User Review:
A New England comedy-drama in the vein of "Superbad" and "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist", “Beantown Nightlife” tells the story of Will & Ashley, two eighteen-year-olds on their last night as high school seniors, before graduation day. The two have been longtime platonic friends, having lived in the same apartment building their whole lives. Will is going to the University of Miami, Ashley is going to New York University. They come across various characters – eccentric people they meet or some friends they know from school, all while trying to find a way to make the most of their night before heading to their last high school party. From the city streets to the subway tunnels, and even the waterfront, Will & Ashley have a memorable night filled with moments, both funny and touching. Because, by the time the sun rises again, hearts will be broken, friendships will be forged, and secrets will be revealed. "Got any plans for the night?"

BEANTOWN NIGHTLIFE
FADE IN:
INT. BEDROOM - DAY |
CLOSE ON an ALARM CLOCK BUZZING on 7:00 AM, and the
MANICURED HAND hitting the snooze button. Then, we PAN OUT
to reveal a pajama-clad ASHLEY NELSON, 18, yawning as she
gets out of bed. Ashley, in terms of looks, could quite
possibly be the prettiest girl in the room, if only she'd
believe it. She leaves her small bedroom. |
SERIES OF SHOTS |
A) From outside the shower curtains, we can hear Ashley
singing in the shower, with the RADIO on.
B) Ashley is now back in her room, putting her shoes on as
she finishes getting dressed.
C) Lastly, Ashley is in front of her beauty mirror, putting
on lip gloss. |
BACK TO SCENE |
We can also see PICTURES lined up along the mirror including
baby pictures, one of Ashley kissing a boyfriend, and
another of her with a male friend. Her CELLPHONE, which is
on the bureau, receives a text message; she checks it. |
INT. APARTMENT |
Ashley walks out of her bedroom, texting away on her
cellphone as she passes by the kitchen, where her parents
are: |
ASHLEY
Bye, Mom. Bye, Dad. |
ASHLEY'S DAD
Bye, Sweetie. |
ASHLEY'S MOM
Have a good day. |
Ashley leaves the apartment. |

EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING |
There is a boy, wearing THIN-RIMMED GLASSES and listening to
an IPOD as he waits outside while carrying a BACKPACK. This
is WILL RANDOLPH, 18, your average American teen and the
male friend from Ashley's picture. He reaches into his
pocket for his CELLPHONE, checking it: |
INSERT - CELLPHONE SCREEN |
Its a text message from Ashley; it reads: "Coming right
out". |
BACK TO SCENE |
Will pockets the phone. As he waits, a police officer
casually walks out of the building while carrying an
OVERNIGHT BAG. This is OFFICER JOHN RANDOLPH, 45, Will's
father. He notices Will: |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Will? I thought you had left. |
WILL
Waiting on Ash, Dad. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Oh, okay. I'm working late
tonight, so I left some money on
the kitchen table, in case you get
hungry. |
WILL
Thanks. Have a good one. |
John gets in his parked TOYOTA and drives off as Ashley
walks out of the building, carrying her BACKPACK: |
ASHLEY
Hey, I got your text. How long
were you out here? |
They walk down the street. |

EXT. STREETS OF DORCHESTER - MINUTES LATER |
Will & Ashley are walking down the street, passing by
numerous people on their way to work and school, as they
talk: |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
Finally, last day before
graduation! |
WILL
(smiling)
Yeah, high school can kiss my ass
now! |
ASHLEY
Yo, I had this weird dream last
night. |
WILL
Oh yeah? What about? |
They head into a convenience store. |
INT. CONVENIENCE STORE |
As they head for the cold drinks: |
ASHLEY (cont'd)
Well, I remember being somewhere
with David and we were making out,
and it felt so real! Then, like,
he walked me home and you were
there, only you didn't look like
you, but I knew you were still
you. |
They reach into the COOLERS; she takes out an ORANGE JUICE,
he gets an ENERGY DRINK. They go to the counter: |
4.
ASHLEY
Anyways, I don't remember much,
except that I was flying...
(re: juice)
Can you get this for me? |
He pays for the drinks, then they leave. |
EXT. CONVENIENCE STORE |
Will & Ashley continue on, sipping their drinks. |
ASHLEY
(re: his drink)
Ugh, I dunno why you drink that
stuff. You know it's gonna kill
you, right? |
WILL
But it tastes so good! |
WILL
Ash, since when have I ever cared? |
ASHLEY
I'm just sayin'... |
WILL
Anyways, bus or train? |
ASHLEY
(looking off)
Uh... train. If I gotta be
somewhere crowded, I rather have
air conditioning too. |
They continue walking, passing a crowded bus stop along the
way. |

EXT. ENGLISH HIGH SCHOOL - ESTABLISH - DAY |
We see plenty of students and faculty amongst the school
grounds. |
INT. ENGLISH HIGH, HISTORY CLASS |
Will is sitting all the way in the back of the full class;
the teacher is talking, but his facial expression indicates
that he is daydreaming. Moments later, a cute senior girl,
sitting two seats down from Will, turns back to him. This is
AVA PARIS, 18, Will's girlfriend. She chuckles to herself at
the sight of his daydreaming. Ava starts making faces to get
his attention. It works. Next, she begins to blow kisses at
him; Will can't help but chuckle to himself. Then, the
SCHOOL BELL RINGS (OS). Everyone gets up. |
INT. CAFETERIA - LATER |
As the cafeteria fills with numerous STUDENTS, Will sits by
a windowsill, zoning out to the tunes playing on his iPod.
Ava walks up to him: |
WILL
(taking off
headphones)
Wassup? |
She kisses him. |
AVA
You didn't call me yesterday. |
WILL
Sorry. Ashley was helping me apply
for scholarships. |
AVA
(sarcastically)
Oh right, your side piece. |
WILL
"Side piece"? Um... what's that
supposed to mean? |
6.
AVA
Well, I mean, you're always
spending time with her... |
WILL
Ava, she's my best friend -- am I
not allowed to? |
AVA
Look, all I'm saying is that you
two spend way too much time
together. |
WILL
We've been neighbors since, like,
kindergarten; I see her pretty
much every day! I really don't see
why you're stressin'! |
AVA
It's just sometimes I get
uncomfortable with how close you
guys can be -- |
WILL
(getting up)
Oh, come on! I'm sorry, but this
right here? It's bullshit. I'm-I'm
going to class, if that's alright
with you. I'm not gonna argue with
you over who I decide to spend my
time with. I'll see you later. |
He picks up his backpack and leaves the cafeteria. |
INT. ENGLISH CLASS |
The whole class is quiet while doing their assignment.
Ashley is sitting at a table, with her friend BRENDA
ROSARIO, 18. Brenda is Ashley's Hispanic friend, who hides
her beauty behind a pair of STYLISH GLASSES which only
accentuate this fact. They whisper as they converse: |
BRENDA
So, how's things goin' with NYU? |
ASHLEY
I got accepted. I found out a few
days ago, so I just need to
finalize every thing. |
7.
BRENDA
You getting a dorm? |
ASHLEY
Well, it's a co-ed building, but I
doubt my roommate will be a guy. |
BRENDA
(smiling)
That's a damn shame, Ashley.
That's why I can't wait 'til I
start going to Salem State, with
all the fine college boys. |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
Ah, typical Brenda, always
thinking about boys. I'm sure
gonna miss that. |
BRENDA
Well, you got it easy - you got
David. And if not, then there's
always Will. |
ASHLEY
(beat; realizing)
Wait, why'd you say Will? |
BRENDA
(smiling)
C'mon, I'm not stupid. Everywhere
you go, there he is. I mean Will's
cute, I guess, but what's kept
things under control is the fact
that you go out with a football
player. And I don't think he wants
to mess with David. |
ASHLEY
Okay, first off, Will and I are
just friends. And second, there's
nothing to "keep under control",
David knows that Will's my best
friend, and he's fine with that. |
8.
BRENDA
Yeah, but how long will it be 'til
he puts the moves on you. I mean,
come on, it's bound to happen. |
INT. SCHOOL HALLWAYS - LATER |
As Brenda & Ashley walk out of their classroom, we see a
jock, wearing a BULLDOGS SHIRT (the school's football team),
approach the girls from behind. This is DAVID RODRIGUEZ, 19,
Ashley's Hispanic boyfriend. He hugs Ashley from behind, she
smiles at this: |
DAVID
(kisses her)
Hey, Baby. |
DAVID
I missed you. I was thinking about
you all morning. |
BRENDA
Aww... I wish I had someone to
tell me that. |
DAVID
Actually, Brenda, I heard
someone's been crushing on you all
year. |
DAVID
(shrugs)
I dunno. Maybe you'll find out
tonight, at the party. You two are
going, right? |
9.
BRENDA
(to David)
At Byron's place, right? |
BRENDA
(to Ashley)
I'll go. You? |
ASHLEY
Uh... I'll think about it. |
Will shows up, passing by: |
DAVID
Byron's throwin' a party, you
goin'? |
WILL
(sighs)
Haven't decided yet. Besides, I've
been doing college stuff lately. |
DAVID
Oh yeah? Where're you headed? |
WILL
University of Miami. You? |
DAVID
I got a football scholarship to
BC. |
WILL
Cool. Well, I gotta go. I'll see
you later, Ash. |
Will continues on, while the rest go their own way. |
10.
INT. RANDOLPH APARTMENT - LATE AFTERNOON |
Will enters this nice, quaint apartment. It's quiet as he
sets down his backpack on the couch. Then, he heads for the
kitchen. |
INT. KITCHEN |
Will reaches into the refrigerator for some juice. When he
closes the door, he observes one of the PICTURES on the
door. |
INSERT - PHOTOGRAPH |
It's a family photo of John, wearing his uniform, with
Will's mother and Will, around age ten. All looking very
happy. |
BACK TO SCENE |
Will drinks out of the bottle, before replacing it in the
fridge. |
INT. KITCHEN - EVENING |
There is a CANDLE lit in front of Will (and a picture of his
mother) on the kitchen counter, as he says a small prayer: |
WILL
(finishing prayer)
... And guide her, Heavenly
Father. Keep her, and protect us.
Especially my dad. His job is
unpredictable as it is, and he's
all I've got left. Thank you,
Lord. Amen. |
Once finished, Will's cellphone starts RINGING (OS). He
answers: |
ASHLEY
(from phone)
Hey. I'm at the door. |
11.
He hangs up, and walks out the kitchen. |
INT. LIVING ROOM |
Will heads to the front door and opens it; Ashley steps in. |
ASHLEY
'Had nothin' to do, so I came
over. Is that okay? |
WILL
Hey, you know my door's always
open. |
He sits on the couch. |
ASHLEY
I see the candle's lit... |
WILL
Yeah... Mom's been gone for two
years today. |
ASHLEY
I still can't believe she's gone.
I loved her so much. |
WILL
She loved you too. Anyways, I was
just about to go get some food.
You hungry? |
ASHLEY
Sure, I can eat. What're you
having? |
WILL
Pizza, down the street. |
He gets his keys before they leave the apartment. |
12.
EXT. PIZZA SHOP - ESTABLISH - NIGHT |
A local pizza shop, somewhere in Boston. |
INT. PIZZA SHOP |
Will & Ashley are the only customers sitting in the shop, as
they both eat a SLICE OF PIZZA each. |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
Remember that time, during the
homecoming game, when the freshmen
pulled that prank on the seniors? |
WILL
(chuckles)
Oh yeah, when they put glue on the
bleachers! I ripped my pants that
night, and my dad was giving me
shit about it. |
ASHLEY
(laughing)
And everyone looked like they were
wearing ass-less chaps! |
WILL
Yeah, well lucky for you, David
didn't play that game, so you
didn't have to go. |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
Yeah, lucky me. Hey, remember when
we were little, and my parents
hired that clown for my birthday
party? |
WILL
(smiling)
Yo, that's something I don't wanna
remember. That clown gave me
nightmares for a year. I couldn't
look at anything that had a clown
on it, without pissing my pants! |
13.
ASHLEY
(chuckles)
You're such a punk!
(beat)
So, are you going to the party? |
ASHLEY
Why not? Will, it's all the way in
Revere and I don't wanna drag my
ass there, unless you're going. |
WILL
So? All of our friends will be
there, I don't have to go. |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
That's fucked up! You're supposed
to be my buddy, how're you just
gonna leave me hanging like that? |
WILL
Look, even if I was to go, I
wouldn't go now, all because it's
too early. |
ASHLEY
Then, what do you wanna do? |
WILL
I'll chill anywhere. But know that
if the party sucks, I'm gonna be
pissed. |
WILL
(beat; sighs)
Yeah, I guess. |
She smiles as they finish eating. |
EXT. PIZZA SHOP - MINUTES LATER |
Having finished their food, Will and Ashley step out of the
pizza shop, but his cellphone RINGS. He answers it: |
14.
INT. HOUSE - SAME |
This is a nice house, that has the lights dimmed down right
now. |
On the other line is VICTOR, 18, one of Will's Hispanic
friends and Brenda's stepbrother. He's sitting on the couch,
watching TV: |
VICTOR
(into phone)
Yo, yo! |
INTERCUTTING |
VICTOR
I'm bored as shit, man! 'Checking
to see if you wanted to come
through and do somethin' tonight. |
WILL
I'm with Ashley right now -- |
VICTOR
Bring her along, the more the
merrier! |
WILL
A'ight. What do you wanna do? |
VICTOR
Anything that'll get me out of the
house. |
WILL
We'll be there soon. |
They hang up. |
15.
WILL
Ash, feel like goin' to Victor's
house? |
EXT. VICTOR'S HOUSE - ESTABLISHING |
It's a quaint, two story home somewhere in Hyde Park. Will &
Ashley walk up to the front door. |
INT. VICTOR'S HOUSE |
Victor opens the door, letting Will and Ashley in. |
He closes the door behind, and they follow him to the living
room. |
WILL
All right, now that we're here,
what do we do? |
VICTOR
I dunno, man, it's whatever. I
heard there's a party goin' on
tonight. |
ASHLEY
Yeah, it's at Byron's house, in
Revere. |
VICTOR
Ah, Byron? I don't even like him! |
ASHLEY
Am I the only one here that's
showing any enthusiasm towards
this party? |
16.
WILL
(smart-aleck)
Haven't you noticed? |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
Shut up! |
VICTOR
Hey, look, all I know is that it's
a friday night - my last friday
night as a senior, and I'm not
gonna spend it at home. If this
party's all that's happening, then
I'm cool wit' it. |
ASHLEY
Yeah, well the party's gonna have
to wait. Will wants to be
"fashionably late". |
VICTOR
(taken aback)
'The fuck for? |
WILL
She's just makin' shit up, man.
But I really don't feel like goin'
at this time. What place is open
right now? |
VICTOR
I'm pretty sure some people are
chillin' over at Boston Bowl. I
know Brenda's there. |
ASHLEY
(grinning)
Yeah, so I can kick your ass in a
game of pool. |
WILL
(scoffs)
Yeah, a'ight! I taught YOU how to
play, remember? |
Victor gets his KEYS, before leaving the house. |
17.
EXT. BOSTON BOWL - ESTABLISH - NIGHT |
Boston Bowl is a popular hangout spot for teens, and tonight
reinforces that fact as there are plenty of cars parked
outside and some teens (as well as people in their early
twenties) hanging out with friends. |
INT. BOSTON BOWL |
The inside of the bowling alley looks the same as outside,
with an abundance of youth either talking or bowling or
playing pool. Will, Ashley and Victor walk in. They greet
friends as they make their way around. Brenda approaches
them: |
VICTOR
(to Brenda)
Hey, Sis. |
BRENDA
Hey. Yo, you didn't forget your
keys, did you? Mami was pissed
that we woke up her last time! |
VICTOR
Relax, I got 'em with me. So,
who's here? |
BRENDA
Just about everyone from school. |
BRENDA
(takes her hand)
Ashley, come on. |
Brenda takes Ashley to the lanes where some friends are.
Will and Victor head to the pool tables, where some more
friends are. Among those playing at a table are BRANDON (19)
and QUINCY (18), two of the boys' classmates: |
BRANDON
(smiling)
Oh shit! Look who's here! |
VICTOR
(giving dap)
Waz good, Brandon? |
18.
BRANDON
Chillin', man, shootin' some pool.
Wassup, Will? |
WILL
(smiling)
Waz good? Wassup, Quincy? |
WILL
Yo, how 'bout a doubles game? Me
and Vic against y'all two. |
BRANDON
We playin' for money, my dude. |
Victor lays down a TEN DOLLAR BILL in the middle of the
table: |
Brandon & Quincy look at each other, considering the
challenge, then: |
QUINCY
(grinning)
Rack 'em up! |
They start racking up the balls; Brandon breaks first. |
INT. CANDLEPIN LANES |
Brenda & Ashley are sitting down amongst friends, male and
female, while watching some other friends bowl. |
BRENDA
So, tell me, what's up for
tonight? |
BRENDA
You goin' to the party? |
ASHLEY
Yeah, when Will goes. |
19.
BRENDA
(smiling)
Damn, girl, I didn't know he had
you on a leash! |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
Whatever! Hey, have you seen
David? |
BRENDA
Yeah, he was at the arcade, last I
saw him. Anyways, what are your
plans after graduation? |
ASHLEY
I dunno. Haven't thought about it,
why? |
BRENDA
Me and some girls are planning a
trip. |
BRENDA
(smiling)
Amsterdam, girl! |
ASHLEY
(chuckles)
Get the fuck outta here! Are you
serious? |
BRENDA
Mmm-hmm. Well, that's one of the
places we might go - but
definitely in Europe. |
ASHLEY
But I don't have any money,
though. |
BRENDA
Not a problem. My rich aunt is
giving me anything I want, as a
graduation gift. She never had any
kids of her own, so she thinks of
me as one. I asked her for money
for the trip. |
20.
ASHLEY
And she's fine with that? |
ASHLEY
What's Victor getting? |
BRENDA
Nothing, he's my stepbrother, and
she's MY rich aunt. |
ASHLEY
(beat)
Well, it sounds cool, but I'll
have to give it some thought.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to
go, but I gotta see if I can. |
Ashley gets up and walks away, bumping into David as he
walks out of the arcade: |
He gives her a small kiss: |
DAVID
When'd you get here? |
DAVID
'Didn't know you were coming. |
DAVID
Where're you headed to now? |
21.
DAVID
C'mon, I'll go with you. |
He puts an arm around her as they walk to the pool hall. |
INT. POOL HALL |
Ashley & David walk up to the pool table where Will & Victor
are playing, just in time to see them win as Victor pockets
the last ball. |
VICTOR
(to Brandon)
Alright, pay up! |
BRANDON
(handing money)
Man, you got lucky! |
DAVID
Aye yo! Can I play a game wit'
y'all? |
WILL
(handing pool cue)
Go ahead. I'm done. |
David takes the pool cue while Quincy rakes up the balls
again. As Will and Ashley take a seat nearby, a few other
JOCKS, wearing PURPLE AND WHITE TEES bearing a WOLF'S PAW,
approach the pool table; these jocks, led by JEREMY (18),
are from Boston Latin School -- English High's rival. |
DAVID
(noticing)
What do you want, Jeremy? |
JEREMY
(grinning)
How 'bout a little game? |
JEREMY
Oh, come on! You're not still mad
over that thanksgiving loss, are
you? |
22.
DAVID
Nigga, you cheated! English High
should've won, not Boston Latin!
'Matter of fact, why are you
here?! |
JEREMY
(matter-of-fact)
It's a public place, David, why
not? |
DAVID
(beat)
Tell you what, I will play you.
But if I win, you guys leave. |
QUINCY
Yo, D, I paid for the table. I
ain't tryin' to lose my money. |
JEREMY
(smirking)
Alright, then. You're on. |
Jeremy motions for Brandon to pass his pool cue, he does.
David breaks, starting a game of 8-Ball. |
WILL
(to Ashley)
I'll be back. |
He gets up and walks off. |
INT. DEADWOOD CAFE & BREWERY |
The Deadwood Cafe is the restaurant area of Boston Bowl;
people can sit and eat here, restaurant-style, but there is
also a counter at which you can quickly get your food. |
23.
Will walks up to the counter as a YOUNG FEMALE CASHIER
finishes attending a customer: |
WILL
Can I get a Sprite please? |
She gets a cup and starts filling it from the fountain. Ava
walks into the building with some friends. She notices Will
and approaches him as he pays for his soda: |
She kisses him. |
AVA
What're you doing here? |
WILL
Hanging out with Ashley. You? |
AVA
Hanging out with friends. |
WILL
(sipping soda)
Cool. |
He hands her his soda, and she takes a sip from it. |
AVA
How long you're gonna be here for? |
AVA
Me and my friends might go for a
drive later on. I want you to
come. |
24.
AVA
Anywhere, it doesn't matter. |
AVA
(smiling)
C'mon, let's go to the arcade! |
She takes him by the hand and leads him to the arcade. |
INT. POOL HALL |
Back at the pool table, David wins the game against Jeremy. |
DAVID
(smiling)
Alright, a deal's a deal, Jeremy.
Now get'cha ass outta here! |
Jeremy is clearly upset at the loss: |
JEREMY
Fine!
(to his teammates)
Let's go! |
Jeremy and his teammates leave. David sets his pool cue on
the table before heading over to Ashley. |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
I guess you evened the score,
Baby. |
DAVID
(grinning)
Yeah. Hey, listen, can we go
somewhere private? I wanna talk to
you about something. |
They walk out. |
EXT. BOSTON BOWL, PARKING LOT |
25.
There is still activity going on outside Boston Bowl, as
David & Ashley walk out to his car, a HONDA CIVIC. They sit
on the hood of his car as he reaches into his pocket for
something while she looks around: |
DAVID
(beat)
Ashley, I wanna ask you something. |
DAVID
What are your thoughts, on the
future? |
ASHLEY
To be honest with you, my mind's
on the here and now. My dad once
told me if you plan too much for
the future, you're setting
yourself up for disappointment.
And I don't want that for myself.
Why do you ask? |
DAVID
Oh, naw, 'cause I figured since
we've been together since
sophomore year, then why not ask,
right? |
ASHLEY
(concerned)
Wait, were you... you weren't
gonna propose to me, were you...? |
DAVID
Huh? No. I mean, I love you,
but... I guess I'm just caught up
in the moment of graduating. |
ASHLEY
Oh. Okay.
(nervous chuckle)
Sorry. |
CLOSE ON - DAVID'S HAND |
He's actually holding a DIAMOND RING, but he hides it in his
pocket. |
26.
INT. BOSTON BOWL, ARCADE - SAME |
Will & Ava are playing air hockey together. Both are having
fun, but she ultimately wins. |
AVA
(smiling)
Yes! I knew I'd beat you! |
WILL
Yeah, you did. I feel like playin'
a different game. |
AVA
C'mon, maybe you can win me
something. |
She takes him by the hand to the basketball games, almost
dragging him along. |
EXT. BOSTON BOWL, PARKING LOT |
Back on David and Ashley, who sit in an uncomfortable
silence, then: |
DAVID
Tell me something about Will. |
ASHLEY
What do you wanna know? |
DAVID
(shrugs)
Anything. Like, how'd you two
meet? |
ASHLEY
We met when we were kids. I had
just moved to his building and he
was the first boy I saw. I didn't
have any friends, so Will made
sure that I felt welcomed; we've
been to the same school since
kindergarten. He's always been
there for me... |
DAVID
Sounds like a real friend. |
27.
ASHLEY
He's my best friend. |
DAVID
Has he ever been... more than a
friend? |
ASHLEY
(concerned)
Why do you ask? |
ASHLEY
You know, if you feel
uncomfortable or anything, just
come out and say it! |
DAVID
I'm not uncomfortable, or even
jealous -- ! |
ASHLEY
(stands up)
Then, why the questions? |
DAVID
Well, I was hearing rumors all
year, and I even noticed some
things myself! |
ASHLEY
What? What have you noticed,
David? Tell me! |
DAVID
(beat)
You know what? Forget it. I'm
sorry. |
ASHLEY
I'm going back inside. |
Ashley heads back into Boston Bowl. |
INT. BOSTON BOWL |
Ashley walks into the building, clearly upset, as Will & Ava
walk out of the arcade. Ava is holding a TEDDY BEAR (that
Will must've won), when they spot Ashley: |
28.
WILL
(noticing)
You okay? What's wrong? |
ASHLEY
N-Nothing. What's up? |
WILL
I'm goin' for a drive with Ava and
some people. |
ASHLEY
Should I come along...? |
AVA
Oh no, that's okay. There's not
enough room in the car, anyway. |
ASHLEY
Ohhkayy... well, I'll be with
Brenda. |
WILL
Alright. You sure you're gonna be
okay? |
ASHLEY
Oh yeah, don't worry! |
WILL
Well, give me a call if anything. |
Will and Ava leave as Ashley heads back to the lanes. But
Will looks back, concerned. |
INT. CANDLEPIN LANES |
Ashley finds Brenda still sitting amongst her friends when
she approaches her: |
29.
ASHLEY
Hey, Brenda, you mind getting out
of here with me? |
BRENDA
What's wrong, Ash? |
ASHLEY
I just need to get out of here. |
BRENDA
Sure. Some of us are gonna get
something to eat anyway. Come with
us. |
BRENDA
(to her friends)
Hey, come on! I'm hungry! |
Brenda puts an arm around Ashley, walking out as their small
group of friends follow behind. |
EXT. DONUT SHOP - ESTABLISH - NIGHT |
A local donut shop in the middle of Dorchester; we see a
POLICE CAR parked outside. |
INT. DONUT SHOP |
As the two employees inside are cleaning up, John and his
partner, OFFICER MIKE DANIELS (40), are the only customers
sitting at a table; drinking coffee and eating donuts. Mike
is eating his donuts when he notices John just staring out
the window, in deep thought. |
OFC. DANIELS
What's the matter, John? |
30.
OFC. DANIELS
I said what's the matter? You
haven't said a word in the last
ten minutes. And you're usually
chatty this time at night. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
(sighs)
Ah... I don't know, Mike. My
mind's been on a lot of things
lately. |
OFC. DANIELS
(sipping coffee)
Like what? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Have you ever thought maybe you've
got a handle on things in your
life, until there comes a time
when you realize you're still
unprepared? |
OFC. DANIELS
How you mean? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Today's the two-year anniversary
of my wife's death. |
OFC. DANIELS
How'd she die? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Cancer. Since then, it's been just
me and my son. And even though
we've been doing okay, I feel
things are gonna get harder when
he leaves for college. |
OFC. DANIELS
Where's he studying? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
University of Miami. |
OFC. DANIELS
Wow... that's a long way from
here. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Yeah. I've never felt so alone in
my life. |
31.
OFC. DANIELS
Well, 'kid's gotta leave the nest
at some point. Don't you have any
family? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
In-laws and a brother that hates
me for being a cop. And neighbors
that are close enough to be called
family. |
OFC. DANIELS
Hey, man, don't lose sleep over
it. Maybe this is just a good
old-fashioned wake up call. You
need to just take it easy on
yourself, and everything will work
itself out. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
I hope you're right. |
DISPATCHER (OS)
(from radio)
We have a domestic disturbance on
East Cottage and Sumner Street. |
OFC. DANIELS
(into radio)
Car ninety-eight is on it. Let's
go, partner. |
They get up and leave the shop. |
EXT. REVERE BEACH - LATER |
There is a small LIGHT SOURCE on the beach with a few teens
drinking and partying, with music playing from an unknown
source nearby. Two vehicles, a SEDAN and an SUV, pull up and
park nearby. More TEENS step out of the cars and onto the
beach, including Ava & Will. She playfully jumps on his back
and he carries her the rest of the way to the bonfire. When
they get there: |
AVA
(smiling)
Whoo! Wassup! |
They are greeted by a fellow graduate named ANNA, 18. She
and Ava hug: |
32.
ANNA
Hey, girl, we made it! |
AVA
(smiling)
I know, right? |
ANNA
(unenthused)
Oh. Hey, Will. |
She hugs him, but doesn't seem too happy to see him. Then: |
AVA
Anna, is there any beers left? |
Anna takes her by the hand, and over to a COOLER. They reach
in for a beer, while they have their privacy. |
ANNA
(re: Will)
Ava, what's he doing here? |
AVA
(sipping beer)
What do you mean? |
ANNA
Why is Will here? I thought you
said you two would be done by
graduation. |
ANNA
But when? I'm tired of seeing you
acting like you're happy with him;
especially when he got another
girl around all the damn time!
Stop playing yourself. |
AVA
(smiling)
Come on, it's me! How many dudes
want me? |
33.
ANNA
(smiling)
A whole lot! But they'll soon
forget about you if you still got
baggage. |
AVA
(chuckles)
You're such a bitch! |
ANNA
(smiling)
Hey, a bitch that cares about you! |
They laugh as they continue drinking. |
EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING |
A WOMAN, of about mid-thirties, is standing outside the
building when John's squad car pulls up. He and Mike step
out of the car and walk up to the woman, noticing bruises on
her face: |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Good evening, Ma'am. I'm Officer
Randolph, this is Officer Daniels.
Tell us what happened. |
BRUISED WOMAN
(crying)
He's crazy! He's fucking crazy! |
OFC. DANIELS
Calm down, Miss. Who's crazy? |
BRUISED WOMAN
My husband! The shithead's still
upstairs, drunk! |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Is he the one who hit you? |
BRUISED WOMAN
Yes! He came home and I smelled
some other bitch's perfume all
over him. But when I confronted
him about it, he punched me. And
not just once, but twice! I'm
gonna kill the motherfucker!! |
34.
OFC. DANIELS
No, you're not. We'll take care of
it. In the mean time, I want you
to go to a neighbor's house and
call the paramedics so they can
take a look at your bruises. Okay? |
BRUISED WOMAN
(nodding)
Okay? |
They head into the building. |
INT. APARTMENT BUILDING, 2ND FLOOR |
John and Mike approach the apartment door. They hear LOUD
MUSIC (OS), causing John to BANG on the door. |
OFC. DANIELS
BOSTON PD, OPEN UP! |
He gets no answer so he bangs on the door again. Then
suddenly BOOM BOOM -- two SHOTS are fired at the door,
narrowly missing John's head! He and Mike instinctively take
cover on opposite sides of the door, as they draw their
PISTOLS. |
INT. APARTMENT - SAME |
Inside, the DRUNKEN HUSBAND, mid-30s, is holding a bottle of
VODKA in one hand, and a REVOLVER in the other: |
DRUNKEN HUSBAND
Get the fuck outta here, cops!! |
He FIRES two more shots at the door. |
EXT. APARTMENT - SAME |
John and Mike duck away from the shots. John peers through
one of the BULLET HOLES in the door, then: |
OFC. RANDOLPH
(whispers; to
Daniels)
He's got a revolver! |
35.
One last shot is fired, then: |
INT. APARTMENT |
John peers through the hole again, and sees the drunkard
firing blanks now. He and Mike KICK in the door and TACKLE
the husband to the floor. Mike handcuffs him: |
OFC. DANIELS
You're under arrest for domestic
abuse, and firing a weapon at an
officer! |
He picks him up and walks him out. John stands there,
visibly shaken. He then walks out. |
EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING |
As John and Mike escort the drunken husband outside, they
see paramedics treating the wife inside an ambulance. When
Mike puts the husband in the back of the squad car, he
notices John looking shaken. |
OFC. DANIELS
(concerned)
John, you okay?
(no answer)
C'mon, let's go. |
They get in the squad car and drive off. |
EXT. MCDONALD'S - ESTABLISH - NIGHT |
There's very few cars parked outside this McDonald's,
located near a gas station on Mass Ave. |
INT. MCDONALD'S |
We see Ashley & Brenda, sitting at their own table and
sipping sodas, with their group of friends eating nearby. |
ASHLEY
Brenda, can I ask you something? |
36.
ASHLEY
(beat)
Have you ever felt like you were
trapped in a box, and the more you
try to get out, the smaller you
feel that box getting? |
BRENDA
(confused)
I'm not getting you... |
ASHLEY
Okay, like, all four years of high
school... no, all my life
actually, I've been lying to
people. To everyone I know. And
every time I feel like I'm in the
clear, things get more
complicated. |
BRENDA
What makes you say that? |
ASHLEY
(beat; softly)
You were all right... I like Will. |
BRENDA
(taken aback)
Are you serious? Ashley, I was
just joking -- |
ASHLEY
No, you were right. I've liked him
for a long time now. |
BRENDA
Why are you telling me this? Why
not tell him? |
ASHLEY
Like I said, it's complicated.
Look, every time I'm with Will, I
feel better about myself, you
know? Like... being with David is
nice, but I tend to feel empty
sometimes. And the worse part is
my relationship with him got
serious. |
37.
BRENDA
Yeah, I see what you mean. My
suggestion, though, is to just
tell the truth. I mean, you're
both going to different states
pretty soon... and you're not
getting any younger. |
Ashley knows she's right. |
EXT. ENGLISH HIGH, FOOTBALL FIELD - NIGHT |
There is a handful of JOCKS and CUTE GIRLS messing around on
the empty football field while they drink. Up on the
bleachers is David, sitting by himself. He observes his
friends' party, while one of them approaches with a beer in
hand; this is TRAVIS, 18, one of the African-American
football players. |
TRAVIS
Yo, waz good? How come you ain't
joinin' us? |
DAVID
(sighs)
I'm just kinda out of it, really. |
TRAVIS
Oh yeah?
(sitting down)
Well, what's up, man? Talk to me. |
DAVID
You really wanna know? |
TRAVIS
Dawg, we're teammates. Tell me
what's on your mind. |
DAVID
(beat; nodding)
Alright. I was gonna propose to
Ashley tonight. |
DAVID
No shit. But, she shot me down
without even knowing. |
38.
DAVID
I asked for her thoughts on the
future and she said she wasn't
thinking about the future. |
TRAVIS
Well, why would she, man? She's
eighteen! |
DAVID
I know. But, to ruin the moment
even more, we got into an
argument. |
DAVID
(shaking his head)
Forget it. You don't wanna know. |
DAVID
It was over her friend Will. |
TRAVIS
Why am I not surprised? |
DAVID
What makes you say that? |
TRAVIS
You forget, bro, we go to the same
school. Or at least went, anyway.
I saw them through the halls --
always looked more than friendly
to me. |
DAVID
So, you think the rumors are true? |
TRAVIS
What, that they fuckin'? |
39.
TRAVIS
Uh... don't mind me, beer's
talkin'. Anyways, if you mean that
they got something goin' on, then
yeah, I believe so. |
DAVID
So, what should I do? |
TRAVIS
Personally, I don't think you need
her. But, that's up to you.
Besides, you're going to college
on a football scholarship -- you
already got pussy reserved for
you! |
They chuckle at this. |
TRAVIS (cont'd)
(smiling)
But for now, I suggest you stop
this boo-hooin', and go talk to
one of those girls down there! |
DAVID
(smiling)
A'ight, let's go. |
TRAVIS
That's more damn like it! |
They head back down to the field. David gets a beer from a
nearby cooler as he approaches one of the girls; a pretty
young thing named MONICA, 17: |
David puts an arm around her as they walk away for privacy.
He looks back at Travis, grinning. |
EXT. BOSTON POLICE STATION - ESTABLISH - LATER |
We're looking at the precinct across from Dudley Station. |
40.
INT. POLICE STATION, HOLDING CELL |
Mike puts the drunken husband inside the holding cell, along
with a dozen other criminals. He then closes the cell door,
and leaves the area. |
INT. LOCKER ROOM |
John is alone in the locker room, sitting on the bench. His
uniform shirt is off as well as his holster. He's very
contemplative as he stares at the floor. Mike walks in: |
OFC. DANIELS
John?
(no answer)
John, talk to me. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
What's there to talk about...? |
OFC. DANIELS
C'mon, man, you've been like this
since the bust. What's wrong? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Back at that apartment building, I
should've died. That man was drunk
and fired a forty-four at us. The
first two shots whizzed by my
head, and I felt it! |
OFC. RANDOLPH
(stands up)
"So what?!" That was an act of
God, man! |
OFC. DANIELS
Oh, come on! Don't tell me you're
gonna get all Pulp Fiction on me
now! |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Mike, try to comprehend what I'm
telling you here! I should be
fucking dead! |
41.
OFC. DANIELS
But, you're not! Alright!? Look,
if you wanna change things and
take the fuckin' bullet, then I'll
get my gun and shoot you myself!
Just try to appreciate the goddamn
fact that you're still breathing. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
You just don't get it do you -- ? |
OFC. DANIELS
No, you don't, John. Look, I'm not
a religious man, but even I can
appreciate a miracle every now and
then. I'm just glad I didn't have
to break the bad news to your son
tonight. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
(beat)
Then consider me retired as of
tonight. |
John walks out of the locker room. |
EXT. REVERE BEACH - LATER |
Will is sitting alone, watching everyone else do their
thing. Ava approaches him while still holding her beer.
She's slightly drunk. |
WILL
(beat)
Ava, are you drunk? |
WILL
How many beers have you had? |
AVA
I dunno, a couple. What's the big
deal? |
42.
WILL
You're drunk, that's what! |
AVA
No, I'm not! Now, do you wanna
dance with me? |
WILL
You know I don't dance. And even
if I did, I wouldn't want to now. |
WILL
'Cause you're fuckin' drunk! Look
at you - you can't even stand
straight! |
AVA
No, I'm not, Will!
(leans towards him)
Kiss me... |
WILL
(moving away)
No, get the fuck off me! |
AVA
Fine! I'll go dance with someone
else! |
Ava heads off, stumbling along the way. She walks up to one
of the male classmates; after exchanging words, they dance
together. A male teen, holding a beer, approaches Will. Call
him DEVON, 19 and African-American. |
WILL
(smiling)
What up, Devon? |
DEVON
Chillin', chillin'.
(re: argument)
What was all that about? |
43.
WILL
Nothin', she's just actin' stupid.
Anyways, what's been up, man?
'Haven't seen you in two months. |
DEVON
'Got my girl pregnant. |
DEVON
(sipping beer)
Mmm-hmm. |
WILL
Damn. Should I be happy or...? |
DEVON
Hey, it's whatever, man. I'm cool
wit' it. |
WILL
Cool. So, if you dropped out, then
how come you're here? |
DEVON
People wanted me to come through.
I heard Byron's throwin' me a
party anyway. |
WILL
I thought the party was for
graduation. No offense. |
DEVON
It is. But I'm goin' to the army,
the same day y'all graduate. |
WILL
(taken aback)
Get out. |
DEVON
(grinning)
Shit, I'm surprised too. But its
for the best - I gotta take care
of my kid, and my woman. We
(MORE)
44.
DEVON (cont'd)
plannin' to get married. |
WILL
Yo, that's wassup. I'm happy for
you. |
DEVON
Thanks. We all gotta man up at
some point, right? |
DEVON
But, yo, what you been up to? |
WILL
(sighs)
Me? I've just been keepin' my eye
on the prize, man. |
DEVON
You goin' to college? |
WILL
Yeah, University of Miami. |
DEVON
Word? I wanted to go there, while
I was still in school. Was
thinking about gettin' a
scholarship and playing wide
receiver. |
WILL
That would've been cool seeing you
there. You still can, though,
while in the army. |
DEVON
True, but we'll see. Anyways, you
still cool with Ashley? |
DEVON
I used to work for her pops, doin'
carpentry. Tell her I said hi. |
45.
WILL
A'ight, no problem.
(noticing)
Yo, hold on a sec. |
Will heads off towards the main group. Reveal: Ava dancing
with her male friend; she's kissing him while he's grabbing
her ass. Will pushes the guy off: |
PARTY BOY #1
'The fuck is your problem, man?! |
WILL
You putting your hands on my girl,
that's my fuckin' problem! |
PARTY BOY #1
(to Ava)
Yo, is this your man? |
WILL
'The fuck you mean "no"?! |
AVA
It's exactly what I mean! You're
not my man, Will, not anymore! |
AVA
Because, your mind is always on
that bitch, Ashley! You don't care
about me, you care about her! |
WILL
(realizing)
Oh, I see what this is -- you're
jealous! |
AVA
No, but clearly you are. What do I
need to be jealous for? |
46.
WILL
That's a very good question! You
seem to hate my social life.
Ashley's never done anything to
you! |
AVA
She stole my boyfriend! |
WILL
There's nothing going on between
us! |
AVA
Just like there's nothing going on
between US!! |
Anna joins in the argument while everyone else watches: |
ANNA
Face it, Will, she doesn't want
you here. We don't want you here! |
WILL
Then, why the fuck was I invited?!
I had better shit to do! |
ANNA
I don't know why you're here. I
don't even like you, just leave! |
WILL
You think I give a shit what you
say?! You sucked a teacher's dick,
just so he wouldn't snitch on you
for burning in school! |
Anna's taken aback by this tidbit of information, which is
probably true given her reaction: |
WILL (cont'd)
(chuckles)
What, you didn't think I'd know?
Hell, the whole school knows! I
even heard him telling some
people! |
ANNA
(hitting him)
GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!! I
FUCKING HATE YOU!! |
47.
WILL
WITH PLEASURE, BITCH!! And fuck
you, Ava, we're through! |
Will begins to leave, while Anna begins to cry. |
DEVON
Yo, Will, you need a ride? |
WILL
Naw, it's cool. I'm takin' the
train. |
He leaves the beach. |
EXT. REVERE BEACH STATION (BLUE LINE) - MINUTES LATER |
Will, still upset, heads inside the train station. |
INT. REVERE BEACH STATION, PLATFORM |
The outdoor station is empty inside, with the exception of a
HOMELESS MAN (50), lying on a bench. Will arrives and sits
on the same bench, ignoring the homeless man, until: |
HOMELESS MAN
(noticing)
Hey... you got any spare change? |
WILL
(checking pockets)
Uh...
(hands coins)
Here, that's all I can give. |
Will stares off, contemplating as the Homeless Man sits up
next to him. A beat goes by until the Homeless Man breaks
the silence: |
HOMELESS MAN
What's the matter, kid? |
WILL
Huh? Oh, I just broke up with my
girlfriend. |
48.
HOMELESS MAN
Was it a bad one? |
WILL
More than you can imagine. |
WILL
Can I ask you somethin'? |
WILL
Have you ever...I don't know,
like, was just unable to keep your
mind off something? No matter how
hard you tried? |
HOMELESS MAN
Every single day of my life. A
year ago, my wife left me because
I lost my job. |
HOMELESS MAN
I was an engineer, out in Fall
River. I was fired because I
showed up to work drunk. I was an
alcoholic and my kids hated me for
it. |
WILL
I'm sorry to hear that. |
HOMELESS MAN
That's okay. It's nobody's fault
but my own. I just wish I was able
to stop it before it ruined me. |
WILL
How long were you married? |
HOMELESS MAN
Twenty-five years. And I loved her
for every one of them. |
49.
WILL
Well, I loved her for fifteen
years. |
HOMELESS MAN
Who, your girlfriend? |
WILL
(shakes his head)
No... my best friend. |
HOMELESS MAN
If that's the case, then why
aren't you with her? |
WILL
Because, it's complicated. And
because I was with my girlfriend.
I wish it wasn't the case, though. |
HOMELESS MAN
Tell me, kid, do you care about
this girl, your friend? |
HOMELESS MAN
How much do you care? |
HOMELESS MAN
Does she know this? |
WILL
Like I said, it's been
complicated. |
HOMELESS MAN
Then, UN-complicate it. Tell her,
because you never know when you'll
get another chance. |
WILL
(beat)
You're right. I should. |
Will gets up, taking out his cellphone. He dials a number
then puts the phone to his ear: |
50.
INT. MINIVAN (MOVING) - SAME |
Ashley is sitting in the back seat with Brenda, while riding
with some friends in the van. Her cellphone RINGS, and she
answers it: |
ASHLEY
(into phone)
Hello? |
INTERCUTTING |
ASHLEY
Oh, hey, what's up? |
WILL
Can you meet me somewhere? |
WILL
Um... the waterfront, outside the
aquarium. |
WILL
I'm in Revere - I'm closest to it. |
ASHLEY
Well, it's gonna take me a
while... |
WILL
Don't worry, I'll wait. |
ASHLEY
Okay.
(hangs up; to
Driver)
Hey, can you do me a favor? I need
a ride to the aquarium. |
DRIVER
(taken aback)
Aquarium? Okay... I guess. |
51.
BRENDA
(whispering)
Ash, what's up? |
ASHLEY
(whispering)
Will wants me to meet him at the
waterfront. |
BRENDA
(whispering)
What for? |
ASHLEY
(whispering)
I dunno. |
INT. REVERE BEACH STATION, PLATFORM |
As the train pulls into the station, Will reaches for his
wallet. He takes out a TEN DOLLAR BILL and hands it to the
Homeless Man: |
WILL
Listen, thanks a lot for the
advice. |
HOMELESS MAN
(taking money)
Thank you. And God bless. |
Will boards the train before the doors close. It takes off. |
EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING - ESTABLISH - NIGHT |
We see John's Toyota pull up to the front of the building.
He gets out of the car, dressed in casual clothes now as he
carries his overnight bag. He heads inside the building. |
INT. RANDOLPH APARTMENT |
John unlocks the door and walks inside. As he closes the
door, he finds the half-burnt candle that Will placed on the
52.
kitchen counter, as well as the picture of his late wife.
John drops his bag on the couch, then heads to the candle.
He begins to tear up: |
OFC. RANDOLPH
(to picture)
I'm sorry, Linda, but all this has
been hard on me. I can't do this
without you... I just can't. Our
boy's leaving me soon, and I don't
know what I'm gonna do... |
He stands there for a beat. Then, he wipes his tears,
regaining his composure, then heads back to the living room. |
EXT. NEW ENGLAND AQUARIUM, WATERFRONT - LATER |
Will is sitting on a bench, overlooking the water at
Boston's historic waterfront. He stares out, his expression
very contemplative until he turns back, hearing something. |
The minivan from earlier pull up to the curb, and Ashley
gets out. |
BRENDA
Hey, you're still coming to the
party, right? |
ASHLEY
Yeah, I'll be there. Thanks for
the ride. |
Ashley and Brenda hug, then Brenda closes the car door. The
van drives off as Ashley walks towards where Will is. |
ASHLEY
(sitting down)
Well, I'm here. What's up? |
WILL
(beat)
Me and Ava broke up... |
ASHLEY
Oh my God... are you okay? |
53.
WILL
Yeah... no. I'm not. |
He leans towards her and she holds him for comfort. |
ASHLEY (cont'd)
Everything's gonna be okay, Will.
Ava's no good, you deserve better. |
WILL
(tearing up)
I just don't get why all my
relationships have to end so
badly; first Jessica, then
Danielle, and now Ava. It's just
so fucked up! |
She pulls him away, wiping away his tears with her thumbs: |
ASHLEY
Listen to me, it's not your fault.
They just can't see the good
person that you are. Maybe the
right girl is there, you just need
to open your eyes... |
They stare at each other for a moment. Then, she suddenly
kisses him. A tender, soft kiss. Afterwards, he gives her a
curious look: |
WILL
(liking it)
What was that about? |
ASHLEY
(surprised)
Um... I... |
She gets up and shamefully attempts to leave, but Will
quickly follows. |
WILL
Ashley, wait!
(stopping her)
Ash... |
54.
ASHLEY
'See, the truth is... I like you.
For a while now. And I hate seeing
you get hurt by every girl you're
with. |
WILL
I like you too. I-I love you, in
fact. |
WILL
Yeah. But it hurts me, because I
can't be with you. |
WILL
Because... you're with David. |
ASHLEY
(realizing)
Right. But, why didn't you tell me
before? |
ASHLEY
Of what? Will, we've know each
other since we were three. |
WILL
And that's why. What if we were
together, and then we get into a
big fight and break up? I don't
want what you and I've established
to be ruined. |
ASHLEY
I-I never thought of that. |
ASHLEY
But, I'm willing to work on it. |
55.
WILL
(beat)
C'mon. I promised you we'd go to
the party, so let's go. |
He takes her hand, and they leave the waterfront. |
EXT. ENGLISH HIGH, FOOTBALL FIELD |
Back at the football field, we see the jocks and girls still
there. But our attention is on David's Honda parked nearby. |
INT. HONDA |
David is sitting inside the car, with the party girl he
spoke to earlier. |
DAVID
(smiling)
Hey, I just realized that we've
been chillin' here all this time,
but I don't even know your name. |
MONICA
(chuckles)
It's Monica. And I'm seventeen, in
case you're wondering. |
DAVID
Alright. So, Monica, how come I've
never seen you around school? |
DAVID
Damn, so you ain't graduating 'til
next year. |
MONICA
Mmm-hmm. But it's cool, though. |
DAVID
So, what brought you out here with
us seniors? |
56.
MONICA
A lot of my friends are
graduating, so they wanted me to
chill with them. |
MONICA
You know, I watched you play
football here. |
MONICA
Yeah. I went to every game, just
to watch you play. |
DAVID
(smiling)
I didn't know I had a fan. |
MONICA (cont'd)
I even made a bet with one of my
girls. |
MONICA
That I could get with you, if you
beat Boston Latin. But, then I
found out you had a girl... |
DAVID
Naw, Baby, she's old news. I'm
single now. |
MONICA
(smiling)
Is that right? |
DAVID
(leaning towards
her)
Yup. |
They kiss passionately. |
INT. BOSTON BOWL |
57.
There is still a crowd in Boston Bowl as we see Victor,
still hanging out with Brandon & Quincy by the bowling
lanes. All three are having a good time as they converse
with some friends. They laugh, then: |
VICTOR
Yo, let me ask y'all somethin'. Do
any you think that things can
still be like this, after high
school? |
VICTOR
Like, the vibe we got goin' right
now -- the atmosphere. We're all
heading our own ways
post-graduation, and who knows
when we'll have another moment
like this? |
GIRL
You know, Victor's right. I mean
high school is, supposedly, the
best four years people like us can
have. |
VICTOR
Exactly. Hell, I was stuck in the
house earlier today, without plans
and no idea what to do. But I'm
glad I came. |
BRANDON
Same here, man. Shit, with college
right around the corner, are some
of us even gonna be in the same
area code? |
QUINCY
To be realistic, I don't think so.
But that doesn't mean, I wouldn't
want to be. Then again, I'm going
to UCLA. |
GIRL
I'm going to Mount Ida. You,
Brandon? |
BRANDON
Atlanta Tech. Vic? |
58.
VICTOR
Yeah. My dad did it, so I figured
why not? |
QUINCY
That's cool.
(sighs)
Damn... I guess we're all growin'
up here, huh? |
BRANDON
Hey, for what its worth, I really
consider you guys like my best
friends... |
VICTOR
(smiling)
Aw, come on, don't tell me you're
gonna cry now! |
BRANDON
(smiling)
What? Naw! I'm just sayin', this
feels like an emotional moment! |
QUINCY
(smiling)
Yeah, leave it to Victor to fuck
it up! |
They all laugh. |
INT. HONDA |
Things are getting hot and heavy as David & Monica are still
kissing in the back seat. She's undoing her shirt, and he
his pants, when there is suddenly a KNOCK on the window: |
59.
He checks out the window. |
EXT. HONDA - SAME |
Travis is outside the car. He continues knocking. |
INT. HONDA |
MONICA
Forget it, Baby. Stay here. |
She kisses him. |
DAVID
Let me just see what this dude
wants. |
He backs away, putting his pants back on. Then, he gets out
of the car, while she puts her shirt back on. |
EXT. HONDA |
David gets out of the car, clearly upset at the
interruption: |
DAVID
(whispering)
Yo, Travis, what the fuck?! |
TRAVIS
(whispering)
My bad, D. |
DAVID
(whispering)
This better be good -- I was just
about to get some! |
TRAVIS
(whispering)
Oh word? From who? |
60.
DAVID
(whispering)
Shorty named Monica. |
TRAVIS
(whispering;
grinning)
Monica? Nigga, I didn't know you
was into minors. |
DAVID
(whispering)
Fuck you! Besides, she's
seventeen. |
TRAVIS
Anyways, we about to head to
Byron's party. You comin'? |
DAVID
(whispering)
Uh... yeah. Yeah, I'll go. |
TRAVIS
A'ight, well keep it in your
pants, and let's go! You better
hope Ashley don't find out. |
DAVID
Man, what the fuck is Ashley gonna
say? Me and her, we're done! And
she don't even know it yet. |
TRAVIS
(chuckles)
A'ight, man. It ain't my place to
say anything. Let's go. |
Travis walks away, and David gets back in his car. |
INT. HONDA |
Monica is sitting in the passenger's seat now, when David
gets in the driver's seat. |
DAVID
'Bout to head to Byron's party.
Wanna come? |
61.
MONICA
(smiling)
Only if you'll be there. |
He starts the engine and they drive off. |
MONTAGE |
A) Will & Ashley have a train car to themselves as they ride
the MBTA's Blue Line. He has an arm around her as she leans
on him.
B) Brenda and her friends are still on the minivan, having
fun while cruising down the street.
C) A group of teens arrive at a house party. They are
greeted by a handsome teen with long hair. This is BYRON,
19.
D) David and his friends are driving along the streets of
Boston.
E) Victor, Brandon & Quincy are riding the bus, conversing
along the way. |
END MONTAGE |
EXT. BYRON'S HOUSE - LATE NIGHT |
There is a lot of HIGH SCHOOL-AGED KIDS either heading into
the house, or some just hanging outside. Byron's house is a
nice, modest two-story home; just the right size for a house
party! |
INT. BYRON'S HOUSE |
LOUD HIP HOP MUSIC BLAST THROUGH SPEAKERS as we see the
whole house is filled with TEENS drinking, dancing, and
conversing. Byron opens the door, finding Ava, Anna and
their friends: |
BYRON
(smiling)
Ava! Wassup! |
62.
They hug. |
BYRON
(smiling)
Shit, the whole school! Look
around. |
Ava moves along. |
ANNA
(hugging him)
Hey, Byron. |
She moves along with Ava. Then, Devon walks in: |
They embrace: |
DEVON
(smiling)
Waz good, my dude? Thanks for the
party. |
BYRON
My pleasure, man. It's not every
day you hear your boy's going to
the army, and havin' a baby. |
DEVON
Thanks, man. Yo, is there any
food? |
BYRON
Yeah, help yourself. |
63.
Byron closes the door and they walk deeper into the party.
Elsewhere, we see Ava & Anna talking to some girlfriends
from school. |
AVA
How long have y'all been here? |
PARTY GIRL #1
A couple hours. |
ANNA
Any cute boys around? You know,
Ava's single now, right? |
PARTY GIRL #2
Oh yeah? So, you finally broke up
with Will? |
AVA
(smiling)
Yup, finally kicked his ass to the
curb! |
PARTY GIRL #1
You mind if I get wit' him? He's
kinda cute. |
AVA
Be my guest, I don't care!
Besides, I'm college-bound -- I
need a real man now! |
The girls laugh. |
David, with his arm around Monica, and his group of friends
walk into the house. They walk around, greeting friends: |
TRAVIS
(greeting people)
Yo, waz good? Wassup? Hey, how
y'all been? |
The group stands in the middle of the house, with everyone
else. |
DAVID
(to Travis)
Yo, we're going upstairs. See
y'all later. |
Monica giggles as they make their way upstairs, through a
sea of people. |
64.
INT. BEDROOM |
Monica leads David into a dim-lit, empty bedroom. They close
the door behind. |
DAVID
(smiling)
Now, where were we? |
They start kissing passionately and hungrily, taking it to
the bed as she takes off his shirt. He undoes her shirt as
she quickly undoes his pants. David lies on top of Monica as
they kiss, until: |
MONICA
(softly)
Wait. Do you have a condom? |
He reaches for his pants, and takes out a condom. He shows
it to her; she smiles and they continue kissing. |
EXT. STREET CORNER |
Will and Ashley are walking down the street together, not
too far from Byron's house as we can clearly hear the MUSIC
(OS). They stop: |
ASHLEY
Will, you sure you wanna do this?
Even though Ava's gonna be there? |
WILL
(nodding)
Yeah, fuck it. I'm not worried
about her. Why, you wanna go home? |
ASHLEY
No, I'll-I'll go. I just wanna
make sure you still wanna go. |
WILL
Yeah. I mean, you said you
wouldn't go unless I did, right?
I'll be okay, Ash. |
65.
They continue walking, finding Victor, Brandon & Quincy
along the way. |
VICTOR
(to Will)
Yo, wassup? |
BRANDON
(noticing)
You a'ight, Will? You seem kinda
out of it. |
WILL
(sighs)
Me and Ava broke up, two hours
ago. |
QUINCY
Oh, damn. You know she's gonna be
at the party, right? |
WILL
Yeah, I know. But I don't care.
It's my last night in high school,
I won't let her ruin it. |
VICTOR
(smiling)
That's the spirit, man! Come on. |
The group keeps walking along. |
EXT. BYRON'S HOUSE |
As Will's group arrives at the house, Brenda and her friends
arrive in the minivan. They park in front of the house and
get out: |
66.
BRENDA
Well, let's go inside -- this is
our last high school party! |
They head inside. |
INT. BYRON'S HOUSE |
Byron opens the door, as Will and his friends wait outside.
They smile and embrace each other: |
BYRON
(smiling)
Wassup, Will? Congratulations. |
WILL
(smiling)
Same here, man. |
BYRON
All of y'all, come on it! |
The group walks into the house: |
ASHLEY
Hey, Byron, is David here? |
BYRON
Uh... I heard he was here. But I
haven't seen him. Just have a good
time, he's bound to show up.
Besides, all the seniors are here. |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
Alright, I'll see y'all later. |
She breaks away from the group, and mingles around. The rest
of the group do the same. |
WILL
Yo, you got any drinks? |
BYRON
(grinning)
I didn't know you drank. |
WILL
I don't, but fuck it. It's our
last high school party, right? |
67.
BYRON
I heard that! C'mon, 'drinks are
in the kitchen. |
INT. BEDROOM - SAME |
David & Monica are making love under the bed sheets. They're
panting as they kiss: |
MONICA
(moaning)
Mmm... its true what they say. |
DAVID
(panting)
Oh yeah? And what's that? |
MONICA
(smiling)
Football players are big! |
He smiles at this complement. She kisses him as they
continue making love, rolling on top of him. |
EXT. BYRON'S HOUSE, BACKYARD |
There is a hand full of people gathered in the back yard.
Ashley walks out, finding Quincy talking to some friends.
She joins them as Quincy tells a story: |
QUINCY
... So, then he was like: "yo, why
the fuck you lookin' at my girl?!"
And I'm like: "Dawg, she's
checkin' me out. I can't help it
if I look good!" |
The group laughs. |
QUINCY (cont'd)
(smiling)
He came at me with a left hook,
then a right. But, my man didn't
know that ya boy was an amateur
boxer, so I laid him out with the
quickness... and then I took his
girl. |
The group laughs again. |
68.
ASHLEY
What you talkin' about, Q? |
QUINCY
(smiling)
Oh, I was just tellin' 'em how I
met my girl. How come you ain't
inside? |
INT. BYRON'S HOUSE, KITCHEN |
Byron leads Will into the kitchen, where there's some more
people, already eating all the food: |
BYRON
(to freeloaders)
Hey, hey!! Don't eat all my
goddamn food! 'Fuck you think this
is, Mickey D's?! |
He heads over to the fridge and opens it. Inside, the
refrigerator is lined up with nothing but BEER BOTTLES AND
HARD LIQUOR: |
BYRON
What'chu want? I got Coronas,
forties, Hennessy, Vodka... |
WILL
Corona's fine. I ain't tryin' to
get that bent. |
BYRON
(shrugs)
Suit yourself. |
Byron gets a beer for Will, and takes a forty-ounce for
himself. They open them and start drinking away. |
INT. LIVING ROOM - SAME |
Back in the living room, people are dancing including Brenda
and Brandon. Ava is still sitting down, looking around;
69.
while Victor is off to the side, drinking with his buddies.
Overall, it seems like a good time for some. |
INT. KITCHEN |
Byron and Will are standing by the kitchen sink, as they
continue drinking. |
BYRON
Yo, I heard you and Ava broke up. |
WILL
Shit, I figured that. You can't do
nothing in high school without it
circulating. |
BYRON
Oh, naw, it ain't even like that.
In fact, I'm happy for you. |
WILL
(taken aback)
Happy for me? |
BYRON
Yeah. I mean, Dog, she was a
bitch! And I don't know if you
knew this, but she got around. |
BYRON
Hell yeah! From what I heard, she
fucked half the basketball team -
even caught the clap at one point! |
WILL
Oh, what the fuck -- I hit that!!
You had to tell me this shit now!? |
BYRON
(chuckles)
I'm sorry, man. You should get
yourself checked! |
WILL
Oh, fuck you, Byron! You're a
dick!
(walking away)
Fuck!! |
70.
Byron laughs as Will leaves to the backyard. |
EXT. BEDROOM, 2ND FLOOR - LATER |
David and Monica walk out of the bedroom, as they finish
getting dressed. They look at each other, smiling, and head
downstairs. |
INT. LIVING ROOM |
As Brenda dances, she notices David coming downstairs with
his arm around Monica. They're all over each other as they
talk with friends. Brenda clearly shows some concerns seeing
this. She leaves the area. |
EXT. BACKYARD |
Will, beer still in hand, approaches Ashley and Quincy as
they talk with friends. |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
Hey.
(noticing)
I thought you didn't drink? |
WILL
I don't. But I needed to unwind.
Want some? |
He takes a sip of his beer, as the group continues talking. |
EXT. BYRON'S HOUSE, FRONT YARD |
Brenda emerges out of the house, finding Devon outside. She
quickly approaches him: |
71.
BRENDA
(worried)
Devon, have you seen Ashley? |
DEVON
Yeah, she's out back. Why -- ? |
She quickly goes around the side of the house, towards the
back yard. Moments later, David & Monica step out of the
house. He has his arms wrapped around her from behind, as he
kisses her neck. She smiles. |
EXT. BACKYARD |
Brenda runs up to Ashley in mid-conversation. |
BRENDA
Ashley!
(noticing)
Hey, Will, I didn't know you
drank. |
WILL
(annoyed)
What fuckin' difference does it
make?! |
BRENDA
Anyways, Ashley, we gotta go! |
ASHLEY
What're you talking about? We just
got here. |
BRENDA
Still, we gotta go! |
BRENDA
Because, you gotta trust me! |
Brenda grabs her by the hand and drags her to the front.
Will and Quincy give each other a confused look: |
72.
Will follows behind, placing his beer down along the way. |
EXT. FRONT YARD |
As Brenda drags Ashley: |
ASHLEY
Brenda, what is wrong with you?
Why are you -- ? |
BRENDA
(looking off)
Oh shit...! |
ASHLEY
What?
(noticing)
WHAT THE FUCK!? |
Reveal: David & Monica standing by his Honda, kissing
deeply. Everyone watches as Ashley marches up to David,
SHOVING Monica out of the way: |
ASHLEY
What the fuck is this, David!?
Who's this bitch!? |
DAVID
Ashley, what're you doing -- ? |
ASHLEY
No, what are you doing?! |
DAVID
I'm having fun with my new friend. |
ASHLEY
By shoving your tongue in her
mouth?! |
Will arrives on the scene; he stands next to Brenda,
watching the argument. |
DAVID
I don't know why you're upset -
it's not like you care! |
ASHLEY
Why wouldn't I? You're my
boyfriend! |
73.
DAVID
(stepping up)
Not anymore! You made it clear
back at the bowling alley! |
ASHLEY
What are you talking about? |
He takes out the engagement ring: |
DAVID
You see this? I was gonna propose
to you, Ashley. But, you made it
clear that you don't wanna be with
me! |
David PUSHES Ashley down. Will RUNS up and SHOVES David
back: |
WILL
Yo, what's the fuck is your
problem, man?! She's a female!
(helps Ashley up)
You okay, Ash? |
DAVID
Well, if it ain't the so-called
"best friend". You're just in
time! |
WILL
Yo, David, what're you doin'? |
DAVID
Face it, Will, you stole my woman
right from me! |
WILL
'Fuck are you talkin'? |
DAVID
(pushes him)
Why'd you do it, man?! I thought
we was boys! |
WILL
I didn't do shit, so don't touch
me! |
DAVID
I trusted you, you son of a
bitch!! |
74.
David suddenly SWINGS at Will; however, Will quickly reacts
and ducks under the punch. He hits David with a
lighting-fast TWO-PUNCH COMBO, knocking him down. |
WILL
I didn't wanna do that, man... |
Everyone watches in awe as Will looks around, regretting
what he just did to his friend. He's clearly upset by this
now. Then: |
WILL
(beat)
Devon, can you give me a ride
home? |
Ashley is at a loss of words, as Will and Devon pass by her.
They get in his car, a SEDAN, then: |
ASHLEY
(realizing)
Will, wait! |
It's too late, the car takes off. |
INT. DEVON'S CAR (MOVING) - LATER |
Will stares out the window from the passenger's seat, as
Devon drives along the streets. He seems very contemplative
when Devon turns to him: |
DEVON
Yo, you a'ight, man? Where'd you
learn to move like that? |
WILL
My dad's a cop. He taught me how
to fight. |
75.
They continue driving along. |
EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING - NIGHT |
It's safe to assume that we're now in the morning hours of
the late night, as the streets are empty when Devon's car
pulls up to the front of the building. Will steps out: |
WILL
Yo, D, thanks a lot. |
DEVON
No problem, man. Good seeing you
again. |
WILL
Yeah. Take care of yourself. |
Devon drives off as Will heads inside the building. |
INT. RANDOLPH APARTMENT |
John is still awake, watching PUBLIC ACCESS TELEVISION --
clearly he can't sleep. He turns as he hears the door being
UNLOCKED, and sees Will walking in. |
WILL
(closing door)
Hey, Dad. |
Will walks over, and joins him on the couch. |
WILL
What're you watchin'? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
I dunno -- something; I can't
sleep. Where were you? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
How was it? |
76.
WILL
Could've been better. How was
work? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Could've been better.
(beat)
Let me ask you something, Will. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
I've been a good father to you,
right? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
I dunno. Just... sometimes things
can happen in the most unexpected
ways. |
WILL
(scoffs)
Yeah, tell me about it. I had a
crazy night myself. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
What happened? |
WILL
Ava broke up with me. I got into a
fight with Ashley's boyfriend... |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Oh yeah? What for? |
WILL
They also broke up, and he tried
to put his hands on her. So, I
stopped him from doing so. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
(nods approvingly)
I'm proud of you, Son. You did the
right thing standing up for your
friend. |
WILL
I did it for another reason
though... |
77.
OFC. RANDOLPH
What reason is that? |
WILL
(beat)
I like her. I really do. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
I know you do. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
(smiling)
Of course we knew. Your mother and
I knew it the minute you first met
Ashley. We just never understood
why you two were never together.
You'd make a great couple. |
WILL
It's not that easy, we have a
history together. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
And what better reason is there?
You two are inseparable. |
WILL
But, Dad, what if the relationship
goes bad? My last few
relationships didn't exactly end
on good terms. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
That's why you learn from your
mistakes, Son. And then you move
on from them. |
Will stays quiet -- he knows he's right. Then: |
WILL
(getting up)
I don't know... I'm goin' to bed.
Good night. |
Will heads to his room. |
INT. MINIVAN (MOVING) - LATER |
78.
As they resume cruising around with their small group of
friends, Ashley is once again in the back seat with Brenda.
She's in total silence, with tears running down her face,
sadly staring out the window while everyone else talks.
Brenda then takes notice: |
ASHLEY
(staring out)
What? |
BRENDA
I'm sorry. I tried to stop you
from seeing it... |
ASHLEY
(wiping away tears)
It's okay, Brenda. It's not your
fault. |
BRENDA
I was just trying to look out for
you. |
ASHLEY
And you did. I just wished Will
wasn't involved. |
BRENDA
He was only trying to protect you. |
ASHLEY
I know he was. I just don't get
why people have to hate on that. |
BRENDA
Because they're envious. They envy
the fact that they don't have
someone who cares about them as
unconditionally as he does. Hell,
I wish I had someone like that. |
Ashley smiles half-heartedly at that. |
BRENDA
Like I said, tell him how you
feel. |
79.
BRENDA
Then go to him, and remind him.
Given where you two are going,
tonight may be your only chance. |
ASHLEY
(nodding)
You're right. I have to do it. |
EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING - LATER |
The minivan pulls up to the curb, and Brenda & Ashley step
out. Ashley hugs Brenda: |
ASHLEY
Thank you, Brenda. Thank you for
being such a good friend. |
BRENDA
You're welcome. Now go. |
Ashley lets go and heads inside the building. Brenda gets
back in the van and it drives off. |
INT. APARTMENT BUILDING |
Ashley is quickly running up the stairs. Once on the third
floor, she stops at a door, stopping for a beat to catch her
breath. Then she KNOCKS. |
INT. RANDOLPH APARTMENT |
Hearing the KNOCKING (OS), John gets up from the couch and
opens the door to find Ashley. |
ASHLEY
Hey, Mr. Randolph. |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Hi, Honey, how you been? |
80.
ASHLEY
I'm okay. Is Will home? |
OFC. RANDOLPH
Yeah, come on in. |
She does and he closes the door. |
OFC. RANDOLPH (cont'd)
He's in his room. |
She walks over to Will's room. |
INT. WILL'S BEDROOM - TWILIGHT |
The lights are off. Will hasn't changed out of his clothes
as he lies on his bed, staring out the window. He turns when
he hears Ashley entering the room. |
She slowly climbs onto the bed, taking off her shoes before
lying next to him. Moments later, she places a hand on his
cheek, caressing it as she stares in his eyes for a beat. |
ASHLEY
I love you, Will. And I wanna be
with you no matter what. |
WILL
But, Ashley, how can it work for
us? You're going to New York, and
I'm gonna be in Florida. I doubt
it'll work. |
ASHLEY
But we can try. You just have to
trust me. |
She turns around, wrapping his arms around her waist. He
gets closer to her. |
81.
ASHLEY
(softly)
Will you promise me something? |
ASHLEY
(softly)
Will you still love me, after
graduation? |
WILL
(beat; softly)
Yes... always. |
He holds her closer as they fall asleep together, with the
dawn approaching in the background. |
EXT. ENGLISH HIGH, FOOTBALL FIELD - DAY |
The bleachers are filled with people as we see the
graduating class sitting in chairs in front of everyone.
There is a small STAGE in front of the entire crowd, with
the SCHOOL'S PRINCIPAL standing at the podium. |
We recognize faces among the graduates as we find Ashley and
Will, both sitting in different rows. |
PRINCIPAL
And now, I will hand out the
diplomas to this year's English
High graduates. |
The first row stands up and moves along as the names are
being called. TIME LAPSES between graduates: |

although he has a BLACK-EYE. |

EXT. ENGLISH HIGH, FOOTBALL FIELD - LATER |
The ceremony has passed and all of the graduates are with
their families and friends. Will is off somewhere, talking
to some friends, when Ashley approaches him. |
83.
He turns around. |
WILL
(walking up)
Hey. Congratulations. |
Ashley's parents show up, with her mother holding a CAMERA: |
ASHLEY'S MOM
(smiling)
Hey, you two. I wanna take a
picture. |
Ashley & Will smile as they get their picture taken. Then: |
ASHLEY'S DAD
So, Will, what's next for you now
that you've graduated? |
WILL
College, sir. Maybe a job
somewhere in between. Who knows? |
ASHLEY
Guys, can you give us some privacy
please? |
ASHLEY'S DAD
In a minute, Ashley.
(to Will)
Do you know your major yet? |
ASHLEY
Dad!
(sincerely)
Please? |
ASHLEY'S DAD
(nods
understandingly)
I'm sorry, Sweetie.
(to Ashley's Mom)
C'mon, let's give the kids their
privacy. |
Ashley's parents walk away. |
84.
ASHLEY
(nervous smile)
Sorry about that, Will. |

WILL
(smiling)
It's cool. After knowing your
parents for so long, I'm used to
it. I'm gonna miss them... |
His last sentence trails into an awkward moment of silence
between the two. |
ASHLEY
(beat)
So, I guess this is it, huh? |
ASHLEY
Well, I'm heading to New York
tonight. But I want you to know
that I cherish our friendship. I
don't think I'll ever find another
person like you. |
She hugs him; the embrace lasts a few moments, then: |
WILL
(beat; smiling)
See you later, Ash. |
She slowly nods then walks away; he looks on for a moment,
then leaves. |

EXT. NEW YORK UNIVERSITY - DAY |
SUPER - TWO MONTHS LATER |
It looks like Orientation week. We see various people
walking along the campus: some couples; some groups of
friends; some people getting acquainted with other students
and faculty; and some individuals just passing through. |
85.
INT. DORM ROOM |
Inside a large, well-organized dorm room for two, we see
Ashley, wearing a HOODED SWEATER bearing the school's logo,
talking on her cellphone as she moves around the room: |
ASHLEY
(into phone)
Yeah... Mmm-hmm... I know, Dad...
No, I've had no problems here...
Aunt Millie lives not too far from
here anyway... Okay, Dad, I
will... Alright, well I gotta go,
okay? Say hi to Mom for me...
'Love you too. Bye. |
She hangs up, then starts looking around for something when
there is a KNOCK AT THE DOOR (OS). |
We hear the door being opened (OS), and then: |
WILL (OS)
I guess we're neighbors again. |
Ashley slowly turns around in disbelief. Reveal: Will
standing at her doorway, smiling. |
ASHLEY
(smiling)
Will? What're you doing here? I
thought you were in Florida! |
WILL
(stepping in)
I transferred in. |
ASHLEY
Wha -- how?! Why...? |
WILL
I realized that I needed to be
closer to home.
(smiling)
Besides, I couldn't stay away from
you. |
She walks up to him: |
86.
ASHLEY
Where's your dorm? |
ASHLEY
(chuckles)
I guess some things never change. |
WILL
(smiling)
I guess not. |
They kiss tenderly. Afterwards, they pull away and look at
each other for a moment, laughing at the mere possibility of
fate working itself. Then, they kiss again. |
THE END |

I thought this was pretty good, however maybe just call it "Beantown" that sounds just "better" for some reason. Catchier. Very easy to read. |
