FADE IN:

INT. GROCERY STORE - DAY

(SOPHIE, SOPHIE(VOICEOVER), CUSTOMER, FREDDY, MATT)

A TYPICAL CHECKOUT LINE IN A BRIGHTLY LIT GROCERY STORE.
SOFT ELEVATOR MUSIC PLAYS IN THE BACKGROUND, THE BEEP OF THE
REGISTER SCANNING ITEMS IS ALSO HEARD. SOPHIE STONE -- AN 18
YEAR OLD FEMALE-- IS SCANNING AND BAGGING THE GROCERIES OF A
MIDDLEAGED WOMAN STANDING AT THE CHECKOUT. THERE IS A LONG
LINE OF PEOPLE WAITING BEHIND HER. SOPHIE AND THE WOMAN
CONVERSE WHILE A VOICEOVER EXPRESSES HER THOUGHTS.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
      (WHILE SOPHIE
       SCILENTLY SCANS
       THROUGH ITEMS)
Life:1 Sophie:0. I really can't
believe that this is my life. I'm
also having a fair bit of trouble
believing that I'm now the proud
owner of an oversized neon green
polo and a corresponding purple
smock. Awesome, but whatever, at
least they're not making me wear
the visor. Who am I to complain,
they give you four years in high
school to figure out what you want
to do with your life and since
I've never been good with
deadlines-

                       CUSTOMER
      (INTERUPTING THE
       NARRATOR)
I don't want these oranges
anymore, they touched the meat.

                       SOPHIE
      (TAKES ITEM FROM
       THE WOMAN)
No problem! I can just take that
for you.

2.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Why would you put it next to the
meat if you didn't want them to
touch it. What was I saying?
Right, since I've never been good
with deadlines I'm stuck here, at
Folcroft Grocers. Unfortunately
I'm not like the other girls in
Folcroft Wood and I can't afford
to waste a year in college
figuring out what I want to do
with the rest of my life. I also
wont be able to afford the botox
I'll be needing later in life if I
have to keep this smile plastered
on my face for another year.

                       SOPHIE
Your total comes to $47.64!

                       CUSTOMER
Wow, no.

                       SOPHIE
I'm sorry?

                       CUSTOMER
      (CONDESCENDINGLY)
Well does this look like
forty-eight dollars worth of
groceries to you?

                       SOPHIE
      (LOOKS AT LARGE
       AMOUNT OF MEAT
       PURCHASED)
Though it's only my second week
here, it doesn't take a genius to
figure out that when you buy an
entire farm animal you end up
having to pay a lot.

                       SOPHIE
I think it may just be all the
deli products adding up Ma'am.

3.

                       CUSTOMER
Yes, well, I'm going to check my
bill anyway, and I'd prefer if you
waited before moving on to the
next customer so you can fix your
errors.

SOPHIE'S EYES DART BETWEEN THE WOMAN AND THE OTHER ANGRY
CUSTOMERS IN LINE WITH A NERVOUS EXPRESSION ON HER FACE AS
SHE WAITS FOR THE WOMAN TO FINISH CHECKING HER RECEIPT.

                       SOPHIE
Is everything alright with your
bill?

                       CUSTOMER
Uhm, well yes, I believe so.
Goodbye then.

                       SOPHIE
      (WITH A GRIM SMILE)
Have a great day.

SOPHIE MAKES A FACE AT THE BACK OF THE WOMAN'S HEAD AS SHE
TURNS TO LEAVE.

                       SOPHIE (cont'd)
      (TO NEXT CUSTOMER)
Hi! Sorry about that, how are you
tod- oh, hi Freddy.

A SMALL, AWKWARD LOOKING BOY AROUND THE AGE OF 12 HAS A
CHEESY SMILE ON HIS FACE AS HE WINKS AT SOPHIE.

                       FREDDY
I'm doing great, I'd be doing a
lot better if I could get your
number off of you.

CAMERA FREEZES ON FREDDY QUIRKING HIS EYEBROW AT SOPHIE
WHILE THE NARRATOR SPEAKS.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
This is Freddy Wilson. He came in
on my first day here, and my
second day here, and pretty much
every shift I've had since I began

                       SOPHIE (cont'd)
working at Folcroft Grocers.
Sometimes I catch him following me
around on his bike. I'm pretty
sure he thinks we're in love.
Other than that, he's pretty much
harmless.

                       SOPHIE
I'll have to pass on that one
kiddo.

                       FREDDY
You don't know what you're missing
out on babe. Anyway I just came by
to buy this, I have a hot date
tonight so I just thought I'd be
prepared.

FREDDY SLIDES A PACKAGE OF CONDOMS DOWN THE BELT AND SOPHIE
LETS OUT A MUFFLED SNORT.

                       FREDDY (cont'd)
Jealous?

                       SOPHIE
I hate to break it to you Freddy
but there's no way you went
through, or even opened for that
matter, the pack you bought
yesterday. I'll make you a deal,
you give those to me to put away
and I'll pretend not to notice you
following me home after work
tonight.

                       FREDDY
Yeah sure, whatever. Now that I
think about it, I might have a few
spares lying around my room
anyway. See you Sophie.

                       SOPHIE
Bye Freddy.

A SHOT OF A CLOCK MOVING FORWARD 3 HOURS IS SHOWN.

5.

                       CO-WORKER
Hey Sophie, could you close off
your register and clean up? Your
shift ends in ten minutes.

SOPHIE REACHES FOR HER CLOSED SIGN BUT LOOKS UP TO SEE A
WOMAN RUNNING TOWARD HER OPEN REGISTER WITH A BUGGY FULL OF
GROCERIES.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Oh hell no.

SOPHIE SLAMS THE SIGN DOWN ON THE BELT JUST AS THE WOMAN
APPROACHES HER REGISTER. SOPHIE SMILES AT THE WOMAN.

                       SOPHIE
Oh darn, I'm closed, sorry I
didn't see you!

THE WOMAN IS ABOUT TO PROTEST WHEN TWO GUNSHOTS ARE HEARD.
BOTH OF THEM LOOK TOWARDS THE ENTERANCE WHERE TWO YOUNG MEN
IN BALCLAVAS, AND GUNS IN THE AIR, RUN TOWARDS THE
REGISTERS. THE FIRST IS SLIGHTLY MORE BUILT WITH A DEEP,
BOOMING VOICE --DAME-- THE SECOND --MATT-- IS SLIGHTLY
SOFTER SPOKEN WITH BRIGHT GREEN EYES.

                       DAME
      (YELLING TO THE
       ENTIRE STORE)
Everybody down, I want everybody
down on the ground right now! I
don't want to see anyone looking
up! If anyone moves I'll blow
their goddamn face off!

                       MATT
      (TO ACCOMPLICE)
Let's just do this I'll start with
the far registers, you empty these
ones.

MATT BEGINS TO WALK TOWARD SOPHIE WHO LOOKS ON IN A MIXTURE
OF SUPRISE AND CONFUSION.

6.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Um, what the hell? Oh my god! Are
we being robbed? Oh course we're
being robbed you idiot! What do I
do? What did he say? Maybe I
should ask him to repeat it? He
probably won't mind, he seems like
a decent guy.

                       SOPHIE
Excuse me but what did you-

MATT LOOKS DIRECTLY AT SOPHIE IN SUPRISE AS HE APPROACHES
HER REGISTER WITH A CASH BAG.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
That probably wasn't a great idea.
Ugh, what did they say in training
about robberies? Cooperate! Give
them what they want. Alright, no
problem I can do that.

                       SOPHIE
Hi, welcome to Folcroft Grocers,
is there anything I can help you
with?

SOPHIE SMILES BRIGHTLY AT MATT WHO STARES SILENTLY AT HER IN
SHOCK.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Good, nice and polite. This stuff
is easy-peasy, we should
definitely be robbed more often.

MATT CONTINUES TO STARE WIDE-EYED AT SOPHIE WHILE SHE SMILES
AWKWARDLY AT HIM.

                       DAME
      (YELLING FROM THE
       OTHER SIDE OF THE
       STORE)
What the hell are you doing over
there man? Would you stop staring
and hurry your ass up before the
cops show?

7.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Sweet Jesus, who are we being
robbed by? A gang of truck
drivers? Didn't their mothers
every tell them that swearing is
rude? Well then again, so is
robbing a grocery store. Touché
mind, touché.

SOPHIE LOOKS BACK TO MATT WHO SHAKES HIS HEAD IN DISBELIEF.

                       MATT
      (YELLING)
Yeah um. Empty all the cash from
your register into this bag!

                       SOPHIE
You really don't have to yell. I'm
standing right in front of you and
there's no one else talking in the
store.

                       MATT
Shut up! Hurry up and open the
register.

SOPHIE WINCES AND BITES HER LIP SIGNIFYING THERE'S A PROBLEM
WITH HIS REQUEST.

                       SOPHIE
Okay well uno problemo with that
amigo. You see, the thing is that
I'm kinda new here, and I don't
exactly know how to open the
register without someone making a
purchase.

                       MATT
Are you kidding me?

                       SOPHIE
Um no, but if you'd like to make a
purchase then I can open it for
you.

8.

MATT LOOKS AROUND AT THE CUSTOMERS ON THE FLOOR AND RUNS UP
TO A MAN WHO IS THE CLOSEST TO THE REGISTER.

                       MATT
You! Give me your wallet!

THE MAN HANDS OVER HIS WALLET AND MATT RUNS BACK OVER TO
SOPHIE'S REGISTER GRABBING A PACK OF GUM FROM THE DISPLAY
NEXT TO THE REGISTER.

                       MATT
Uh here, scan this pack of gum.

                       DAME
      (YELLING)
Dude! What are you doing over
there, I've almost finished with
all the other registers! Goddamn
it, hurry!

MATT RUBS HIS TEMPLES THROUGH HIS BALCLAVA AND LETS OUT A
SMALL LAUGH IN DISBELIEF.

                       MATT
Just hurry up and ring it through
okay.

SOPHIE SCANS THE PACKET.

                       SOPHIE
Your total is $2.14, how will you
be paying for this?

                       MATT
Uh, with cash, shit this guy
doesn't have any cash, uh credit
card?

MATT HANDS SOPHIE A CARD FROM THE MANS WALLET.

                       SOPHIE
Oh sorry, we don't take American
Express, we do however take Visa,
MasterCard and Debit

9.

                       MATT
      (YELLING)
Goddamn it! This is so messed up,
here!

MATT THROWS A VISA AT SOPHIE AND EXPLODES INTO A RAGE OUT OF
FRUSTRATION.

                       MATT (cont'd)
      (YELLING)
I swear to god I will shoot you if
you don't hurry up.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Whoa hes serious, we're actually
being robbed, this guy has a gun,
I could die right here.

SOPHIE SCANS THE CARD AND THE REGISTER CHIMES.

                       SOPHIE
      (SOFTLY)
There, it's open.

MATT'S EXPRESSION SOFTENS AS HE LOOKS AT SOPHIE EMPTYING THE
REGISTER. SIRENS ARE SUDDENLY HEARD IN THE DISTANCE AND MATT
PANICS AGAIN.

                       MATT
      (YELLING)
Shit! Hurry up woman! I'm giving
you one goddamn warning shot.

MATT POINTS HIS GUN UP IN THE AIR AS SOPHIE WATCHES IN
SHOCK. HE FIRES A SHOT AND A LOUD PING IS HEARD AS THE SHOT
RICOCHETS OFF ONE OF THE METAL BARS ON THE CELING AND HITS
SOPHIE IN THE LOWER CHEST AREA. SOPHIE THEN CRIES OUT AND
FALLS TO THE FLOOR, HITTING HER HEAD ON THE OPEN REGISTER ON
THE WAY DOWN.

                       MATT
What the fu- oh shit! No no no!

MATT JUMPS THE COUNTER AND LEANS DOWN BESIDE SOPHIE WHO IS
STRUGGLING TO KEEP HER EYES OPEN.

10.

                       MATT (cont'd)
Hey, hey, look at me.

SOPHIES EYES CLOSE AS SHE WINCES IN PAIN.

                       MATT (cont'd)
Damnit! Okay, alright, let's try
this.

MATT TAKES OFF HIS BALCLAVA AND GENTLY PUTS HIS HAND ON
SOPHIE'S FACE, TURNING HER HEAD TOWARDS HIM. SOPHIE OPENS
HER EYES TO LOOK AT MATT.

                       DAME
      (YELLING)
What the hell are you doing man?
Put that back on!

                       MATT
There you go, good. I need you to
hold on for me okay? There are
people coming to help you really
soon. Listen really hard, can you
hear those sirens?

SOPHIE NODS HER HEAD SLIGHTLY.

                       MATT (cont'd)
Great, now you just keep listening
to those sirens until they get
really loud okay? You just have to
try to hold on until then, you got
that?

                       DAME
Matt if we don't get out of here
right now man, we're done.

                       MATT
Alright!

MATT TAKES ANOTHER LOOK AT SOPHIE, STROKES HER CHEEK SOFTLY
WITH HIS THUMB AND THEN PUTS HIS BALCLAVA ON AND RUNS OUT OF
THE STORE WITH DAME. SOPHIE IS SHOWN HAVING TROUBLE
BREATHING WHILE THE SIRENS GET LOUDER AND THE SCENE ENDS.

11.

INT. RECOVERY ROOM - NIGHT

A BRIGHTLY LIT RECOVERY ROOM IS SHOWN, DECORATED IN ALL
WHITE. SOPHIE IS LYING IN A HOSPITAL BED WHILE A SURGEN WITH
A MASK OVER HIS MOUTH AND NOSE IS SHOWN LEANING OVER HER.THE
BEEPING OF MACHINES AND A CODE 2 ANNOUNCEMENT IS HEARD IN
THE DISTANCE.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Ow and also ooow! Why is it so
bright in here? Oh god I'm dead
aren't I? But I have so much to
live for, I wanted to get married,
and have children, and- oh my god,
I haven't even gotten my first
paycheque yet.

                       DOCTOR
Sophie?

SOPHIE FURROWS HER BROWS.

                       SOPHIE
Jesus?

THE DOCTOR SMILES AND SHAKES HIS HEAD.

                       DOCTOR
Hi Sophie, my name is Doctor
Heffernan, I was your surgeon
today, you're in the recovery room
right now. We're expecting you to
make a full recovery, you might be
feeling drowsy from the morphine
but were going to take you up to
your room so you-

SOPHIE FALLS ASLEEP WHILE THE DOCTOR IS IN MID-SENTENCE AND
THE SCENE ENDS.

12.

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - DAY

SCENE OPENS TO A WHITE HOSPITAL ROOM WITH THE CURTAINS OPEN
SHINING LIGHT ON A TABLE WITH FLOWERS AND GET WELL CARDS
DISPLAYED ON IT. SOPHIE OPENS HER EYES TO SEE HER 22 YEAR
OLD BROTHER DEREK SITTING BESIDE HER BED PLAYING ON HIS PS2.

                       SOPHIE
Hey Derek.

                       DEREK
Holy shit!

DEREK JUMPS, STARTLED BY HIS SISTER'S VOICE AND FUMBLES WITH
HIS PS2 WHICH EVENTUALLY FALLS TO THE GROUND. DEREK PICKS IT
UP AND GLARES AT SOPHIE.

                       DEREK (cont'd)
Sophie, what the hell! I mean hey,
uh, how are you feeling?

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
What? Derek asking about something
that doesn't in some way benefit
him?

SOPHIE LOOKS AT DEREK SUSPICIOUSLY.

                       SOPHIE
Uh, I'm feeling fine, why?

                       DEREK
Well Sophie, I didn't really want
to be the one to tell you this but
they had to amputate your baby
toes.

                       SOPHIE
What? No! Why? Those were my
favourite ones!

SOPHIE, IN A PANIC STARTS WIGGLING HER TOES AND SEES THEM
MOVING UNDER THE SHEET.

13.

                       DEREK
I know, bummer right? I tried to
see if they could save them but-

                       SOPHIE
Derek, I can see them moving under
the sheet!

                       DEREK
I know, but you scared me first.

SOPHIE NARROWS HER EYES AT DEREK AS SHE HEARS THE SOFT CLICK
OF THE DOOR OPENING. BOTH SIBLINGS LOOK OVER TO SEE THIER
MOTHER, A MIDDLE AGED WOMAN IN A BRIGHT PANTS-SUIT WALKING
INTO THE ROOM.

                       SOPHIE
Mom! Derek told me that my toes
were amputated!

                       DEREK
Wow, okay tattletale.

                       MOTHER
      (ANGERLY)
Derek Stone! Youre sister is in
the hospital and you're still
trying to pick a fight with her?

SOPHIE MAKES A FACE AT DEREK WHEN HER MOTHER ISN'T LOOKING.

                       SOPHIE
Uh, actually, speaking of me being
in the hospital, what exactly
happened to me?

SOPHIE'S MOTHER'S FACE DROPS IN SHOCK.

                       MOTHER
My poor baby has Amnesia! Derek
call Doctor Heffernan!

                       SOPHIE
Mom, stop, I don't have Amnesia,
and obviously I remember being
shot, it's not really something
you forget, but what happened, you
            (MORE)

14.

                       SOPHIE (cont'd)
know, post-shooting fandango?

                       MOTHER
Well they rushed you to the
hospital because you were barely
breathing.

HER MOTHER'S EYES BEGIN TO WELL UP WITH TEARS.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Oh God.

                       SOPHIE
Mom, stop, please cry later.

                       MOTHER
Well alright, sorry if I'm a
little emotional Sophie. I'm only
your mother, I only gave birth to
you, without an epidural mind you.

SOPHIE ROLLS HER EYES AT HER MOTHER'S DRAMATICS.

                       SOPHIE
Okay, I'm sorry mom, thank you for
being concerned.

                       MOTHER
You're welcome Sophie. Anyway
darling, they took you into
surgery and found that the bullet
had pierced your lung. You've been
kind of um, drowsy for the past
three days or so.

DEREK LETS OUT A LOUD SNORT OF LAUGHTER.

                       DEREK
A bit drowsy mom? Sophie, you were
pumped full of morphine. You're
honestly way cooler when you're on
drugs, it was the best three days
of my life.

15.

                       MOTHER
Derek! Don't encourage your sister
to do drugs!

SOPHIE LOOKS HORRIFIED.

                       SOPHIE
Mom! Was I really that bad? What
was I doing?

THE MOTHER STARTS TO LOOK FLUSTERED.

                       MOTHER
Nothing sweety, you were just a
bit umm...

                       DEREK
Stoned?

                       MOTHER
Yes, stoned. No wait I didn't
mean-

                       DEREK
Yeah, you were totally out of it,
you kept asking everyone if they
thought you had street cred now
that you've been shot.

DEREK BREAKS INTO A FIT OF LAUGHTER.

                       SOPHIE
Oh God.

                       DEREK
It only got better when you were
calling the guy you were sharing
your room with your hoe, so they
had to move you to a private room.

SOPHIE REACHES UP TO SWAT AT DEREK BUT FORGETS ABOUT HER
INJURY AND HURTS HERSELF.

                       SOPHIE
Ow, holy potatoes that hurts!

16.

                       MOTHER
Sophie! Be careful you have an
injury!

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Yeah thanks tips.

THERE ARE TWO KNOCKS ON THE DOOR INTERRUPTING THE
CONVERSATION. AS THE DOOR OPENS, TWO POLICE OFFICERS ENTER
THE ROOM.

                       SOPHIE
Run Derek, run! They've finally
caught up with you! If they catch
you they'll hand you over to
immigration and send you back to
Mexico, where you came from,
illegally!

THE TWO POLICE OFFICERS AND DEREK LOOK ALARMED.

                       MOTHER
Sophie! Your brother is not an
illegal immigrant. That's hardly a
thing to joke about. I'm so sorry
officers, is there something we
can help you with?

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Hi, I'm officer Nick Silverman and
this is my partner, offier Darrell
Fitzpatrick. Would it be alright
if we had a few minutes with
Sophie just to ask her a few
questions?

                       MOTHER
Of course officers, come on Derek,
let's leave them to it.

DEREK AND HIS MOTHER LEAVE THE ROOM AND THE DOOR CLICKS
SHUT. THE TWO OFFICERS STAND SILENTLY IN THE ROOM.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Wow, this is so awkward. Am I
supposed to start?

17.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Hi Sophie, we heard from the
Doctors that you were going to
make a full recovery, now we're
sure you have a lot of questions
to ask us so go ahead.

SOPHIE'S EYES WIDEN.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
I'm supposed to have questions
prepared? Okay, questions,
thinking of questions. Easy peasy,
I should brace myself for all the
questions about to burst into my
head. Um.

                       SOPHIE
Do you think that, uh.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Good, see lots of questions begin
with that. Lots! I merely have to
choose one. Oh god this is
awkward, I havent said anything
for about thirty seconds, uh.

                       SOPHIE
Do you think that I have street
cred now?

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
What?

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
What?

BOTH SOPHIE AND THE OFFICERS LOOK AT EACH OTHER IN SURPRISE
AND AFTER A MOMENT THE OFFICER BEGINS TO SPEAK.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN (cont'd)
Sophie, we realize that you might
be a bit confused right now so why
don't we tell you about about what
happened on Thursday and then
maybe we can just ask you a few
            (MORE)

18.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN (cont'd)
questions. Would that be alright?

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Thank God.

                       SOPHIE
Sounds good to me.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Alright, well we've concluded that
just over seven thousand dollars
was stolen from your employers
during the robbery.

SOPHIE MAKES AN OVEREXAGERATED SAD EXPRESSION.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Oh, I'm so upset. Wrong, I am not.
If they made that much money in a
day then I should have been making
a lot more than minimum wage.
Sucks to be you, Folcroft Grocers!

                       SOPHIE
How terrible.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Yes, it truly is a rather large
sum of money. But more
Importantly; seeing as the store
didn't have cameras installed we
have to use alternative methods to
identify the perpetrator.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Actually, they said that the
cameras were too expensive and
that they'd rather take their
chances being robbed. Actually in
retrospect, that's fairly
hilarious.

SOPHIE NODS.

19.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
We've had to investigate the
robbery using eye-witness
testimony. We'd like to ask you a
few questions.

                       SOPHIE
Okay, shoot. Well actually, I
guess I shouldn't just throw that
phrase around anymore. So yes,
proceed with the inquisition.

OFFICER FITZPATRICK TAKES OUT A NOTEPAD AS OFFICER SILVERMAN
SITS ON THE EDGE OF SOPHIE'S HOSPITAL BED.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Now Miss Stone, is it true that to
the best of your recollection,
that the gunman was not pointing
the gun directly at you when the
shot was fired?

SOPHIE FURROWS HER BROWS IN CONCENTRATION.

                       SOPHIE
Yeah, he was giving me a warning
shot, I think. I was taking a
really long time to get the cash
out of the tray and the cop- er,
the police cars were getting
closer.

OFFICER SILVERMAN NODS KNOWINGLY.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Well, Miss Stone, that seems to
fall into accordance with the
indentation I found personaly, in
one of the support beams in the
store.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Wow, he is super impressed with
himself for finding that
indentation too. He probably had
to spend days trying to pick it
apart from all the regular
            (MORE)

                       SOPHIE (cont'd)
indentations. He definitely wants
me to question all him about it
too. No way josé, I won't do it.
Infact....

SOPHIE FAKES AN UNCOMFORTABLY LONG YAWN WHILE PRETENDING SHE
CAN'T KEEP HER EYES OPEN.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
We see that your very tired Miss
Stone but we have one more
important question to ask, if we
could?

                       SOPHIE
Mhhm.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Take a hint amigo.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Multiple witnesses have said that
one of the men had instructed the
other to put his mask back on,
while he was behind the register
with you. Would we be correct in
the assumption that you were able
to see the gunman's face?

                       SOPHIE
I guess so? I mean I was pretty
distracted vis-a-vis the whole
being shot thing. I think he had
green eyes and dark brown hair if
that helps. He was actually kind
of a fox actually.

OFFICER FITZPATRICK LETS OUT A SMALL LAUGH WHILE OFFICER
SILVERMAN SHOOTS HIM A GLARE.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Miss Stone would you be able to
identify the gunman from a line-up
then?

21.

                       SOPHIE
Well I could try, but they'd have
to be lined up pretty well. I
would never be able to identify
him from a zigzag formation.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
We'll do our best Miss Stone, I'll
leave our information with your
mother and we'll contact you when
we need you to come in.

THE OFFICERS EXIT THE ROOM. SOPHIE LOOKS AROUND WITH A BORED
EXPRESSION WHISTLING A TURN BEFORE STOPPING AND LIFTING UP
HER BANDAGE TO LOOK AT HER WOUND.

                       SOPHIE
Awesome!

INT. POLICE STATION - DAY

THE EXAMINATION ROOM OF THE POLICE STATION IS SHOWN AS A
SMALL ROOM CONTAINING ONLY A METAL DESK WITH A DOUGHTNUT
TRAY SET ON TOP OF IT AND TWO CHAIRS. SOPHIE IS SITTING ON
ONE OF THE CHAIRS LOOKING BRIGHT-EYED AT THE DOUGHNUTS WHILE
OFFICER SILVERMAN WALKS IN AN SITS DOWN IN THE OTHER CHAIR.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Okay Sophie, so today we'll be
showing you a six person line up
and we'd just like you to see if
you can point out who you believe
to be the gunman. Don't feel
pressured to choose someone if you
don't recognize anyone from the
line-up. Are you ready Sophie?

                       SOPHIE
Yes, I think I've chosen one.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
What?

OFFICER SILVERMAN STARES AT SOPHIE IN CONFUSION.

22.

                       SOPHIE
Boston cream.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
The doughnut?

                       SOPHIE
Yes, I want that one.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Sophie, did you hear what I said
about the line-up?

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
No.

                       SOPHIE
Yes.

OFFICER SILVERMAN LOOKS AT SOPHIE SUSPICIOUSLY.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Okay, I'm just going to ask
Officer Fitzpatrick to bring them
in. You may have a doughnut if you
wish.

SOPHIE QUICKY GRABS A DOUGHTNUT AND MANAGES TO SHOVE THE
ENTIRE THING IN HER MOUTH JUST AS OFFICER SILVERMAN
RE-ENTERS THE ROOM.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN (cont'd)
They're entering now Sophie. Don't
be afraid to look closely, they
can't see you, only you can see
them.

A LINE-UP OF SIX MEN ENTER THE ROOM ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE
ONE WAY WINDOW, MATT ENTERS FOURTH. SOPHIE TRIES TO SPEAK
BUT HER WORDS ARE MUFFLED BY THE DOUGHTNUT IN HER MOUTH.

                       SOPHIE
Mmmph

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Pardom me?

23.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
I guess I should probably not try
to talk just yet. That's definetly
him though, fourth from the left.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Miss Stone, have you identified
the gunman?

SOPHIE BEGINS TO CHEW AT A SLOWER PACE.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Gun wielding aside he's pretty
much a stud. That's probably not a
healthy thought considering popped
a cap in my... lung. I guess he'll
be going to jail then. Kind of a
shame, it's not like he meant to
shoot me. However, he did mean to
rob the store. Oh! Unless he just
happened to be wearing a balclava
that day and eveyone grossly
overreacted!

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Miss Stone?

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
I guess people don't really wear
balclavas in june. Ugh, this is
the worst.

SOPHIE FINALLY SWALLOWS THE DOUGHNUT.

                       SOPHIE
I don't recognize anyone in the
line up.

SOPHIE'S EYES WIDEN IN SURPRISE.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
What? Yes I do!

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Are you sure? You looked like you
were onto something there.

24.

                       SOPHIE
Nope, nothing, I've never seen any
of them before.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Yes I have! What is it this? Note
to mouth: obey brain!

OFFICER SILVERMAN LOOKS SUSPICIOUSLY AT SOPHIE.

                       OFFICER SILVERMAN
Okay, if you're sure.

                       SOPHIE
I'm sure.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.)
Well then! Brain and I aren't
talking to rest of body anymore
then. So ha!

OFFICER SILVERMAN LEAVES TO LET THE LINE-UP OUT AND SOPHIE
TURNS AWAY FROM THE WINDOW ONLY TO RUN DIRECTLY INTO THE
METAL TABLE. SOPHIE GETS UP LOOKING FLUSTERED.

                       SOPHIE (V.O.) (cont'd)
Fine! We'll talk. But minimal
communication!

SCENE ENDS WITH SOPHIE SLAMMING THE DOOR OF THE EXAMINATION
ROOM.

EXT. OUTSIDE POLICE STATION - DAY

THE SCENE OPENS WITH SOPHIE LEAVING THE POLICE STATION. MATT
IS SITTING ON THE STEPS LEADING UP TO THE POLICE STATION
WITH HIS HEAD IN HIS HANDS. SOPHIE SEES HIM AND AFTER A
MOMENTS HESITATION SHE ROLLS EYES AND GOES AND SITS BESIDE
HIM. THEY SIT IN SILENCE FOR A FEW MOMENTS.

                       SOPHIE
Hi.

MATT LOOKS OVER TO SOPHIE AND THE SCENE ENDS.
