INT. CHURCH - DAY

ROSE, 20's, prays solemnly in a pew. She lifts her head from
her prayer and reveals a pleasant, sincere face that is
nonetheless dominated by a pair of battle-worn eyes.

The young woman stands to leave and is approached by a MAN
with a collection basket. Rose smiles politely and opens her
purse.

EXT. VARIOUS ESTABLISHING SHOTS - DAY

Mundane vistas of a generic metropolis descend rapidly into
a series of seedy angles on liquor stores, strip clubs, etc.

EXT. THRIFT STORE - DAY

Rose strolls down the sidewalk. She smiles at a STREET
PERFORMER playing flute for a paraplegic man, RYAN, 20's,
just outside the storefront.

                       ROSE
Who's watching the register?

Ryan notices Rose; drops some loose dollar bills into the
performer's jar.

                       RYAN
      (to the performer)
Thanks for the show, bro.

Ryan rolls his wheelchair over to Rose. His hair is unkempt,
his face unshaven, but there is an endearing quality to his
manner. Rose kisses his forehead.

                       RYAN
Sorry, babe, I just came out for a
second. You know how business has
been lately, anyway.

INT. THRIFT STORE - DAY

Rose and Ryan enter.

                       ROSE
Has it been as bad as yesterday?

2.

                       RYAN
      (sarcastic)
No! Guess what, Ms. Rose? I
actually saw two whole people come
in today!

                       ROSE
Amazing!

                       RYAN
And one of them even bought that
old army jacket!

                       ROSE
Well, we must be rollin' in the
dough now.

Rose pops open the register. A single check sits in the
tray. They give the sarcasm an ominous rest.

                       RYAN
And they paid for their ten dollar
purchase with a check. Who pays
by check anymore?

                       ROSE
Did the landlords call today? They
said they would before noon.

                       RYAN
Not yet. But I think --

The jingling bell over the front door interrupts, announcing
the entrance of a patron. The slinky figure of a woman in
business attire lingers mysteriously in the doorway.

                       RYAN
Welcome. Looking for anything in
particular?

The woman steps forward, bringing forth an attache case.
She's DEVILON, 30's: exotic, self-assured, petite yet
powerful. Rose freezes in shock, jaw hung open.

                       DEVILON
Afternoon, Rose. He needs to see
you.

Rose fights through her initial surprise; returns Devilon's
firm gaze with a leer of her own.

                       RYAN
Wh-- Do you... You know her, babe?

3.

                       DEVILON
Either you come with me to see him
now, or he'll come and find you on
his own. And you know how he can
be when his wishes aren't
immediately respected.

Rose's hands find a baseball bat behind the register.

                       ROSE
Not now, Devilon.

                       RYAN
Rose, what is this? Who is she?

Ryan begins to perspire; his arms shake involuntarily. Rose
steps from behind the register with her bat.

                       DEVILON
He wants to see you. I wouldn't
ignore this.

                       ROSE
I'll see him, just not now.
Please.

                       DEVILON
When can he expect you?

                       ROSE
Soon.

Ryan's shaking intensifies. His face is flushed red.

                       RYAN
R-Rose...?!

                       DEVILON
Be more specific.

                       ROSE
I said soon! Leave!
      (to Ryan)
Ryan, I'm getting your pills,
honey.

Rose moves back behind the register and shuffles through the
mess on the counter, searching.

                       DEVILON
Don't you want to see what's in
the case?

4.

                       ROSE
I know what's in the case, just
leave! I'll be there. I'll find
him. Just get the fuck out!

Ryan chokes and spews a quart of VOMIT on the floor.

                       ROSE
Shit!

Rose finds a pill bottle amongst the mess and rushes to
Ryan's side.

                       DEVILON
Well, you know him better than I
do. Still, I suggest you make your
way to the estate no later than
tomorrow. It's been a long time,
Rose. I'd hate to see him call off
the reunion before it even gets
started.

Devilon leaves. Rose holds Ryan's trembling body in her
arms.

INT. ROSE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Rose opens a lock box on her bed. She lifts the empty cash
tray out of the box, revealing a pistol hidden underneath.
She field-strips the firearm, and then reassembles it just
as quickly, slamming the magazine in as she finishes.

INT. ROSE'S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Ryan is parked in front of the television, drinking a beer.
Enter Rose.

                       ROSE
... Honey, I'm going to be gone
for a little bit.

                       RYAN
What? Where the hell are you going
at this hour.

                       ROSE
Church. There's a mass --

                       RYAN
Church? Are you serious? I'm
supposed to believe that?

5.

                       ROSE
I am.

                       RYAN
You don't say a word to me all
damn day after that woman--

                       ROSE
Ryan, please!

                       RYAN
Ryan, please what? What was that
today? You're treating me like a
damn child, not telling me what
the hell's going on. I get treated
like a vegetable every day of my
life in this damn chair, and now
you're going to treat me like
that, too?!

                       ROSE
Please, trust me.

                       RYAN
Trust what? You haven't said a
word. Where are you going in the
middle of the night?

                       ROSE
... To church.

                       RYAN
Bullshit! Church? I prayed every
night I was stationed in Iraq, and
this is the response I got.
      (slaps his legs)
What do you go to church for?

                       ROSE
I like it. It's peaceful. It helps
me.

                       RYAN
Well, this is what God gave your
boyfriend. Tell God Ryan says
thanks when you see him tonight.

Ryan, swigging his beer, turns away and stares at the T.V.

                       ROSE
You're drinking again.

No answer.

6.

                       ROSE
Ryan...?

                       RYAN
... Aren't you going to be late
for mass?

Rose leaves.

INT. ROSE'S CAR - MOVING - NIGHT

Rose pushes the speed limit, one hand on the steering
wheel... and the other deftly twirls a jackknife.

INT. BAR - NIGHT

Noisy. Crowded. Devilon's at the bar, flirting with a flock
of drunk men. The front door swings open, catching her
attention: it's Rose - all business. Devilon smiles.

INT. HALLWAY - NIGHT

Devilon and a BODYGUARD escort Rose toward a door. They stop
short.

                       DEVILON
      (to the bodyguard)
Search her.

The bodyguard runs his hands over Rose's person and
confiscates her jackknife.

                       DEVILON
That's what I thought. Be nice,
Rose.

Devilon leads them through the door.

INT. BOB'S OFFICE - NIGHT

Two more BODYGUARDS stand at attention inside. Music from
the bar is muffled. A single drugged woman dances
continuously in one corner.

A sizeable MAN watches a bank of monitors feeding live video
from the bar in the center of the room.

                       DEVILON
Bob...?

7.

BOB, 50's, turns from the monitors and sees Rose. He has a
sprinkling of white powder around his nostrils.

                       BOB
Rose... Baby... We weren't
expecting you yet.

Devilon and the first bodyguard force Rose into a chair. Bob
cleans his nose.

                       ROSE
Why am I here?

                       BOB
I need you, baby. I need my little
killer.

                       ROSE
I thought we had an understanding.
This city's big enough for the
both of us. And I'm happy now.

                       BOB
But I miss you. We miss you.

                       ROSE
You don't miss me. You said you
needed me, and I don't do what you
need from me anymore.

                       BOB
Oh, and what are you so happy
about in your "normal" life? Your
happy life? That cripple?

Rose leaps out of her seat to leave; Devilon and the
bodyguard throw her back down in the chair.

                       BOB
Sit down! I'm asking for your
help.

Rose is livid. Bob reveals the attache case Devilon held in
the store.

                       BOB
Is money so easy for you to come
by these days? Is the simple life
that comfortable? If so, why are
you here?

8.

                       ROSE
I was afraid of what you would do
if I made you come find me.

                       BOB
Well, that was smart. Knocking off
that legless boyfriend of yours
would have been fish in a barrel.

                       ROSE
Get to the point!

                       BOB
Puerto Ricans are selling cocaine
now, too. Supposed to all be good
Catholics, but they're selling it
by churches. These people have no
shame. And they're killing my men,
Rosey. Everyone I send at 'em.

                       ROSE
You were supposed to leave me
alone.

                       BOB
I need you, Rose. You're the best.

                       ROSE
Oh, like mom was before you --

                       BOB
How dare you! Look, I need you to
knock off one guy for me, sweetie.
One man, and then the spics will
calm down and realize what's what,
and our war will end.

Rose just leers at Bob.

                       BOB
Devilon will give you the intel.
You do this for me, and daddy will
leave you alone for the rest of
your life. I promise this time. If
you don't, I'll kill the paralyzed
gimp you're living in sin with. I
promise that, too.

Bob nods to his henchmen. Devilon and the bodyguard pull
Rose from her seat and drag her out of the room.

EXT. PARKING LOT - NIGHT

Rose is escorted to her car by Devilon and the bodyguard.
The music from the bar is faintly audible from across the
street.

                       DEVILON
Our man here will be tailing you
home, so don't get any ideas.
We'll be picking you up from there
in the morning, bright and early.

Rose gets into her car. The bodyguard breaks away from the
women to find his own vehicle.

                       DEVILON
You know, I envy you. Somewhat.
Your father poured a lot of time
and money into turning you into
the machine you are. It's a gift.

Rose scoffs.

                       ROSE
Yeah, it was a wonderful
childhood.

                       DEVILON
He's a borderline genius.

                       ROSE
He's a coke-head.

Devilon smirks and returns the confiscated jackknife.

                       DEVILON
We'll see you tomorrow, Rose. Are
we understood?

Rose rolls her eyes, mashes the ignition, and peels out.

INT. ROSE'S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Enter Rose. Ryan is passed out in his wheelchair, surrounded
by empty beer bottles, the T.V. still on.

INT. ROSE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Rose kneels at her bedside, praying with a rosary.

10.

INT. ROSE'S LIVING ROOM - DAY

Morning breaks. A clock on the wall says it's 6 AM. Ryan's
empty beer cans still litter the area. But not Ryan.

INT. ROSE'S BATHROOM - DAY

Ryan, hungover, lays across the tile, his head over the
toilet, his wheelchair cast aside.

INT. ROSE'S BEDROOM - DAY

A thick, black silencer is deftly screwed onto the barrel of
Rose's pistol. Ryan's puking is audible from the bathroom.

EXT. ROSE'S HOUSE - DAY

A dark vehicle pulls up with Devilon and the bodyguard
inside.

INT. ROSE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

The sounds of Ryan dry heaving prevail. Over that, Rose
hides an assortment of blades in her attire; stuffs the gun
in her jacket; covers her fingerprints with gloves.

The car horn HONKS twice outside. Rose exits.

INT. ROSE'S BATHROOM - DAY

Rose stands in the doorway until she attracts Ryan's
attention.

                       ROSE
... I love you, OK?

Ryan stares at her, dumbfounded. The horn HONKS again. Rose
leaves.

INT. DEVILON'S VEHICLE - MOVING - NIGHT

Bodyguard driving; Devilon shotgun; Rose backseat.

                       DEVILON
When Bob said he needed you, Rose,
he meant he needed your skills for
operating in public places. Our
target likes to jog. He's a health
            (MORE)

11.

                       DEVILON (cont'd)
nut, very into his image. We're
going to the park. You need to be
a fellow jogger today, and then,
after you strike, a ghost. There
is no plan B.

Rose stares pensively out the window.

                       ROSE
I've never needed one before.

Devilon snickers.

                       DEVILON
Same ol' Rose.

EXT. PUBLIC PARK - DAY

An expansive plot of green grass and mazes of dirt pathway,
flecked all over with trees of varying size. Devilon's car
is parked in the foreground.

INT. DEVILON'S VEHICLE - DAY

                       DEVILON
There. Look. That's him.

Devilon points out the windshield to a lone jogger in the
distance.

                       ROSE
How do you know?

                       DEVILON
I know what he looks like. That's
Mr.Salazar. Start jogging. Get
close. He's a big Puerto Rican
with a big tattoo on his neck. How
hard is that to pick out?

                       ROSE
He's alone?

                       DEVILON
I don't see anyone else out here.
Got your famous knives?

Rose flashes one of her blades.

12.

                       DEVILON
Go slit his throat, and we can go
home. We'll be parked across the
street on the other side of the
park. Is there anything else you
need?

Rose ignores her and gets out of the car.

EXT. PARK PATHWAY - DAY

MR. SALAZAR, 30's, tattoo on his neck, jogs at a steady pace
with his earbuds in.

DOWN THE PATHWAY

Rose starts jogging after him.

PARK EXIT

Devilon and the bodyguard drive off the premises.

PARK PATHWAY

Salazar cuts down a path flanked by trees... Rose approaches
and nonchalantly follows him.

She gets closer... he subtly increases speed.

Rose jogs up to Salazar and smiles. He smiles back. She sees
the tattoo on his neck.

INT. DEVILON'S VEHICLE - DAY

Parked on a street corner adjacent to the park. Both Devilon
and the bodyguard are antsy.

                       DEVILON
He needs to hurry up. Listen for
the low pop. He has a silencer.

EXT. PARK PATHWAY - DAY

Mr. Salazar and Devilon jog next to each other, a distance
between them. They both slow a bit. Rose reaches into her
jacket and pulls her pistol... Salazar PULLS A GUN of his
own from his waistband.

Both assassins misfire and rush away from each other.

13.

Rose finds cover behind a tree. She peeks around... POP! A
silenced bullet takes a chunk of bark.

Rose peeks around the other side and fires twice at random.
FOOTSTEPS pound the grass, moving away - Salazar on the run.
Rose gives chase.

EXT. STREET CORNER - DAY

Mr. Salazar runs like lightning off the park's premises and
charges across the street toward Devilon's dark vehicle.

INT. DEVILON'S VEHICLE - DAY

Salazar leaps into the back seat.

                       DEVILON
What happened?!

                       MR. SALAZAR
You told me she was a knives
expert! She had a gun!

                       DEVILON
What?! Well - what the hell
happened?!
      (to the bodyguard)
Drive! Drive!

The bodyguard starts barrelling down the road.

                       MR. SALAZAR
I don't know, I got the hell out
of there. Your whole plan went to
shit!

                       DEVILON
What? Bob is going to kill you!

EXT. STREET CORNER - DAY

Rose, out of breath, zips the gun back up in her jacket.

                       ROSE
Shit...

She pulls out her cell phone.

14.

INT. DEVILON'S VEHICLE - MOVING - DAY

Devilon and Mr. Salazar shout over each other.

                       MR. SALAZAR
I should have been the brains of
this shit! She wasn't supposed to
have a gun!

                       DEVILON
What does it matter? You still
should have done you job! What
does it matter?!

                       MR. SALAZAR
I'm the one with the brains. Maybe
I should start fucking Bob, too,
to get some respect. This one's on
you, bitch.

                       DEVILON
Uh, excuse me? Calm your happy ass
down! Fuck it. The shit's hit the
fan now.
      (to the bodyguard)
We're going to the shop.

EXT. STREET CORNER - DAY

Rose dials Ryan's phone number. It's rings and no one picks
up. Rose starts running, on the verge of tears.

INT. THRIFT STORE - DAY

Ryan arranges items on the rack. The jingling bell over the
front door signals the entrance of a customer.

                       RYAN
Welcome. I knew opening earlier
would start getting us some more
patrons. How can I help --

Ryan wheels forward and stops dead in his tracks. It's
Devilon.

                       RYAN
Hey - W-Who are you?

                       DEVILON
An old friend of Rose.

15.

                       RYAN
Hey, whatever business you two got
going on with each other... I
think it's best if you don't come
around her anym--

Devilon advances with a steel cable, pulling it taut and
wrapping it around Ryan's neck.

                       DEVILON
Oh, it's not business. I'm afraid
it's very personal.

The cable sinks into Ryan's skin.

EXT. BUSINESS STREET - DAY

Rose, sucking air, runs as fast as she possibly can. She
doesn't sob, but there are tears on her cheeks.

INT. THRIFT STORE - DAY

The wheelchair is overturned, Ryan's lifeless body beside
it. Rose enters and remains in the doorway for a BEAT.

She slowly advances on the body. A note is pinned to Ryan's
shirt: THE ESTATE. TONIGHT.

Rose tosses the paper aside and throws herself on her
boyfriend's body.

INT. ROSE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Knives, knives, and more knives. Blades of all shapes and
sizes. Rose attaches her collection to the belt and
compartments on her black stealth suit.

EXT. BOB'S ESTATE - NIGHT

A pair of bodyguards stand outside the front entance.

                       BODYGUARD #1
They say she doesn't use guns.

                       BODYGUARD #2
They also said she had a gun
today. That's why Bob's got us all
on high alert.

16.

                       BODYGUARD #1
Well, I'm saying we're expecting
her, and we sure as hell got guns,
so she's got to be out of her mind
to come at us without at least one
pistol.

                       BODYGUARD #2
You're right. I don't care how
much training you have, there's
still no one that can train
anything to be as fast as a
bullet.

A flash of silver hurtles through the air, and Bodyguard #2
has a Bowie knife lodged in his esophogus.

                       BODYGUARD #1
Shit!

Bodyguard #1 pulls his pistol and fires into the dark.

                       BODYGUARD #1
Come out, you bitch!

Rose suddenly appears behind Bodyguard #1 and slits his
throat with indifference.

INT. BOB'S ESTATE - NIGHT

Devilon creeps around a corner with a pistol primed to fire.

                       DEVILON
Come on... Come on...

She approaches Mr. Salazar, who's crouched in the darkness,
waiting.

                       MR. SALAZAR
I think she's here. Split up.

                       DEVILON
What? That's stupid.

                       MR. SALAZAR
We can't give her the opportunity
to get us both at the same time.

                       DEVILON
That makes no sense --

17.

A startling noise interrupts from the other side of the
house.

                       MR. SALAZAR
Split up. I got the brains,
remember?

Devilon creeps away. Mr. Salazar stalks toward the source of
the noise.

INT. BOB'S KITCHEN - NIGHT

Mr. Salazar enters with his gun drawn.

A flash of silver slices the air, and a Bowie knife plants
into the wall just to the right of Salazar's head. He fires
his gun in the direction the knife came.

                       MR. SALAZAR
You missed me, bitch! Let's go!

Mr. Salazar moves around the counter, his nerves getting the
better of him. He doesn't notice Rose camouflaged against
the wall behind him.

He peeks around a corner and finds no trace of his quarry.
Rose whistles behind him.

Salazar spins around in shock and catches a face full of
blade. A thick mist of brain matter hits the kitchen sink.

INT. UPSTAIRS HALL - NIGHT

Devilon enters the hall from the master bedroom, closing the
door behind her. The lights in the area suddenly SNAP OFF.

Footsteps pound through the darkness. Devilon is across the
room by the light switch when she flicks them back on. She
immediately traps a scream in her mouth: Rose's knives sit
in a messy pile in the middle of the hallway.

Devilon stumbles toward the closest door in the hall. As she
hastily enters the room, she SCREAMS. Then there's the
thrashing of a struggle. And, finally, dead silence.

Rose coolly emerges from the room, drenched in blood,
unraveling a steel cable not unlike the one that killed
Ryan. She heads toward the master bedroom, picking up a
knife from the pile on her way.

18.

INT. MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT

Bob calmly lays in bed. Eerily even. There is cocaine on the
nightstand beside him.

Enter Rose.

                       ROSE
Why?

                       BOB
I made you. We're falling apart
without you, and you don't care --

                       ROSE
Stop. It doesn't matter. You're so
far gone, you don't even know.

                       BOB
You turned your back on your
family. It's a sin.

                       ROSE
Well, I got one more sin to go.
Are you ready?

Bob pulls a gun from beneath his blankets and raises the
barrel to his own temple. Rose snatches the gun away.

                       BOB
At least use the gun. I can't
stand knives. Use the gun.

                       ROSE
No.

Rose plunges the knife in her father's chest and drags it
down his torso.

INT. CHURCH - DAY

Rose sits solemnly in a pew, not praying. She rises to leave
and is accosted by the same MAN with the collection basket.

Rose keeps her eyes on the church's exit as she blows past
the man, knocking his basket and its contents to the floor.
