HALF OF EVERYTHING

FADE IN:

EXT. I5 PORTLAND OREGON - TEWILLIGER CURVES - DAY

COLTON SAPHELY drives a Ford mustang convertible, with the
top down, headed north bound toward Portland.

Colton is in his early fifties. He has blond hair and is
above average in height. He's rugged, but handsome. He's
both lonely and a romantic.

Colton passes a huge billboard on the side of the freeway.
On the billboard it has a picture of him wearing a suit.

INSERT BILLBOARD, WHICH READS :

                       BILLBOARD
Divorce or Prenup?
Colton Saphley
Attorney at Law

Colton sees himself in his car's rear-view mirror.

                       COLTON
      (to himself)
Am I really that damn good
looking.

Colton merges onto the Ross Island bridge and drives over
the Willamette river. The skyline of Portland shines in the
background. Colton exits the freeway and drives up to a gas
station.

GAS STATION

The Gas station is an average station with a convenience
store connected to it. BILLY, a young man, walks up to the
car. He is dressed in a gas station attendant's uniform.

                       BILLY
What can I get you today, Mr.
Saphely?

                       COLTON
      (getting out of
       his car)
Just fill it.

                       BILLY
Yes sir.

2.

Colton stands beside his car.

A DIVORCED MAN drives his sports car up to the gas station.
He's in his forties and looks and acts very stuck up. The
divorced man gets out of his car and walks up to a Hispanic
gas attendant.

                       DIVORCED MAN
      (angry)
Are you blind or just stupid? I
want my gas the second I get here.

Colton walks up to the divorced man.

                       COLTON
Is there a problem here?

The divorced man looks at Colton.

                       DIVORCED MAN
Why don't you mind your own damn
bussiness.

The divorced man studies Colton.

                       DIVORCED MAN (CONT'D)
Waite a minute, you're Colton.
Colton Saphley. You helped me get
six million from my ex.

                       COLTON
      (irritated)
Yeah, I remember you.

Divorced Man points at Hispanic Gas attendant.

                       DIVORCED MAN
Well this stupid shit, doesn't
even know how to pump gas.

                       DIVORCED MAN (CONT'D)
      (to attendant)
Why don't you go back to where you
came from.

                       COLTON
You know. Now that I think about
it. I really didn't like you then
and, well I don't care too much
for you now.

Colton punches the divorced man in the face. The man falls
onto the hood of his car.

3.

                       COLTON
      (grabbing his
       collar)
Now listen. If I ever hear you
bothered these guys again. I'm
gonna find you and beat the shit
out of you. You'll look so damn
bad, you'll want your ex wife
back.

Colton throws the divorced man into the man's car.

RAUL, the gas station owner, walks out of the convenience
store toward Colton.

Divorce Man speeds away with a scared look on his face.

                       RAUL
Thanks Colton. We don't need
unsavory characters around here.

                       COLTON
Raul, good to see you.

Billy walks up to Colton and Raul.

                       BILLY
      (to Colton)
That will be thirty seven ninety
eight.

Colton takes his wallet out.

                       RAUL
No, no. Mr. Saphley, save your
money. It's on the house.

                       COLTON
Well thanks Raul, but you don't
have to do that.

                       RAUL
You saved me a hundred thousand in
my divorce trial. I should do
something to express my gratitude.

                       COLTON
      (handing Raul the
       money)
Here, but thanks anyways.

4.

                       RAUL
Anytime, that's money that would
have to go to my ex's and her live
in boyfriend, if it wasn't for
you.

Colton gets in his car and starts it up.

                       COLTON
Remember send me some referrals.

                       RAUL
You got it. True freedom is
priceless.

He then drives away.

EXT. DOWNTOWN PORTLAND, OR - DAY

Colton is leaning on the hood of his convertible, parked in
font of a department store near Pioneer square.

JESSICA walks out of the store. She is blond and is in her
mid forties. She is Colton's friend with benefits and is
also his secretary. She has big boobs and looks much younger
than she really is.

                       JESSICA
      (smiling)
Well, I'm surprised to see you
here.

                       COLTON
Happy though, right?

                       JESSICA
      (leaning toward
       Colton)
Very happy.

Jessica kisses Colton on the lips.

                       JESSICA
How'd you know I was here?

The two get into the car.

                       COLTON
Well, it's Saturday at noon and I
gave you a big bonus yesterday. I
knew a department store wasn't out
of reach.

5.

                       JESSICA
      (winking)
I hope you'll give me another
bonus tonight.

                       COLTON
      (starting the car)
Oh I will, but this time it won't
be monetary.

The two kiss and then put their seat belts on.

                       JESSICA
      (laughing)
I don't know which one I like
better.

                       COLTON
Well you should.

Colton kisses Jessica on the lips.

                       JESSICA
Now I do.

Colton drives away from the street into the flow of traffic.

                       JESSICA (CONT'D)
So where are we going?

                       COLTON
I thought a picnic at Timberline
would be nice.

                       JESSICA
Oh how romantic!

As the car fades away, ANNA and KYDER walk up to the
department store entrance.

Anna has brown hair and an attractive presence. She's in her
thirties and lonely inside of her marriage.

Kyder is around thirty years old and very beautiful. She has
blond hair and a perfect figure. She's a bit of a slut.

                       ANNA
I can't believe Wade. He wants me
to host some party for his uppity
little friends he's trying to
impress.

6.

                       KYDER
What does he do for a living
anyway?

Kyder opens the door to the department store.

                       ANNA
He bought a fruit basket company.
He's also big in the stock market.
Why do you ask?

The two walk into the store.

                       KYDER
Well he's just never home, so I
was wondering if he might have
ever cheated on you.

                       ANNA
I wouldn't be surprised, but he's
too big of an ego maniac for any
woman to want him.

                       KYDER
Just you uh?

                       ANNA
      (irritated)
Yeah, well he wasn't always like
this. What's going on in your
world lately?

                       KYDER
The typical single woman in her
thirties. Dinner downtown and
breakfeast at his house.

                       ANNA
Oh, I miss that life.

                       KYDER
Don't miss it too much, sometimes
I wake up alone.

                       ANNA
Sadly in my marriage, that's a
usual occurrence.

EXT. SKI LIFT ON MT HOOD - DAY

The ski lift is open in the summer for sight seeing only.
There is a great view of Timberline lodge and Mt Hood in the

7.

background. Colton and Jessica walk up to the ski lift and
sit down on a ski bench. The lift moves forward with their
feet dangling below.

                       JESSICA
This is turning out to be a
wonderful afternoon.

                       COLTON
Well I took you up here for a
reason.

                       JESSICA
To make me Happy? Because it's
definetly working.

Jessica kisses Colton on the lips.

                       COLTON
Well, I've been thinking and I'm
sick of our situation. What I mean
is, I want to move forward and
take the next step in our
relationship.

                       JESSICA
      (shocked)
Are you asking me to be your
official girlfriend?

                       COLTON
Sorta. What I'm trying to say is
that we should think about making
the step possibly toward marriage
someday.

                       JESSICA
Excuse me, but I thought we only
had a physical relationship.

                       COLTON
We do. I'm just suggesting that we
slow down and be more permanent.

                       JESSICA
      (chuckling)
You've got the wrong woman. I
don't just settle down.

8.

                       COLTON
Look, we're not getting any
younger and someday if we continue
the way we have been, we're gonna
be very lonely people.

                       JESSICA
Lonely or miserable, I'd rather be
lonely.

                       COLTON
We've been seeing each other for
five years. I want someone I can
really focus on. So what'd you
say?

                       JESSICA
I think it would be best if you
just took me home when this
contraption stops.

                       COLTON
Just forget I ever said anything.

With disapointment,Colton looks at the peak of Mt Hood and
the cascade mountains surrounding it.

                       JESSICA
      (laughing)
Settle down and get married.

INT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - NIGHT

The Penthouse is very modern. The windows overlook the
Portland skyline and Willamette river. There are around
twenty people, all holding cocktails making small talk.

WADE GRANT, is surrounded by a small group, who are all
laughing. Wade is in his late thirties. He's very snooty and
clean cut. Attractive, but arrogant.

Wade walks over to Anna who is sitting on a couch, looking
very board.

                       WADE
Honey, come meet everyone.

Wade takes Anna by the hand and leads her to a group of
three men. MR ROWE, MR NESBITT and MR SPITZENGEL, who all
have drinks in their hands. Each one is in their early
sixties. They all look and act very snooty.

9.

                       WADE
Men, this is my wife Anna.

Anna shakes hands with each man.

                       WADE (CONT'D)
      (pointing at each
       man)
This is Mr SPITZENGEL from Wells
Fargo. This is Mr Rowe from US
Bank, and this is Mr NESBITT from
Nesbitt Petroleum.

                       ANNA
It was nice to meet you all. Honey
I'm going to bed, I don't feel so
good.

                       WADE
I hope you feel better. Good night
dear.

Wade kisses her on the forehead.

                       ANNA
      (to the men)
Have a good evening.

Anna walks away.

                       MR ROWE
You definitely know how to pick
em.

                       WADE
She picked me.

The group of men laugh.

LATER - MASTER BEDROOM

Anna is lying on the bed in her night gown as Wade is takes
off his tie.

                       WADE
      (annoyed)
I noticed you weren't enjoying
yourself earlier.

                       ANNA
I just didn't feel very good. Oh
yeah, by the way, I'm going
shopping tomorrow with Kyder. So
I'm probably gonna need some
            (MORE)

10.

                       ANNA (cont'd)
money.

                       WADE
Too sick to make your husband look
good, but not too sick to shop.

                       ANNA
      (smiling)
Well you can never be too sick to
go shoping.

                       WADE
How much money do you need?

                       ANNA
Around five hundered or so.

                       WADE
You can put a thousand on the
card. I want my wife looking
expensive at our next party.

                       ANNA
      (taken back)
What was that supposed to mean?

                       WADE
      (getting into bed)
Honey, tonight your dress looked,
well, cheap.

                       ANNA
What would make you think that?

                       WADE
Some of the other women were
talking.

                       ANNA
What jerks! And you didn't find it
necessary to defend me.

                       WADE
I need you to buy something
expensive. Mr Rowe's wife, buys
something called Shantell.

                       ANNA
Chanel not Shantell, but that's
expensive. Are you sure you want
me to spend that much?

11.

                       WADE
I sure in the hell do. Look,
tonight Mr. Nesbitt from Nesbitt
petroleum was here. It doesn't get
much bigger than that.

                       ANNA
Who cares about Mr. Nesbitt!

                       WADE
He's just the richest man in
Oregon. We need to look and act as
rich as he is. So, just go buy an
expensive dress.

                       ANNA
Whatever.

                       WADE
      (leaning toward
       Anna)
Now give me a kiss.

Anna gives Wade a kiss.

                       ANNA
I would hope that you would love
me no matter what dress I was
wearing.

                       WADE
The more expensive, the more I
love you. But don't get me wrong.
I love you a little, no matter
what.

                       ANNA
So you would love me a lot more if
I was wearing something expensive.

                       WADE
      (smart alec)
That isn't what I just said or
anything. Now come on, I have to
get some sleep.

INT. MALL - DAY

Anna is standing in line holding a dress. The CASHIER takes
the dress and scans it. The cashier looks like a negative
person. She's in her sixties and has a bad attitude.

12.

                       CASHIER
Your total is eight hundred and
fifty dollars.

Anna hands her a credit card and the cashier slides it
through the machine.

                       CASHIER
      (annoyed)
Didn't go through.

                       ANNA
      (shocked)
What?

                       CASHIER
Ma'am it didnt go through.

                       ANNA
      (snooty)
That's impossible. Try it again.

Kyder walks up to Anna.

                       KYDER
What's going on here?

                       ANNA
My card won't go through.

                       CASHIER
Lady, if you cant afford this
dress just walk away. Don't worry,
you won't look more stupid than
you already do.

                       ANNA
But I can afford this dress.
You're just not doing your job
right. Run the card through again.

                       CASHIER
Lady, I know the kind of people
who buy these clothes, and
frankly, you're not that kind of
person.

                       ANNA
This is bullshit. I'm leaving, but
I'll be back and you'll loose your
job.

13.

                       CASHIER
      (sarcastically)
Oh, I'm so scared.

                       ANNA
You should be.

                       KYDER
Come on, there's no need to waste
our time arguing with this old
hag.

                       CASHIER
      (putting her fist
       up)
I can take any one of you bimbo's.

                       ANNA
      (walking away)
Maybe forty years ago.

                       CASHIER
Right now. I'll jump over this
counter.

The Cashier tries to lift her leg over the counter.

Anna turns around.

                       KYDER
      (leading Anna
       away.)
Come on Anna.

Anna walks to the entry of the store. She then takes her
phone out of her pocket. As she dials numbers on her phone,
Colton walks up to her.

                       COLTON
      (lightly smiling)
Excuse me miss, but, well I don't
do this very often, but what do
you say I help you out and buy
that dress for you.

Anna hangs up her phone and sticks it in her purse.

                       ANNA
      (showing her ring)
Thank you, but I'm married.

                       COLTON
Oh, but that doesn't matter.

14.

                       ANNA
Excuse me?

                       COLTON
It doesn't matter rather you're
married or not. I was gonna give
it to you one way or the other.

Anna lightly slaps Colton.

                       ANNA
How rude could you possibly be?

                       COLTON
      (rubbing his face)
Ouch! What the hell was that for?

                       ANNA
Because you're a sick pervet.

                       COLTON
Wait a second, did you think I
wanted to sleep with you or
something?

                       ANNA
Of course. Why else would I slap
you?

                       COLTON
That's funny.

Colton laughs.

                       ANNA
What's so funny?

                       COLTON
Oh nothing.

                       ANNA
      (stern)
No, really. What's so funny?

                       COLTON
You just wouldn't be my first
choice.

Anna slaps Colton across the face again.

                       COLTON
      (rubbing his face)
Ouch! Would you stop doing that.

15.

                       ANNA
I think you should buy me the
dress now.

                       COLTON
Well, now I dont want to.

                       ANNA
Buy me the dress.

                       COLTON
No way lady. I'm not here to take
orders from you.

Kyder walks up to Colton.

                       KYDER
You better buy her the damn dress.

                       COLTON
I dont think I should.

                       KYDER
Why not?

                       COLTON
She slapped me.

                       KYDER
So.

                       ANNA
Buy me the dress dammit.

                       COLTON
Okay, okay just calm down. For the
record, I really don't want to.

                       ANNA
That really doesn't matter, now
does it?

                       COLTON
No, but at least I can list you as
a donation on my tax return or
something.

INT. OUTSIDE STORE IN MALL - DAY

Kyder and Anna are standing outside the store, when Colton
walks out holding the dress.

16.

                       COLTON
      (refering to Anna)
The cashier is a little like
someone I just met.

                       ANNA
Thanks. Now can I have something?

                       COLTON
Here's the damn dress.

Colton hands Anna the dress. Colton stands still.

                       ANNA
You can leave now.

Colton pulls out a card from his suit coat.

                       COLTON
Here's my number. Call if you ever
get a divorce.

Colton walks away.

                       ANNA
      (rolling her eyes)
What a stupid pick up line.

Anna looks at the card.

                       ANNA
Thanks for lifting my spirits.

                       KYDER
What should we do now?

                       ANNA
I have to go home and get some
cash.

17.

                       KYDER
Well, call me if you decide to do
something later.

                       ANNA
Yeah, I will.

Kyder walks away.

Anna stares at the card while shaking her head. She puts the
card in her pocket and walks away.

EXT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - DAY

Anna walks through the front door of the penthouse.

MASTER BEDROOM

Wade is in his boxers lying next to CARRIE. Carrie is very
tall and has dark hair. She is in her early twenties and is
very beautiful.

                       ANNA (V.O)
Honey, are you home?

                       WADE
Ah shit!

Wade stands up and slips his pants on.

                       CARRIE
What's the matter?

                       WADE
Hide in the bathroom.

                       CARRIE
What?

                       WADE
Just go in the bathroom.

As wade puts his shirt on, Carrie runs into the bathroom.
Anna walks in as Wade buttons up his shirt.

                       WADE
Hi honey, what a great suprise.

                       ANNA
      (very suspicious)
What's going on?

18.

                       WADE
Oh nothing, I just came home for
lunch. That's all.

                       ANNA
      (looking around)
I thought you had a doctors
appointment today.

                       WADE
Yeah, well it was canceled.

                       ANNA
That's weird. I wonder why.

                       WADE
      (nervous)
I, I dont know why, but it was.

                       ANNA
Um, well I have to go to the
bathroom.

In an effort to stop her from entering the bathroom, Wade
runs in front of the bathroom door.

                       WADE
      (loudly)
No. I mean, I made lunch, so let's
eat first.

                       ANNA
Honey, I have to go pee.

                       WADE
The food will get cold though.

                       ANNA
Come on, your lunch can wait two
minutes.

                       WADE
Fine, but I love you.

                       ANNA
      (suspicious)
Okay, why'd you say that?

                       WADE
      (rolling his eyes)
I don't know, but you'll find out
in a few seconds.

19.

Wade walks away from the bathroom door and pops his neck in
frustration.

                       WADE
      (quietly to
       himself)
Oh please help me.

Anna walks into the bathroom and stands in front of the
mirror. While looking in the mirror she rubs her teeth with
her thumb. She glances to the corner of the mirror and sees
Sydney, who is crouched down. Her naked body is wrapped in a
shower curtain.

                       ANNA
Who the hell are you?

                       CARRIE
      (nervous)
His new secretary.

Anna storms out of the bathroom full of anger. She walks up
to Wade, who looks very depressed as if he knows exactly
what's coming.

                       ANNA
What do you have to say for your
self? You son of a bitch.

Anna slaps Wade across the face.

                       WADE
She's a lingerie model and I was
checking out her products.

                       ANNA
      (angrier)
Your company sells fruit baskets.
Since when the hell did fruit,
have to do with underwear? You son
of a bitch.

                       WADE
      (smirking)
Have you ever heard of fruit of
the loom.

                       ANNA
How can you make a joke at a time
like this. You stupid son of a
bitch.

20.

                       WADE
Would you stop calling me that?

                       ANNA
Yeah, the second you stop acting
like one.

                       ANNA (CONT'D)
      (to Carrie)
You're one hell of a secretary you
whore.

                       WADE
      (quietly)
Carrie, please don't respond to
that.

                       CARRIE
      (to Anna)
I'm just giving him what you
can't.

Wade has a frustrated look on his face as Anna slaps Carrie
across the face.

                       WADE
Anna, say your sorry.

                       ANNA
I'm done. I'm done with all of
this.

Anna walks out of the bedroom toward the front door as Wade
follows.

                       WADE
But Anna, I love you.

Anna sighs, turns around and punches Wade in the nose. She
then walks out the door.

                       WADE
      (holding his nose)
That bitch!

                       CARRIE
Do you mind if I stay?

Wade pauses in pain.

                       WADE
Sure, what the hell.

21.

Wade kisses Carrie as he slips her shower curtain off.

INT. PARKING GARAGE - DAY

Anna is sitting in her car crying, while the radio plays
"How Deep is your love". She cries for nearly a minute,
sheltering herself in the music.

Suddenly Anna takes Colton's card out of her pocket and
studies it.

INT. FRONT LOBBY OF COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Anna walks up to the front desk in the middle of the lobby.
Jessica is sitting behind the desk.

                       ANNA
I'm looking for Colton Saphely.

                       JESSICA
Do you have an appointment?

Snodgrass walks in. He has red hair and is casually dressed.
He looks and acts very nerdy.

                       ANNA
No, but.

                       SNODGRASS
      (to Jessica)
She dosent need an appointment.

                       ANNA
      (to Snodgrass)
Excuse me, but who are you?

                       SNODGRASS
Just follow me.

Anna follows Snodgrass down a hallway.

22.

                       ANNA
So, who are you?

                       SNODGRASS
I'm Snodgrass.

                       ANNA
Where are you taking me?

                       SNODGRASS
His office of course.

                       ANNA
      (curious)
How do you know who I'am?

                       SNODGRASS
We've been expecting you.

                       ANNA
      (surprised)
You have?

                       SNODGRASS
Of course, but nobody thought
you'd be here this soon.

INSIDE COLTON'S OFFICE

Snodgrass opens the door to Colton's large office. The
office is very spacious and light. There's a desk and a
large cabinet with expensive alcohol in it. Snodgrass walks
over to the cabinet and opens it.

                       SNODGRASS
You want a drink?

                       ANNA
Sure.

Snodgrass takes a bottle and two glasses out of the cabinet.
He empties the bottle into the two glasses.

                       ANNA (CONT'D)
So, how did you know it was me?

                       SNODGRASS
      (handing Anna a
       glass)
It was simple. Colton said that
the woman he was expecting was
very beautiful. After his
explanation, I knew it had to be
            (MORE)

23.

                       SNODGRASS (cont'd)
you.

Anna smiles.

                       ANNA
Well thank you Snodgrass.

                       SNODGRASS
Don't thank me, I'm just saying
the obvious.

                       ANNA
Well thank you anyways though.

                       SNODGRASS
Colton should be back in a few
minutes.

                       ANNA
Snodgrass, do you think that
Colton is interested in me on more
than just a attorney client
relationship?

                       SNODGRASS
Since when did an attorney brag
about how beautiful his client is.

                       ANNA
Good point, but I'm not his client
yet.

                       SNODGRASS
You also haven't slept with him,
yet.

                       ANNA
That's forward. Besides, what
makes you think I or he had
anything close to that in mind.

                       SNODGRASS
You'll end up sleeping together,
sooner or later I don't know.

                       ANNA
I don't even know him that well.
Don't you think we're moving our
assumptions pretty fast.

24.

                       SNODGRASS
After one day you're already here.
At this rate you'll be married and
have a kid within a year.

                       ANNA
      (chuckiling)
You're getting ahead of yourself.

Snodgrass opens the office door.

                       SNODGRASS
Maybe, but we'll see.

Snodgrass walks out the door and shuts it behind him.

Anna walks over to the desk and looks at the pictures
resting upon it. She sees a picture of Colton and Jessica at
a ski resort. She also sees a picture of Colton and Jessica
ridding horses on the beach.

Her face displays disappointment and confusion.

Colton walks into the office.

                       COLTON
      (excited)
It's you.

                       ANNA
Yeah, it's me.

                       COLTON
Who are you?

                       ANNA
I'm the lady that you met at the
store earlier. You know, the one
that was so rude.

                       COLTON
Well I didn't notice that you were
rude, but what I meant was what's
your name?

                       ANNA
Anna.

The two shake hands.

                       COLTON
I've always loved that name.

25.

Colton walks behind his desk and sits down. Anna then sits
down so that she is facing him.

                       ANNA
      (skeptical)
Oh really?

                       COLTON
Yes really, matter in fact I was
gonna name my daughter that, if I
ever had one.

                       ANNA
There you go flirting with me
again.

                       COLTON
You call that flirting. Well hell,
I could do a much better job than
that.

Anna smiles.

                       COLTON (CONT'D)
See, I knew it was possible. I see
that lovely smile you've been
hiding.

                       ANNA
Maybe you haven't been paying
attention.

                       COLTON
Trust me, if you smiled I would
have noticed.

                       ANNA
Tell me about Snodgrass.

                       COLTON
What's there to tell?

                       ANNA
He acts weird toward me.

                       COLTON
He's very intrigued by you.

                       ANNA
      (shocked)
Why?

26.

                       COLTON
      (smiling)
Oh I don't know, maybe it's your
lavish hair or your gorgeous
smile. Or it could be the fact
that us men aren't always blessed
with a beautiful woman like you
around. So, when you do come
around we tend to notice.

                       ANNA
You're being serious, aren't you?

                       COLTON
I'm just being honest. I don't
usually do that since I'm an
attorney.

                       ANNA
So now tell me about Jessica.
Isn't she your wife or something?

                       COLTON
No, she's just what you would call
a friend with benefits, I guess.
We take what we want from each
other and leave the emotions out
of it.

Anna has a very depressed look on her face.

                       COLTON (CONT'D)
You look like every woman that
comes in here. You don't know if
you're doing the right thing. Then
you'll ask a few questions and
realize nope, you're not doing the
right thing. But most woman that
come in here, are doing the right
thing. So, what are you in here
for?

Anna starts to cry. In response, Colton jumps up and walks
over to her.

                       COLTON
No, don't, I'm sorry. Maybe you
didn't understand me.

                       ANNA
It's not you, it's just that I've
had a bad day.

27.

                       COLTON
      (sincerely)
Well how can I help you?

                       ANNA
Refill my drink and be my attorney
at the divorce trial.

                       COLTON
Oh my gosh, I had no idea.

Colton walks to the cabinet and pours Anna a drink.

                       ANNA
Well what should I do first?

Colton hands her a drink and sits down.

                       COLTON
Take a moment to think. Then when
you're ready, tell me why you want
a divorce.

                       ANNA
I walked in on him and his
secretary.

                       COLTON
      (sincere)
Gosh, that's not good. Is there
anything I can do?

                       ANNA
Yeah. You can help me end his
pride.

                       COLTON
Is he rich?

                       ANNA
      (wiping tears)
Yes, pretty rich.

                       COLTON
How rich? An exact figure would be
nice.

                       ANNA
Around one million.

                       COLTON
I can get you around nine hundred
thousand.

28.

                       ANNA
But that only leaves him a ten
percent.

                       COLTON
I'm the best attorney in town.

                       ANNA
But that's impossible.

                       COLTON
      (confident)
Like I said. I'm the best attorney
in town.

Colton stands up.

                       COLTON
Now here's what I want you to do.
Go somewhere and right down all
the dirt on him you can think of.
Then meet me at the Stone Cliff
resturaunt at around eight
tonight.

                       ANNA
Okay, I guess so.

Anna puts her hand out and shakes Colton's.

                       ANNA
      (opening door)
I will see you later.

                       COLTON
      (closing door.)
I'm looking forward to it.

Anna turns around. Her face is full of sadness and weary.

                       ANNA
Thank you, for everything.

                       COLTON
      (putting hand on
       her shoulder)
It's gonna be okay. I promise.
I'll make sure you get more than
half of everything.

                       ANNA
I wish you could get me half of my
emotions back too.

29.

                       COLTON
Only the good ones.

                       ANNA
And just how are you gonna do
that?

                       COLTON
I'll use my personal touch.

                       ANNA
You really are the best attorney
in town.

                       COLTON
The billboards don't lie.

Anna smiles at Colton and then walks away. Colton watches
her until she disappears. He then closes the door.

INT. STONE CLIFF RESTAURANT - NIGHT

Colton is sitting at a table waiting for Anna. The
restaurant is very elegant and expensive. Miles Davis's "It
never entered my mind" plays romantically in the background.
There are big windows with a great view of a river.

A waiter walks up to Colton, who looks worried.

                       WAITER
Are you ready yet?

                       COLTON
Five more minutes.

As Colton looks at his watch, Anna walks up to the table.
Colton stands up and takes her jacket off for her.

                       COLTON
I started to think you weren't
coming.

                       ANNA
I wasn't going to.

Colton pulls out a chair across the table for Anna.

                       COLTON
What changed your mind?

Anna sits down. Colton walks to the other side of the table
and sits down, across from Anna.

30.

                       ANNA
The idea that I could be with a
man for the rest of my life, that
didn't appreciate or love me. A
man that would cheat on me and not
even think that it was wrong for a
minute.

                       COLTON
He definitely doesn't deserve you,
that's for sure.

                       ANNA
You don't even know me.

                       COLTON
I know enough. I know you're
beautiful and strong enough to
demand a perfect stranger to buy a
dress for you.

Anna lightly laughs.

                       ANNA
Yes, I can persuade people.

                       COLTON
Well I haven't spent anytime with
you and you've already persuaded
me to represent you.

Anna smiles.

                       COLTON
You're smiling. That's a great
sign.

                       ANNA
That's one thing I could do more
of.

                       COLTON
What, smile?

                       ANNA
Smile or just a simple laugh.
Either one would be sufficient
every once in a while.

                       COLTON
The only way you can be happy is
to surround yourself with people
that appreciate you.

31.

                       ANNA
You mean like you.

                       COLTON
Well I appreciate you, but you
should only be with the person you
want to be with.

                       ANNA
Wade is definetly not that person.

                       COLTON
Than who is?

                       ANNA
Someone successful, romantic.
Someone who cares about me and
wants to be with me for the rest
of my life.

                       COLTON
Sounds like you're looking for the
perfect man.

                       ANNA
I am. It will be a very long
search, but I'm up for the task.

                       COLTON
At least you'll save him some
time.

                       ANNA
What do you mean?

                       COLTON
I mean if he wants to find the
perfect woman and you want to find
the perfect man. Once you find
him, he won't have to keep
searching.

                       ANNA
      (smiling)
Thank you for trying to cheer me
up.

                       COLTON
To a lot of people's surprise, we
attorneys can be honest sometimes.

32.

EXT. SIDE WALK BY COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - PORTLAND, OR - NIGHT

It's a very clear evening. There are a line of street lights
shining upon old buildings. Colton and Anna are walking on
the sidewalk toward Colton's apartment.

                       ANNA
Why do men cheat?

                       COLTON
It depends, we're all pigs, that's
for sure. I mean seriously, a
woman wants true love. All we care
about is sex.

                       ANNA
So is that all you care about?

                       COLTON
No, I like it of course. But who
the hell doesn't? I tell you what
I care about. Making sure you
survive this fiasco, both
financially and emoitionaly .

                       ANNA
So you care about me.

                       COLTON
I guess you could put it that way.

                       ANNA
Why can't every man be as
understanding as you?

                       COLTON
I'm not perfect, I'm just trying
to help you out.

                       ANNA
Why? You don't have to.

                       COLTON
Sometimes people do things because
they want to.

Colton stops in front of an older townhouse. Anna moves her
lips toward Colton's, but he backs away.

                       COLTON
Look, I like you Anna. There's no
sense in hiding it, but you're
still married.

33.

                       ANNA
An eye for an eye, right?

                       COLTON
I don't wanna be with you to get
revenge on Wade. I wanna be with
you if that's what you want.

                       ANNA
But, what if that is what I want?

Colton seems as if he is about to kiss Anna, as the two get
lost in each each others eyes.

                       COLTON
Well this is my place.

                       ANNA
Aren't you gonna invite me in?

                       COLTON
Well now that you suggested it, I
guess it would be rude not to.

Colton and Anna walk up the steps and into the townhouse.

INT. COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

The home is very old, but nicely renovated. Colton is
standing in the kitchen with two wine glasses. Anna is
looking at pictures on the wall.

                       ANNA
      (looking at a
       picture from his
       childhood)
So, is this you?

Colton walks over to Anna and hands her a wine glass.

                       COLTON
Yeah, that's me.

                       ANNA
You were much cuter then.

                       COLTON
Well we all can't be perfect.

Anna sees a picture of Jessica and Colton around a Christmas
tree.

34.

                       ANNA
      (pointing at
       picture)
Just a sex toy, uh.

                       COLTON
That's all, and a lousy one at
that.

Anna chuckles.

                       COLTON
There it is again, that delightful
smile.

                       ANNA
You're just trying to make me feel
better.

                       COLTON
Is it working?

                       ANNA
      (leaning toward
       Colton)
Perfectly.

                       COLTON
I would love to kiss you. However,
I'm afraid your kind of still
legally married.

                       ANNA
That's not the reason.

                       COLTON
Than what is the reason?

                       ANNA
The reason is you aren't attracted
to me.

                       COLTON
      (gently rubbing
       her cheek with
       his finger)
There are two words to describe
you Anna.

                       ANNA
And what two words would that be?

35.

                       COLTON
Magnificently Gorgeous.

                       ANNA
      (doubtfull)
Oh stop it.

                       COLTON
I want you. And I think you need
me.

                       ANNA
I do.

The song "I'll be your baby tonight" plays in the
background. Anna looks down as Colton lifts her chin with
his finger. He then kisses her on the lips. She grasps his
neck with her hands. He pulls her close and they began to
passionatly kiss.

LATER

Colton and Anna are in the bedroom lying in the bed. Colton
is lying on top of Anna wearing nothing but his boxers. Anna
is still wearing a bra. Colton gently kisses her on the lips
and then gently caresses her forehead.

                       COLTON
      (whispering)
You're so beautiful.

                       ANNA
You don't know how much that means
to me.

Colton kisses her again. Anna then rolls Colton over so that
she is on top. She then slowly unhooks her bra, causing it
to fall onto Colton's stomach. She then leans down and
kisses him. Colton lets his hand feel her back and then move
to her shoulder.

LATER - MORNING

Colton is lying in bed when he suddenly wakes up. After
realizing Anna is gone, he runs to the window and looks at
the street below. Anna is standing on the street corner,
waving down a taxi.

                       COLTON
      (trying to open
       window)
Anna, Anna.

36.

                       COLTON (CONT'D)
Shit!

Colton grabs a robe and some slippers. He then runs down the
stairs to the street.

                       COLTON
      (screaming at taxi)
Anna, Anna.

The taxi drives away, as Anna looks through the back window
of the cab at Colton.

                       COLTON (CONT'D)
      (to himself)
Dammit!

INT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - DAY

Anna walks through the front door as Wade walks toward her.
Sydney hides in the master bedroom.

                       WADE
Anna, we need to talk.

                       ANNA
      (reluctant)
Okay, fine.

                       WADE
      (holding Anna's
       hand)
I love you. I fell in love with
you twelve years ago. I asked you
to marry me because I loved you.

                       ANNA
      (annoyed)
What's your point?

                       WADE
My point is that I've given you a
wonderful life here. I've given
you a very luxurious life. You
have clothes and cars that no
other man could give you.

                       ANNA
      (more annoyed)
Are you saying that it was okay
for you to cheat on me, because I
have expensive clothes?

37.

                       WADE
No, I'm saying two things. My
whole adult life I've given you
everything. The other thing I'm
saying, is that more people have
had an affair than you think.

                       ANNA
Just because other people have
cheated on their wives, doesn't
mean you can.

                       WADE
I'm not saying that. I'm saying
that you have everything you could
ever want and I don't think it
would be wise of you, to get upset
over one little affair.

                       ANNA
One little affair? I can't believe
I'm hearing this.

                       WADE
Yes, one little affair that you're
making a big deal out of for
nothing.

                       ANNA
You ass whole!

Anna slaps Wade across the face.

                       WADE
      (rubbing his face)
Dammit! What the hell did do you
do that for?

                       ANNA
      (angry)
If you think I'm just gonna
forgive you, because you give me
money every once in a while,
you're insane.

                       WADE
I have given you everything.

                       ANNA
Eeverything but love.

                       WADE
Don't start that with me.

38.

                       ANNA
True, you gave me material things.
But you never gave me anything
else.

                       WADE
      (screaming.)
I want you out of here you bitch.

Anna opens the door.

                       ANNA
      (crying)
No problem!

Anna slams the door.

                       WADE
      (to himself)
Just another ungrateful bitch.

Carrie walks up to Wade.

                       WADE (CONT'D)
      (to Carrie)
Looks like we can resume what we
were doing.

                       CARRIE
Good, that's what you deserve.

Carrie kisses Wade.

INT. COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Anna walks through the front door of the office, with a
depressed look on her face. Colton is sitting at his desk
looking at a bunch of paperwork.

                       COLTON
      (looking at papers)
I didn't expect you to come around
here for a while.

                       ANNA
Well there was sort of an
incident.

                       COLTON
      (looking up)
What kind of an inccident?

39.

                       ANNA
      (starting to cry)
Wade kicked me out.

Colton walks over to Anna and hugs her.

                       ANNA (CONT'D)
I just don't know what I'm gonna
do.

                       COLTON
Why don't we go somewhere for a
little while. How does that sound?

                       ANNA
It sounds like exactly what I
need.

Colton kisses Anna on the lips.

FRONT LOBBY OF COLTON'S OFFICE

Colton rushes out of his office, with Anna following close
behind.

                       COLTON
      (yelling)
Snodgrass, cancel all my
appointments for the rest of the
day.

                       SNODGRASS
Why?

                       COLTON
I'll be spending time with this
beautiful woman.

Colton and Anna walk out the door.

INT. CHINESE RESTAURANT - DAY

Colton is sitting across from Anna. They are both waiting
for their food.

                       COLTON
Why did you ever marry him?

                       ANNA
At one point in time he was
charming.

40.

                       COLTON
What happened?

                       ANNA
His bank account got as big as his
ego.

                       COLTON
I know lots of people who get rich
and stay married.

                       ANNA
I find that hard to believe.

                       COLTON
Bill and Melinda Gates for
example. Their rich and perfectly
happy.

                       ANNA
Wade isn't like Bill Gates at all.
He would never give to chairty.

                       COLTON
If Wade changed so much, what
happened to you?

                       ANNA
I just went with the flow. I
waited for him to get out of his
stage of arrogance, but it never
left him.

                       COLTON
You know what I think?

                       ANNA
What do you think?

                       COLTON
I think you should have done with
him what my marriage counselor
told me to do.

                       ANNA
What's that?

                       COLTON
Rekindle your romance.

                       ANNA
You had a marriage counselor. I
thought you were never married.

41.

                       COLTON
I was, but she was different.

                       ANNA
Different how?

                       COLTON
She never really wanted to listen
or talk for that matter. I tried
to follow the counselers advice,
but she just told me if we never
loved each other before, why would
we now?

                       ANNA
I tried to rekindle me and Wade's
romance three years ago.

                       COLTON
What'd you do?

                       ANNA
We went to Hawaii.

                       COLTON
That's a great idea.

                       ANNA
I wish he would of thought so.

                       COLTON
Here's an idea. Me and you go to
Hawaii right now. Just pretend we
don't have lives back here. What
do you say to that?

                       ANNA
We can't just leave.

                       COLTON
Sure we can.

                       ANNA
Look, last night was great. But I
have to deal with my emotional
state before I do something crazy.

                       COLTON
This has nothing to do with last
night. I want you to be happy and
happiness is always found in
Hawaii.

42.

                       ANNA
Your crazy!

                       COLTON
Come on. What would stop you?

                       ANNA
If we do this, do you promise
there will be no strings attached.

                       COLTON
None, not even tied.

                       ANNA
We won't sleep together.

                       COLTON
We can stay in different hotels if
you'd like.

                       ANNA
I can't pay for this. Wade has
control of the money.

                       COLTON
Don't worry, I'll take care of it.

                       ANNA
But, it'll cost a lot of money.

                       COLTON
Don't worry, I just sold my Nike
stock. I made a fortune.

                       ANNA
Paradise sounds nice right now.
That's for sure.

                       COLTON
What do you say? Wanna be
spontaneous?

                       ANNA
Especially if it's with you.

INT. PLANE - DAY

Colton and Anna are both sitting next to each other.

                       COLTON
      (on cell phone)
Snodgrass, cancel all my
appointments for tomorrow and
            (MORE)

43.

                       COLTON (cont'd)
Monday too.

Colton hangs up his phone.

                       ANNA
So, do you do this very often?

                       COLTON
Escape work with a beautiful
woman?

                       ANNA
      (smiling)
No, run out of your office and
cancel all your appointments.

                       COLTON
No, so I guess this is a start.

                       ANNA
Well, I'd say it's a good start.

Colton kisses Anna on the lips.

                       COLTON
A great start.

INT. FRONT OF AIRPORT - DAY

Colton is loading their luggage in a cab. Anna is looking at
a brochure.

                       ANNA
What are we gonna do while we're
her?

                       COLTON
Don't worry, I have plans.

                       ANNA
So what am I supposed to do?

Colton opens the cab door as Anna gets in.

                       COLTON
Just enjoy yourself. You're in
paradise.

44.

EXT. HAWAII - DAY

Colton is leading Anna through a forested path. Anna's eyes
are closed as she follows Colton. Colton has his hands over
Anna's eyes.

                       ANNA
Can I look yet?

                       COLTON
Not yet.

Colton and Anna stop.

                       COLTON (CONT'D)
Okay, now.

Anna opens her eye's.

                       ANNA
      (looking around)
Wow, where are we?

Colton moves a branch of a palm tree, revealing a luau. A
group of people watch three men dancing around fire, while a
pig roasts above it.

                       COLTON
Look's like paradise to me.

                       ANNA
      (in awe)
This is amazing.

                       COLTON
Well, let's go down there.

LATER

Colton and Anna are sitting at a table with two big plates
full of Hawaiian food in front of them.

                       ANNA
Have you ever been to Hawaii?

                       COLTON
I went to school here for three
years. My grandparents had a
condo, so I've been here a lot.

45.

                       ANNA
I didn't even know where you went
to college and I agreed to let you
take me to paradise.

                       COLTON
This place is overrated, so I
wouldn't call it paradise.

                       ANNA
If it's so overrated, why did you
go to school here?

                       COLTON
I don't know, I was young. I had
some damn good times here though.

                       ANNA
What did you do when you weren't
in school?

                       COLTON
Got drunk and waited for a
tsunami.

                       ANNA
No, really. What did you do?

                       COLTON
I surfed once or twice.

                       ANNA
Would you teach me?

                       COLTON
Yeah, but I'm rusty so don't
expect much.

                       ANNA
Well it's you, so I don't expect
much at all.

                       COLTON
Now that was harsh.

                       ANNA
What can I do to make it up to
you?

                       COLTON
You could dance with me.

46.

                       ANNA
That sounds easy enough.

Anna and Colton move to the dance floor and begin to dance
beautifully to the song "Blue Hawaii".

                       ANNA
You know, If Wade ever held me
like you do. I probably wouldn't
be here.

                       COLTON
What do you mean?

                       ANNA
If I were happy with Wade, I'd be
in his arms right now.

                       COLTON
I'm sorry for you it didn't turn
out that way.

                       ANNA
I'm not sorry. It was worth the
pain to be with you.

                       COLTON
You really think so?

                       ANNA
I know so. You told me at the
restaurant. Everything happens to
help us progress. If I wouldn't
have wanted a divorce form Wade,
then we wouldn't be here.

                       COLTON
I don't know what it is about you,
but you could make any place
paradise.

                       ANNA
      (gripping Colton)
Oh, If this could never end.

                       COLTON
I know how you feel.

EXT. BEACH - NIGHT

Anna and Colton are walking on the beach.

47.

                       ANNA
It's amazing how the ocean is so
loud, but yet so calm.

                       COLTON
It can be a wild beast. It can
also be a great refuge.

                       ANNA
How much time did you used to
spend here on the beach?

                       COLTON
Quite a bit.

                       ANNA
So it was a refuge for you?

                       COLTON
Yeah, I loved it here. Sometimes
it just got a little dangerous.

                       ANNA
When you lived here did you ever
know someone that drowned?

                       COLTON
Yeah I knew of someone. What do
you say I find a seashell for you.

                       ANNA
Sure! I've never had one directly
from the ocean.

Colton walks out to the ocean until he is knee deep in
water. As he feels around the bottom of the ocean, Anna
walks up to him and tries to push him over. He scoops her up
in his arms and kisses her.

The two play in the water...

INT. HOTEL ROOM - DAY

Colton and Anna walk into the hotel room. They are both
dripping wet.

                       COLTON
I'll get you a towel.

                       ANNA
      (listening to
       seashell)
I never knew that Hawaii could be
            (MORE)

48.

                       ANNA (cont'd)
cold.

                       COLTON
Yeah, at least it's not as cold as
the Oregon coast.

                       ANNA
      (wrapping towel
       around her)
Nothing is as cold as the Oregon
coast.

                       COLTON
You wanna take a shower first.

                       ANNA
Yeah, I'll be fast.

LATER

Anna is sitting in a chair wearing a robe. Colton walks
toward her with two glasses of milk.

                       COLTON
Warm milk, my mother always gave
it to me when I was cold.

                       ANNA
I've never had it.

Anna takes a drink.

                       ANNA (cont'd)
This is awful, even worse then the
cold stuff.

                       COLTON
Some people like it. I guess you
don't have the same taste as me.

                       ANNA
I guess not.

                       COLTON
I already got the blankets from
the front desk, for the couch.

                       ANNA
I'll sleep on the couch and you
can have the bed.

49.

                       COLTON
No thanks, that would be rude of
me to make a lady sleep on the
couch.

                       ANNA
Wade's definitely not like you. He
would insist I have the couch.

                       COLTON
Even though you're married.

                       ANNA
Especially cause we're married.

                       COLTON
Well, I'm definitely not like him,
so I'll take the couch.

                       ANNA
Colton?

                       COLTON
Yes?

                       ANNA
Thank you so much. For everything.

                       COLTON
We better get some sleep. We'll
have a fun day tomorrow.

Colton turns the light off and lays down on the couch. Anna
lays down on the bed.

                       COLTON
Anna?

                       ANNA
Yeah Colton.

                       COLTON
Thanks for coming with me.

                       ANNA
No problem.

                       COLTON
The sooner I wake up the sooner I
see your beautiful face again.

50.

                       ANNA
      (to herself)
This is just a dream. Hell I
couldn't dream up something this
good.

EXT. BALCONY OF HOTEL ROOM - DAY

The balcony is quite small, but you can see the sunrise
awaking the beach. Anna is sitting on a lounge chair reading
a book. Colton walks up to her with two coffee cups.

                       COLTON
Here.

Colton hands Anna a coffee cup and sits down so that he's
facing her.

                       COLTON (CONT'D)
Am I missing something here, I
mean come on we're perfect for
each other. Your married to a
jackass and I've been single
forever.

                       ANNA
I just don't know what I'm gonna
do about anything.

                       COLTON
Look, the first day I met you
something told me to buy that
dress for you. This was planned by
something out of our controll.

                       ANNA
Maybe all of this is a
coincidence.

                       COLTON
Maybe, but it's a great
coincidence. Your husband doesn't
even care about you and I do. If I
was able to wake up every morning
with you by my side, I'd have
everything I'd ever want.

                       ANNA
I like being with you too, I just
need time. Everything is happening
so fast.

51.

                       COLTON
Anna, I love you. I didn't even
know what true love was until now.
It's something that is just
amazing. It's like nothing else.
It's extreme happiness and that's
how I feel about you.

                       ANNA
If everyday was like yesterday,
then I would have no problem
settling down with you. I just
don't know if I can make rational
decisions right now.

                       COLTON
Well, I'll tell you what. If you
make up your mind come find me.
Rather it's ten years from now or
even twenty, I'll be waiting for
you.

                       ANNA
What do you say we continue our
vacation and just have a good
time.

                       COLTON
Sounds good.

                       ANNA
And Colton.

                       COLTON
Yeah.

                       ANNA
You're the sweetest man I've ever
met.

                       COLTON
I'm just giving you what you
deserve.

INT. WAIMEA STORE - DAY

A small store sits a few blocks from the hotel. Anna walks
into the small store. It has a mixture of mementos and
groceries for sale. The CLERK, a big Hawaiian man, is
standing behind the counter. Anna walks over to a picture
and stares at it, while the clerk watches her.

52.

                       CLERK
Your looking at the two best
surfers on the island.

                       ANNA
This was taken a while ago, uh?

                       CLERK
Thirty years ago.

                       ANNA
You won't believe this, but the
guy on the left looks like who I
came with. Just thirty years older
now.

                       CLERK
Probably is. That guy hasn't been
around since that picture was
taken.

                       ANNA
Did you know him?

                       CLERK
He was like a brother to me.

                       ANNA
Why do you think he left?

                       CLERK
The guy on the right was his
surfing partner. It was also his
younger brother. One time they
went surfing at night on a dare.
His brother hit his head and died
instantly. He never forgave
himself and left the island. I
even heard he gave up surfing.

                       ANNA
I wonder what happened to him.

                       CLERK
Last I heard, he was practicing
law in Oregon or Washington
somewhere like that.

Anna posses a worried look on her face.

                       ANNA
It was nice to meet you. I'll come
back and buy something.

53.

                       CLERK
You can come back anytime you
want. I wont even make you buy
anything.

Anna smiles and blushes before walking out of the store.

EXT. BEACH IN FRONT OF HOTEL - DAY

Anna walks up to Colton, who is looking at the ocean.

                       ANNA
There was a lot you didn't tell
me.

                       COLTON
      (looking at ocean)
I assume you talked to somebody.

                       ANNA
Yes and you went through something
horrible. And I didn't even know
about it.

Colton looks at Anna.

                       COLTON
Some things I just don't tell
people.

                       ANNA
You lost your brother who was your
best friend. You shouldn't have
given up surfing.

                       COLTON
Well now that you have given me
some advice, why don't you forget
about it.

Colton starts to walk down the beach.

                       ANNA
Are you mad at me?

Anna walks beside Colton.

                       COLTON
Just don't worry about it?

Colton stares at the ground as he slowly walks.

54.

                       ANNA
I'm just saying that if your not
at peace with your brothers death,
maybe talking about it would help.

Colton stops.

                       COLTON
No, you don't know anything about
my brother. You don't even know
anything about me. You don't know
what it's like to walk down the
street on a small island and know
everybody blames you for your own
brother's death.

                       ANNA
So you did something stupid and
suggested you go night surfing.
Your brother would want you to
forget about it and move on.

                       COLTON
You didn't even know him and
besides, why do you care?

                       ANNA
I care because I care about you.
Imagining the pain of feeling
responsible for your brothers
death, is unbearable. I know you
well enough, that I know you
probably blame yourself. I also
know that it wasn't your fault.

                       COLTON
Yesterday you said you didn't know
me.

                       ANNA
I know enough to know what a great
person you are.

                       COLTON
You really do care about me?

                       ANNA
Just a little.

                       COLTON
I'm sorry, it's just a tough thing
to talk about.

55.

                       ANNA
I know.

Colton hugs Anna and kisses her on the forehead.

                       ANNA
Why didn't you tell me?

The two start walking down the beach again.

                       COLTON
I don't know Ann. It's not
something I bring up or try to
think about.

                       ANNA
Well, I think you should teach me
how to surf.

                       COLTON
I would love too.

LATER

Both Colton and Anna are walking toward the waves carrying
surf boards. They are both knee deep in water.

Colton shows Anna how to surf...

Anna tries, but falls many times before having a successful
run on a wave.

EXT. OCEAN - DAY

Colton and Anna are both sitting on their surf boards
drifting around. They are in calm waters far from the beach.

                       ANNA
This is so nice. Why would you
ever want to leave it?

                       COLTON
This place can get boring after a
while.

                       ANNA
It's paradise.

                       COLTON
Until you've been to Denali
national park in Alaska, you
haven't seen paradise.

56.

                       ANNA
Sounds cold.

                       COLTON
Your cuddling by a fire with hot
chocolate in your hand, while
another two feet of snow falls on
the most magnificent trees you've
ever seen. Now that's paradise!

                       ANNA
You and Jessica went there
together once?

                       COLTON
Yeah, but it wasn't as romantic as
it should have been.

                       ANNA
So is it romantic a to be here
with me?

                       COLTON
I guess we should go back in. It's
getting dark anyways.

The two maneuver there boards toward the beach.

INT. BEDROOM IN HOTEL ROOM - DAY

Colton and Anna are standing in the room in their pajamas.
Anna walks up to Colton.

                       COLTON
I guess it's time to get some
sleep.

                       ANNA
      (looking up at
       Colton)
You know what I wanna do with you
tonight don't you.

                       COLTON
Yeah, but we shouldn't.

Colton kisses Anna on the cheek.

                       COLTON (CONT'D)
Good night.

57.

                       ANNA
      (disapointed)
Yeah, good night.

Colton walks over to the couch and lays down while Anna,
gets into the bed.

As the lights go off, Anna lies in bed. Silent tears run
down her face.

LATER

The morning sun peaks through the curtains of the room.

Colton sits in chair examining Anna as she sleeps.

                       COLTON
      (to himself)
I never planned to fall in love
with a client.

INT. PORTLAND AIRPORT TERMINAL - DAY

Colton and Anna are standing by a cab.

                       COLTON
So, are you glad you went?

                       ANNA
Definitely. It's the going home
part that I'm not glad about.

                       COLTON
If we don't, never mind.

                       ANNA
What were you gonna say?

                       COLTON
Just that, well. I don't want this
to end.

                       ANNA
What are you saying?

                       COLTON
I'm saying that, well I want to be
with you again. But for a long
time, not just a weekend.

58.

                       ANNA
Colton this was more fun then I've
ever had, but I just, well. I
don't want it to end either, but
it has too.

                       COLTON
When will I see you again.

                       ANNA
Eventually.

Anna gets in the cab. Colton watches the cab drive away. He
then turns around. Snodgrass is standing in front of him
with an arrogant look on his face.

                       COLTON
How much of that did you hear?

                       SNODGRASS
Enough to know she broke your
heart. And enough to know that she
won't be back.

                       COLTON
The first one I'll give ya. But as
for the second, she'll be back.
Very soon.

                       COLTON (CONT'D)
      (to himself)
I sure in the hell hope so anyway.

                       SNODGRASS
What'd you say?

                       COLTON
Nothing. Why do you even care
about it?

                       SNODGRASS
When someone is depressed around
the office it gets the whole
atmosphere down. I mean Jessica
already is, we don't need another
Debbie downer.

                       COLTON
      (smiling)
She is uh?

                       SNODGRASS
Yes, very.

59.

                       COLTON
      (walking away)
Well, let's go back to work.

INT. COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

TWO WEEKS LATER

Colton is sitting on his couch, looking at a picture of Anna
and him at the beach. The song "Don't we all have the right"
is playing in the background. Colton chugs a glass of wine
and stands up. He walks over to his phone, picks it up and
dials a phone number.

                       COLTON
      (on phone)
Anna, this is Colton. Please call
me back. I've been thinking about
it and your right about my
brother. Answer the phone, I
really need to see you.

LATER

Colton is sitting on his couch asleep. He drops a glass of
wine on the floor.

INT. FRONT LOBBY OF COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Kyder walks up to Jessica, who is behind the desk.

                       KYDER
Is Mr. Saphley around?

                       COLTON
      (walking out of
       his office)
I'm right here. Your that lady
that was with Anna at the store.

Colton's face lights up.

                       KYDER
Yeah, can we talk in private?

                       COLTON
      (leading the way)
Sure, just come into my office.

60.

INT. COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Colton walks over to his liquor cabinet.

                       COLTON
You want a drink?

                       KYDER
Sure.

                       COLTON
      (pouring drinks)
I haven't heard from her for a
while. I was starting to get a
little worried.

Colton hands a glass to Kyder and then sits on the edge of
his desk. Kyder sits on the couch facing him.

                       KYDER
She sent me to tell you that she
wouldn't be needing any paperwork
for her divorce. It's been
post-poned for now.

                       COLTON
Good, I hope they reconcile.

                       KYDER
Do you always lie when you hear
devastating news?

                       COLTON
Sometimes, but this isn't too
devastating. As long as Anna's
happy.

Colton stands up and paces around.

                       KYDER
Your taking it well.

                       COLTON
Hey, it's good news right.

                       KYDER
She told me to have a Kleenex near
by, when I tell you.

                       COLTON
      (laughing)
Really.

61.

                       KYDER
You guys really had something,
didn't you?

                       COLTON
No, I mean nothing beyond Attorney
Client privilege.

                       KYDER
So every attorney takes their
clients to Hawaii.

Colton stares into Kyder's eyes

                       COLTON
Your exquisitely beautiful.

                       KYDER
Are you saying that to get your
mind off Anna?

                       COLTON
Yea, but it's true.

Colton leans toward Kyder and kisses her on the lips.

                       KYDER
It's a good thing she's over you.

Colton kisses Kyder's neck.

                       COLTON
Good, I'm over her.

                       KYDER
Do you want to know something?

                       COLTON
      (unbuttoning her
       jacket)
What is it?

                       KYDER
I've wanted you since I saw you at
the store.

                       COLTON
Congratulations, looks like you
got your wish.

Colton takes Kyder's shirt off, revealing her bra. The two
fall onto the couch making out.

62.

INT. COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - DAY

Colton and Kyder are lying awake in Colton's bed.

                       KYDER
Why don't we go to Hawaii?

                       COLTON
I don't feel like ever going back
there.

                       KYDER
She said you took her breath away
every second of the trip.

                       COLTON
She said that?

                       KYDER
Yea, she wants to be with you, but
she'll never leave Wade. That's
why I feel fine being with you.

                       COLTON
Am I everything she bragged about?

                       KYDER
Your more.

Kyder leans over toward Colton and kisses him. A knock is
then heard on the front door.

                       COLTON
I'll get that.

Colton gets up and puts a robe on. He then walks to the
front door and opens it. Anna is standing in the door way.

                       COLTON
      (shocked)
Anna, I'm glad to see you.

                       ANNA
Is there a problem?

Colton looks behind his shoulder.

                       COLTON
No! I mean, why are you back?

                       ANNA
Do you want me to leave?

63.

                       COLTON
No, but I thought you were done
with me.

                       ANNA
I left, but realized I want to be
with you all the time. I'm gonna
leave Wade for real this time.

                       COLTON
That makes me so happy. I, I love
you.

Anna kisses Colton on the lips. Kyder sneezes in the
background.

                       ANNA
What the hell was that?

                       COLTON
      (covering mouth)
I must have allergies or
something.

Anna pushes the door open and walks toward Colton's bedroom.
She sees Kyder lying in the bed.

                       ANNA
      (pointing at Kyder)
You conniving bitch.

                       KYDER
      (as Anna walks out)
I thought you were through with
him.

                       COLTON
Anna, please don't.

                       ANNA
      (turning around)
I should of known, your just as
bad as Wade.

Anna opens the front door.

                       COLTON
Anna please.

Anna turns around and slaps Colton's face.

                       ANNA
Asshole!

64.

Anna runs away. Colton rubs his face and shakes his head.

As Colton walks back inside, Kyder is standing in the entry
way wearing a robe.

                       KYDER
      (taking robe off)
Well, I guess if she's gone, we
can continue what we were doing.

                       COLTON
You should leave. We never should
of done this.

                       KYDER
Come on, she's gone. Let's have a
little fun.

                       COLTON
I'm not at all like Wade.

                       KYDER
      (putting robe on)
Fine, but don't come crying to me
when she won't take you back.

Kyder opens the front door and rushes out. She then slams
the door behind her.

                       COLTON
You definitely don't have to worry
about that.

INT. BAR - DAY

Colton is sitting at a bar drinking shots of whiskey. The
song "I've hurt her more then she loves me" is playing in
the background.

Snodgrass walks in and sits beside Colton.

                       SNODGRASS
I assume it's bad.

                       COLTON
More like awfull.

                       SNODGRASS
Is she gone for good.

65.

                       COLTON
Yeah, but there's nothing good
about it.

                       SNODGRASS
It's a small town, you might see
her again.

                       COLTON
Small compared to what?

                       SNODGRASS
Look, I don't know what love is. I
haven't ever felt like I loved
someone. But I do know one thing.
And that is that you would never
leave your office to go to Hawaii
spontaneously. Maybe it's not
love, but whatever you feel for
this girl. Don't let her get away.

                       COLTON
Thank you Snodgrass. I think
that's the first time you said
something I completely agreed
with.

                       SNODGRASS
Probably and don't thank me, just
make our lives at the office
easier by getting her back.

Snodgrass walks away.

INT. FRONT LOBBY OF COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Jessica is sitting at the front desk when Kyder walks in.

                       KYDER
      (to Jessica)
Is Colton here?

                       JESSICA
You mean Mr. Saphley.

                       KYDER
This is a social call, not a
client meeting.

                       JESSICA
Whatever, he's not here. His
associate, Snodgrass is here.

66.

                       KYDER
I guess I'll just talk to him.

                       JESSICA
He's in the office across from
Colton's.

                       KYDER
Which ones yours?

                       JESSICA
There are only two offices.

                       KYDER
      (under her breath)
Who has big boobs now?

SNODGRASS'S OFFICE

Kyder walks in the office. Snodgrass is reading a book. He
drops the book and looks up at her.

                       SNODGRASS
      (in awe)
Hello.

                       KYDER
Do you mind if I sit down?

                       SNODGRASS
Please, I mean yes.

                       KYDER
Could you hand this to Colton?

Kyder hands Snodgrass an envelope.

                       SNODGRASS
      (taking envelope)
Sure.

                       KYDER
Do you think, maybe there's a
chance that Colton would ever be
with me?

                       SNODGRASS
I didn't even know you guys were
together. Aren't you Anna's
friend?

67.

                       KYDER
It was just one night. I don't get
it. Colton is like obsessed with
Anna. Am I not hot?

                       SNODGRASS
No. I mean, what I meant to say
was you definitely are hot.

                       KYDER
So are you attracted to me?

                       SNODGRASS
Yes, very. I don't mean to be
forward, but I can't help but tell
the truth.

                       KYDER
You chose the wrong career.

                       SNODGRASS
      (flustered)
Yes, I did. So what kind of jobs
do your boyfriends do. Not to
insinuate that you get around. But
if you wanted to you could. But,
So What brings you here?

                       KYDER
Colton must not be attracted to
me. I don't know what it is.

                       SNODGRASS
He might be blind.

Snodgrass awkwardly laughs.

                       KYDER
      (unbuttoning rain
       coat)
Tell me off the record. If you
were able to have sex with either
me or Anna, who would it be.

                       SNODGRASS
Off the record?

Kyder stands up and locks the office door.

                       SNODGRASS
Whoa, wait a second.

Snodgrass nervously closes the curtains.

68.

                       KYDER
      (taking coat off)
Completley off the record.

She is wearing a modest but attractive outfit.

Kyder walks over to a wine cabinet and opens the bottom
cupboard. She bends over and examines the bottles.

                       SNODGRASS
      (looking at Kyder)
You, definetly you.

Kyder pulls a wine bottle out of the cabinet.

                       KYDER
      (holding bottle)
Shall we?

                       SNODGRASS
That bottle cost ten thousand
dollars. It's only for our high
paying customers.

                       KYDER
      (she slips the cap
       off)
Uh, oh. Looks like we have to
drink it now. I'll take the first
swallow.

Kyder lifts the bottle up and seductively takes a drink. She
then licks her lips.

                       KYDER (CONT'D)
Oh, looks like there's a little
left on the tip.

Kyder slowly licks the tip of the bottle and hands it to
Snodgrass.

                       KYDER
I forgot I have a meeting to go
to.

                       KYDER
      (walking out the
       door.)
Enjoy it by yourself.

69.

                       SNODGRASS
      (holding the
       bottle)
Bye.

Snodgrass chugs the bottle of wine.

INT. SNODGRASS'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Snodgrass opens his front door and sees Anna standing in the
doorway.

                       ANNA
Snodgrass, take me to your
bedroom.

                       SNODGRASS
Uh, hi. Have you seen Colton
today? He wasn't in the office.

                       ANNA
Take me into your bedroom and take
your clothes off.

                       SNODGRASS
Why would I do that?

                       ANNA
      (taking jacket off)
Because we're gonna have sex.

                       SNODGRASS
Have these feelings been building
up inside of you. I mean I know
I'm very sexy, but I don't know if
we should do this.

                       ANNA
I don't think your handsome at
all, I just want to get back at
Colton.

                       SNODGRASS
No way. I can't be apart of this.
He wants you so bad that, well I
wouldn't live a day if he found
out that we slept together.

                       ANNA
You think he really cares about
me.

70.

                       SNODGRASS
Wait, not even a little handsome?

                       ANNA
Colton was completely playing me.
He dosen't care about me.

                       SNODGRASS
Well, you know how they say
someone fell head over heals for
another person. That saying fit's
him perfectly.

                       ANNA
How do you know he didn't just
wanna have sex with me?

                       SNODGRASS
Because he's in love with you. I
mean he wants you more than
anything. I've known him for ten
years and he's never acted this
crazy.

                       ANNA
Thank you Snodgrass. I think
that's what I needed to hear.

                       SNODGRASS
So, we don't have a future.

                       ANNA
We don't even have a past.

                       SNODGRASS
At least you and Colton will be
happy.

                       ANNA
You'll find someone.

                       SNODGRASS
I think maybe I already did.

                       ANNA
Realy, who is it?

                       SNODGRASS
Her name is Kyder.

                       ANNA
Oh, I see.

71.

                       SNODGRASS
Can you help me try to get her?

                       ANNA
I'll put in a good word or two for
you.

                       SNODGRASS
That'll be enough. I can do the
rest on my own.

INT. FRONT OF COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

Anna walks up to Colton's townhouse and knocks on the door.
Nobody comes to the door, causing her to walk away. As she
walks away she notices Colton on the street. He is carrying
a bag of groceries and looks depressed. He notices Anna and
perks up.

                       COLTON
Anna.

                       ANNA
Colton, I'm so glad to see you. I
overreacted and I shouldn't have
left. I think we should get back
together.

                       COLTON
You know, this is hard for me, but
I think we shouldn't see each
other. I just don't think we are
meant for each other. You should
try to make it with Wade.

                       ANNA
So it's over. You don't want me
anymore.

                       COLTON
I don't think I'm what you need.
I'm sorry, but it's best we end it
now.

                       ANNA
In Hawaii you wanted to be with me
more then anything. What changed
your mind?

72.

                       COLTON
I was being selfish. I didn't
realize what you needed, I just
knew what I wanted.

                       ANNA
If I don't need you than who do I
need?

                       COLTON
You need to be with Wade. I think
fate put me here to tell you that.

Colton starts to walk away.

                       ANNA
Colton wait.

                       COLTON
      (turning around)
What?

                       ANNA
Will you miss me?

                       COLTON
I'm gonna go in my townhouse and
think about you. I'll probably do
that every night and every day of
the rest of my life. Now does that
answer your question?

Colton walks up the steps of his townhouse.

                       ANNA
Bye Colton.

Colton pauses, looks at Anna with a desperate look on his
face and then walks into his townhouse.

Anna sighs in disappointment.

INT. COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

Colton is laying on his couch, drinking a glass of whiskey.
He stares at a picture of Anna and him at the beach. He then
sits up and rubs his face.

                       COLTON
      (to himself)
Why'd you have to let her go? Why
the hell did you let her go?

73.

INT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - NIGHT

The song "Dream a little dream of me", is playing on a
stereo. Anna is cuddled up in a chair in the penthouse's
study. As it rains outside she is listening to a seashell,
drinking warm milk and softly crying.

                       ANNA
      (to herself)
Why did I ever leave him?

INT. COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Colton is sitting in his office drinking a glass of whiskey.

Snodgrass walks in the office.

                       SNODGRASS
Why don't you call her?

                       COLTON
Why don't you mind your own
bussiness?

                       SNODGRASS
Because your so damn depressed.
Hell, it's making me depressed.

                       COLTON
Well I didn't ask you to bring her
up, so don't feel the urge to do
it again.

                       SNODGRASS
Is it beacuse you can't compete?

                       COLTON
What are you even talking about?

                       SNODGRASS
Well it's just that her husband is
a major player in the financial
market. In other words he's
loaded.

                       COLTON
I don't need a financial
evaluation of him. And no, I'm
definitely not competeing with
him.

74.

                       SNODGRASS
Oh, it has nothing to do with
competition. That's just another
word for it.

                       COLTON
I know I'm gonna regret this, but
another word for what?

                       SNODGRASS
Human nature.

                       COLTON
Human nature?

                       SNODGRASS
Yeah, it is natural for the
dominant male to worry that the
female will stick with their
familiar territory.

                       COLTON
Take your national geographic crap
and get out of here.

                       SNODGRASS
At least I said you were the
dominate one, considering in some
aspects your not.

                       COLTON
Why don't you go back to work?

                       SNODGRASS
One more thing.

                       COLTON
What is it?

                       SNODGRASS
Are you single? Because if you
are, I would really like it if you
would see Jessica for your usual
monthly appointment. Your over due
about seven weeks.

                       COLTON
It's been seven weeks since we
reunited.

Short pause.

75.

                       COLTON
Why are you getting involved with
my sex life?

                       SNODGRASS
Because your moping around about
Anna, and Jessica's complaining
about you guy's not getting it on.
I can't think strait. I mean one
of you complaining is bad enough,
but both.

                       COLTON
Okay I get it, just tell Jessica
I'll be waiting for her at my
house tonight.

                       SNODGRASS
I'll deliver the message. Just
make sure not to screw this up,
because I really can't take it
anymore.

                       COLTON
Okay, just get out of here.

INT. COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

Jessica and Colton are sitting on the couch in the living
room.

                       JESSICA
I brought some white wine for
tonight.

Colton ignores Jessica.

                       JESSICA (CONT'D)
Did you here me? I said I brought
some white wine.

                       COLTON
Yeah, I heard you. I was just
thinking about something else.

                       JESSICA
Was it the crazy bimbo you took to
Hawaii?

76.

                       COLTON
No, no. It was something else.
Don't worry about her, she'll
never be around me again.

                       JESSICA
Good, cause I think we should
spend more time together.

                       COLTON
What did you have in mind?

                       JESSICA
A more permanent relationship.

                       COLTON
You're right. We should have a
more permanent relationship.

                       JESSICA
Good.

Colton kisses Jessica.

                       JESSICA (CONT'D)
Now let's continue are usual
ritual.

                       COLTON
Now that's a damn good idea.

The two continue kissing.

INT. DR. HARDIN'S OFFICE - DAY

Dr. HARDIN is sitting behind a desk. He is in his mid
thirties and has brown hair. He is a marriage counselor.
Both Wade and Anna are sitting in two chairs facing him.

                       DR. HARDIN
So, what's your biggest marital
problem?

                       ANNA
He cheated on me.

                       DR. HARDIN
You say that fast, as if your
confidence has been damaged. Has
it?

77.

                       ANNA
Of course it lowers my self
esteem. I feel like a lesser
person around him, and his
cheating just reiterated that
feeling.

                       WADE
Can I get a word in? I think we're
jumping to conclusions. I gave
this woman every dime she wanted
and then some. On top of all this
I had a measly affair.

Anna sighs is annoyance.

                       DR. HARDIN
I doubt Anna would describe it as
measly.

                       ANNA
Oh, I wouldn't.

                       DR. HARDIN
Look, I suggest you guy's do
something in an effort to rekindle
the romance in your relationship.
Obviously Wade is not getting
something from you and has to go
outside the marraige to get it.

                       WADE
      (to Anna)
See it is all your fault.

                       DR. HARDIN
No, it definitely is not all her
fault. However, she could improve
on a few things. With a lot of
work and a little progress, you'll
both be back on track very soon.

                       ANNA
      (stressed)
Sure.

                       DR. HARDIN
Is that not what you want?

                       ANNA
No, it is what I want.

78.

                       WADE
Are you sure?

                       ANNA
      (reluctant)
Yes.

INT. SOEMTHING WITH COLTON OR KYDER AND SNODGRASS - DAY

Wade and Anna walk in to the apartment. Wade's cell phone
starts ringing.

                       WADE
I have to answer this.

Wade takes his cell phone out of his pocket and answers it.

INT. WADE'S OFFICE - DAY

JIM is standing in the office with the phone up to his ear.
He is in his late fifties, dressed in a suit, smoking a
cigar.

INT. INTER CUT-TELEPHONE CONVERSATION - DAY

                       WADE
This is wade.

                       JIM
Wade this is Jim. We got a big
problem, the Dow is down and our
investors are calling non stop.

                       WADE
Look, if it was any other night
I'd be there, but me and Anna have
special plans.

                       JIM
I know, which is why I hate to ask
you, but I need you.

                       WADE
Come on Jim, give me a break here
will you.

                       JIM
I need you. It's that simple.

                       WADE
      (annoyed)
Fine, I'll be there in twenty,
thirty minutes.

                       JIM
Thanks, pal.

                       WADE
Yeah.

Jim hangs up the phone followed by Wade.

INT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - DAY

Wade and Anna are standing in the entryway.

                       WADE
I'm so sorry. If I had anyway out
of this I would.

                       ANNA
Yeah, sure.

                       WADE
Hey gorgeous, it's alright. Look,
pour us some wine and put
something sexy on. Then we'll make
love and talk. Or whatever you're
into. How does that sound?

                       ANNA
      (trying to be
       enthused)
Great.

                       WADE
Good.

Wade kisses Anna on the cheek and leaves.

LATER

Anna walks into the bedroom from the bathroom. She is
wearing very sexy lingerie. Wade is lighting a candle. There
are five candles already lit.

                       ANNA
I have to say, I'm very impressed.

80.

                       WADE
Well, this is the new me. A
happier, romantic and more
sensitive Wade.

                       ANNA
Exactly what I've been waiting
for.

                       WADE
And I'm here to stay.

Anna kisses Wade on the lips.

INT. GOLF COURSE - DAY

The golf course is nice, but not spectacular. It has a small
club house and driving range. There are no carts on the
course.

FIRST HOLE

Snodgrass and Colton are walking up to the first hole. They
set their bags down. Colton tees off while Snodgrass cleans
his ball.

Colton gets in his golf stance. He takes a practice swing
that looks perfect. He gets back into position and is about
to hit the ball.

                       SNODGRASS
      (while Colton hits
       ball)
So how's Anna doing?

Colton hits a big divot in the grounds without launching his
ball. Colton turns around and faces Snodgrass.

                       COLTON
      (pointing finger)
Snod, not a word. Not another damn
word.

                       SNODGRASS
I'm just wondering.

                       COLTON
Now is not the day Snod. It never
is and never will be.

81.

LATER - THIRD HOLE

Snodgrass and Colton walk up to the teeing off grounds for
the third hole. The fairway is two hundred and fifteen yards
long. There are two bags on top of the teeing grounds.

                       COLTON
Where the hell are the golfers?

There is some noise in the bushes on the side of the teeing
off grounds.

                       SNODGRASS
I think there's someone in the
damn bushes.

Anna and Wade walk out of the bushes, straightening their
clothes.

                       SNODGRASS
      (noticing Anna)
This is gonna be intresting.

                       COLTON
Snod, especialy not now?

                       WADE
      (putting his hand
       out)
The divorce attorney, right?

                       COLTON
Yeah.

Colton shakes Wade's hand in confusion.

                       WADE
Honey, don't be deaf. Your
attorney is here.

                       ANNA
Yeah, I noticed.

                       WADE
Well fortunately we've worked
things out.

                       COLTON
Yeah, I assumed.

                       SNODGRASS
Good to see you too Anna.

82.

                       COLTON
      (quietly to
       Snodgrass)
Snod.

Snodgrass walks up to Colton.

                       SNODGRASS
      (whispering)
You'd think she'd say something.

                       COLTON
      (whispering)
You'd think quite a lot of things
right now. My mind is spinning.

                       WADE
      (to Colton)
What do you say we golf together.

                       ANNA
Oh, no. I mean, we're much slower
than you guys I'm sure.

                       SNODGRASS
      (whispering to
       Colton)
Especially if they stop in the
bushes again.

                       COLTON
      (whispering to
       Snodgrass)
Snod, your gonna die.

                       COLTON (CONT'D)
Why don't we go first and then you
guys can follow.

                       WADE
Sounds like a plan.

Colton walks up to the tee and places his ball upon it. He
takes out his biggest club and gets into his stance.

                       COLTON
Wade, why don't you lie on your
stomach and tell me if my ball is
centered with the flag.

                       SNODGRASS
No, that's a bad idea.

83.

                       ANNA
I aggree with Snodgrass.

                       SNODGRASS
Finally someone does.

                       WADE
I'll be fine.

Wade lies on his stomach six inches away from the ball.
Colton stares at Wade as if he's the ball.

                       ANNA
      (mouthing to
       Colton)
Don't do it.

                       WADE
I think it's perfect.

                       COLTON
Check again, the ball has to be
precise to get in the hole.

Snodgrass shakes his head as Colton gets into position.

He swings his club hitting the ball perfectly. Wade quickly
stands up.

                       ANNA
Where is it?

                       WADE
Do you see it?

                       SNODGRASS
I see it, it's about to hit the
green.

                       COLTON
Good that's what the hell I was
aiming for.

The ball hits the green and rolls down into the hole.

                       SNODGRASS
It made it. We have a sinker. Good
job Colton.

Snodgrass and Anna clap.

                       COLTON
Whatever.

84.

                       WADE
You just hit a hole in one on a
par four, you should be ecstatic.

                       COLTON
It's just golf. You guys have a
good day.

Colton puts his clubs on his back and walks away.

                       COLTON (CONT'D)
Come on Snod. Get your ass up
here.

Snodgrass grabs his clubs and runs to Colton

                       SNODGRASS
You just hit a hole in one. You
must really be in love with this
girl.

                       COLTON
Well for once you hit the nail on
the head.

                       SNODGRASS
So you are in love with her.

                       COLTON
It's not obvious or anything is
it?

                       SNODGRASS
So that's what love is.

                       COLTON
What are you saying love is?

                       SNODGRASS
You acting weird.

                       COLTON
Well it's been described a lot a
ways through the years, but I
guess in this case that's what it
is.

Snodgrass and Colton drop their bags and go up to the green
to put.

85.

INT. COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Colton is sitting behind his desk when Snodgrass walks in.

                       COLTON
Snodgrass. What do you want?

                       SNODGRASS
Her name is Kyder. And I believe
you have her phone number.

                       COLTON
I'm afraid I didn't receive her
number. And I probably won't be in
contact with her any time soon.

                       SNODGRASS
First of all, You had sex with the
woman and you don't have her phone
number. That's just wrong. Second
of all, she is gorgeous. If your
not with Anna, why wouldn't you
pursue her?

                       COLTON
Well first of all, I didn't need
her number for what we did. And
second of all, Me and Jessica are
in the process of escalating our
relationship.

                       SNODGRASS
Well, you certainly traded down.

                       COLTON
Excuse me.

                       SNODGRASS
You once said more then an evening
with Jessica and your head would
explode. So unless your meaning of
escalation is a little morning
excitement, then I would argue
that your making a big mistake.

                       COLTON
Well thanks for the advice, but
I'm very sure that I would rather
follow the advice of a fortune
teller, than a red headed basket
case trying to win the heart of a
supermodel like blond.

86.

                       SNODGRASS
You don't have to take my advice,
however I would also argue that
your emotional state is in
question.

                       COLTON
My emotional state is none of your
business and if I know anything,
it is that you have warn out your
welcome in this office.

                       SNODGRASS
      (walking toward
       the door)
Fine, but don't complain to me
when you're big breasted blondie,
has convinced you too stay in a
fleabag motel, during your
honeymoon at the lucky eagle
casino.

                       COLTON
Don't forget to shut the door. And
please, let it hit you on the way
out.

Snodgrass glares at Colton and then slams the door.

INT. PUB - NIGHT

Kyder is sitting at the bar when Snodgrass walks up to her.

                       SNODGRASS
Kyder. Do you remember me?

                       KYDER
      (disgusted)
Um, no.

                       SNODGRASS
I'm the guy you had that very
expensive wine with.

                       KYDER
Still not remembering anything?

                       SNODGRASS
You'll remember when we get back
to my place.

87.

                       KYDER
Remember this.

Kyder throws a glass of wine at Snodgrass, splashing his
face. Kyder then walks away.

                       SNODGRASS
      (to himself)
Didn't see that coming. Sort of
didn't see that coming.

INT. PORTLAND ROSE GARDENS - DAY

A black tie event...

The party is outside surrounded by the rose gardens. There
are around two hundred upper class people in attendance.
Everyone is holding a champagne glass in their hands. Colton
and Jessica are talking to different people. Wade and Anna
enter the party.

                       WADE
I'm gonna go mingle. You have a
good time.

Wade kisses Anna on the cheek.

Colton notices Anna and excuses himself from his group. He
walks toward Anna as the song "Wonderful tonight" plays in
the background.

                       COLTON
Anna, you look wonderful.

                       ANNA
Thank you. How long has it been?

                       COLTON
A few months. Are you still
married?

                       ANNA
Wade's a changed person. We went
to counseling and he really has
become the person I wanted him to
be.

                       COLTON
Good, I'm glad you sound happy.

                       ANNA
I'am very happy. What about you?

88.

                       COLTON
Oh, same old thing. Jessica and me
are more then what we used to be.
I thought we'd never end up
together, but it looks that way.

                       ANNA
As long as you're happy.

                       COLTON
I'm. Maybe not as happy as I could
be, but I'm happy enough I guess.

                       ANNA
Well I guess we're where we're
supposed to be.

                       COLTON
Are you still friends with Kyder.
She was sort of rude to Snodgrass
when he was trying to ask her out.

                       ANNA
No. After she showed her true
colours we parted ways. But as for
Snodgrass, keep him around. I
think you need him.

                       COLTON
I don't know if I need him, but
thanks for the advice.

                       ANNA
You do. I'll see you later Colton
Saphely.

                       COLTON
Yeah, I hope everything works out
for you.

                       ANNA
I hope it works for you too.

                       COLTON
Thank you.

Anna walks way.

                       COLTON
      (to himself)
Damn I miss her.

89.

                       ANNA
      (to herself)
Damn I miss him.

LATER

Anna is walking around the gardens searching for Wade, as
people start to leave. She walks out to their car and does
not see him. She gets in the car and drives away.

INT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - DAY

Anna walks into the penthouse and walks toward the bedroom.
Wade is lying in the bed with a BLOND woman, who is in her
underwear.

                       WADE
      (shocked)
Anna, the party is already over?

                       ANNA
You damn right it is.

Wade gets out of the bed wearing nothing but his boxers.

                       WADE
No, I can explain.

                       ANNA
No, you can't. I knew you didn't
change. I knew you we're the same
piece of shit you've always been.

                       WADE
Look, I fell through the cracks.
I'm sorry. We can come back from
this.

                       ANNA
You want my response to that?

Anna picks up three apples from a fruit basket.

                       ANNA (CONT'D)
Well here it is.

Anna starts throwing the apples at him. The first one hits
him in the shoulder.

                       WADE
Ouch.

90.

She throws the second one hitting him in the forehead.

                       WADE
That hurts! That really, really
hurts.

With all her strength she throws the last one hitting him in
the balls.

                       WADE
      (high pitched)
Oh shit!

Wade falls to the ground holding his package.

                       BLOND
That's like, really trashy of you,
to throw fruit at him.

Anna picks up an apple and throws it at the woman hitting
her in the mouth causing her to fall over.

                       ANNA
What's trashy honey, is sleeping
with a married man.

The woman yanks the apple out of her mouth. She sees a tooth
stuck in the apple.

                       BLOND
      (screaming)
Oh my gosh!

The Blond runs into the bathroom.

                       ANNA (CONT'D)
By the way Wade. The divorce is
back on. I'm gonna go to my
divorce attorney and have him get
the paperwork ready. And then I'm
gonna sleep with him, again. Now
take your slut and get out of my
house.

Anna throws his clothes at him.

                       WADE
You can't do this to me.

                       ANNA
Yeah, you have no idea what I'm
capable of. I have the best
attorney in town.

91.

The blond walks out of the bathroom with a towel up to her
mouth.

                       BLOND
You broke, like, three of my
teeth, you bitch.

                       ANNA
      (making fun of her)
Well like, go to the dentist where
you live and get them like, fixed.
The slums probably charge you less
anyways.

                       WADE
      (walking toward
       the door)
I'll make sure you don't get a
dime.

                       ANNA
Trust me. It will be you that
needs the dime. It helps when you
have an attorney that is motivated
by your assets.

Wade slams the door. Anna locks the door and slides her back
down the door so that she is sitting against it. She then
cries.
