FADE IN:

EXT. DESERT ROAD - NIGHT

Dirty shoes shuffle along the asphalt on the side of the
road. Headlights zoom by.

HONK!

The car swerves to not hit the person.

                       DRIVER (O.S.)
Watch where you're going, asshole!

The person walking GRUNTS.

We pan up to see specks of blood doting his ripped khakis.
Then further to see a torn and blood soaked collared shirt.

We make our way up to his face. This is DEAD MAN, 30's, eyes
glossy and hollow, flesh rotting away. He grinds his exposed
jaw.

His unblinking eyes intensely focus.

We turn to see his eyes staring at the bright lights of the
Vegas skyline. He is only ten miles or so away.

Another car swerves to avoid hitting him, HONKS loudly. Dead
Man growls as the car zooms off into the distance.

Dead Man continues his track towards the bright lights.

SUPER: "Dead of Night"

INT. CASINO - NIGHT

A hand pulls down a slot machine lever. One cherry. Two
cherries. Three cherries.

DING! DING! DING!

We have a winner! Coins clank as they pour from the machine.
An eager hand scoops them out.

A packed casino in the middle of rush hour. This place is
happening.

A ball spins around a roulette wheel.

2.

                       JUSTIN (O.S.)
C'mon, hit it for me!

The ball comes to a stop on Red 21.

DEALER, 30ish, waves her hands.

                       DEALER
Red 21 -- We have a winner.

JUSTIN COOPER, early 20's, sharp features, decked in stylish
black clothes, pumps his fist.

                       JUSTIN
That's what I'm talking about!

Aubrey Cooper, early 20's, an air of danger, dark short
hair, leather outfit, arms crossed, scoffs at her twin
brother.

                       AUBREY
Sometimes it's better to be lucky
than good.

                       JUSTIN
I'm ready to cash out.

                       DEALER
Of course.

Dealer exchanges the roulette chips for casino chips, hand
Justin a large stack. Justin hands her a couple chips.

                       DEALER
Thank you, sir.

                       JUSTIN
Don't mention it.

Justin grabs his stack of chips. Aubrey and he walk away
from the table.

                       AUBREY
You almost done gambling, I'm
famished. I'm going to start to
get cranky if I don't get a bite
soon.

                       JUSTIN
Yeah, I'm done. I don't want to
have to deal with Darth Aubrey all
night.

3.

                       AUBREY
Whatever.

                       JUSTIN
You see anything that looks good?

They walk into a mini bar/restaurant and take a seat away
from everyone. There are only a handful of people in the bar
area.

Aubrey scans the room, her eyes light up. She points to an
OVERWEIGHT BUSINESSMAN, at the bar, sipping on a martini.

                       AUBREY
What about him?

Justin regards the man, shakes his head in disgust.

                       JUSTIN
All the cholesterol in his blood,
are you trying to ruin my diet?

                       AUBREY
You are the pickiest person I've
ever met in my life, you know
that?

                       JUSTIN
Some call it having good taste.

                       AUBREY
      (sighs)
Fine, tell me who you want.

Justin's eyes bounce around, finally landing on something
they like. Justin smiles and points.

                       JUSTIN
They look tasty, no?

Aubrey's attention turn to HOT BLONDE and SEXY BRUNETTE
sitting at the bar, drinks in front of them, having a good
time.

                       AUBREY
They look like hookers.

                       JUSTIN
I see two lovely ladies out on the
town.

4.

                       AUBREY
The last time you said that, I
ended up needing a penicillin
shot.

                       JUSTIN
It was just that one time, you're
so melodramatic.

                       AUBREY
You look at them and see dinner, I
see contactable diseases.

                       JUSTIN
Fine, be that way. More for me
then.

A TELEVISION plays the news. Images in New York. Two zombies
eat a person alive. Cops shoot and kill the two zombies.

Justin gets up and struts to the two women at the bar, takes
a seat next to them.

                       REPORTER (V.O.)
As the pandemic spreads through
the coastal cities, authorities
struggle to try and contain it.
States of Emergency have been
declared in New York,
Pennsylvania, Massachusetts,...

Hot Blonde turns to the BARTENDER.

                       HOT BLONDE
Can you change this, to like, MTV
or something?

                       BARTENDER
Sure thing.

The Bartender grabs the remote, changes the channel to MTV,
which is playing some mindless drivel.

                       JUSTIN
You ladies enjoying yourself
tonight?

The two ladies turn, eye him up and down. They both offer
flirtatious smiles.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
We're doing alright. How are you,
stranger?

5.

Hot Blonde regard his stack of chips.

                       HOT BLONDE
Looks like you've been having a
good night.

                       JUSTIN
Just got lucky is all.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
You get lucky often?

Justin's cheeks turn red, unsure what to say. Hot Blonde and
Sexy Brunette exchange a look, giggle.

                       HOT BLONDE
He's cute.

Aubrey, still at her seat a few feet away, shakes her head
and scoffs.

                       JUSTIN
Can I buy you ladies a drink?

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
We thought you'd never ask.

A WOMAN SCREAMS O.S.

Everyone in the casino turns to the commotion.

Dead Man, who we saw earlier, has an ELDERLY WOMAN pinned to
the ground. He violently sinks his teeth into her arm, rips
out meat and flesh.

Blood sprays everywhere as Elderly Woman screams in agony.

                       HOT BLONDE
Oh my God!

Four SECURITY GUARDS bolt to the scene, tackle Dead Man.
They struggle to subdue him.

Dead Man sinks his champers into one of the Security Guards,
who shrieks in pain.

Another Security Guard grabs a club, repeatedly beats Dead
Man over the head, dazing him.

The Guard puts Dead Man in a choke hold. Three Guards drag
him into a back room.

6.

Multiple Casino Employees come to the aide of the two people
bitten.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
That was the craziest shit I've
seen in a Vegas casino, and I've
seen a lot of crazy shit in Vegas
casinos.

                       HOT BLONDE
What was wrong with that guy?

                       JUSTIN
I have no idea.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
Probably that spice drug
everyone's been talking about.

                       JUSTIN
Who knows? There's a lot of dam
weirdos in this town?

The mood settles down.

                       HOT BLONDE
What did you say your name was
again?

Justin's gaze hypnotically meets Hot Blonde's.

                       JUSTIN
How bout I keep you ladies company
tonight?

Justin turns his hypnotic gaze to Sexy Brunette, captivates
her.

                       JUSTIN
You could use a strong guy like me
to keep you safe from all the
crazies.

Hot Blonde and Sexy Brunette nod, as if in trance.

                       JUSTIN
My place is only a couple miles
away.

                       HOT BLONDE
Will you show us?

7.

Justin smiles and nods. He stands, the two women follow.
Justin interlocks arms with the two women and leads them
away from the bar.

Aubrey stands, follows them at a distance.

EXT. VEGAS STRIP - NIGHT

The Mirage, Bellagio, The Wynn. Everything you imagine when
you see the Vegas strip.

A stylish Audi A4 maneuvers through congested traffic. Runs
out of open road and comes to a stop.

INT. AUDI - NIGHT

Justin, in the driver's seat, pulls the car to a halt. Hot
Blonde and Sexy Brunette are draped over each other in the
back seat.

Justin grunts in frustration, looks around, trying to figure
out what is holding up traffic.

                       HOT BLONDE
Are we almost there yet?

                       JUSTIN
Yeah. You two doing okay back
there?

Justin adjusts the rear view mirror, getting a good look at
them. They stare back seductively.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
We're keeping ourselves occupied.

                       JUSTIN
Sure looks like it.

SIRENS BLARE!

Four Police cars haul ass in the opposite direction.

                       JUSTIN
      (to himself)
Man, I've never seen traffic this
bad.

8.

EXT. DUPLEX - NIGHT

A stylish split house in a sleepy suburban neighborhood. The
Vegas skyline a couple miles away in the background.

The Audi pulls up, the garage door opens. It pulls inside.

INT. JUSTIN'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Stylish blank and white gothic drawings line the walls.
Everything neat and organized.

Justin opens the door in his bath robe, carrying three
glasses of champagne.

                       JUSTIN
I brought us a nightcap.

Hot Blonde and Sexy Brunette lie naked in the bed, ready for
action.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
How sweet.

Justin hands them each a champagne glasses.

                       JUSTIN
Now what to toast to?

                       HOT BLONDE
How about to the wonderful sex we
are about to have?

                       JUSTIN
Sounds good to me.

                       JUSTIN
Sounds good to me.

The three clink their glasses.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
Cheers.

The three down their drinks. Then the two women swarm
Justin.

INT. DUPLEX LIVING ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Red and black furniture decorates the spotless room.

9.

Aubrey sits on the couch, arms crossed, deeply settled in
resting bitch face.

Justin's sexcapades loudly echo down the stairs.

The front door opens. BIANCA, 20's vibrant green eyes,
bright red lipstick, struts in with stylish boots.

ROBERT, 20's, well built, debonair, a wealthy upbringing in
his past, follows, closes the door behind her. He licks his
fangs.

                       ROBERT
Is supper ready -- I'm famished?

Aubrey's eyes motion upstairs, where the sex noises continue
to pour down from.

                       AUBREY
Justin's getting it ready now.

INT. JUSTIN'S BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Hot Blond and Sexy Brunette lie on the bed wearing nothing
but sweat and pure drunk exhaustion on their faces.

                       HOT BLONDE
I'm so woozy.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
I can't feel my body.

Justin enters the bedroom carrying a clear plastic tarp,
lays it on the floor. The two women, lethargic in their
movements, look at him curiously.

                       HOT BLONDE
What are you doing?

                       JUSTIN
I have to apologize ladies, but
I've drugged you with Quaaludes.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
      (confused)
The date rape drug -- but we were
going to have sex with you anyway?

The two women's eyes blink, both barely hang on to
consciousness.

10.

                       JUSTIN
I promise you ladies won't feel
any pain.

Aubrey, Bianca and Robert appear in the doorway.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
I had a four-way once, but I'm not
sure I'm comfortable with this.

                       HOT BLONDE
      (incoherent)
Look at all the pretty horses.

Hot Blonde fades into unconsciousness.

                       SEXY BRUNETTE
What are you going to do to--.

Sexy Brunette joins her friend in the land of dreams.

                       JUSTIN
Everyone ready to eat?

INT. DUPLEX LIVING ROOM - LATER

The four vampires lounge on the couches and love seats, wine
glasses of blood in hand, full and content looks on their
faces.

THE TELEVISION PLAYS THE NEWS

                       REPORTER (V.O.)
Cases of the mysterious pandemic
are now being reported in every
major city...

Images of zombies attacking scared and screaming people.
Chaos in the streets of a big city.

                       ROBERT
This is just like the Bird Flu
everyone was freaking out about.
It'll be over in a week and we'll
be on to the next pandemic.

POLICE SIRENS SCREAM. The four vampires watch as red and
blue lights flash by the window before disappearing out of
sight.

11.

                       REPORTER (V.O.)
One Police Officer I spoke to
described the affects of this
pandemic on people as 'Rabies on
PCP'.

                       BIANCA
Or like how everyone was freaking
out about Ebola.

                       AUBREY
Justin and I saw one of those
people trying to eat a woman's arm
at the Mirage.

Justin nods.

                       JUSTIN
It was some freaky shit.

                       ROBERT
The only freaky shit I heard was
what you did upstairs.

Robert gets up, stretches.

                       ROBERT
Sun's about to pop up.

                       BIANCA
Yeah, we should hit the hay.

Bianca gets up. Her and Robert head to the door.

                       ROBERT
Thanks again for dinner.

                       BIANCA
We got you guys next time.

                       JUSTIN
      (grits teeth)
I'm sure you do.

Aubrey slugs her brother in the shoulder.

                       AUBREY
Have a good morning, guys.

Robert and Bianca exit to their half of the house.

Aubrey turns to the television, which continues to play
horrific images of zombie attacks.

12.

                       AUBREY
That's enough of that.

Aubrey grabs the remote and clicks off the television. She
grabs the wine glasses.

                       AUBREY
We've hosted the last three
feedings, I'm tired of them
mooching.

Aubrey looks at Justin, who is lost in deep thought.

                       AUBREY
What's up your ass?

Justin snaps out of it.

                       JUSTIN
What?

                       AUBREY
What's wrong with you?

                       JUSTIN
Nothing.

                       AUBREY
Just tell me, butt head.

                       JUSTIN
You don't remember anything
special about today?

Aubrey thinks about it for a moment, suddenly gets angry.

                       AUBREY
You know how much I hate when you
do that. That's not our life
anymore and bringing it up only
causes pain.

MULTIPLE GUNSHOTS ECHO FROM OUTSIDE

Justin and Aubrey exchange a curious glance. Aubrey rushes
to the curtains, peeks outside.

Nothing unusual to see.

                       AUBREY
This whole night has just been
weird. I'm going to bed, have a
good night butt head.

13.

Aubrey saunters up the stairs.

                       JUSTIN
Goodnight, sis-turd.

INT. JUSTIN'S BEDROOM - MORNING

The windows blacked out with a black cover. A green night
light shines from the wall next to the bed, illuminating a
sleeping Justin.

He tosses and turns in bed, seemingly unable to get
comfortable.

DREAM SEQUENCE

INT. TEEN AUBREY'S BEDROOM - DAY

BILLY IDOL'S REBEL YELL BLARES

A girlie dresser with a large mirror attached.

TEEN AUBREY, 18, headphones in her ears, connected to a
Walkman. She sports a leather jacket and a bad perm.

She fixes her makeup in front of the mirror. She puts the
finishing touches on her lipstick, smacks her lips.

She puts the lipstick down, searches for something on her
nightstand. She can't find it. A frustrated grunt.

She cuts off the music and marches out of the room.

INT. TEEN JUSTIN'S BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Dirty laundry littered about, bed unmade, a Back to the
Future poster crookedly tacked to the wall.

A mini weight set in the middle of the room, TEEN JUSTIN, in
a wife beater, bandanna around his head, does bench presses.

The bedroom door flies open, Aubrey storms in.

                       AUBREY
Hey, dilweed, stop borrowing my
hairspray without asking!

She marches to his dresser, snatches a bright bottle of
hairspray.

14.

                       JUSTIN
Chill out, I only used a little.

She sniffs the air, waves her hand in front of her face.

                       AUBREY
God, your room stinks.

                       JUSTIN
You can leave any time you know?

                       AUBREY
      (taunting)
You better shower before
Christina's party. You're
girlfriend Mindy is supposed to be
there.

                       JUSTIN
Shut your stupid face.

The door opens, PATRICK COOPER, late 30's, a mature, hard
working guy enters, a look of reserved anger on his face.

MARTHA COOPER, late 30's, a Betty home maker with caring
eyes, stands behind her man.

                       PATRICK
Okay, who did it?

Justin and Aubrey exchange concerned looks.

                       AUBREY
Did what?

Patrick pulls a fresh cigarette butt from his shirt pocket.

                       PATRICK
Well, I'm waiting.

Justin and Aubrey gulp.

                       MARTHA
You know they say those things
cause cancer.

                       JUSTIN
I don't know how that got there.

Patrick turns to Aubrey.

                       AUBREY
Me either.

15.

                       MARTHA
We know it was one of you.

Justin and Aubrey shuffle their feet.

                       PATRICK
Then you both can be grounded for
a week.

Aubrey flails her arms up. Justin looks at his parents in
shock.

                       JUSTIN
What?

                       AUBREY
That's not fair! Mom, you can't
let him do this!

                       MARTHA
One week was my idea.

Aubrey and Justin look down, defeated. Patrick and Martha
exit the room.

                       JUSTIN
You don't even bother hiding your
butts anymore?

                       AUBREY
Jesus, I forgot, I'm sorry.

                       JUSTIN
Well, thanks to you, there's no
party for us tonight.

                       AUBREY
Oh, we're going. We just have to
wait for Mom and Dad to go to
sleep.

                                         END DREAM SEQUENCE

BOOM!

INT. JUSTIN'S BEDROOM - EVENING

The entire room shakes. Justin jolts awake in bed and looks
around.

                       JUSTIN
What the--?

16.

He gets out of bed and rushes to his door.

HALLWAY

Aubrey opens her bedroom simultaneously with Justin. They
exchange a curious look.

                       AUBREY
The fuck was that?

A loud crash from downstairs. Justin and Aubrey hurry down
into the

LIVING ROOM

Bianca drags a severely injured and bloody Robert through
the front door, she slams it behind her.

                       JUSTIN
What the hell's going on?

                       BIANCA
      (incoherent)
Those things...they just attacked
out of nowhere. What the fuck were
they?

Justin and Aubrey rush towards them, help lay Robert on the
couch.

                       AUBREY
What are you talking about, you're
not making any sense?

Bianca kneels next to an unconscious Robert and breaks down
into tears. Justin and Aubrey aren't going to get anything
out of her.

They head to the front door, Bianca raises her hand,
frantic.

                       BIANCA
      (crying)
Don't go out there!

Justin and Aubrey stop at the front door, look confused.

                       AUBREY
The roof.

17.

EXT. DUPLEX ROOF - MOMENTS LATER

Aubrey opens the attic window, leads Justin outside. Shock
quickly plasters itself to their faces.

The Las Vegas strip, in the distance, has turned into a
complete war zone.

CANNON FIRE rumbles the house, illuminates the sky.

                       AUBREY
Oh my God.

                       JUSTIN
We don't have those, remember?

DOWN ON THE STREET

A FRIGHTENED WOMAN runs shrieking down the pavement. A heard
of 5 zombies lumber after her.

She trips over a bicycle, rolls her ankle as she tumbles to
the ground. She grabs her ankle in pain.

The zombies gain ground, gnarl and mash their chompers in a
fevered frenzy.

                       FRIGHTENED WOMAN
Please, don't hurt me!

She desperately crawls away, but it's no use. The zombies
devour her in a mess of blood and gore, till her haunting
scream is but an echo.

                       JUSTIN
I'm dreaming. I must be dreaming.

                       AUBREY
I wish it was.

Aubrey slips on the steep rough, loudly sending shingles
tumbling to the ground.

                       AUBREY
Oh shit.

The noise attracts every zombie in the area. Nearly twenty
grunt and groan as they surround the duplex.

Justin grabs her arm, lifts her back to the roof. More
zombies, attracted by the noise, appear from around their
street corner.

18.

                       JUSTIN
We need to barricade.

INT. DUPLEX LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Bianca, still in tears, caresses a now barely conscious
Robert.

                       BIANCA
You're gonna be alright, Robert. I
promise.

Aubrey and Justin dash down the stairs, in a panic.

                       BIANCA
I told you! It's madness out
there!

                       ROBERT
      (weakly)
What's going on?

                       JUSTIN
They've surrounded the house.

GLASS BREAKS!

They all look over, a vampire has smashed a living room
window.

Aubrey rushes over, claws extend from her finger tips, she
violently slashes the zombie across the face, sending it
flying.

                       AUBREY
Block the doors and windows!

The vampires, sans Robert, scurry moving furniture in front
of the doors and windows.

A CHILD ZOMBIE creeps in through the broken, and not
adequately barricaded window.

She paces towards an unaware Robert, sinks her teeth into
his neck, ripping the jugular out. Robert flails in pain.

                       BIANCA
Robert!

She turns and tosses the child zombie across the room,
crashing it into a lamp.

19.

The three vampires stop, look at the child curiously. Child
Zombie slowly rises to her feet.

                       JUSTIN
What are these things?

Bianca kneels by Robert's side. He's in a great deal of
pain. Blood oozes from him. He goes limp in Bianca's arms.

Child Zombie shakes off the cobwebs, regains her focus back
to the vampires.

Bianca screams, barrels towards Child Zombie, extends her
claws, and with one furious swipe of the claws, beheads her.

                       AUBREY
Looks like that'll stop them.

Zombies pound furiously at the house, trying to get in.

                       JUSTIN
We just need to hold down the fort
here and ride this out.

Aubrey's eyes light up.

                       AUBREY
Oh shit!

The vampires turn. The broken lamp has caught the curtain on
fire. It spreads quickly.

                       AUBREY
Where's the fire extinguisher?

                       JUSTIN
We don't have a fire extinguisher!

Aubrey and Justin grab sofa pillows, try in vein to put the
fire out.

The fire spreads out of control.

                       JUSTIN
We can't stay here.

                       AUBREY
Where we supposed to go?

                       JUSTIN
We'll figure it out as we're
leaving.

20.

Justin rushes to Bianca, grabs her arm.

                       JUSTIN
C'mon, we're getting out of here.

EXT. DUPLEX - MOMENTS LATER

Smoke plumes from the cracked windows. Dozens of zombies
pound at the house.

The Audi crashes through the garage, headlights blaring. It
screams down the suburban street, running over any undead
person in its way.

The car zooms away, leaving the burning house in the rear
view mirror.

INT. AUDI - MOMENTS LATER

Aubrey white knuckles the wheel as she maneuvers the car
through the neighborhood.

Justin rides shotgun, his eyes scanning the scene. Bianca
sits in the back seat, despondent, stone faced.

                       AUBREY
Where do I go?

Aubrey turns the car out of the neighborhood. Her choices
are an isolated road or the highway on-ramp.

                       JUSTIN
Not the highway!

Aubrey swerves the car onto the highway on-ramp. Justin
flails his arms in anger.

                       JUSTIN
What are you doing?

                       AUBREY
You said take the highway!

                       JUSTIN
I said not the highway!

EXT. HIGHWAY - CONTINUOUS

Bumper to bumper with cars, all heading out of the city. The
Audi pulls in line.

21.

HONK!

ANGRY DRIVER pokes his head out of his car window.

                       ANGRY DRIVER
Hurry the fuck up! The fucking
world's ending and we can't break
five miles an hour gettin' outta
here!

DISTANT SCREAMS. HUNGRY GROWLS.

                       ANGRY DRIVER
What the--?

Several people come running from the opposite direction,
some scream, all in a panic.

The group of people run by Angry Driver. He watches them
pass. Then turns back to the road. His jaw drops.

A dozen zombies hurry down the highway towards him.

                       ANGRY DRIVER
Oh shit.

Angry Driver hand rolls his window up as fast as he can. Not
fast enough. A zombie reaches in and grabs Angry Driver,
sinks its teeth into his neck.

Angry Driver screams as blood squirts from his neck.

INT. AUDI - CONTINUOUS

The three vampires watch the scene in horror.

                       AUBREY
Oh my God.

                       JUSTIN
We need to get off the highway.

A cluster of zombies head towards them. Some people stay in
their cars, others get out and run.

Aubrey kicks the car into reverse, slams into the car behind
her.

She guides the car to the bumpy shoulder, back onto the
on-ramp.

22.

She drives the Audi up to the elevated road, stops. The 3
vampires watch the carnage below.

Nearly as many zombies as people. Complete anarchy on the
highway. A group of zombies devour a person.

Aubrey starts driving to the other road. She pulls on it.

                       AUBREY
No where to?

                       JUSTIN
I got an idea.

Justin grabs the wheel and spins it, taking them off the
road and into the desert.

EXT. DESERT - NIGHT

Headlights off. Stealth mode. The car zooms through the bare
desert.

INT. AUDI - CONTINUOUS

Our three vampires are in same positions we last saw them.
Justin turns to Bianca, who is still stoned faced, in the
back seat.

                       JUSTIN
You doing alright, Bianca?

No response. She is in shock.

                       AUBREY
Sun comes up in a couple hours.

                       JUSTIN
I know.

                       AUBREY
Any idea where the nearest Motel
Six is?

Their eyes search the dark desert. Nobody or nothing in
sight.

                       AUBREY
So, any more bright ideas in that
noggin of yours?

23.

                       JUSTIN
You don't have to be a bitch all
the time, you know?

                       AUBREY
Sorry, the apocalypse kinda brings
out the worst in me. Let me
rephrase that in a less bitchy
way. Jun, my wonderful twin
brother, whatever shall we do to
stay out the sun and not turn into
ash?

Justin stares out the window in deep thought. After a few
moments, his eyes light up.

                       JUSTIN
I got an idea.

                       AUBREY
Great, what it?

EXT. DESERT - MORNING

The first rays of sun peek over the horizon.

The Audi sits parked in the middle of the desert. No one
visible inside.

                       AUBREY (O.S.)
This has to be the worst idea
you've ever had.

We pan down, see Aubrey, Justin and Bianca buried up to
their necks underneath the car.

                       JUSTIN
Desperate times my sis. You doing
okay Bianca?

Bianca has no reaction, her blank stare haunting. Justin and
Aubrey exchange a concerned glance.

                       AUBREY
Get some rest Bianca -- we're
going to get through this.

                       JUSTIN
One of us should keep a lookout.

Aubrey looks befuddled as she scans the nothingness of the
desert.

24.

                       AUBREY
For what?

Justin gives her an incredulous look.

                       AUBREY
Okay, fine, we'll split it.

                       JUSTIN
Thanks, sis-turd.

                       AUBREY
You're welcome, butthead.

Justin yawns, blinks his eyes.

                       JUSTIN
All the bodies buried in the Vegas
desert, never thought I'd be one
of them.

                       AUBREY
You better get some sleep, I'm
waking you up in five hours.

Justin closes his eyes, takes a deep sigh.

BLACKNESS.

DREAM SEQUENCE

EXT. NEBRASKA COUNTRY ROAD - NIGHT

A shiny new early 80's wooden colored sedan cruises down the
road.

INT. OLDER SEDAN - NIGHT

Teen Aubrey drives, Teen Justin rides shotgun.

                       AUBREY
Did you have to make all that
noise climbing out the window?

                       JUSTIN
They didn't wake up. Besides, it's
not my fault we had to sneak out
anyway.

Something in the distance catches Aubrey's eye.

25.

                       AUBREY
What's that up there?

Justin follows Aubrey's gaze.

A stopped car in the distance. They get closer to it. They
see it has a flat tire.

                       JUSTIN
That's a shit place to break down.

DEVLIN, black jeans, boots and a leather jacket steps out of
his car, his face slightly hidden in the darkness, steps out
and waves them down.

                       JUSTIN
You're not thinking of picking him
up, are you?

                       AUBREY
He's stuck out in the middle of
nowhere.

                       JUSTIN
He's probably a serial killer.

                       AUBREY
      (smiles)
He's kinda cute.

Aubrey pulls the car next to Delvin. Justin reluctantly
rolls down the window.

                       AUBREY
Car trouble?

                       DELVIN
Yeah, must've hit something and
got a flat. Thought I'd be stuck
here for a while. I'd have been so
screwed if you guys didn't show
up.

                       JUSTIN
You're not from around here.

                       DELVIN
Guilty as charged. I'm passing
through on my way to Denver. I
think I got a little lost trying
to find the highway.

26.

                       JUSTIN
More than a little.

                       AUBREY
Is there somewhere we can take
you?

                       JUSTIN
You're not a serial killer, are
you?

Aubrey punches Justin in the shoulder.

                       AUBREY
Don't mind him, our Mom dropped
him on the head when he was a
baby.

                       DELVIN
Is there a motel near by?

                       AUBREY
The King's castle isn't too far,
hop in.

Delvin smiles and hops in the backseat.

                                         END DREAM

BLACKNESS

HISSING O.S.

Light emerges through the blinks of slowly opening eyes.

EXT. DESERT - EVENING

Under the Audi, Justin blinks his eyes open, sourly looks
around.

Aubrey and Bianca are sound asleep.

HISS

Justin turns. A rattlesnake slithers towards them, ready for
a fight.

                       JUSTIN
      (hushed)
Aubrey!

27.

                       AUBREY
      (sleep talks)
Look at all the pretty colors on
the hot air balloon.

                       JUSTIN
Aubrey!

Aubrey blinks her eyes open.

                       AUBREY
What is it? What's going on?

The snake slithers closer.

                       JUSTIN
You were supposed to stay awake!

                       AUBREY
I did. I was just resting my eyes.

Justin motions to the approaching snake. Aubrey sees it, her
eyes bolt up.

The snake heads straight for a sleeping Bianca.

                       AUBREY
Shit!

The snake slithers, now only a foot away from Bianca. It
rises, HISSES. It lunges at the back of Bianca's head.

Aubrey's hand shoots out from the sand, grabs the snake by
the throat, inches from Bianca's head.

Bianca's eyes open in terror. Aubrey squeezes, killing the
snake, tosses it away.

                       BIANCA
What was that?

                       JUSTIN
Nothing.

                       AUBREY
What was what?

                       BIANCA
I thought I felt something behind
me.

28.

                       JUSTIN
Nope, I didn't see anything, did
you Aubrey?

                       AUBREY
You must've been dreaming.

                       BIANCA
Oh, okay.

                       AUBREY
Sun's starting to set. We should
get moving as soon as it drops.

INT. COOPER KITCHEN - EVENING

A knife slices through a tomato on a cutting board.

A SMALL TELEVISION plays the news.

                       REPORTER (V.O.)
Nearly every major city in the
world has been devastated by this
pandemic. The more concentrated
the population, the worse the
situation is.

Images of zombies attacking fleeing victims flashes across
the screen.

                       REPORTER (V.O.)
So far, according to reports, the
interior of the U.S. has mostly
been spared. But, with containment
efforts failing, that all could
soon change.

Martha, now in her 70's, her hair peppered with gray,
wrinkles settled in her face, a deep pain buried in her
eyes, puts the finishing touches on a BLT sandwich.

She places it on a tray along with a glass of lemonade.

                       REPORTER (V.O.)
Authorities say to arm yourselves
and to fortify your homes. Stay
off the streets if at all
possible.

Martha grabs the remote and clicks off the television. She
grabs the tray and walks through the living room.

29.

She walks past an armoire, which operates as a makeshift
shrine for Justin and Aubrey. Filled with their pictures and
trophies. She glances at it as she walks by, exits through
the back door.

EXT. COOPER HOUSE - EVENING

Patrick, now 70, sporting some salt and pepper hair of his
own, an extra 20 pounds in his gut, hammers in barbed wire
around his fence.

He stops, wipes a puddle of sweat from his brow. Looks
around. He's almost covered the entire property fence in the
sharp metal.

Martha meanders towards him with the tray of food. He spots
her, a smile cracking his face.

                       PATRICK
You're a sight for sore eyes.

                       MARTHA
Are you talking to me or the
sandwich?

Martha sets the tray in front of him. He begins devouring
his food.

                       PATRICK
Thank you, honey.

Martha looks around, admires his work.

                       MARTHA
You got so much done.

                       PATRICK
Preparing for the end of the world
is more work than I thought.

                       MARTHA
We've survived worse.

A moment of solemn silence interrupted by the sounds of an
approaching truck.

Patrick and Martha walk towards the blocked off driveway.

The truck stops. JIM MILLER, 50's, heavyset, a good ole boy
who could tell you everything you'd ever want to know about
corn, gets out.

30.

                       PATRICK
Evening, Jim.

                       AUBREY
Can I get you a coffee or
lemonade?

                       JIM
That's very hospitable of you, but
I don't plan on staying long.

                       PATRICK
What can I do for you, Jim?

                       JIM
Actually it's what I can do for
you.

Patrick and Martha exchange a curious look.

                       JIM
Two miles east of town, off road
forty-two, there's a doomsday
bunker.

                       PATRICK
What are you talking about?

                       JIM
It was built during the cold war,
designed to keep a community alive
for a hundred years, everything
state of the art for its day.

                       MARTHA
How do you know this?

                       JIM
I worked on the construction crew,
mixed cement.

                       PATRICK
What does this have to do with us?

                       JIM
I'm inviting you both to go with
me.

                       PATRICK
What?

31.

                       JIM
Most of the people who owned a
spot are dead. After the col war,
the doomsday bunker business died
down. There are enough spots for
five-hundred people, and only
two-hundred are there now.

Patrick and Martha look at each other, their eyes seem to
have a conversation. They turn back to Jim.

                       PATRICK
Thanks Jim, but we're staying
here.

                       JIM
Those things are in Lincoln, Bill
Reeves saw them. It's everything
the news says. They're only a
couple hours away. They'll kill
you if you stay.

                       PATRICK
Well we are. This is our home.

                       JIM
      (somber)
You know they're not coming back,
don't you? It's been thirty years.

Patrick and Martha grimace at the hurtful comment about
their children.

                       PATRICK
Thanks for looking out for us, but
we're just fine. You take care,
Jim.

                       JIM
You too Patrick, Martha. The
offer's still good if you change
your mind.

Jim gets back in his truck and drives off. Patrick and
Martha stand there in silent contemplation.

INT. AUDI - NIGHT

Justin drives. Aubrey rides shotgun. Bianca in the back.
Snow capped mountains in the background.

32.

They speed through an isolated, empty road. A sign reads,
"Welcome to Utah".

                       AUBREY
Maybe the Mormons will scare these
off.

Justin cracks a smile. Aubrey flips through the radio
stations, finally landing on one.

                       ANNOUNCER (V.O.)
Like many of us feared, the
pandemic is sweeping the nation.
Governor Hillman has issued a
State of Emergency as Salt Lake
City resembles something out of a
war zone.

                       BIANCA
There's no where to go.

                       ANNOUNCER (V.O.)
Governor Hillman issued a
statement ordering citizens to
remain armed and indoors.
(pause)
My God, folks, this is the end.
The dead are inheriting the Earth.
Pray folks. Pray to Jesus for
forgiveness. Pray to Jesus for
salvation.

LOUD BANGS over the radio.

                       ANNOUNCER (V.O.)
Hey, you can't be in here!

GURGLED GROWLS

                       ANNOUNCER (V.O.)
Oh God, please no!

A VIOLENT SCREAM. TEETH CHEW AWAY AT FLESH. The screams
stop. All we hear is meat being devoured.

Our three vampires listen in stunned silence. Justin quickly
turns the radio off.

                       JUSTIN
That's enough of the radio.

LATER

33.

Justin maneuvers through a curvy mountain road. Aubrey and
Bianca both sleep.

BEEP!

The noise jolts Aubrey and Bianca awake.

                       JUSTIN
It's just the gas light.

                       AUBREY
'Just the gas light'? The gas
light is kinda a big deal.

                       BIANCA
      (scared)
What are we going to do?

An Exit sign reads "Grand Junction, Gas in 15 Miles"

                       AUBREY
Take it.

                       JUSTIN
That's the city, who knows how bad
it is!

                       AUBREY
It's either that or we find a nice
cave to sleep in, no car, who
knows when our next meal will
come.

Justin takes the exit ramp.

EXT. GAS STATION - NIGHT

The Audi, lights off cruises to eyeshot of the gas station.
All the lights are on, but it's empty. Quiet. Too quiet.

                       AUBREY
What do you think?

                       JUSTIN
Something's off. I don't like it.

                       AUBREY
Let's just go, in and out, anyone
gets in our way and we smash them.

Justin zooms the car over to a pump, turns it off.

34.

                       JUSTIN
I'll turn on the pump inside.

                       AUBREY
I'll come with you.

                       BIANCA
You're not leaving me by myself!

                       JUSTIN
Fine, Bianca, you come with me.
Help me find some gas cans. Aubrey
can stay out here.

                       AUBREY
Alright.

EXT. GAS STATION - CONTINUOUS

The three vampires exit the car. Justin and Bianca head into
the station. Aubrey stands guard by the car.

INT. GAS STATION MART - MOMENTS LATER

Justin opens the door, enters, followed by Bianca.
Everything looks normal, sans any people.

                       JUSTIN
Stay close.

Justin and Bianca creep towards the cash register.

A SHOTGUN COCKS

                       MALE ATTENDANT (O.S.)
Leave, now. There's nothing here
for you.

Justin and Aubrey turn. MALE ATTENDANT stands several feet
away, a shotgun aimed at their heads.

                       JUSTIN
Listen, we just need to fill up
our tank and we'll be on our way.

                       MALE ATTENDANT
That's my gas and you're not
taking a drop of it.

                       BIANCA
We have money!

35.

Male Attendant cackles.

                       MALE ATTENDANT
I'm giving you three seconds to be
out that door and on your way.

Justin turns to Bianca.

                       JUSTIN
I think we just found a snack for
the road.

                       AUBREY (O.S.)
Guys, you need to hurry up!

They all look outside. 100 zombies march from the road
towards the gas station.

                       MALE ATTENDANT
Shit.

Justin fiddles with the register. Male Attendant fires a
shot, hitting Bianca. She drops to the ground.

Justin leaps at Male Attendant, who fires and misses. Justin
leaps on top of him, quickly rips into Male Attendant's
jugular with his fangs.

Aubrey rushes in. Looks around in shock.

                       AUBREY
What the hell?

Bianca moans in pain struggles to get up.

                       BIANCA
It hurts.

                       AUBREY
We don't have much time.

Aubrey and Justin lift her up.

                       AUBREY
I'll get her to the car. You get
the gas running.

Aubrey labors to carry Bianca, who moans, out side. They
exit the store.

Justin fiddles at the register. His eyes light up.

36.

                       JUSTIN
Yes!

EXT. GAS STATION - CONTINUOUS

100 zombies all make their way straight for them, likes
moths to a light.

Aubrey struggles to get the injured Bianca to the car. The
zombies are only forty or so feet away.

Aubrey reaches the car, opens the back door and lays Bianca
in the back seat of the car, goes to close the door.

                       BIANCA
Don't leave me!

                       AUBREY
I'll be right outside. We're going
to get gas and outta here, okay?

                       BIANCA
Okay.

Aubrey shuts the car door.

Justin comes out of the store, running towards them.

                       JUSTIN
Pump should be on.

Aubrey grabs the pump handle and jams it in the tank. Gas
clangs in the empty tank.

The horde continues toward them, only twenty feet or so
away.

                       JUSTIN
I'll slow them down.

                       AUBREY
Wait!

Justin turns.

                       AUBREY
I got an idea.

Aubrey pulls the gas pump out, sprays a huge puddle from
side to side. She takes out a match, flicks it, tosses it on
the gas.

37.

A wall of fire emerges. Flames roar.

                       AUBREY
That'll slow them down.

Aubrey puts the pump back in the car, lets the gas keep
rolling.

The zombies walk through the flames, catching on fire,
continue towards them without missing a beat.

                       JUSTIN
Well, that didn't work.

                       AUBREY
Tanks only half full.

                       JUSTIN
I got this.

Justin grabs a piece of metal rebar, attacks the waves of
flaming zombies coming at them.

Justin crushes one zombie after another in the head. But
there are too many. They approach Aubrey.

Aubrey puts the gas pump down, extends her claws and goes on
the offensive.

Justin and Aubrey fight valiantly, but are soon surrounded
by the flaming undead.

                       JUSTIN
There's too many of them!

                       AUBREY
We can do this!

They continue to fight, taking out one zombie after another.
A group surrounds Justin, takes him to the ground.

                       JUSTIN
Aubrey!

Aubrey turns, a group of zombies separates her from her
brother.

                       AUBREY
Hold on!

Aubrey fights her way to Justin, who fends off the snapping
zombies.

38.

Teeth get closer and closer to gnashing Justin.

A claw swoops in, lopping the head off the closest zombie.
Justin is able to push his way up.

Bianca stands there, smiling at Justin.

                       BIANCA
Got'em.

The three vampires continue fighting the hoard.

A flaming zombie sneaks up behind Bianca, bites a huge chunk
out of the back of her neck.

Bianca SCREAMS!

She turns, the zombie takes her to the ground, catching her
on fire.

Justin and Aubrey turn from their fighting, horrified. They
fight through zombies to get to Bianca.

A group of zombie converge on Bianca, taking several bites
out of her.

Justin and Aubrey reach her, destroy the zombies devouring
her. Justin takes off her shirt, eliminating the fire. He
leans down, cradles her in his arms.

                       JUSTIN
Bianca, I--.

Bianca coughs up blood. The situation is dire. Aubrey stands
guard, takes out a couple of the last zombies.

                       BIANCA
Please, stop the pain.

Justin and Aubrey examine her wounds, exchange a dire look.
They go back, kill the last couple of zombies.

They rush back to Bianca. Both cradle her.

                       BIANCA
It's bad, isn't it?

They stare at a mangled and bloody Bianca. Justin nods.
Aubrey turns away, tries to hold back tears.

                       BIANCA
I love you guys. I'm ready to go
to the light.

39.

Aubrey holds her hand. Justin kisses her on the cheek.

                       AUBREY
We love you, Bianca.

                       JUSTIN
Thank you, Bianca.

Aubrey extends her claws, slices Bianca's head clean off.

INT. AUDI - NIGHT

Aubrey drives, Justin rides shotgun. They sit in stunned
silenced.

They zoom down a dirt road, kicking up dirt.

Aubrey regards the Audi clock, "4:45".

                       AUBREY
What are we gonna do?

Justin sighs, contemplates.

EXT. REST STOP - NIGHT

A steep hill.

Dark. Crickets chirp. No one in sights. The Audi pulls up.
Justin and Aubrey get out, scout the area.

                       JUSTIN
This place is as safe as any.

                       AUBREY
For now.

They meander to the trunk, Justin pops it open. They look in
at it sourly.

                       JUSTIN
I think we can fit.

                       AUBREY
Remember when we were buying a car
and I wanted the Escalade, and you
convinced me to get the Audi?

                       JUSTIN
I wasn't taking trunk space into
account.

40.

                       AUBREY
This makes a coffin look like a
king sized bed.

                       JUSTIN
You got a better idea?

Aubrey crosses her arms, pouts.

                       AUBREY
No.

Justin motions to the trunk.

                       JUSTIN
Ladies first.

Aubrey grunts and climbs in. Justin follows, closing the
trunk behind him.

INT. AUDI TRUNK - CONTINUOUS

Complete blackness. Aubrey and Justin toss and turn in a
futile attempt to get comfortable.

                       AUBREY
Hey, watch your elbow!

                       JUSTIN
It'd be easier to if you're knee
wasn't in my back.

                       AUBREY
There's no where else for my knee
to be!

They sit in silence for a few moments.

                       AUBREY
Justin?

                       JUSTIN
Yeah.

                       AUBREY
I just want you to know, whatever
happens, I really love you.

                       JUSTIN
I love you too.

41.

                       AUBREY
Good night butthead.

                       JUSTIN
Goodnight sis-turd.

Their breathing becomes sleepy and heavy.

DREAM SEQUENCE

Light emerges through the blinks of slowly opening eyes.

INT. DINGY MOTEL - DAY

A dusty, cheap motel. Teen Justin groggily sits up on the
bed, sourly looks at his surroundings.

Teen Aubrey lies on the bed asleep next to him. They both
are in the same clothes they were picking up the hitchhiker.

A slier of light shines through the edges of the closed
curtains. It hurts Justin's sensitive eyes. He rushes over
to close them all them way.

Justin coughs, grabs his neck in pain. He shuffles to the
mirror, looks to see two red puncture holes over his neck.
Fear strikes his face.

He rushes to the bed, shakes Aubrey awake.

                       AUBREY
What are you doing?

Aubrey sits up, looks around in confusion.

                       AUBREY
Where the fuck are we?

Aubrey recoils, grabs her neck in pain.

                       JUSTIN
I have them too.

                       AUBREY
What you talking about?

Justin grabs Aubrey's arm, walks her towards the mirror. He
removes Aubrey's hand from her neck, revealing identical
puncture marks.

42.

                       AUBREY
      (freaked out)
What happened to us?

Aubrey approaches the mirror, looks over the marks in
horror.

                       AUBREY
What did that fucker do to us?

Something catches Justin's eye. A note left on the
nightstand. Justin grabs it and flips it open.

                       JUSTIN
Dear Aubrey and Justin, you both
must be very confused and scared.
Let me first start by apologizing,
I commandeered your car...

                       AUBREY
No fucking way!

Aubrey rushes to the window, opens the curtains, is hurt by
the sun. She reels back.

                       JUSTIN
You okay?

                       AUBREY
Car's not out there. Mom and Dad
are gonna flip shit!

                       JUSTIN
      (continues to read)
I was also starving and needed to
feed. That's where you two come
in.

Aubrey grabs note from Justin, her eyes wide.

                       AUBREY
      (reads)
I am a vampire and now you two are
as well. The hunger for human
blood will slowly start to set in.

Aubrey and Justin exchange a shocked look. They know it's
true.

                       AUBREY
      (reads)
The fangs should be starting to
come in by now.

43.

Justin opens his mouth, runs a finger along his teeth. Fangs
have formed.

                       AUBREY
      (reads)
Whatever you do, stay out of the
sun. Despite the legends, you are
not immortal, but you age at a
tenth the speed of humans. A
decade is but a year to you now.

                       JUSTIN
      (mumbles)
I can't believe this.

                       AUBREY
My only advice is to leave and
start all over. Your friends and
family will never understand. They
will kill you once they realize
what you are. Your new life begins
today. Best wishes, Devlin.

Aubrey lowers the note in shocks, lets it drop to the floor.

                       AUBREY
What do we do?

Justin plops to the bed in despair, runs his fingers through
his hair.

                                         END DREAM SEQUENCE

BLACKNESS

SNORING

GRUNTS AND GROANS. HANDS POUNDS AGAINST METAL.

INT. AUDI TRUNK - EVENING

Bodies shift inside the pitch black trunk.

                       JUSTIN
Aubrey!

Aubrey snorts.

                       AUBREY
Huh?

44.

                       JUSTIN
You're snoring!

The hands keep grinding away at the outside of the trunk.

                       AUBREY
Was not!

                       JUSTIN
Then why are there a bunch of
those things pounding on our car?

Aubrey doesn't have answer.

                       AUBREY
Is it night yet?

                       JUSTIN
How the hell am I supposed to
know?

                       AUBREY
I thought you knew everything?

A frustrated pause.

                       JUSTIN
We need to kill these things
before they attract more of them.

                       AUBREY
Let's crack the trunk open to see
if the sun's out.

                       JUSTIN
Okay, just a tiny bit open, so we
can close it right away if we need
to.

                       AUBREY
I think I found the lever..

The trunk door flies open. The sun is down. 8 zombies
converge on them.

Justin kicks them away furiously. Aubrey grabs the handle
and slams the trunk shut.

                       JUSTIN
What happened to crack it just a
little?

45.

                       AUBREY
It was an accident! What are we
gonna do?

                       JUSTIN
Let's climb through the trunk and
into the cab. We can start the car
and drive away.

                       AUBREY
You can be pretty smart sometimes,
you know that?

                       JUSTIN
I try.

INT. AUDI - MOMENTS LATER

Thirty or so zombies stand outside, pounding on the car.
More approach from the distance.

Justin awkwardly pushes his way through the backseat from
the trunk, followed by Aubrey.

Justin hops in the driver's seat, Aubrey to the passenger
seat.

                       JUSTIN
It's all smooth sailing now. Where
are the keys?

                       AUBREY
I don't know -- I thought you had
them?

                       JUSTIN
I asked you to grab them from
the...

Justin looks. The keys are still in the ignition. He turns
it. The car is dead.

                       AUBREY
Shit!

Justin pounds his fist on the steering wheel.

                       JUSTIN
      (angry)
How could you forget the key in
the ignition?

46.

                       AUBREY
I didn't mean to!

The zombies pound on the car even more furiously. The
passenger side window cracks.

                       AUBREY
What are we going to do?

                       JUSTIN
I don't know.

Aubrey breaks down into tears.

                       AUBREY
I doomed us! How could I be so
stupid?

Aubrey slams both her fists down, one of them disengages the
emergency break.

The car begins to roll backwards down the steep hill.

                       JUSTIN
Oh my God, what did you do?

Aubrey goes to pull the emergency break up. Justin stops
her, smiles.

                       JUSTIN
You're a genius Aubrey.

Aubrey returns his smile.

EXT. ROAD - CONTINUOUS

The Audi builds momentum as it rolls backwards down the
incline, crushing zombies that get in the way.

The car gets clear of the zombies, who now chase after it.

INT. AUDI - CONTINUOUS

Aubrey and Justin watch the zombies go further and further
in the distance. They begin to celebrate.

                       AUBREY
We did it!

                       JUSTIN
You did it, Aubrey.

47.

They high five, celebrating their new lease on life. Justin
turns around, the look on his face turns sour.

The Audi heads straight for a cluster of large trees.

                       JUSTIN
Oh shit!

Justin makes a desperate attempt to turn the car, but it's
too late.

The car violently SLAMS into a tree.

BLACKNESS

Zombies GROWL and GNARL O.S. in the distance.

Light emerges through the blinks of slowly opening eyes.

INT. AUDI - CONTINUOUS

Justin slowly comes to, looks over at Aubrey who is still
out.

Justin looks out of the mangled car. The horde of zombies is
nearly 100 strong. The closest ones are only 20 feet away,
lumbering straight for them.

Justin furiously shakes his sister.

                       JUSTIN
Aubrey, wake up -- we gotta get
out of here!

No response, Aubrey's out cold. Justin tries to open his
door, but it's jammed.

                       JUSTIN
Fuck!

Justin looks around, trying to figure out what to do. He
looks to the cracked windshield.

He drives his boot into the windshield. Once. Twice. Three
times. It pops out.

Justin climbs through to the hood. He reaches in and drags
Aubrey out.

                       JUSTIN
I got you, sis.

48.

The horde of zombies converge on them.

Justin places Aubrey on the roof of the car. He lunges into
the horde like a bowling ball, knocking 10 of them down.

Justin hops to his feet, claws out. He slices through two
zombies.

                       JUSTIN
Come on!

Justin picks up a thick tree branch, swings it wildly,
taking out another couple of zombies.

Waves and waves of zombies keep coming. Justin keeps
swinging, but there are too many of them.

A SCRAGGLY OLD ZOMBIE emerges from the woods. It heads
straight for Justin's back.

Scraggly Old Zombie reaches out, jaw open, inches from
tearing a hold in Justin's neck.

Claws swoop in, decapitating the zombie. Justin turns to see
his savior, Aubrey.

                       AUBREY
Let's get out of here.

                       JUSTIN
Thanks, sis.

Justin and Aubrey turn, run away from the horde.

EXT. WOODS - NIGHT

dead leaves crunch under walking feet.

Justin, arms crossed, his mind a million miles away, and
Aubrey make their way through the tree-line.

                       AUBREY
What's on your mind?

                       JUSTIN
I want to go home.

                       AUBREY
Are you crazy -- Vegas is a war
zone?

49.

                       JUSTIN
No, that's not what I mean. I want
to go HOME.

The comment finally sinks in on Aubrey. She snorts.

                       AUBREY
You're joking, right?

                       JUSTIN
Do we have somewhere better to be?

                       AUBREY
So you just think we can stroll
back home and Mom and Dad will
greet us with open arms. 'Hey
guys, I know we've been gone like
two and a half decades, but
noticed it was the end of the
world, so we thought we'd come by
and say hello'.

                       JUSTIN
I'm going, with or without you.

                       AUBREY
Oh, what a great plan. How do you
even know they are alive?

Justin pauses, not wanting to give the answer.

                       AUBREY
      (angry)
How do you know?

                       JUSTIN
I'd call once a year on Mom's
birthday. I'd never say a word.
I'd hear her voice and hang up.

Aubrey sits on a tree stump, fights back anger and tears.

                       AUBREY
Her birthday was just a couple
days ago. That's why you were
acting so weird.

                       JUSTIN
I heard Dad in the background.

50.

                       AUBREY
How the fuck could you! We
promised we would never try to
contact them!

                       JUSTIN
It's one thing to let them live
their lives out naturally. But the
thought of those things eating Mom
and Dad alive....How could we live
with ourselves?

Aubrey thinks it over. She nods.

                       AUBREY
Then I guess we're going home.

INT. COOPER PARENT'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Patrick tosses and turns in bed. He swings his arm over to
Martha's side. It's empty.

Patrick jolts awake. He looks around the dark, empty room in
fear.

He takes a lighter, sparks it and lights a candle.

                       PATRICK
Martha?

No answer. Patrick slides out of bed with the candle, grabs
the axe by his nightstand. He shuffles to the bedroom door.

HALLWAY

Patrick exits the bedroom. He slowly steps towards the
stairs.

LIGHT FEMALE SOBS ECHO UP

                       PATRICK
Martha?

No answer. Patrick shuffles down the stairs.

LIVING ROOM

Patrick enters. Is immediately disarmed. He puts down the
axe.

Martha sits on the couch, a photo album in her lap. She
looks up at Patrick, quickly wipes the tears away.

51.

                       PATRICK
I woke up and you weren't there. I
just wanted to make sure you where
okay.

                       MARTHA
      (reassuring)
I'm fine.

                       PATRICK
Are you having the dreams again?

Martha nods.

                       PATRICK
I wish you'd wake me up so you're
not suffering through it alone.

                       MARTHA
It's just what Jim said today when
he stopped by. I always thought
we'd see our babies again one day,
even after all these years.

                       PATRICK
      (pleading her not
       to go on)
Martha.

                       MARTHA
Now, with all this craziness
happening....I'm losing hope,
Patrick. I know you lost it a long
time ago, but I always thought
we'd see them again one day.

                       PATRICK
Please, don't do this to yourself.

A LOUD BANG outside the house startles them.

                       MARTHA
What was that?

Patrick rushes to the window, pulls back the curtains.

Several zombies are trapped in the barbed wire. Three
zombies have broken through the fence and barbed wire,
stagger through the yard.

                       PATRICK
Grab the shotgun and lock the
doors.

52.

Martha stands.

                       MARTHA
I'm helping you.

                       PATRICK
No! Stay in the house, I'm taking
care of this.

Patrick grabs the axe, marches to the door and exits the
house, the door doesn't latch all the way.

Martha hurries

UPSTAIRS

She grabs the shotgun from the bedroom doorway. Loads two
shells.

She heads back downstairs to the

LIVING ROOM

The front door creaks closed, as if someone just opened it.
But no one is there.

                       MARTHA
Patrick?

No answer. Martha readies the shotgun. She creeps through
the dark, candle lit room.

                       MARTHA
      (scared)
Patrick?

Five feet behind her, the silhouette of a large male zombie.
His dead, hungry eyes stare right at her.

EXT. COOPER FRONT YARD - CONTINUOUS

Patrick swings his axe, lops the head clean off a Zombie,
spattering himself with blood.

A Second Zombie comes at Patrick, who turns and slices the
axe through its head.

Several Zombies now surround the perimeter. Many are stuck
on the barbed wire.

                       PATRICK
Awe hell.

53.

Patrick wipes the blood from his face.

Martha SCREAMS from inside the house.

Patrick turns, horrified.

A SHOTGUN BLAST!

Patrick runs faster than you'd imagine a 70 year old could.
He trips over a rock, staggers to get back up.

                       PATRICK
Martha!

Patrick reaches the front door and enters the house.

INT. COOPER LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Patrick rushes in, looks around horrified.

                       PATRICK
Where are you?

WEAK MOANS from the Kitchen. He rushes towards the noise.

Martha lies on the ground, blood gushing from her neck. A
pool of crimson underneath her. The shotgun rests next to
her hand.

A zombie, its head blown off, lies a couple feet away.

Patrick hurries to Martha's side. He cradles her head, puts
pressure on the wound.

                       PATRICK
No...no...no...!

Patrick takes his white shirt off, coves the wound, quickly
turning the shirt into a bad Jackson Pollack painting.

                       MARTHA
We had a great life together
Patrick and I'm so happy I got to
spend it with you.

                       PATRICK
I'm going to you through this.

Martha smiles, looks right into Patrick's eyes.

                       MARTHA
No you're not.

54.

Patrick does everything he can to hold back the tears.

                       PATRICK
I...I can't go on without you.

                       MARTHA
You have to. You have to be here
when Aubrey and Justin come home.

                       PATRICK
      (reluctant)
Martha, I...

                       MARTHA
Promise me!

                       PATRICK
I promise you.

Martha's breathing becomes heavy. Blood gurgles out of her
mouth. Patrick elevates her so that the blood can drain.

                       PATRICK
Please don't leave me.

Martha's breathing becomes very rapid, then all of a sudden
stops.

Patrick gentle lays Martha's lifeless body down. He brushes
her eyes shut and puts his shirt over her face.

Patrick turns his back to her, cradles his legs, rocking
back and forth, and completely breaks down into
uncontrollable sobbing.

We stay on Patrick for several moments as the grief gushes
from him.

Martha sits up, the blood soaked shirt slide away from her
face, revealing dead, carnivorous eyes. They focus squarely
on Patrick.

She rises to her feet, growls. Patrick turns, horrified at
the site.

Zombie Martha lunges at him. Patrick is able to toss her
away, crashing her into the dinner table.

                       PATRICK
      (pleads)
Martha...no, please.

55.

Zombie Martha, unphased, rises to her feet. Her teeth gnash,
read bite.

Patrick backs away. Zombie Martha reaches for him. Patrick
crashes through a glass coffee table. Zombie Martha careens
after Patrick, lands on top of him.

Patrick uses all strength to hold back as she is only inches
from biting him.

                       PATRICK
Don't do this Martha!

Their eyes connect. Patrick realizes their is nothing of his
wife left.

Zombie Martha's jaw gets closer and closer to chomping him.
His eyes search for a way out.

The axe rests only a couple of feet away. He extends one arm
out while holding Zombie Martha at bay with the other.

His finger tips squeeze around the neck of the axe. He
brings it in till he has a grip.

                       PATRICK
I love you, Martha.

With all his strength, he slams the axe blade into Zombie
Martha's skull, dropping her. She is lifeless once again.

Patrick lies there for a moment, wincing in pain. He lifts
himself up, picks a piece of glass out of his arm.

He tries to lift his left shoulder, but can't. A broken
collar bone.

He shuffles to Martha and removes the ax blade from her
head.

EXT. WOODS - NIGHT

Aubrey and Justin continue their trek. In the distance, a
rusty old abandoned trailer. Aubrey points to it.

                       AUBREY
That's the best I think we're
going to find.

56.

INT. ABANDONED TRAILER - MORNING

Cramped and dirty. No one has set foot in this thing in
years.

Justin and Aubrey curl up on the tiny bed. They close their
eyes.

EXT. COOPER BACKYARD - MORNING

A foot slams into a shovel head, digs into the dry, rocky
dirt.

The shovel lifts a painfully small pile of dirt, tosses it
aside.

The foot drives the shovel back into the ground, tosses more
dirt aside. A half dug grave.

We pan up over a dirty pair of slacks, a sweat stained
collared shirt, Patrick's bruised and tired face.

He puts the shovel down, winces at his left shoulder, which
is saddled in a self made sling.

Patrick wipes his brow, which is dripping sweat. He turns to
the now repaired fence.

A dozen zombies are caught in the barbed wire. Patrick
focuses on the one closest to him, its hand reaches out in a
futile attempt to reach Patrick.

The anger in Patrick's eyes grows. He marches a few feet
away, grabs his ax.

Patrick storms towards the zombie, swings the ax fiercely
with one arm, decapitating it.

In a rage, Patrick continues to march around the yard,
lopping zombie heads off left and right.

Patrick drops to his knees, takes heavy breaths, trying to
calm the rage.

EXT. COOPER YARD - DAY

Patrick scoops from a big mound of dirt with his shovel. He
tosses it over a grave.

He weakly scoops more dirt, tosses it on the grave. He looks
absolutely spent.

57.

INT. PATRICK AND MARTHA'S BATHROOM - EVENING

Patrick, with lit candle in hand, shuffles in. He disrobes
from his pajamas.

He sits in the bathtub. He reaches in bucket of water, takes
the sponge out and begins cleaning himself.

INT. PATRICK AND MARTHA'S BEDROOM - EVENING

Patrick meanders in, candle in hand. He lays down in bed,
but instead of the middle, he stays on his side, blows the
candle out.

EXT. COUNTRY ROAD - NIGHT

Justin and Aubrey walk along the shoulder of the road. They
pass a sign that reads, "Welcome to Longmont, Colorado".

                       PATRICK
It's not far now.

                       JUSTIN
We need a car.

                       AUBREY
I really wish one of us had
learned how to jump start one.

Headlights approach Justin and Aubrey look in excitement. T
watch as the car approaches.

                       JUSTIN
Play it cool, Aubrey.

The car approaches. Justin and Aubrey wave it down. The car
pulls over. The two vampires rush to the driver's side door.

The driver's window rolls down, the barrel of a shotgun
sticks out. Aubrey and Justin freeze.

JILLIAN, 30, a striking brunette with a deathly glare, holds
the gun, finger firmly pressed to the trigger.

                       JILLIAN
Either of you bit?

Just and Aubrey shake their heads 'no'.

58.

                       JILLIAN
Are you murderers, rapist, or
robbers?

                       AUBREY
      (smiles)
I get a little rapey sometimes,
but no to the rest of them.

                       JUSTIN
No, we are just trying to find our
way home.

Jillian eyes them suspiciously, trying to get a read on
them.

                       JILLIAN
Where you headed?

                       JUSTIN
Burlington, Nebraska. You going
that way?

                       JILLIAN
I don't know where I'm going.
Nebraska sounds as good as any. I
could use the company -- safety in
numbers, ya know? If you want a
lift, that is.

                       AUBREY
Sounds great.

Justin and Aubrey hop in the car. It drives off.

INT. JILLIAN'S CAR - NIGHT

Jillian zooms the car down the country road. Aubrey, in the
passenger seat, fiddles with the radio, scans through
stations. Nothing. Justin looks out the window in the back
seat.

                       JILLIAN
Hasn't been anything on there for
hours.

Aubrey stops trying.

                       JILLIAN
So what's in Nebraska?

Justin and Aubrey exchange a look.

59.

                       JUSTIN
Our parents.

                       JILLIAN
Oh. Have you talked to them since
this thing started?

                       AUBREY
No.

                       JUSTIN
You have anyone?

Jillian quivers, bites her lip. The two vampires notice.

                       JILLIAN
Not anymore.

                       JUSTIN
I'm sorry.

                       JILLIAN
My husband and daughter. Denver
turned into a war zone overnight.
We tried to get out of the city.
(beat)
I'm the only one who made it.

Justin and Aubrey exchange a communicative look.

                       AUBREY
When's the last time you ate?

                       JILLIAN
I don't even remember.

Aubrey points to a dark farmhouse on the horizon.

                       AUBREY
Wanna check there, see if we can
get a bite to eat?

Jillian contemplates, gives a nod.

EXT. FARMHOUSE - MOMENTS LATER

No lights, no cars in the driveway, no signs of life.

Jillian's car pulls up to the front of the house, kills the
lights.

60.

Jillian, carrying her shotgun, Aubrey and Justin exit the
car. They scan the area.

The three march to the front porch. Aubrey peeks in the
window, shakes her head.

                       AUBREY
Doesn't look like anyone's here.

Jillian pounds on the door.

                       JILLIAN
      (yells)
Is anyone home?
(beat)
We're not infected and we're not
here to cause trouble, we're just
searching for food and supplies.

No response. Justin turns the door knob, the door swings
open.

INT. FARMHOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Jillian kicks a flashlight on, providing the only light in
the house.

They slowly creep in.

                       JUSTIN
We're sorry we have to do this.

                       JILLIAN
What are you talking about?

Justin and Aubrey rush Jillian, she fires a shotgun blast
that misses. The two vampires tackle Jillian to the ground.

LATER

A lone candle illuminates Jillian, who is unconscious and
tied to a chair.

Her eyes blink open, she struggles against her bindings. Her
eyes search the dark room.

                       JILLIAN
      (screams)
Why did you do this to me!

                       AUBREY (O.S.)
Because we have to.

61.

Justin and Aubrey emerge from the shadows. Jillian squirms
in a futile attempt to free herself.

                       JILLIAN
I should have never picked you up,
fucking worst mistake of my
life--!

                       AUBREY
Quiet.

Jillian stops, listens.

                       JUSTIN
We're going to give you a choice
that we never had.

                       JILLIAN
And what's that?

                       AUBREY
Do you want to die or do you want
to become one of us?

Jillian looks both horrified and confused by the question.

                       JILLIAN
What do you mean?

INT. JILLIAN'S CAR - NIGHT

Justin drivers, Aubrey rides shotgun. She looks at her
brother.

                       AUBREY
You have a little...on your cheek
there.

Justin wipes blood off his cheek, licks it away.

The car drives away, leaving the farmhouse in the
background.

INT. COOPER LIVING ROOM - MORNING

Patrick, arm still slinged, crawls on the floor a bucket of
water next to him and a sponge in hand.

He scrubs away at the massive blood stains on the wood
floor.

62.

Patrick takes the sponge and rings and out red into the
bucket. He goes back to vigorously scrubbing.

EXT. COOPER BACKYARD - EVENING

A couple dozens zombies now surround the perimeter, most
caught in the barbed wire. They growl hungrily.

Patrick mixes cement in a wheelbarrow. He takes his finger,
writes letters in the wet cement.

The letters read, "In Loving Memory..."

LATER

Patrick, in a suit and tie, stands by Martha's grave, his
home made tombstone adorning it.

He holds a Bible in his hand, silently reads from it. He
closes the Bible and stares solemnly at the grave.

INT. JILLIAN'S CAR - NIGHT

Aubrey drives, Justin sits shotgun. They cruise down a dirt
road.

                       JUSTIN
We've got to be close to the
border.

The road ends at a riverbed.

                       AUBREY
Shit! It's gonna be at least
twenty minutes of backtracking!

                       JUSTIN
We have to decide, backtrack and
hit the highway, where who knows
how bad it is, or ditch the car
and swim across.

Justin and Aubrey quietly think for a moment.

                       JUSTIN
It's almost dawn, we can sleep on
it and figure it out tomorrow.
Maybe we can even make it to the
house.

Aubrey offers him a flat smile.

63.

                       AUBREY
Great, another night with you in
the trunk.

                       JUSTIN
Could be worse. We still have a
bit till sunrise, so we don't have
to go right away.

They both sit on the hood of the car. Aubrey picks at some
tall grass, in deep thought.

                       JUSTIN
What's wrong?

                       AUBREY
I was just thinking...What if we
get there and...and it's too late.
What if they are already gone.

                       JUSTIN
Those things are attracted to
light, all the big cities are
getting flooded. They are probably
safe and sound.

                       AUBREY
Yeah, I hope you're right.

INT. PATRICK AND MARTHA'S BEDROOM - MORNING

Patrick, asleep in bed, rolls his arm over to the other
side. No one there.

Patrick instantly wakes up, looks solemnly at the empty side
of the bed.

Patrick rolls out of bed, walks to the door and exits the
bedroom.

HALLWAY

Patrick labors down the stairs and into the

KITCHEN

Patrick looks through the bare pantry. A single can of
beets. His stomach grumbles.

He grabs the can, leaving nothing left. He pops the top open
and digs out of it with a spoon.

64.

INT. COOPER LIVING ROOM - EVENING

Patrick plops down on the couch, a bottle of whiskey in
hand. The shotgun rests beside him.

He chugs from the whiskey, sets it down. He looks over at
the gun, grabs it, looking it over.

EXT. DIRT ROAD - NIGHT

The car sits on the side of the road by the lakebed. The
trunk pops open, Aubrey and Justin hop out.

INT. CAR - NIGHT

Aubrey drives, Justin rides shotgun. They turn onto an
access road.

                       AUBREY
You sure about this?

                       JUSTIN
Not really.

The highway is a tangled mess of broken down cars, some on
fire. Hundreds of zombies meander the six lane highway.

Aubrey pulls the car to a stop.

                       AUBREY
We can't do this -- it's worse
than we thought.

Justin examines the situation. He notices a grass patch
running parallel with the highway with few cars on it.

Justin directs Aubrey's eyes to the grassy patch.

                       JUSTIN
The grass, we can make it there.
Just hit the gas and don't stop.

Aubrey takes a couple of deep breaths, focuses. Her hands
grip the wheel tight.

                       AUBREY
Here goes nothing.

Aubrey floors the gas, turns onto the highway. The zombies
all turn to the approaching car.

65.

The car swerves through the wreckage, demolishing any zombie
that gets in its way.

Aubrey swerves the car onto the grassy patch. The car bumps
along violently. This is definitely not an off-road vehicle.

The car plods over a zombie every ten feet or so, its
performance starts to drag.

                       JUSTIN
The car can't take much more of
this!

                       AUBREY
What do you want me to do?

                       JUSTIN
Maybe not run over so many of
them!

The grass is coming to an end, a cement barrier is all that
is left.

                       AUBREY
Shit!

Aubrey slams on the brakes, but it does little to help. They
brace themselves.

The car violently crashes into the barricade. Justin and
Aubrey fly through the windshield.

EXT. HIGHWAY - CONTINUOUS

Justin and Aubrey launch from the car, tumble to the hard
concrete, finally coming to a stop.

The two vampires moan and groan, have extreme road rash. The
struggle to their feet.

Zombies converge on them from every direction. The closest
ones only fifteen away.

Aubrey stumbles to her feet first, helps Justin to his. They
are both in pretty bad shape.

A zombie approaches them grabs Justin. Aubrey extends her
claws, slices its head off.

                       AUBREY
We've got to get out of here.

66.

The horde gets closer and closer, now dangerously close.

They look around. Off the highway is a cornfield. Justin
points to it.

                       JUSTIN
Through there!

Aubrey and Justin limp in the direction of the cornfield,
the horde of zombies follow.

Justin slices through a zombie that gets in their way. They
are so hurt, they can't move much faster than the zombies.

They reach the edge of the corn field, holding each other
up, run through the stalks.

The zombies march through the corn, coming after them.

EXT. CORN FIELD - CONTINUOUS

The field extends for as far as the eye can see.

Justin and Aubrey barrel through the field as fast as their
injured bodies will allow.

Aubrey twists, grabs her ankle in pain. Justin helps her to
her feet.

                       JUSTIN
You okay?

                       AUBREY
It's hurt pretty bad.

Justin, holding Aubrey, helps her as much as he can.

                       JUSTIN
We need to do something.

                       AUBREY
What?

The growls get closer. Out to the right light reflects.
Justin sees it.

                       JUSTIN
The riverbed!

Aubrey turns to the light.

67.

                       JUSTIN
We can out swim them.

The two vampires make a sharp right turn, head for the
river.

They reach the water, zombies on their heels. The two
vampires dive into the water.

The zombies break through the edge of the cornfield, plod
into the neck deep river after them.

Justin and Aubrey swim, start putting distance between them
and the zombies.

EXT. RIVERBANK - NIGHT

Aubrey and Justin reach the river edge safely. They both lay
on the shore, breathing heavy, exhausted.

                       JUSTIN
I've never been this exhausted in
my life.

Aubrey drags herself to the sitting position.

                       AUBREY
We need to get there before
sunrise, I can't handle another
night of this.

They both stagger to their feet. They are running on fumes.
They stumble into the woods.

INT. COOPER LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Patrick sits on the couch, the bottle of whiskey near empty.
He chugs the last bit of it, places the bottle down.

He wipes his mouth, blinks his bloodshot eyes. He looks
around aimlessly, in deep thought.

                       PATRICK
This is it.

He drunkenly staggers to his feet, shuffles to the armoire,
filled with pictures of Justin and Aubrey. Now a picture of
Martha is next to them.

He stands there staring at it.

68.

                       PATRICK
I'll be there soon.

He walks past it to the kitchen counter. He grabs a pen and
notebook.

He stumbles back to the couch, plops down on it. He puts the
notebook on his lap, has the pen at the ready. He
contemplates for several moments.

Pen meets paper. He scribbles a long note, emotion pours
from his face.

He finishes his note, sets the pen and pad on the couch next
to him.

Patrick reaches down and picks up the shotgun. He pops it
open, makes sure it's loaded.

He closes it and cocks it. He stares long and hard at it,
slowly raises the barrel to his mouth.

Patrick's body tenses, his eyes close. His hand shakes as
the barrel gets closer to his mouth.

He sticks it in his mouth, now his entire body trembles.

Suddenly drops the gun from his mouth, turns to the side of
the couch, vomits violently.

He takes breaths, slowly composing himself. Punches himself
in the head twice.

                       PATRICK
Don't you be a coward. Don't you
be a fucking coward.

He wipes the tears from his eyes, psyches himself up. He
grabs the gun and jabs it in his mouth.

His trembling hand presses down on the trigger. He closes
his eyes.

He slows his breathing. His hand stops shaking. In intense
moment. This is the end. He's really going to do it.

KNOCK AT THE FRONT DOOR

Patrick pulls the gun out of his mouth, his eyes open wide.
Was it a hallucination.

ANOTHER KNOCK

69.

                       PATRICK
      (scared)
Who's there?

ANOTHER SERIES OF KNOCKS

Patrick stands, ambles towards the front door.

                       JUSTIN (O.S.)
Mom, Dad? It's me, Justin --
Aubrey's here too. Are you both
alright in there?

Patrick's jaw drops, he loses his balance, nearly falling
over, catching himself on the wall. He trembles, completely
terrified.

                       PATRICK
      (mumbles)
This can't be happening, Martha
said it would.

                       AUBREY (O.S.)
Maybe they left, went to somewhere
safer.

                       JUSTIN (O.S.)
You know Mom and Dad would never
leave this place.

Patrick creeps towards the door.

MORE LOUD KNOCKS

                       JUSTIN (O.S.)
Are you guys there?

Patrick walks to the door, stands in front of it, scared to
turn the knob.

                       AUBREY (O.S.)
Maybe they're gone?

                       JUSTIN (O.S.)
Do you want to go in?

Patrick grabs the knob, flings the door open.

A stunned Aubrey and Justin stand on the other side of the
door.

There is several seconds of silence as the three stare at
one another in awe.

70.

Aubrey breaks into tears, moves to Patrick, wraps her arms
around him.

                       AUBREY
I missed you so much, Daddy.

Patrick breaks Aubrey's grip, gently pushes her, then backs
away.

Justin and Aubrey approach the door, but do not enter.

                       PATRICK
      (scared)
What are you?

                       AUBREY
We're your children.

Patrick continues to back away.

                       PATRICK
You haven't aged. It's been thirty
years and you haven't aged.

                       JUSTIN
We can explain that.

Patrick stumbles and falls down. Aubrey and Justin enter,
reach for Patrick, who stands, pushes them away.

                       PATRICK
This is some kind of trick.

                       AUBREY
      (hurt)
It's not, Dad! We're your
children!

                       PATRICK
Stay away from me!

Patrick turns and runs away.

                       JUSTIN
He's heading to the back!

EXT. COOPER BACKYARD - MOMENTS LATER

Patrick bolts out the back door, drunkenly hurries towards
the fence.

71.

Aubrey and Justin round the corner of the house in hot
pursuit, fifteen or so feet behind.

                       AUBREY
Please, Dad, we're not going to
hurt you!

                       JUSTIN
It's not safe for you out there!

Patrick drops to his stomach, crawls under the fence and
barbed wire.

Something catches Justin's eye, makes him stop in his
tracks.

Patrick makes it under the fence. He stands and takes one
last glance back, before hurrying into the woods behind the
house.

Aubrey reaches the fence, turns back frustrated to her
brother.

                       AUBREY
What are you doing? We're going to
lose him!

Justin doesn't answer. he stands there stone faced. Aubrey
rushes back to him.

Sadness strikes her face. They stare at their mother's
grave.

                       JUSTIN
She's gone. We were too late.

Aubrey puts her hand on Justin's grieving shoulder.

                       AUBREY
There will be time to mourn Mom,
but right now Dad's scared and out
there with those things and we
need to get him.

Justin wipes his eyes, turns to Aubrey.

                       JUSTIN
Then let's go get him.

72.

EXT. WOODS - MOMENTS LATER

Patrick, frightened and exhausted, rushes through the brush.
He stumbles over a fallen tree trunk. He labors to get up.

                       AUBREY (O.S.)
Dad, please come out and just let
us explain!

                       JUSTIN (O.S.)
You'll die out here! We're not
here to hurt you!

Patrick crouches behind a tree, holds his breath.

Justin and Aubrey pass by, only a few feet away.

                       JUSTIN
Which way do you think he went?

Aubrey sniffs the air.

                       AUBREY
He's not far.

Patrick quivers at the comment. Aubrey and Justin run along
the path in search of him.

Patrick remains still, exhales deeply when the two of them
are out of sight.

He gets up, peeks from behind the tree. He runs in the
opposite direction his kids went.

LATER

Patrick continues his trek. He stops, breathing heavy,
covered in sweat. His hands touches his knee. Pure
exhaustion.

A BRANCH SNAPS!

Patrick pops up, looks around nervously. What was that?

A deer shuffles into view from behind some brush. Patrick's
eyes meet the deer's. He offers it a smile.

The deer's head pops it, alarmed. It bolts away. Patrick
looks at it curiously.

GROWLS!

Patrick turns.

73.

A zombie, right behind Patrick, lunges at him, sinks its
teeth into his shoulder.

Patrick SCREAMS!

He tries to fight the zombie off, but is too weak. It takes
him to the ground.

An object swoops in and takes the zombie out. It's Aubrey.
She decapitates the zombie with her claws.

                       AUBREY
      (yells)
Over here!

Aubrey rushes to Patrick, cradles his head. He looks at her
with sad eyes.

                       AUBREY
No, Dad! I didn't mean for this to
happen.

He coughs, his eyes flutter, barely hanging on to
consciousness.

                       PATRICK
      (smiles)
Aubrey.

                       AUBREY
We're going to take care of you.

Justin rushes over, looks horrified at the sight.

                       JUSTIN
No...no...no...

Patrick slips into unconsciousness.

                       AUBREY
What do we do?

                       JUSTIN
We have to get into the house.

Aubrey lifts her father. Justin and Aubrey hurry back
through the woods.

INT. COOPER LIVING ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Justin opens the door, holds it for Aubrey, carrying
Patrick, to rush in.

74.

She lays a bloody and unconscious Patrick on the couch.
Aubrey and Justin look over him.

                       JUSTIN
Put pressure on the wound, he's
bleeding out.

Aubrey squeezes her hand over Patrick's shoulder, which
continues to pump blood.

                       AUBREY
He's dying! What do we do?

Justin paces back and forth, thinking.

Aubrey places her hand on his forehead, turns to Justin
concerned.

                       AUBREY
His fever is really bad. It wont
make it long before he turns.

Justin's eyes light up. He walks over to them. Aubrey
caresses Patrick's cheek.

                       JUSTIN
I have an idea.

                       AUBREY
What?

Justin leans down to his father, sinks his teeth into
Patrick's neck.

Aubrey looks on in horror.

                       AUBREY
What the hell are you doing?!

Justin releases Patrick, wipes the blood from his lips.

                       JUSTIN
Turning him is his only hope.

                       AUBREY
Fuck this is bad.

Aubrey buries her face in her palms.

                       AUBREY
We should have never come here.
This was a huge mistake.

75.

                       JUSTIN
I'm going to get a towel to help
stop the bleeding. We need to take
him down to the basement -- it's
cool and dark down there.

Justin stands and meanders away. Aubrey looks sadly at her
father.

                       JUSTIN
All we can do now is pray.

INT. COOPER BASEMENT - MOMENTS LATER

Justin carries his unconscious father down the stairs.
Aubrey follows with towels and disinfectant in her hand.

They reach the bottom of the stairs. Justin lays Patrick on
the couch. He looks towards the window wells.

                       JUSTIN
We need to get everything black
out.

INT. COOPER BASEMENT - DAY

The room is dark, window wells covered. A handful of candles
provide the only light.

Patrick lies on the couch, covered in sweat, his breathing
shallow. A viral war raging inside him.

Justin and Aubrey sleep on a love seat a few feet away. The
exhaustion on their faces apparent.

THUMP!...THUMP!...

Aubrey and Justin are startled awake. Their eyes search for
the noise.

                       JUSTIN
What the hell was that?

Aubrey shrugs her shoulders.

THUMP!...

Aubrey and Justin get up, concerned.

                       JUSTIN
Shit.

76.

                       AUBREY
You think those things broke the
barrier?

Justin nods.

                       AUBREY
It's the middle of the day!

                       JUSTIN
We can't leave the fence open till
night, have them get in the house.
We have to do something.

                       AUBREY
It's too dangerous.

                       JUSTIN
We don't have a choice.

Aubrey sighs.

                       AUBREY
What's your plan?

LATER

Aubrey and Justin are covered from head to toe in thick
clothes. They even sport sunglasses.

                       JUSTIN
We wont have much time.

                       AUBREY
Sounds good to me.

Aubrey and Justin hurry up the stairs and open the basement
door.

LIVING ROOM

Sunlight shines through all the windows. Aubrey and Justin
enter, head towards a window over looking the yard.

30 or so zombies meander through the yard. Some circle the
house.

Aubrey points to a hole in the fence where the zombies
trickle through.

                       AUBREY
There!

77.

                       JUSTIN
We need to get it patched up.

                       AUBREY
Dad probably has tools and wood in
the garage.

                       JUSTIN
You ready?

Aubrey nods.

EXT. COOPER YARD - MOMENTS LATER

The front door swings open. Justin and Aubrey exit, closing
it tightly behind them.

Justin holds an axe, Aubrey a chainsaw.

All the zombies turn their attention to the two vampires.

                       JUSTIN
Come and get it, mush brains.

Aubrey kicks the loud chainsaw on. The two vampires rush
straight into the thick of it.

Justin and Aubrey plow through the zombies one by one. Heads
fall, blood splatters.

A zombie sneaks behind Aubrey. She hears it at the last
second and turns. It swipes her sunglasses off as it reaches
for her.

She drops the chainsaw, falls to the ground, covering her
eyes.

                       AUBREY
      (screams)
Justin!

Justin turns from his battle several feet away to see
Aubrey's plight. He rushes towards her, lopping a zombie's
head off that was in his way.

Three zombies converge on Aubrey, she furiously kicks them
away.

A zombie steps on her glasses, crushing them. Another falls
on top of her.

78.

She desperately holds it back with one hand as she covers
her eyes with another.

Justin swoops in, loops the head off the zombie on top of
her. He fights off the other two.

                       JUSTIN
You okay?

                       AUBREY
I can't see! My eyes hurt so bad.

                       JUSTIN
Stay right where you are, there's
only a few more left.

Justin slices the heads off of the remaining few zombies,
one after the other.

                       JUSTIN
They're gone.

Justin helps Aubrey, who's still covering her face, to her
feet, walks with her back inside

LATER

The sun setting in the background.

Aubrey, with a new pair of sunglasses, and Justin, both
still fully dressed, put the finishing touches on fixing the
fence.

A handful of new zombies have made their way to the outside
perimeter.

Aubrey hammers the final nail in the wood. They both look
around. Not only at the new zombies, but all the dead ones
in the yard.

                       AUBREY
We can't stay here.

                       JUSTIN
I know.

Justin and Aubrey walk back towards the house.

79.

INT. COOPER HALLWAY - NIGHT

Aubrey stands next to her old bedroom door, looks inside.
Everything is how she left it. except everything is old,
faded.

Justin walks up the stairs, approaches her.

                       AUBREY
Dad still doing okay?

                       JUSTIN
For now. Long term, I don't know
one way or the other.

Justin stares into his room, in the same condition he left
it.

                       JUSTIN
How about you?

                       AUBREY
Just wondering what our lives
would have been like if I never
picked up that vampire on the side
of the road.

                       JUSTIN
You couldn't have known. You were
just trying to do something nice.

                       AUBREY
Yeah.

                       JUSTIN
You know I don't blame you for any
of this right.

She turns to Justin and offers him a flat smile.

                       AUBREY
I know.

                       JUSTIN
You still blame yourself, don't
you?

                       AUBREY
I just wonder where we'd be
sometimes. We'd be almost fifty.
You'd probably be divorced three
times, with a beer belly.

80.

                       JUSTIN
Gee, thanks.

                       AUBREY
I'd have a wonderful husband, and
like, five kids. We'd be stopping
here all the time to visit our old
parents.

                       JUSTIN
The world would've still ended,
you know?

                       AUBREY
Yeah, but Mom and dad would both
be alive if we were here for them.

                       JUSTIN
Maybe you're right.

INT. COOPER BASEMENT NIGHT - NIGHT

Patrick lies unconscious on the couch, his skin pale,
breathing deep, his expression peaceful.

Aubrey wipes a warm washcloth over her father's head. Justin
stands behind her, his arms crossed.

                       JUSTIN
If he was going to turn he
should've by now.

                       AUBREY
Maybe he has too much crap going
through his system.

                       JUSTIN
And maybe it didn't work.

Justin turns his back and walks to the stairs. Aubrey
follows him. Both turn their backs to Patrick.

                       JUSTIN
We couldn't save them.

                       AUBREY
At least we tried.

Aubrey reaches in her pocket, pulls out a note, hands it to
Justin.

81.

                       JUSTIN
What's this?

                       AUBREY
Read it.

Justin unfolds the note. His eyes go wide.

                       JUSTIN
A suicide note?

                       AUBREY
If we had come any later, he'd
probably have been dead.

Behind them, Patrick quietly sits up on the couch and looks
around.

                       JUSTIN
      (continues reading)
Mom turned and he had to kill her.

                       AUBREY
I can't even imagine.

Patrick rises to his feet, walks towards his children. they
don't hear him coming.

Is he a zombie about to attack?

                       PATRICK
      (deep voice)
What did you do to me?

Justin and Aubrey jump, turned startled. They nervously look
over their Dad.

INT. COOPER KITCHEN - NIGHT

Patrick sits at the kitchen table, Justin across from him.
Aubrey stands by the fridge, arms crossed.

                       JUSTIN
That's why we never came back. We
didn't think you'd understand.

Patrick's voice and body movements are weak and labored.

                       PATRICK
You should have come back -- we
would have loved you both no
matter what.

82.

                       AUBREY
You sure seemed happy to see us
earlier.

                       PATRICK
I didn't really believe it was
you.

Patrick moans.

                       JUSTIN
You okay?

                       PATRICK
I'm so hungry.

Justin and Aubrey exchange a concerned look.

                       AUBREY
He should have fed by now.

                       PATRICK
You should have let me died.

                       JUSTIN
Dad...

                       PATRICK
I'm not 'feeding' on people. That
makes me no better than those
monsters that took your mother.

                       AUBREY
You don't get it, Dad.

Patrick looks at his daughter, confused.

                       AUBREY
One of those things bit you too,
and yet here you are, not one of
them.

                       PATRICK
What are you saying?

                       JUSTIN
      (realizing)
We're the cure.

A LOUD BANG!

Justin and Aubrey look out through the window. Over 100
zombies push against the barbed wire fence.

83.

                       AUBREY
We can't stay here any longer.

Justin and Aubrey turn back to Patrick, who is now passed
out unconscious in his seat.

                       JUSTIN
We need to leave now, get him fed.

EXT. COOPER FRONT YARD - NIGHT

The zombies crash against the fence and barbed wire, the
fence close to giving way.

The garage door opens. An old Chevy, headlights on, drives
out, and towards the blocked driveway.

INT. CHEVY - CONTINUOUS

Aubrey drives, Justin rides shotgun. Patrick lies
unconscious in the back seat.

Aubrey guns the gas, heads on a crash course for the fence.
Aubrey and Justin brace themselves.

EXT. COOPER YARD - CONTINUOUS

The truck swerves around a couple zombies that have broken
through the fence.

The truck crashes through the fence, runs over several
zombies in the process.

The zombies all turn, chase after the truck.

The Chevy loses control momentarily, before Aubrey
straightens it out, cruises down the dirt road.

The zombies chasing after the truck are left in its dust.

INT. CHEVY - LATER

The three vampires are where we left them.

                       AUBREY
Where am I going?

                       JUSTIN
I don't know.

84.

                       AUBREY
Think, Justin -- you're supposed
to be the smart one.

                       JUSTIN
We need somewhere with protection
from the sun, fresh blood, and
protection from those things.

Aubrey and Justin sit in silence for several moments,
contemplating.

                       PATRICK (O.S.)
      (weakly)
I know of a place.

Justin and Aubrey turn, surprised, to Patrick in the
backseat, his eyes barely open.

                       AUBREY
Where?

                       PATRICK
Two miles east of town, off road
forty-two. You remember these
roads?

                       AUBREY
Yeah, I think so.

                       JUSTIN
What's there?

                       PATRICK
A chance. You'll have to hurry if
you want to make it before
sunrise.

EXT. NEBRASKA WOODS - NIGHT

The slightest sliver of sunlight peeks over the horizon.

The old Chevy, Aubrey still behind the wheel, barrels off
road, through the uneven terrain.

INT. CHEVY - CONTINUOUS

Justin looks with trepidation at the faint light coming from
the horizon.

85.

                       JUSTIN
We don't have long -- is it much
further, Dad?

Justin turns to the backseat. Patrick has returned to his
state of unconsciousness.

Justin shakes him, still no response.

                       JUSTIN
He's not going to make it much
longer. He's starving to death.

                       AUBREY
What if there's no doomsday
bunker? What if it's all just a
pipe dream?

                       JUSTIN
Then we'll figure something out.

MACHINE GUN FIRE!

Aubrey brings the truck to a stop. Their eyes search for the
source of the gun fire.

Two Jeeps approach them from the distance, machine gun
turrets with GUNNERS.

                       JUSTIN
These guys mean business. Be
ready, things could get messy.

One of the GUNNERS plows through a staggering, stranded
zombie with machine gun fire.

The Jeeps reach them, strategically surround the Chevy,
blocking it in.

Three ARMED MEN with machine guns exit each Jeep, guns
drawn.

A LEADER approaches the truck, his gun held down.

                       LEADER
Step out of the truck.

Aubrey looks to Justin, who nods for her to follow along.
They both exit the truck.

86.

EXT. NEBRASKA WOODS - CONTINUOUS

Aubrey and Justin approach the men, hands raised.

                       LEADER
That's far enough.

Justin and Aubrey stop.

                       LEADER
What are your intentions here?

                       JUSTIN
Shelter. We heard about a bunker,
wanted to see if we could get in.

Leader spits, looks them up and down.

                       LEADER
Strip down to your underwear, both
of you.

                       AUBREY
      (angered)
What? I'm not doing that!

                       LEADER
As cute as you are, that's not why
I'm asking. You want in, we want
to see you haven't been bit.

Justin and Aubrey grimace, start to remove their clothes,
down to their underwear.

The men look them over, no bite marks.

                       LEADER
Put your close back on.

Justin and Aubrey get dressed.

                       AUBREY
So, are we in?

                       LEADER
Follow us.

The Armed Men hop back in the Jeep. Justin and Aubrey hop
back in the Chevy. The two Jeeps drive off. The truck
follows.

87.

INT. CHEVY - CONTINUOUS

Aubrey drives, turns to Justin in the passenger's seat.

                       AUBREY
What're we gonna do about Dad?
They'll never let him in with his
bite! Hell, they wont let us in
knowing we didn't tell them about
Dad!

                       JUSTIN
One way or another we're getting
in and so is Dad.

EXT. DOOMSDAY COMPLEX - MOMENTS LATER

The sun creeps further up the horizon, still the darkness
rules.

The vehicles approach a sprawling cement compound.
Surrounded by a giant wall and topped with a barbed wire
fence.

Only one level of the story is above ground, the rest is
below.

A heavy steel gate opens electronically. The cars pull in,
the gate closes.

INT. CHEVY - CONTINUOUS

Aubrey and Justin survey the scene. Patrick breaths heavy in
the back seat.

                       AUBREY
You got a plan?

                       JUSTIN
Maybe we can reason with them. If
they knew we could save them...

                       AUBREY
The sun will be up in minutes, we
don't have that kind of time.

                       JUSTIN
Then I guess I don't.

                       AUBREY
Well, I have one.

88.

Justin gives her a quizzical look.

                       AUBREY
Do whatever it takes to get us and
Dad in there in the next ten
minutes before the sun turns us to
ash.

                       JUSTIN
This is going to be messy, isn't
it?

Aubrey nods.

The six Armed Men step out of the Jeeps, motion for Justin
and Aubrey to exit their truck.

EXT. DOOMSDAY COMPLEX - CONTINUOUS

Justin and Aubrey exit the truck. Leader approaches them.

                       LEADER
Conditions of entry are you
surrender all personal objects
including your vehicle and any
weapons, which will not be allowed
for you to have in the facility.

Two of the Armed Men approach the truck. Justin and Aubrey
watch them nervously.

                       LEADER
Is that understood?

The Armed Men open the truck, see Patrick. They freak out,
raise their guns.

                       ARMED MAN #1
We got a live one in here, really
bad shape. Looks like he's bit!

All the men raise their weapons at Justin and Aubrey.

                       LEADER
      (angered)
I want answers, and I want them
now!

                       JUSTIN
There's no way we can talk about
this inside, is there?

89.

Armed Man #1 reaches inside the truck, to check on Patrick.
Aubrey turns to him.

                       AUBREY
If you touch him, it'll be the
last thing you do.

Armed Man #1 scoffs, grabs Patrick to drag him out of the
truck.

Aubrey bolts at Armed Man #1 with near supernatural speed,
tackles him to the ground, bites right into his jugular.

GUNFIRE ERUPTS!

Aubrey looks up, blood dripping down her chin, fangs on full
display. A fearsome image.

Aubrey grabs Patrick, drags him to the body. She pressing
Patrick's mouth to the bloody neck wound. He weakly sucks in
the nourishment.

                       AUBREY
Feed, Dad. I have to go get
Justin.

Patrick's eyes crack open, slowly regaining consciousness.

Justin lunges at two of the Armed Men, tackles them. Their
gun fire misses him. Justin slices their necks with his
claws.

Two more of the Armed Men square up, fire at Justin, who
ducks behind one of the Jeeps as gun fire rips into it.

Justin grabs one of the dead men's guns, pops up from behind
the Jeep, plowing down the two men with bullets.

GUNFIRE rips into Justin! Ten bullets to the stomach and
chest. He flies back in a bloody heap, dropping to the
ground unconscious.

                       AUBREY
Justin!

Leader stands with his smoking gun, turns to Aubrey.

Aubrey rushes to Justin's side, cradles him. She looks to
the sky, the edge of the sun visible over the horizon.
Time's almost up.

Leader struts towards him with his smoking gun, a curious
smirk on his face.

90.

                       LEADER
I heard legends about your kind,
never knew if I believed them, but
here you are.

Aubrey turns to him, gives him an angry glare.

Ten feet away from her, he raises his gun. Aubrey groans,
her skin begins to burn.

                       LEADER
Never thought I'd meet one, let
alone kill it. Yet here we are.

Aubrey gets up, charges him. He fires, but she is took
quick, dodging his bullets.

With all her ferocity, Aubrey lunges at him, as bullets whiz
by, she decapitates him.

Aubrey drops to the ground in agony, cries. Smoke rises from
her skin.

She crawl to Justin, who is still unconscious, his skin
smoking too. She pats his face.

                       AUBREY
Justin, wake up! I don't know what
to do!

No response from Justin. Aubrey staggers to her feet,
approaches the complex entrance door.

It's an electronic key code to get in. Aubrey pounds on it
in a rage.

Aubrey's skin starts to burn, she desperately looks around.
Her eyes land on the armored Jeep.

Aubrey hurries to Justin, lifts him, carries him inside the
backseat of the Jeep. She buckles him in.

                       PATRICK (O.S.)
      (weakly)
Aubrey...

Aubrey turns, sees Patrick stumbling towards her, his skin
smoking too.

She rushes to him, helps him into the passenger's side of
the Jeep.

91.

                       AUBREY
Buckle up, Dad.

Patrick buckles himself in. Aubrey starts the Jeep. She
turns the car so it's facing the entrance door.

Aubrey guns the Jeep, it blazes straight for the door.

CRASH!

Smoke and dust render the scene blinding.

INT. DOOMSDAY COMPLEX - CONTINUOUS

The mangled mess of the Jeep lies partially buried under
broken slaps of concrete. Fluid leaks from underneath.

They are inside, out of the reach of the sunlight.

COUGHING

Aubrey forces her way out of the jammed door and onto the
floor. She is bloody and beat up.

She fights her way up, lifts a semi-conscious Patrick out of
the wreckage, props him against the wall.

                       AUBREY
You okay?

                       PATRICK
Justin...What about Justin?

Aubrey turns back, climbs in the Jeep. A few seconds later
she reemerges, carrying Justin out.

Aubrey props Justin next to Patrick. Justin blinks his eyes
open, wines in pain.

                       AUBREY
      (to Justin)
We made it inside!

                       JUSTIN
You're my hero.

The three vampires look around, gage their surroundings.

The room is just a giant concrete hallway. A giant elevator
with pull up doors at the end of it.

92.

Aubrey helps Patrick and Justin stagger to the elevator. She
pulls up the door. They enter and she pulls the door down.

INT. BUNKER ELEVATOR - CONTINUOUS

Aubrey pushes the down button on the elevator. The three
bloody and exhausted vampires plop down on the floor,
resting their heads on each other's shoulders. They are
completely spent.

                       AUBREY
It's all over.

                       JUSTIN
No, it's only just begun.

The elevator DINGS the door opens.

The unground complex is massive, with electricity lighting
it. Two dozen well nourished, showered and shaved people
turn to the elevator.

Everyone flocks to the elevator in curiosity. A WOMAN
approaches.

                       WOMAN
You're safe now.

Aubrey and Justin turn to one another, exchange a victorious
smile.

FADE OUT.
