ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: TRAMP

FADE IN:

INT. THE SEVILLE HOUSE - THE BOYS' BEDROOM - DAY

Alvin, Simon and Theodore are asleep in their beds. The room
is dark because the shades haven't been drawn yet.

ENTER DAVE THROUGH THE BEDROOM DOOR, QUIETLY.

                       DAVE
      (Opens the bedroom
       door.)
Boys, it's time to wake up. I--

Dave grimaces and stops talking, seeing the boys are still
asleep. Camera on Alvin, who gives a light snore. Dave walks
to Alvin's bed and taps him on the shoulder. Alvin rolls
onto his back and gives another light snore. Camera on Dave,
whose grimace has transformed into a scowl.

                       DAVE
      (Almost sotto
       voce.)
Alvin.

Alvin snores.

                       DAVE
      (Louder.)
Alvin!

                       ALVIN
      (His eyes,
       bloodshot, tear
       open. He gasps.)
Ow...

                       THEODORE
      (He yawns and sits
       up in his bed.)
Good morning, Dave.

                       DAVE
      (Deadpan.)
Morning.

                       ALVIN
      (Scoffs.)
Thanks, Dave. Thanks a lot.

2.

He holds his stomach and winces.

                       DAVE
You okay?

                       ALVIN
      (Annoyed deadpan.)
I'll live.

Alvin gets out of bed and shoves Simon to the floor, waking
him.

                       SIMON
      (Suddenly and
       loudly.)
Ow! What the--? Alvin? Why did you
do that?!

                       ALVIN
      (Still in deadpan.)
Get up.

                       SIMON
      (Angrily.)
Rude!! You don't just shove
somebody out of their bed because
you want them to wake up! What is
the matter with you!? I'm not your
puppet!!
      (He notices Dave.)
Uh... I-I mean... Good morning?
      (Chuckles
       nervously.)

                       DAVE
      (Yawns.)
It's time to get up. We have a big
day today.

EXIT DAVE.

                       THEODORE (sotto voce)
That looked like it hurt...

                       ALVIN
Oh, shut up.

Alvin exits the room and goes into the bathroom. The light
in the bathroom turns on, and the door swings shut. Simon
stands up and walks to the other side of his bed.

3.

                       SIMON
      (Rubbing his butt.)
That hurt. I wonder how he'd feel
if I did that to him.
      (Sotto voce.)
I won't be able to sit for a week.
Stupid floor. Stupid Alvin.

                       THEODORE
I'm hungry.

Theodore gets out of bed and kneels, pulling a trunk from
under his bed. Meanwhile, Simon fixes his sheets and quilt.
Theodore prepares his clothing for today.
The bathroom door opens, and emerges Alvin with a mirror and
a towel around his waist.

                       ALVIN
      (Pointing to a red
       spot on his right
       lung.)
Does this look weird?

                       SIMON
Good Lord. Where'd that come from?

Alvin shrugs his shoulders.

                       SIMON
      (Smiles.)
More importantly,
      (Laughs.)
where are your clothes?

                       THEODORE
I have mine set up!

                       ALVIN
      (In a weird voice.)
In my trunk. Duuuhhhh!

                       SIMON
No need for the sarcasm, mister.
Intolerable.
      (Yawns and rubs
       his butt.)

                       ALVIN
What do you expect, "I'm sorry"?

                       SIMON
Please?

4.

                       ALVIN
I'll shove you out of bed if you
want, but I'm not gonna lie to
you.

                       SIMON
      (Wears a blank
       stare.)
But you lie to me every day!

                       ALVIN
      (Getting his
       trunk.)
No I don't.

                       SIMON
      (Points at Alvin,
       angry.)
That's lie number one!!

Theodore, clothes in hand, heads for the bathroom.

IN THE BATHROOM.

Theodore closes the door behind him and locks it. He sets
his clothes, folded, on the floor near the door. He grabs a
towel from the cabinet behind the toilet.
Camera on his upper torso and face as he removes his
clothes, starting with his shirt. His brothers bicker in the
background.

                       THEODORE
      (Sighs, resigned.)
Jeez.

                       DAVE
      (Behind the door.)
Hey, hey, hey! What's with all the
yelling?!

IN THE HALLWAY.

Camera on the door. Dave stands there with his hands on his
hips.

                       ALVIN
This, Dave? This?! This is what
you give me to work with? I mean,
I've seen worse, but still!

                       DAVE
      (Interrupting him.)
Look, I don't wanna hear it! We
have visitors in the house! Just
            (MORE)

5.

                       DAVE (cont'd)
get ready! I don't wanna hear
anymore noise from this room!
Nothing! Got it?

                       ALVIN
Visitors?

                       DAVE
Nothing!

                       ALVIN
      (Immediately.)
Okay! Okay, okay, fine.

IN THE ROOM. EXIT DAVE.

                       SIMON
      (Sharp sigh.)
Smooth. Just great, Alvin.

                       ALVIN
      (Resigned.)
Whatever. Because, according to
you, everything is my fault.

                       SIMON
Oh, just be quiet, will ya?

Simon goes to the bathroom door. The shower is running, and
Theodore is humming to himself.

                       SIMON (cont'd)
Hurry up, Theodore!

Theodore ignores him. Simon snorts and heads back to the
room.

INT. THE SEVILLE HOUSE - THE LIVING ROOM - DAY

Peaches and Mitchell are sitting on the sofa.

ENTER DAVE.

                       DAVE
      (Sitting down in a
       chair.)
I'm sorry for that. My boys are
off to a rough start this morning.

6.

                       PEACHES
That's quite all right, quite all
right. We have a boy of our own.

                       DAVE
Speaking of which, where is he? As
I understand, you just recently
adopted him?

                       PEACHES
He's in the car. He's a bit shy.
And yes, just last week. But,
seeing as we don't have any money
anymore, we can't get a new house.
So we can't keep him.

                       DAVE
Whoa, what? What happened?

                       MITCHELL
We were robbed. We didn't tell
you?

                       DAVE
      (Shakes his head.)
Mm-mmm. I'm sorry to hear that.

                       MITCHELL
Dave?
      (Dave looks at
       him.)
Can you do me a favor?

                       DAVE
What kind of favor?

                       MITCHELL
One you won't regret. One that, if
done correctly, will be repaid.

                       DAVE
I'm listening.

                       MITCHELL
Take our boy. Just until we can
get back our money.

                       DAVE
Take him? I-I'm not sure if I
can...

7.

                       PEACHES
Please, David. We can't keep him,
and we can't put him with DHS. You
know what they'll do to him.

                       DAVE
      (Sighs.)
I'll think about it. But that's
all I can do for now, Peaches. I'm
sorry.

                       MITCHELL
Peaches, love, please go get the
boy.

                       PEACHES
Okay.

Peaches gets up from the couch and exits the house, hanging
a left.

                       MITCHELL
Look, Dave, he's a child. He can't
handle himself. He's very
respectful and very disciplined.
He's shy, but it passes with time.
We don't have the funds to keep
him ourselves, and you know we
were laid off last month. We
thought we had it together, and
clearly we don't. We need you as
our friend to take him off our
hands, just for now until we can
get it together. I'm asking you
not as a friend, but as your
brother. Please. I trust you.

                       DAVE
Mitch, I just don't know yet. Give
me a few hours to think.

                       MITCHELL
Then, I suppose, we'll be here for
a while.

                       DAVE
Doesn't bother me. Tea? Coffee?

                       MITCHELL
Coffee for me, tea for the missus.
If you please.

Dave gets up and heads for the kitchen.

8.

                                         CUT TO:

IN THE BOYS' ROOM.

Theodore is still in the shower; Simon, wearing a disgusted,
angry grimace, is sitting on his bed, writing in a journal.
Alvin is watching television, relaxing on his,
still-ruffled.
The television displays Ursula the Sea Witch singing "Poor
Unfortunate Souls."

                       ALVIN
      (Singing along.)
Go ahead! Make your choice!
I'm a very busy woman and I
haven't got all day,
it won't cost much,
just your voice!

                       SIMON
      (Sotto voce.)
I wish somebody would take
yours...

                       ALVIN
      (Tauntingly.)
Oh, stop. I know you love my
voice.

                       SIMON
Are you implying I love the sound
of a fork in a garbage disposal?

                       ALVIN
      (Imitating Simon.)
Oh Good Lord! I've been insulted!

                       SIMON
      (Smiles.)
Oh, I see. I see how it is. You're
going to play that card. I see.
It's on now.

Simon gets up from his bed and shoves Alvin to the floor.

                       ALVIN
Aah!

                       SIMON (cont'd)
That's for this morning.

9.

                       ALVIN
Ow! The floor is made of wood, you
know!

                       SIMON
Hurts, doesn't it!

Alvin gets up and tackles Simon. They land on Simon's bed,
wrestling.

IN THE LIVING ROOM.

Alvin yells and there is a thud on the floor, but both
sounds are muffled. Reenter Dave, setting three mugs on the
coffee table. Dave looks toward the annex hallway, hiding an
annoyed expression.

                       DAVE
      (Not quite calmly.)
I'll be right back.

IN THE ROOM.

The boys are wrestling; Simon has Alvin in a choke hold.
Enter Dave into the room rather explosively.

                       DAVE
      (Yelling.)
What are you two doing?!
      (Tears them apart.)
Get off of him! What is the matter
with you, Simon?! What is this?!

                       SIMON
      (Suddenly calmly.)
We were playing... Dave.

                       DAVE
I told you I didn't want any more
noise from this room!

                       ALVIN
Oh, yeah...

Simon glares at Alvin.

                       DAVE
      (To Simon.)
This is just as much your fault as
it is his. No more. None. Zip.
Zilch. Zero. Get it?
      (Turns to Alvin.)
Alvin?

10.

                       DAVE (cont'd)

Alvin is watching television, ignoring Dave.

                       DAVE (cont'd)
Alvin!!

                       ALVIN
      (Shoots a look at
       Dave, then back
       at the
       television.)
What?!

Dave turns off the television.

                       ALVIN
      (Points at the
       doorway.)
Go. Living room. Now.

Camera on Alvin from Dave's view, who stares at him, then
walks toward the living room. Camera on Simon.

                       SIMON
Me too?

                       DAVE
Yep.

Simon follows his brother.

IN THE LIVING ROOM.

Enter Simon, Alvin and Dave. Dave sits down in his seat;
Alvin and Simon sit in front of the coffee table opposite
the sofa.

                       MITCHELL
      (Smiles.)
Hello, boys!

                       SIMON
Mr. Mitchell! How are you?

                       MITCHELL
I'm just swell. And yourself?

                       SIMON
I'm doing well. This morning was a
little rough, but it's evened out,
I'd say.

11.

                       DAVE
      (Sarcastically.)
Yeah, it's evened out.

                       MITCHELL
      (Chuckles.)
I see.

Enter Peaches and Sid through the front door.

                       PEACHES
I'm back!

They go to sit on the couch. Camera on Sid, who wears a
half-scared expression. He never takes his eyes off Alvin
and Simon.
Camera on the couch and chair as they sit down.

                       PEACHES (cont'd)
David, boys, please meet Sidney
Marshall Mitchell.

                       SIMON
Hey there. I'm Simon. Uh... It's
nice to meet you!

                       ALVIN
      (Quietly.)
I'm Alvin.

                       SID
      (New York accent.)
It's a pleasure. I'm Sid.

                       DAVE
Boys, why don't you go to your
room and play with Sid?

                       ALVIN
Dave, the Millers wanted to visit
today, just so you know.
      (Gets up.)

The other three get up and follow him into the annex
hallway.

                       DAVE
What, you didn't even ask me, and
whose house is this?

12.

                       PEACHES
      (Putting a hand on
       Dave's shoulder.)
Easy there, kitty, put the claws
away. Let him visit. He's only a
child for so long.

                       DAVE
      (Sighs, watching
       the door swing
       shut.)
Yeah, you're right.
      (Looks at Peaches.)
They've been growing up so fast. I
just want to keep them as they are
for a little bit, you know?

                                         FADE OUT.

INT. THE SEVILLE HOUSE - THE BOYS' BEDROOM - DAY

ENTER ALVIN, SIMON AND SID.

                       SIMON
So, uh... Welcome to our room.
      (Gestures toward
       Alvin's unmade
       bed.)
Please pardon the mess.

Camera on Sid, who looks around at the various posters.

                       SID
So this is your room, huh? Nice.

                       SIMON
      (Smiles at Sid.)
Where are you from? Your accent's
remarkable.

                       SID
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New
York.

                       ALVIN
      (Coolly.)
New York, huh? The Big Apple,
where thousands of screaming fans
shatter your ear drums as soon as
you say my name. Heh heh heh!

13.

Sid and Theodore give him incredulous looks; Simon gives him
a disgusted look.

                       ALVIN (CONT'D)
      (Smiles
       handsomely.)
You know the ladies love me.

                       SIMON
      (As his grimace
       grows.)
Could you be any more of a total
show off?

                       ALVIN
I'm not showing off. I'm just
enlightening our guest of our
past. Speaking of which, you
should chill, man. I'm not
attacking you.

                       SIMON
      (Grimacing even
       more.)
Please be quiet, Alvin. If I hear
your voice right now, I will no
longer be able to control my words
or actions and therefore will not
be justly held accountable for how
bad I might strangle you. So now
would be a very good time
      (Yelling.)
for you to SHUT UP!!!

Simon goes to sit on his bed, but pauses when Alvin laughs.
When he finally does sit after shooting a demonic glare at
his brother, he grabs his journal and a pen.

                       ALVIN
      (To Sid.)
Don't mind him. He's just mad
because he doesn't like his
girlfriend, and every time she's
over here, she can't take her
hands off him.
      (Chuckles.)
He _is_ a chipmunk.
      (As Sid starts to
       glare.)
He's an awesome singer, and a
beautiful dancer. Not like me, of
course, but to each his own,
right?

14.

                       SID
      (Almost
       interrupting him.)
You talk way too much. You're
cute, but talking like you own the
world doesn't make you cool. It
makes you pathetic, and that makes
people hate you.

                       ALVIN
Tsk. I don't know anybody who
hates me.

                       SID
No?
      (Looks at Simon,
       then back at
       Alvin.)
Think hard.
      (Walks to Simon.)

                       ALVIN
What?

                       SID
Oy, this kid.

                       SIMON
He'll grow out of it.

                       SID
I dunno, man. The laws of motion
dictate that what is moving stays
in motion until another force acts
on it in a negative direction.
That is to say, if he isn't
corrected, he could be this way
forever.

                       ALVIN
And that's a bad thing?

                       SID
Depends. Are you willing to learn
to fight or to get your butt
kicked?

                       ALVIN
      (Suddenly bored.)
And I suppose YOU are going to
kick my butt?

15.

                       SID
      (Raises his
       eyebrows.)
Depends. You gonna be a good boy?

                       ALVIN
I'm not a dog, dude.

                       SID
      (Aside)
Could have fooled me.

                       ALVIN
What? What did you say?

FADE OUT.
