INT. SCENE 1 - DAY |

KELLY (news reporter)
This BCK2 News. I'm on site in a
local neighborhood where, on April
3, 2019, a 21 year old
Asian-American female UC Irvine
college student was found dead in
her bathroom. They have
identified the victim as Katrina
Arano. Police have investigated
and concluded that it was suicide:
a bottle of pills and a suicide
note was found by her dead body.
The family has requested to keep
the rest of the information
private |

BRITTANIE
(distraught)
What? No no no this can't be
happening. no. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
BRITTANIE
(confused)
I still don't get it. Why would
Katrina commit suicide? I know
her, she's not the type of person
who would do that to herself. She
wouldn't end her life if she was
struggling. She would try to find
ways to solve it. This doesn't
make sense at all. |

|
| |
|
EXT. DEAL WITH THE DEVIL - LATER |
|
|
| |
BRITTANIE
There's no way that Katrina would
throw away her life like that. I
have to know the reason for her
death. I don't think it's suicide
there has to be another reason. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

| |
DEVIL
I'm you. A part of you that knows
that Katrina did not commit
suicide. |
|
|
|
| |
BRITTANIE
I need to go back to that day. I
need to know what happened. |
|
|
|
| |
DEVIL
What if I told you there was a way
I could make that happen? But...
you have to be careful with your
actions |
|
|
|

BRITTANIE
What do you mean? |
|
|
|

(hears alarm and
wakes up)
April 2nd? It's April 2nd today? I
thought it was the 5th... |

DEVIL
(narration)
She did not move slowly over the
past, it was all there in one
flash, all of the years, a
picture, a feeling and a despair,
all stopped the way a fast camera
stops the world. |

DAY IS SHOWN AGAIN |

BRITTANIE
(alarm sounds and
she wakes up)
Wait? It's April 2nd again? Why
does this day keep repeating? What
happened on April 2nd? |

KELLY (flashback)
(newscaster on the
screen)
On April 3rd 2019, A 21 year old
Asian American... |

| |
BRITTANIE
Wait... Katrina died on APril
3rd... That means she's still
alive! |
|

SHOWS KATRINA TYPING
SOMETHING ON
COMPUTER |

|
|
| |
KATRINA
I got it? i got it.
(Katrina gets a
call)
Hello? |
|
|
|

BRITTANIE
(on other end of
the phone)
Katrina? |
|
|
|
| |
KATRINA
Yeah? Wait, I just discovered
something can you come over so I
can tell you? |
|
|
|
| |
BRITTANIE
Ok I'll come after school. Bye |
|
|
|
| |
BRITTANIE ARRIVES AT
KATRINA'S HOUSE |

|
|
| |
BRITTANIE
(entering house)
Why don't you lock the door?
Someone's gonna break in one day. |
|
|
|

KATRINA
(brushing it off)
um i don't know |
|
|
|
| |
BRITTANIE
What did you want to show me? |
|
|
|
| |
KATRINA
So I've been trying to hack into
the government database... and I
finally did it. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
KATRINA
(urgently)
So I've discovered that they've
been engineering diseases in order
to control the human population. |
|
|
|
| |
BRITTANIE
Wait? What are you talking about? |
|
|
|
| |
KATRINA
We should reveal this to the
public. We're being deceived by
the government. Do you know how
many lives we can save by doing
this? I don't know how it will be
in the years to come. There are
monstrous changes taking place in
the world, forces shaping a future
whose face we do not know. |
|
|
|
| |
BRITTANIE
This is risky. What of something
happens? Katrina you're talking
about infiltrating the government
here, an act of treason. I don't
know if I want to be part of this. |
|
|
|
| |
KATRINA
People have a choice... and it's a
choice that makes them who they
are. Just think about it. |
|
|
|
| |
BRITTANIE
(leaving)
I don't know... I'll have to think
about it.I have to go. |
|
|
|

| |
BRITTANIE GETTING
INTO BED |
|
|
|
| |
BRITTANIE
Now I know. There's no way Katrina
would commit suicide, especially
after she worked on this project
for months. |
|
|
|
| |

DEVIL
(narration)
Time interval is a strange and
contradictory matter in the mind.
It would be reasonable to suppose
that a routine time or an
eventless time would seem
interminable. It should be so, but
it is not. It is the dull
eventless times that have no
duration whatever. A time splashed
with interest, wounded with
tragedy, crevassed with joy -
that's the time that seems long in
the memory. And this is right when
you think about it. Eventlessness
has no posts to drape duration on.
From nothing to nothing is no time
at all. |

BRITTANIE RUNS TO
KATRINA'S HOUSE AND
SEE'S SUSPICIOUS
FIGURE LEAVING THE
HOUSE |

KELLY
(on phone)
Yeah I'm working. (laughs). Yeah
you'd think that government
officials would get cooler
nicknames but yeah that hacker
girl is dead. Report it and we're
all good thanks.
(runs away from
(MORE)

(enters Katrina's
house, finding
her dead body)
Katrina? It's too late...
(back to the
investigation
board) |

BRITTANIE BEGINS TO
CONNECT THE DOTS
WHILE FLASHBACKS

KATRINA'S DEATH
SCENE. SHE TRACKS
DOWN KELLY AND
FOLLOWS HER THEN
KILLS HER IN A
PARKING GARAGE. |

DEVIL
(narration)
We are capable of many things in
all directions, of great virtues
and great sins. Was it good or
was it evil? Have [she] done
well—or ill? (pause) There is one
story in the world, and only one.
. . . Humans are caught—in their
lives, in their thoughts, in their
hungers and ambitions, in their
avarice and cruelty, and in their
kindness and generosity too—in a
net of good and evil. Even a
simple man has complexities which
are dark and twisted |
