HALF OF EVERYTHING

FADE IN:

EXT. I5 PORTLAND OREGON - TEWILLIGER CURVES - DAY

COLTON Sheridan drives his convertible with the top down,
headed north bound toward the city of Portland, Oregon.

Colton is a taller blond man in his early fifties. He's
rugged, but handsome. He's both lonely and a romantic, but
still a guy's guy.

Colton passes a huge billboard on the side of the freeway.
On the billboard it has a picture of him wearing a suit.

INSERT BILLBOARD, WHICH READS:

                       BILLBOARD
Divorce or Prenup?
Colton Sheridan
Attorney at Law

Colton sees himself in his car's rear-view mirror.

                       COLTON
      (to himself)
Am I really that damn good
looking?

Colton merges onto the Ross Island Bridge and drives over
the Willamette River.

The skyline of Portland shines in the background. Colton
exits the freeway and drives up to a gas station.

GAS STATION

The Gas station has a few pumps and a convenience store
connected to it. BILLY, a young man, walks up to the car. He
is dressed in a gas station attendant's uniform.

                       BILLY
What can I get for you today, Mr.
Sheridan?

Colton gets out of his car.

                       COLTON
If you could fill it for me Billy,
that would be great.

2.

Colton pats him on the shoulder.

                       BILLY
Yes sir.

Colton stands beside his car.

A DIVORCED MAN drives his sports car up to the gas station.
He's in his forties and looks and acts very stuck up.

Divorced Man gets out of his car and walks up to a Hispanic
gas attendant.

                       DIVORCED MAN
      (angry)
Are you blind or just stupid? I
want my gas the second I get here.

Colton walks up to the divorced man.

                       COLTON
Is there a problem here?

Divorced Man looks at Colton.

                       DIVORCED MAN
Why don't you mind your own damn
business?

Divorced Man studies Colton.

                       DIVORCED MAN
Waite a minute. You're Colton.
Colton Sheridan. You helped me get
six million from my ex.

                       COLTON
      (irritated)
Yeah, I remember you.

Divorced Man points at the Hispanic Gas attendant.

                       DIVORCED MAN
Well this stupid shit, doesn't
even know how to pump gas.

                       DIVORCED MAN
      (to attendant)
Why don't you go back to where you
came from?

3.

                       COLTON
You know. Now that I think about
it. I really didn't like you then
and, well, I don't care too much
for you now either.

Colton punches Divorced Man in the face. The man falls onto
the hood of his car.

Colton grabs the man's collar.

                       COLTON
Now listen, very carefully. When
you come back here, you will show
these hard workers some respect.
If I ever hear you didn't, I'll
represent your next ex wife. And
you don't want that. Got it?

                       DIVORCED MAN
      (scared)
Yeah. I got it.

Colton throws Divorced Man into the man's car.

RAUL, the gas station owner, walks out of the convenience
store toward Colton.

Divorced Man speeds away frightened out of his mind.

                       RAUL
Thanks Colton. We don't need
unsavory characters around here.

                       COLTON
Raul, it's the least I could do.
It's good to see you again.

Billy walks up to Colton and Raul.

                       BILLY
      (to Colton)
That will be thirty seven ninety
eight.

Colton takes his wallet out.

                       RAUL
No, no. Mr. Sheridan, save your
money. It's on me.

4.

                       COLTON
Well thanks Raul, but you don't
have to do that.

                       RAUL
You saved me a hundred thousand in
my divorce. I should do something
to express my gratitude.

Colton hands the money to Raul.

                       COLTON
Here, but thanks for the gesture.

                       RAUL
Anytime. That's money that would
have to go to my ex and her
live-in boyfriend, if it wasn't
for you.

Colton gets in his car and starts it up.

                       COLTON
Remember send me some referrals.

                       RAUL
You got it. True freedom is
priceless.

                       COLTON
And divorces are cheaper than we
think.

Colton drives away.

EXT. DOWNTOWN PORTLAND, OR - DAY

Colton leans against the hood of his convertible, which is
parked in font of a department store near Pioneer Square.

JESSICA walks out of the store.

A blond in her mid forties she has big boobs and looks much
younger than she actually is.

                       JESSICA
      (smiling)
Well, I'm surprised to see you
here.

                       COLTON
Happy though, right?

5.

Jessica leans toward Colton.

                       JESSICA
Very happy!

Jessica kisses Colton on the lips.

                       JESSICA
How'd you know I was here?

The two get into the car.

                       COLTON
Well Jessica, it is Saturday
afternoon and I gave you a big
bonus yesterday. I knew a
department store wasn't out of
reach.

                       JESSICA
      (winking)
I hope you'll give me another
bonus tonight.

Colton starts his car.

                       COLTON
Oh I will, but this time it won't
be monetary.

The two kiss and then put their seat belts on.

                       JESSICA
      (laughing)
I don't know which one I like
better.

                       COLTON
Well you should.

Colton kisses Jessica on the lips.

                       JESSICA
That helped me make up my mind.

Colton drives away from the street into the flow of traffic.

                       JESSICA
So where are we going?

                       COLTON
I thought a picnic at Timberline
would be nice.

6.

                       JESSICA
Perfect for such a beautiful day!

As the car fades away, ANNA and KYDER walk up to the
department store entrance.

Anna has brown hair and an attractive presence. She's in her
thirties and appears slightly unhappy.

Kyder is around thirty years old and very beautiful. She has
blond hair and a perfect figure.

                       ANNA
I can't believe Wade. He wants me
to host some party for his uppity
little friends he's trying to
impress.

                       KYDER
What does he even do for a living
anyway?

Kyder opens the door to the department store.

                       ANNA
He bought a fruit basket company
or something. He's also big in the
stock market. Why do you ask?

The two walk into the store.

                       KYDER
Well Anna, he's just never home,
so I was wondering if he might
ever cheat on you.

                       ANNA
I wouldn't be surprised, but he's
too big of an ego maniac for any
woman to want him.

                       KYDER
Just you, huh?

                       ANNA
      (irritated)
Yeah, well Kyder he wasn't always
like this. What's going on in your
world lately?

                       KYDER
I'm the typical single
professional woman in a big city.

                       ANNA
Oh, I miss that life.

                       KYDER
Don't miss it too much, sometimes
I wake up alone.

                       ANNA
Sadly in my marriage, that's a
usual occurrence.

                       KYDER
It starts to feel kind of stale
and meaningless.

                       ANNA
Oh tell me about it.

EXT. SKI LIFT ON MT HOOD - DAY

The ski lift is open in the summer for sight seeing only. A
great view of Timberline lodge and Mt Hood complete the
background.

Colton and Jessica walk up to the ski lift and sit down on a
ski bench. The lift moves forward allowing their feet to
dangle below.

                       JESSICA
This is turning out to be a
wonderful afternoon.

                       COLTON
Well I took you up here for a
reason.

                       JESSICA
To make me Happy? Because it's
definitely working.

Jessica kisses Colton on the lips.

                       COLTON
Well, I've been thinking and I
want to change our arrangement.

                       JESSICA
      (worried)
What do you mean?

8.

                       COLTON
What I mean is, I want to move
forward and take the next step in
our relationship.

                       JESSICA
      (shocked)
Are you asking me to be your
official girlfriend or something?

                       COLTON
Sort of. What I'm trying to say is
that we should think about making
a step that would possibly lead
toward something more permanent.

                       JESSICA
Excuse me, but I thought this was
all physical. Yeah we spend time
together, but that's it.

                       COLTON
I'm just suggesting that we have a
plan. That we settle down a
little.

                       JESSICA
      (chuckling)
You've got the wrong woman. I, I
just don't settle down.

                       COLTON
Look, let's be real Jessica. We're
not getting any younger and
someday if we continue the way we
have been, we're gonna end up two
very lonely people.

                       JESSICA
Lonely or miserable? I'd rather be
lonely.

                       COLTON
You'd be miserable committed to
me?

                       JESSICA
Not you, anyone. I'd be miserable
with any level of commitment.

                       COLTON
We've been seeing each other for
over five years. I want someone I
can really focus on. So what do

contraption stops.

                       COLTON
Okay, just forget I ever said
anything.

Full of disappointment, Colton looks at the peak of Mt Hood
and the cascade mountains surrounding it.

                       JESSICA
      (laughing)
Settle down and get married.

INT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - NIGHT

A very modern Penthouse, the windows overlook the Portland
skyline and the Willamette River. Around twenty people, all
holding cocktails, make small talk.

WADE GRANT, is surrounded by a small group, who are all
laughing. Wade is in his late thirties. He's very snooty and
clean cut. Attractive, but extremely arrogant.

Wade walks over to Anna who is sitting on a couch, looking
very board.

                       WADE
Honey, come meet everyone.

Wade takes Anna by the hand and leads her to a group of
three men. MR. ROWE, MR. NESBITT and MR. SPITZENGEL, who all
have drinks in their hands.

Each one is in their early sixties. They all look and act
very snooty.

                       WADE
Men, this is my wife Anna.

Anna shakes hands with each man.

Wade points at each man as he introduces them.

                       WADE

Bank, and this is Mr Nesbitt from

I'm going to bed, I don't feel so
good.

                       WADE
I hope you feel better. Good night
dear.

Wade kisses her on the forehead.

                       ANNA
      (to the men)
Have a good evening.

Anna walks away.

                       MR. ROWE
You definitely know how to pick
them.

                       WADE
She picked me.

The group of men laugh.

LATER - MASTER BEDROOM

Anna lies on the bed in her night gown as Wade takes off his
tie.

                       WADE
      (annoyed)
I noticed you weren't enjoying
yourself earlier.

                       ANNA
I just didn't feel very good. Oh
yeah, by the way, I'm going
shopping tomorrow with Kyder. So
I'm probably gonna need some
money.

                       WADE
Too sick to make your husband look
good, but not too sick to shop.

11.

                       ANNA
      (smiling)
Well you can never be too sick to
go shopping.

                       WADE
How much money do you need?

                       ANNA
Around five hundered or so.

                       WADE
You can put a thousand on the
card. I want my wife looking
expensive at our next party.

                       ANNA
      (taken back)
What was that supposed to mean?

Wade gets into the bed.

                       WADE
Honey, tonight your dress looked,
well, cheap.

                       ANNA
What made you think that?

                       WADE
Some of the other women were
talking.

                       ANNA
What jerks! And you didn't find it
necessary to defend me.

                       WADE
I need you to buy something
expensive. Mr Rowe's wife, buys
something called Shantell.

                       ANNA
Chanel not Shantell, but that's
expensive. Are you sure you want
me to spend that much?

                       WADE
I sure in the hell do. Look,
tonight Mr. Nesbitt from Nesbitt
petroleum was here. It doesn't get
much bigger than that.

12.

                       ANNA
Who cares about Mr. Nesbitt!
Whatever I choose to wear should
be fine.

                       WADE
He's just the richest man in
Oregon. We need to look and act as
rich as he is. So, just go buy an
expensive dress.

                       ANNA
      (annoyed)
Whatever.

Wade leans toward Anna.

                       WADE
I hate my number one girl to be
mad at me. Now give me a kiss!

Anna reluctantly gives Wade a kiss.

                       ANNA
I would hope that you would love
me no matter what dress I was
wearing.

                       WADE
      (sneering)
The more expensive, the more I
love you. But don't get me wrong.
I love you a little, no matter
what.

                       ANNA
So assuring. So you would love me
a lot more if I was wearing
something expensive?

                       WADE
That isn't what I just said or
anything. Now come on, I have to
get some sleep.

                       ANNA
You can be a real ass sometime.

                       WADE
I was kidding. Goodnight.

Wade gets comfortable as Anna appears to be offended.

INT. MALL - DAY

A department store inside the mall. Anna stands in line
holding a dress.

The CASHIER takes the dress and scans it.

The cashier is in her sixties and acts completely annoyed.

                       CASHIER
Your total is eight hundred and
fifty dollars.

Anna hands her a credit card and the cashier slides it
through the machine.

                       CASHIER
Didn't go through.

                       ANNA
      (shocked)
What?

                       CASHIER
Ma'am it didn't go through.

                       ANNA
      (snooty)
That's impossible. Try it again.

Kyder walks up to Anna.

                       KYDER
What's going on here?

                       ANNA
My card won't go through.

                       CASHIER
      (rudely)
Lady, if you cant afford this
dress just walk away. Don't worry,
you won't look anymore stupid than
you already do.

                       ANNA
But I can afford this dress.
You're just not doing your job
right. Run the card through again.

14.

                       CASHIER
I know the kind of people who buy
these clothes, and frankly, you're
not that kind of person.

                       ANNA
This is bullshit. I'm leaving, but
I'll be back and you'll loose your
job.

                       CASHIER
      (sarcastically)
Oh, I'm so scared.

                       ANNA
You should be.

                       KYDER
Come on, there's no need to waste
our time arguing with this old
hag.

The Cashier puts her fists up like she's ready to fight.

                       CASHIER
I can take any one of you bimbos.

Anna and Kyder start to walk away and then pause.

                       ANNA
Maybe forty years ago.

                       CASHIER
Right now! I'll jump over this
counter!

The Cashier tries to lift her leg over the counter.

Anna turns around and faces the Cashier.

                       KYDER
Come on Anna.

Anna and Kyder walk to the entry of the store. Anna then
takes her phone out of her pocket. As she dials numbers on
her phone, Colton walks up to her.

                       COLTON
Excuse me miss, but, well I don't
do this very often, but what do
you say I help you out and buy
that dress for you.

15.

Anna hangs up her phone and sticks it in her purse.

                       ANNA
Thank you, but I'm married.

Anna shows Colton her shiny diamond wedding ring.

                       COLTON
Oh, but that doesn't matter.

                       ANNA
Excuse me?

                       COLTON
It doesn't matter rather you're
married or not. I was gonna give
it to you one way or the other.

Anna lightly slaps Colton.

                       ANNA
How rude could you possibly be?

Colton rubs his face.

                       COLTON
Ouch! What the hell was that for?

                       ANNA
Because you're a sick pervet.

                       COLTON
Wait a second, did you think I
wanted to sleep with you or
something?

                       ANNA
Of course. Why else would I slap
you?

                       COLTON
That's funny.

Colton laughs.

                       ANNA
What's so funny?

                       COLTON
Oh nothing.

16.

                       ANNA
      (stern)
No, really. What's so funny?

                       COLTON
You just wouldn't be my first
choice.

Anna slaps Colton across the face again.

                       COLTON
Ouch! Would you stop doing that?

                       ANNA
I think you should buy me the
dress now.

                       COLTON
Well, now I don't want too.

                       ANNA
Buy me the dress.

                       COLTON
No way lady. I'm not here to take
orders from you.

Kyder walks up to Colton.

                       KYDER
You better buy her that damn
dress.

                       COLTON
I dont think I should.

                       KYDER
Why not?

                       COLTON
She slapped me.

                       KYDER
So.

                       ANNA
Buy me the dress dammit.

                       COLTON
Okay, okay just calm down. For the
record, I really don't want too.

17.

                       ANNA
That really doesn't matter, now
does it?

                       COLTON
No, but at least I can list you as
a donation on my tax return or
something.

INT. OUTSIDE STORE IN MALL - DAY

Kyder and Anna stand outside the store, when Colton walks
out holding the dress.

                       COLTON
That cashier in there is a little
like someone I just met.

                       ANNA
Thanks. Now can I have something?

                       COLTON
Here's the damn dress.

Colton hands Anna the dress. Colton stands still.

                       ANNA
You can leave now.

Colton pulls out a card from his suit coat.

                       COLTON
Here's my number. Call if you ever
get a divorce.

Colton walks away. Anna rolls her eyes.

                       ANNA
What a stupid pick up line.

Anna looks at the card.

bussiness.

18.

                       ANNA
Thanks for lifting my spirits.

                       KYDER
What should we do now?

                       ANNA
I have to go home and get some
cash.

                       KYDER
Well, call me if you decide to do
something later.

                       ANNA
Yeah, I will.

Kyder walks away.

Anna stares at the card while shaking her head. She puts the
card in her purse and walks away.

EXT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - DAY

Anna walks through the front door of the penthouse.

MASTER BEDROOM

Wade is in his boxers lying next to CARRIE.

Carrie is very tall and has dark hair. She is in her early
twenties and is very beautiful.

                       ANNA (V.O)
Honey, are you home?

                       WADE
Ah shit!

Wade stands up and slips his pants on.

                       CARRIE
What's the matter?

                       WADE
Hide in the bathroom.

                       CARRIE
What?

                       WADE
Just go in the bathroom.

19.

As wade puts his shirt on, Carrie runs into the bathroom.
Anna walks in as Wade buttons up his shirt.

                       WADE
Hi honey, what a great suprise.

                       ANNA
      (suspicious)
What's going on?

                       WADE
Oh nothing, I just came home for
lunch. That's all.

                       ANNA
I thought you had a doctor's
appointment today.

Anna looks around the room.

                       WADE
Yeah, well it was canceled.

                       ANNA
That's weird. I wonder why.

                       WADE
      (nervous)
I, I dont know why, but it was.

                       ANNA
Um, well I have to go to the
bathroom.

Wade runs in front of the bathroom door.

                       WADE
      (abruptly)
No. I mean, I made lunch, so let's
eat first.

                       ANNA
Honey, I have to go pee.

                       WADE
The food will get cold though.

                       ANNA
Come on, your lunch can wait two
minutes.

                       WADE
Fine, but I love you.

20.

                       ANNA
      (suspicious)
Okay, why'd you say that?

Wade rolls his eyes.

                       WADE
I don't know, but you'll find out
in a few seconds.

Wade walks away from the bathroom door and pops his neck in
frustration.

                       WADE
      (to himself)
Oh please help me.

Anna walks into the bathroom and stands in front of the
mirror. While looking in the mirror she rubs her teeth with
her thumb.

Anna glances to the corner of the mirror and sees Carrie,
who is crouched down. Her naked body is wrapped in a shower
curtain.

                       ANNA
Who the hell are you?

                       CARRIE
      (nervous)
His new secretary.

Anna storms out of the bathroom full of anger. She walks up
to Wade, who looks very depressed as if he knows exactly
what's coming.

                       ANNA
What do you have to say for your
self?

                       WADE
Let's all have lunch together?

                       ANNA
You son of a bitch.

Anna slaps Wade across the face.

                       WADE
She's a lingerie model and I was
just checking out her products.

21.

                       ANNA
      (angrier)
Your company sells fruit baskets.
Since when the hell did fruit have
to do with underwear?

                       WADE
      (smirking)
Have you ever heard of fruit of
the loom?

                       ANNA
How can you make a joke at a time
like this? You arrogant bastard.

                       WADE
Would you stop calling me names?

                       ANNA
I think they're very fitting for
our current predicament.

                       ANNA
      (to Carrie)
You're one hell of a secretary you
whore.

                       WADE
      (quietly)
Carrie, please don't respond to
that.

                       CARRIE
      (to Anna)
I'm just giving him what you
can't.

Wade has a frustrated look on his face as Anna slaps Carrie
across the face.

                       WADE
Anna, say you're sorry.

                       ANNA
I'm done. I'm done with all of
this.

Anna walks out of the bedroom toward the front door as Wade
follows.

                       WADE
But Anna, I love you.

22.

Anna sighs, turns around and punches Wade in the nose. She
then walks out the door and slams it behind her.

Wade holds his nose in pain.

                       WADE
That bitch!

                       CARRIE
Do you mind if I stay?

Wade pauses in pain.

                       WADE
Sure, what the hell.

Wade kisses Carrie as he slips her shower curtain off.

INT. PARKING GARAGE - DAY

Anna sits in her car crying, while the radio plays "How Deep
is Your Love". She cries for nearly a minute, sheltering
herself in the music.

Suddenly Anna takes Colton's card out of her purse and
studies it.

INT. FRONT LOBBY OF COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Anna walks up to the front desk in the middle of the lobby.
Jessica sits behind the desk.

                       ANNA
I'm looking for Colton Sheridan.

                       JESSICA
Do you have an appointment?

                       ANNA
No, but.

23.

SNODGRASS walks in. He has red hair, is in his early
thirties and is casually dressed. He looks and acts very
nerdy.

                       SNODGRASS
      (to Jessica)
She doesn't need an appointment.

                       ANNA
      (to Snodgrass)
Excuse me, but who are you?

                       SNODGRASS
Just follow me.

Anna follows Snodgrass down a hallway.

                       ANNA
So, who are you?

                       SNODGRASS
I'm Snodgrass.

                       ANNA
Where are you taking me?

                       SNODGRASS
His office of course.

                       ANNA
      (curious)
How do you know who I'am?

                       SNODGRASS
We've been expecting you.

                       ANNA
      (surprised)
You have?

                       SNODGRASS
Of course, but nobody thought
you'd be here this soon.

INSIDE COLTON'S OFFICE

Snodgrass opens the door to Colton's large office. The
office is very spacious and light. There's a desk and a
large cabinet with expensive alcohol in it.

Snodgrass walks over to the cabinet and opens it.

24.

                       SNODGRASS
You want a drink?

                       ANNA
Sure.

Snodgrass takes a bottle and two glasses out of the cabinet.
He empties the bottle into the two glasses.

                       ANNA
So, how did you know it was me?

Snodgrass hands Anna a drink.

                       SNODGRASS
It was simple. Colton said that
the woman he was expecting was
very beautiful. After his
explanation, I knew it had to be
you.

Anna smiles.

                       ANNA
Well thank you Snodgrass.

                       SNODGRASS
Don't thank me, I'm just stating
the obvious.

                       ANNA
Well thank you anyways.

                       SNODGRASS
Colton should be back in a few
minutes.

                       ANNA
Snodgrass, is Colton interested in
me on more than just an attorney
client relationship?

                       SNODGRASS
Since when did an attorney brag
about how beautiful his client is?

                       ANNA
Good point, but I'm not his client
yet.

                       SNODGRASS
You also haven't slept with him,
yet.

25.

                       ANNA
That's forward. Besides, what
makes you think I or he had
anything close to that in mind?

                       SNODGRASS
When two people are fascinated by
each other that's usually what
happens.

                       ANNA
I don't think we're fascinated at
all. We barely know each other.
Don't you think we're moving our
assumptions pretty fast?

                       SNODGRASS
After one day you're already here.
At this rate you'll be married and
have a kid within a year.

                       ANNA
      (chuckling)
You're getting ahead of yourself.

Snodgrass opens the office door as he smiles.

                       SNODGRASS
Maybe, but we'll see.

Snodgrass walks out the door and shuts it behind him.

Anna walks over to the desk and looks at the pictures
resting upon it.

She sees a picture of Colton and Jessica at a ski resort.
She also sees a picture of Colton and Jessica ridding horses
on the beach.

Her face displays disappointment and confusion. Colton walks
into the office.

                       COLTON
      (excited)
It's you!

                       ANNA
Yeah, it's me.

                       COLTON
Who are you?

26.

                       ANNA
I'm the lady that you met at the
store earlier. You know, the one
that was so rude.

                       COLTON
Well I didn't notice that you were
rude, but what I meant was what's
your name?

                       ANNA
Anna.

The two shake hands.

                       COLTON
I've always loved that name.

Colton walks behind his desk and sits down. Anna then sits
down so that she is facing him.

                       ANNA
      (skeptical)
Oh really?

                       COLTON
Yes really. Matter in fact I was
gonna name my daughter that, if I
ever had one.

                       ANNA
There you go flirting with me
again.

                       COLTON
You call that flirting. Well hell,
I could do a much better job than
that.

Anna smiles.

                       COLTON
See, I knew it was possible. I see
that lovely smile you've been
hiding.

                       ANNA
Maybe you haven't been paying
attention.

                       COLTON
Trust me, if you smiled I would
have noticed.

27.

                       ANNA
Tell me about Snodgrass.

                       COLTON
What's there to tell?

                       ANNA
He acts weird toward me.

                       COLTON
He's very intrigued by you.

                       ANNA
Why?

                       COLTON
      (smiling)
Oh I don't know, maybe it's your
lavish hair or your gorgeous
smile. Or it could be the fact
that us men aren't always blessed
with a beautiful woman like you
around. So, when you do come
around we tend to notice.

                       ANNA
You're actually being serious,
aren't you? Or your flattery
skills are just about perfect.

                       COLTON
I'm just being honest. I don't
usually do that since I am an
attorney.

                       ANNA
So now tell me about Jessica.
Isn't she your girlfriend or
something?

                       COLTON
No, she's just what you would call
a friend with benefits, I guess.
We take what we want from each
other and leave the emotions out
of it.

Anna reveals disappointment in her face.

                       COLTON
Your disposition is like every
other woman that comes in here.
You don't know if you're doing the
right thing. Then you'll ask a few

                       COLTON (cont'd)
questions and realize nope, you're
not doing the right thing. But
most woman that come in here, are
doing the right thing. So, what
are you in here for?

Anna starts to cry. In response, Colton jumps up and walks
over to her.

                       COLTON
No, don't, I'm sorry. Maybe you
didn't understand me.

                       ANNA
It's not you, it's just that I've
had a bad day.

                       COLTON
      (sincerely)
Well how can I help you?

                       ANNA
Refill my drink and be my attorney
in my divorce.

                       COLTON
Absolutely.

Colton walks to the cabinet and pours Anna a drink.

                       ANNA
You knew I wanted a divorce?

                       COLTON
Well you found me pretty quickly.

                       ANNA
So what should I do first?

Colton hands her a drink and sits down.

                       COLTON
Take a moment to think. Then when
you're ready, tell me why you want
a divorce.

                       ANNA
I walked in on him and his
secretary.

29.

                       COLTON
      (sincere)
Gosh, that's not good. Is there
anything I can do?

                       ANNA
Yeah. You can help me end his
pride.

                       COLTON
Is he rich?

Anna wipes a few tears with a cloth.

                       ANNA
Yes, pretty rich.

                       COLTON
How rich? An exact figure would be
nice.

                       ANNA
His net worth is around two
million.

                       COLTON
I can get you around one point
eight million.

                       ANNA
But that only leaves him ten
percent.

                       COLTON
I'm the best attorney in town.

                       ANNA
But that's impossible.

                       COLTON
      (confident)
Like I said. I'm the best attorney
in town.

Colton stands up.

                       COLTON
Now here's what I want you to do.
Go somewhere and right down all
the dirt on him you can think of.
Then meet me at the Stone Cliff
restaurant at around eight
tonight.

30.

                       ANNA
Okay, I guess so.

Anna puts her hand out and shakes Colton's.

Anna stands up and opens the office door.

                       ANNA
I will see you later.

                       COLTON
I'm looking forward to it.

Anna turns around. Her face is full of sadness and weary.

                       ANNA
Thank you, for everything.

Colton puts his hand on her shoulder.

                       COLTON
It's gonna be okay. I promise.
I'll make sure you get way more
than half of everything.

                       ANNA
I wish you could get me half of my
emotions back too.

                       COLTON
Only the good ones.

                       ANNA
And just how are you gonna do
that?

                       COLTON
I'll find a way. You deserve it.

                       ANNA
You really are the best attorney
in town.

                       COLTON
The billboards don't lie.

Anna smiles at Colton and then walks away. Colton watches
her until she disappears. He then closes the door.

31.

EXT. CLACKAMAS RIVER DRIVE - DAY

A beautiful curvy two lane road surrounded by forest and
nature. Parallel to the highway is the Clackamas River.

Miles Davis's "It Never Entered My Mind" plays.

Anna drives down the road with a curious and nervous
disposition.

INT. STONE CLIFF RESTAURANT - NIGHT

An elegant and expensive log themed restaurant. Expansive
windows open up to a beautiful forest and a view of the
river.

Miles Davis's "It Never Entered My Mind" continues to play
romantically in the background.

Colton sits at a table splitting his time between reviewing
a menu and studying his watch.

A waiter walks up to Colton, who looks worried.

                       WAITER
Are you ready yet?

                       COLTON
Let's give her five more minutes.

As Colton looks at his watch again, Anna walks up to the
table. Colton stands up and takes her jacket off for her.

                       COLTON
I started to think you weren't
coming.

                       ANNA
I wasn't going to.

Colton pulls out a chair across the table for Anna.

                       COLTON
What changed your mind?

Anna sits down. Colton walks to the other side of the table
and sits down, across from Anna.

                       ANNA
The thought of being with a man
for the rest of my life, that
didn't appreciate or love me. A
man that would cheat on me and not

even think that it was wrong for a
minute.

                       COLTON
He definitely doesn't deserve you,
that's for sure.

                       ANNA
You don't even know me.

                       COLTON
I know enough. I know you're
beautiful and strong enough to
demand a perfect stranger to buy a
dress for you.

Anna lightly laughs.

                       ANNA
Yes, I can persuade people.

                       COLTON
Well I haven't spent anytime with
you and you've already persuaded
me to represent you.

Anna smiles.

                       COLTON
You're smiling. That's a great
sign.

                       ANNA
That's one thing I could do more
of.

                       COLTON
What, smile?

                       ANNA
Smile or just a simple laugh.
Either one would be sufficient
every once in a while.

                       COLTON
The only way you can be happy is
to surround yourself with people
that appreciate you.

                       ANNA
You mean like you.

33.

                       COLTON
Well I appreciate you, but you
should only be with the person you
want to be with.

                       ANNA
Wade is definitely not that
person.

                       COLTON
Than who is?

                       ANNA
Someone successful, romantic.
Someone who cares about me and
wants to be with me for the rest
of my life.

                       COLTON
Sounds like you're looking for the
perfect man.

                       ANNA
I am. It will be a very long
search, but I'm up for the task.

                       COLTON
At least you'll save him some
time.

                       ANNA
What do you mean?

                       COLTON
If he wants to find the perfect
woman and you want to find the
perfect man. Once you find him, he
won't have to keep searching.

Anna blushes as she smiles.

                       ANNA
Thank you for trying to cheer me
up.

                       COLTON
To a lot of people's surprise, we
attorneys can be honest sometimes.

                       ANNA
Well your kindness is always
appreciated.

34.

                       COLTON
Now before we talk about anything
else, I want to know about you.

                       ANNA
What about me?

                       COLTON
I know how beautiful you are, so I
want to know about the other part.
Who are you Anna? I want to know
everything.

EXT. SIDE WALK BY COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - PORTLAND, OR - NIGHT

A clear evening. A line of street lights shine upon old
buildings. Colton and Anna walk on the sidewalk toward
Colton's apartment.

                       ANNA
Why do men cheat?

                       COLTON
It depends, we're all pigs, that's
for sure. I mean seriously, a
woman wants true love. All we seem
to care about is sex.

                       ANNA
So is that all you care about?

                       COLTON
No, I like it of course. But who
the hell doesn't? I tell you what
I care about. Making sure you
survive this fiasco, both
financially and emotionally.

                       ANNA
So you care about me?

                       COLTON
I guess you could put it that way.

                       ANNA
Why can't every man be as
understanding as you?

                       COLTON
I'm just trying to help you out.

35.

                       ANNA
Why? You don't have too.

                       COLTON
Sometimes people do things because
they want too.

Colton stops in front of an older townhouse. Anna moves her
lips toward Colton's, but he backs away.

                       COLTON
Look, I like you Anna. There's no
sense in hiding it, but you're
still married.

                       ANNA
An eye for an eye, right?

                       COLTON
I don't wanna be with you to get
revenge on Wade. I wanna be with
you if that's what you want.

                       ANNA
But, what if that is what I want?

As the two get lost in each each others eyes, Colton seems
as if he is about to kiss Anna.

Colton takes a step back.

                       COLTON
Well this is my place.

                       ANNA
Aren't you going to invite me in?

                       COLTON
Well now that you suggested it, I
guess it would be rude not to.

Colton and Anna walk up the steps and into the townhouse.

INT. COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

The home is very old, but nicely renovated. Colton stands in
the kitchen with two wine glasses while Anna looks at
pictures on the wall.

Anna notices a picture of Colton when he was a child.

36.

                       ANNA
So, is this you?

Colton walks over to Anna and hands her a wine glass.

                       COLTON
Yeah, that's me.

                       ANNA
You were much cuter then.

                       COLTON
Age has a way of being
unforgiving.

Anna sees a picture of Jessica and Colton around a Christmas
tree.

                       ANNA
Just a sex toy, huh?

                       COLTON
That's all, and a lousy one at
that.

Anna chuckles.

                       COLTON
There it is again, that delightful
smile.

                       ANNA
You're just trying to make me feel
better.

                       COLTON
Is it working?

Anna leans toward Colton.

                       ANNA
Perfectly.

                       COLTON
I would love to kiss you. However,
I'm afraid your kind of still
legally married.

                       ANNA
That's not the reason.

                       COLTON
Than what is the reason?

37.

                       ANNA
The reason is you aren't attracted
to me.

Anna looks down. Colton gently rubs her cheek with his hand
as he lifts her face up.

                       COLTON
There are two words to describe
you Anna.

                       ANNA
And what two words would that be?

                       COLTON
Magnificently Gorgeous.

                       ANNA
      (doubtful)
Oh stop it.

                       COLTON
I want you. And I think I need
you. And I also think you need me.

                       ANNA
I do.

The song "I'll be your baby tonight" plays in the
background. Anna looks down again, but Colton lifts her chin
with his finger.

He then kisses her on the lips. She grasps his neck with her
hands. He pulls her close and they began to passionately
kiss.

LATER

Colton and Anna lie in bed. Colton lies on top of Anna. Anna
is wearing a bra as Colton gently kisses her on the lips and
then gently caresses her forehead.

                       COLTON
      (whispering)
You're so beautiful.

                       ANNA
You don't know how much that means
to me.

Colton kisses her again. Anna then rolls Colton over so that
she is on top. She then slowly unhooks her bra, causing it
to fall onto Colton's stomach.

38.

She then leans down and kisses him. Colton lets his hand
feel her back and then move to her shoulder.

LATER - MORNING

Colton is lying in bed when he suddenly wakes up. He
frantically looks around. He runs to the window and looks at
the street below. Anna stands on the street corner and waves
down a taxi.

                       COLTON
      (shouting)
Anna, Anna.

Colton tries to open his window.

                       COLTON
Shit!

Colton grabs a robe and some slippers. He then runs down the
stairs to the street.

                       COLTON
      (screaming at taxi)
Anna, Anna.

The taxi drives away, as Anna looks through the back window
of the cab at Colton.

                       COLTON
      (to himself)
Dammit!

INT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - DAY

Anna walks through the front door as Wade walks toward her.
Carrie hides in the master bedroom.

                       WADE
Anna, we need to talk.

                       ANNA
      (reluctant)
Okay, but just know that I am
supremely pissed at you.

Wade gently touches Anna's hand and rubs it.

39.

                       WADE
I love you. I fell in love with
you twelve years ago. I asked you
to marry me because I loved you
and I still do.

                       ANNA
      (annoyed)
What's your point?

                       WADE
My point is that I've given you a
wonderful life here. I've given
you a very luxurious life. You
have clothes and cars that no
other man could give you.

                       ANNA
      (more annoyed)
Are you saying that it was okay
for you to cheat on me, because I
have expensive clothes?

                       WADE
No, I'm saying two things. My
whole adult life I've given you
everything. The other thing I'm
saying, is that more people have
had an affair than you think.

                       ANNA
Just because other people have
cheated on their wives, doesn't
mean you're justified.

                       WADE
I'm not saying that. I'm saying
that you have everything you could
ever want and I don't think it
would be wise of you, to get upset
over one little affair.

                       ANNA
One little affair? I can't believe
I'm hearing this.

                       WADE
Yes, one little affair that you're
making a big deal out of for
nothing.

40.

                       ANNA
I shouldn't be getting upset? You
asshole!

Anna slaps Wade across the face.

Wade rubs his face.

                       WADE
Dammit! What the hell did you do
that for?

                       ANNA
      (angry)
If you think I'm just gonna
forgive you, because you give me
money every once in a while,
you're insane.

                       WADE
I have given you everything.

                       ANNA
Eeverything but love.

                       WADE
Don't start that with me.

                       ANNA
True, you gave me material things.
But you never gave me anything
else.

                       WADE
      (screaming)
I want you out of here you bitch.

Anna opens the door.

                       ANNA
      (crying)
No problem!

Anna slams the door.

                       WADE
      (to himself)
Just another ungrateful bitch.

Carrie comes around a corner and approaches Wade.

41.

                       WADE
      (to Carrie)
Looks like we can resume what we
were doing.

                       CARRIE
Good, cause that's exactly what
you deserve.

Carrie kisses Wade.

INT. COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Anna walks through the front door of the office, with a
depressed look on her face. Colton sits at his desk looking
at a bunch of paperwork.

                       COLTON
I didn't expect you to come around
here for a while. I thought you
were regretting what happened last
night.

                       ANNA
Well there was sort of an
incident.

                       COLTON
What kind of an incident?

Anna starts to cry.

                       ANNA
Wade kicked me out.

Colton walks over to Anna and hugs her.

                       ANNA
I just don't know what I'm going
to do. It hit me this is really
happening. It's over. It's been
over.

                       COLTON
Why don't we go somewhere for a
little while. How does that sound?

                       ANNA
It sounds like exactly what I
need.

Anna kisses Colton on the lips.

42.

                       ANNA
And Colton, not one bit of me
regrets one of the best nights of
my life.

                       COLTON
That's a very good thing.

Colton kisses her on the cheek.

FRONT LOBBY OF COLTON'S OFFICE

Colton rushes out of his office, with Anna following close
behind.

                       COLTON
      (yelling)
Snodgrass, cancel all my
appointments for the rest of the
day.

                       SNODGRASS
Why?

                       COLTON
I'll be spending time with this
beautiful woman.

                       ANNA
Bye Snodgrass.

Colton and Anna walk out the door.

INT. CHINESE RESTAURANT - DAY

A typical Chinese restaurant. Colton sits across from Anna.
They both wait for their food.

                       COLTON
Why did you ever marry him?

                       ANNA
At one point in time he was
charming.

                       COLTON
What happened?

                       ANNA
His bank account got as big as his
ego.

43.

                       COLTON
I know lots of people who get rich
and stay married.

                       ANNA
I find that hard to believe.

                       COLTON
Bill and Melinda Gates for
example. They're rich and
perfectly happy.

                       ANNA
Wade isn't like Bill Gates at all.
He would never give to charity.

                       COLTON
If Wade changed so much, what
happened to you?

                       ANNA
I just went with the flow. I
waited for him to get out of his
stage of arrogance, but it never
left him.

                       COLTON
You know what I think?

                       ANNA
What do you think?

                       COLTON
I think you should have done with
him what my marriage counselor
told me to do.

                       ANNA
What's that?

                       COLTON
Rekindle your romance.

                       ANNA
You had a marriage counselor? I
thought you were never married.

                       COLTON
I was, but she was different.

                       ANNA
Different how?

44.

                       COLTON
She never really wanted to listen
or talk for that matter. I tried
to follow the counselors advice,
but she just told me if we never
loved each other before, why would
we now?

                       ANNA
I tried to rekindle my romance
with Wade three years ago.

                       COLTON
What'd you do?

                       ANNA
We went to Hawaii.

                       COLTON
That's a great idea.

                       ANNA
I wish he would of thought so.

                       COLTON
Here's an idea. Me and you go to
Hawaii right now. Just pretend we
don't have lives back here. What
do you say to that?

                       ANNA
We can't just leave.

                       COLTON
Sure we can.

                       ANNA
Look, last night was great. But I
have to deal with my emotional
state before I do something crazy.

                       COLTON
This has nothing to do with last
night. I want you to be happy and
happiness is always found in
Hawaii.

                       ANNA
You're crazy!

                       COLTON
Come on. What would stop you?

45.

                       ANNA
If we do this, do you promise
there will be no strings attached?

                       COLTON
None, not even tied.

                       ANNA
We won't sleep together?

                       COLTON
We can stay in different hotels if
you'd like.

                       ANNA
I can't pay for this. Wade has
control of the money.

                       COLTON
Don't worry, I'll take care of it.

                       ANNA
But, it'll cost a lot of money.

                       COLTON
Don't worry, I just sold my Nike
stock. I made a fortune.

                       ANNA
Paradise does sound nice right
now.

                       COLTON
There you go. What do you say?
Want to be spontaneous?

                       ANNA
Especially if it's with you.

INT. PLANE - DAY

Colton and Anna sit next to each other. Colton has his cell
phone up to his ear.

                       COLTON
Snodgrass, cancel all my
appointments for tomorrow and
Monday too.

Colton hangs up his phone.

46.

                       ANNA
So, do you do this very often?

                       COLTON
Escape work with a beautiful
woman?

                       ANNA
      (smiling)
No, run out of your office and
cancel all your appointments.

                       COLTON
No, so I guess this is a start.

                       ANNA
Well, I'd say it's a good start.

Colton smiles at Anna.

                       COLTON
A great start.

INT. FRONT OF AIRPORT - DAY

Colton loads a few pieces of luggage into a cab. Anna
studies a brochure.

                       ANNA
What are we gonna do while we're
here?

                       COLTON
Don't worry, I have plans.

                       ANNA
You made plans in a few hours?

                       COLTON
Oh I have connections.

                       ANNA
So what am I supposed to do?

Colton opens the cab door as Anna gets in.

                       COLTON
Just enjoy yourself. You're in
paradise.

47.

EXT. HAWAII - DAY

Colton leads Anna through a forested path. Anna's eyes are
closed as she follows Colton. Colton places his hands over
Anna's eyes.

                       ANNA
Can I look yet?

                       COLTON
Not yet.

Colton and Anna stop.

                       COLTON
Okay, now.

Anna opens her eye's and looks around and sees complete
green forest in every direction.

                       ANNA
Wow, where are we?

Colton moves a branch of a palm tree, revealing a luau. A
group of people watch three men dancing around a fire, while
a pig roasts above it.

                       COLTON
Look's like paradise to me.

                       ANNA
      (in awe)
This is amazing.

                       COLTON
Well, let's go down there.

LATER

Colton and Anna are sit at a table with two big plates full
of Hawaiian food in front of them.

                       ANNA
Have you ever been to Hawaii?

                       COLTON
I went to law school here for
three years. My grandparents had a
condo, so I've been here a lot.

                       ANNA
I didn't even know where you went
to law school and I agreed to let
you take me to paradise, let alone
            (MORE)

48.

                       ANNA (cont'd)
be my lawyer.

                       COLTON
I hope you'd consider me more than
just your lawyer?

                       ANNA
Oh I do. So why did you go to
school here?

                       COLTON
I don't know, I was young. In
search of the free life. I had
some damn good times though.

                       ANNA
What did you do when you weren't
in school?

                       COLTON
Got drunk and waited for a tsunami
I guess.

                       ANNA
No, really. What did you do?

                       COLTON
I surfed once or twice.

                       ANNA
Would you teach me?

                       COLTON
Yeah, but I'm rusty so don't
expect much.

                       ANNA
Well it's you, so I don't expect
much at all.

                       COLTON
Now that was harsh.

                       ANNA
What can I do to make it up to
you?

                       COLTON
You could dance with me.

                       ANNA
That sounds easy enough.

49.

Anna and Colton move to the dance floor and begin to dance
beautifully to the song "Blue Hawaii".

                       ANNA
You know, If Wade ever held me
like you do, I probably wouldn't
be here.

                       COLTON
What do you mean?

                       ANNA
If I were ever this happy with
Wade, I'd be in his arms right
now.

                       COLTON
I'm sorry for you it didn't turn
out that way.

                       ANNA
I'm not sorry. It led me here.

                       COLTON
You really think so?

                       ANNA
I know so. Everything happens to
help us make progress. If I
wouldn't have wanted a divorce
from Wade, then we wouldn't be
here.

                       COLTON
I don't know what it is about you,
but you could make any place
paradise.

Anna rests her head on Colton's shoulder.

                       ANNA
Oh, If this could never end.

                       COLTON
I know how you feel.

EXT. BEACH - NIGHT

Anna and Colton walk on the beach as the stars shine bright
on the ocean.

50.

                       ANNA
It's amazing how the ocean is so
loud, but yet so calm.

                       COLTON
It can be a wild beast. It can
also be a great refuge.

                       ANNA
How much time did you spend on the
beach when you lived here?

                       COLTON
Quite a bit.

                       ANNA
So it was a refuge for you?

                       COLTON
Yeah, I loved it here. Sometimes
it just got a little dangerous.

                       ANNA
When you lived here did you ever
know of any surfing accidents?
I've heard those happen and I am
kind of nervous about it.

                       COLTON
Yeah I knew of an accident or two,
but they're very rare. You don't
have anything to be nervous about.
I'll be right beside you.

                       ANNA
That is very comforting.

                       COLTON
Let's go find you seashell!

                       ANNA
I love seashells!

Colton and Anna look at the and on the beach. Colton picks
up a seashell and hands it to Anna.

                       COLTON
That one's perfect!

Colton walks out to the ocean until he is knee deep in
water. As he feels around the bottom of the ocean, Anna
walks up to him and tries to push him over.

51.

He scoops her up in his arms and kisses her. The two play in
the water.

INT. HOTEL ROOM - DAY

Colton and Anna walk into the hotel room. They are both
dripping wet.

                       COLTON
I'll get you a towel.

                       ANNA
I never knew that Hawaii could be
cold.

                       COLTON
Yeah, at least it's not as cold as
the Oregon Coast.

Colton wraps a towel around Anna.

                       ANNA
Nothing is as cold as the Oregon
Coast.

                       COLTON
You want to take a shower first?

                       ANNA
Yeah, I'll be fast.

LATER

Anna sits in a chair wearing a robe. Colton walks toward her
with two glasses of milk.

                       COLTON
Warm milk, my Mother always gave
it to me when I was cold.

                       ANNA
I've never had it.

Anna takes a drink.

                       ANNA
This is awful, even worse than the
cold stuff.

                       COLTON
It got your mind off the cold,
right?

52.

                       ANNA
True.

                       COLTON
I already got the blankets from
the closet for the couch.

                       ANNA
I'll sleep on the couch and you
can have the bed.

                       COLTON
No thanks, that would be rude of
me to make a lady sleep on the
couch.

                       ANNA
Wade's definitely not like you. He
would insist I have the couch.

                       COLTON
Even though you're married?

                       ANNA
Especially cause we're married.

                       COLTON
Well, I'm definitely not like him,
so I'll take the couch.

                       ANNA
Colton?

                       COLTON
Yes?

                       ANNA
Thank you so much. For everything.

                       COLTON
We better get some sleep. We'll
have a fun day tomorrow.

Colton turns the light off and lays down on the couch. Anna
lays down on the bed.

                       COLTON
Anna?

                       ANNA
Yeah Colton.

53.

                       COLTON
Thanks for coming with me.

                       ANNA
No problem.

                       COLTON
The sooner I wake up the sooner I
see your beautiful face again.

                       ANNA
      (to herself)
This is just a dream. Hell, I
couldn't dream up something this
good.

EXT. BALCONY OF HOTEL ROOM - DAY

The balcony is quite small, but you can see the sunrise
awaking the beach. Anna sits on a lounge chair reading a
book. Colton walks up to her with two coffee cups.

                       COLTON
Here.

Colton hands Anna a coffee cup and sits down so that he's
facing her.

                       COLTON
Am I missing something here? I
mean come on we're perfect for
each other. You're married to a
jackass and I've been single
forever, waiting for something.
Now I think I know what for.

                       ANNA
I just don't know what I'm gonna
do about anything.

                       COLTON
Look, the first day I met you
something told me to buy that
dress for you. This was planned by
something out of our control.

                       ANNA
Maybe all of this is a
coincidence.

54.

                       COLTON
Maybe, but it's a great
coincidence. You said it yourself
that things happen to help us make
progress. I just love spending
time with you.

                       ANNA
I like being with you too, I just
need time. Everything is happening
so fast.

                       COLTON
Anna, I think I'm falling in love
with you. I don't know, I've never
felt this way before. It's a burst
of extreme happiness. I mean I
took you to Hawaii out of nowhere.
I just don't do that.

                       ANNA
If everyday was like all the days
we've spent together, then I would
have no problem settling down with
you. I just don't know if I can
make rational decisions right now.

                       COLTON
Well, I'll tell you what. If you
make up your mind come find me.
Rather it's ten years from now or
even twenty, I'll be ready for
you.

                       ANNA
I promise you won't have to wait
long. What do you say we continue
our vacation and just have a good
time?

                       COLTON
Sounds good.

                       ANNA
And Colton.

                       COLTON
Yeah?

                       ANNA
You're the sweetest man I've ever
met.

55.

                       COLTON
I'm just giving you what you've
always deserved.

INT. WAIMEA STORE - DAY

A small store sits a few blocks from the hotel. It has a
mixture of mementos and groceries for sale. The CLERK, a big
Hawaiian man, stands behind the counter.

Anna walks into the small store. She then walks over to a
picture and stares at it, while the clerk watches her.

                       CLERK
You are looking at the two best
surfers on the island.

                       ANNA
This was taken a while ago, huh?

                       CLERK
Thirty years ago.

                       ANNA
You won't believe this, but the
guy on the left looks like who I
came with. Just thirty years
older.

                       CLERK
Probably is. That guy hasn't been
around since that picture was
taken.

                       ANNA
Did you know him?

                       CLERK
He was like a brother to me.

                       ANNA
Why do you think he left?

                       CLERK
The guy on the right was his
surfing buddy. It was also his
younger brother. One time they
went surfing at night on a dare.
His brother hit his head and died
instantly. He never forgave
himself and left the island. I
even heard he gave up surfing.

56.

                       ANNA
I wonder what happened to him.

                       CLERK
Last I heard, he was practicing
law in Oregon or Washington,
somewhere like that.

Anna posses a worried look on her face.

                       ANNA
It was nice to meet you. I'll come
back and buy something a little
later.

                       CLERK
You can come back anytime you
want. I wont even make you buy
anything.

Anna smiles and blushes before walking out of the store.

EXT. BEACH IN FRONT OF HOTEL - DAY

Anna walks up to Colton, who is looking at the ocean.

                       ANNA
There was a lot you didn't tell
me.

Colton keeps looking at the ocean.

                       COLTON
I assume you talked to somebody.

                       ANNA
Yes and you went through something
horrible. And I didn't even know
about it.

Colton looks at Anna.

                       COLTON
Some things I just don't tell
people.

                       ANNA
You lost your brother who was your
best friend. You shouldn't have
given up surfing.

57.

                       COLTON
Well now that you have given me
some advice, why don't you forget
about it?

Colton starts to walk down the beach.

                       ANNA
Are you mad at me?

Anna walks beside Colton.

                       COLTON
Just don't worry about it?

Colton stares at the ground as he slowly walks.

                       ANNA
I'm just saying that if you're not
at peace with your brother's
death, maybe talking about it
would help.

Colton stops.

                       COLTON
No, you don't know anything about
my brother. You don't even know
anything about me. You don't know
what it's like to walk down the
street on a small island and know
everybody blames you for your own
brother's death.

                       ANNA
So you did something stupid and
suggested you go night surfing.
Your brother would want you to
forget about it and move on.

                       COLTON
You didn't even know him and
besides, why do you care?

                       ANNA
I care because I care about you.
Imagining the pain of feeling
responsible. I just couldn't even
imagine. I know you well enough,
that I know you probably blame
yourself. I also know you well
enough to know that it wasn't your
fault.

58.

                       COLTON
Yesterday you said you didn't know
me.

                       ANNA
I know enough to know what a great
person you are.

                       COLTON
You really do care about me?

                       ANNA
Just a little.

                       COLTON
I'm sorry, it's just a tough thing
to talk about.

                       ANNA
I know.

Colton hugs Anna and kisses her on the forehead.

                       ANNA
Why didn't you tell me?

The two start walking down the beach again.

                       COLTON
I don't know Ann. It's not
something I bring up or try to
think about.

                       ANNA
Well, I think you should teach me
how to surf.

                       COLTON
I would love too.

LATER

Both Colton and Anna walk toward the waves carrying surf
boards. They are both knee deep in water.

Colton shows Anna how to surf.

Anna tries, but falls many times before having a successful
run on a wave.

59.

EXT. OCEAN - DAY

Colton and Anna both sit on their surf boards drifting
around. They are in calm waters far from the beach.

                       ANNA
This is so nice. I would never
want to leave it?

                       COLTON
This place can get boring after a
while.

                       ANNA
It's paradise.

                       COLTON
Denali national park in Alaska.
Now that's paradise.

                       ANNA
Sounds cold.

                       COLTON
Your cuddling by a fire with hot
chocolate in your hand, while
another two feet of snow falls on
the most magnificent trees you've
ever seen. Yeah that's paradise
alright.

                       ANNA
You and Jessica went there
together once.

                       COLTON
Yeah, but it wasn't as romantic as
it should have been.

                       ANNA
I think it would be romantic if we
went.

                       COLTON
I'd hope so.

                       ANNA
Did you ever bring Jessica here?

                       COLTON
Nope.

60.

                       ANNA
I want to kiss you. Could I do
that without committing yet?

                       COLTON
I want to kiss you, more than just
about anything. But I know where
that will lead, and I don't want
to go there unless you're
absolutely sure you're ready.

                       ANNA
That's fair.

                       COLTON
I guess we should go back in. It's
getting dark anyways.

The two maneuver their boards toward the beach.

INT. BEDROOM IN HOTEL ROOM - DAY

Colton and Anna stand in the room in their pajamas. Anna
walks up to Colton.

                       COLTON
I guess it's time to get some
sleep.

Anna looks at Colton.

                       ANNA
You know what I wanna do with you
tonight, don't you?

                       COLTON
Yeah, but should we?

The two pause and look into each other's eyes.

Colton kisses Anna on the cheek.

                       COLTON
Good night.

                       ANNA
      (disapointed)
Yeah, good night.

Colton walks over to the couch and lays down while Anna,
gets into the bed.

61.

As the lights go off, Anna lies in bed. Silent tears run
down her face.

LATER

The morning sun peaks through the curtains of the room.

Colton sits in a chair as he watches Anna as she sleeps. He
smiles with satisfaction as if just the sight of her, makes
everything okay.

INT. PORTLAND AIRPORT TERMINAL - DAY

Colton and Anna stand by a cab.

                       COLTON
So, are you glad you went?

                       ANNA
Definitely. It's the going home
part that I'm not glad about.

                       COLTON
If we don't-. Never mind.

                       ANNA
What were you gonna say?

                       COLTON
Just that, well. I don't want this
to end.

                       ANNA
What are you saying?

                       COLTON
I'm saying that, well I want to be
with you again. But for a long
time, not just a weekend.

                       ANNA
Colton this was more fun then I've
ever had, but I just, well. I
don't want it to end either, but
it has too, for a while anyways.

                       COLTON
When will I see you again?

                       ANNA
Eventually.

62.

Anna gets in the cab. Colton watches the cab drive away. He
then turns around. Snodgrass stands in front of him with a
blank look on his face.

                       COLTON
How much of that did you hear?

                       SNODGRASS
Enough to know she broke your
heart. And enough to know that she
won't be back.

                       COLTON
The first one I'll give ya. But as
for the second, she'll be back.
Very soon.

                       COLTON
      (to himself)
I sure in the hell hope so anyway.

                       SNODGRASS
What'd you say?

                       COLTON
Nothing. Why do you even care
about it?

                       SNODGRASS
When someone is depressed around
the office it gets the whole
atmosphere down. I mean Jessica
already is. We don't need another
Debbie downer.

                       COLTON
      (smiling)
She is, huh?

                       SNODGRASS
Yes, very.

                       COLTON
Well, let's go back to work.

INT. COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

TWO WEEKS LATER

Colton sits on his couch, looking at a picture of Anna and
him at the beach.

63.

Colton chugs a glass of wine and stands up. He walks over to
his phone, picks it up and dials a phone number.

                       COLTON
Anna, this is Colton. Please call
back. I've been thinking about it
and you're right about my brother.
Answer the phone, I really need to
see you.

LATER

Colton sits on his couch asleep. He drops a glass of wine
onto the floor.

INT. FRONT LOBBY OF COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Kyder walks up to Jessica, who is behind the desk.

                       KYDER
Is Mr. Sheridan around?

Colton walks out of his office.

                       COLTON
I'm right here. You're that lady
that was with Anna at the store.

Colton's face lights up.

                       KYDER
Yeah, can we talk in private?

                       COLTON
Sure, just come into my office.

Colton leads Kyder down the hall toward his office.

INT. COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Colton walks over to his liquor cabinet.

                       COLTON
You want a drink?

                       KYDER
Sure.

Colton pours two drinks.

64.

                       COLTON
I haven't heard from her for a
while. I was starting to get a
little worried.

Colton hands a glass to Kyder and then sits on the edge of
his desk. Kyder sits on the couch facing him.

                       KYDER
She sent me to tell you that she
wouldn't be needing any paperwork
for her divorce. It's been
post-poned for now.

                       COLTON
Good, I hope they reconcile.

                       KYDER
Do you always lie when you hear
devastating news?

                       COLTON
Sometimes, but this isn't too
devastating. As long as Anna's
happy.

Colton stands up and paces around.

                       KYDER
You sure are taking it well.

                       COLTON
Hey, it's good news, right?

                       KYDER
She told me to have a Kleenex near
by, when I tell you.

                       COLTON
      (laughing)
Really?

                       KYDER
You guys really had something,
didn't you?

                       COLTON
No, I mean nothing beyond attorney
client privilege.

                       KYDER
So every attorney takes their
clients to Hawaii?

65.

Colton shoots Kyder a very serious look.

                       COLTON
There has to be a reason you are
here besides just to discuss my
relationship with Anna.

                       KYDER
You caught me. Colton I am here to
tell you that she is not happy
with Wade and whatever you two
were, the second it ended she went
back to being herself.

                       COLTON
It's good for somebody to be
themselves.

                       KYDER
Not Anna. When I met Anna she was
a very happy, diligent and patient
person.

                       COLTON
And now?

                       KYDER
She uses all of her energy putting
up with and making excuses for
Wade.

                       COLTON
That's her choice. Rather it is a
good one or not.

                       KYDER
I wish you could see the
difference between when she is
with you versus when she's with
Wade. Then maybe you would fight
for her.

                       COLTON
Kyder I would fight for her. Every
bit of me wants to fight for her,
but life is not about fighting.
Life is about living. She needs to
be absolutely sure, I am what she
wants.

                       KYDER
And what about you? Does it matter
what you want?

66.

                       COLTON
I guess what I want is only half
of it. We can want and need all
day long, but we got what we got.
So let's learn to live with it.

                       KYDER
Okay. It's clear that you respect
her and I'm grateful for that. But
please promise me you won't turn
her away because you think you
know what's best for her.

                       COLTON
I can definitely promise you that.

Kyder stands up.

                       KYDER
Well I've said my piece. Thank
you. I just hope on her part
correct decisions are made sooner
rather than later.

Kyder walks out of the office.

Colton stares at his empty glass.

LATER

Colton walks out of his office and approaches Jessica.

                       COLTON
Jessica what are you doing
tonight?

                       JESSICA
I didn't have specific plans.
What's on your mind?

                       COLTON
Dinner and a night cap.

                       JESSICA
Well I have one question then. My
place or your's.

                       COLTON
I'll host since it was my idea.

                       JESSICA
Great.

67.

Colton starts to walk away.

                       JESSICA
Colton I hope this means things
are back to normal.

                       COLTON
I think it does.

Colton walks away while Jessica smiles.

Colton walks into his office while Snodgrass follows him and
closes the door.

                       COLTON
Snodgrass what do you want?

                       SNODGRASS
Two questions. First, why the hell
did you just do that? You were
making so much progress and you
reverted to a stalemate.

                       COLTON
You don't understand what's going
at all.

                       SNODGRASS
You're right it's beyond me. But
I'll tell you what I saw. I saw a
beautiful woman come in these
doors a while ago and then I saw
you dancing around and being full
of hope. Then I saw her come back
and she was acting the same way.
And after all of that, I see you
moping over to Jessica looking for
something to remove yourself from
your harsh reality.

                       COLTON
In other words you think I'm
desperate.

                       SNODGRASS
In other words I know that what
you did was pathetic. Just go find
Anna and make life good again.
Please?

68.

                       COLTON
It's not that simple and if it's
meant to be it will be. Now what
was your second question?

                       SNODGRASS
Did you put in a good word for me,
for the blonde that was here
earlier?

Colton stares at some paperwork.

                       COLTON
Bye Snodgrass.

Snodgrass makes a depressed sound as he walks away.

INT. COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

Colton and Jessica lie awake in Colton's bed with the covers
covering them. Jessica smokes a cigar. The two appear very
relaxed.

                       JESSICA
It's about time things got back to
normal.

                       COLTON
Agreed. I feel like five years of
stress was just wiped away.

                       JESSICA
You know for the past few weeks I
thought you had given up on me.

                       COLTON
Given up?

                       JESSICA
Well you hadn't made any passes at
me. I thought you figured I'd
never settle down, so that
sensitive side of you went to find
an actual future with someone.

                       COLTON
You don't think we have an actual
future?

                       JESSICA
Colton this is R and R. You know
that. Vacation is fun, but months
of it would be hell. I couldn't
            (MORE)

69.

                       JESSICA (cont'd)
even imagine a lifetime.

                       COLTON
So that's it. We keep loving with
know heart in mind.

                       JESSICA
It's worked out so far. And you?
Are gonna try to mess up the
system again?

                       COLTON
I guess we got a good thing, so I
don't plan on ruining it.

                       JESSICA
There we go.

A knock is heard on the front door.

                       COLTON
I'm gonna get that.

Colton gets up and puts a robe on.

                       JESSICA
Oh please hurry back.

He then walks to the front door and opens it. Anna stands in
the doorway.

                       COLTON
      (shocked)
Anna, I'm glad to see you.

                       ANNA
Is there a problem?

Colton looks behind his shoulder.

                       COLTON
No! I mean, why are you here?

                       ANNA
Do you want me to leave?

                       COLTON
No, not at all, but I thought we
were waiting for you to figure out
some things.

70.

                       ANNA
Well I figured some things out. I
left, but I realized I want to be
with you all the time. I'm finally
going to leave Wade for real this
time.

                       COLTON
That makes me so happy. I, I love
you.

Anna kisses Colton on the lips. Jessica sneezes in the
background.

                       ANNA
What the hell was that?

                       COLTON
I've been so miserable without you
these last few weeks. I mean
miserable and desperate.

Anna pushes the door open and walks toward Colton's bedroom.
She sees Jessica lying in the bed.

                       ANNA
So you just reverted back to this?

                       JESSICA
I have a name.

                       ANNA
      (fake)
Oh sorry, I didn't mean to be so
impolite.

Anna starts walking away.

                       COLTON
Anna, please don't.

Anna turns around.

                       ANNA
I'm done with this. I need someone
that is ready for me. I need
someone who needs me and not some
booty call.

                       JESSICA
      (loudly)
Again, I have a name.

71.

Anna opens the front door.

                       COLTON
Anna, please. She means nothing to
me.

Anna turns around and slaps Colton's face.

                       ANNA
You don't know how many times I've
heard that before. Asshole!

Anna runs away. Colton rubs his face and shakes his head.

Colton walks back inside. Jessica is still lying in the bed.

                       JESSICA
Come back to bed Colton. I know
how to make you feel better.

                       COLTON
Please leave Jessica.

                       JESSICA
Come on, she's gone. Let's have a
little fun.

                       COLTON
I don't think you get it. Things
are not back to normal. They never
will be.

                       JESSICA
Yes it can be. And you're right
this means nothing. So just come
back to bed.

                       COLTON
I'm serious. You should leave.

                       JESSICA
Fine.

Jessica stands up and angrily gets dressed.

INT. BAR - DAY

Colton sits at a bar drinking shots of whiskey. The song
"I've hurt her more then she loves me" plays in the
background.

Snodgrass walks in and sits beside Colton.

72.

                       SNODGRASS
I assume it's bad.

                       COLTON
More like awfull.

                       SNODGRASS
Is she gone for good?

                       COLTON
Yeah, but there's nothing good
about it.

                       SNODGRASS
I won't say I told you so.

                       COLTON
You just did.

                       SNODGRASS
Look, I don't know what love is.
But I do know one thing. And that
is that you would never leave your
office to go to Hawaii
spontaneously. Maybe it's not
love, but whatever you feel for
this girl, don't let her get away.

                       COLTON
Thank you Snodgrass. I think
that's the first time you said
something I ever completely agreed
with.

                       SNODGRASS
Probably. And you can thank me by
getting her back. It will make our
lives at the office much easier.

INT. FRONT LOBBY OF COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Jessica is sitting at the front desk when Kyder walks in.

                       KYDER
Is Colton here?

                       JESSICA
You mean Mr. Sheridan?

                       KYDER
This is a social call, not a
client meeting.

73.

                       JESSICA
Whatever, he's not here. His
associate, Snodgrass is here.

                       KYDER
I guess I'll just talk to him.

                       JESSICA
He's in the office across from
Colton's.

                       KYDER
Which one's your's?

                       JESSICA
There are only two offices.

                       KYDER
That's telling.

Jessica looks disgusted as Kyder walks away.

SNODGRASS'S OFFICE

As Kyder enters the office Snodgrass is reading a book. He
drops the book and looks up at her.

                       SNODGRASS
      (in awe)
Hello.

                       KYDER
Do you mind if I sit down?

                       SNODGRASS
Please, I mean yes.

                       KYDER
Could you hand this to Colton?

Kyder hands Snodgrass an envelope.

                       SNODGRASS
Sure. May I ask what it is?

                       KYDER
It's a note that my friend Anna
wrote to me on how she feels about
Colton.

                       SNODGRASS
Well I hope it's positive.

74.

                       KYDER
Very much so. I'm trying to get
them back together. They are the
perfect fit. They're hopeless
without each other.

                       SNODGRASS
That's what I've been saying.

                       KYDER
We need to make this happen.

                       SNODGRASS
      (excited)
Together?

                       KYDER
      (awkwardly)
Yes, that's what I mean't. Are you
attracted to me or something?

                       SNODGRASS
Yes, very. I don't mean to be
forward, but I can't help but tell
the truth.

                       KYDER
You chose the wrong career.

                       SNODGRASS
      (flustered)
Yes, I did. So what kind of jobs
do your boyfriends do? Not to
insinuate that you get around. But
if you wanted to you could. But,
so what brings you here?

                       KYDER
A lot of men are not attracted to
me.

                       SNODGRASS
They are blind.

Snodgrass awkwardly laughs. Kyder unbuttons her rain coat.

                       KYDER
I think it's the whole dumb blonde
routine. It's not like I do it on
purpose.

75.

                       SNODGRASS
Well I think being smart is
overrated. I mean I graduated law
school at the top of my class, a
record I.Q. and I don't know a
thing about love.

                       KYDER
Well I don't know anything about
love either and I'm dumb. What
does that make me?

                       SNODGRASS
Very likable, but you're not dumb.

                       KYDER
I know a lot about the law, well
whatever Legally Blond teaches
you.

                       SNODGRASS
I love that movie!

Kyder stands up and locks the office door.

                       SNODGRASS
Whoa, wait a second.

Kyder takes off her coat revealing a modest but attractive
outfit.

Kyder walks over to a wine cabinet and opens the bottom
cupboard. She bends over and examines the bottles.

                       KYDER
      (referring to
       bottle)
Shall we?

                       SNODGRASS
That bottle cost ten thousand
dollars. It's only for our high
paying customers.

                       KYDER
I think I'll end up being more
than just a customer.

Kyder seductively smiles.

                       SNODGRASS
I'm going to pinch myself to see
if this is a dream.

76.

Snodgrass pinches himself.

                       SNODGRASS
Ouch! Nope, Not a dream. Let's
resume to wherever we were headed.

Kyder approaches Snodgrass, grips his face and aggressively
kisses him.

INT. MALL - DAY

Kyder and Anna walk through a department store.

                       KYDER
Do you remember what happened here
last time we were together?

                       ANNA
Yeah, a whirlwind romance swept me
up and dropped me on my heart.

                       KYDER
Anna I don't understand your
thinking. You found a great guy
and you just run away from him.

                       ANNA
I didn't run. He ran, back to his
secretary bimbo.

                       KYDER
Yeah because he's a man. Because
you made him loose hope. We both
know how you feel about him. Just
do the best thing for you and him
and dump Wade and run off with
your night and shining armor.

                       ANNA
It's not that easy. I committed to
Wade. I really think he needs me
and I think we can salvage
something.

                       KYDER
Wade can't even salvage himself.
I'm just saying if you want to be
happy, you should-.

77.

                       ANNA
Enough. Let's talk about your
life. What are you doing to be
happy?

                       KYDER
I'm seeing someone. Someone far
different than anyone I've ever
seen before.

                       ANNA
      (laughing)
Who? Colton's fellow attorney?

                       KYDER
Actually yes.

                       ANNA
Seriously? I knew he would have a
crush on you.

                       KYDER
Well I like him too. It works
well. He respects my opinion not
just my body.

                       ANNA
Well than I'm very happy for you.

INT. COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Colton sits at his desk when Snodgrass walks in.

                       COLTON
What's going on?

                       SNODGRASS
Something came for you the other
day.

Snodgrass throws an envelope on the desk.

                       SNODGRASS
It's from Kyder. It's how Anna
feels about you.

                       COLTON
Did Anna want me to read it?

                       SNODGRASS
Kyder never said.

78.

                       COLTON
Well thanks for dropping it off.

                       SNODGRASS
Are you gonna read it?

                       COLTON
No.

                       SNODGRASS
Why not?

                       COLTON
Snodgrass just leave.

                       SNODGRASS
Fine. I bet you read it though.

Snodgrass walks out of the office. Colton studies some
papers and occasionally glances over at the envelope. He
then throws it in the garbage.

Colton sits down and resumes his paperwork. He pauses and
stares at the garbage. He then stands up. He paces around
the room for a few seconds.

He sees the pictures of him and Jessica and turns them over.
He paces for a few more seconds and then runs over to the
garbage and grabs the envelope.

He quickly sits down. He then opens the envelope, pulls out
a paper and reads it.

INSERT PAPER, WHICH READS:

                       PAPER
As I think of Colton I can only
think of how wonderful I feel.
I've been through so much over the
years and it's like fate pulled me
right to him. When I'm around him
I feel complete, when I'm with
Wade I feel empty. Gosh he makes
me feel so good.

Colton places the letter down and grabs his keys. He exits
the office and walks down the hallway. Snodgrass peaks out
of his office.

                       SNODGRASS
Told you you'd read it.

Colton smiles as he walks away.

EXT. DOWNTOWN SHOP - DAY

Colton drives down the street to Wade and Anna's penthouse.
He pulls up beside the building. He takes off his seat belt
and pauses.

Wade and Anna walk down the street holding hands, smiling
and laughing. Colton's face turns to absolute despair.

Wade and Anna walk in the building as Colton puts his seat
belt back on.

EXT. FRONT OF COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

Anna approaches Colton's townhouse. Colton sits on the steps
full of disappointment. He notices her and immediately perks
up.

                       COLTON
Anna!

                       ANNA
I'm so glad to see you.

                       COLTON
I feel the same way about you.
What's going on?

                       ANNA
I have a lot going on in my mind
right now. I just want to talk to
you because I trust you and I
think that you'll understand more
than anyone.

                       COLTON
Go for it. I'm here for you.

Anna sits down beside Colton.

                       ANNA
Here it goes. I overreacted and
I'm sorry. Part of me wants to be
with you, no question about it. I
just don't know what to do.

                       COLTON
What part of you wants to be with
me?

80.

                       ANNA
Every part sometimes. I don't
know. I like you Colton, more than
anyone. But I'm confused. I have a
place in my heart for Wade. I
think he can change.

                       COLTON
You've been with him along time.
You probably should follow your
heart. But I can tell you this; No
matter what you do or where you
go, I will always be right here,
ready for whatever you choose.

                       ANNA
That means so much.

                       COLTON
If you want to try to save your
marriage, you do it.

                       ANNA
So it's over, for now?

                       COLTON
I would prefer to think it's on
pause. We'll see.

                       ANNA
This is so tough.

                       COLTON
It's because it's real. It's about
feeling and where we go tomorrow.
It's about everything.

                       ANNA
Why aren't you chasing me? How can
you be so patient when it's clear
how you feel?

                       COLTON
I don't want to be selfish. Anna I
love you. I will always love you.
But how I feel is one part of the
equation. You need to feel right.
It's needs to be your choice. I
don't want you for one moment to
think I took advantage of a
vulnerable situation in order to
be with the perfect woman.

81.

                       ANNA
Where did you come from?

                       COLTON
I came from your destiny. I just
hope I'm in your future.

Colton stands up.

                       ANNA
Oh you will be, in one way or
another.

Colton smiles. He starts to walk into his townhouse and
stops.

                       ANNA
Coloton, will you miss me?

                       COLTON
I'm going to go into my townhouse
and think about you. I'll do that
every night and day of the rest of
my life. Now does that answer your
question?

Anna runs up to him and kisses him. They look into each
other's eyes.

                       ANNA
Goodnight Colton.

                       COLTON
Goodnight Anna.

Colton pauses, looks at Anna with desperation and then walks
into his townhouse.

After he shuts the door Anna sighs in disappointment.

EXT. FIELD - DAY

A lush green field on a large farm makes for a beautiful
sunny afternoon. Two horses carrying riders, race through
the field.

Kyder and Snodgrass ride through the field on their horses.

LATER

Kyder and Snodgrass sit on a blanket in the grass while
partaking of a picnic lunch.

82.

                       KYDER
This is perfect. What a great
idea.

                       SNODGRASS
They say this farm is a favorite
for lovers.

                       KYDER
And that's what we are.

The two kiss.

                       SNODGRASS
You know it's sad about Colton and
Anna, but at least it brought us
together.

                       KYDER
That's exactly what I was
thinking. Way to think so
positively. Why don't people do
that anymore?

                       SNODGRASS
I agree. Everyone is so negative.
It's like no one has anything to
be happy about.

                       KYDER
We sure have something to be happy
about.

                       SNODGRASS
That we do.

Snodgrass kisses Kyder.

INT. DR. HARDIN'S OFFICE - DAY

Dr. HARDIN sits behind a desk in a chair. A marriage
counselor by trade, he's in his mid thirties and has brown
hair. Both Wade and Anna sit facing him.

                       DR. HARDIN
So, what's your biggest marital
problem?

                       ANNA
He cheated on me.

83.

                       DR. HARDIN
You say that fast, as if your
confidence has been damaged. Has
it?

                       ANNA
Of course. I feel like I've been
stabbed in the heart.

                       WADE
Can I get a word in? I think we're
jumping to conclusions. I gave
this woman every dime she wanted
and then some. On top of all this
I had a measly affair.

Anna sighs in annoyance.

                       DR. HARDIN
I doubt Anna would describe it as
measly.

                       ANNA
Oh, I wouldn't and there were
probably more.

                       DR. HARDIN
Look, I suggest you two do
something in an effort to rekindle
the romance in your relationship.
Obviously Wade is not getting
something from you and has to go
outside the marriage to get it.

                       WADE
      (to Anna)
See it is all your fault.

                       DR. HARDIN
No, it definitely is not all her
fault. However, she could improve
on a few things. With a lot of
work and a little progress, you'll
both be back on track very soon.

                       ANNA
      (stressed)
Sure.

                       DR. HARDIN
Is that not what you want?

84.

                       ANNA
No, it is what I want.

                       WADE
Are you sure?

                       ANNA
      (reluctant)
Yes.

INT. COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

Colton lies on his couch, drinking a glass of whiskey. He
stares at a picture of Anna and him at the beach. He then
sits up and rubs his face.

                       COLTON
      (to himself)
Why'd you have to let her go? Why
the hell did you let her go?

INT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - NIGHT

The song "Dream a little dream of me", plays on a stereo.
Anna is cuddled up in a chair in the penthouse's study.

As it rains outside she listens to a seashell, drinks warm
milk and softly cries.

                       ANNA
      (to herself)
Why did I ever leave him?

INT. COLTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Colton is sits in his office drinking a glass of whiskey.

Snodgrass walks in the office.

                       SNODGRASS
Why don't you call her?

                       COLTON
Why don't you mind your own
bussiness?

                       SNODGRASS
Because you're so damn depressed.

85.

                       COLTON
Well I didn't ask you to bring her
up, so don't feel the urge to do
it again.

                       SNODGRASS
Is it beacuse you can't compete?

                       COLTON
Snodgrass what are you even
talking about?

                       SNODGRASS
Well it's just that her husband is
a major player in the financial
market. In other words he's
loaded.

                       COLTON
I don't need a financial
evaluation of him. And no, I'm
definitely not competeing with
him.

                       SNODGRASS
Oh it has nothing to do with
competition. That's just another
word for it.

                       COLTON
I know I'm gonna regret this, but
another word for what?

                       SNODGRASS
Human nature.

                       COLTON
Human nature?

                       SNODGRASS
Yeah, it is natural for the
dominant male to worry that the
female will stick with their
familiar territory.

                       COLTON
Take your National Geographic crap
and get out of here.

                       SNODGRASS
At least I said you were the
dominate one, considering in some
aspects you're not.

86.

                       COLTON
Why don't you go back to work?

                       SNODGRASS
One more thing.

                       COLTON
What?

                       SNODGRASS
I would really like it if you
would see Jessica for your usual
monthly appointment. Your over due
and I think it would relieve some
stress.

                       COLTON
Why are you so involved with my
personal life?

                       SNODGRASS
Because combined with your moping
around about Anna, and Jessica's
complaining about you guy's not
getting it on, I can't think
strait. I mean one of you
complaining is bad enough, but
both.

                       COLTON
Aren't you in love?

                       SNODGRASS
Yeah.

                       COLTON
Than go love her and worry about
yourself.

                       SNODGRASS
Whatever, I'm just trying to
improve the tone around here.

Snodgrass walks out of the office.

EXT. DOWNTOWN PORTLAND - NIGHT

SIX MONTHS LATER

The city skyline is lit up along the river. Fireworks shoot
into the night sky.

87.

Kyder and Snodgrass watch the fireworks in each other's
arms.

Snodgrass gets on one knee and puts a ring on Kyder's
finger. The two kiss.

INT. CAFE - DAY

A small downtown breakfast cafe. Kyder and Anna sit at a
table facing each other. Anna examines Kyder's ring.

                       ANNA
That is a big rock.

                       KYDER
I know, right? I'm so happy and in
love.

                       ANNA
Kyder I'm so happy for you.

                       KYDER
What about you? How have you and
Wade been?

                       ANNA
We've been good. It's been tough
to trust him and make sacrifices,
but he really is making an effort.

                       KYDER
That's great to hear!

                       ANNA
Now we have so much to plan. Let's
start with the engagement party.

                       KYDER
Would it be too awkward if Colton
was there?

                       ANNA
Kyder we haven't seen each other
for six months. It will be fine.
We're always going to be great
friends.

                       KYDER
Good I just don't want anything to
be too weird.

88.

                       ANNA
I don't think you have anything to
worry about.

INT. COLTON'S TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT

Jessica and Colton sit on the couch in the living room.

                       JESSICA
I brought some white wine for
tonight.

Colton ignores Jessica.

                       JESSICA
Did you here me? I said I brought
some white wine.

                       COLTON
Yeah, I heard you. I was just
thinking about something else.

                       JESSICA
Another woman?

                       COLTON
No, no. Just thinking about how
it's been fun to spend time with
you.

                       JESSICA
Good, cause I think we should
spend more time together.

                       COLTON
What did you have in mind?

                       JESSICA
A more permanent relationship.

Colton perks up.

                       COLTON
You're right. We should have a
more permanent relationship.

                       JESSICA
Good.

Colton kisses Jessica.

89.

                       JESSICA
Let's celebrate this idea.

                       COLTON
Now that's a damn good idea.

The two continue kissing.

INT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - DAY

Wade and Anna walk in to the apartment. Wade's cell phone
starts ringing.

                       WADE
I have to answer this.

Wade takes his cell phone out of his pocket and answers it.

INT. WADE'S OFFICE - DAY

JIM stands in the office with the phone up to his ear. He is
in his late fifties, dressed in a suit, smoking a cigar.

INT. INTER CUT-TELEPHONE CONVERSATION - DAY

                       WADE
This is wade.

                       JIM
Wade this is Jim. We got a big
problem, the Dow is down and our
investors are calling non stop.

                       WADE
Look, if it was any other night
I'd be there, but me and Anna have
special plans.

                       JIM
I know, which is why I hate to ask
you, but I need you.

                       WADE
Come on Jim, give me a break here
will you?

                       JIM
I need you here. It's that simple.

90.

                       WADE
      (annoyed)
Fine, I'll be there in twenty,
thirty minutes.

                       JIM
Thanks, pal.

                       WADE
Yeah.

Jim hangs up the phone followed by Wade.

INT. WADE'S PENTHOUSE - DAY

Wade and Anna stand in the entryway.

                       WADE
I'm so sorry. If I had anyway out
of this I would.

                       ANNA
Yeah, sure.

                       WADE
Hey gorgeous, it's alright. Look,
pour us some wine and put
something sexy on. Then we'll make
love and talk. Or whatever you're
into. How does that sound?

                       ANNA
Great.

                    &nbs
