PS EPISODE 2: YOU'RE HIRED
FADE IN:
INT. FRONT OFFICE OF PS - DAY |
Gina and Maria are talking behind the front desk; Celia
enters: |
CELIA
(Annoyed)
I want to go home. |
GINA
It's 9 in the morning, you just
got here. |
CELIA
That doesn't change the fact that
I want to go home. |
CELIA
Well what? You're hiding
something. What is it? What is
going on? |
CELIA
(To Maria)
What is she hiding? |
Gina gives Maria a look. Celia notices. |
CELIA
(To Maria)
It's about you, what did you do? |
MARIA
I didn't do anything. |
GINA
She went on a date with Shawn. |
2.
GINA
Oh be quiet, you were going to
tell her anyway. |
CELIA
(To Maria)
OK, wait, I thought you said you
wouldn't go out with him again to
save your life. |
MARIA
I did, but that was 2 years ago,
it doesn't count. |
CELIA
I guess that's good to know for
future reference. |
MARIA
Yeah. Anyway, believe it or not he
took me out on a real date. |
CELIA
So, where did we go? |
MARIA
He took me to dinner at Le Cordon
Bleu. |
MARIA
Yeah, then we went dancing at Club
Mamba. |
MARIA
Yes. And when He dropped me off at
my house, he gave me a kiss on the
cheek and said |
Scene switches to Shawn and Joshua getting out of Shawn's
car and walking towards the office of PS. |
SHAWN
"Thank you for letting me do this
for you tonight. It was the most
fun I've had in a while and I

really mean that." |
SHAWN
Nothing, she just smiled and
kissed me. |
Shawn opens the door and he and Joshua walk through. |
CELIA
(Confused)
Ok, what'd I miss? |
GINA
You wouldn't believe us if we told
you. |
INT. JOSHUA'S OFFICE - DAY |
Celia is lurking outside of Joshua's Office while he is on
the phone. |
JOSHUA
(To Celia)
You can come in you know. |
Celia enters Joshua's office and takes a seat. |
Joshua ends his phone call. |
JOSHUA
(To Celia)
Hello, I'm Joshua, the new parking
manager. |
Awkward silence. |
CELIA
So...........you're the new boss. |
4.
Awkward silence |
CELIA
I don't think I'm doing this
right, am I? |
JOSHUA
Well, that all depends on what it
is you're trying to do. |
CELIA
I was going for small talk. |
JOSHUA
Yeah, I'm going to have to say
that it's not working out all that
well. We could start again if you
like, I could give you some
pointers. |
JOSHUA
(Interrupting
Celia)
I hear that Officer Bryant guy is
good at it, maybe he could teach
you a little. I could call him in. |
Joshua reaches for his phone to make the call. Celia stops
him. |
CELIA
No, no, no, you don't have to do
that. We'll just end this now
before I embarrass myself any more
than I already have. I'm just
going to go back to work now. |
JOSHUA
Are you sure, because this is fun
for me, the most entertainment I
had all day. |
CELIA
It's like 9 o'clock, the day
hasn't even begun yet. |
JOSHUA
Yeah, but it doesn't mean that
this can't be my highlight. |
5.
Celia Exits, Shawn enters. |
SHAWN
Hey boss man, when does our new
trainee get here? |
JOSHUA
(Amused)
Don't call me that. |
JOSHUA
I don't know. It weirds me out. |
SHAWN
Ok, Josh, when does Daniel get
here. |
JOSHUA
Danny will be here about lunch
time, so we'll eat then you can
train and go home. |
SHAWN
So I'm in this early on my day off
because....... |
JOSHUA
We'll start with A) Everyone else
here hates me. B) You get a free
lunch. C)Everyone else here hates
me. And Finally D) I'm the boss. |
SHAWN
You had me at free lunch. |
We move to the front office of P.S. with Celia, Maria and
Gina. |
6.
GINA
(To Celia)
So how does your story go |
MARIA
Everyone so far has a story about
their first meeting with Joshua,
what's yours. |
CELIA
You ever hear of Armageddon? |
Gina and Celia shoot Maria a look. |
MARIA
What? It was a movie. |
GINA
It's like the end of the world or
something. |
CELIA
Yeah, it was a lot like that. |
MARIA
It was a good movie too. |
GINA
Let it go Maria, just let it go.
(To Celia)
So was it really that bad? |
MARIA
Did you almost get fired? |
OFFICER BRYANT
(From the Control
Center)
Well you should have been. |
Officer Bryant begins to laugh. |
7.
CELIA
(To Officer Bryant)
Shut up O.B. |
MARIA
Anyway, I got you beat. Every time
I have a conversation with that
man I almost get fired. |
CELIA
He's only been here twenty-four
hours! |
MARIA
What can I say, I work fast. |
Shawn is walking from Joshua's office through the front
office of P.S. |
GINA
(Points to Shawn)
That's what he said. |
Maria gasps and Celia laughs, Shawn just looks confused and
continues to walk out of the front door. Maria then throws a
pen at Gina. |
MARIA
Yeah, you never gave me the full
details about your first time. |
Danny enters the office unnoticed. |
GINA
Nothing worth repeating. |
DANNY
Could I get some help please? |
8.
Shawn enters the front office from outside. |
MARIA
(Carefully)
You sure? |
DANNY
(Clears throat)
Hello. Could someone help me
please? |
CELIA
We are sorry about that, didn't
even see you standing there. |
Maria turns and sees Danny, she pulls Gina to the walkway to
the back office. |
MARIA
(Quietly but
excited)
Oh my god, it's him! |
INT. JOSHUA'S OFFICE - DAY |
Danny enters Joshua's office. |
Joshua gets up and gives Danny a hug. |
DANNY
It's been too long man, way too
long. |
JOSHUA
I know man, I know. |
9.
JOSHUA
Oh yeah, Danny, this is Shawn. He
is going to be the main person
training you. |
DANNY
Yeah we met briefly outside. |
SHAWN
Hey, good to officially meet you.
(Extends hand) |
Danny gives Joshua a look. |
DANNY
Sorry I don't do handshakes. |
SHAWN
(Looks at his own
hand)
Ok. |
Danny gives Shawn a hug. Shawn looks at Danny funny. |
DANNY
What you're not the hugging type? |
SHAWN
No, I mean, it's not that. Have we
met before? You look familiar. |
JOSHUA
(To Danny)
So, how you been? |
Danny closes the door to Joshua's office. We move to the
front office of P.S. |
CELIA
So why the freak out Maria.
(Smiling)
I mean, it's not like you normally
need a reason or anything. |
Maria gives a playful punch to Celia. |
10.
MARIA
(Playing Mad)
Shut up, tu estupido. |
GINA
So are you going to tell us now,
or later after we bug you to
death. |
MARIA
You remember yesterday? |
CELIA
No, wasn't here, remember. |
MARIA
Well yesterday, he passed by the
office and for some reason I
couldn't take my eyes of off him. |
GINA
Oh, that's the guy Shawn was
talking about yesterday. |
MARIA
(Shamefully
nodding her head)
Mmm hmm. |
CELIA
Believe it or not, I'm still
confused. |
Mrs. James comes over from the secretary station to the desk
in the front office. |
MRS. JAMES
Do one of you girls mind taking a
walk? I need this envelope
delivered to the Walsh Building.
Maria, you're not doing anything,
could you? |
Four officers enter the front office of P.S., each one is
carrying an orange object (a boot). |
MARIA
Actually I have to show the
officers where Joshua wants to put
the new boots.
(To the officers)
Follow me please. |
11.
Maria and the officers walk out of the front office through
the back doors. |
GINA
I'd be happy to make that delivery
for you Wilma. |
MRS. JAMES
Oh no, don't worry about it
sweetie, you get back to work.
It's not that important, I'll just
inter-office it. |
GINA
Are you sure, because I really
don't mind going. |
MRS. JAMES
No really, it's ok. |
Mrs. James drops the envelope in the outgoing mail and
returns to her desk. |
CELIA
She really does not like Maria
does she? |
CELIA
What did Maria ever do to her? |
GINA
I wish I knew Celia, I wish I
knew. |
INT. FRONT OFFICE OF PS - DAY |
A Chinese delivery guy shows up with food. Joshua comes out
to meet him. He grabs the food and takes it into his office
with Shawn and Danny waiting. |
JOSHUA
So how is the training going? |
12.
SHAWN
It is going well for now. |
DANNY
I'll be right back, I have to get
some sauce. |
SHAWN
Here, they put some extra in the
bag. |
DANNY
No, I need some real sauce. |
JOSHUA
You still carry that stuff around
with you? |
DANNY
All the time man. I'll be back. |
Danny walks out of Joshua's Office to the front office when
he walks in on the girl's conversation. |
MARIA
(Sarcastically)
Thanks for asking us for lunch. |
CELIA
I know. I guess they think we
don't eat. |
GINA
Well in all fairness you don't eat
Celia. I mean we order food and
you get a grilled cheese
sandwhich. |
CELIA
I like grilled cheese. |
GINA
And that's fine except you only
eat half of it. |
FRANCINE
(From inside of
her office.
Pissed off, on
the phone)
YOU WHAT?! HOW COULD YOU SCREW
(MORE)
13.
FRANCINE (cont'd)
THAT UP?! |
Francine opens her door violently and then slams it closed
before walking out of the front office door. Joshua and
Shawn rush to the front. |
JOSHUA
What the hell was that? |
INT. BACK OFFICE OF P.S. - DAY |
Shawn and Danny are in the back office where Shawn is
continuing Danny's training. |
SHAWN
So this is where we keep all of
the permits that we give out. |
Shawn leads Danny to another section of the office. |
SHAWN
This is where we keep the
envelopes the permits get mailed
in. Easy enough, right? |
DANNY
Yeah, simple stuff, although all
you did was show me where
eveything is. |
SHAWN
There is a method to my madness.
Tomorrow we will cover the
computer work you have to learn. |
DANNY
Ok, cool. Is that going to be a
one day thing too? |
SHAWN
More like a 1 year thing. |
Shawn and Danny walk to the front office. Maria studies the
two as the come from the back. |
SHAWN
Guys this is Danny. He is the
newest memeber to our family. |
14.
MARIA
Family, this is one sick twisted
family. Francine the mom, Joshua
the dad. |
GINA
(Interrupting
Maria)
Maria, the child of the corn. |
Shawn laughs. |
SHAWN
Well I'm going to go see dad real
quick, I'll be right back. |
DANNY
I won't be here, I'm out. See you
guys later. |
Danny leaves and Shawn walks to Joshua's office. When he
gets inside Joshua;s phone rings. |
JOSHUA
Hello, hi ma, how's your day
going?
(Pauses)
It's not too bad here, especially
since Danny is here now. |
Shawn goes to leave but Joshua motions for him not to go. |
JOSHUA
No ma, he's not my only friend, I
made one.
(Laughs)
Thanks ma, well that one friend
just walked in so I'm going to
talk to you later. Love you. |
Joshua hangs up the phone. |
SHAWN
So you ready to get out of here? |
JOSHUA
You know you don't have to drive
me right? |
15.
SHAWN
Actually I do. You don't have a
car, Danny already left, and if I
recall correctly: everyone else
here hates you. |
JOSHUA
(Smiling)
Oh yeah. In that case let's go. |
SHAWN
Can I ask you a personal question? |
SHAWN
You talk to your mom a lot? |
SHAWN
(Evenly)
That's cool. |
JOSHUA
You wanna talk about it? |
JOSHUA
Why you asked me that question. |
16.
SHAWN
I was just curious. |
JOSHUA
Do you talk to your mom? |
SHAWN
Not as much as you do. |
SHAWN
She was a little down last time I
checked, but she's still alive. |
JOSHUA
You sure you don't want to talk
about it? |
SHAWN
Really Josh, there is nothing to
talk about. |
Shawn walks out of Joshua's office, Joshua follows. |
INT. JOSHUA'S OFFICE - DAY |
Joshua is sitting at his desk working on his computer.
Francine pops her head in his office. |
FRANCINE
I forgot to tell you didn't I. |
JOSHUA
I'm betting you did. |
17.
FRANCINE
It's time for the Wednesday
morning meeting. |
FRANCINE
Yeah, all the supervisors go. |
FRANCINE
Oh yes, let's go! |
Joshua gets up to go. Joshua and Francine begin to walk out. |
JOSHUA
What else have you not told me? |
FRANCINE
I don't know but I'm pretty sure
you'll find out soon enough. |
Joshua and Francine exit to the Wednesday morning meeting
through the front door. |
GINA
I love Wednesday's. They are my
absolute favorite day of the week. |
DANNY
And why is that Gina? |
GINA
Because Danny boy, of the
Wednesday morning meeting. |
DANNY
The Wednesday morning meeting? |
GINA
Yes, the Wednesday morning
meeting. This is when all the
supervisors in this department
(MORE)
18.
GINA (cont'd)
leave us alone for two glorious
hours. |
DANNY
And they only do this on
Wednesday's? |
GINA
That would be why it is called the
Wednesday morning meeting and not
the Tuesday morning meeting or
even the Friday morning meeting.
It is the |
DANNY
(Interrupting Gina)
Wednesday morning meeting. I got
it. |
Celia busts through the front door to the office. |
SHAWN
Believe it or not this has already
been covered. |
CELIA
But, it's, Wednesday! |
DANNY
So G, where's Maria. |
GINA
I don't know, I'm going to call
her. |
SHAWN
No need. Josh said she called out. |
DANNY
Don't call him that to his face. |
19.
SHAWN
Boss man he hates, but he didn't
say anything when I called him
Josh before. |
DANNY
You, called him Josh, to his face? |
DANNY
(In disbelief)
And you're still walking? |
GINA
How bad does he hate it? |
DANNY
Last time I called him that, the
only time I called him that, he
took a swing at me, and I am not
talking about a playful swing
between friends. He was head
hunting. |
CELIA
(Laughing)
Oh my God, what did you do? |
DANNY
Ducked, apologized and promised to
never do it again. |
Someone walks through the front door. |
SHAWN
And here comes our first customer
of the day. Why don't you handle
this one Danny. |
DANNY
I haven't finished training yet. |
20.
SHAWN
This is part of it. |
SHAWN
The part where you are screwed. |
DANNY
(Sarcastically)
Oh you are funny, so funny.
(Normal)
Hi ma'am, how can I help you this
morning? |
AMANDA
Well I am here for a meeting with
Senior VP Mark Williams. He said
for me to come here and get a
parking pass for my car. Am I even
in the right building, this place
is so big, I've already been
walking around for twenty minutes. |
DANNY
You have been told the right,
thing, this is the building in
which you would get that pass. I
just need you to fill out a form
with your car information. |
Danny hands the form to Amanda. Amanda begins to fill the
form out. |
DANNY
While you do that, I am going to
get your pass ready. |
SHAWN
(Quietly to Danny)
It's very rare that someone will
tell their guest to stop here and
get a pass. |
21.
CELIA
(Together w/ Gina
and Shawn)
Yeah. |
Danny looks over the sheet. |
DANNY
I'm going to need you to put your
license plate on the form. |
AMANDA
I'm sorry, I can't remember what
it is, and I left my registration
in the car. |
DANNY
I'm sorry ma'am but I can't give
you the pass without the license
plate. |
AMANDA
What am I supposed to do? |
DANNY
I'm sorry ma'am but if you want
the pass you are going to have to
find a way to get the plate off
your car and give it to us,
otherwise I can't give you the
pass. |
AMANDA
My car is too far away to walk
back to it just for the license
plate. What happens if I park
without the pass? |
DANNY
Well this is private property so
if you park without the pass you
can get a ticket that will be
about $125 for parking in an
unauthorized space or lot and for
parking without a permit. That is
if you are lucky. |
AMANDA
You're kidding me. |
22.
DANNY
If you are not lucky you will be
towed which is much more
expensive. |
AMANDA
So I risk a ticket or being towed
because I forgot my license plate?
How does that make any sense to
you. |
DANNY
Sorry, but we don't make the rules
we just let people know what they
are. |
AMANDA
(Sarcastically)
Well you guys are doing a hell of
a job. |
DANNY
(Sarcastically)
Thank you. |
AMANDA
You know what, I'll take my
chances. |
Amanda storms out of the office, in walks Valerie, an
employee at P.S. |
VALERIE
What's that chicks problem? |
Gina runs up to Valerie and gives her a hug. |
VALERIE
I was just checking to see if we
were still on for Friday. |

SHAWN
(Annoyed)
Yes it's on. It's always on. |
VALERIE
Ok, keep your panties on. |
23.
GINA
Why didn't you just call? |
VALERIE
It ain't after 9. I don't have no
minutes to be wasting. |
Valerie notices Danny. |
VALERIE
And who is this tall drink of
water? |
SHAWN
His name is Danny, and it's only
his second day so could you wait a
week before you try and get him in
bed please. |
VALERIE
I don't sleep with men I just
meet. |
SHAWN
Yeah well, what do you call what
we did? |
VALERIE
The reason I don't sleep with men
I just meet. Anyway, hi Danny, I'm
Valerie. It's nice to meet you. |
VALERIE
So are you coming out with us on
Friday? |
DANNY
I didn't know you guys were going
anywhere. |
SHAWN
It's something we do once or twice
a month as a group. We're going
bowling this time. |
24.
DANNY
Cool, I'm in. I mean I can't bowl
or anything but I'm good for
hanging out. |
SHAWN
Why can't you bowl? |
DANNY
No, I'm able to bowl, I'm just not
very good at it. |
VALERIE
Cool. Now I'm going to get out of
here before Francine comes back,
(To Gina)
you know how much she hates me.
Bye girl. |
VALERIE
Bye Celia, bye Danny, see you guys
Friday. |
Valerie leaves through the front door. |
INT. JOSHUA'S OFFICE - DAY |
Gina knocks on Joshua's door and enters. |
GINA
Can I talk to you for a minute? |
GINA
So,.......what's your favorite
movie? |
25.
JOSHUA
This is what you want to talk
about? |
JOSHUA
Ok, I'll bite. Scent of a Woman. |
GINA
Never heard of it. Next favorite. |
GINA
(Gives him a weird
look)
Really Josh, I mean it's a good
movie but your second favorite all
time. |
JOSHUA
So that is what this is about. |
JOSHUA
I see you've been talking to
Danny. |
GINA
Josh, what are you talking about? |
JOSHUA
I'm over it, the name doesn't
bother me anymore. It's what they
used to call my dad. I hated him
and everything about him including
his name and for most of my life
myself, but I'm over it now. I'm
not a child any more, I'm not
immature any more, I've grown up.
I still hate him but that is just
a name, i'm over it. |
GINA
What about boss man? You over that
one? |
26.
GINA
You sure know how to take the fun
out things. |
JOSHUA
Yeah, I'm pretty good at that. |
Gina gets up and begins to leave. |
JOSHUA
Even though you did what you just
did, my offer still stands. All
you gotta do is say the words. |
GINA
If I did, could I call you boss
man? |
JOSHUA
If you say those words you could
call me anything you want. |
Gina shakes her head, Joshua smiles and Gina exits. Danny
enters. |
DANNY
So you let Shawn call you Josh.
Shawn, whom you met three days
ago, and when I, your best friend,
did it, you tried to take my head
off. |
JOSHUA
Yeah, I'm over it now. |
DANNY
Yeah, whatever, anyway what is
this offer that Gina was talking
about. |
27.
DANNY
The one that still stands despite
what she just did to you. |
JOSHUA
What? Do you listen to my
conversations right outside of my
door? |
JOSHUA
I told her that if she were to
ever ask me to marry her, there
would be no circumstance in which
I would say no. |
DANNY
You mean you couldn't just ask her
out on a date? |
JOSHUA
(Smiling)
Nah, too easy. |
DANNY
(Laughs)
Yeah buddy. What's with her
friend? That Maria chick? |
JOSHUA
It's a bad idea, and I would
rather not have any inter-office
relationships here. |
DANNY
Wait a minute, so you can marry
someone from the office but you
don't want inter-office
relationships. |
28.
JOSHUA
Our situations are completely
different. |
DANNY
Enlighten me please. |
JOSHUA
My plan didn't involve dating. |
DANNY
Ok, I get it, so if I ask her to
marry me would that be fine? |
JOSHUA
No, I wouldn't do that either. |
JOSHUA
(Interrupting
Danny)
Look Danny just don't. Please, for
me just don't. |
DANNY
You ready to get out of here? |
JOSHUA
Almost, I just need a minute to
call my mom. |
Joshua walks over to the phone and starts dialing. |
DANNY
Ok. Tell her I said hi. |
29.
DANNY
And that I miss her. |
DANNY
And that I love her. |
DANNY
Ok. I'll go get the car. |
JOSHUA
Ok. I'll be right out. |
Danny exits and Joshua dials his mom. |
FADE OUT. |
