FADE IN:

EXT. DEMOLISHED CITY - MORNING

CAMERA PANS UP TO REVEAL A SILHOUETTE OF WONDER WOMAN
AGAINST A SUNRISE OVER A BROKEN, SMOLDERING CITY. THE CAMERA
PANS OVER HER HEAD, FINALLY REVEALING HER FACE. WE SEE
EXTENSIVE INJURIES AND SEVERAL AREAS WHERE MUSCLE AND TENDON
HAVE BEEN EXPOSED. SHE BEGINS TO WALK, STUMBLING SLIGHTLY
DUE TO A INJURY ON HER LEG. THE CAMERA PANS AROUND BEHIND
AND FOLLOWS ALONG.

                                         FADE OUT

EXT. DEMOLISHED CITY - 15 YEARS LATER - MORNING

FADE IN — FROM THE FRONT, WE SEE WONDER WOMAN WALKING THE
SAME STREET, THE CITY HAS BEEN REBUILT. THE RIGHT SIDE OF
HER FACE AS WELL AS A CHUNK OF HER LEG HAVE BEEN REPLACED
WITH METAL, BOLTED TO HER SKIN.

THE CAMERA ZOOMS OUT, REVEALING NONE OTHER THAN IRON MAN,
LEANING AGAINST THE SIDE OF AN ABANDONED CAR. WONDER WOMAN
CONTINUES TO WALK PAST HIM, AT WHICH POINT HE FALLS INTO
STEP BESIDE HER.

                       IRON MAN
      (Joking)
Hey, pretty lady, there's a lot of
people who want to snatch you up
out here.

AS HE TALKS, THE CAMERA PANS AROUND, AS IF TO SHOW HIS POINT
OF VIEW.

                       WONDER WOMAN
      (Without emotion)
I suppose you're one of them.

AS SHE TALKS, THE CAMERA ANGLE SHOWS HER FACE, HER
EXPRESSION ANNOYED.

WE HEAR IRON MANS SUIT POWER UP AND SEE HIM FLYING ABOUT
CHEST-HEIGHT ON HIS BACK, GIVING OFF AN AIR OF RELAXATION.

                       IRON MAN
On the contrary, I'm here to give
you a promotion, if you'll take
it.

2.

                       WONDER WOMAN
      (Scoffing)
A promotion from what, exactly?

                       IRON MAN
Boring superhero work. Boring
alter ego. Boring outfit-- no
offense. Boring everything.

                       WONDER WOMAN
      (Annoyed)
Look, metal man, I don't know who
you think you are, but this-- *SHE
GESTURES TO THE CITY*-- this isn't
what I'd consider boring. So
thanks, but no thanks.

IRON MAN LANDS IN FRONT OF HER AND EXTENDS HIS HAND.

                       IRON MAN
First of all, the name's Iron Man.
None of that 'metal man' crap.
Second, I'm member of the
Avenger's Initiative.

AFTER REALIZING WONDER WOMAN ISN'T GOING TO SHAKE HIS HAND,
HE LOWERS IT AND CONTINUES TALKING.

                       IRON MAN
We're a band of heroes that
director Nick Fury pulled
together, quite literally in some
cases, and right now you're in his
sights.

                       WONDER WOMAN
      (Coldly)
I said no thanks.

                       IRON MAN
The man gets what he wants, Diana.

                       WONDER WOMAN
Don't you call me that!

SHE SHOOTS INTO THE SKY AND FLIES AWAY.

THE CAMERA CHANGES TO SHOW A SIDE-SHOT OF HER. IRON MAN
APPEARS, FLYING BESIDE HER, MASK ON, STILL MAINTAINING A
CASUAL APPEARANCE.

                       IRON MAN
We can do this all day.

3.

                       WONDER WOMAN
Listen, I don't need a team. It'll
only slow me down.

                       IRON MAN
      (Laughs)
If I had a dime for every time I
heard that.... At least give it a
try. You know, meet the gang.

                       WONDER WOMAN
      (Sighs)
Fine. But don't think for one
second that means I'm joining your
little club.

                       IRON MAN
That's the spirit.

INT. AVENGERS HEADQUARTERS - DAY

THE AVENGERS ARE SCATTERED AROUND SOME SORT OF MAKESHIFT
BREAK ROOM. IRON MAN ENTERS, FOLLOWED BY WONDER WOMAN.

                       IRON MAN
Now, here we are. The best of the
best.
      (Gesturing to each
       hero as he
       introduces them)
We've got Thor here, with the
tresses of gold.
And dear Bruce, you may know him
as the Hulk; mean, green, smashing
machine.
Next to him, we've got Cap. The
guy grills a mean burger.
Miss Romanoff, our local Black
Widow. Watch out for her, she's
not one for competition.
And her pet, Clint, aka Hawkeye.
He could put an arrow through your
heart from 500 yards away. Well,
maybe not your heart,
specifically, but you get the
gist.

EACH AVENGER GREETS WONDER WOMAN, THEN RETURNS TO THEIR
RESPECTIVE TASKS.

4.

                       WONDER WOMAN
Some team. I don't see much
world-saving going on.

                       CAPTAIN AMERICA
Well, we stopped a global invasion
last year.

                       IRON MAN
Yeah, where were you? We blew up
half of New York.

                       WONDER WOMAN
Oh, that was you? Hmph.

                       THOR
So, Woman of Wonder, you're
joining our team?

                       WONDER WOMAN
I--

                       NICK FURY
      (Enters the room)
Let's hope so. I don't invite
stray women back to HQ and set
them loose back into society.
      (He looks around
       at the Avengers,
       spread around the
       room)
I'm not paying you to sit around
all day, am I?

                       HULK
      (Annoyed)
You're not paying us at all.

                       NICK FURY
Damn straight, skippy. Get back to
work.

THE AVENGERS BEGRUDGINGLY LEAVE THE ROOM, NO DOUBT RETURNING
TO THEIR WORKSTATIONS. DIRECTOR FURY SITS IN ONE OF THE NOW
VACANT SEATS AND GESTURES TO ANOTHER ONE NEARBY.

                       NICK FURY
Sit.

WONDER WOMAN OBLIGES, SITTING STIFFLY ACROSS FROM DIRECTOR
FURY.

5.

                       NICK FURY
I'm sure you're wondering why
you're here.

                       WONDER WOMAN
Not really. It's been made fairly
clear to me. And as flattered as I
am, I prefer to work alone.

                       NICK FURY
      (Sarcastically)
Never heard that before.
      (He chuckles)
Everyone here was just like you at
some point. Even me. We all hid
ourselves from the world, working
alone, in the shadows, avoiding
conflict. But let me tell you,
working together is a whole hell
of a lot easier.

                       WONDER WOMAN
But why did you come after me?
There are so many other supers out
there.

                       NICK FURY
There are plenty of supers, but
there's only one Wonder Woman.
You've been there. When I was a
kid I used to look up to people
like you. And when you saved the
city all those years ago and
disappeared, so many people were
crushed. We needed you back. And
here you are. Everyone of these
heroes here, they found purpose
and they became great. Now, I'm
offering you a chance to do the
same. You could change your life,
come back to the light, inspire a
whole new generation. What do you
say?

WONDER WOMAN SAT IN SILENCE, DEEP IN THOUGHT. FINALLY, SHE
SEEMED TO COME TO A DECISION.

                       WONDER WOMAN
I'll do it.
