INT. KING HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT |
YOUNG KING RYLIE (11) sits in the middle of the floor
watching cartoons. She clutches an old teddy bear in her
arm, causing her to portray as much younger. |
Her mother, LEIGH-ANNE (38), enters. Just by her face, it's
easily told she's a smoker, possibly heavy drinker. |
LEIGH-ANNE
(crying)
He's gone. |
Young Rylie looks up. Her mother's crying face doesn't seem
to phase her. |
YOUNG RYLIE
Well, where do he go? |
LEIGH-ANNE
No Rylie, he's gone. |
Young Rylie looks down. She appears to be deep in thought. |
Silence. |
Young Rylie looks up, a new concerned look on her face. |
YOUNG RYLIE
As in, he's never coming back? |
Leigh-Anne nods. Young Rylie stands up angrily. |
YOUNG RYLIE
This is all your fault! |
LEIGH-ANNE
(softly)
Rylie please, you'll wake up
Mason. |
Young Rylie cringes at the name Mason. |
YOUNG RYLIE
If you could have been a better
mother wife,
(now crying)
then maybe Dad never would have

LEIGH-ANNE
(calmly)
This has nothing to do with me. |
YOUNG RYLIE
Then who was it?! |
Young Rylie steps back, taken back by her own mother's
words. |
LEIGH-ANNE
(calmer)
I'm sorry, but you know it's true.
You were a disappointment to your
father. A disappointment to me! |

INT. KING HOUSE - RYLIE'S BEDROOM - DAY |
RYLIE, now 19, sits sideways in fetal position on the window
seat, staring out the window. |
RYLIE (V.O)
For four years, I walked, ate,
talked, but could never comprehend
what I was doing. Rylie King was
lost and couldn't be found.
Sometimes I wished, instead of
just letting me be, someone would
hear my cries. |
Leigh-Anne barges in. Rylie is unchanged. |
LEIGH-ANNE
Are you going to do anything
today? |
Rylie shrugs. |
LEIGH-ANNE (cont'd))
What does that mean? Should I call
Marcus and tell him to cancel
another interview? You're
nineteen, Rylie. Get up and do
something with your life! |

RYLIE

It's more than you've ever done. |
Leigh-Anne storms out, angrily. |

INT. KING HOUSE - RYLIE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT |
Rylie sits in the same position. OUTSIDE THE WINDOW, we see
Leigh-Anne and MASON (10) placing suitcases into a car,
before driving off. |
INT. KING HOUSE - KITCHEN - MORNING |
Rylie walks down the stairs that lead into the kitchen. She
gasps at the sight. We now see that the kitchen is
completely empty. Rylie crawls down on to the floor and into
fetal position, closing her eyes as she cries. |
INT. TAYLOR HOUSE - DINING ROOM - MORNING |
IZABELLA (19) and ACELYN (16) sit at the table across from
each other, eating breakfast. Several HANDS--HOUSEKEEPERS,
COOKS, NANNIES, ETC.--are fluttering around the kitchen,
performing several different tasks. JAMES (52) walks in
holding a cup of coffee. HANDS disperse in different
directions out of the room. James sits down at the end seat,
between the girls. A COOK places a plate of food in front of
James and a SERVANT hands James a newspaper. |
JAMES
Thank you.
(to his daughters)
Good morning, girls. |
IZABELLA
Good morning, Daddy. |
It's obvious that Izabella is more respectful then Acelyn,
when talking to their father. |
JAMES
What are you girls doing today? |
IZABELLA
I have a photo-shoot for the new
album. |

JAMES
Maybe I'll come by and see you. |
IZABELLA
Oh no, there's no need for that. |
IZABELLA
(trails off)
Acelyn has an audition today,
so... |
JAMES
Right, of course! How could I
forget? |
ACELYN
You don't have to come-- |
Izabella cuts her off. |
ACELYN
Why does it matter to you? |
IZABELLA
I just think Dad should go with
you. An audition is a big deal. |
JAMES
Don't worry Acelyn. I won't
embarrass you too much. |
FADE OUT. |
