SUBLIME (WIP)
FADE IN:
INT. WHITE BLAND OFFICE - DAY |
Hunter is sitting in a cubicle. He stares at a computer
screen with a blank face. He starts to sweat, the drops
beading down his forehead. His fists clench on the mouse and
keyboard, he lifts his head and screams. An alarm is heard,
Hunter sits up in bed, stretches, and looks at the clock |
Hunter jumps out of bed into his morning routine. He starts
the coffee, takes a shower, brushes his teeth, gets dressed,
grabs a cup of coffee and runs out the door hurriedly. |
INT. BUMPER TO BUMPER HIGHWAY TRAFFIC - DAY |
Hunter is at a dead stop in traffic. A big city can be seen
in the foreground. Hunter is very anxious at the wheel. He
is jittery and keeps looking at the clock mumbling. He takes
a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket with a shaking hand,
and lights one. This calms him down some, but he is still
visibly worried. |
HUNTER
(talking to the
cars ahead)
Come on... COME ON! |
Hunter still at a dead stop slams on his horn. The truck's
door infront of him opens slowly. A large man gets out and
walks over to Hunter's car. Hunter shuts the windows fast
and locks his doors. The man starts banging on Hunter's
window. |
MAN 1
Does it look like I can fucking
move? |
HUNTER
(under his breath)
Get back in your car jackass |
MAN 1
What the hell did you say to me? |
2.
The large man goes and tries to open the door. He finds it's
locked. |
MAN 1
Why don't you come out here and
say that to my face! |
HUNTER
(under his breath)
Get back in your car and drag your
fat ass to wherever you are going. |
MAN 1
What the hell did you just say to
me? |
HUNTER
(sarcasticlly)
I said I'm ever so sorry sir. |
The man walks back to his truck, opens up the bed, and pulls
out a golf club. |
HUNTER
What the hell are you doing man? I
don't want any trouble. |
The man walks to the back of Hunter's car. Traffic starts to
move, but Hunter is stuck behind the big man's truck. |
MAN 1
You picked the wrong person to
fuck with! |
The man swings the club down and smashes Hunter's rear
window. |
The man runs back to his truck and screeches off. Hunter
gets out looks at the damage gets back in and drives off
cursing under his breath. |
INT. PARKING GARAGE - DAY |

of the back of his car and runs to the building opposite the
garage that reads "The Law Offices of Johnson and Sons." |

INT. OFFICE CUBICLE - DAY |
Hunter is sitting at his desk with a worried look on his
face. He looks above his cubicle and sees his boss coming
toward him, with another young man next to him. |
HUNTER
(quietly)
shit shit shit shit shit |
Hunter quickly grabs a folder and pages through it trying to
look busy. Hunter's boss and the young man walk up |
BOSS
Mr. Williams. You were late again
today. Remember what I said would
happen if you were late again?
With the addition of today you
have been at least an hour late
every day this week. This is
Scott, he will be your
replacement. I want you to show
him the ropes and be out of my
sight by the end of the day. |
HUNTER
Sir please I can explain. The
highway was packed this morning,
some asshole broke out my back
window with a nine iron... |
BOSS
Mr. Williams, that will be enough.
For these past couple weeks
everything that has come out of
your mouth has been excuses. Now
please show Scott the ropes and
get out. |
Hunter reaches slowly under his desk. He pulls out a 12
gauge shotgun and points it at his boss. |
HUNTER
There is no need to fire me Sir. I
have my resignation right here. |
Hunter pulls the trigger and blows his boss against the
wall, then turns the gun on the now crying intern. |
HUNTER
God I hate interns. |
Hunter pulls the trigger again. |
4.
BOSS
Mr. Williams? Mr. Williams, are
you even paying attention to me?
This is the kind of behavior that
puts you in these positions. |
HUNTER
I'm sorry sir. I will start
packing now. |
INT. OFFICE CUBICLE - NIGHT |
Hunter has a box on his desk and is packing everything from
his office. He puts files, office supplies and pictures in
the box. As he is putting away one picture, he stops and
looks at it. It is a picture of a little girl, and a young
woman. He sits down starring at the picture. |
Hunter puts the picture away after looking at it for a few
seconds and closes the box. He gets up and walks away. |
INT. EMPTY HOUSE - NIGHT |
Hunter is sitting in a chair with a glass in his hand. Pills
are strewn across the table along with the picture that
Hunter was looking at of his ex-wife and Hailey. Hunter
seems very out of sorts, and soon the glass falls from his
hand and breaks on the floor. A slowing heartbeat is heard. |
Hunter is standing in front of his wife and Hailey with a
camera |
HAILEY
Come on daddy take the picture |
Jennifer gets out of her pose for the shot and walks over to
Hunter |
JENNIFER
What's wrong honey? |
Hailey walks up to Hunter also |
5.
HUNTER
I love you too sweetheart |
Jennifer picks up Hailey, turns around and starts to walk
away. All of a sudden Hunter finds himself in a courtroom,
holding the picture of Hailey and his wife. Hailey starts to
cry and reach out towards Hunter |
A phone starts ringing |
INT. HUNTER'S HOUSE - DAY |
Hunter answers the phone flustered. |
BANK MAN
Hello may I speak to Hunter
Williams please? |
HUNTER
This is he, may I ask who's
calling? |
BANK MAN
Sir this is Johnathan Wood from
Fifth Third, I am calling
concerning your loan payments for
this month. Accoring to my
records, you still owe us two
thousand and seventy five dollars. |
HUNTER
(groggy)
Yeah yeah. Umm I am in a bit of a
monetary jam right now. |
BANK MAN
I am sorry sir, but I am in a jam
also. The money either needs to be
in my hands by the end of the
week, or we will have to
foreclose. |
Hunter takes the phone away from his ear and sets it down
slowly. |
6.
INT. GAS STATION - DAY |

HUNTER
A pack of Camel filters and your

CASHIER

Hunter hands the man a twenty and three quarters. He takes
his paper bag and cigarettes and walks out of the store. |

INT. HUNTER'S HOME - NIGHT |
HUNTER
Take it with a shot he says.
Twenty bucks he says. This better
be worth it. |
7.
Hunter pours the vial which contains 4 little plastic
looking pouches into a shot. The pouches dissolve and he
takes the shot. |
HUNTER
Now for the waiting game. |
Hunter sits back in his chair. Suddenly his vision blurrs.
He tries to stand up, but falls back down. The lights start
to get bright and colors swirl. He staggers to his bedroom |
HUNTER
(laughing)
Holy shit |
He squirms in his bed for awhile then is still. Drool
protures from his mouth. |
INT. OLD WEST GHOST TOWN - DAY |

HUNTER
Where the hell am I? |

and cacti are all around him. He is dressed in leather
chaps, a cotton shirt and has a star pin on his chest. |
BILLY
Sherriff? Are you okay? Ya don't
look so good. Let's get you
standin' upright. |
The man picks Hunter up, dusts him off and stares. |
BILLY
The name is Billy sir. I own the
general store down that-a-ways.
Are you okay sir? |
HUNTER
What the hell? Who am I? |
BILLY
You are Hunter Williams. The best
damned law man this side of the
Mississippi. |
8.
Hunter stands back and looks around. He spots an old gold
rush town. As he looks around he realizes that all color is
missing from the world around him. |
HUNTER
What the... Why is there no color? |
BILLY
Sir your talkin crazy talk. You
might wanna go down to the bar and

HUNTER

BARTENDER

The bartender pours Hunter a drink. Hunter sits sipping his
whiskey looking around in amazement. He is utterly baffled
by the world that is around him. |

The two cowboys look over at the bar to find Hunter sitting

his hand away and walks out of the bar in a rage. Cowboy two
turns |
COWBOY2
I don't care if you are the damn

were the damn president. |
Cowboy 2 starts to pull his gun |
Hunter pulls out his revolver and fires. The cowboys gun
sparks and a trigger guard and finger fall to the floor. The
cowboy runs out of the bar screaming. Hunter turns back to
the bar. |

HUNTER
(to himself)
What the hell did I just do. I
have never shot a gun in my life. |

Piano starts in the background and everyone goes back to
their business |
INT. OUTSIDE OLD WEST BAR - NIGHT |

see you soon. |
HUNTER
(drunk)
I am godly here. Everyone treats
me like royalty. I am Hunter
Williams, soooper cop.
Hahahahahaha.... |
Hunter falls asleep snoring loudly. |
INT. OUTSIDE PUB NEXT TO HUNTER'S HOUSE - DAY |
HUNTER
Good morning sweetheart. |
Hunter rolls over to find himself hugging a fire hydrant. He
quickly rolls onto his back and sits up to find himself back
in reality. |
HUNTER
Wait, where am I? Everything is
normal again. Hey buddy, are there
any cowboys around? |
MAN 2
You're in the middle of freakin'
San Fransico. Does it look like
there are any cowboys around? |
Hunters stands to find himself about a block away from his
house. He walks inside and to his apartment door. Hunter
opens it to find his sofa and coffee table flipped over. |
HUNTER
Shit, looks like a fuckin tornado
came through here. |
He rights the table and couch and walks towards the kitchen. |
HUNTER
Ouch. son of a bitch! What was
that? |
11.
Hunter looks down to see he is standing on a broken vial
with a small amount of liquid at the bottom. As he looks
down he has a flashback of the deal he made the day before. |
HUNTER
(to himself)
Shit. It's starting to make sense.
That feeling was amazing. Everyone
loved me. I was fucking royalty. |
Hunter looks down |
INT. GAS STATION - DAY |
HUNTER
Joeseph? Hello Joeseph? |

Hunter walks around to the back of the station. |

INT. STOPLIGHT AT INTERSECTION - DAY |
Hunters car back window taped up is sitting at a light when
a truck pulls up next to him, the driver with a familiar
face. |
HUNTER
Thats the asshole that broke out
my window. |
Hunter grabs an old t-shirt off the floor of his car and
wraps it around his hand. He gets out of his car and sneaks
over to the unsuspecting man |
HUNTER
Payback is a bitch! |
Hunter slams his fist hard into the drivers side window
shattering the glass which cuts through the drivers face and
left arm. Hunter jumps back into his car as the light turns
green and speeds off. |
INT. HUNTERS HOUSE - NIGHT |
Hunter is sitting staring at the bag in front of him. He
ingests the contents, shoots it with more five o'clock, and
lays back in his bed. |
HUNTER
This is the last time Hunter. You
are not a drug addict. You are a
respectable business man who is in
between jobs. Last time. |
Once again the rooms starts shaking and spinning. Hunter is
dizzy then passes out. |
INT. OUTSIDE OLD WEST BAR - DAY |
BILLY
Sheriff, Sheriff! I know you had a
long night last night, but Lone
Star is holding up the bank sir! |
13.
Hunter gets up to see he is back in the black and white old
west. |
HUNTER
Well I'm the man for the job.
Where is the bank again? |
BILLY
Right down that way. Next to my
store, Sir |
INT. OUTSIDE OLD WEST BANK - DAY |
Lone Star comes running out of the bank |
HUNTER
This is the end of the line Lone
Star |
Lone Star turns around surprised to be staring down the
barrel of Hunter's gun. Hunter cocks it. |
LONE STAR
You think that is going to stop
us? |
HUNTER
What do you mean us? |
Big Bob laughs as two more men come running from the bank
guns drawn. They notice Hunter and Lone Star in a standoff
and fire at Hunter. |
Hunter runs and hides behind a post near the general store. |
Hunter slowly falls down the pole bleeding and passes out on
the ground. |
INT. OUTSIDE BANK - DAY |
Hunter wakes suddenly to find himself outside of a Bank of
America. He searches his shoulder for any sign of a wound. |
14.
HUNTER
I don't see any bullet, my
shoulder fucking kills. |
Hunter stands up from the light pole he was leaning against
and stretches out his arm. Just as he turns towards the bank
three men in trench coats pass by |
The man turns his head and smiles at Hunter. Sure enough it
is Lone Star, the bank robber from his trip. |
Hunter stumbles back against the pole, then a gunshot is
heard. Hunter runs. |
INT. GAS STATION - DAY |
HUNTER
Joeseph??? Joeseph! I swear to god
if you don't come out from your
little shit hole right now... |
DEALER
What what what? Stop it with the
fucking names. What you need?
more, cause I ain't got none? |
HUNTER
Hell no I don't want more. I want
to know what the fuck you have
done to me. What did you give me? |
DEALER
Take it easy man, you were having
so much fun with it. What
happened? |
HUNTER
I don't know where I am anymore. I
pass out on this shit in my room
and wake up wherever I last was in
my trip in reality. I have lost a
total grip on reality, and don't
know where or who I am anymore. |
DEALER
Dude you are making no sense, and
contrary to what you have heard
dealers don't give refunds. So
good luck with your life man. |
15.
As the dealer turns to leave Hunter grabs him by the
shoulder. |
HUNTER
Good luck with yours asshole. |
Hunter grabs a metal pipe laying nearby and slams it into
Joeseph's jaw. The man falls in a bloody wreck. As Hunter
stares down at the bloody man in front of him he realizes
something. The man he just beat up looks exactly like the
cowboy that he killed in the bar. Hunter searches the man
and finds a loaded .357 revolver. Hunter takes the weapon
and leaves the beaten man on the pavement. He starts to walk
away. |
HUNTER
Where am I? Who am I? |
INT. GENERAL STORE - NIGHT |
Hunter is sitting outside with a handle of rum next to him.
Suddenly a car pulls up to the store. The driver gets out.
In the dim light Hunter can see the outline of the mans
face. It is Lone Star from the bank. Hunter pulls the gun he
got off the dealer and points it at the mans head. |
HUNTER
This is the end of the line Lone
Star. |
MAN 3
Whoa man, shit. What are you
talking about. Money is that what
you want? I will give you anything
just don't shoot me, please I have
children! |
HUNTER
All I have heard from you is
excuses. |
A young child and a woman get out of the car and run to the
mans side. Hunter stares at the woman and child too confused
to realize they are Jennifer and Hailey his ex wife and
daughter. |
HUNTER
One more word out of any of you
and I will personally dig your
graves. |
16.
The man holds Hailey and Jennifer tight. Whispering words of
comfort. |
HUNTER
NOT ANOTHER WORD I SAID! |
The screen fades to black in silence |
Three gunshots are heard. |
FADE OUT. |

This is the most childish story of drug addiction I have ever read. You obviously know nothing about drugs or addiction. This script was sad because it kept me thinking that there is some kid out there who thinks like this. How can you be inside bumper to bumper traffic? INT. means interior. For that scene you would write EXT. HIGHWAY - DAY. Try writing a happy script. It'll make you feel better, I hope. |
