Romeo and Juliet? |
WENDY
Not much. I know it's a sad story.
Two people who fall in love, but
they are from two families who
don't like each other. |
WILL
That's right, but if you look at
the main characters, they are also
teenagers who fall in love, and
they can't stand to be apart, so
the feel they need to be united
forever in marriage, then they
decide to die together. |
WENDY
Wow, that's romantic & sad at the
same time. How do I put that into
my acting? |
WILL
You need to put yourself into your
character's mind. Find out what
makes them tick. Do you kinda know
what I mean? |
WILL
Well, let me show you what I mean. |

RALPH
(whispering)
How did the talk with Wendy go? |
WILL
Well, she told me that her date
from the party wasn't her
boyfriend. I didn't believe her
and called her a liar. |
RALPH
(whispering)
Will, you're an idiot. |
WILL
(whispering)
Why do you say that? |
RALPH
(whispering)
Because her date wasn't her
boyfriend. He is her cousin Joe.
She brought him because he just
broke up with his girlfriend and
was depressed. |
25.
WILL
(whispering)
Ralph, do you think it's too late
to apologize to Wendy? |
RALPH
(whispering)
Couldn't hurt to take a risk. |
Bell rings.
They exit. |
EXT. FRONT OF THE SCHOOL - DAY |
Will is waiting for Wendy.
Wendy walks towards Will. |
Wendy avoids Will and walks past him. |
WILL
Wait up for a second Wendy. I need
to talk with you. |
WENDY
(Almost in tears)
I don't see what you have to talk
with me about. You made yourself
clear. |
WILL
I wanted to apologize for what I
said. Ralph told me the truth. I
am sorry if I hurt you. |
Wendy turns away from Will. About to walk away. |
WENDY
(Not facing Will)
I accept your apology, but for
now, I think it's best if we just
don't speak to each other until I
have had time. |
WILL
That's ok. Take as much time as
you need. When you are ready, I am
here. |
Wendy walks off. |
26.
Will walks off to his house. |
INT. WILL'S BEDROOM - DAY |
WILL
(thinking)
Well, at least I made the first
move and made an ass of myself,
now all I can do is wait. |
The phone rings.
Will answers it. |
RALPH
(over the phone)
Hey Will. |
WILL
Hey Ralph. What's up? |
RALPH
(over the phone)
How did the talk with Wendy go? |
WILL
Well, I apologized, and she
accepted my apology, but... |
RALPH
(over the phone)
But what? |
WILL
She said that for now, it would be
better if we didn't see each
other, until she has had time. |
RALPH
(over the phone)
Wow. What are you going to do if
she decides to not be with you? |
WILL
Then I will have to learn to deal
with my mistakes, and try to move
forward. |
27.
RALPH
(over the phone)
Will you be able to do that? |
WILL
I dont know, but we have to wait
and see. |
RALPH
(over the phone)
Very true. Ok, well, I got to go.
Talk to you later. |
Will hangs up the phone. |
INT. WILL'S LIVING ROOM - DAY |
Will is watching tv.
The phone rings.
He goes to answer it. |
WENDY
(over the phone)
Hi Will. |
WILL
Hi Wendy. How are you? |
WENDY
(over the phone)
I am good. Just calling to say
that I won't be in school
tomorrow. |
WILL
Everything ok? Are you sick? |
WENDY
(over the phone)
No. Just got to stay home and help
my dad with my mom. |
28.
WENDY
(over the phone)
Well.... |
WENDY
(over the phone)
She has cancer, and has been doing
chemotherapy. So she's been sick. |
WILL
Oh wow. Well, I hope she gets
better, and let her know that I am
praying for her. |
WENDY
(over the phone)
Thanks. I will. I got to go now. |
WILL
Ok. If you need anything, call me. |
WENDY
(over the phone)
I will. Bye. |
Will hangs up. |
INT. WILL'S BEDROOM - NIGHT |
FADE OUT. |

I thought that there was no real "explaining" involved. You are forgetting that a screenplay is visual story telling, yes dialog is important too, but remember the visuals! Listen how people talk; people interrupt, and people talk more natural! You could do much better if you work on these aspects! |
