
How was your day?

                       AMY
Y'know. Same old.

                       LYNNE
We're off to Jill's in a minute.
I've left some chicken in the
fridge if you want. Just pop it
in the oven for 30 minutes with
some potatoes or chips or...

30.

                       AMY
      (smiles)
...I think I'll manage mum!

                       LYNNE
Ok. I'm sure you will. Now, do
you think I should wear my black
dress or is that too much?
Angela's going to be there and...

                       AMY
I like your black dress. Just
dress it down a bit.

                       LYNNE
You think? It's either that or my
blue dress. Y'know the one with
the embroidery?

                       AMY
Black. Definitely black.

                       LYNNE
Ok. If you're sure it's not too
dressy for dinner.

                       AMY
Nope. You'll look amazing.
Angela'll look nothing next to
you.

                       LYNNE
      (unsure)
Ok.

                       AMY
I mean it mum.

                       LYNNE
Alright.
      (leaving)
Best get moving.

Amy picks up the scrapbook again. We focus on a picture
taken less than a year ago. Amy and Jessica are at a party
and look really happy. We see her face, she cries silently.

INT. SHANNON'S FLAT - DAY

                       CHLOE

                       SHANNON

                       CHLOE
She's really pissed off thet
you've not been round in ages.
      (mocking)
'Have I still got a daughter or
has she dropped off the face of
the Earth?'

                       SHANNON
She'll get over it. I'll go
tommorow.

                       CHLOE
Least my mum just gives me money
and then leaves me to get on with
it.

                       SHANNON
I'm starving. We got anything in?

                       CHLOE
Doubt it. lets order in.

                       SHANNON
I'm skint.

                       CHLOE
I'll treat you. I really can't be
arsed with cooking anything.

                       SHANNON
Not even beans on toast.

32.

                       CHLOE
Not even beans on toast. Pizza or
Chinese?

                       SHANNON
You choose. Don't mind so long as
it's bad for me.

                       CHLOE
Chinese it is then. Usual?

                       SHANNON
Yeah. With extra rice. And
chips.

                       CHLOE

                       LUCY
Are you hungry?

                       JO
Not really.

                       LUCY
You shold really eat. The alcohol
will go straight to your head.
Getting drunk isn't a good first
date look.

                       JO
I'll just grab some toast.

                       LUCY
Toast? You need something more
substantial than that. Or do you
want him to see you with your head
down the toilet. With vomit all
down your top.

33.

                       JO
You sound like my mother.

                       LUCY
Your mother makes sense.
      (laughs)
Seriously though Jo. I'm making
pasta, even if you just have a bit

                       JO

Could be better. Too much dialogue and not much written action makes it not very interesting to follow, and the writing is kind of ambiguous. A lot of punctuation errors. A good concept, but falls short.
