THE GEM OF PARAN

FADE IN:

INT. THE KINGS TENT - DAY

LION OF JUDAH M.O. BY DALE HUNTER.

Zoom in on each face to the beat of the music, around and
around the tent, faster and faster.

Four powerful sheikhs, the Kings of Paran face one another
across the opulent draped expanse of the tent. Only one of
them held the pawn that would catapult his tribe to headship
of the regions inhabited by them for entire generations. It
was important. It was to war for, or to die over. One of
them was in possession of the legendary Kingly Gem. The gem
that would place the crown of authority on that tribe for a
lifetime. The gem was at the cusp of discovery and then...
it disappeared. The loss of this costly token left each man
with varying degrees of suspicion, anger, disbelief and
fustration. All Paran would not rest until it was
recovered.

EXT. ROOF TOP - NIGHT

IF I COULD FLY M.O. BY DALE HUNTER.

In the predawn darkness, the whispered words of AHMED,
SAMEH, AZHARA and SHABOUH linger, like the rooftop mice
scuttering at their feet to avoid the first shattering rays
of light breaking over the Kidron Valley.

They have been there all night, with the mice, and Azhara,
the youngest, shivers as she wraps an opulent woven quilt
tightly beneath her chin. They are an unlikely looking
troupe, but in the bustle of Jerusalems whole populace they
blend in unnoticed.

Israel has gathered for the Coronation of a new King but
these four have not come to see him crowned, no, these have
come in search of a legend. The Gem of Paran.

Ahmed and Sameh, peering intently over the stone ledge, talk
quietly together. Unknowns to them, Azhara has awoke from
her restless slumber and tired of being ignored she arises
and, dragging her blanket with her, joins them at the short
stone wall surrounding the roof they have rented for the
night.

Towering above them all, Shabouh, the dark skinned Egyptian

bodyguard silently takes his place behind them, excellent in
his endowment, indebted by honor to Ahmed's family for life.

EXT. ROOF TOP - DAY

Bright morning sun shooting up into the sky.

                       SAMEH
Is it him?

                       AHMED
It is my jewel.

                       AZHARA
      (yawning)
Who papa, who? Is it my brother?
      (with awakening
       realization)
Oh! Let me see! Please! Please!

Azhara tries to shoulder in. Ahmed and Sameh turn and shush
her. Shabouh steps closer and bows, placing a tremendous
hand upon Azhara's shoulder.

                       SHABOUH
Master, shall I seize him for you?

The girls look up at Shabouh in hopeful anticipation but
Ahmed is already shaking his head.

                       AHMED
No. We must not let Tzefan know we
are here. It would break his heart
and, he would never trust us
again.

                       SAMEH
I could tell him...that...I have
come alone.

                       AHMED
      (clucking
       paternally)
I wish it could be so little
jewel, but, he has been hurt. You
could not convince him.

                       AZHARA
      (with childish
       sass)
Besides, my brother is mad, not
stupid Sameh.

3.

                       AHMED
      (sternly)
Hush child, before I regret
bringing you along. Soon, Sameh
will be you brothers wife and you
will respect her as such.

                       AZHARA
      (contritely)
Yes papa.

Ahmed turns his attention back to the walled corrals below.

                       AHMED
      (wistfully, as if
       talking to
       himself)
The Gem must return on his own.
And we did agree that we were only
going to make sure he was well.

                       SAMEH
      (melancholy)
Yes, but it has taken us so long
to find him
      (thin tears track
       down her cheeks)

TITLE OVER WITH OPENING CREDITS THE GEM OF PARAN

EXT. JERUSALEM - DAY

IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME M.O. BY CHER. CHORUS ONLY

SWEEP IN from above, to the city of Jerusalem during the
reign of the mighty King David.

Amidst the first light bustle of the sights (and smells) of
sheep, goats, donkeys, cattle, camel, and chickens squawking
the ROYAL OFFICERS hawk orders to the shepherds and herdsmen
as they take the Kings herds out to pasture.

EXT. DONKEY CORRAL - DAY

Swirling out from a sea of faces, TZEFAN, a handsome young
herdsman begins his day as always. He sees his mother
weeping, his four brothers and baby sister, his father's
anguish, his betrothed reaching out to him, as he walks
away, forever. He is lost in these thoughts as he gathers
together all his needed utensils, placing them in a large
grain sack and dragging it to a waiting pack donkey. As

4.

Tzefan struggles to lift the over sized bag off the ground
the donkey steps aside, the bag drops at his feet and all
the contents spill out.

Tzefan gives the donkey a disgusted look.

He bends down gathering the items into the sack again when
he is suddenly grabbed from behind and drug by his cloaks to
the stable gates where he is forcefully pushed out, the bag
of utensils flying out after him.

EXT. SHEEP GATE - DAY

                       JEHDEIAH
      (kicks Tzefan)
Get out in the field hard head!
      (mumbling loudly)
Your always the last one out.

The pack donkey rushes past Tzefan with a high kick.
Pack donkey BRAYS loudly running down the road.

EXT. ROAD - DAY

ASEF, RAVEED, NURI and JAPHET, standing by the road, chuckle
and laugh.

EXT. ROAD - DAY

Tzefan picks himself up, looks back at Jehdeiah and spits to
the ground insultingly. Dusting off, he skulks reluctantly
along behind the massive herd of crossback donkeys, in no
hurry to catch up.

EXT. ROAD - DAY

As Tzefan trails along behind the King's donkeys, the herds
keepers and shepherds watch with lifted brows and sad
glances. It is clear they feel sorry for him, in
particular, the Shulamite girl, who, to the disdain of the
others, falls into step along with him.

CLOSE ON the beautiful, dark skinned Shulamite girl as they
move out together from the walled city and down the well
worn road into the countryside where they will graze the
flocks.

5.

In a panoramic scene, as Tzefan and the Shulamite girl walk
the other groups of herd keepers fall into step behind from
all directions all heading for the fields.

                       TZEFAN (vo)
      (narration)
In the days of King David, before
his son Solomon would be crowned,
a decree went out to all the
people of Judah saying,..."It has
become known in the City of David,
our God has chosen Solomon to
inherit the throne of the Kingdom
and to build our God a House..."
Now, in the courts of the King
were a great many people who
served him. He was a King who
loved his God and because of his
love and obedience God gave him
favor in all the land. And so it
was, but we were not worried for
the King's son had the heart of
his father's concern to be fair to
all the people of his Kingdom.
David of Israel is his name, and
I, am the keeper of the King's
royal donkeys.

IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME M.O. CHORUS

EXT. HEBRON VALLEY - NIGHT

Various small fires dot the hillside where the herdsmen and
shepherds have retired to watch over their flocks at night.
Asef, Raveed, Nuri and Japhet are hiding behind a bush. They
are watching Tzefan, waiting for a donkey to graze close to
them. Soon, a donkey stands by the bush. Raveed reaches
blindly through the bush and grabs it's tail. Raveed ties a
large cow bell to it's tail as Nuri brushes around on the
ground searching for a good sized pebble. Nuri gets a
sticker in his finger and yelps. Raveed smacks him.

                       RAVEED
      (hissing)
Ssshhh! You idiot! He'll hear us!

                       NURI
      (hissing back)
So, I got a sticker!

Raveed rolls eyes and shakes his head.

6.

                       JAPHET
      (nervously)
Just hurry up! If Jehdeiah
catches us he'll ring our bell!

                       ASEF
      (quietly gritting
       teeth)
I... will handle... Jehdeiah, just
do it.

EXT. NURI BEHIND BUSH - NIGHT

Nuri finds a big pebble and throws it hitting the donkey
right on the rump.

EXT. DONKEY BUCKING - NIGHT

The donkey BRAYS loudly, bucks wildly, swinging his tail
which RINGS the bell, spooking the whole herd. All the
donkeys bolt in different directions.

EXT. TEMIRA CAMPFIRE - NIGHT

From where she is watching over her goats, TEMIRA, the
Shulamite girl, hears the commotion. She drops her staff
and runs past the other shepherdesses to help Tzefan.

EXT. BEHIND BUSH - NIGHT

Raveed, Nuri, Japhet and Asef laugh wildly, rolling on the
ground. They look up periodically to continue enjoying the
prank.

A donkey bolts right for Tzefan, running through his small
fire, knocking him down, extinguishing the fire and his only
light. Darkness overtakes him.

EXT. TZEFAN IN DARKNESS - NIGHT

                       TZEFAN
      (gasps loudly)

The sounds of FRENZIED SCRAMBLING, LABORED BREATH, TANGLED
CLOAKS RUSTLING on the ground.

7.

EXT. BEHIND BUSH - NIGHT

Nuri, Raveed, Japhet and Asef laugh louder. A donkey rushes
at them. Their eyes bug out and they grapple to get out of
the way, grabbing each other for help as they itermittedly
fall, rolling down a hill and run away into the moonlit
night.

EXT. TZEFAN'S CAMP - NIGHT

Temira, their sister, has seen them and a deep frown mars
her lovely, dark skinned features as she watches them run
away.

A dim light flickers and the darkness is illuminated by a
weak flame coming from the small lantern that Tzefan has
finally found. He peers into the darkness, his expression is
haggard, sorrowful.

                       TEMIRA
      (sadly)
Come on. I will help you get them
back.

A wisp of long black hair falls over her shoulder.
She helps Tzefan to his feet.

They stand in the dim light facing each other, but Tzefan
sees the face of another. The face of the betrothed he left
behind in the Wilderness of Paran.

                       TZEFAN
      (swallowing hard)
It's alright. You don't have to.
They'll find me pretty soon.

                       TEMIRA
How? They've been scattered
everywhere.

                       TZEFAN
Like this.

Tzefan carefully places a thin lute to his lips and begins
to play a haunting melody that drifts into the surrounding
shadows.

LUTE INSTRUMENTAL M.O.

Temira smiles. Closes her eyes. Enjoying the lilting tune.

8.

Sometime later, when the music fades, she feels a nudge and
opening her eyes she sees that indeed, all Tzefans donkeys
have returned to encircle them.

Tzefan hears the slight tinkle of a bell and looks around
the herd. He finds the source. His expression hardens. It
is a bell tied to a donkey's tail.

He removes it, scowling.

                       TEMIRA
I'm sorry, Tzefan...it, it was my
brothers. They really don't mean
any harm-

                       TZEFAN
      (interrupting
       harshly)
Do you really believe that? They
hate me Temira.

                       TEMIRA
      (sighs)
No, Tzefan, they're just not very
nice...

                       TZEFAN
      (shaking head
       while looking
       down)
Do you also think I am stupid? I
am from Paran. I am desert trash
in their eyes. They want nothing
more than to drive me back to
where I am from. I have no place
among them.

                       TEMIRA
      (takes his hand)
Of course you do... you have as
much right as any one of them,
and,
      (adding hopefully)
the very King himself hired you.
That must mean something.

                       TZEFAN
Your King is good to all men.
Anyway, it doesn't matter. I'm
just not like them.

9.

                       TEMIRA
      (with passion)
Your better! Better than all of
them. They would do well to have
just a little of your maturity
and...

Temira struggles to find the right word.

Tzefan waits uncomfortably for her to finish.

                       TZEFAN
And what?

                       TEMIRA
      (frustrated sigh)
I don't know...

Eyes aglitter with pain, Tzefan kicks the ground and walks
off.

                       TEMIRA
      (reaching out for
       his arm again)
Don't go Tzefan, it's not
important to be like others.

He shrugs her off but turns around slightly.

                       TEMIRA
      (pleading)
Tzefan.

                       TZEFAN
      (giving her a
       stern look)
Go Temira. Go back to your goats.
Besides, it's not good for you to
be here with me, alone. It will,
tarnish your reputation.

Tzefan disappears into the darkness carrying his lantern
with him. His donkeys follow.

EXT. SHEPHERDESSES CAMPSITE - NIGHT

The shepherdesses, watching Temira, with various expressions
whisper among themselves.

                       KEFINA
      (with gusto)
How disgusting!

10.

                       RIMONA
      (rolling her eyes)
No. Worse! Ridiculous!
      (snickering)
He's afraid of the dark!

                       PAZIT
Afraid of the dark? How do you
know?

                       RIMONA
That's why he takes a lantern
where ever he goes.

                       PAZIT
It's because he's so much younger
than Temira, I think.

                       NAAVA
She's not that much older than
him, Pazit!

                       SHIRA
      (pretending to
       rock a baby)
Oh, no. Just enough to be a
nursemaid to him!

They all laugh.

                       KEFINA
Well, he needs a nursemaid. For
himself, and the donkeys he keeps!

                       PAZIT
He is kind of cute...

                       RIMONA
      (fluttering eyes)
In a helpless sort of way.
P-leeze Pazit, he's not your type!
Too quiet, and strange, and what's
he thinking about all the time?

                       KEFINA
Can you believe she would even be
seen, sharing his company! It's
just too much for me.

                       RIMONA
Ssshhh! She's coming!

All stare innocently.

11.

Temira walks up the hill, passing their little group. She
is noticeably upset. Pazit steps forward.

                       PAZIT
Why Temira, what happened? We
heard all the commotion.

                       TEMIRA
Who couldn't. It's over now,
anyway, Tzefan just-

                       KEFINA
      (interrupting)
Just what Temira...lost his
donkeys?

Everyone giggles nervously.

Temira gives Kefina a frown and steps closer to her.

                       TEMIRA
      (purring with one
       brow lifted)
Your just jealous Kefina.

                       KEFINA
      (cocking head to
       one side boldly)
No-I don't think so Temira. What's
to be jealous of? A donkey boy?

Now the two of them are circling one another in spite of the
other girls hushed coaxing for them to stop before they all
get into serious trouble.

Temira bends down and pulls her skirts between her knees.
Kefina does the same.

Hair, arms, legs and skirts now fly as the two of them
tangle in battle on the dusty ground.

EXT. FIELD - NIGHT

From where they stand watching the herds, Temira's brothers
see the ensuing struggle and run to break up the fight.

Raveed jerks Temira up from the ground and away from her
tussle with Kefina.

12.

                       RAVEED
      (hissing)
You idiots! What is wrong with
you!

Nuri and Japhet pull Kefina up from the ground. Raveed
gives them both a stern look.

Kefina, breathing heavily, hauls herself away from Nuri and
Japhet, dusting herself off.

The girls stare at one another saying nothing. Raveed, Nuri
and Japhet drag Temira off, scolding her as they go.

                       RAVEED
What is wrong with you Temira?

                       TEMIRA
She's jealous. They're all
jealous! Just jealous!

                       NURI
Jealous of what? Tzefan-Yah?

The three of them laugh but Raveed quickly recovers and
stares hard at Temira.

                       RAVEED
      (scornfully)
Everyone saw you down there with
him. Have you taken leave of your
senses?

                       TEMIRA
      (indignant)
Have you?! I saw what the three
of you did! Tzefan's done nothing
wrong, why do you hate him so
much!

                       RAVEED
      (rolling eyes)
Temira...
      (long hesitation)
Do not try to understand the
things of men. Just do your
brothers a favor, stay away from
the donkey keeper.

13.

EXT. TEMIRA'S CAMP - NIGHT

They stop in front of her small herd of goats. Raveed bends
down and picks up the staff she had thrown down earlier,
handing it to her as he nods in the direction of her
animals.

                       RAVEED
      (sternly)
You have a job here. Don't leave
us to do it for you again.

Her brothers walk off, and Temira is left with her own
thoughts and feelings. She sits on the ground and glances
down into the valley toward Tzefan's camp.

EXT. MOUNTAIN RIDGE - NIGHT

Far above the King's valley two men are watching the
unfolding drama. It is Jehdeiah, the Kings officer over the
stewards who keep the flocks, and SHAPHAT, the officer of
the cattle.

                       JEHDEIAH
They're a quarrelsome lot tonight
aren't they.

                       SHAPHAT
Most nights.

                       JEHDEIAH
What ever do they find to fight
over?

                       SHAPHAT
I don't have those answers
Jehdeiah.

                       JEHDEIAH
Mmmm. Uncivilized.

                       SHAPHAT
Extremely.
      (yawning)
It's a burden if anything.

Shaphat whistles to a young man down the hill, and waves.

The steward turns and waves back, nodding.

                       SHAPHAT
I'm turning in. Are you coming?

14.

                       JEHDEIAH
I'll be along shortly.

                       SHAPHAT
      (chiding)
Don't contaminate yourself. We
have a...vexing day ahead us
tomorrow.

                       JEHDEIAH
I thought I would try to ah,
forget about it awhile.

                       SHAPHAT
      (feigned surprise)
The Kings address? Really?

                       JEHDEIAH
We all know what's to be said.
David is only making it offical.

                       SHAPHAT
      (dripping disgust)
Never-the-less. The whole
population of Jerusalem will be
there. What a mess. I despise
crowds.
      (spits
       dramatically)

                       JEHDEIAH
      (smiles)
Cheer up friend. At least there
will be drinking...and feasting.

Shaphat walks off without looking back.

                       JEHDEIAH
      (whispering)
Ah yes, the Kings all important
address. I believe I shall
thoroughly enjoy it, and all the
little festivities.

EXT. LIVESTOCK CORRALS - DAY

The time of the Kings address has arrived and Temira has
joined her brothers in the city. It will be a week before
anyone returns to work as usual, to celebrate the observance
of the new King. Temira is busily throwing hay to her
goats, unaware of the presence of someone with her in the
corral. As she stands watching the young goats play, an

15.

ominous shadow is cast over her and she turns around to find
Jehdeiah standing behind her.

                       JEHDEIAH
      (coyly)
Well, aren't you Raveeds little
sister?

                       TEMIRA
      (boldly)
I have three brothers.
      (looks around)
I'm waiting for them now.

Jehdeiah notices that she is feisty and tries to intimidate
her.

                       JEHDEIAH
      (calmly)
Oh I'm afraid they won't make it.
I've sent them on to the Kings
court. I wasn't aware that you
were going with them.

                       TEMIRA
      (smartly)
And I wasn't aware that my plans
were any of your business.

                       JEHDEIAH
Normally, that would be true.
However, finding out that I've
left you, somewhat, abandoned, I
feel personally responsible...

                       TEMIRA
      (offended)
Normally? Perhaps it will ease
your fears then, if we just keep
everything like any other normal
time and I, will be on my way.

Temira starts to walk away but Jehdeiah steps in front of
her blocking the way.

                       JEHDEIAH
Or not.

Temira backs away, looking for a way to reach the gate that
he is blocking. Her expression shows that she is now
feeling a twinge of worry.

16.

                       TEMIRA
In that case, I will join my
mother at home...

                       JEHDEIAH
      (suggestively)
Alone? The throngs are stifling
and a young girl could easily
disappear in such a crowd...
      (feigning
       disinterest)
I wouldn't even consider allowing
you to go alone.

EXT. STABLE WALL - DAY

Hiding behind the stable wall, Asef and ORIS watch, and wait
for a signal from Jehdeiah.

EXT. LIVESTOCK CORRALS - DAY

As Jehdeiah takes a step toward Temira, she makes a dash
around him for the gate. Jehdeiah raises his hand,
signaling Asef and Oris, who step into her way and trap her
in their arms.

                       JEHDEIAH
      (sneering)
Gentlemen, escort my charge as you
have been instructed.

Jehdeiah turns on a heel and disappears from sight into the
maze of low slung stables and thatched roof dwellings.

EXT. STREETS - DAY

Dragging Temira along the narrow back streets of Jerusalem
she fights them all the way. It is only made worse that
they are her peers from the fields.

                       TEMIRA
      (gritting teeth)
Low down! Mangy dogs! Yellow
curs! Release me!

                       ASEF
Shut up! We have orders!

Asef and Oris snatch her along.

17.

Temira, changing her tactics, hoping to play on their
sympathies, relaxes her fighting.

                       TEMIRA
Just loose me and I swear I will
come along quietly, please, Oris,
you know my brothers will see you
dead when they hear about this.

Oris, listening to her threats begins to have misgivings.
His expression changes to one of realization.

                       ASEF
Don't listen to her Oris! We have
orders. You think we don't know
you Temira.

She struggles against them harder, now catching the
attention of passersby but no one brave enough to confront
the Kings hired stewards, no matter how menial the
occupation.

                       TEMIRA
Oris, Asef, please, I promise.

They continue to drag her along. Every thing becomes a blur
as she realizes they are not going to let her go, and as
fear overtakes reason, she lashes out at Oris, the quieter
of the two, scratching his face.

Oris yowls in startled pain as her nails rake his cheek. She
jerks away from them only to fall on the ground right at
someones feet.

Both Oris and Asef freeze in place. Oris covers his
scratched cheek.

Temira, wasting no time, rushes to escape, but instead she
is pulled to her feet by strong arms. Her heart sinks into
her stomach, thinking it is Jehdeiah. She is turned around
to face a giant man.

He looks her over, carefully making sure she is not injured.

She blushes. His eyes are strangely gentle. He straightens
her dress and cloak, then releases her. She flees into the
crowded streets.

Asef and Oris start after her, their fear of Jehdeiah's
anger clouding their good senses.

KING SOLOMON blocks them, smiling sternly, brow lifted,
strong fisted hands on his hips.

18.

                       SOLOMON
I wouldn't do it. Not today.

                       ASEF
      (fearfully)
We have orders!

                       SOLOMON
Whose orders?

Solomon is answered with silence.

                       SOLOMON
      (threatening)
Your orders are, to report to the
Praetorian. I'll expect to see
you there, right up front. And
tell your master, I'll expect to
see him there as well.

Asef and Oris turn and bolt with Solomon's booming, baritone
laughter chasing them down the street.

EXT. TEMIRA'S APPLE ORCHARD - DAY

ONLY TIME M.O. BY ENYA.

From her mother's orchard's on the hill over looking
Jerusalem, Temira sits beneath the apple trees and watches
all the excitement unfolding below in the city. She is
still upset by the mornings tragic offense and cannot bring
herself to attend the Kings coronation speech so, eating
raisin cakes and mandrakes, she comforts herself from the
confusion of it all, as around her everything is changing.

END SCENE WITH M.O. (ONLY TIME) BY ENYA.

EXT. JERUSALEM - DAY

The city of Jerusalem is teeming with life and activity.
There is a festive, expectant, exciting, crisp feeling in
the air. The whole population has gathered today for the
King's address. They've been arriving for several days. The
streets are filled to capacity. One can hardly move. People
are buying and vendors are selling. There is royalty and
servant together, camel and donkey, as one, all moving
toward the common courts of the Temple where King David and
his son Solomon will soon appear. All the King's Officials,
Priests, Musicians, Officers and Overseers are required to
attend and are in place. The two men chosen to blow the

19.

massive Shofars blast out the final call to gather. The
Coronation is about to begin.

EXT. ROAD TO THE CITY - DAY

With the morning sun at his back, Tzefan rests against a
gnarled tree near a bubbling stream, playing his lute. Three
elder shepherds, MICAH, KESTOR, and AMI-EL, approaching on
the way to the Coronation stop to chat with him.

                       MICAH
      (happily)
Well look, Kestor, Ami-el, it's
master Tzefan. Your on the wrong
side of the wall aren't you now,
son?

Tzefan stops playing his lute and looks at the three of them
questioningly.

                       TZEFAN
What do you mean?

                       MICAH
Shouldn't you be inside the city
today young master?

Kestor and Ami-el snicker.

                       MICAH
There is a big speech today you
know. Pretty important. Why
look, the whole country has turned
out...

Micah sweeps his arm dramatically and smiles.

                       TZEFAN
      (rolls eyes)
I'm not going.

                       MICAH
Oh hogwash, what have you got to
lose? Of course your going to the
King's party, you can join us,
we'll show ya the ropes! C-mon
fella's help him up.

Kestor and Ami-el each take a side and pull Tzefan up by the
arms.

20.

Tzefan looks back and forth at them warily, unsure of their
motives. They seem sincere so he carefully proceeds with
them toward the gates of the city, placing his lute in his
shoulderpack.

Falling into step together and melding into the throng the
three of them converse with Tzefan who responds only
sparingly.

                       MICAH
Why don't you tell us about
yourself young master?

                       TZEFAN
Mmmm, it wouldn't be much to talk
about.

                       AMI-EL
Awww, everyone has some story to
tell, c-mon tell us yours.

                       TZEFAN
      (sighs)
Really, there's nothing to tell.

Micah gazes at him compassionately.

                       MICAH
What are you hiding then, master
Tzefan?

Tzefan stumbles over his steps, almost stopping. Kestor and
Ami-el take his arms and pull him right along never missing
a step with Micah.

                       MICAH
At my age I've learned, when a man
has no story to tell, usually
means he's hiding something.

                       TZEFAN
      (rising temper)
Well I'm hiding nothing. And if I
were I'd not be telling it to the
like's of you three.

                       MICAH
      (looking hurt)
You've cut us to the quik. What
harm have we done ya, except to
make you feel welcome?

21.

                       TZEFAN
You- you've insulted my honor.

                       MICAH
What honor would that be boy?
You've let Jehdeiah and most all
the boys treat you any way they
liked...
      (winking)
and the girls, well, there's
whispers about you.

                       TZEFAN
      (beating chest
       with every word)
Bite your tongue old man! I tell
you, I've nothing to hide!
      (huffily)
And I don't care what they think
of me!

                       MICAH
      (grinning)
Now there's a manly response, ay
boys.

Kestor and Ami-el smile and shrug.

                       MICAH
Don't lose a tooth master, I was
just trying to help...inform you,
of the situation at hand. Give
you some much needed advice.

                       TZEFAN
I don't need your advice. I don't
need anything.

                       MICAH
      (bowing)
As you wish young master.

EXT. CITY STREETS - DAY

Entering the city they pass a Vegetable Vendor. Micah
reaches out and filches a carrot bunch. The vendor raises
his fist in anger. Kestor tosses the man a coin, vendor
bites it to see if it is good. Micah hands a carrot to each
of them and as they munch, they begin to take in the sights
and sounds of the crowded market place. Micah makes up a
little song as they walk.

22.

BEGIN CITY STREET MONTAGE (EVERYONE NEEDS SOMETHING).

THE MARKET PLACE.

                       MICAH
      (singing baritone)
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A KING
WITHOUT A QUEEN?!
OR A BIRD IN FLIGHT
WITHOUT A WING?
EVERYONE NEEDS SOMETHING!

Micah, Kestor and Ami-el wind their way through the crowded
market streets bobbing their heads to the beat of the song.
Tzefan just walks looking sheepish.

                       MICAH
      (singing)
HAVE YOU EVER CAUGHT A FISH
WITHOUT A HOOK?
WITHOUT THE WATER,
WHERE WOULD BE THE BROOK?
EVERYONE NEEDS SOMETHING...

Dodging little children, dogs, cats, mice, chickens, and
Hawkers hollering.

                       MICAH
      (singing)
A MAN WITHOUT A NEED
IS A FOOLISH THING INDEED!
EVERYONE NEEDS SOMETHING!

Micah stops to sing to an Old Woman sitting on a blanket
selling spices.

                       MICAH
      (singing)
IT WAS PROVEN HEAVENS DARK
WITHOUT THE LIGHT OF MOON AND
STARS....
EVERYONE NEEDS SOMETHING!

She gives them a toothless grin and blows them a kiss. Micah
blows one back to her, smiling. They walk on, now entering
the commons full of people.

                       MICAH
      (singing)
NEED I SAY ONE THING MORE?
WISDOM'S RIGHT, YOU KNOW THE
SCORE!
EVERYONE NEEDS SOMETHING!

23.

Kestor and Ami-el now join Micah singing the chorus. A
small crowd gathers encircling them and clapping to the beat
of the song. Tzefan looks at the faces of the people, and as
his eyes rove across the sea of faces the eyes of a girl,
her face hidden by a veil captures his attention. He snaps
his head back around thinking it is Sameh, but the girl he
saw is gone and the crowd presses in.

Tzefan desperately searches the crowd for her, as Micah ends
the song.

                       MICAH
      (singing)
EVERY-ONE-NEEDS-SOMETHING!
SOME-THING'S-A-THING
THAT EVERYBODY NEEDS!
I NEED!
YOU NEED!
WE ALL NEED...SOMETHING!

END MARKET PLACE MONTAGE.

EXT. COLUMN STEPS - DAY

Everyone laughs except Tzefan, and pressing through the
throng Micah finds a shaded spot on the tremendous column
steps as close as they can get to the King's High Court.

EXT. THE COMMONS - DAY

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC SPLITS THE AIR, interrupting the crowded
temple courts. The people go silent and suddenly all eyes
turn upward to the high court porch. The crowd holds it's
breath as every living soul knows they are about to see the
King.

EXT. THE STAGE OF THE HIGH COURT - DAY

Assembled at various levels on either side of the stage, all
the Officials of Israel, the princes of all the Tribes, and
the Commanders of hundreds and the Overseers of all the
property and livestock belonging to the King and his sons
with the Officers and the Mighty Men, even the Valiant Men
stand to their feet as an aged King David steps onto the
stage.

                       KING DAVID
      (echoing loudly)
Listen to me my brethren and my
people. I had intended to build a
permanent home for the Ark of the
            (MORE)

24.

                       KING DAVID (cont'd)
Covenant of the Lord, and for a
footstool of our God. So I made
preparations to build it, but God
made it clear to me that I would
not, saying, "because you are a
man of war and bloodshed", He has
chosen, of all my sons, Solomon,
to sit on the throne of the
Kingdom over Israel. And God said
to me, " Your son Solomon is the
one who shall build My house and
My courts for I have chosen him to
be a son to Me and I will be a
Father to him."

The crowds CHEER but David lifts his hand to bring silence.

                       KING DAVID
Now in the sight of all Israel,
the assembly of the Lord and in
the hearing of God, I pass the
throne of my Kingdom to my son
Solomon.

David turns to face Solomon.

                       KING DAVID
Solomon, observe and seek after
all the commandments of the Lord
your God, in order that you may
possess the good land and give it
to your son's after you forever.

David hands Solomon the plans of the Temple, the plans of
all he had in mind, for the courts of the house of the Lord.

                       KING DAVID
Be strong and courageous and act.
Do not fear or be dismayed for the
Lord God, my God, is with you. He
will not fail you or forsake you.
Be strong until all the work for
the service of the house of the
Lord is finished. Now behold and
see before you, the divisions of
the Priests, and the Levites, for
all the service of the house of
God and every willing man of any
skill will be with you in all the
work for all kinds of service. The
Officials also and all the people
will be entirely at your command.

25.

David bows low in humble honor to Solomon, and turning back
to face the people he raises his arms in supplication.

                       KING DAVID
Now bless the Lord your God!

And all the assembly and the people blessed the Lord, the
God of their father's and bowed low and did homage to the
Lord and to the King.

EXT. OLIVE TREE ORCHARD - DAY

Having had enough excitement for one day, Micah, Kestor,
Ami-el and even Tzefan decide to return to the solitude of
the fields. They walk along in the late afternoon sunlit
orchards of olive and pomegranate, talking.

                       MICAH
When Solomon takes the throne, he
will soon begin to appoint his new
staff.

                       TZEFAN
      (brow furrowed)
New staff? Will he change
everything?

                       MICAH
Don't worry. Everyone will have a
fair chance. King David said it
himself.

                       TZEFAN
That's what concerns me.

                       MICAH
      (squinting eyes)
Why? Don't you think you'd have a
chance?

Their discussion is interrupted by a loud shout. Turning
around, they are suddenly joined by Temira who has been
running to catch up with them. They allow her to catch her
breath. Tzefan tries not to look too happy to see her.

                       TEMIRA
      (panting)
Thank goodness I found you! Are
you going back to the fields?

They all nod at once. Micah takes her arm.

26.

                       MICAH
Walk with us.

                       TZEFAN
      (sarcastically)
Her brothers will kill her, or
possibly, us.

                       MICAH
      (chuckles lovingly)
They'll kill no one.

                       KESTOR
We have known them since Temira
was a babe.

                       AMI-EL
We bounced her on our knee.

Temira blushes.

                       MICAH
We spoiled her shamefully while
her mama worked in the days after
her papa died.

They continue walking, reaching the edge of the orchard and
moving out from the city down the hill and into the
countryside.

                       TEMIRA
Which only managed to make my
brothers very angry with me.

                       MICAH
You were just too much trouble for
them.

                       TEMIRA
      (snorting)
Hmmph! They just didn't want to
be babysitters.

                       MICAH
      (laughingly)
They still don't! They need a
babysitter themselves.

INT. THE KING'S PRIVATE CHAMBER - DAY

In the chamber of the King's palace, the King and his son
retire for the evening to talk about the days events but
Solomon is restless and paces the floor relentlessly.

                       KING DAVID
What ails you, son? You should be
basking in glory and yet you seem
so far away.

                       SOLOMON
Of course father I am, it's
just...

                       KING DAVID
Just what my son?

                       SOLOMON
      (shrugging)
I don't know.

                       KING DAVID
      (sighs)
I understand. It can be difficult,
at times overwhelming, the
responsibilities of a Nation...
      (thoughtfully)
Perhaps you need a change of
scenery. A tour of the Kingdom.
To ease your mind. Relax. To...
review and admire what we've
built.

                       SOLOMON
Perhaps.

Solomon takes note of his fathers increasing age.

                       SOLOMON
But who will oversee our affairs
here, if not me?

                       KING DAVID
Have I not thousands at my
disposal?

David claps his hand and several girls, concubines, enter
the room. He barks orders and they rush to do his bidding.

INT. SERVANT QUARTERS - NIGHT

A travelling party is happily arranged for Solomon.

BEGIN TRAVEL PARTY MONTAGE (INSTRUMENTAL M.O. FIFTEEN TONS)

THE KITCHENS.

Women house servants packing food, drink and various
supplies for the trip, dancing to the music as they put it
all together in cases and animal skin bags.

THE STABLES.

Male stable men leading horses around as they saddle and
attach harnesses, dancing in a mechanical form to the music.

THE WAGON SHEDS.

Men and women servants bringing the supply wagons and
palanquin out into the commons dancing in a Egyptian form to
the music as they wash and shine the royal carraige and load
the wagons with supplies.

WEAPONS ARMORY.

Male soldiers dance hip hop to the music as they dress in
uniform and shine their swords and different weapons.

END TRAVEL PARTY MONTAGE.

INT. SOLOMONS QUARTERS - NIGHT

In the pre dawn hush, Solomon quietly dismisses his room
servant and having made up his mind, silently dresses in the
most common clothing he can find, and a scarf to cover his
face. He slips through the corridors of the palace
unnoticed. Sneaking a horse from the stable, he leaves
through a camel gate in the wall.

EXT. THE COMMONS - DAY

The servants and soldiers have gathered in the morning at
the commons to wait for Solomon, but he doesn't show up
having slipped out and left on his own. Though deeply
concerned the servants decide to keep this information from
the King, not wanting to worry him until they have all the
details.

29.

EXT. THE COUNTRYSIDE - DAY

By horseback, disguised as a shepherd, Solomon rides,
travelling down into the far country. The fresh air begins
to relax him, and before long, he is smiling. Along the way
he meets up with a small caravan. He joins them. They are
a strange crew, but Solomon decides not to ask any
questions. He just wants to be common, like everyone else.

As they ride on into the night Ahmed, the leader of the
foursome, tells Solomon the story about his son. He
introduces Sameh, and Solomon listens with grave compassion.
Solomon spends the night with them also meeting Azhara and
Shabouh. The party shares food with Solomon and in the
morning they bade each other farewell.

                       SOLOMON
If you do not find this amazing
son I hope he comes to his senses
and returns home.

                       AHMED
As do we my friend. Perhaps you
might meet up with him in your
travels.

                       SOLOMON
Perhaps...I just might. What is
his name?

                       AHMED
      (with fatherly
       pride)
Tzefan-Yah!

                       SOLOMON
      (riding off)
If I meet up with this Tzefan-Yah
I will send him back to you.

                       AHMED
      (speaking louder)
Thank you! May you also reach
your destination without mishap!
      (now shouting)
And lord! I don't know your name,
but tell him...tell him his father
loves him!!

                       SAMEH
      (shouting)
We all love him!

30.

Solomon waves as he rides off, and a strange feeling settles
deep in his bones as those final words land in his heart.

LOVE WILL BRING YOU BACK. M.O. BY KYLA.

BEGIN SAMEH'S MEMORY MONTAGE TO LOVE WILL BRING YOU BACK BY
KYLA.

Sameh stands with the early morning sun all around her and
begins to see quick images of she and Tzefan growing up
together. Once when they were very young and are playing by
a river she stumps her toe on a rock and he laughs but
quickly comforts her with a flower. She smiles forgetting
all about her toe. Another time we see them running
together, holding hands and entering a vineyard where they
pick grapes. At another age we see Sameh struggling with
large clay water jugs on a wooden yoke across her shoulders
and Tzefan runs up and takes them on his own shoulders as
Sameh watches him in admiration. As they become older we see
them shyly hold hands and kiss beneath a full moon, then
Sameh's sad face as Tzefan and his father argue and he
leaves running, from their family tent. She runs after him
but he won't look back. She stands in the shimmering desert
sun alone.

END MEMORY MONTAGE.

EXT. SHEEP CAMP - DAY

Presently Solomon spies a sheep camp and heads for it. He
enters unnoticed. The activity is bustling and Solomon
blends right in, finding a place to rest among the shepherds
while eating a leg of mutton from one of the cook fires. As
he munches he HEARS SOME ARGUING.

EXT. SHEEPCAMP ARGUMENT - DAY

                       RAVEED
I thought I told you to stay home,
and tend the vineyards!

Raveed turns to Nuri.

                       RAVEED
Didn't I tell you to keep her
home!

                       TEMIRA
I don't want to work in the
vineyards!

31.

They both ignore Temira and she throws up her arms in
frustration.

                       NURI
Yes! You did! But how am I to
force her, She does whatever she
wants!

                       JAPHET
We both told her Raveed! Don't
blame us, blame her mother! She
let's her get away with murder!

                       RAVEED
Idiots! It's up to us, not
mother!

                       TEMIRA
      (vehemently)
Don't talk about me like I'm not
here...your not my boss Raveed!
None of you! I-

                       RAVEED
Shut up Temira! You don't know
what is good for you! You cannot
stay out of trouble! Always
hounding after that donkey keeper!
I saw you with him again this
morning!

A huge argument ensues between the four of them.

EXT. SOLOMON SHEEPCAMP ARGUEMENT - DAY

Before he realizes it, Solomon is swept into the moment and
comes to defend the shepherd girl's honor. Covering his
face with his scarf, he stands up. As he steps into the
circle, an ELDER SHEPHERD, MICAH, takes his arm.

                       MICAH
It's no use, you won't change
anything. They've been at it for
years. Don't worry, we'll pick up
the pieces for her later...

Micah trails off as Solomon turns, giving him a threatening
stare.

Micah's arm drops to his side and Solomon steps in.

32.

                       SOLOMON
      (forceful, booming)
Silence!

Silence falls upon them and a hot desert wind blows around
their feet. Temira backs away. Raveed, Nuri and Japhet
square off to see who would have the disrespect to interfere
in their family dispute. Solomon towers over them but it
doesn't stop Raveed from confronting him unknowingly.

                       RAVEED
This is none of your business, she
is our sister and we don't need
help contolling her!

                       SOLOMON
You are disturbing my rest and it
is clear...you don't have control
of anything.
      (Solomon turns to
       Temira)
What is this about?

                       TEMIRA
      (carefully, while
       watching her
       brother from the
       side of her eyes,
       then quickly
       before she
       changes her mind)
They, they want me to stay home
and work the vineyards! But I keep
the goats...

Raveed grabs her arm.

                       RAVEED
Not today you don't keep the
goats. I will take you home
myself!
      (he glares at
       Solomon)
It is not her choice.

Raveed and Temira struggle, pulling each other back and
forth.

                       SOLOMON
Nor yours! Let her go.

Solomon approaches Raveed menacingly. Raveed releases
Temira. She scampers into the safety of Micah's arms as

33.

Solomon, Raveed, Nuri and Japhet fall into fists. Solomon
easily overcomes them and warns them sternly to leave her
alone for once and all.

The three of them skulk off to lick their wounds and grumble
together how best to get vengeance on the overly
authoritative stranger, never realizing it is their newly
appointed king.

EXT. SHEEP CAMP - DAY

Solomon watches Temira for the rest of the day, recognizing
her as the girl he rescued in the marketplace . Every now
and then he catches her glancing covertly at him from
beneath her lashes, but she stays near the tents the rest of
the day. Solomon is instantly smitten with her and a feeling
he has never tasted creeps lazily down his spine, settling
in his heart.

EXT. EDGE OF SHEEP CAMP - DAY

Raveed, Nuri and Japhet take out their frustrations on
Tzefan as he walks by. They rough him up, throwing him back
and forth between themselves, teasing, laughing and
intimidating him with threatening looks. He dodges their
blows but trips and tears his cloak. Temira rushes over to
help him.

                       TEMIRA
      (lightheartedly)
Oh, you've torn it. But not to
worry, I can sew it up for you.

                       TZEFAN
Forget it, you don't have to cover
for them.

Tzefan tries to recover but she stands her ground and he
gives in, letting her have the cloak. They walk together to
one of the tents and disappear inside.

Solomon starts to see the difference of life in the fields
and that night as small fires dot the hillsides Solomon
approaches Temira as she watches over her little herd.
Temira pretends disinterest as he walks up.

34.

EXT. TEMIRA'S CAMPFIRE - NIGHT

                       SOLOMON
      (inquisitively)
Your brothers seem, very angry
with you. Do you cross them
often?

                       TEMIRA
      (suspiciously)
If you are looking for gratitude
you won't find it here, and as for
my brother's, they have been angry
since the day I was born.

                       SOLOMON
      (astonished)
With you?

                       TEMIRA
      (giving him a
       funny look)
Of course not with me.
      (smiles)
With our father. Our mother is a,
widow.

                       SOLOMON
      (with compassion)
I see.

                       TEMIRA
And, so, they are angry because
they have to work.

                       SOLOMON
Interesting. And what about you?
Are you angry because you have to
work?

                       TEMIRA
      (shrugging)
Work doesn't bother me. But the
vineyards are, too. . . lonely.

                       SOLOMON
      (peering into the
       night sky)
Now that's interesting. A woman
who isn't bothered by work. Not
something I am used to hearing.

35.

                       TEMIRA
      (cocking head to
       one side)
Just who are you anyway? One of
the King's spies? A new hire? A
traveller?

                       SOLOMON
      (snapping to
       reality answers
       mysteriously)
None...or perhaps, all. You
decide.

                       TEMIRA
      (with a snort)
You sound like Tzefan. Full of
secrets, a man from no where.

Solomon instantly recognizes the name and cannot believe his
good fortune to so quickly hear something concerning Ahmeds
lost son, even as a small jolt of jealousy twinges his heart
as he realizes how much time the shepherd girl has been
spending with this Tzefan fellow. He presses her for
information.

                       SOLOMON
Tzefan? Strange name. And just
what is this Tzefan fellow, to
you?

                       TEMIRA
      (casually)
Oh, no one I suppose, just one the
shepherds among us all, but he is
not well liked, at all. He is a
bit, awkward.

                       SOLOMON
Mmmm.

The twinge of jealousy that had sprouted, suddenly
extinguishes.

                       TEMIRA
But I cannot understand what makes
Tzefan so mature, so kind and
generous, for someone so,
mistreated. I don't care what any
of them say, I will be his friend.

The spark reignites and Solomon clenches his jaw.

36.

                       SOLOMON
      (with a slightly
       strained voice)
Are you sure it's not more than
that?

                       TEMIRA
More? What more is there?

Temira looks at the tall stranger with eyes full of genuine
question. She has never examined her feelings for Tzefan
that closely, but her nameless rescuer awakens something
deep within her.

WHEN I FALL IN LOVE M.O. BY CELINE DION.

Solomon and Temira lock eyes and a strange, new,
overwhelming emotion grips her. The darkness is soft all
around, and evening doves quietly chirp, singing themselves
to sleep. A warm breeze envelopes the night and all around,
the sounds of the herds, gentle tinkling of bells, the
muffled rustle of the leaves of juniper trees all fade away
as Solomon leans close and kisses Temira.

                       SOLOMON
This much more, shepherd girl. Do
you like him this much more?

                       TEMIRA
      (breathlessly)
No...never, that much more.

Satisfied that she has not known this Tzefan any closer,
Solomon smiles at her wide eyed wonder. Taking her long
black hair in his hands, it runs like silk through his
fingers. Taking her face in his hands he kisses her
romantically, lingering just a moment, to never forget this
feeling. Solomon looks deep into her eyes.

                       SOLOMON
      (whispering gently)
I hope it is never, that much
more.

Temira is forever changed.

WHEN I FALL IN LOVE M.O.

EXT. TZEFANS CAMPFIRE - NIGHT

From the not too distant hillside, Tzefan watches Temira and
the tall stranger exchange conversation, cringing with

37.

heartbreak as their two shadows meld together against the
moonlit sky. His expression is nostalgic as he is thinks of
Sameh. He hears the sound of FOOTSTEPS APPROACHING. It is
his new found friends, Micah, Kestor, and Ami-el. They sit
down with him.

                       MICAH
We thought you could use some of
this.
      (handing him a
       wineskin.)

                       TZEFAN
      (smiling blandly)
Yeah, everyone needs something.
      (said
       sarcastically)

                       MICAH
      (putting his arm
       around Tzefan's
       shoulders)
Don't take it too hard Tzefan, the
life out here, it comes and goes
quickly.

Tzefan takes a long swig of the warm red wine, slightly
choking, wiping his lips on his sleeve. The wineskin is
passed around a couple of times and as the soothing effect
of the ferment relaxes Tzefan, he starts to talk.

                       TZEFAN
Yeah, I had a family once. Big
family. And a betrothed too.
Could have sworn I saw her in the
crowd at the King's address.
      (shaking his head)
It looked just like her beautiful
eyes. Blue as the night sky. Nice
too. But, I had to leave them
all.

He takes another long swill and hiccups.

                       KESTOR
      (look of pain)
That's terrible master.

Micah and Ami-el nod.

                       MICAH
What made you leave?

38.

Tzefan passes the wine, but they pass it right back without
drinking. He never notices, taking another long draught.

                       AMI-EL
Yeah, why'd you walk away just
like that?

                       TZEFAN
      (now slurring)
Cause I had to show them. I'm no
King.
      (hiccups)
Nobody would listen. I tried to
tell them. I'm not fit material
to be a King but they just
wouldn't listen. So I came out
here. To prove it.

                       MICAH
To prove it master?

                       TZEFAN
      (slurring)
Yep. And that's just what I'm
doing. Proving them wrong.
      (hiccups)

Tzefan drinks again.

                       MICAH
Eh, let me see if I'm getting
this. Are you proving them wrong?
Or right?

                       TZEFAN
      (staring drunkenly)
Uh, yeah, right. No, wrong. Are
you trying to confuse me Micah,
cause if so, it's working.
      (hiccups, smiles
       at himself)

They all laugh. Tzefan lies back crossing his arms behind
his head and peers up at the stars.

                       TZEFAN
      (dreamily)
Micah.

                       MICAH
Eh, master?

39.

                       TZEFAN
The stars are swimming in the sky
tonight.

                       MICAH
Yeah, I've seen'em do that before,
myself.

                       AMI-EL
Tell us master, what kind of king
might you be?

                       TZEFAN
      (chuckling)
The King of the Wilderness.
      (laughs at himself)

They laugh along hoping he'll spill the secret. Tzefan sits
up and finishes off the wine.

                       TZEFAN
Yes! Look at Tzefan! Great King
of the Wilderness! The Gem of
Paran! Never has there been a
ruler of the tribe more capable
and worthy.

Tzefan beats his hands against his chest, then drops his
head in defeat, missing their shocked expressions.

Micah, Ami-el and Kestor look at one another wide eyed.

                       MICAH
      (shocked whisper)
The Gem of Paran...is a person?
You? You, are the Legend of the
Gem of Paran?

Tzefan babbles on, not paying attention to their statements
of awe raising his arm with over dramatic sweeps through the
air.

                       TZEFAN
I've lived in royalty my whole
life. Been waited on hand and
foot. Had the whole world at my
command, or at least my tribe, and
they have groomed me to take my
father's place, but I just can't
do it, I just can't. It's no use.
I can't even see in the dark.

40.

                       KESTOR
      (snorting)
Awww, master, a little night
blindness never hurt anyone.

                       MICAH
So, your running.

                       TZEFAN
      (shaking head
       profusely)
No Micah! Not running. Proving.

                       MICAH
Your only proving you can run.

                       TZEFAN
      (drunken angry
       slurring)
And what would you know about
that, wise old man! I'll bet you
have another song for me, eh, but
not tonight. I'll not be hearing
it from you, cause I have a job to
do, and I'm doing it.

Tzefan stumbles to his feet and drunkenly weaves in and out
of the donkeys. He bumps into a donkey and grabs it around
the neck for support. The donkey walks with Tzefan, half
dragging him along.

Micah searches the outer rims of darkness looking for Temira
but he cannot find her or her herd. A full moon
illuminates the hilltops against the night sky.

                       MICAH
      (looking at Kestor
       and Ami-el)
There is more to young master
Tzefan than meets the eye.

Kestor and Ami-el hiccup. A donkey BRAYS in the distance.

INT. SOLOMONS PRIVATE QUARTERS - DAY

Solomon, having returned from the fields, is confronted by
JONATHON, his father's uncle and hired counselor. Solomon
doesn't want to hear Johnathon's words about King David as
they only bring fear to his heart.

                       JONATHON
Solomon, your father is dying.

41.

                       SOLOMON
I'll not hear it! Not another word
of it. My father will live and
see his son sit on the throne over
the kingdom God has blessed us
with!

                       JONATHON
You should prepare yourself.

                       SOLOMON
That is ridiculous uncle. My
father has years to live and there
is so much going on right now.

                       JONATHON
So much of what? Courting that
Shulamite girl down in the
pastures? Really Solomon,
shouldn't you be more discreet.

Solomon jerks around and walks up to his father's uncle.

                       SOLOMON
You will cease this talk. I honor
you as my father's uncle, but you
will not interfere in my personal
life.

                       JONATHON
Tell that to your Officials and
palace help. They can't talk
enough about it.

                       SOLOMON
You are dismissed, uncle.

After Jonathon has gone, Solomon slowly dresses in his
shepherds garb. He leaves the palace from a camel gate and
doesn't look back.

INT. PALACE BALCONY - DAY

Jonathon, JOAB, the King's nephew and MIKLOTH, a chief
officer of King David's court stand on the private balcony
in Jonathon's quarters and gravely discuss the situation
concerning Solomon.

                       JONATHON
We must put a stop to Solomon's
foolishness. He's becoming a
laughingstock all over the city.

42.

                       JOAB
How do you propose we put a stop
to anything Solomon does? Have
you forgotten he will soon take
his father's place on the throne.

                       JONATHON
That is the very reason we must
act quickly. It is for his own
good.

                       MIKLOTH
What you are suggesting, however,
may not be in our best interest.

                       JONATHON
Why is that, Mikloth?

                       MIKLOTH
His wrath, Jonathon.

                       JONATHON
      (scornfully)
His wrath, Mikloth? We have been
hired to protect the interest of
this kingdom. Are you telling me
you are now suddenly afraid of
doing your job? What of both your
and Joabs past evil
accomplishments carried out for
David? This is no different.
      (with finality)
Dispose of the girl. I don't care
how, just do it.

                       MIKLOTH
As you wish, Jonathon.

EXT. SHEPHERD'S TENTS - DAY

Solomon arrives at the sheep camp and diligently searches
for Temira. He recognizes her herd however, walking up,
finds it is not Temira, but several other young women
tending her flock.

He approaches them with caution, but they welcome him with
coy smiles.

                       SOLOMON
      (bowing)
Daughters.
      (searching their
       faces)

43.

                       SOLOMON (cont'd)
Have you seen Temira?

Kefina, Rimona, Shira, Pazit, and Naava surround him in
admiration, all hoping to gain his attention.

                       KEFINA
We haven't seen Temira today or
yesterday.

                       RIMONA
She's been gone since you left.

                       NAAVA
      (suggestively)
And that donkey keeper is gone
too. Perhaps, they are together.
      (batting her eyes)

                       PAZIT
      (blurting out)
No! No! She's not with him. . . !

All the girls give Pazit a hateful stare. Solomon is not
intimidated and taking Pazit by the arm, leads her gently
away from them.

                       SOLOMON
You may finish what you were about
to say.

                       PAZIT
She...her brothers..

                       SOLOMON
      (nodding with
       narrowed eyes)
Ah...her brothers. Say no more
young dove.

Pazit gazes dreamily up at Solomon. Pulling aside his scarf
just a little, he bestows a winning smile upon her. All the
shepherd girls watch as Solomon bows low to them.

                       SOLOMON
      (charmingly)
I adjure you O' daughters of
Jerusalem. By the gazelles or by
the hinds of the fields, do not
awaken or arouse love until she
pleases...

44.

He drops the scarf and with a sweep of his cloaked arm he
whirls around and mounting his powerful steed, leaves them.

The young women sigh.

EXT. THE DONKEY HERD - DAY

As Solomon gallops out of the camp exploding through
Tzefan's vast herd of donkeys, a strong gust of wind rips
the scarf from his face and Tzefan stares at him in
dumbfounded shock of recognition.

EXT. HEBRON VALLEY - DAY

Solomon rides back to the city to find Temira.

EXT. GARDEN PORCH TEMIRA'S HOUSE - DAY

COME AWAY MY BELOVED M.O. BY DALE HUNTER.

Solomon peers through the lattice work into Temira's house
and can see her sleeping in the heat of the afternoon.

                       SOLOMON
      (loud whisper)
Temira my love! Wake up! Wake up
and come away with me my sister,
my dove! Temira!

Temira is sleeping so hard she does not hear Solomon. He
taps on the garden gate hoping to wake her but she won't be
aroused. Sadly, he leaves, returning to the palace.

EXT. HILLSIDE - DAY

Micah, Kestor and Ami-el join up with Tzefan for a midday
meal.

                       MICAH
We come bearing gifts master
Tzefan. Will you oblige us and
honor us with your company?

                       TZEFAN
That's what you said last time and
I ended up with a splitting head
ache. What have you brought this
time? Something to finish me off?

45.

Ami-el presents a basket with bread and cheese.

                       AMI-EL
Only food, young master.

Tzefan relents and sits with them. Ami-el breaks the bread
and passes it among them. Kestor places a clay jug of water
between them all.

                       MICAH
      (clearing throat)
Tzefan, you said some things to
us...

                       TZEFAN
      (immediately
       defensive)
What? Drunken ramblings? The
ravings of a coward? Please
Micah, I just knew you were wiser
than that. A legend. That's all
it ever was, and ever will be.

                       MICAH
Wise I am. Wise enough to know
the truth when I hear it. Stop
pretending Tzefan. We want to
help you.

                       TZEFAN
      (pleadingly)
You cannot help me Micah! Or yet,
maybe you can...by leaving it be.
It cannot be changed, now, or
ever.

                       MICAH
You hold the key to your life in
your own hand, master. Just
unlock the door and go in. Go
home Tzefan.

Tzefan slides his head scarf from his head, running his
other hand through his hair in frustration.

                       TZEFAN
Why can't you understand, Micah.
It's not that easy.

                       MICAH
Because of Temira?

Tzefan gives Micah an offended look.

46.

                       TZEFAN
Is the heat scorching your mind,
Micah?

                       MICAH
I had to ask, that's all. You
said you had a betrothed. Just
return to her. The whole world
understands the pull love has on a
heart.

                       TZEFAN
      (smirking)
I doubt even the world could
understand that, not even for a
king. Love has nothing to do with
this Micah. I rejected my birth
right, shaming my father and my
tribe. If I returned, I would be
sealing my death.
      (shaking head)
No, my fate has been marked a
wanderer forever.

                       MICAH
I just can't accept that master.

                       TZEFAN
I have, and you must also. Now,
we are never to discuss it again.
Never.

INT. SOLOMON'S QUARTERS - NIGHT

Solomon is reclining on a chaise lounge, when JEHIEL, the
tutor for King David's children enters the room and
announces Bathsheba, Solomons mother.

                       JEHIEL
Solomon, your mother wishes to
speak with you.

                       SOLOMON
Very well. Send her in and be
dismissed.

                       JEHIEL
Yes, my lord.

Solomon rises to greet his mother and she enters the room, a
slight smile gracing her delicate features. Her fair
elegance out shines most all the women in King David's

47.

court, and is a stunning contrast to the dark skin of the
Shulamite girl that Solomon cannot get off his mind.

                       BATHSHEBA
Solomon my son,
      (kissing his cheek)
do you have some time?

                       SOLOMON
Yes mother. What is distracting
you this evening?
      (pours her a
       goblet of wine)

                       BATHSHEBA
I'm afraid it is your father.

Solomon expels a breath of relief that she hasn't come to
discuss the very thoughts of his own distraction, Temira,
and steels himself for another conversation that brings him
equal heartache.

                       BATHSHEBA
He is having more trouble every
day...

                       SOLOMON
Mother, he managed to address the
whole nation recently, only to die
weeks later? I cannot believe his
health is faultering so quickly.

                       BATHSHEBA
Son, I realize it is hard for you
to accept but you must come to
reality.

Solomon pounds his fist into his hand.

                       SOLOMON
I wish you would cease trying to
convince me of this, this
nonsense! He will not leave me to
rule this nation alone. I won't
believe it! I refuse!

Bathsheba stares sorrowfully at her son.

                       BATHSHEBA
It is done Solomon. Your father
is at peace with the truth and it
is time for you to come to terms
as well. I will not address you
again. Your father is asking for

you everyday. Soon, Israel will
be in your hands.

Bathsheba kisses the palm of Solomon's hand and leaves his
chambers.

EXT. TEMIRA'S HOUSE - DAY

Returning to Temira's house just before dawn, Solomon slips
quietly into the enclosed garden porch and sees Temira
through the latticed window sitting in her bed. The strain
has become too much and having decided to reveal his true
identity to her, he calls out sadly.

                       SOLOMON
Arise my darling, my beautiful
lilly, and come away.

Temira, overjoyed to hear his voice, jumps up from her low
bed and runs to the window. His hand is through the opening,
she touches his fingers.

                       TEMIRA
Draw me after you and let us run
together!

                       SOLOMON
      (with a love
       pained groan)
Come my beloved, let us go out
into the country. We will spend
the night in the villages, and
rise early to go to the vineyards.
Let us go and see whether the vine
has budded and it's blossoms have
opened.

                       TEMIRA
      (flirtily)
If you will tell me my darling,
where you graze your flock, and
where you rest your sheep at
midday? Why should I be like a
veiled woman beside the flocks of
your friends?

                       SOLOMON
      (laughing
       regretfully)
If you do not know most beautiful
of women, follow the tracks of the
sheep and graze your young goats

by the tents of the shepherds.

Solomon is entranced with their bantering and he soon
forgets the reason he sought her out as she joins him in the
lighthearted love play. He cannot turn back and gives in
completely to her pull on his heart.

They leave the porch and mounting Solomon's horse together,
ride off into the early morning light. He thoroughly enjoys
the fact that she thinks he is only a shepherd.

EXT. HILLSIDE - DAY

Tzefan , napping soundly in the shade of a hillside cleft in
the rocks is rudely awoken to the sound of hushed talking.

                       RAVEED
You cannot just "buy" a person
Jehdeiah.

                       JEHDEIAH
You can. Or, you might just
happen to, lose someone,
accidently.

Tzefan lies frozen in unbelief as he listens to the
unfolding conversation.

                       JEHDEIAH
She is a nuisance to you and your
brothers, and the truth is, she
will be so much better off. A
girl like Temira takes a strong
hand. Who will marry a girl like
that? Have you any prospects?

                       RAVEED
I haven't even thought about it.

                       JEHDEIAH
All things you should have planned
for long ago. But it's not too
late, I have a good sized dowry I
am willing to offer.

                       RAVEED
      (shrugging)
Since you put it like that.

50.

                       JEHDEIAH
      (sugary sweet)
Of course, and all your troubles
will be over.

                       RAVEED
      (squinting one eye)
How much are you willing to offer?

Jehdeiah places an arm around Raveed's shoulder.

                       JEHDEIAH
Let us discuss that privately in
my quarters. Tomorrow.

                       RAVEED
Very well, we will be there.

                       JEHDEIAH
      (annoyed)
No, no, no. Come alone. Your
brothers will only slow down the
process.

Jehdeiah and Raveed separate.

EXT. TZEFAN HILLSIDE - DAY

Tzefan's heart is beating so hard he can barely breath. He
struggles just to wait long enough not to be caught, before
crawling out of his cool grotto. Seeing the coast is clear
he makes a mad dash for the camp.

EXT. TRIP TO VILLAGE MONTAGE - DAY

BEGIN TRIP TO VILLAGE MONTAGE. THE COLOR OF MY LOVE M.O. BY
CELINE DION.

Arriving in a small village marketplace, Solomon and Temira
walk through the crowded city streets. Solomon holds her
hand. They are completely enraptured with one another and
growing closer with each passing moment. Solomon realizes
he has never felt like this before and Temira is
experiencing the first glowing blush of love.

THE POTTERS SHED.

Solomon and Temira walk along and come to a potter at his
wheel. Solomon brings Temira in front of him and slips his
arms around her as they marvel over the potter forming a
beautiful piece of pottery.

51.

THE SPICE VENDOR.

Moving on, they buy nuts and smell various spices arrayed by
a foreign vendor.

OLIVE PRESS WITH DONKEY.

Solomon leads Temira to an olive press and shows her how the
olives are crushed to get the oil and feeds some of their
nuts to the donkey that is hitched to the large stone vat.
The donkey momentarily reminds her of Tzefan, but Solomon
notices and pulls her along. Temira quickly forgets about
her friend for the new feeling of love.

SILVER SMITH BOOTH.

For some time they stand and watch a silver smith heat and
shape almost liquid silver into a heart shaped necklace,
which Solomon buys for Temira when she is not looking.

VILLAGE VINEYARDS.

Leaving the city streets, they walk slowly along ancient
paths leading into the village vineyards. There, they tarry
among the fragrant blooms of the rambling vines, Temira
admiring the heady beauty of it all and Solomon admiring her
innocent fascination with the surroundings.

APPLE ORCHARD.

Solomon pops out from behind a bush and she runs from him.
He catches up and grabbing her hand they run together
leaving the arched hallways of the vineyard and into an
apple orchard overlooking the valley. There Solomon
embraces her lovingly and kisses her beneath a shower of
snow petal apple blossoms.

MEAL AT INN.

Returning to the village Solomon takes her to an Inn where
they enjoy an intimate meal and there, Solomon presents her
with the necklace.

RIDE HOME.

As the evening sun sets, they reach Temira's house and sit
under the apple trees in her mothers orchard. Below, the
city of Jerusalem is dark except for the occasional flicker
of a candlelit window and the full moon.

52.

Lying back upon his shoulder, Temira falls asleep. Solomon
gently eases himself from her and smiling, he raises the
silver heart necklace to his lips before quietly leaving her
to return to the palace.

END TRIP TO VILLAGE MONTAGE.

EXT. SHEEPCAMP MICAH AND TZEFAN - DAY

                       TZEFAN
Micah. It has been near to three
days and no one has seen as much
as a trace of her.

                       MICAH
      (sighing)
I told you, it is not uncommon for
her to be away.

                       TZEFAN
      (desperately)
Maybe so Micah, but NOT after what
I heard!

                       MICAH
      (snapping)
What shall we do then? Tzefan,
have you a clue?

                       TZEFAN
      (making direct eye
       contact)
We must go into the city. To look
for her.

                       MICAH
      (downcast)
You will find no help there, young
master.

                       TZEFAN
      (confidently)
Oh but I will.

                       MICAH
Her mysterious shepherd friend?

                       TZEFAN
He is no shepherd Micah, he
is...the King.

53.

Micah's expression is a mixture of shock, horror and
disbelief.

                       MICAH
      (slowly)
Young master, you've said alot of
things since I have known you
and...I have believed you, but
perhaps the heat...

                       TZEFAN
I saw his face! One day when he
arrived in camp. Looking for
Temira. I saw him as he left and
the wind blew the scarf from his
face.

                       MICAH
      (shaking head)
Do you really realize what you are
saying, because I don't think you
do...

                       TZEFAN
Yes and I am not afraid. The
important thing is to find her,
and warn her of this rotten thing
her own brother has done, if it is
not too late.

                       MICAH
It may well be too late now. Her
brothers do have authority over
her and the right to arrange her
future.

                       TZEFAN
      (with clenched jaw)
Not behind her back.

                       MICAH
Emotions are arbitrary. Jehdeiah
is well in a position to obtain
her.

Tzefan turns to Micah with a fiery gaze.

                       TZEFAN
      (fiercely)
And I not more so?

54.

                       MICAH
More so indeed, if you are...the
legendary Gem of Paran, but to
meddle in the affairs of the King
of Israel, I have to draw the line
there Tzefan.

                       TZEFAN
Fine. I will handle it alone.

Tzefan walks away, missing the smile that plays across the
lips of the wise shepherd.

INT. THE KING'S PALACE - DAY

WINDS OF CHANGE M.O. BY DALE HUNTER

Solomon arrives at the palace after another tumultuous day
spent with Temira. Bathsheba and Jonathon meet him in the
great room and he finds that his worst fear has come to
pass. His father is dead. Solomon is crushed.

                       JONATHON
      (angrily)
While you have been traipsing
around the countryside with that
common girl, your father has been
wasting away, waiting for you to
assume your responsibilities and
having your servants do your work
for you! What have you to say for
yourself!

                       SOLOMON
      (painfully)
Surely there is an end to your
tormenting Jonathon. My father
was never wasting away, he was
full of life, and you will not
make this an unholy thing!

                       BATHSHEBA
      (harshly)
Jonathon! This will get nowhere!
We are all devastated, but my
son's personal life has nothing to
do with it! Please be excused.

55.

                       JONATHON
      (bowing with a
       hard look at
       Solomon)
As you wish.

Jonathon leaves the room.

RETURN M.O. BY SONGS OF JACOB

EXT. JERUSALEM - DAY

                       TZEFAN (VO)
      (narration)

Now David, the son of Jesse had reigned over all Israel, and
the period which he reigned was forty years. Then he died
in a ripe old age, full of days, riches and honor; and his
son Solomon reigned in his place. With the Kings death,
Israel has gone into mourning and Solomon is officially
crowned again in a private ceremony.

INT. JONATHONS QUARTERS - NIGHT

                       JONATHON
      (irately)
His liaisons with the Shulamite
girl have gone on long enough. He
is spending more and more time
away from the palace, and
Bathsheba is concerned. Her worry
is starting to take a toll on her.
You must do something quickly.

                       MIKLOTH
Master we have tried. There is
barely a time when we can find her
alone.

                       JONATHON
      (sarcastically)
What do you mean.

                       MIKLOTH
If Solomon is not with her, she is
with that young herdsman, or her
mother.

                       JONATHON
That is ridiculous. Do something
or I shall take care of it myself
and I can promise I won't be as
            (MORE)

                       JONATHON (cont'd)
merciful as you. Do something
with that boy too if you must but,
see that you finish it.

EXT. CITY STREETS JERUSALEM - NIGHT

Slipping through the semi darkness of evening shadows,
Tzefan makes his way along the narrow streets of Jerusalem
finally coming to his destination. Jehdeiah's inner city
apartment. Stopping at the corner of a building across the
street he is elated to see that someone is there. He has
decided to confront Jehdeiah with what he overheard but
before he can act, three men step out onto the rooftop from
an inner door. Tzefan's heart drops, but spying a rickety
ladder attached to the wall and leading straight up to the
roof, he dashes across the street and climbs nimbly high
enough to hear their conversation. He hears the voice of
Raveed, and Jehdeiah and the voice of another man he doesn't
recognise. Jehdeiah addresses him as Mikloth.

EXT. JEHDEIAH'S ROOF TOP - NIGHT

                       JEHDEIAH
      (sugary sweet)
Calm down Mikloth. There is no
reason to have any one killed.
Have sympathy for Raveed, if
anything, and all his troubles.
Besides, Raveed and I have come to
an agreement, so to speak, one
that I like very well, if you will
hear me out.

                       MIKLOTH
And what agreement would that be,
Jehdeiah, as if I couldn't figure
it out knowing you.

                       RAVEED
      (hastily)
A wife, you idiot! You commanders
are all alike, wasting time with
words. Let's just get to it! Do
you have the money Jehdeiah?

                       JEHDEIAH
      (giving Raveed a
       killing stare)
Raveed, Raveed. . . these things
are delicate. You musn't insult
the King's Officers.

57.

                       JEHDEIAH (cont'd)
      (looking at
       Mikloth)
Please, forgive Raveeds
impatience. Full of energy, these
young pups. You can understand.

EXT. TZEFAN ON LADDER - NIGHT

The three of them begin talking at once in hushed whispers
that Tzefan is straining to hear. Trying to get closer he
steps on the next rung of the ladder but it snaps loudly in
the silence of the night. Losing his grip Tzefan falls all
the way to the ground snapping every rung as he goes down.
He lands on his feet and falls to his back on the street,
hearing shouts from above as he is discovered. He jumps to
his feet and runs off into the night. Jehdeiah and Raveed
run to the edge of the roof but are too late to see who was
running away.

EXT. EDGE OF ROOF TOP - NIGHT

                       RAVEED
      (fearfully)
Someone was listening!

                       JEHDEIAH
      (smugly)
Indeed, young pup. And I have a
good idea that it was a desert
rat.

                       RAVEED
Let's go after him!

                       JEHDEIAH
He can do nothing, Raveed. Don't
worry yourself. Now let us return
to the business at hand.

EXT. TEMIRA'S VINEYARD - NIGHT

As darkness settles over the land Solomon and Temira sit
talking in the vineyard beneath a cloth canopy.

                       SOLOMON
You have been quiet today my dove.

                       TEMIRA
Yes.

58.

                       SOLOMON
Tell me what is upsetting you.

                       TEMIRA
Tzefan has told me a thing that
has me troubled.

                       SOLOMON
Your friend who keeps the donkeys?

                       TEMIRA
Yes. He told me that Raveed is
going to receive a dowery for me.

Solomon stands to his feet bringing Temira with him.

                       SOLOMON
      (disbelieving)
Is this true?

                       TEMIRA
I just don't know. I want to
believe him. To, trust his word,
but it seems so impossible.

                       SOLOMON
It is surely possible but perhaps
your Tzefan is just jealous for
you. Has Raveed said anything to
you about it?

                       TEMIRA
Nothing.

                       SOLOMON
      (sighs with relief)
Then it must be a tale designed to
get your attention. That is all.

                       TEMIRA
Poor Tzefan. I could never
imagine he would resort to such
foolery.

Solomon says nothing for a time. Temira searches his face
for an answer.

                       TEMIRA
      (probing)
If I could understand what drives
men to do such things...

Solomon coughs with Temira's statement.

59.

                       SOLOMON
If only we could understand what
drives any man, my dove. Come,
let us forget about it.

EXT. APPLE TREE - NIGHT

They stroll into the apple orchard and sit beneath a tree as
they do every night. This night, however, they both succumb
to a restless sleep, and Solomon begins to dream.

EXT. PALACE COURTS DREAM - NIGHT

LION OF JUDAH M.O. BY DALE HUNTER.

With cloudy darkness surrounding him, Solomon finds himself
in the courtyard of the Praetorian looking up at the
columned stage of the high throne of the King. The seat is
empty. His heart begins to race as he HEARS A VOICE, a
Voice like Thunder coming from the turbulent skies above the
throne. Solomon drops to his knees and touches his forehead
to the ground.

                       VOICE OF GOD
'" As for you, my son Solomon,
know the God of your father, and
serve Him with a whole heart and a
willing mind; for the Lord
searches all hearts , and
understands every intent of the
thoughts. If you seek Him, He
will let you find Him; but if you
forsake Him, He will reject you
forever. Consider now, for the
Lord has chosen you to build a
house for the sanctuary; be
courageous and act."'

The final words echo through his soul.

EXT. APPLE TREE - NIGHT

Solomon jerks awake gasping for breath, perspiring, and
after a moment, silently arises. He looks down upon Temira
slumbering sweetly and with a deep sigh of regret, turns and
walks off into the night.

60.

INT. SOLOMONS QUARTERS - NIGHT

                       SOLOMON
      (booming shout)
JOAB!

                       JOAB
      (nervously)
Yes lord Solomon!

                       SOLOMON
Joab, send a runner immediately
with a message. To Paran. To
Ahmed of Paran, King of his
people. He must be told I have
found his son, and I am requesting
his presence here in Jerusalem as
soon as he can arrive.

                       JOAB
Right away lord Solomon!

EXT. TEMIRA'S ORCHARD - NIGHT

                       TZEFAN
      (urgently)
Temira! Temira wake up!
      (shaking Temira)
Te-mir-a! Wake up!

Temira is aroused from a deep sleep to find Tzefan and not
her shepherd staring down at her. She sits up in alarm,
disheveled from falling asleep under the apple tree and
looks around fearfully.

                       TEMIRA
What! What is it Tzefan! Has
something happened?!

She grabs his arm.

                       TZEFAN
      (whispering
       heatedly)
Yes! We have to get you out of
here Temira, your life is in
danger.

She looks at him apprehensively.

61.

                       TEMIRA
Tzefan, your carrying this too
far...

                       TZEFAN
      (pleading)
No, Temira you have to believe me,
there's not much time.

From the damp foggy shadows of night a man materializes from
the swirling mist. His familiar voice chills Tzefan to the
bone.

                       JEHDEIAH
Time for what, Tzefan?

Both Temira and Tzefan turn to find Jehdeiah looming over
them. Tzefan pulls Temira to her feet and confronts him.

                       TZEFAN
This is all your doings! Tell her
the truth Jehdeiah!

                       JEHDEIAH
The truth about what, Tzefan? That
you have a very vivid imagination?

                       TZEFAN
No, you liar! That you have
purchased her from Raveed! Tell
her!

                       JEHDEIAH
I will tell her no such thing, as
no such thing has happened. Come
on Tzefan, it is time to stop the
game playing. If you leave
quietly I won't take action
against you for slandering my good
name.

                       TZEFAN
      (gritting teeth)
YOUR good name?! You are a
slithering snake Jehdeiah, and we
all, know his name.
      (Tzefan grinds out
       through grit
       teeth)

Temira covers her mouth with her hand as Tzefan leaps for
Jehdeiah's throat. He struggles to bring him down. Jehdeiah
slams Tzefan to the ground.

62.

Temira SCREAMS at the violent attack.

                       JEHDEIAH
      (gasping angrily)
Don't you know I have the power to
have you put to death!

From the surrounding shadows three men materialize and join
Jehdeiah. Temira swallows back another frightened scream,
but then realizes they are the night watchmen. She runs to
them, grateful for the protection.

                       TEMIRA
Thank goodness you are here! We
were just sitting here...

                       JEHDEIAH
      (quickly
       interrupting)
This man came out of the darkness
and attacked my wife and myself.
      (POINTS at Tzefan)

Temira stares at Jehdeiah in utter horror.

                       TEMIRA
Wife?! I am not his wife! No! He
is lying! It's not how it looks!

Temira tries to run but one of the night watchmen grab her.
She struggles against him tearing her cloak as the other two
pick Tzefan up from the ground. Jehdeiah takes Temira,
covering her mouth.

                       JEHDEIAH
Calm down my love, these
gentlemen will take care of
everything now. You've been
frightened is all, just calm down.

The night watchmen drag Tzefan away and Temira begins to
fight Jehdeiah. He strengthens his hold on her.

                       JEHDEIAH
Calm down or I shall be forced to
discipline you. Now, be a good
girl and I will let you go. Cross
me, and your brothers will pay
dearly for the mistake, Temira.

She goes limp in his grasp and he releases her. She backs
away from him in disgust, standing legs akimbo, arms crossed
over her chest defiantly. She is ready for flight.

63.

                       JEHDEIAH
Now we can make this easy, or it
can be difficult. Either way, you
will be given seven days to
prepare to become my bride. The
choice is yours. You can do it in
honor or in shame. It matters
little to me.

                       TEMIRA
      (with disgust)
I will never be your bride.

                       JEHDEIAH
Oh but you will. If you want to
see your precious Tzefan live one
more day.

She decides to run but he grabs her arm and jerks her back.

                       JEHDEIAH
I mean it.

Temira wrenches herself free with a hateful scream and runs
into the night.

EXT. STREETS OF JERUSALEM - NIGHT

Slipping silently throughout the narrow streets of the city,
Temira goes straight to the palace, where she finally finds
Tzefan imprisoned in a deep cistern. On her hands and
knees, she peers through a small barred opening at the
bottom of the wall and sees him sitting forlornly on the
damp floor. Mice scutter at his feet.

INT. CISTERN - NIGHT

Tzefan hears his name echo quietly off the stone walls of
the pit the night watchmen have thrown him into.

                       TZEFAN
      (astonished)
Temira? Is that you?

                       TEMIRA
Yes!

                       TZEFAN
How did you excape from Jehdeiah?!

64.

                       TEMIRA
He let me go!

                       TZEFAN
What are you doing here! You'll
get us both killed!

                       TEMIRA
Saving you! And apologizing for
not believing you sooner!

                       TZEFAN
Forget about it! Save yourself! I
left a donkey tied right outside
town. Perhaps you can reach the
sheep camp by morning. You need to
tell Micah, he'll know what to do.
      (hesitates)
And Temira?

                       TEMIRA
Yes Tzefan?

                       TZEFAN
Thanks.

                       TEMIRA
Thanks for what?

                       TZEFAN
For being a friend. For, believing
in me...

                       TEMIRA
      (snorts)
Save your thanks for later...when
I get you out of this mess. Do you
have your lute?

                       TZEFAN
My lute? Whatever for?

                       TEMIRA
Quickly! Toss it up to me and
don't ask questions.

She slips her arm down through the bars as far as she can.
Tzefan tosses the thin instrument into the air.

S.M. CLOSE UP OF LUTE REACHING HER HAND.

She catches it on the first try. Her shadow passes over the
opening and he knows she is gone.

65.

EXT. CISTERN - DAY

Tzefan is jarred from an uncomfortable sleep by the ground
shaking rumble of thunder. The sound grows closer with each
passing moment, then suddenly stops. Tzefan looks up at the
small barred window hoping to see what is happening when he
hears a frantic hushed whisper.

                       TEMIRA
Tzefan! Get up!

                       TZEFAN
      (quickly coming
       fully awake)
What are you doing now?! I told
you to get Micah!

                       TEMIRA
I know what you said but we aren't
leaving without you!

                       TZEFAN
We? Who's we?

                       TEMIRA
All of us.

Just as the first shafts of dim light break through the
barred opening Tzefan is shocked to see Temira's face, and
all around her, the faces of his herd. He shakes his head in
utter amazement.

                       TEMIRA
Get ready Tzefan...we're breaking
you out of there!!

Within seconds Temira has several ropes tied to the barred
window whic are attached to several donkeys. In moments
Tzefan starts to hear the sound of rock cracking. A
tremendous smile spreads across his face. In three heaves
the bars come crashing out of the window. Temira throws down
a rope that is already tied to Tzefan's donkey. With a sharp
knife filched from Micah she cuts the ropes away from the
other donkeys, they rear up and scramble out of the way.
Hearing a shout from down the city street, she urges Tzefan
to hurry shoving the blade into a scabbard sashed to her
waist.

                       TEMIRA
Hurry Tzefan! The guards are
coming!

66.

Still smiling broadly, with the rope around his waist Tzefan
is lifted right out of the hole. He clambers to his feet.
Night watchmen have discovered the plot and are running up
the street toward them, but the roadway is too narrow and
crowded with donkeys. They cannot get through. Gathering up
the length of rope, Tzefan throws himself onto his ride and
drags Temira up with him and they take off with the whole
herd following in their wake. The guards give up and let
them go.

EXT. SHEEPCAMP - DAY

Arriving in the sheep camp, Micah, Ami-el, Kestor and
Temira's mother,CHASYA rush to meet them. Temira slides
from the donkey and falls into her arms. Everyone gathers
around to listen, leaving Tzefan outside the circle.

                       TEMIRA
Mother! Oh, how did you know to
come?!

                       CHASYA
      (laughingly)
Besides his explanation of the
strange disappearance of several
hundred donkeys, Micah sent for
me, but I couldn't leave until
young Anata had her baby. I would
have gone straight to the Palace
had I known!

                       TEMIRA
What else has he told you?

                       MICAH
I told her everything my pet. A
little arguing is one thing but
this was going too far.

                       TEMIRA
      (narrowed eyes)
And my brothers?

                       CHASYA
      (soothing)
Raveed is being detained. Japhet
and Nuri swear they know nothing,
but there shall be no more of
their dealings where you are
concerned. I thought I could
trust Raveed. None of them have
taken care of you as they should.
Which would have meant coming to

about you, Temira?

The shepherdess' snicker from the sidelines. Tzefan gives
them a hard look. Am-iel and Kestor grab his arms in a mock
attempt to hold him at bay.

                       CHASYA
      (raised brow)
Come and let us retire from this
heat. We will talk inside.

INT. WOMEN'S TENT - DAY

Temira, Chasya and even Micah go into the tent. Tzefan is
seen slipping away but Ami-el grabs his arm again.

                       AMI-EL
Oh no ya don't...

                       TZEFAN
      (pulling away)
Let...me...go...that's the women's
tent.

                       AMI-EL
      (gritting teeth)
Your worse than a woman...get...
in...there!

He shoves Tzefan through the flap and he almost falls into
the tent, recovering his balance. He stays right in the
opening, grabbing his head covering from his tousled hair.
Tzefan stands there wringing the scarf with nervous hands.

                       MICAH
      (waving him in
       impatiently)
Come, come, young master. You are
fully involved.

                       TZEFAN
I was only trying to help, tell,
her Micah.

Without your help there is no
telling what would have become of
my daughter. Come forth and sit
down. It takes much bravery to do
what you did Tzefan and I hope you
know that your insistence to do
what is right has saved alot of
pain, perhaps death, to this
family. You are no ordinary
shepherd and I have it on good
authority that you are much
more...
      (giving him a
       knowing stare)

With every encouraging word Temira's mother speaks, Tzefan
begins to feel a new strength in his heart and purpose wells
up within his soul. They all recline upon the blankets and
pillows lining the tent walls. Tzefan, looking all around
is obviously impressed but he is also reminded of home. His
eyes meet Micah's and he realizeds the elder shepherd has
been watching him.

                       MICAH
      (clearing his
       throat loudly)
Don't be getting too comfortable
master. It's a womans tent.

Tzefan raises both brows in feigned innocence, forgetting
his memories if only for the moment.

Chasya examines her daughters face, looking for a long time
into her eyes.

                       CHASYA
Are you in love Temira, with this
young herdsman?

Temira and Tzefan lock eyes. Temira's expression, sad.
Finally, she shakes her head.

                       TEMIRA
      (eyes downcast)
I am sorry. Another has stolen my
heart.

                       TZEFAN
      (with conviction)
What about him indeed? He has a
betrothed.

They all look at Tzefan, but Micah is surprised he has
spoken up for himself. He is smiling.

                       TEMIRA
      (with sudden
       relief)
You do? I mean, um, how can that
be, I have never seen anyone...?

                       CHASYA
      (nodding approval
       of his
       truthfulness)
Indeed you do master, and she
awaits you at the palace. Soon
you will be reunited with her.

Temira looks between them all, her relief turning to slight
confusion, that everyone seems to know more than her about
her friend.

                       TZEFAN
      (unsure but
       hopeful)
And. . . my father? Is he also,
at the palace?

                       CHASYA
He is.

                       TEMIRA
      (becoming
       impatient)
Would somebody explain anything to
me? Micah? Mother? How do you
know all this?

Chasya and Tzefan look at Micah and say his name in pretend
questioning unison. Now it is he whose eyes grow large with
feigned innocence. He shrugs, smiling sheepishly.

                       CHASYA
      (laughing)
Tzefan, do you mind if Micah tells
Temira the story? There is a
party waiting to escort you to the
palace.

                       TZEFAN
      (hesitatingly)
No-o-o ...There is?

                       CHASYA
      (smiling)
This very moment.
      (said happily)

                       MICAH
      (rubbing his hands
       together in
       delight with a
       smile)
I would be honored, but just one
thing before he goes. When Temira
was just a baby, there was a
story, about a legendary gem,
perhaps you remember?
      (looking to Temira
       hopefully)

                       TEMIRA
      (her eyes sparkle
       with the memory)
The Gem of Paran! Yes, of course I
remember the tale, but, what has
that to do with anything?
      (her voice fading
       she looks back
       and forth between
       everyone)

                       MICAH
Just in case you happen to be
wondering... why Tzefan is being
treated like royalty, Temira...
      (sweeping his arm
       toward Tzefan)
meet, the Gem.

                       MICAH
Go master! Your family is
waiting!

Tzefan jumps up and starts to go but turns back. He and
Temira lock eyes and she stands, not sure how to react. He
steps toward her and taking her hand, kisses her palm. A
tear rolls down her cheek.

                       TZEFAN
I am bitterly sorry Temira, I feel
badly for not telling you. I
really wanted to. We shall see
one another again, just don't
forget what I told you last night,
when you rescued me.

                       KESTOR
      (interrupting)
Young master, they are waiting!

                       TEMIRA
      (she accepts the
       fate of his words)
Go Tzefan! I won't forget! Oh,
and here! Don't forget this. It
really does work.
      (her voice sad)

She smiles to hide her pain as she holds out the thin wooden
lute. Taking it in his hand, their eyes meet one last time
before he sweeps out the tent flap. A gust of wind blows
in with his exit and ruffles Temira's hair around her face,
the moment bittersweet.

INT. CISTERN - DAY

Sitting at the bottom of a cistern and looking pitiful,
Raveed howls like a baby. Presently the large stone door is
slowly removed.

72.

                       RAVEED
      (jumping up with
       glee)
I am being released! Oh finally,
      (sighs with relief)
I knew they would come to their
senses!

Raveed dances a little step in hopeful anticipation, but
instead of the rope ladder he was expecting, he hears loud
scuffling and amid strong threats another is dropped into
the hole. It is Jehdeiah.

With a loud thud the stone is rolled back over the opening,
and they are enclosed in semi-darkness.

                       RAVEED
      (rolling eyes)
What are YOU doing here?

                       JEHDEIAH
Oh shut up.

                       RAVEED
I won't shut up. This is all your
fault, you know.

                       JEHDEIAH
      (sarcastically)
Oh yes...blame it on me. You
idiot, I should have dealt with
your brothers, they have more
brains than you.

                       RAVEED
      (sanctimoniously)
Oh really... they'll probably give
Asef your job, since you are no
longer available.

                       JEHDEIAH
      (pitifully)
Oh God, why me... Somebody! Oh,
Somebody, please...GET ME OUT OF
HERE!

His words ECHO through the quiet city streets.

INT. KING DAVID'S PALACE - DAY

Tzefan arrives at the palace and is escorted straight to
King Solomon's quarters. Solomon enters the room, dismisses

73.

his servants and walks up to Tzefan. They are nearly eye
level with one another though Tzefan is younger than
Solomon, both of them discern an, unspoken if somewhat
reluctant, respect for each other.

                       SOLOMON
Do you know why you are here?

Tzefan takes a deep breath.

                       TZEFAN
I know some of the reason.

                       SOLOMON
Very well, follow me.

EXT. SOLOMON'S TERRACE - DAY

They walk through a narrow door at the back of the room and
along a short hall out onto a terrace balcony. Solomon
points to a small fountained courtyard below. Tzefan looks
down, and seeing his family, he clutches the iron railing,
fighting back the urge to yell.

                       SOLOMON
How long have you been apart from
them.

                       TZEFAN
      (with a deep soul
       groan,whispers)
I don't know, oh, too long. But
what is this all about and how
have they come to be here, in
Jerusalem?

                       SOLOMON
It is about many things, "Prince,"
Tzefan-Yah. You are a Prince, are
you not?

Tzefan hangs his head down.

                       TZEFAN
I am.

As much so as you are a King.

That morning I made him a promise
that I almost didn't keep when I

thought I knew how you felt.

                       TZEFAN
      (trying to explain
       his feelings)
It is hard when everyone has your
life planned out for you, and you
never get to see who you, really
are.

Solomon breathes a hard sigh, fully understanding young
Tzefan's heart. His face shows that he feels a bond with
the struggling prince.

                       SOLOMON
      (painfully)
I have found that some of us, are
not ever meant to know, that. The
time for running is over. You
have to return home.

                       TZEFAN
Perhaps...but,
      (boldly
       confronting)
What about Temira? Do you plan to
tell her the truth?

                       SOLOMON
      (eyes narrowed,
       voice hard hiding
       emotion)
What do you know about Temira and
I?

                       TZEFAN
      (lifting his chin)
Only that, she loves you.

                       SOLOMON
      (tilts head back
       challenging)
How do you know it was I?

75.

                       TZEFAN
Because I also, recognized you.

                       SOLOMON
      (defensive)
But I kept my face covered.

                       TZEFAN
Not one day. One day, the wind
blew the scarf from your face. It
was then that I saw who you were.

                       SOLOMON
And did you. . .

                       TZEFAN
      (interrupting)
Tell Temira?
      (purposely waits a
       long time)
No. I also kept your secret. But
now, YOU must tell her.

                       SOLOMON
I'm afraid she would be hurt worse
by the truth.

                       TZEFAN
      (unbelieving

So you plan to just let Jehdeiah
have her?

                       SOLOMON
Jehdeiah? What are you talking
about?

                       TZEFAN
I am talking about the money
Jehdeiah gave Raveed for Temira.
To have her. . .
      (hesitatingly)
As his bride.

                       SOLOMON
Are you telling me that is true?

                       TZEFAN
Are you telling me you didn't
believe it?

76.

                       SOLOMON
I thought it was just a tale. I
thought you were just jealous for
Temira.

                       TZEFAN
      (shaking his head)
You have met Sameh and still
believed that? You must be
joking. Sameh and I have been
betrothed since we were infants.
We were not given a choice, but,
Sameh IS everything to me.
Eventually I would have gone for
her, when I could support her.

                       SOLOMON
      (daring Tzefan)
What makes you so sure she would
have waited for you?

                       TZEFAN
      (urgently)
The very same thing that makes me
know, Temira will have no other.
      (urgently)
You must act quickly.

INT. SOLOMONS QUARTERS - DAY

Reentering the room, the atmosphere changes to one of
extreme urgency. Solomon claps his hands loudly.

                       SOLOMON
SERVANT!

ZIV, a brown skinned man runs in and bows.

                       ZIV
Master?
      (bowing)

                       SOLOMON
Escort Prince Tzefan-Yah down to
his family, and stay with him as
his personal attendant.

                       ZIV
As you wish.
      (bowing)
One more thing, master.

77.

                       SOLOMON
Make it fast.

                       ZIV
      (bowing)
Yes master, thank you. Jonathon,
is requesting an audience with you
immediately.

                       SOLOMON
No such luck for him. My time is
limited at the moment. Tell him I
will arrange a meeting...
tomorrow...IF I have time.
      (raises brow)
And Ziv...

                       ZIV
      (bowing)
Yes master.

                       SOLOMON
      (half smile)
You can kill the bowing just any
time now.

Ziv stops in mid bow looking sheepish.

                       ZIV
Forgive me master. Shall we be
dismissed?

                       SOLOMON
By all means.
      (turning to Tzefan)
Prince Tzefan-Yah, you and your
family will be our guests, until
further notice.

                       TZEFAN
As you wish my lord.

       roguish grin)

Ziv discreetly looks away with a hidden smile. Solomon
stares.

                       SOLOMON
Right.

INT. PALACE HALLWAY - DAY

Tzefan follows Ziv throughout the palace and nearing the
courtyard he slows down as he hears the booming voice of his
father SINGING A SONG. It is a song Ahmed taught them all
to sing when Tzefan was a little boy and Tzefan motions for
Ziv to be dismissed while he listens for a moment. Ziv
hurries off to bring the King's message to Jonathon.

EXT. OPEN AIR COURTYARD - DAY

                       AHMED
      (singing O.S.)
THE MORE YOU FIGHT TO TO BE NO
ONE,
THE MORE SOMEONE YOU BECOME!

Ahmed, Lilah, Azhara and Sameh have been in the courtyard
waiting for Tzefan. They are all filled with nervous
tension, not knowing how Tzefan will react to the situation,
so as a distraction, Ahmed has started singing an old song
they have sang together for years with each having their own
verse. As Tzefans's part comes up they start to skip over
it but instead they hear a baritone voice from somewhere
inside the palace. They all turn toward the direction of
the SINGING.

                       TZEFAN
      (singing loudly
       from his hiding
       place)
NEVER REALLY WANTED RICHES OR
FAME!
ONLY WANTED FREEDOM AND
TO HAVE A GOOD NAME!

                       LILAH
      (with tears
       shaking voice)
FOR RICHES AND WEALTH, WELL,
LIKE THE WINKING OF AN EYE,
THEY'RE GONE WITH YESTERDAY,
FADING WITH TIME.

As Azhara starts her verse, Tzefan walks out.

                       AZHARA
A GOOD NAME IS A TOKEN, MORE
COSTLY THAN PRECIOUS GEMS!
IT'S PROMISE WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU,
GRASPING FOR THE WIND!

79.

Lilah and Azhara run for Tzefan, Ahmed and Sameh wait back,
and their eyes caress everything about him. After his
mother and sister have embraced him they step aside and he
walks to his father and kisses him on both cheeks. Ahmed's
eyes sparkle with unshed tears. Then, further back, Sameh.
They behold each other for a long time, and finally, Tzefan
walks up to her trembling small frame. He takes her in a
strong grasp, nestling her against himself and then, as she
looks into his eyes, he kisses her.

Ahmed openly weeps.

                       AHMED
My son has come home.

                       AZHARA
      (sprightly)
And he's brought his good name
with him!

Everyone laughs and Tzefan hugs Azhara again.

EXT. HILLS OF ISRAEL - DAY

After several days Temira ceased to ask everyone if they had
seen the shepherd, and after that, she stopped searching the
horizon for his presence altogether.

Japhet and Nuri stayed close at hand but she would have
little to do with them, taking her goats to pasture by night
and sleeping most days. Micah watches her with growing
concern, speaking with her mother who had not left the sheep
camp since Tzefan had gone. The only thing neither of them
had done, was tell Temira who her shepherd really was.

                       MICAH
I thought you told me that
Bathsheba came to you. . . that
you discussed this, this
situation.

                       CHASYA
As well we did. We must wait.
Patience, Micah. There is nothing
more we can do.

                       MICAH
Do you trust her? To do all she
said?

80.

                       CHASYA
I would trust her with my life,
Micah. We grew up in the same
village, together. She was older
than me, but we worked side by
side with our mothers until
Bathsheba married.

                       MICAH
Well, she is certainly taking her
own sweet time about this. Does
she not realize what it is doing
to Temira?

                       CHASYA
Temira is strong. She will rise
above it.

                       MICAH
I don't like the way you say that
Chasya. Not at all.

                       CHASYA
Because you have babied her too
much. No other reason.

Micah throws up his hands in mock defeat.

                       MICAH
You women are all alike.

INT. BATHSHEBA'S QUARTERS - DAY

Jonathon barges into Bathsheba's room unannounced as she and
Solomon sit talking.

                       JONATHON
      (shouting)
How DARE you have Jehdeiah thrown
into the gallows! Have you lost
your mind Bathsheba!

She calmly stands up and faces him with a stubborn tilt to
her chin. Jonathon suddenly realizes she is not alone but
with Solomon. He takes a step back.

                       BATHSHEBA
I believe, that Jehdeiah is the
one who has lost his senses. Now,
if you will excuse us, my son and
I have much to do.

81.

                       JONATHON
      (somewhat whining)
But the gallows? Please
Bathsheba, explain yourself.

                       BATHSHEBA
      (resigning sigh)
Very well, Jonathon. As you well
know, Jehdeiah purchased for
himself a bride, and without
permission at that. I won't
stand for behavior that defies
protocol in this city.

                       JONATHON
You won't!? You are not in charge
here Bathsheba...

Solomon slowly stands up and steps forward.

                       SOLOMON
Of course I won't have to remind
you, that you also, have no
authority here and therefore, no
charge to dispute.

                       JONATHON
Oh but I shall dispute it. I most
certainly gave Jehdeiah permission
to ask a family for the hand of
their daughter. I absolutely
have that right to answer.

                       BATHSHEBA
      (quietly angry)
You have never had that authority.
You are a counselor to the King,
Jonathon, which means you must
bring all things before his
scrutiny.

                       JONATHON
Ah, but hasn't that been difficult
lately?

                       BATHSHEBA
      (never missing a
       beat)
As it should. This country is in
mourning, as is this family. You
should have responded as such to
Jehdeiah. He could have waited. I
shall deny his request because of
this, and other reasons, which I

time.

Jonathon and Solomon stare silently at each other.

                       JONATHON
      (quietly)
This is far from over.

Jonathon leaves the room.

Bathsheba turns to a servant standing mutely at the back of
the room.

                       BATHSHEBA
Have him followed.

He discreetly does as he is bid.

EXT. HEBRON VALLEY - DAY

PROCESSIONAL M.O. BY DALE HUNTER.

                       KESTOR
      (hollering and
       running)
Micah! There is a large army
coming up from the hills!

Micah jumps up, as do the others who hear the announcement
from Kestor. Chasya runs out from the women's tent. They
meet halfway. In moments a crowd has gathered to see the
marching troops.

From where she stands among the nut tree orchards, Temira
has seen the travelling regiment and heard the shouts.
Running, she quickly makes her way back to the main camp,
among her people, and finding her mother and Micah they all
watch as the large company of soldiers grows closer and
closer.

Suddenly, Temira hears a GASP from somewhere in the crowd.

                       KEFINA
It's not an army! It is the
King's Royal Procession! It must
be King Solomon!

83.

                       RIMONA
      (with awe)
He is wearing his father's wedding
crown!

                       NAAVA
Magnificent!

The shepherdesses swoon.

As the entire party approaches it turns and cutting into the
crowd heads straight for Temira and her mother. All the
people give way and as the palanquin stops in front of her,
she stands frozen in time seeing not the King, but her
shepherd, staring back at her. The carriers of the
travelling couch set it lightly upon the ground and he
stands up. A swordsman takes Bathsheba's hand and helps her
from her horse. They come together and her shepherd raises
his hand to the people. Temira is dumbfounded as everyone
goes to one knee before him.

                       SOLOMON
Arise my people!

Everyone stands and silence falls over the hills of Israel.
The wind carries Solomons voice to every ear.

                       SOLOMON
I have come here today for one
reason. To ask for the hand of
the one that I love, in marriage.

A gasp moves through the gathering, as everyone looks around
in question, wondering who is this special one their King is
talking about.

Solomon steps up to Temira and takes her hand. She sways a
little and Micah steadies her.

                       SOLOMON
      (loudly)
I ask... for the hand of Temira
the Shulamite! Is there one here
today who can give her in
marriage?

                       CHASYA
      (boldly)
I can.

                       SOLOMON
And you are?

84.

                       CHASYA
I am her mother.

                       SOLOMON
      (looking boldly
       over the faces of
       his people)
Is there anyone here to
disapprove?

Silence envelopes the moment as Solomon waits. No one says a
word. Finally Solomon kneels on one knee at her feet.

                       SOLOMON
      (looking up into
       her eyes now
       sparkling with
       unshed tears)
Temira the Shulamite would you
agree to be the wife of the King?
Would you be, my wife?

She looks around at all the faces surrounding her and then
at her mother. Chasya nods.

With all the bravery she can muster Temira looks back at her
shepherd, the King, and nods her head.

                       TEMIRA
Yes, I will.
      (also kneeling
       down on one knee
       to face him.)
I will my King, marry you.

The whole crowd cheers and Solomon picks Temira up and
places her in the palanquin. He helps his mother mount her
horse and he mounts his own horse and the regiment moves
forth into rank.

INT. THE KINGS PALACE - DAY

In a ceremony reflecting their love Solomon and Temira are
married before the city of Jerusalem and attended by their
closest friends and relatives. Later that evening, another
ceremony takes place, one that Temira was honored to attend.
As a gift from Solomon, Tzefan and Sameh were given an
honorary wedding in the Palace surrounded by the ones who
had become like family to Tzefan.

EXT. APPLE ORCHARD - DAY

Several weeks later Prince Tzefan and his Princess have
prepared to return to Paran so that Tzefan can receive his
throne. The city has gathered to send them off with all the
royal pageantry of a kings privilege. Solomon and Temira
are seated high above the city in the apple orchard where
their love first began to blossom watching the scene below
with admiration and melancholy.

                       TEMIRA
I hate to see Tzefan and his
family leave. I have grown so fond
of Sameh.

                       SOLOMON
My dove, he is to be leader of his
people, he must return that his
people may put their faith in him.

                       TEMIRA
Is that what you had to do?

                       SOLOMON
I had to do that and much more. I
had to bring myself to face you
with the truth. I couldn't bear
to loose you. Can you forgive me
for taking the easy way out.

                       TEMIRA
      (sweetly coy)
I can my love but only if you
promise to take us to Tzefans
Coronation in the spring.

                       SOLOMON
My dove, we wouldn't miss it for
the world. We shall all go and
give our blessing to Tzefan, the
Gem of Paran.

Down below, along the street leading out of Jerusalem,
Temira is distracted as she spies an enormous shuffling
entourage touring toward the gates of the city. Temira jumps
excitedly to her feet and grabs Solomon's outstretched hand
to help him up as the caravan travels past.

                       TEMIRA
Oh look! There go Tzefan and
Sameh right now! I just can't
believe you gave Tzefan's family
all those horses, and... all the
donkeys of Jerusalem as a wedding

present. Was he surprised?

                       SOLOMON
Oh you could say he was very
surprised. Especially when he saw
the royal bestowal.

                       TEMIRA
The royal bestowal?

                       SOLOMON
      (nodding knowingly)
MmmHmm. Tzefan had to have
somebody to look after all those
mules. Who better qualified than
Jehdeiah and Raveed?

With the sun on their backs, Solomon puts his arm around
Temira and they turn, gazing lovingly at the scene below and
wave.

EXT. CITY STREET - DAY

As the Royal Entourage of Paran passes slowly through the
city of Jerusalem, Tzefan and Sameh recline on a luxurious
couch carried by six slaves. The whole city has turned out
to see them off throwing flowers and wheat branches as they
pass. Tzefan's family waves back at every one, Azhara blows
kisses. As the last donkey passes, Shabouh brings up the
rear driving a chariot, and cracks a long whip.

                       SHABOUH
      (loudly)
He-ah! Git along boys! This is
your formal training on how to be
a proper slave!
      (cracks whip)
Now get along!! He-aw!

                       JEHDEIAH
Yeeeooowwwlll! Yes master
Shabouh!

                       RAVEED
      (screeching)
Yeeoowwll! Yes master! Oh help!
Someone please!!

The whip CRACKS again. Jehdeiah and Raveed jump as high as
they can to excape the sting of the new position Tzefan has
granted Shabouh. Personal Trainer to the King's servants.

87.

                       SHABOUH
      (smiling, happy,
       loud)
Yes siree! That's what happens
when your a loyal servant boys!
You get PRO-mo-tions! Yahooo!
      (cracks whip)

You have quite an imagination! To improve this script even more, please take out all the music suggestions (they'll figure this out) as well as all the parentheticals (if Jonathan this irate, use an exclamation mark after the sentence). The actors will know/figure out how to say the lines. Great job!
